The polar bear is a large carnivorous mammal that inhabits Arctic regions. It has white fur, a stocky body, and can weigh up to 1500 pounds. Polar bears live in areas with sea ice along Canada, Denmark, Norway, and Russia. Their habitat and populations are threatened by climate change as warming temperatures melt sea ice. Loss of sea ice strands polar bears on land and impacts their ability to hunt. Overhunting also contributes to declining polar bear numbers. While efforts aim to better regulate hunting and reduce environmental threats, polar bears remain endangered with their long-term prospects uncertain as the climate crisis worsens Arctic conditions.

2. The Polar Bear
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Ursidae
Genus: Ursus
Species: U. maritimus
3. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
• A boar or an adult male can be up to 770–1,500 lb, A sow or adult female is half that size.
• The polar bear actual fur is an of white as if almost yellow, The bright whiteness of the fur
is only a reflection of the white snow.
• The polar bear has the longest and narrowest necks evolved to fit through holes in the ice
and pull prey out the water.
4. Habitat:
o The Polar Bear is considered a
Marine Animal due to the months at
sea.
o The preferred stomping grounds of
the Polar Bear are the annual sea of
ice ranges.
o Polar Bears are known to occur in
Canada, Denmark, Norway, Russia.
o Along the Arctic
5. Reason of Endangered status
Reasons for the decrease in polar bears
consist of:
• global warming where the affects of
human/natural pollution tears up the
ozone layer melting the ice caps
where the polar bears tend to
resided for most of their life's
leaving them stranded in the ocean.
Polar bears are known to be one of
the first animals endangered by
global warming.
• Another main factor of contributing
to endangering these species are
non-regulated hunting of these
animals.
6. Recovery?
Although these animals are top of their
food chain they are endangered
meaning and not much can be done for
these poor creatures. Daily there are
attempts in creating a better
environment by using more ecofriendly
solutions to daily duties but at the end of
the day the planet is getting just too hot
and as the ice caps melt away so do
polar bears last chance of existence.
For the non-regulated hunting of these
creatures, there have been petitions and
acts to put restricts and more control
over the hunting of these animals but it’s
still affecting the polar bears through
illegal hunting methods.
