This document discusses the use of camera techniques in filming a movie trailer. It describes several shots from the trailer and why specific camera techniques were used for each shot. A tripod was used for dialogue scenes to keep the camera still. A tracking shot showed a character leaving and added movement. A handheld camera captured a killer in an unsteady shot to reflect his nature. A tripod kept another dialogue scene focused on the characters. A point-of-view shot followed a torch beam to a killer, achieved by having the actor hold both.

1. Evidence of

2. This was a mid-shot done with a tri-pod. We used a tripod so that the shot
would be still to reflect what we were trying to show and also to keep the
audience focussed on the dialogue between the two characters . Having the
dialogue as the focus was important because there wasn’t much other
dialogue other than the protagonist screaming and pleading with the killer.

3. This was another mid-over the shoulder shot. It was also a tracking shot
which was used to show Alex’s friend Olivia leaving the house. The shots
which are before this one in the trailer don’t consist of any camera moment
as they were done with a tri-pod. We used a tracking shot for this scene to ad
some movement into our trailer to help balance the controlled used of
camera within the trailer as a whole.

4. Here is the shot which introduces the masked killer. This was a very shaky,
handheld camera shot. This was done to reflect the nature of this serial killer
who was just caught in the act after he had slit Olivia’s throat. This is a long
shot of the killer which shows his whole body as well as his weapon of choice
(knife) in his hand. This shot was filmed without a tripod to allow the camera
to move more freely.

5. This shot was filmed with a tripod to make sure that the camera was still and
didn’t distract from the dialogue. As soon as the scary part of the trailer
begins, there is very little dialogue as it is a very action based, and visual set
of shots. In this shot you can hear the protagonist saying “no, please no”
which helps to build suspense. It’s also a high angled shot which makes her
appear vulnerable and weak.

6. This was a point of view shot (we are seeing everything in the eyes of Alex). In
this shot. The camera is following the movement of the torch till it lands on
the killer who the runs forward. This was done by Zoya who held the torch
and camera simultaneously to achieve this point of view effect. The room is
pitch black which makes the spotlight from the torch the main focus of the
shot.
