31. IMPORTANCE OF THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
Certification Program Overview
32. WHY CERTIFICATION PROGRAM IS A KEY COMPONENT OF NFC FORUM?
● Confirms that certified devices are compliant with NFC Forum Technical Specifications
● Contributes to a consistent behavior across the NFC Forum eco-system
and sets the foundation for interoperability
● Offers value for NFC Forum device manufacturers to differentiate their products from
competition
● Is well established since 2012
● Provides certificate recognized by many organizations across the world
34. CORE ELEMENTS OF CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
1. Clear certification process controlled through documentations and procedures
2. Test cases to verify compliance to the technical specifications
Test cases have been approved and validated by different stakeholders
3. Approved Test Tools
Test Tools have successfully completed a validation process at the validation house
4. Authorized Test Laboratories

38. HOW CAN YOU CERTIFY?
● Steps to certify a device
More information here
41. CERTIFICATION RELEASES
● Certification Release is a group of consistent test cases and process documents
● Certification Release defines different NFC Forum device classes: each supporting a specific set
of features called interoperability modules
These device classes target to serve different use cases and applications.
Defined in the Devices Requirements document.
● For each Certification Release, Test Cases documents are grouped in a Test Release
● Product certification is only possible for Active Certification Releases
When a new Certification Release is published, the NFC Forum provides a grace period up to 18 calendar
months on the previous Certification Release
● After the grace period ends, the expired Certification Release is invalid

44. IMPROVED USER EXPERIENCE
● To give to the users the best NFC user experience
The intended action is successful from the first attempt.
The experience is consistent with all devices from the NFC-ecosystem.
● This is achieved when devices can complete transactions with any counter
part from the NFC-ecosystem. How certification helps it?
1. Analog testing: Robust communication in the operating volume between
different antenna sizes.
2. Digital testing: Robust data exchange on protocol level.
3. Tag performance testing: Robust data exchange in the operating volume.
These enable the execution of NDEF application and enable interoperability
within NFC-ecosystem.
