Vampire bats live in colonies in caves, hollow trees, and other dark places. They feed solely on blood from animals and occasionally humans. Each colony has one reproducing male and around twenty females. If a bat fails to find food, other bats in the colony will regurgitate blood to share through mouth-to-mouth contact. Vampire bats have adaptations like infrared sensors and anticoagulant saliva that help them locate and feed on blood.
