● Technology to build a virtual computer
(virtual machine - VM), from hardware
layer
● Can run ANY operating system
● Host OS vs Guest OS
○ Guest OS will see the virtual hardware above
is real
● Hypervisor: the software that provides
virtual machine.
○ Type 1: hypervisor is installed directly on
hardware

○ Type 2: hypervisor is installed on operating

1. Net. This file is a handle for the network namespace of the process.
