This document discusses using online social networks to improve English language learning. It notes that 96% of teenagers use social networks and 81% visit their networks monthly. Some key advantages of using social networks like Ning for language learning include providing always-on communication, exposure to large amounts of input and content, opportunities for creative output and interaction, and low barriers that can lead to self-directed learning. However, there are also limitations to consider, such as ensuring access to receptive and expressive authentic materials and multiple types of communications. Student surveys found that 79% of students enjoyed working on the social network and 89% felt it improved their English language skills.

The importance of learning a foreign languageCallum Landseer
Foreign language is very important to people who have a business. This skill is useful and can be easily honed with the implementation of the concepts of E-learning on any education portal.
This session offers practical techniques for instructors to help their students improve their reading skills. Decoding texts that are culturally specific can be a daunting task for not only second language students, but for all students. By using several popular young adult novels (Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman, The Wave by Todd Strasser, Tunes for Bears to Dance To by Robert Cormier, The Lilies of the Field by William E. Barrett, The Pearl by John Steinbeck, and Anthem by Ayn Rand), the presenter will offer participants practical techniques to use in the classroom such as previewing, the traits of good readers, and vocabulary development. Schema building will be explored through activities aimed at the interaction of the “top down” and “bottom up” approach to comprehending texts. Participants will leave the session with a sample syllabus, some new activities, their current reading rate, and a checklist for better reading. (S. Krahsen, 1982; D.E. Eskey, 2002; J.M. An, H., & Sung, E. (2014, September). The Effects of BAND(Mobile Social Network Service) on the English Writing Abilities and Affective Domains of Korean Elementary School Students. Paper presented at the meeting of KAMALL Annual Conference 2014, Seoul, Korea.
[Abstract]
The use of SNS (Social Network Service) for writing activities has become a
popular contemporary practice. SNS can provide students with flexible time
schedule and allow instructors to send instant feedback. There has been
previous research on English teaching using game applications, words, short
messages, and communication styles (Hui, 2012;Kim, 2013; Park, 2013; Yoon,
2014). However, there has been no study exploring the effects of English
diaries using private SNS. This study investigates the effects of BAND(mobile
SNS)-based English diaries on the writing abilities of Korean elementary school
students, focusing on fluency and accuracy. In addition, this study examines
whether the affective domains (i.e. interest and self-confidence) are also
influenced by BAND-based English diaries.
The subjects of this study were 50 sixth graders from a public elementary
school in the city Kwangju. The students were divided into two groups. An
experimental group consisted of 25 students who kept writing BAND-based
diaries, and a control group was composed of 25 students who kept writing
paper-based diaries. The students in the experimental group didn’t have to be
afraid of writing in public because BAND is a private SNS unlike the other
SNS.
A pre-writing test was administrated before the eight week experiment
began, and a post-writing test was done upon its completion. During the
experiment, both the experimental and control groups kept English diaries
once a week for 8 weeks. The teacher proposed a writing topic for the
English diaries every Monday or students could choose the topic by
themselves. The control group received feedback on paper while the experimental group received feedback through the ‘Band’.
In order to analyze the data in terms of fluency, we contrasted the number
of words and sentences in both pre and post tests. Regarding accuracy,
grammatical errors were counted on pre and post tests and calculated into
percentages. The following graphs show the results of pre and post tests in
regards to the number of words and sentences.
The results revealed that the experimental group showed more progress in
terms of fluency than the control group. The students were often able to
communicate with the teacher and were highly motivated by the instant
feedback they received through BAND. However, there were no significant
differences in accuracy between the two groups. The students in the
experimental group seemed to focus on fluency when they wrote their diaries
and also got more content- based feedback than formal feedback from the
teacher. [....]

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

60. How Topography Affects the Culture of Cleveland
The topography of Cleveland, Ohio has had many effects on the culture
of the people. Since the Cleveland area has many fertile plains, it is a good place
for agriculture. Consequently, farmers in the region raise livestock and grow
corn, wheat, and soybeans in the summer. Thus, Cleveland is known in Ohio as
a very important farming center. Additionally, Lake Erie is a significant
topographical feature. Due to its cool water on a hot summer day, many people
like to spend their free time there swimming. Because there are many types of
large freshwater fish in the lake, people also like to charter boats and go fishing
on weekends. For this reason, going to Lake Erie is a popular place for
Clevelanders. Lastly, as Interstates 77, 80, and 90 are major man-made
topographical features of Cleveland, people can easily move from place to
place. The effect of these superhighways is that the steel industry of Cleveland
has a road network to transport goods across the nation. Therefore, American
citizens all over the United States can receive steel goods produced in Cleveland
factories. In summary, as a result of fertile plains, Lake Erie, and
superhighways, the culture of Cleveland, Ohio has developed in unique ways.
