RESOURCES
INTRODUCTION
We have thousands of plants and animals over the
world out of which about 3 dozen types
constitutes the major food for the humans.
The main food resources include
rice, wheat, pulses, millet, potato, milk, about 20
or so common fruits and vegetables, meat, fish
and seafood.
About half of the agricultural crops rice, wheat and
maize(about 1500 million metric tons) grows each
year.
Meat and milk are mainly consumed by more
developed nations of North America, Europe and
Japan, who consume about 80% of the total.
Fish and seafood contribute about 70 million
metric tons of high quality protein to the world’s
diet.
Meat and dairy products are considered as rich
source of nutrients, hence takes a big portion of
the plate.

HUNGER
Hunger Concepts And Definitions
Hunger is a term which has three meanings:
the uneasy or painful sensation caused by want
of food; craving appetite. Also the exhausted
conditions caused by want of food.
the want or scarcity of food in a country.
a strong desire or craving.
World hunger refers to the
second definition, aggregated to
the world level. The related
technical term (in this case
operationalized in medicine) is
malnutrition.
(Number of hungry people in the world.)

Poverty is the principal cause of hunger.
Harmful economic systems are the principal
cause of poverty and hunger.
Conflict as a cause of hunger and poverty.
Hunger is also a cause of poverty, and thus
of hunger.
Climate change.

An average the minimum calorie intake on a global
scale is 2500 calories per day.
People receiving less than:
- 90% of these minimum dietary calories are called
undernourished.
- 80% of these minimum dietary calories are called
seriously undernourished.
Deficiency and lack of nutrition often leads to
malnutrition resulting in several diseases.
