Spring Break Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Spring Break" may initially seem like a straightforward task,
filled with memories of sunny beaches, vibrant festivities, and the joy of a temporary escape
from routine. However, beneath the surface lies the challenge of capturing the essence of this
experience in a way that is engaging, reflective, and unique.
The difficulty arises from the need to balance personal anecdotes with broader themes associated
with Spring Break. It's not just about recounting events; it's about conveying the emotions,
lessons, and transformations that occurred during this period of respite. Describing the scenery
and activities is just the tip of the iceberg; the real challenge lies in delving into the impact these
moments had on personal growth and self-discovery.
Moreover, the task involves avoiding clichГ©s and predictable narratives. The danger of
producing a generic piece looms large, making it crucial to inject a distinctive voice into the
narrative. The struggle to find a fresh perspective on a theme that has been written about
countless times adds another layer of complexity to the writing process.
Selecting the right tone is yet another challenge. Balancing the lightheartedness associated with
Spring Break with a reflective and meaningful undertone requires finesse. The essay should be
entertaining without sacrificing depth, and vice versa.
In the end, what appears to be a straightforward task unfolds as a multifaceted endeavor that
demands creativity, introspection, and the ability to articulate personal experiences in a way that
resonates with a broader audience. It is an exercise in finding the delicate balance between vivid
storytelling and thoughtful reflection.
For those who find themselves grappling with these challenges, there's an alternative solution.

Ida B Wells Speech
In Ida B. Wells 1893 speech, Lynch Law In All Its Phases, Wells addresses the rapid
incline of white on black murders, predominantly in the southern part of The United
States, alongside the unwillingness of local, state, and federal governments in
cooperating to prosecute the perpetrators of these horrifying crimes. Throughout her
speech, Wells explains how disregarding the factual evidence and police reports of
these vicious crimes, the government effectively disenfranchises the black population
from achieving the rights and opportunities, that are guaranteed to all Americans by
the constitution, and only results in them becoming a prime example of a society that
has failed to protect their citizens. Through the use of her empirical audience,... Show

Her empirical audience acts a basis for her to speak to her intended audience and
agents of change: people of power. In her speech, she informs her empirical
audience that they have a solemn responsibility to educate everyone about the
injustices, through them we can see how Wells uses them to address people of
power in order to educate everyone about the injustices. While Wells was restricted
from reaching a vast population, people of power were not, which results in her
being able to achieve her goal of beginning to change the society she lives in and
the societies to come. This was a strategic move on her behalf because Wells
mentions when she wrote a newspaper article concerning the injustices, her
manager was fired and the paper suspended. Wells wasn t able to educate people in
the masses about the injustices because she didn t possess the power to do so,
therefore she resulted to addressing people of power in order to inspire them to
become agents of change and do the work that she was limited to. As Wells
inspires people of power she also inspires people of color alongside people who
face similar situations as herself. Wells draws parallels between the antebellum era
and her contemporary era in order to inspire her audience in the sense that if their
ancestors can overcome their oppression, then so can they. This parallel allows
Wells to transcend from her temporal context and address mediated audiences, such
as civil rights activist in the 1950 s. Wells is able to continue to inspire people of all
standings to fight and overcome their oppressors like her ancestors and how she
eventually will. Through her strategic use of audience, Wells is able to achieve
everything that she initially intended
Greek Culture Influence On Western Civilization
In my opinion, the development of Western civilization is influenced by Greek
culture because of Western knowledge, political systems, and procedures such as
democracy and lawful equality originated there. The main reason is Greece is
introduced as home of many firsts in the humanities, especially in Western
civilization. Indeed, knowledge foundation of mathematics, medicine, astrology, or
linguistics is nearly taken from the ancient Greece. For example, the Greek alphabet
was the first alphabet in the Western sense of the word. The Greek alphabet include
two letters called alpha and beta. Nowadays, the western alphabet has still created by
the two letters, including letters such as A, B, E, and O. In addition, Greeceis home of

Military Drinking Age
Drinking Age of the Military: Should it be Lowered
Jason M. Stoudt
DeVry University
The drinking age in the military is currently set at 21 years old as it is set for the
rest of the country. There has been an age old statement widely used by those in
the military, If I am old enough to fight and die for my country, I should be old
enough to drink . The debate is out there that the drinking age should be lowered
for all young adults from 18 years old to 21 years old. The idea behind the fact that
younger people tend to have less responsibility and are not good candidates for
being allowed to drink is a valid point. Those serving in the military are different in
that respect for the fact that they have more responsibilities than that ... Show more

One of the examples that is used to show that lowering the drinking age to 18 years
of age is a bad thing is a panel that was done in 1975 to 1993. In this panel they
surveyed 39 states that had lowered the drinking age to 18 yrs old between the
1970 s and the 1980 s. The mortality rate for those states included in the study
showed that once the drinking age was lowered the fatality rate from motor
vehicle accidents had risen substantially; most of the fatal accidents were at night.
When the drinking age was raised back to 21 years old the fatality rate had
dropped back to a lower level as it had before the age was lowered. The
documentation shows that when those that are 18 to 21 years old are allowed to
drink the death rate from alcohol consumption in motor vehicle accidents are
raised. Now the death rate for those that are over the age of 21 years old has
increased slightly only due to the fact that the younger population now allowed to
drink has been introduced into the equation (Carpenter Dobkin, 2011). Simply
stating that because they are allowed to drink at 18 years old and that some of them
get into accidents with motor vehicles while intoxicated on alcohol is irrelevant in
the case that there is evidence in the report that those that are over 21 years old are
still getting into the same type of accidents. Also considering the level of technology
that is current in the world today
What Is The Difference Between Phylum Prifera And

Comparison between Non Cephalized Phylum Porifera and Phylum Cnidaria
Kenneth Ng, A0125933E, Group A05
In the Animalia kingdom, many different phylum emerged over a long period of
time due to evolution. Each phylum exhibit different characteristics which the
multicellular animals have developed to adapt to the environment for survival.
Examples are such as developing the ability to move from water to land and from
land to water, apart from being sessile. There are also developmental structures of the
animals to allow them to adapt for survival, like having exoskeletons or internal
skeletal structures for support, skin for protection, muscles for locomotion, nervous
system for senses and digestive systems for digesting complex food (Farabee, 2007).
It is said that organisms without cephalisation are able to survive in oceans filled with
planktons. Organisms without cephalisation from the ocean are mainly from phylum
Porifera (a.k.a. sponges) and phylum Cnidaria. ... Show more content on

Though there are some similarities between the 2 phyla, there are distinct differences

Market structure defined as the number of firms producing identical products which
are homogeneous in economics. There are four types of market structure in
economics which are perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly and
monopoly. The imperfectly competitive structure is quite identical to the realistic
market conditions where some monopolistic competition, oligopoly and monopoly
exist and dominate the market conditions. The elements of Market Structure include
the number and size distribution of firms, entry conditions, and the extent of
differentiation. However, perfect competitionconsider as perfect competitive structure

Halloween, 300, And Frozen
Criticism is the practice of judging the qualities and faults of something, such as
movies in this case. Literary exchanges contain three participants, the text, the
source, and the receiver. The analysis for literary work is classified into three
modes of schools of criticism and theory. These are the emphasis on the text,
emphasis on the source, and emphasis on the receiver; each school acting as an
umbrella for various types of criticism in which they focus on one of the three
participants of literary relations in a unique way. The type of criticism that best fits
the movie reviews of Halloween, 300, and Frozen are reader response criticism, new
criticism, and structuralism respectively. Reader response criticism, a branch under
the emphasis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Formalism is a type of criticism that foreground[s] the design of the text itself
above all or most other consideration. New criticism is a type of formalism that
overlooks the source and receiver for the most part, emphasizing instead the
intrinsic qualities of a unified literary work (Mays 1973 1974). A common saying
among new critics is that the keys to understanding a text exist within the text
itself (Brizee). Honest Trailers video review of the film 300 points out many
elements in the movie that make it what it is. Cornet and Murrell first introduce the
protagonist Leonidas, who is cinema s yelliest king. They follow this by presenting
the antagonist Xerxes, who is a hairless giant with an entire jewelry store on his
face and a voice that sounds like he is in the witness protection program. The critics
then provide evidence of the homoerotic undertones they took away from the movie.
The video review notes how the movie consists of overused visual tricks featuring
dramatic falling stuff, Instagram filters, and super slow motion (Cornet). Cornet and
Murrell use this emphasis on the text to pay close attention to the movie details and
structure in order to discover the meaning and performance of the film. Hence,
Honest Trailers use new criticism to review 300 as they satirically criticize the film s
overuse of dramatic intrinsic features such as imagery, tone,
Spatial Definition Of Children s Behavior
1.6 Effects of Spatial Definition of Behaviour Settings on Children s Behaviour A
well defined setting has a positive overall impact on the development process of
children by facilitating positive actions and activities. These spaces have least
amount of competition levels as social interactions are encouraged. The
characteristics of well defined settings has been discussed in the previous chapter.
Poorly defined settings have a negative impact on the behaviour setting as social
interactions are not encouraged and hence the levels of competition are higher than
that in a well defined setting. Such settings are characterised by the presence of large
unused spaces, lack of any dividers, overhead elements, book cases
Glg 101 Week 1
The last three weeks I have learned about three habits, and they are; habit 1 being
proactive, habit 2 begin with the end in mind, and lastly, habit 3 first thing s first, I
have an so learned how to use them anywhere.lastly, how they can/will improve my
life for good and help me through a difficult path.
The first habit was about being proactive which means going out doing things like
working hard on school assignments or work.To be proactive is a big thing in life
like being successful and working hard it can help you work anywhere if you re
successful and not giving up on life. I think that this habit is very important in life
and people without it are nothing because being proactive helps you move up in
life. When you re being proactive, you are one step ahead. You are trying to
prevent problems from ever arising and if/when a problem does arise, you are
prepared to tackle it. When you re proactive, you are making things happen for
yourself, rather than waiting around for things to happen to you.I will use it by
being proactive playing sports includes being nice people and socializing in a good
way, that habit means a lot of things and also this habit can help in a lot of ways. ...

Homosexuality Is Defined As Sexual Desire Or Behavior
Homosexuality hasn t been discovered recently. It has been common in our world
since ancient times and still exists today. (K.J .Dover,n.d.). It s in the nature of an
individual to be a homosexual, something that cannot be changed no matter how
much you persuade or force them. People have different attitudes towards
homosexuality; some are tolerant about it while others can t stand the mere fact to
see them around. This essay is going to define and briefly discuss homosexuality
and how our society reacts to it. Homosexuality is defined as sexual desire or
behavior directed toward a person or persons of one s own sex. (American
Psychological Association, n.d.). In our society today, homosexuals are harassed and
discriminated simply because they are different. They are attracted to the same sex
and this causes dislike and hatred towards them in our society. Laws are passed in
states such as California for protecting homosexuals and also allowing homosexuality
marriages to take place.
Everyone has a right to:
Choose what they want to be.
Choose who they want to be with.
Believe in what they think is right
We as human beings are programmed to be either heterosexual, bi sexual or
homosexuals. It is our society s responsibility to let them practice what makes them
happy. Legislative laws have also been passed which gives every individual equal
rights, equal dignity and recognition. Our society has to accept this practice and stop
discriminating the homosexuals. It s

Tierra Cholestasis Case Study
Tierra is a 23yo, G2 P1001, who was seen for a follow up ultrasound and
consultation. As you know, she has a dichorionic/diamniotic twin gestation. She
did undergo FTS that returned low risk. She also has a history of a previous
cesarean delivery. She herself reportedly was born with a small cleft palate but it
closed on its own. Most recently, the patient has developed cholestasis and is now
on ursodiol 300 mg t.i.d. She states that she still periodically itches but the
medication has markedly improved her status. She believes that she has had the
itching for about 2 3 weeks. On today s evaluation, she does have good fetal
movement and otherwise has no obstetrical complaints. By dates, she is 33 ВЅ
weeks. Both twins are cephalic with twin A on the left, slightly anterior, and twin B
more to the right and superior. Both have good amniotic fluid. The dividing
membrane is identified. The BPP scores are 8/8 and the Doppler studies are
reassuring. An overview fetal anatomy assessment was performed, though limited by
the more advanced gestational age in conjunction with twins. No gross
malformations were noted but again a detailed assessment was not possible.... Show

Normally, the plan with dichorionic/diamniotic twins who are progressing well,
delivery would occur at around 38 weeks gestation but with cholestasis this changes

weeks gestation and we concur with this

In the novel Eliza tells Jane that she will leave once her mother passes away. She
says that she will execute a long cherished project; seek a retirement where
punctual habits would be permanently secured from disturbance, and place safe
barriers between herself and a frivolous world. (Bronte 235 ) Eliza is going to join
a nunnery and follow the Roman Catholic dogmas. Eliza feels that the structure of
the Catholic religion is the one best calculated to ensure the doing of all things
decently and in order (Bronte 241). Yet even with her religious structure, Eliza
lacks the true compassionate spirit of Christianity. She has little patience even
when it comes to her sister. Eliza conveys the feeling that having such a rigid
schedule made one morally superior and no one could have considered her
morally lax. Yet it is through these ritualistic attitudes that Bronte portrays Eliza as
a morally lazy Christian. Eliza believes that completing three hours of prayer every
day will secure her a place with God. Bronte considered the belief that this type of
Catholic contrition will save your soul as ridiculous (Rife). Though she may seem
devoted to her religion, Eliza is a rigid, angry, compassionless woman who does not
shed a tear when her mother dies. Eliza is self centered and unable to express any
form of love. By portraying Eliza in this manner, Bronte was able to express her
feelings about the Roman Catholic
Annie Between The States Analysis
Annie Between the States Imagine You were in the Civil War and you were a
southern girl and you admired a Northern Guy, what would that be like? Annie
Between the States is a story about how people in and out of the Civil War change.
L.M. Elliott the author uses the raids of the houses to show how much supplies,
goods, and food is stolen or taken from houses and families during the Civil War.
In one of the raids in Annie Between the States, people called Yankees raided a
town called Manassas. In the raid a lot of things were stolen from just one house,
so imagine how much they stole from the whole town! This time when they
squabbled over Manassas, the Yankees took everything, Annie. They cut down all
my corn for their horses, chopped down my apple trees for their campfires. They
took off with my gobblers, even though poor Will stood outside the pen and
begged them not to take the turkeys. (pg. 218) This shows that there was a lot of
goods, supplies and food stolen from houses in the civil war. In another raid that
was lead by union troops raided a house called hickory heights. look under the

thought that the author L.M. Elliott did a nice job blending the historical fact of the
Civil war in with the book. I think that a lot of the book was accurate. It was just a
little confusing with the characters, but it was a good
A Good Leader
7. Be the example
Many time people in charge will lead by the motto Do as I say not as I do . By
doing this one sets across the notion that all an employee has to do is promote then
they can slack off. Imagine what will happen to an organization if that mindset was
the norm for its managers. A company or organization would hit a screeching halt in
productivity. A leader must set the bar for their employees by being the example.
Good leaders will often roll up their sleeves with the rest of the organization. Even if
you are not in a leadership position you are still a leader. Showing how the
expectations are met in a consistent manner and not giving a mixed message to others
is vital to good leadership.
8. Focus on the development of others
A good leader will have others to follow in their footsteps. Being a mentor to others
will help ensure that true growth will come from those that follow you. Even if your
organization does not have a mentorship program, taking it upon yourself to direct
the personal development of others will not only increases the success of the
individual and the company, but also will increase your own development. What
good is a leader to an organization when they leave and everything falls apart?
Showing others how to lead and teaching them the tools they need to lead will help to
establish longevity.
The mentorship of employees is not only for the brightest star, but also for ones that
have potential but fail to reach said potential.
A Comparison of the Legacy of Upton Sinclair s The

1906 would see the publication of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle, pushing through
major reforms of the meatpacking industry and eventually causing the government to
take actions to protect the health of its people; almost fifty years later, the
publication of Rachel Carson s novel Silent Spring would invoke a similar, but
changed response to the threat of DDT. Although both would lead to government
legislation creating major changes, the original intentions of the authors themselves
differed, as well as their satisfaction of the results. However, both still leave a legacy
for today, as legislation still stands that reflects the widespread reform that ensued.

Unlike Carson, who would find her naturalist roots to be her driving force, Sinclair
s reasons for publishing his groundbreaking work would stem from his ties to the
Socialist Party, rather than the actual material itself being covered. Sinclair would
even go as to say that he had come to write the Uncle Tom s Cabin of the Labor
movement (Arthur, 124) Carson and Sinclair would differ greatly on the subject of
cause and motivation for their novels, regardless of the similar sized conflict and
controversy. Both Upton Sinclair and Rachel Carson would initially find their books
to be extremely difficult to be published. An early version of the Jungle titled An
Appeal to Reason would be rejected five times before becoming a bestseller(Young,
467). Carson would face similar trials with her publisher, Houghton Mifflin, which
was tempted to suppress the novel after complaints in the news and by major
corporations(McLauglin, 2). Both novels in this aspect would face similar treatment
after being discouraged from publishing by publishing companies and the public,
citing the controversial material as the reason. Even though the material was very
different, both Sinclair and Carson would draw similar criticisms for their novels
before publication. But as the novels would still be successfully published, the
different public opinion of the two novels would be in completely different aspects of

Suffragists Tactics
In this world, women are not always in the equal position as men. Women have
been fighting for their own rights for centuries. Suffragists made great efforts to
win the voting rights for women in the United States. Women s right movement in
the mid 1800s was the beginning of the increasing of the women s social position.
Continuing the early suffragists strategy, the next generation used various tactics in
a more radical way than their predecessors did with an effort to gain the rights to
vote. Though there were a lot of consequences, they never gave up fighting. The
descendent of the early suffragists continued to try to gain rights for women around
the world. Among them, some are really influencial like Alice Paul, Rose Winslow,
and Carrie Chapman Catt. All of them made extremely impressive contributions to
the process of fighting for the suffrage. Catt created a detailed plan with an aim to
gain the suffrage from one state to another and all the suffragists all over the
country followed it as well as those who worked for the rights for women. Their
work had efforts in all these actions and women gradually won the voting rights state
by state. They eventually gained the rights to vote for the... Show more content on

Paul learned about civil disobedience and many other unladylike tactics to draw
attention from the public to her cause. After returning to the states, she brought all
these skills with her and joined National Woman Suffrage Association. In 1913, her
colleagues and she started an enormous parade and more marches and protests
followed it. They were jailed for obstructing the sidewalk but soon release. What s
more, she agitated for the passage of a federal suffrage amendment just like Anthony
did. In the end, Congress passed the nineteenth amendment and women earned their
voting rights. After all the efforts made, women finally had their position in an
How Infant Attachment Is Affected By Mother Infant...
INTRO
It is no surprise that a parent s mental health and behavior can have an effect on a
developing infant s ability to grow an attachment and a bond with said parent. This
holds especially true for the bond between the mother and the infant, be it that on
average the mother infant dyad spends the most one on one time together
comparatively. According to Raval and colleagues (2001), a parent s state of mind
influences their sensitivity in caregiving behavior, which then has an effect on the
child s attachment pattern/strategy. There are a wide variety of other factors that can
have an effect on an infant s developing attachment style, such as parental states of

that they cannot rely on their parent for their needs to be met, as they have mothers
who have been inconsistently responsive. Disorganized/disoriented infants can be
characterized as a severely confused child with a lack of apparent strategy by their
parent to meet their needs. (Raval et al., 2001)
MOTHER S RESPONSIVENESS
Infant attachment styles are largely impacted by the responsiveness of the mother to
the infant s needs and signals, but also by the behavior of the infant itself. The results
of the study showed that greater maternal responsiveness was a predictive factor for
secure infant attachment. For example, the secure infants had mothers who scored
significantly higher scores for total responsiveness to the child s needs and signals
than the mothers of avoidant children. (Raval et al., 2001) Raval and his colleagues
(2001) also discovered that an infant s behavior is less influential than maternal
behavior in shaping attachment patterns, though still influential. Shown in the results
of the study, maternal sensitivity to the child s needs and signals, as well as maternal
attachment to the child both make independent contributions to infant attachment.

Of Death In Conversation, And Li-Young Lee s Persimmons
Death is the wish of some, the relief of many, and the end of all. Conversation is a
poem about how death is horrible event that will happen to everyone while
Persimmons deals with death in a more positive way. In the Poems, Conversation and
Persimmons by Ai and Li Young Lee, they share the common theme of death
but how
differently someone can deal with it. In the Poem Conservation by Ai, the theme of
death is heavily expressed. The poem illustrates the inevitability of death and how it
controls overtime. Robert Lowell is the figure which was taken by Death, and the Ai
is addressing his fate. Death is such a powerful certainty that Ai does not want to hear
of it. Ai compares Death to casualties. Ai mentions your own life... Show more

Lee cannot remember his Chinese language which further solidifies the death of
his original culture, Not only was the theme of death revealed through culture but
physically when Lee s mother died. However, death led to the strong family
connection between Lee and his father. Repetition is implemented in Conservation
to signify the importance of death. The repetition of the words ten times is
powerful in which it emphasizes the idea of death and how much of a struggle it
is. Only ten times clearer, ten times more horrible. Could anyone alive survive it
(Ai 29/30)? Ai uses repetition to show the terrible fate of death. Throughout the
Persimmons poem, there is a repetition of the words lost and forgotten, which
represent his memories of his mother. Lee found two forgotten persimmons, which
represent his lost mother and him. I found two wrapped in newspaper, forgotten
and not yet ripe (Lee 49/50). He is confused and lost after his mother dies, but each
morning he tries to understand the meaning of his mother s words about every
persimmon having a glowing sun inside. Lee s mother meant that try to find the
good from a horrible situation. Lee s mothers passing was a tragedy, but it helped
create a stronger relationship with his father. Death occurred, but it led to hope and
aspiration. The imagery in Conversation is vivid and unpleasant, the sequence of

DUI Cases In Court
A DUI is a serious offense, and it can be life changing if you re convicted. If found
guilty, you could pay fines, serve time, lose your license and limit your employment
opportunities. Of course, not everyone charged with a DUI is guilty, but the arrest
can have a negative impact even if you re found innocent. Here are three important
steps to getting your like back on track after a DUI arrest.
Lawyer Up
If you are arrested for DUI or DWI, hire an experienced lawyer immediately, if not
sooner. Avoid talking to the policeuntil your lawyer is present and make sure you
ve hired an experienced DUI attorney. Experienced attorneys can mount a defense
even if you were given a breathalyzer or blood test. At issue may be the breathalyzer
machine s maintenance history, blood collection procedures and blood storage
procedures prior to testing. An attorney with a previous DUI case history will call
into question important factors a less experienced attorney could miss. The authority
s must prove your guilt beyond any doubt, so you find an attorney experienced at
creating questions.
Clam Up
While you should talk to your attorney about the details of your arrest, don t share
that information with anyone else. This includes friends, family members and
coworkers. Remember that any of these people can be subpoenaed and brought into ...

It is, however, always wise to do some self reflection after a DUI arrest. If you
frequently have a cocktail or two even when driving, it may be wise to stop, even
if you quit drinking long before becoming impaired. Multiple DUI arrests are more
trouble than they are worth even if you are found innocent. If you know that you
do sometimes drink more than you should before driving or have a problem with
alcohol, let your DUI be a wake up call. Admitting you need help and getting it will
keep you out of legal trouble and make you safer on the road. The life you save could

Cuckoo s Nest Psychiatry
A more negative portrayal of the institution system is shown in One Flew Over the
Cuckoo s Nest (1975) directed by Milos Forman. It is considered to demonstrate the
changing face of psychiatry. The film which was based on Ken Kesey s book of the
same title, was made during the period which is known as the Anti Psychiatry
Movement during the 60 s and 70 s. The public s consciousness around the reality of
psychiatric institutions and psychiatry itself was developing in a different way. A
number of theorists worked together in order to outline the issues which were still a
major part in psychiatry. (Fleming and Manvell, 1985) In his book Madness and
Civilisation: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason (1964), Michael Foucault
discussed the nature of asylums as a way of institutional control (Donaldson, 2005).
He argued that the running of these institutes were not effective at all and infact
harmful to the patients (Donaldson, 2005). It was pointed out that all the patients
were forced to accept a role given to them set by the institute (Fleming and... Show

Then, physicians and especially psychiatrists began to call illness (that is, of
course mental illness) anything and everything in which they could detect a sign
of malfunctioning, based on no matter what norm (Fleming and Manvell, 1985).
R.D Laing talked about the labeling of illness as a way of social control in The
Politics of Experience and The Birds of Paradise (1967) (Donaldson, 2005). Laing
saw psychiatry as a political profession that is used to repress individuality. (Fleming
and Manvell, 1985). During this time, psychiatry s authority was questioned as it is
shown in the 1975 production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest. In the film we
see the free spirited R.P. McMurphy, played by Jack Nicholson, banished to a
psychiatric unit rather than prison for committing statutory
Eugenics And Its Impact On Society
Since the 1800s, the school has continually been seen as a means of eliminating
poverty, crime, and social problems (Spring, 2014, p. 83). Society and schools are
closely interdependent. Changes within society cause a need for modifications within
the school system. Similarly, alterations within the schoolsystem impact society.
Previous sociological, historical, and reform movements resulted in drastic
educational and societal changes. These movements varied from the common school
reform to the attempt to control the spread of inferior blood into the general
population (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1).
This idea of controlling the spread of inferior blood was called eugenics. Eugenics is
the study of the agencies under social control that seek to improve or impair the
racial qualities of future generations either physically or mentally (Stoskopf, 1999,
p. 1). Eugenics is rarely discussed in modern school systems; American s often want
to forget this harmful experiment. However, eugenics has had an insidious effect on
the lives of students and the organization of public schools (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1).
The eugenics movement believed that criminality, intelligence, and pauperism were
passed down in families as simple dominant or recessive hereditary traits (Stoskopf,
1999, p. 1). Eugenicists decided to sterilize many families who may carry these traits.
They argued, America must be kept American (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 2). This concept
provided the guiding ideology behind
Analysis Of Concerto For Violin And Cello
Concerto for Violin and Cello, Op.102 (Brahms, Johannes)
First movement Allegro.
The concert begins with an orchestral tutti of four measures that outlines the eventual
main theme of the movement; the cello collects the last three notes and launches
forward in an impassive and unaccompanied recitative, but at the right time, as
indicated. The wooden instruments gently present the second motif (in major key),
which is taken by the violins, who in turn develop it in the form of a rhapsody before
they join the cello in an extensive dialogue. Only after this does the course of the first
movement finally begin.
The main reasons are widely contrasted in character, being the first challenging and
passionate and the second warmly lyrical. Between both, in the initial presentation of
the orchestra of this material, appears a hectic and syncopated figure, which can be
heard later. Both motifs are then re exposed by the soloists on their own terms before
leading to a brief development and recapitulation section. At the end of this movement
the tonality of return to minor.
Second movement Andante.
A horn touch in ascending fourth, with an answer in the wooden instruments,
becomes the first four notes of the main theme of the Andante , a broad melody sung
by the two soloists in octaves. When the melody ceases, there is an abrupt change of
tone that provided pure pleasure and the wooden instruments offer a new and exciting
theme, trumpet plays the two notes that mark the

I believe that each student is a person who needs a safe, caring, and stimulating
environment in which they can grow emotionally, intellectually, physically, and

in each of these areas by providing them a warm, safe, caring and cooperative

Although the supervisor controls the situation, directive informational still allows
the teacher some say in how situations will be handled. This is a great tool for a
supervisor to keep his staff informed and allow them to still have control over what
is going to happen in their classroom. Post reflection will also be needed when using
the directive informational approach. This will be a great time for the staff member
and supervisor to get together and reflect on what has been happening in the
classroom, and whether the new strategy has been successful or not.
As a teacher I believe students need to find interest in all aspects of life. Curriculum
developed around students interest will motivate and stimulate a passion to keep
growing and learning. Students need to have input and generate ideas of their own.
Set Goals so their lives are much richer when they obtain, or strive for these personal
goals. This is excerpt of my current philosophy of education on file at my current

preparing for a career in teaching .(Winch, 2012, p.38) As a future supervisor my
beliefs are shifting as I continue to take courses toward my masters in education. I
believe that all teachers can teach, just as all students can learn. By using the

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Plea Bargaining
Plea bargaining is important in the criminal justice system. It is an essential tool
that benefits not only the prosecutor but the defense attorney and the defendant.
Plea bargaining allows attorneys to decide cases without needing the judge or a
jury to decide the case. It can be beneficial to both the prosecutor and the defense
attorney because the prosecutor will have a conviction and the defense attorney
would have gained a lesser charge for his client. Throughout this paper I will lead
you through the process of plea bargaining, the pros and cons, and how it reflects on
crimecontrol and the due process model.
Plea Bargaining
What is plea bargaining? According to Black s Law Dictionary it is a negotiated
agreement between a prosecutor and a criminal defendant whereby the defendant
pleads guilty to a lesser offense or to one of multiple charges in exchange for some
concession by the prosecutor. This usually involves the defendant pleading guilty to a
lighter sentence. If the offer by the prosecution is accepted then the defendant can
either plead guilty or nolo contendere which means I do not contest this. Both of the
pleas are similar, the only difference is the nolo contendere plea cannot be used as
admission of guilt in a civil case (Siegel, Schmalleger, Worrall, Chapter 12, 2011)....

Five Miles The winter air wraps me up like a thin, old blanket that is just about to
break. I feel it course through my lungs, searing my alveolar sacs as they
desperately try to extract a few molecules of oxygen from the air, renewing my
depleted blood and sending it whooshing back to my legs and arms traveling
almost 12,000 miles in a day. And I was only doing five. I hit a hill and feel that
soreness in my legs, as if they had been wrung dry like a wet towel; sore but not

Coming from public school, I wasn t sure what to expect from physical education,
but after some rationalization, I arrived at joining the cross country team in order
to fulfill my requirement. I arrived at cross country through the process of
elimination. I couldn t kick a ball and run in a straight line at the same time; no

without us ever seeing the fruits of our labor; no maple syrup harvesting. I didn t
really know what the last one had to do with physical education, but I knew I did

Furthermore, this acquisition explains the currency translation adjustment made in
the theme parks segment during 2015 and 2016 to represent current United States

entertainment segment in 2016. Comcast acquired DreamWorks Animation for
$3.8 billion, of which $2.7 bilion was recognized in 2016 (Stelter, 2016). With this
acquisition, NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burker said Dreamworks will help us grow
our film, television, theme parks and consumer products businesses for years to
come (Stelter, 2016). Consequently, the entrance into the filmed entertainment and
theme parks segment explains the decrease in gross profit percentage from 2014
to 2016 along these business segments. Moreover, Comcast closed a multi year
movie distribution deal with Alibaba to tap into the Chinese Market, which
Furious 7 and Jurassic World made almost $630 million in the box office (Krause,
2015). This deal was a move towards distribution of their filmed entertainment
segment outside of the United States. Moving forward, cable networks increased
$232 million, which is in part to the reclassifications of certain operations and
businesses from corporate and other to this segment. Be on the lookout for
NBCUniversal s new $3.3 billion park in Beijing set to open in 2019 (Hertzler, 2014).

the government is the one who labeled blacks as property, beat them profusely, and
stripped away at any possible humanity they were entitled to. They took blacks from
their home country, labeled them as inferior and as subservient knee benders . John
Brown grew up witnessing these horrid actions and, on without any violence.
However, these passive actions were combated with his removal from the church for
trying to allowing blacks to sit in his pew in church, Elijah Lovejoy (an antislavery
minster and editor), was killed after publishing an article against the lynching of
blacks, Senator Charles Sumner, who delivered an antislavery speech on the floor of

Creon s Role of King and His Responsibilities
Creon s Role Of King and His Responsibilities The role of the king in the time of
Greek tragedies was simultaneously desired and dreaded because of the king s
responsibility to the people and because of the effects of the position on the king s
character. Creon reveals such ambivalent thoughts towards the kingship in his speech
defending himself from Oedipus s conspiracy accusation in Oedipus the King; these
ambivalent thoughts reveal much about the nature of the kingship, especially in
conjunction with Creon s later actions in Antigone. In attempting to refute Oedipus s
assertion that Creon has taken part in a conspiracy to obtain the kingship, Creon
evaluates the nature of the kingship and of his present role. First, he says,... Show

1128 1129). Creon s words and actions in Antigone indicate that he has taken on the
negative characteristics of king that he describes in his speech in Oedipus the
King. He has same amount of power as king, but he now seems to have lost his
wisdom and self control. This indicates that perhaps his words to Oedipus are, in
fact, mainly an insult to the position of king and to what it evokes from a person s
character rather than an insult solely directed towards Oedipus. Creon also feels
that the king is generally not responsive to the desires of the citizenry: But if I
were the king myself, I must/ do much that went against the grain (36.590 591). By
this, Creon means that in his present position, he is more apt than the king to know
the will of the people and to respond accordingly. Again, this seems to be a flaw
inherent in the kingship based on Creon s actions in Antigone. As king Creon is
blind to the fact that the people of Thebes are opposed to his actions concerning the
punishment of Antigone. One who is not king, Creon s son Haemon, senses the will
of the people: But what I can hear, in the dark, are things like these: the city mourns
for this girl; they think she is dying most wrongly and most undeservedly of all
womenkind, for the most glorious acts. (188.746 749) Haemon
Essay On Christing
He struggled to remain engaged in conversation with his men, and his gaze kept
shifting to Guinevere. Something about her seemed...off. She smiled and
responded to questions, but something about her facial expression hinted she was
in discomfort. Smiles did not quite reach her eyes, and she rolled her neck like she
was suffering from a mild headache. Alis took Guinevere by the arm away from the
group and whispered something in her ear. Her hands sliding to her belly, the
queen nodded and winced. Arthur was just about to approach when Guinevere
giggled and Alis rubbed her back. Perhaps Guinevere s back ached, as it had of late,
or she had indigestion from the rich meal. Sire, did you hear what I said? Gawain
gestured with his tankard... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fetch Mary, someone start boiling water, warm blankets before the fire,
and...whatever else needs to happen, make it happen, he told no one in particular.
Please, Arthur, don t go into a frenzy, said Guinevere. It ll be fine. Sire, come with
us. Perceval gestured to the door. Well pass the time in the meeting chamber down
the corridor for your rooms. That way, you ll be close by when your child arrives.
Arthur hated it when he could not control a situation, but since he was not a
midwife, what was there left for him to do? It was not as if he could offer his
expertise. However, he could offer his wife support during this painful time, but
Mary had expressed to him (repeatedly) that his presence in the birthing chamber
was not desirable. Perceval had been in the room for his son s birth and passed out,
which caused quite the disturbance. Ulrich had barged his way into his child s
birth, too, and had been decidedly more stalwart, but Mary had grown fed up with
men in her way while she worked, and Arthur did not want to irritate one of the two
women who would be responsible for seeing his child into the world safely. Come
along, sire, Gawain urged. No need to be so tense. Really, Gawain? Drea rolled her
eyes. If my time comes, you ll be docile? Wallace and I will be in the tavern, where
we belong. Rubbish, said Ulrich. You ll be pacing the corridors, sweating and having
to be propped up by me, Perceval, and Lionel.
Elizabeth Duboy Sustainability Analysis
The waterfront is the origin of human culture and economy. A lot of creatures
depend on water for life, mankind is no exception. Therefore, the earliest villages
were close to water sources. This was not only because of our dependence on water
but also due to traffic concerns. The rise and fall of many cities was related to
transportation. In the very beginning, villages close to water turned into fishing
villages. In the age of navigation, they became the posts of trade. In the industrial age,
they became container ports. The old ports then became the new waterfront
appearance. Such a process represents the diversity of waterfront use and its
importance to human life and commercial activities. With the advancements in

attraction of waterfront area (operation and management). Waterfront development
includes political decision making, urban planning, architectural design, development
operation and management; the land development strategy mentioned in this paper
focuses not only on the development of points, but also on the development of lines
and surfaces. The waterfront land development strategy and urban development
strategies are closely related; more precisely, waterfront land development strategy is
one part of urban development strategy. At different stages and for different
problems, we need different development strategies; for analysis of waterfront land
development strategy, this paper will explain in two aspects: the origin and
significance of strategy, and the contents of strategy: The origin and significance of

Spring Break Essay.pdf

  • 1. Spring Break Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "Spring Break" may initially seem like a straightforward task, filled with memories of sunny beaches, vibrant festivities, and the joy of a temporary escape from routine. However, beneath the surface lies the challenge of capturing the essence of this experience in a way that is engaging, reflective, and unique. The difficulty arises from the need to balance personal anecdotes with broader themes associated with Spring Break. It's not just about recounting events; it's about conveying the emotions, lessons, and transformations that occurred during this period of respite. Describing the scenery and activities is just the tip of the iceberg; the real challenge lies in delving into the impact these moments had on personal growth and self-discovery. Moreover, the task involves avoiding clichГ©s and predictable narratives. The danger of producing a generic piece looms large, making it crucial to inject a distinctive voice into the narrative. The struggle to find a fresh perspective on a theme that has been written about countless times adds another layer of complexity to the writing process. Selecting the right tone is yet another challenge. Balancing the lightheartedness associated with Spring Break with a reflective and meaningful undertone requires finesse. The essay should be entertaining without sacrificing depth, and vice versa. In the end, what appears to be a straightforward task unfolds as a multifaceted endeavor that demands creativity, introspection, and the ability to articulate personal experiences in a way that resonates with a broader audience. It is an exercise in finding the delicate balance between vivid storytelling and thoughtful reflection. For those who find themselves grappling with these challenges, there's an alternative solution. Similar essays, tailored to specific needs and preferences, can be effortlessly obtained through services like HelpWriting.net. • 2. Ida B Wells Speech In Ida B. Wells 1893 speech, Lynch Law In All Its Phases, Wells addresses the rapid incline of white on black murders, predominantly in the southern part of The United States, alongside the unwillingness of local, state, and federal governments in cooperating to prosecute the perpetrators of these horrifying crimes. Throughout her speech, Wells explains how disregarding the factual evidence and police reports of these vicious crimes, the government effectively disenfranchises the black population from achieving the rights and opportunities, that are guaranteed to all Americans by the constitution, and only results in them becoming a prime example of a society that has failed to protect their citizens. Through the use of her empirical audience,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her empirical audience acts a basis for her to speak to her intended audience and agents of change: people of power. In her speech, she informs her empirical audience that they have a solemn responsibility to educate everyone about the injustices, through them we can see how Wells uses them to address people of power in order to educate everyone about the injustices. While Wells was restricted from reaching a vast population, people of power were not, which results in her being able to achieve her goal of beginning to change the society she lives in and the societies to come. This was a strategic move on her behalf because Wells mentions when she wrote a newspaper article concerning the injustices, her manager was fired and the paper suspended. Wells wasn t able to educate people in the masses about the injustices because she didn t possess the power to do so, therefore she resulted to addressing people of power in order to inspire them to become agents of change and do the work that she was limited to. As Wells inspires people of power she also inspires people of color alongside people who face similar situations as herself. Wells draws parallels between the antebellum era and her contemporary era in order to inspire her audience in the sense that if their ancestors can overcome their oppression, then so can they. • 4. Military Drinking Age Drinking Age of the Military: Should it be Lowered Jason M. Stoudt DeVry University The drinking age in the military is currently set at 21 years old as it is set for the rest of the country. There has been an age old statement widely used by those in the military, If I am old enough to fight and die for my country, I should be old enough to drink . The debate is out there that the drinking age should be lowered for all young adults from 18 years old to 21 years old. The idea behind the fact that younger people tend to have less responsibility and are not good candidates for being allowed to drink is a valid point. Those serving in the military are different in that respect for the fact that they have more responsibilities than that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the examples that is used to show that lowering the drinking age to 18 years of age is a bad thing is a panel that was done in 1975 to 1993. In this panel they surveyed 39 states that had lowered the drinking age to 18 yrs old between the 1970 s and the 1980 s. The mortality rate for those states included in the study showed that once the drinking age was lowered the fatality rate from motor vehicle accidents had risen substantially; most of the fatal accidents were at night. When the drinking age was raised back to 21 years old the fatality rate had dropped back to a lower level as it had before the age was lowered. The documentation shows that when those that are 18 to 21 years old are allowed to drink the death rate from alcohol consumption in motor vehicle accidents are raised. Now the death rate for those that are over the age of 21 years old has increased slightly only due to the fact that the younger population now allowed to drink has been introduced into the equation (Carpenter Dobkin, 2011). Simply stating that because they are allowed to drink at 18 years old and that some of them get into accidents with motor vehicles while intoxicated on alcohol is irrelevant in the case that there is evidence in the report that those that are over 21 years old are still getting into the same type of accidents. Also considering the level of technology that is current in the world today

Each phylum exhibit different characteristics which the multicellular animals have developed to adapt to the environment for survival. Examples are such as developing the ability to move from water to land and from land to water, apart from being sessile. There are also developmental structures of the animals to allow them to adapt for survival, like having exoskeletons or internal skeletal structures for support, skin for protection, muscles for locomotion, nervous system for senses and digestive systems for digesting complex food (Farabee, 2007). Literary exchanges contain three participants, the text, the source, and the receiver. The analysis for literary work is classified into three modes of schools of criticism and theory. These are the emphasis on the text, emphasis on the source, and emphasis on the receiver; each school acting as an umbrella for various types of criticism in which they focus on one of the three participants of literary relations in a unique way. The type of criticism that best fits the movie reviews of Halloween, 300, and Frozen are reader response criticism, new criticism, and structuralism respectively. Formalism is a type of criticism that foreground[s] the design of the text itself above all or most other consideration. New criticism is a type of formalism that overlooks the source and receiver for the most part, emphasizing instead the intrinsic qualities of a unified literary work (Mays 1973 1974). A common saying among new critics is that the keys to understanding a text exist within the text itself (Brizee). Honest Trailers video review of the film 300 points out many elements in the movie that make it what it is. Cornet and Murrell first introduce the protagonist Leonidas, who is cinema s yelliest king. They follow this by presenting the antagonist Xerxes, who is a hairless giant with an entire jewelry store on his face and a voice that sounds like he is in the witness protection program. The critics then provide evidence of the homoerotic undertones they took away from the movie. The video review notes how the movie consists of overused visual tricks featuring dramatic falling stuff, Instagram filters, and super slow motion (Cornet). Cornet and Murrell use this emphasis on the text to pay close attention to the movie details and structure in order to discover the meaning and performance of the film. Hence, Honest Trailers use new criticism to review 300 as they satirically criticize the film s overuse of dramatic intrinsic features such as imagery, tone,

People have different attitudes towards homosexuality; some are tolerant about it while others can t stand the mere fact to see them around. This essay is going to define and briefly discuss homosexuality and how our society reacts to it. Homosexuality is defined as sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one s own sex. (American Psychological Association, n.d.). In our society today, homosexuals are harassed and discriminated simply because they are different. They are attracted to the same sex and this causes dislike and hatred towards them in our society. Laws are passed in states such as California for protecting homosexuals and also allowing homosexuality marriages to take place. Everyone has a right to: Choose what they want to be. Choose who they want to be with. Believe in what they think is right We as human beings are programmed to be either heterosexual, bi sexual or homosexuals. It is our society s responsibility to let them practice what makes them happy. Legislative laws have also been passed which gives every individual equal rights, equal dignity and recognition. Our society has to accept this practice and stop discriminating the homosexuals. It s

By doing this one sets across the notion that all an employee has to do is promote then they can slack off. Imagine what will happen to an organization if that mindset was the norm for its managers. A company or organization would hit a screeching halt in productivity. A leader must set the bar for their employees by being the example. Good leaders will often roll up their sleeves with the rest of the organization. Even if you are not in a leadership position you are still a leader. Showing how the expectations are met in a consistent manner and not giving a mixed message to others is vital to good leadership. 8. Focus on the development of others A good leader will have others to follow in their footsteps. Being a mentor to others will help ensure that true growth will come from those that follow you. Even if your organization does not have a mentorship program, taking it upon yourself to direct the personal development of others will not only increases the success of the individual and the company, but also will increase your own development. What good is a leader to an organization when they leave and everything falls apart? Showing others how to lead and teaching them the tools they need to lead will help to establish longevity. The mentorship of employees is not only for the brightest star, but also for ones that have potential but fail to reach said potential.

This holds especially true for the bond between the mother and the infant, be it that on average the mother infant dyad spends the most one on one time together comparatively. According to Raval and colleagues (2001), a parent s state of mind influences their sensitivity in caregiving behavior, which then has an effect on the child s attachment pattern/strategy. Resistant infants know that they cannot rely on their parent for their needs to be met, as they have mothers who have been inconsistently responsive. (Raval et al., 2001) MOTHER S RESPONSIVENESS Infant attachment styles are largely impacted by the responsiveness of the mother to the infant s needs and signals, but also by the behavior of the infant itself. The results of the study showed that greater maternal responsiveness was a predictive factor for secure infant attachment. For example, the secure infants had mothers who scored significantly higher scores for total responsiveness to the child s needs and signals than the mothers of avoidant children. (Raval et al., 2001) Raval and his colleagues (2001) also discovered that an infant s behavior is less influential than maternal behavior in shaping attachment patterns, though still influential. It is considered to demonstrate the changing face of psychiatry. The film which was based on Ken Kesey s book of the same title, was made during the period which is known as the Anti Psychiatry Movement during the 60 s and 70 s. The public s consciousness around the reality of psychiatric institutions and psychiatry itself was developing in a different way. A number of theorists worked together in order to outline the issues which were still a major part in psychiatry. (Fleming and Manvell, 1985) In his book Madness and Civilisation: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason (1964), Michael Foucault discussed the nature of asylums as a way of institutional control (Donaldson, 2005). He argued that the running of these institutes were not effective at all and infact harmful to the patients (Donaldson, 2005). • 26. Eugenics And Its Impact On Society Since the 1800s, the school has continually been seen as a means of eliminating poverty, crime, and social problems (Spring, 2014, p. 83). Society and schools are closely interdependent. Changes within society cause a need for modifications within the school system. Similarly, alterations within the schoolsystem impact society. Previous sociological, historical, and reform movements resulted in drastic educational and societal changes. These movements varied from the common school reform to the attempt to control the spread of inferior blood into the general population (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). This idea of controlling the spread of inferior blood was called eugenics. Eugenics is the study of the agencies under social control that seek to improve or impair the racial qualities of future generations either physically or mentally (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). Eugenics is rarely discussed in modern school systems; American s often want to forget this harmful experiment. However, eugenics has had an insidious effect on the lives of students and the organization of public schools (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). The eugenics movement believed that criminality, intelligence, and pauperism were passed down in families as simple dominant or recessive hereditary traits (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). Eugenicists decided to sterilize many families who may carry these traits. They argued, America must be kept American (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 2). This concept provided the guiding ideology behind

The concert begins with an orchestral tutti of four measures that outlines the eventual main theme of the movement; the cello collects the last three notes and launches forward in an impassive and unaccompanied recitative, but at the right time, as indicated. The wooden instruments gently present the second motif (in major key), which is taken by the violins, who in turn develop it in the form of a rhapsody before they join the cello in an extensive dialogue. Only after this does the course of the first movement finally begin. The main reasons are widely contrasted in character, being the first challenging and passionate and the second warmly lyrical. Between both, in the initial presentation of the orchestra of this material, appears a hectic and syncopated figure, which can be heard later. Both motifs are then re exposed by the soloists on their own terms before leading to a brief development and recapitulation section. At the end of this movement the tonality of return to minor. Second movement Andante. A horn touch in ascending fourth, with an answer in the wooden instruments, becomes the first four notes of the main theme of the Andante , a broad melody sung by the two soloists in octaves. When the melody ceases, there is an abrupt change of tone that provided pure pleasure and the wooden instruments offer a new and exciting theme, trumpet plays the two notes that mark the

  • 31. What Are The Pros And Cons Of Plea Bargaining Plea bargaining is important in the criminal justice system. It is an essential tool that benefits not only the prosecutor but the defense attorney and the defendant. Plea bargaining allows attorneys to decide cases without needing the judge or a jury to decide the case. It can be beneficial to both the prosecutor and the defense attorney because the prosecutor will have a conviction and the defense attorney would have gained a lesser charge for his client. Throughout this paper I will lead you through the process of plea bargaining, the pros and cons, and how it reflects on crimecontrol and the due process model. Plea Bargaining What is plea bargaining? According to Black s Law Dictionary it is a negotiated agreement between a prosecutor and a criminal defendant whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser offense or to one of multiple charges in exchange for some concession by the prosecutor. This usually involves the defendant pleading guilty to a lighter sentence. If the offer by the prosecution is accepted then the defendant can either plead guilty or nolo contendere which means I do not contest this. Both of the pleas are similar, the only difference is the nolo contendere plea cannot be used as admission of guilt in a civil case (Siegel, Schmalleger, Worrall, Chapter 12, 2011).... Creon s words and actions in Antigone indicate that he has taken on the negative characteristics of king that he describes in his speech in Oedipus the King. He has same amount of power as king, but he now seems to have lost his wisdom and self control. This indicates that perhaps his words to Oedipus are, in fact, mainly an insult to the position of king and to what it evokes from a person s character rather than an insult solely directed towards Oedipus. Creon also feels that the king is generally not responsive to the desires of the citizenry: But if I were the king myself, I must/ do much that went against the grain (36.590 591). By this, Creon means that in his present position, he is more apt than the king to know the will of the people and to respond accordingly. Again, this seems to be a flaw inherent in the kingship based on Creon s actions in Antigone. As king Creon is blind to the fact that the people of Thebes are opposed to his actions concerning the punishment of Antigone.
