1. Introduction
Single camera production is shot using a one camera to capture all of the shots. This camera
type is usually used in music videos, sitcoms, prime time dramas and tv advertisements.
Each shot is taken individually because the camera has to be changed positions for every
shot that is taken. The single camera production setup was originally developed during the
1910’s in classicalHollywood films, it has remained a standard production in the film
industry and television.
Multi camera production is when you have multiple cameras filming the same scene all at
once so they can switch to different angles in the same scene. This means the actors only
have to do the scene once or twice as long as they get their lines correct. This is different to
single camera because it takes less time with a multi camera production because you can
shoot everyone at once instead of having the actors repeat the same lines over and over
again with a single camera to get all the shots separate.
Advantages of single camera production
 Fewer cameras are needed which means they don’t have to spend as much money
on cameras
 The camera is easier to movie and is easier portable.
 Smaller crew and less camera operators are required.
 The director will be on set which will allow them to interact with the cast and crew
instead of being in a control room.
 Less space is required when shooting scenes.
Disadvantages of single camera production
 It only captures one part of the scene at a time because they only have one camera
to use so they have to keep changing positions.
 Can be time consuming because they have to keep setting the camera up every time
you want to shoot a new scene.
 Can be repetitive for the actors because they have to keep repeating their lines and

In this scene steady cam is used to track Danny while he rides his bike around the hotel the
camera is at his level the entire scene to make the audience feel worried for the character
and crates an unsettling tone because the audiences do not know what is around every
corner and we find out when he does. The camera moves smoothly through the scene and
allows the camera operator to move around the scene which could not happen if the
camera was on a track. Later in the scene Danny stops and gets off his bike and the camera
is stationary on a tripod which allows the camera to be clean and steady. The camera then
cuts to a low angel looking up showing us what the child is seeing like we are viewing it
through his eyes. Danny becomes out of focus and th3 focus is on the room number. The
shot lingers to the room number to create suspense and make the audiences worried about
that room. The camera then returns to the tripod at the same height as Danny to make it
feel personal and to put the audience in Danny’s shoes. The height of the camera rises with
Danny when he starts to stand up. It creates tension as Danny walks towards the door
because we feel uneasy for him and we know something is behind that door so audiences
are left wondering what is going to happen.

The scene begins with the camera being still on a tripod it starts off at eye level then the
camera tilts up to show the church with the clock being lit up. This creates an eerie effect
because the scene is dark, and the light stands out from the darkness so the contrast
between the two makes the audience think there is something about the location they are
seeing is important and something may be there. They eye level makes it feel like someone
is on the street and is looking up to view the clock. The next scene is on a dolly as it moves
to the right then tilts down to view the gentlemen’s hand opening the box, as he opens the
box the camera is in place the background is out of focus, so the focus is on the box placed
on the table. After this we get some establishing shots of the town Sunnydale and a house
within the city to show people where this is taking place. The next scene that takes place
inside the house, the Steadicam moves towards the bed then tilts up to follow the breath
drifting out of the window, we get a few more of theses scenes until we get to buffy and
willows room where the camera starts by tilts down and has the focus on Willow and once
the camera get to Buffy the focus changes and Willow becomes out of focus and Buffy
because in focus. Once we see the voices of everyone go inside the box and the gentlemen
close it the camera tilts up to expose the gentlemen’s face while the background is out of
focus. We then get a close-up on the clock and then a first-person view as it moves left as if
someone was walking by. The camera is then pointed at the floor while stationary on a
tripod as we see men wearing black float past because they aren’t touching the floor. We

3. then have a tracking shot as from the side as we see the men float down the street this
scene put together with the creepy music stablishes to the audience that people are in
trouble and no one knows they are there because they aren’t trying to hide, they are
walking in the middle of the street. We then get a crane shot so we get to see a view from
just above their heads as they walk past, and the camera slowly starts to rise to show more
of the street as they get further away from the camera. A shot of one house starts with the
camera stationary on a tripod then the camera slowly starts to zoom into the house then
cuts inside the house with the camera tilting up to show two people lying in bed. Then the
camera starts to track the movements of the girl in this scene as she gets out of bed and
goes downstairs. We then cut to a close-up on her face as the camera continues to track
her. As she looks out of the window the person in the back looks blurred and the person
who passes by the window seconds later so you could see him in full focus. After this we
then get a low angle shot as the gentlemen walk past. The camera is then stationary on a
tripod after this as we see the gentlemen walk down the hall and stop outside the room.
Finally, the camera tracks the college student after he gets out of bed and walks towards
the door. Since this episode of and scene had no dialogue audiences had to focus on visual
and sound to realize what is happening in the scene. The score creates tension for the
audience and makes them feel worried in the scene.
