Fruit bats eat a wide variety of foods including nectar, flowers, and both cultivated and native fruits. They live in various habitats like caves, zoos, mines, old buildings and hollow trees. Fruit bats, also known as flying foxes, can live over 5-10 years on average. While fruit bats have eyes, their vision is not well-suited for nighttime flying. Instead, they use echolocation to navigate by producing short sounds and listening to the echoes. Contrary to popular belief, no bat species is completely blind, though some see better than others.
