5. I introduced myself first and they proceeded on asking me
questions, a lot of questions. I did my best to answer all of
them like what sports we play, how cold it is here, what we
do on weekends, what our schools are like, what are homes
are like, and many other things. We had a lot of fun talking
with each other and I LOVE their accent. We ended up
talking for an hour. I told them that I wanted to eventually
go to Australia and they couldn’t figure out why. They also
asked me about what it was like in university and why it was
fun. I told them, and asked them if they were planning on
going to university and they all said no which was very
surprising to me. They said the nearest university was too
far away..3 hours. I found this kind of funny because i know
alot of people who live farther then that away from home. I
live 2 1/2 hours away, but I guess their culture and stuff is
just different. Anyways I found this experience so much fun
and very interesting, it is so much different there than here,
if you ever get the chance to do something like this, i
believe you should definately do it.

23. Look at the beautiful sunset over my backyard. We had a
severe drought this year. Our cows lost a lot of weight
while the drought was on. My dad was awfully busy
trying to keep water and hay up to them. Since the
downpour of rain, they are in much better condition.
We have a mountain in our backyard called Mt Buggery.
It is really a volcanic tumulus and has 2 trees - a
dead pine tree and a young pine tree on top.

Your “backyard” is beautiful! Thank you for
sharing it with the world.

Thank you so much for sharing your
backyard. When we all share like this, it
makes our world just a little smaller and
better.

30. • There are plenty of illegal immigrants in australia
and each day many are sent home. illegal
immigrants tend to have a non valid visa. some
people who come here dont have a visa at all.
Illegal immigrants come from all over the world.
what happens to all of the illegal immigrants
once they have been found out is they get
relocated back to the country they came from.
31. Melissa // Oct 18th 2008 at 2:30 pm
• That is what happens here in the United States as well. Visas are
really a big part of it because visas take a long time to get, and then
people just come illegally. Where are the illegal immigrants that
come to Australia from?
Juliet Pham // Oct 18th 2008 at 5:21 pm
• How do you feel about the fact that the illegal immigrants are
relocated? Do you believe that it’s fair? I don’t think that it is. I
really think that it would depend on the reason. Are the immigrants
doing any harm really? That’s pretty interesting that Australia does
have illegal immigrants because I never thought a place like
Australia would because of the fact that it doesn’t have any
countries near it or any land bridges.

• how do they get there? are they snuck on a plane or something? fur

47. Will Richardson quote on
Learning is Now!
• What a great model for the immediacy of learning that can happen these
days, and the relevance. When you think about all of the things that your
students could learn and practice here, interviewing skills, geography and
geology, information research, retrieval, editing, organization and sharing,
all in the larger context of perhaps assisting those in need who were
thousands of kilometers away. I want to make the point, however, that
it's all grounded in your own understanding of these technologies and the
ways in which they can help us connect. If you didn't have that knowledge
and experience, this probably would not have happened, and that really is
the goal of what we're all trying to do here, get more comfortable in using
these technologies to learn in our own practice. Thanks so much for
sharing this great snippet of learning from your classroom.

64. Request from Ekaterina
• The US Embassy and one of our local libraries
are organising a competition of students
projects under the general title "Russia nad
the USA - Facing Each Other" . One of the
projects category is Climate Change Issue. The
school kids will have to present any kind of
investigation on the Global Warming topic.
65. …..Thus, they will get their own statistics and as
the result they will be able to compare the
average opinion in our local area concerning
Climate Change Issue with the average
opinion from other parts of the world. To be
honest with you, an average Russian person is
not well-informed on this topic. My students
will have to make this conclusion and they will
try to suggest their own ideas how they can
change the situation at least at the level of our
school.
66. A tweet on twitter asked my online contacts to
fill in the survey for the Russian students from
Soglasie school in Western Russia. Many
completed the survey for them – both
teachers and students.
