CHECK LIST FOR S & T CABLE LAYING IN RAILWAYS REV-00

1. Check and verify the approved cable route plan
2. Check marking at site is done as per cable route plan
3. Check proper permission is obtained before the work commences
4. Check the excavation is done properly with 1 m depth and 0.35m width and trench is straight as far
as possible and steep angle is avoided
5. Check for minimum depth is not less than 300 mm with RCC pipes in Hard murrum
6. Check in rocky soil concreting is done for a depth of 150mm above the cable
7. Check the bottom of the trench is levelled and there should not be any sharp materials
8. Check 10 cm distance is maintained between signal and telecommunication cables
9. Check and ensure no earth is thrown on the ballast
10. Check 75 mm sand bed is provided in the trench above and below the cable
11. Check for good quality country bricks of size 220mmx100mmx60mm ( Check size as per contract)are
placed closely breadthwise without any gap
12. Check minimum distance between signalling cables and OHE mast or switching station earth is 1 m
and cable laid in concrete pipe/ heavy duty HDPE pipe/ split RCC pipe up to 300 m from either edge
of substation / if no protection given the distance is 5 m from station earth
13. Check depth of cable and distance from the OHE mast for 0.5 m depth 1.0 m distance if no protection
and 0.5 m if laid in concrete pipe/ heavy duty HDPE pipes/ Ducts up to 3 m on either side of mast. If
the depth is more than 0.5 m than the distance shall be 3 m.
14. Check cable coil pit size 1.0 mx1.0mx1.0m(depth) in rear of location boxes and 2.0mx2.0mx1.5m in
rear of relay rooms and cable huts. Also check bricks are placed without any gap above the coil and
refilled with earth and consolidated
15. Check In station yard cables are protected by laying in buried RCC duct/DWC HDPE pipe
16. Check cable trench is not less than 5.5 m from the centre of the nearest track on outside station
limits & In station limits, the trenches shall be at a distance of not less than 3 m from the centre of
the track, width of the trench being outside the 3 m distance.
17. Check trench crossing of cables through track / road is done at right angles
18. Check no cable trench crossing is made in between or inside point and crossing
19. Check RCC pipe 150 mm ID/DWC HDPE pipe 175 ID is used in road/track crossing and two numbers
of 2.0 m RCC/DWCHDPE pipe with collar provided in track crossing, similarly RCC pipe with collar
two numbers of 2.0 m for road crossing are provided.
20. Check when cable trench is on the platform sufficient depth and width to accommodate the
additional cables laid. Covering is done with slabs removed or broken or with new slabs or cement
mortar to restore it to original condition.
21. Check the depth and width of trench, quality of bricks, sand & cushion then allow the cable laying
22. Check the insulation resistance values and it should not be less than 500 Mega Ohm per KM at 20
Deg C
23. Check at least 6 to 8 m of cable (coil) provide at either end for main/tail and power cables
24. Check the signal cables are separated from power cables by row of brick (length wise approximately
five bricks per metre) in between them
25. Check order of cables place from nearest track first telecom, second signal, third power also check
No DoT cable or Electrical cable is laid on same trench
26. Check the signalling and power cables are laid close to the track and in block section the distance is
maximum 6 m
27. Check Cable markers made of 1:3:6 concrete as per approved drawing and fixed at an interval of 30
m throughout route, either side of track /road crossing and at diversions.
28. Check and enter the parameter verified such as depth, width distance, length etc in the register, DPR
and site diary

VG check list for S & T cable laying

  • 1. CHECK LIST FOR S & T CABLE LAYING IN RAILWAYS REV-00 1 | P a g e In case of any doubt or corrections please mail to : v.gopal21@gmail.com 1. Check and verify the approved cable route plan 2. Check marking at site is done as per cable route plan 3. Check proper permission is obtained before the work commences 4. Check the excavation is done properly with 1 m depth and 0.35m width and trench is straight as far as possible and steep angle is avoided 5. Check for minimum depth is not less than 300 mm with RCC pipes in Hard murrum 6. Check in rocky soil concreting is done for a depth of 150mm above the cable 7. Check the bottom of the trench is levelled and there should not be any sharp materials 8. Check 10 cm distance is maintained between signal and telecommunication cables 9. Check and ensure no earth is thrown on the ballast 10. Check 75 mm sand bed is provided in the trench above and below the cable 11. Check for good quality country bricks of size 220mmx100mmx60mm ( Check size as per contract)are placed closely breadthwise without any gap 12. Check minimum distance between signalling cables and OHE mast or switching station earth is 1 m and cable laid in concrete pipe/ heavy duty HDPE pipe/ split RCC pipe up to 300 m from either edge of substation / if no protection given the distance is 5 m from station earth 13. Check depth of cable and distance from the OHE mast for 0.5 m depth 1.0 m distance if no protection and 0.5 m if laid in concrete pipe/ heavy duty HDPE pipes/ Ducts up to 3 m on either side of mast. If the depth is more than 0.5 m than the distance shall be 3 m. 14. Check cable coil pit size 1.0 mx1.0mx1.0m(depth) in rear of location boxes and 2.0mx2.0mx1.5m in rear of relay rooms and cable huts. Also check bricks are placed without any gap above the coil and refilled with earth and consolidated 15. Check In station yard cables are protected by laying in buried RCC duct/DWC HDPE pipe 16. Check cable trench is not less than 5.5 m from the centre of the nearest track on outside station limits & In station limits, the trenches shall be at a distance of not less than 3 m from the centre of the track, width of the trench being outside the 3 m distance. 17. Check trench crossing of cables through track / road is done at right angles 18. Check no cable trench crossing is made in between or inside point and crossing 19. Check RCC pipe 150 mm ID/DWC HDPE pipe 175 ID is used in road/track crossing and two numbers of 2.0 m RCC/DWCHDPE pipe with collar provided in track crossing, similarly RCC pipe with collar two numbers of 2.0 m for road crossing are provided. 20. Check when cable trench is on the platform sufficient depth and width to accommodate the additional cables laid. Covering is done with slabs removed or broken or with new slabs or cement mortar to restore it to original condition. 21. Check the depth and width of trench, quality of bricks, sand & cushion then allow the cable laying 22. Check the insulation resistance values and it should not be less than 500 Mega Ohm per KM at 20 Deg C 23. Check at least 6 to 8 m of cable (coil) provide at either end for main/tail and power cables 24. Check the signal cables are separated from power cables by row of brick (length wise approximately five bricks per metre) in between them 25. Check order of cables place from nearest track first telecom, second signal, third power also check No DoT cable or Electrical cable is laid on same trench 26. Check the signalling and power cables are laid close to the track and in block section the distance is maximum 6 m 27. Check Cable markers made of 1:3:6 concrete as per approved drawing and fixed at an interval of 30 m throughout route, either side of track /road crossing and at diversions. 28. Check and enter the parameter verified such as depth, width distance, length etc in the register, DPR and site diary End of check sheet
