τους φτωχούς της Κωνσταντινούπολης .

ισόγειο χρησίμευε για κοτέτσι , στάβλος και αποθήκες ,

Οι μεγαλοκτηματίες που ζούσαν στην επαρχία έμεναν
μακριά από τα χωριά σε πολυτελείς επαύλεις με
εσωτερικούς κήπους και στοές.
15. Οι Βυζαντινοί παρακολουθούν τη μόδα και αγαπούν τα
κοσμήματα.
Οι αστοί φορούν (μακρύ χιτώνα με πολλές πτυχώσεις,
δερμάτινες μπότες τον χειμώνα και ανατολίτικα
παπούτσια το καλοκαίρι).
Οι χωρικοί φορούν στιχάρια (χιτώνες) ,μερικές φορές
χωρίς μανίκια αλλά πάντα ζωσμένα στη μέση. Οι βράκες
είναι μακριές μέχρι τον αστράγαλο και κυκλοφορούν με
παπούτσια ανοιχτά στην φτέρνα ή ξυπόλυτοι.
16. Οι γυναίκες φορούν πάνω από το στιχάριο ιμάτιο
(μανδύα) με μακριά μανίκια που καλύπτει και το
κεφάλι.
Φροντίζουν τα μαλλιά τους με επιμέλεια και
μακιγιάρονται.

Της απόκριες μεταμφίεση και παρέλαση στους δρόμους ενώ με
αφορμή την νέα σελήνη, άναβαν φωτιές και οι νέοι πηδούσαν
πάνω από αυτές. Υπήρχαν και οι ταβέρνες που πρόσφεραν
φαγητό και άφθονο κρασί.
Στην επαρχία ανυπομονούσαν για τις λαϊκές γιορτές που εκεί
συγκεντρώνονταν (μάγοι, αστρολόγοι ,θεραπευτές και
θαυματοποιοί) που τραβούσαν την προσοχή του κόσμου παρά
τις απαγορεύσεις της εκκλησίας.
