Lesson Objective In this lesson, you will learn and understand: The concept of volume The Difference between Cube and Cuboid Finding the Volume of Cube and Cuboid
What is volume? The volume of a solid, cube or cuboid refers to the capacity of the solid or the amount of space inside the solid.
Volume of CUBE = LENGTH X LENGTH X LENGTH = X X = ³ LENGTH LENGTH LENGTH A Cube has 6 square faces. The length of each square face is equal .
The solid shown below is made up of twenty-seven 1-cm cubes. Find the volume of the solid. Method 1 Volume of one 1-cm cube = 1 x 1 x 1 cm ³ = 1 cm ³ Volume of twenty-seven 1 cm cubes = 27 x 1 cm ³ = 27 cm³ The volume of the cube is 27 cm³ Method 2 Volume of cube = 3 x 3 x 3 cm ³ = 27 cm ³ The volume of the cube is 27 cm³ 3 cm 3 cm 3 cm
Example 1 Volume of cube = x x = 5 x 5 x 5 = 125cm ³ 5 cm 5 cm 5 cm Find the volume of the cube.
Example 2 Volume of present = x x = 10 x 10 x 10 = 125cm ³ The present shown on the left is a present given to class 1T1 for winning the Cheer Competition. Find the volume of the present if it is a cube. 10 cm
Volume of CUBOID = LENGTH X BREADTH X HEIGHT = X X C U B O I D A cuboid also has 6 faces but NOT all the faces are equal Length Breadth Height
Example 3 Volume of cuboid = x x = 10 x 4 x 4 = 160cm ³ Find the volume of the cuboid shown below. 10cm 4cm 4cm
Volume of cuboid = x x = 7 x 5 x 15 = 525m ³ Example 4 7m 5m 15m
