October Revolution Problems
Lenin and Problems After the October Revolution
The initial difficulties faced by the new Soviet Union were to severe that its survival seemed almost
miraculous. The remains of the czarist regime left Lenin to face a country wrought with war,
devastated economically.
Russia s involvement in World War I, followed by its Civil War, wide spread famine and a change in
political and social ideology were the problems confronting Lenin after the October Revolution. Lenin
did succeed in ending both the war with Germany and the Civil War for Russia. Yet, the economic and
social aspects of the revolution can be more critically assessed.
Lenin knew the importance of ending Russian involvement in World War I.
On March 3, 1918 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As in the case of the World War, a simple end to the fighting did not signify an end to the devastation
that had been left as a consequence.
The economic and social problems that arose from the end of the czarist regime were dealt with by
Lenin initially unsuccessfully. War communism, a forced socialized economic policy began with the
confiscation of surplus grain.
It then extended to all other products. Abusive detachments fought peasant resistance with the terror of
the Red Army, and in 1919 when they gained control, with the Extraordinary Commission (Cheka).
What Lenin had thought would bring the triumph of communism rendered only misery and disorder.
The Kronstadt
Revolt in February, 1921 is an example of the indignation felt by those that saw the Bolshevik s
policies as too oppressive. Finally, Lenin sees that a transition period is necessary, and denounces war
communism for its impractical severity. Up until this point the disastrous economic and social
problems of the nation were not dealt with successfully.
Both World War I and the Civil War left rampant destruction in Russia s agricultural production.
Drought as well as the failure of war communism led to wide spread famine. At this point Lenin
introduced gradual economic measures that began as agricultural policies. According to British
historian E.H. Carr,
Lenin s New Economic Policy increased from food production to trade, to the

William Carlos Williams The Fish As A Machine Made Of Words
The Fish As a Machine Made Of Words Marianne Moore s use of syllabic verse, enjambment and
imagery in her poem, The Fish , demonstrates William Carlos Williams definition of poetry as A
machine made of words, in an exact, live and eroding portrayal of the sea. Moore s use of enjambment
represents the driving force of a machine that works ceaselessly. The majority of the poetic lines in
each stanza break before the sentences end, obligating the reader to continue on to the next line due to
the incomplete syntax which does not allow for a natural pause. For instance: Of the crow blue mussel
shells, one keeps adjusting the ash heaps; opening and shutting itself like Clearly, the enjambment
takes place not only between

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities
Many students at all levels of education are involved in extracurricular activities they are a core part of
the educational experience. But,are they helpful or harmful to students education. To further look at
this issue my group and I decided to reasearch this topic to find out if there was a correlation between
extracurricular activites and student success. Going into this topic our hypothesis was.If a student
participates in extracurricular activities then the student is more likely to succeed in school.
To gather data we created a survey. This survey included five questions, three strongly agree to strongly
disagree, one yes/no question, and one multiple choice question. We surveyed 44 students both male
and female students grades ninth to eleventh as we felt that in these grades students would be most
involved in extracurricular activities.
The first question on the survey was. Do you participate in extracurricular activities? Which from the
people surveyed was a unanimous yes. This was expected due to the sheer number of people who
participate in extracurricular activities as well as the variety of extracurricular activities.
Question two. How much time a day do you speand participating in extracurricular activites? For this
question in general both males and females from all the grades on average said three to four hours
which was fairly expected as three to four hours is a long amount of time but not long as the other
choice five to six hours or as short as one to two

The Terms Of Return On Investment Essay
Current Situation Overall in terms of return on investment (R.O.I.), market share, and profitability,
Pfizer performed well in 2014. Pfizer generated a 7.01% R.O.I., a 28.3 % return on equity (R.O.E.),
and a 12.78% return on assets (R.O.A.). In the last four years shareholders have witnessed their shares
more than double totaling: 23, 858, 089 shares. And as a matter of fact, in terms of profitability, Pfizer
has generated more revenue than any other pharmaceutical company in the world. Pfizer has a gross
profit margin of 81.42%, an operating profit margin of 29.44%, and a net profit margin of 42.65%
(CSI Market, 2014).
Strategic Posture
Strategic posture is an approach company leaders take in applying a business s strengths to the current
and long term needs of the marketplace. Formulating a strategic posture is part of the broader strategic
planning process, when managers collaborate to develop the vision, goals and strategies for a business
in the foreseeable future. By recognizing the nature of a strategic posture, one can lead their company
more effectively (Kokemuller, n.d.).
Pfizer s mission is to, be the premier innovative biopharmaceutical company. Some of the objectives
Pfizer aims to accomplish include: developing new therapies for inflammation and immunology,
cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, neuroscience and pain treatments. The corporations current
strategy is dependent upon: innovation, value maximization, social respect, and cultural ownership.

Light Pollution, And The Effects Of Light Pollution
A new study illustrates that light pollution has increased to such an extent all over the world that both
human beings and other animals are negatively affected by it. The study marks the first observation of
satellite images to ever be designed specifically for detecting particular types of artificial lights. A
petition was also started recently via Change.Org outlining three main ways light pollution impinges
upon the health of humans and birds while also brightening the night sky. For human health, the
biggest issue is it messes with circadian rhythms, according to Laura Stepney, who started the petition.
You can get black out curtains but you shouldn t have to. The city should be considering that from the
beginning with the design, instead of people having to react and protect themselves. She cites a study
that found residents of metropolitan areas lose considerable hours of sleep due to going to bed later
and waking earlier. A more recent study published in the peer reviewed journal, Science Advances,
used satellite data to illustrate that Earth s night is gradually brightening. It also showed that
artificially lit outdoor surfaces have become 2.2 percent more common on average each year since
2012. Pundits argue that this is particularly problematic because these nighttime lights not only disrupt
circadian rhythms but also increase risks of depression, diabetes and cancer. In the course of
migrating, both sea turtles and birds are disoriented by nighttime lights, and insects are attracted to
them, which often leads them to their death. These lights are predominately LED lights, which have
become increasingly popular over the course of the last couple decades primarily based on the
marketing promise of energy conservation. LED lights are not inherently problematic in and of
themselves according to German Research Center for Geosciences physicist Chris Kyba. He says the
problem is the sheer number of lights that people are collectively installing. We ll light something that
we didn t light before, like a bicycle path through a park or a section of highway leading outside of
town in the past wasn t lit, Kyba explains as an example. And so all of those new uses of light offset,
to some extent,

Optimum Fuel Choice to Ensure Power Supply
Energy security is a varied and complex concept that relates to import dependency, energy prices, the
capacity and integrity of the supply and distribution infrastructure, fuel diversity and environmental
concerns. After evaluating the advantages, disadvantages and policy requirements of the three energy
sources (gas, coal and nuclear) we have made the conclusion that encompasses the security of supply
issue for Ireland, UK and France, for their future fuel sustainability. Introduction This paper
investigates the optimum fuel choice to ensure security of supply. In this case we will be closely
looking at Ireland, UK and France, and analysing nuclear, coal and gas as our fuel sources. The
different situations we will be examining will include their advantages and disadvantages, their effect
on the climate, the possible effect they will have on future electricity prices and the policy that will
accompany them. We will compare each energy source with the other, and conclude which fuel source
has shown it to be the leader in the security of supply scenario. We will begin with the analysis of gas
a fuel source to ensure security of supply in Ireland, and thus incorporating UK and France in our
trends and estimations. Gas Security of supply is a worldwide issue, with recent developments
between Ukraine and Russia concerns about the security of our fuel are high. We are aware that gas
could be cut off at any point, effecting a large portion of Europe (22% of EU gas imports are

The Use Of Force By William Eryone

Then other people think that they are hurting their kids. In this short story The Use Of Force by
william carlos william the theme is whether it is justifiable for medical professions to use force with
their patients. In the 19th century if you were human being of adult years you could do whatever you
wanted with your own body. in this article Voluntary Euthanasia and the Common Law says every
human being of adult years and sound mind has a right to determine what shall be done with his own

the reason he use force is because the patient doesn t want them to find out what she is sick of. That

Wrestlemania Research Paper
Welcome to Wrestlemania! An introduction that has been around for three decades. Considered the
grandest stage of them all in the professional wrestling industry this show has been a staple mark for
World Wrestling Entertainment. It what was billed as the biggest professional wrestling event the
world has seen and the show certainly delivered. Setting a new WWE attendance record of 101,763
hardcore wrestling fans.
The show s card featured twelve matches of the best that WWE has to offer. This show catered greatly
to not only the older wrestling fans but the newer generation of fans as well. With the nostalgic return
of The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin it was almost like the 90 s Attitude Era had returned, even if
only for a few short minutes.
Several superstars pushed the butterflies in their stomachs aside and made their Wrestlemania debut.

Do you ever get that preconceived look from others? When they judged you by your facial expression
or your race. Do people constantly question what you think you are because you share aspects of
different cultures but they do not notice their own? When people look at me they see a stereotypical
black girl they assume you know all of the latest dances and slang. When you talk people
automatically assume that you do not know the basics of grammar but they soon find out that you do
just in time for them to tell you that you talk like a white person. My cultural identity is not one of a

Essay about Symbolism in “The Story of an Hour”
The symbols and imagery used by Kate Chopin s in The Story of an Hour give the reader a sense of
Mrs. Mallard s new life appearing before her through her view of an open window (para. 4). Louise
Mallard experiences what most individuals long for throughout their lives; freedom and happiness. By
spending an hour in a comfortable, roomy armchair (para.4) in front of an open window, she
undergoes a transformation that makes her understand the importance of her freedom. The author s use
of Spring time imagery also creates a sense of renewal that captures the author s idea that Mrs.
Mallard was set free after the news of her husband s death.

Immediately after the news of her husband s death, Mrs. Mallard races upstairs into her room where
she settles into a comfortable, roomy armchair (para.4). The armchair symbolizes the rest from the
oppressive life she had and freedom from society s expectations. Since it was tradition for women to
be married by a certain age, Louise Mallard must have obligated to marry Brently. Sitting in the
armchair, she gazes out of the window and starts indulges in deep thought, which establishes her as an
intelligent individual.
The open window from which Louise gazes is symbolic for her freedom and the good fortune that she
is now presented with. Her attention to the blue sky, fluffy clouds, tree tops and the delicious breath of
rain denote her newly found inner well being. The writer s use of language is well chosen as it
explicitly portrays Mrs. Mallard s true feelings. By capturing all the senses, the imagery created
represents Louise s new life and establishes her as a round character. The open window provides a
clear and bright view into the distance of Louise s own bright future, which was obstructed by the
demands of her husband.
As Mrs. Mallard left the room, there was a feverish triumph in her eyes, and she carried herself
unwittingly like a goddess of Victory (para.19). The goddess of victory (para.19) embodies Louise s

Empowerment in an Organization
Empowerment in an organization Empowerments is the process of enabling or authorizing an
individual to think, behave, take action, and control work and decision making in autonomous ways. It
is the state of feeling self empowered to take control of one s own destiny. In an organization,
empowerment is the redistribution of power and decision making responsibilities, usually to
employees, where such authority was previously a management prerogative. Empowerment is based
on the recognition that employee abilities are frequently underused, and that, given the chance, most
employees can contribute more. Empowered workplaces are characterized by managers who focus on

Essay on Hero and Beatrice Vs. Women During the...
In William Shakespeare s play Much Ado about Nothing there are sharp contrasts between Hero and
Beatrice in comparison to women during the Shakespearean period. Hero is the typical example of a
woman during the Shakespearean period. Hero is depicted in the play as a morally upright woman of
good keep, and she seem to be a very loving and warm person in comparison to her cousin Beatrice.
However she is made out to be a whore by Claudio at her own expense on her wedding day. Beatrice
is the heroine of the play; she possesses a quick wit and a quick tongue. Beatrice does have the same
warm and loving personality as her cousin however she constantly starts merry war or make fun of

When Claudio maltreats Hero on her wedding day Beatrice says that, O that I was a man for his sake!
Or that I had any friend would be a man for my sake! I cannot be a man with wishing; therefore I will
die a woman with grieving (IV.i.312 318).
At a time in the play Much ado about Nothing Claudio refers to Hero as a jewel. With this description
of Hero as a jewel it can be thought that Shakespeare is using Claudio to convey to the audience the
beauty of Hero. Shakespeare could also be explaining the way in which men own women and the way
that women are property in the eyes of Shakespearean men. Beatrice clearly does not wish to be
owned or considered property and worth of a woman. As it pertains to worth in regards to Hero,
marrying Claudio can advance her father s Leonato business endeavors. Marrying Claudio could be
seen as marrying a financial, stable, secure future for Leonato and for Hero.
The climax of the play is when the wedding ceremony is aborted and Hero is shamed and she is
accused of disloyalty to Claudio. During the Shakespearean period women that were accused of
unfaithfulness before marriage would lose social standing, a standing that could never be improved.
This damaged social standing could ruin an entire family, therefore when Leonato buys into the fact
that Hero was disloyal to Claudio he attempts to dismiss her totally

Social Disorganization Theory And Cultural Deviance Theory
As criminologist continue research on the sociological theories as it relates to the social structure,
social process and the impact of social life. There is still room to compare and contrast the social
structure theories that include social disorganization theory, strain theories and cultural deviance
theory. The social disorganization theory was first referenced with the displacement among
immigrants. Scholars believed this was due to the immigrants inability to transfer norms and values
from their first homes in the old country to the new culture. It was the ideology and values along with
the competition for dominance of the concepts and beliefs that became the foundation for the

The concept was known as defensible space. It was at a conference where police officers,
criminologists, and architects met and discussed crime concerns specifically in public housing which
progressed into changes in design that will enhance barriers, clarify boundaries and reduce the chances
for criminals to decrease the risk of crime in the nucleus of high crime neighborhoods. In the social
structure theory the strain principle is addressed. It deals with the pressure that individuals encounter
when attempting to reach socially determined goals (Schmalleger, 2012). In the field of criminology
the strain theory is associated with resulting to deviant behavior as a way to solve the frustrations of
social environment. The term anomie was used by Robert Merton in the strain theory as the condition
and single encounter when the means to achieve goals are limited to particular groups. However
anomie was first introduced by Emile Durkheim in 1897. Durkheim associated the term anomie and
normlessness or deregulation which progresses to deviant behavior, because of decreased proper
control over actions. These practices cause people to struggle with their position in society and
making adjustments to life (Schmalleger, 2012). Merton expounded on the anomie concept where

Binge watching is a popular term to describe how consumers interact with the service (Jenner, 2016).
This is due to how Netflix has differentiated itself from its competitors, especially early on. Netflix
was at the forefront of internet content streaming. The service allows viewers to watch high quality
content whenever and wherever they want. This was a huge change from before when consumers had
to subscribe to content channels such as HBO or Showtime through their cable provider and wait for a
show they like to come on. Netflix s competitors are Hulu and Amazon Prime, but Netflix is the clear
leader in the content streaming market. The iPhone 7+ targets its market by offering a top of the line
smart phone that is equipped with an efficient operating system. Their main competitor in the market
is Samsung. Apple has not done much in recent years to compete with Samsung, even purchasing
Samsung displays for their upcoming iPhone 8. However, in comparison to other competitors, the
iPhone 7+ positions itself by offering one of the best cameras, stereo quality speakers, and an HD
display. Edushape s Marublous Marble Run is more of a niche product. The product s overall design is

in its positioning. The marble run competes with many other building toys such as Legos. The toy

The Properties of Hydrostatics
Three containers are filled with water to the same height and have the same surface area at the base:
hence the water pressure and total force on the base of each is the same. Yet the total weight of the

The key to this problem is that the force on a container due to the hydrostatic pressure is always
perpendicular to the surface of the water. According to Newton s 3rd law, the container will push back
on the water in the exact opposite direction, also perpendicular to the surface of the container

Will an empty balloon have precisely the same apparent weight on a scale as a balloon filled with air?
Explain.
If air is incompressible, then yes.The full balloon will have more weight (more downward force), due
to the mass of the air in the balloon. The full balloon will also have an upward buoyant force on it,
equal to the weight of the air displaced by the balloon. Since the balloon is both containing air and
floating in air, the weight of the air inside the balloon is the same magnitude as the buoyant force.
Filled balloon has a higher apparent density compared to empty balloon.
IF you dangle 2 pieces of paper vertically a few inches apart and blow between then, how do you
think the papers will move?
The papers will move toward each other. Bernoulli s principle says that as the speed of the gas flow
increases, the pressure decreases (when there is no appreciable change in height). So as the air passes
between the papers, the air pressure between the papers is lowered. The air pressure on the outside of
the papers is then greater than that between the papers, and so the papers are pushed together.
Children are told to avoid standing too close to a rapidly moving train because they might get sucked

It is possible. Due to viscosity, some of the air near the train will be pulled along at a speed
approximately that of the train. By Bernoulli s principle, that air will be at a lower pressure than air

RNA sequencing is inspiring scientists to push the limits of current research methods in understanding
how the transcriptome shapes biology and much more. RNA sequencing is becoming one of the most

Wider Dynamic Range and Higher Sensitivity
Microarray measure continuous probe intensities. But RNA Seq quantifies individual sequence reads
aligned to a reference sequence which produces discreet (digital) read counts2. Also, by increasing or
decreasing the number of sequencing reads (coverage level or coverage depth), researchers can fine
tune the sensitivity of an experiment to accommodate different study objectives. The digital nature of
this process and the ability to control coverage levels supports an extremely broad dynamic range,
with absolute rather than relative expression values2 4.
Assuming 10 50 million mapped reads, the dynamic range of RNA Seq spans 5 orders of magnitude (
105) and is typically several orders of magnitude higher than most array technologies (103)2,5. As a
result, RNA Seq has been shown to detect a higher percentage of differentially expressed genes
compared to expression arrays, especially genes with low abundance5,6.

The Impact Of The Modern American Home On The Environment
The kitchen is one of the most important rooms of the entire house. Compared to other rooms, it
typically has a great deal more built in. Remodeling it is one of the most expensive things you can do
to a house. It also has substantial impact on the environment.
Why does it have so much impact on the environment? Because it is a work horse of a room. It uses a
lot of energy and water to keep everyone fed. A refrigerator is one of the bigger contributors to
electrical usage in your typical home, in part because you can t turn it off. It needs to be on 24/7.
Doing this room right is one of the better ways to make sure the home is eco friendly. A large part of
that is choosing the right appliances.

Analysis Of The Film The Prince Of Egypt
The Film, The Prince of Egypt is a not a very accurate copy when compared to the story of exodus
from the Bible. The 1998 Dreamworks production The Prince of Egypt was created to follow the
remarkable story of Moses, Leading his people from slavery but was changed by the directors to give
it some originality. The setting, the characters and the storylines are some of the things that have been
changed in the animated story. Therefore the Dreamworks Pictures film is inaccurate and does not
flow along the same page as the Biblical story of Exodus.
Firstly, when compared, The settings In the Dreamworks production differ from the ones in the
Biblical account. The directors have made this change to add some excitement to some of the settings.
The way how the Nile has been portrayed in the movie, Vary from the Bible because the Bible tells us
that Moses had been placed in a basket among some reeds, But in the movie, Moses gets placed in the
basket and the Nile takes him away. He just misses all kinds of dangers, From hippos and crocodiles
to the Egyptian fishing nets. The reason the director did this massive change was to make the scene
more exciting and to capture the audience. The Burning bush s description is different in the Bible
than how it is portrayed in the movie. In the Bible, the burning bush is on top of a mountain called
Horeb but In the movie it is in a cave where God calls to him. The director did this because he wanted
to make the scene more scary and

Social Psychologist Philip Zimbardo s Prison Experiment...
When we see people doing bad things we assume it is because they are bad people. Social
Psychologist Philip Zimbardo would argue that this isn t true. In April 2004 disturbing and graphic
pictures surfaced, showing American soldiers mentally and physically abusing Iraqi prisoners held at
the Abu Ghraib prison located in Bagdad. Looking at the photos that was surfaced, it looks strikingly
familiar to those in the Stanford prison experiment that was done many years ago. The prisoners had
bags over their heads and were subjected to all kinds of sexual and inhumane humiliation. The
military went on the defence saying those officers were a few bad apples. To understand why the
military soldiers at the Abu Grahib prison abused the Iraqi prisoners, we need to look back at the
lessons of Philip Zimbardo s prison experiment and Stanley Milgram s Obedience to Authority
experiment. The results of these experiments showed that there are a set of social psychological
factors that can make ordinary people do things they could have never imagined doing. It shows how
people respond when placed in cruel environments without clear rules, do bad things. I will look at
Zimbardo s case of Good apples in bad barrels. And I will try to understand what lead to the abuses
that occurred within the walls of Abu Ghraib. Philip Zimbardo made it evident that in his analysis it
was the military command and the Bush Administration that created the evil system that created the

Driverless Car Ethical Dilemmas
Autonomous vehicles are on the verge of drastically changing transportation. They potentially can
save millions of dollars in damages and fuel efficiency as well as countless lives. However, the
development of driverless cars pose serious ethical problems for software engineers. For instance, the
millions of people who earn their living driving trucks or cabs would lose their jobs as they get
replaced by computer programs. Another issue is transparency because the driving software needs to
be very high quality to increase safety. Company designers and researchers tend to work secretly, so
others can t steal their progress but this close mindedness closes off extra ideas and criticism. Finally,
the need for safe code delves into morality. An autonomous car will have to make life and death ...

Companies work very hard to keep their code from the public to protect their ideas but this also
protects any accidental or faulty code from the public. For example, Volkswagen designed its vehicles
to produce lower emissions when being tested, but during regular driving, vehicles produced more
emissions. This was discovered when people measured the emissions from the tail pipe without
hooking it up to a computer. This kind of conspiracy would never have worked if companies had to
disclose their data. Another benefit could be greater detection of bugs. The runaway cars of Toyota
may have been caused by erroneous code, and widespread access to it may have helped identify the
error if there was one. Of course companies shouldn t fully disclose their information, but their
engineers and researchers should strive for greater collaboration between companies and universities.

Advertising Affects A Wide Variety
Advertising is a concept all Americans have been exposed to in their lives. It is a normal component of
life that affects Americans more than they are led to believe. Advertising is constantly evolving.

Advertising affects a wide variety and a large amount of people. According to The Statistics Portal,
The United States is, by far, the largest advertising market in the world. In 2015, more than 180 billion

Medical Billers And Coders Essay
Medical billers and coders must pay attention to detail. Medical billers and coders should have an
understanding of anatomy and physiology in order to interpret medical reports written by healthcare
providers. Having knowledge of how the body s systems work and the principles of physiology will
aid medical billers and coders to correctly code provider services and it will also enable them
effectively communicate with the provider in obtaining additional medical documentation when
needed. (Holley, 2012, p. 1). The understanding of anatomy and physiology also gives medical billers

procedures and services specifically used to treat certain parts of the body. The understanding of
medical reports will impact medical billers and coders ability to code accurate and timely claims for

Frankenstein s monster is an eight foot tall, malformed human child. The monster has the mind of a
child in an eight foot body, green with a nail in his head, Frankenstein s monster is mentally a child,

Frankenstein s role as father is intensified by that fulfillment of every parent s dream: he can
deliberately, knowingly create his child; he can choose the parts. It is especially ironic, then, that he
hates what he sees. Victor produces such a grotesque model for his procreation in part as a response to

Mr. Palomar By Italo Calvino
Mr. Palomar exhibits a unique interesting character throughout the entire book Mr. Palomar by Italo
Calvino. The odd slipper (Page 99 101), specifically addresses a lot of Mr. Palomar s perspectives on
simple topics, it clearly shows that Mr. Palomar is a deep thinker and it conveys his habit of over
complicating matters that are supposed to be simple, it is effective in highlighting the image that Mr.
Palomar is a character who tends to isolate himself from the world by questioning it and examining
every aspect of our being and stance in society.
The odd slipper (Page 99) is about Mr. Palomar receiving a mismatched shoe while shopping in
Bazaar. This passage displays the sudden division of Mr. Palomar s seemingly strong perspective into
two different, opposing viewpoints. One is that at first, Mr. Palomar believed that by purchasing a
mismatched shoe, he had started a chain of events that would cause consequences in the future:
centuries can go by before the consequences of this mistake affect another visitor to that ancient
bazaar. Every process of disintegration in the order of the world is irreversible; the effects, however,
are hidden and delayed by the dust cloud of the big numbers, which contains virtually limitless
possibilities of new symmetries, combinations, pairings. (Page 100)
By saying this, Mr. Palomar means that any changes in the world that bring about disorder are
irreversible, but their consequences may actually be hidden until the very end.

The Souk Al-Manakh Stock Market Crash
Introduction
In August of 1982, an informal Kuwait stock market known as Souk al Manakh collapsed (Rasmaroni,
2006). This happened when a female speculator presented a post dated check for payment and it
bounced ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). This relatively small destabilising factor caused enormous losses, and
the financial system was nearly crippled with some $92 billion (Rasmaroni, 2006) from about 6,000
investors ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). Is this event the only factor that caused the crash? And what made
the crash so huge? To reveal the answer we have to dig deeper into history.

With only about half of the Souk al Manakh companies even publishing annual reports, most of these
companies were little more than shell games with very little in the way of assets, let alone earnings.
Company fundamentals mattered very little, however, to traders who regularly saw these same stocks
rising 20 to 50 percent a month. Eventually, the securities of fifty four real and fictitious off shore
companies were traded on the Souk al Manakh with no relation to company performances or
prospects. Most of these companies had been founded as recently as 1979 or 1980 ( Kuwait s Souk ,
n.d.).
Adding fuel to the fire was the type of informal margin financing through the use of post dated checks.
They were accepted as a cash equivalent. This type of personal credit didn t require a bank balance. (
Kuwait s Souk , n.d.) The Kuwaiti culture mandated that payment should be made, else you would
have violated the tradition of trust and caused a loss of face upon the entire family. This caused a big
amount of speculative capital letting the Kuwaiti stocks skyrocket. The shares increased by an average
of 63% in 1981 ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). Not all transactions were made using post dated checks. At

and are both different, one difference being their subject. In this essay
I will compare the two poems, focusing on form, and how language helps to build up subject matter.

These adjectives create an understanding of what life is like for Ulysses, and this is then contrasted
with words of his past such as roaming ,
ringing and windy . These words create a contrast between the activeness of the past, and the stillness
of the present. This helps the reader imagine what life was like for the character when he was young.
The words associated with the past are positive, whereas the words associated with the present are
negative, helping the reader to understand how Ulysses feels about the present. Line 2o Gleams that
untravelled world whose margin fades shows how Ulysses believes that he still can go out and do
things, as no matter how much he has done, he cannot have done everything. This line is important, as
Gleams leaves the reader with the impression that it is almost tempting to
Ulysses to go and live like he did in the past.
In My Last Duchess , Browning allows the reader to understand the
Duke through what he is saying and what he is doing. The first two lines introduce us to the main
topic of the Duke s speech which is a painting of his last wife. The lines: That s my last Duchess
painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive hint to us that the duchess is not alive anymore, but
Browning has made us unsure, and therefore invites us to read more into the poem. Browning engages

Psalm 23 Personal Narrative
Today made it 4 months, 4 weeks and 6 hours since we got off the helicopter and landed in this desert.
I was more of a newbie who just got off the parade squad and was handed a rifle and some piece of

Sean: Hey newbie! He calls me that when he is either drunk or wants to get me mad. Well, tonight he

Why Charles Johnson Is Not An Indefatigable Investigator,...
You WOULD NOT want Charles Johnson to look into your background, not if you had anything to
hide. He is an indefatigable investigator, who, at the campus conservative magazine, the Claremont
Independent and at his own rollicking blog for four years kept Claremont McKenna College buzzing
with revelations about affirmative action, politically tendentious speakers, and abuses in student
government. He held college administrators feet to the fire, and they got singed. It was easier to
condemn than to refute him, and his critics soon gave up on the latter. Outside CMC, more
disinterested judges quickly discovered the boldness of his reporting and commentary. Soon he had
been awarded virtually every prize a young journalist of conservative disposition could receive: the
Robert L. Bartley Fellowship at the Wall Street Journal, the Eric Breindel Award, the Robert Novak
Award from the Phillips Foundation, and a Publius Fellowship at the Claremont Institute. Hitting the
trifecta is hard, but what Charles achieved is so remarkable as to be nameless: hitting what, the
quadrifecta?
While leading his very public life as a student journalist, Charles pursued, more quietly but just as
intrepidly, the study of politics. His senior thesis, a precocious work of political biography, became the
starting point for the book (his first) you are now reading. Why Coolidge Matters marks the
appearance of a major new conservative talent and the reappearance of a major old one.

My Observation Of My Preschool Observation
The purpose of my Preschool Observation is to observe the behavior of a three year old toddler in a
head start school setting. The child s name is Adam Johnson, he is three years old, I do not know the
child. I knew that if I did not know the child it would be a better observation. My purpose is to
objectively observe the two year old toddler without bias responses of my observation in full
descriptive details. My observation of the three year old preschool is to explain the domains of
development and how these domains intersect with one another as the child grows. There are six
developmental domains in early childhood development; which are physical, language, aesthetic,
cognitive, emotional, and social domains.
I chose a group of preschool children that ages range from three to five. I chose a little boy named
Adam who is the age of three years old. Adam attends head start, which he has attended the school
since six months of age. The observation takes place in the classroom; which also has a playroom

The Purpose Of This Work Is To Explore Machiavelli’S...
The purpose of this work is to explore Machiavelli s political philosophy through the lens of discord.
In terms of discord, Machiavelli presents the two main rivals, who are the nobles and the people. He
sees the two different humors of the nobles and the people as the cause of discord. He observes that
conflicts caused by the two diverse humors create salutary effects. His praise of tumults has inspired
scholars not only to relate the notion of humors to the discussion of political freedom, but also to find
the origin of the Modern Republicanism in his political philosophy. Focusing on the irrational cause of
humors, however, existing studies have slightly overlooked rational causes such as idea or reason or
knowledge of political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also plays an important role in transforming detrimental results of discord to its salutary results. In
this dissertation, I will categorize the one man s characteristics into three features: tyrannical, prudent,
and deceitful. I will also illustrate how the one man manages discord, and even controls it having with
his three characteristics. The last question is associated with the relationship between discord and
regime. Conflicts take an important role in the creation of regime, its decline, and its extinction.
Presenting the connection between discord and regime, this work also explores the regime types for
which Machiavelli designs. In his preference of the republican regime, I will present the distinctive
features of Machiavelli s regime, which are tumultuous, rejuvenated, the presence of the one man.
Based on that, I will conclude that the presence of the one man is crucial in terms of Machiavelli s
regime. In the discussion of discord, there are two main contenders of the nobles and the people
defined. The one man is invisible in conflicts. However, his role is critical in conflicts between them.
Like an invisible hand, he involves in competitive relationship between them by affecting the outbreak
of tumults, its intensity, and its settlement. He also plays an invisible, but important role in making

Prism In Heroes At War
The personal prism gives the people of the present an insight into, as stated by Edward Rothstein, the
deeply personal experience of the war of those who were in the war or impacted by the war regardless
of whether the effect was direct or indirect. The Visceral Reality is great for allowing people a look at
how different people were personally affected in a given time. As there were a lot of participants of
many different occupations, there exists many pieces of literature , memoirs, art, and pictures that
depict the personal experience of the war and, as Rothstein states, much of the knowledge and
perspectives we have of the war front and the experience of being in the trenches comes from the
individuals that participated in the war. A pitfall that lies within the personal prism perspective is that

The Language of the Olden Days The writings back then may be a bit confusing to read nowadays, but
it can deliver a message in a meaningful way. Dekanawida and Jonathan Edwards both used figurative
language to relay important messages to their people. They may have been about different subjects but
they used figurative in the same ways and also in different ways. One of them is a bit darker message,
Jonathan Edwards, while Dekanawida s was a more positive message about their united tribes. They
both used figurative language a lot in their documents expressing their feelings about their opinions.
So that, thus it is that a natural men are held in the hand of God, over the pit of hell; they have
deserved the fiery pit, and are already sentenced to it... (Edwards, 46). That is just the first sentence in
Jonathan Edwards writing showing how he believes how God see s man in the beginning. Five arrows
shall be bound together very strong and each arrow shall represent one nation. (Dekanawida, 110)
Dekanawida shows his belief in what the arrows will represent in the Tree of the Great Place. Each
man uses figurative language to represent what he believes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Under the shade of this Tree of the Great Peace we spread the soft white feathery down of the globe
thistle as seats for you. (Dekanawida, 109) Dekanawida used figurative to strengthen his message of
peace to his people, while on the other hand, Jonathan Edwards used it negatively to show that many
people were doomed and going to Hell. Your wickedness makes you as it were heavy as lead, and to
tend downward with great weight and pressure toward hell. (Edwards, 47). Edwards used figurative
language to deliver his message in a much darker and deeper way than Dekanawida sending a positive
message to his

Royal Caribbean Cruise-Personal Narrative
Vacation is something many people love and look forward to. The ability to put our daily tasks on hold
for a short amount of time in order to clear our minds and reinvigorate ourselves is something that all
people need from time to time. In fact, we all seem to have those times in our life were we get a week
or two off to have the time of our lives. One particular experience that I had impacted me in two
primary ways. This experience was when I took a Royal Caribbean Cruise in the Gulf of Mexico.
Strangely enough, this experience impacted me in two completely opposite, and nearly paradoxical,
ways. Truthfully, what I took away from my Royal Caribbean Cruise would be considered by many to
be the opposite of what they would expect. It was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After everyone was loaded, we were off on our little tram that would, theoretically, take us to the
beach. As we started to put some distance between the tourist trap, and ourselves we finally caught a
glimpse of the beach that we were to spend our day at. However, as we drew closer to the beach, we
noticed another flock of salesmen who were, like the ones in the tourist trap, very happy to see us. Our
tram, nowhere near fast enough to outrun these ambitious salesmen, was littered by these locals with
crude, homemade leaflets advertising local restaurants and was badgered to buy everything from straw

Ain T Hard To Tell Poem Analysis
1. It Ain t Hard to Tell by Nas is most useful than the other lyrics. My poetry s deep, I never fail Nas
raps should be locked in a cell, it ain t hard to tell the underlined words are an example of how Nas
used internal rhyme. I freak beats which is a metaphor because Nas used the word freak to mean
something else for a dramatic effect. Packing like a Rasta in a weed spot is cultural nationalism.
Numerous people know that Ratas are known for smoking weed. 2. Internal rhyming allows for the
rapper lyrics to flow and come out with ease/smoothness. Cultural Nationalism is important because
the rapper has to reach the audience that they are targeting. When the audience hears the lyrics they
can relate culturally what the artist is saying.

Children Effective Communication
Communication is effective when what is trying to be conveyed is understood by the recipient quickly
and easily. Effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with everyone at
any age and in any setting; how this is achieved varies but its value remains the same. Every
relationship begins with communication whether it be written or verbal if it is positive it starts the
relationship off positively and enables both parties to be happy to develop that relationship.
With children effective communication by way of showing them that you are interested in what they
have to say, getting down to their level and using appropriate language shows them that they are
valued. This feeling of value raises the child self worth

Recent Changes in the Print Industry
The print industry in our society has always served as a pillar in providing mass media to society. Print
industry can trace its root back to the ancient Egyptians, China, and Europe in the first 10 centuries.
Not until the mid 1400 s did the print industry reach a pivotal transformation, which was the printing
press by Johannes Gutenberg. This allowed for faster mass production of printed materials such as the
Bible for instance. Century after century this industry evolved into a worldwide business for providing
information to the masses. In our society today, the Internet is our main source for business,
communication, getting information, etc. The Internet has evolved since first being introduced into
something everyone in a sense needs, since it can help with our lives. The print industry is currently
co existing with the Internet and digital technology industries, and the print industry has struggled and
has been forced to adapt. Our society is moving faster and getting information faster due to the
Internet and digital technology. The print industry cannot keep up with the digital age in regards to
providing information. It s that digital has surpassed print. It has many advantages and with
technology constantly growing there will be more. Characteristics of digital include: ubiquity, speed,
permanence, search ability, the ability to update, the ability to remix, targeting, interaction, marketing
via links, and data feedback. Digital transcends the limitations of print

Fdi Of Foreign Investment Law Essay
FDI Institutional Change in Indonesia
The strong growth of total global FDI has increased the need of FDI as a source of external financing
to contribute in host country s economic development. This condition encourages many countries to
perform institutional reform in order to attract larger shares of FDI flows. From the perspective of
investors, they are more concern on the host country s institutional quality when determining their
investment location (Ali et al 2010). Therefore, institutions are essential determinant of host country s
locational advantage to entice FDI (Bevan et al 2004).
Capital account liberalization process in Indonesia started under Soeharto s New Order presidency
which was remarked by the introduction of Foreign Investment Law in 1967. Prior the issuance of this
law, under President Soekarno regime (1945 1967), the government initiated self sufficiency policy
and Indonesia was administered as a socialist economy. In Soekarno era, investors from western
countries were strictly restricted to invest in Indonesia (Fitriandi et al 2014, p.81). As a consequence,
Indonesia was not an attractive place for foreign investors (Lindblad 2015, p.221). The absence of rule
of law concerning foreign direct investment in the period of 1945 1967 has made investment
environment in Indonesia became uncertain and had high business risks which were unfavourable for
businesses. The business parties were became unconfident and faced uncertain and unpredictable of

A Brief Note On Dan River Coal Ash Spill
Dan River Coal Ash Spill
On Sunday, February 2, 2014 on a cold day, a water pipe exploded under a coal ash impoundment at
Duke Energy s Dan River Power Station near Eden, North Carolina. This problem caused a lot of
commotion throughout the community, and to make matters worse, Duke Energy didn t announce this
incident until a couple of days later. Duke Energy estimated that between 50,000 to 82,000 tons of
coal ash ran into Dan River, causing it to litter and pollute with masses of debris. Duke s outrageous
proposal to fix this problem is to take money out of their customers in order to pay for the damages
caused on their behalf. Even if the lower estimates are correct, that s still 140,000 tons of toxic waste
contaminating Dan River. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unfortunate rupture of this pipe, allowed for the pond s ash coal to slither its way through the pipe
all the way into the Dan River; massive amounts of this substance leaked into the river causing it
damage to an extreme extent. Its break allowed coal ash to drain from the pond and spill into the Dan
River. (See Figure 1) The deadly components of the coal ash contains the elements such as arsenic,
selenium, boron, and many other deadly substances that contributed to the pollution of Dan River.
Even though fatal, when combined these elements are actually very useful and resourceful since they
created electricity. In 2013 this mixture of coal ash contributed to 39 percent of the energy in the
United States. Duke Energy and many other utility companies used this coal to generate electricity by
burning it and creating a cheaper and more efficient source of energy. This incident never had a back
up plan and wasn t thought out by Duke Energy s engineers; for many years, the ash was just kept in
pits underwater near the power plants. Due to the damages and negligence of Duke Energy, they now
face a multimillion dollar problem because not only do they have to make up for the spill into Dan
River, but also they have to get rid of all of their buried ash throughout every power plant they own.
For decades, that ash simply has been buried in pits near the power plants and covered with water.

Puerto Rico Light Essay
Have you ever felt like a fish out of water, or like a zebra without stripes? Many go through situations
where they feel like outcasts among others. There are certain expectations within Hispanic cultures,
especially when it comes to speaking their language. I myself have felt detached from my Puerto
Rican heritage because I don t know the Spanish lingo. Throughout my life I haven t felt accepted to
the culture itself because I ve been labeled as the phony Puerto Rican.
When I was younger, around the age of 12, I went to visit my family in Puerto Rico. As soon as I
stepped off the plane, it was as if I was thrown into whole new environment that I was unfamiliar with
at all.
I asked my grandmother, Grandma, why is it so nasty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My grandmother had to translate for me.
Grandma said, What do you feel like eating today, pequena?
I replied, I want cheese quesadillas, please.
Now cheese quesadillas were also called pizza quesadillas, which are one of my favorite meals that is
sold in Puerto Rico. They are extremely gooey and the warmth of the tortilla would fill my mouth.
Every time we headed back to NY, my grandmother would take a large box with her and we would
enjoy every last bit.
As time went by, I grew up and began to attend high school. My freshman and sophomore year I had
taken Spanish as my language course. Every year that I would step in the class and everyone would
look at me as the Hispanic girl and assumed I already knew how to speak the language fluently. They
were absolutely wrong.
My teacher Ms. Ramirez said, Bienvenida, mucho gusto.
I looked at her in astonishment. I replied, Excuse me; I m sorry I don t speak Spanish.
With this realization she responded, Okay, that is fine, that is what you re here for, to learn.
I felt at ease because every time someone comes to me speaking Spanish, I have the tendency to feel
ashamed or embarrassed. Next year came along, sophomore year and again i m in the same
predicament, a non Spanish speaker. Towards the end of my first class, the teacher gives us an
assignment to do for the remainder of the time.
A classmate of mine turns around and presumes to ask, Hey, can you help me out

  • 2. October Revolution Problems Lenin and Problems After the October Revolution The initial difficulties faced by the new Soviet Union were to severe that its survival seemed almost miraculous. The remains of the czarist regime left Lenin to face a country wrought with war, devastated economically. Russia s involvement in World War I, followed by its Civil War, wide spread famine and a change in political and social ideology were the problems confronting Lenin after the October Revolution. Lenin did succeed in ending both the war with Germany and the Civil War for Russia. Yet, the economic and social aspects of the revolution can be more critically assessed. Lenin knew the importance of ending Russian involvement in World War I. On March 3, 1918 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As in the case of the World War, a simple end to the fighting did not signify an end to the devastation that had been left as a consequence. The economic and social problems that arose from the end of the czarist regime were dealt with by Lenin initially unsuccessfully. War communism, a forced socialized economic policy began with the confiscation of surplus grain. It then extended to all other products. Abusive detachments fought peasant resistance with the terror of the Red Army, and in 1919 when they gained control, with the Extraordinary Commission (Cheka). What Lenin had thought would bring the triumph of communism rendered only misery and disorder. The Kronstadt Revolt in February, 1921 is an example of the indignation felt by those that saw the Bolshevik s policies as too oppressive. Finally, Lenin sees that a transition period is necessary, and denounces war communism for its impractical severity. Up until this point the disastrous economic and social problems of the nation were not dealt with successfully. Both World War I and the Civil War left rampant destruction in Russia s agricultural production. Drought as well as the failure of war communism led to wide spread famine. At this point Lenin introduced gradual economic measures that began as agricultural policies. According to British historian E.H. Carr, Lenin s New Economic Policy increased from food production to trade, to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William Carlos Williams The Fish As A Machine Made Of Words The Fish As a Machine Made Of Words Marianne Moore s use of syllabic verse, enjambment and imagery in her poem, The Fish , demonstrates William Carlos Williams definition of poetry as A machine made of words, in an exact, live and eroding portrayal of the sea. Moore s use of enjambment represents the driving force of a machine that works ceaselessly. The majority of the poetic lines in each stanza break before the sentences end, obligating the reader to continue on to the next line due to the incomplete syntax which does not allow for a natural pause. For instance: Of the crow blue mussel shells, one keeps adjusting the ash heaps; opening and shutting itself like Clearly, the enjambment takes place not only between ... But,are they helpful or harmful to students education. To further look at this issue my group and I decided to reasearch this topic to find out if there was a correlation between extracurricular activites and student success. Going into this topic our hypothesis was.If a student participates in extracurricular activities then the student is more likely to succeed in school. To gather data we created a survey. This survey included five questions, three strongly agree to strongly disagree, one yes/no question, and one multiple choice question. We surveyed 44 students both male and female students grades ninth to eleventh as we felt that in these grades students would be most involved in extracurricular activities. The first question on the survey was. Do you participate in extracurricular activities? Which from the people surveyed was a unanimous yes. This was expected due to the sheer number of people who participate in extracurricular activities as well as the variety of extracurricular activities. Question two. How much time a day do you speand participating in extracurricular activites? For this question in general both males and females from all the grades on average said three to four hours which was fairly expected as three to four hours is a long amount of time but not long as the other choice five to six hours or as short as one to two ... • 6. Light Pollution, And The Effects Of Light Pollution A new study illustrates that light pollution has increased to such an extent all over the world that both human beings and other animals are negatively affected by it. The study marks the first observation of satellite images to ever be designed specifically for detecting particular types of artificial lights. A petition was also started recently via Change.Org outlining three main ways light pollution impinges upon the health of humans and birds while also brightening the night sky. For human health, the biggest issue is it messes with circadian rhythms, according to Laura Stepney, who started the petition. You can get black out curtains but you shouldn t have to. The city should be considering that from the beginning with the design, instead of people having to react and protect themselves. She cites a study that found residents of metropolitan areas lose considerable hours of sleep due to going to bed later and waking earlier. A more recent study published in the peer reviewed journal, Science Advances, used satellite data to illustrate that Earth s night is gradually brightening. It also showed that artificially lit outdoor surfaces have become 2.2 percent more common on average each year since 2012. Pundits argue that this is particularly problematic because these nighttime lights not only disrupt circadian rhythms but also increase risks of depression, diabetes and cancer. In the course of migrating, both sea turtles and birds are disoriented by nighttime lights, and insects are attracted to them, which often leads them to their death. These lights are predominately LED lights, which have become increasingly popular over the course of the last couple decades primarily based on the marketing promise of energy conservation. LED lights are not inherently problematic in and of themselves according to German Research Center for Geosciences physicist Chris Kyba. He says the problem is the sheer number of lights that people are collectively installing. We ll light something that we didn t light before, like a bicycle path through a park or a section of highway leading outside of town in the past wasn t lit, Kyba explains as an example. And so all of those new uses of light offset, to some extent, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Optimum Fuel Choice to Ensure Power Supply Energy security is a varied and complex concept that relates to import dependency, energy prices, the capacity and integrity of the supply and distribution infrastructure, fuel diversity and environmental concerns. After evaluating the advantages, disadvantages and policy requirements of the three energy sources (gas, coal and nuclear) we have made the conclusion that encompasses the security of supply issue for Ireland, UK and France, for their future fuel sustainability. Introduction This paper investigates the optimum fuel choice to ensure security of supply. In this case we will be closely looking at Ireland, UK and France, and analysing nuclear, coal and gas as our fuel sources. The different situations we will be examining will include their advantages and disadvantages, their effect on the climate, the possible effect they will have on future electricity prices and the policy that will accompany them. We will compare each energy source with the other, and conclude which fuel source has shown it to be the leader in the security of supply scenario. We will begin with the analysis of gas a fuel source to ensure security of supply in Ireland, and thus incorporating UK and France in our trends and estimations. Gas Security of supply is a worldwide issue, with recent developments between Ukraine and Russia concerns about the security of our fuel are high. We are aware that gas could be cut off at any point, effecting a large portion of Europe (22% of EU gas imports are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However she is made out to be a whore by Claudio at her own expense on her wedding day. Beatrice is the heroine of the play; she possesses a quick wit and a quick tongue. With this description of Hero as a jewel it can be thought that Shakespeare is using Claudio to convey to the audience the beauty of Hero. Shakespeare could also be explaining the way in which men own women and the way that women are property in the eyes of Shakespearean men. Beatrice clearly does not wish to be owned or considered property and worth of a woman. As it pertains to worth in regards to Hero, marrying Claudio can advance her father s Leonato business endeavors. Marrying Claudio could be seen as marrying a financial, stable, secure future for Leonato and for Hero. The climax of the play is when the wedding ceremony is aborted and Hero is shamed and she is accused of disloyalty to Claudio. The Properties of Hydrostatics Three containers are filled with water to the same height and have the same surface area at the base: hence the water pressure and total force on the base of each is the same. According to Newton s 3rd law, the container will push back on the water in the exact opposite direction, also perpendicular to the surface of the container Consider what happens when you push both a pin and the blunt end of a pen against your skin with the same force. If air is incompressible, then yes.The full balloon will have more weight (more downward force), due to the mass of the air in the balloon. The full balloon will also have an upward buoyant force on it, equal to the weight of the air displaced by the balloon. Since the balloon is both containing air and floating in air, the weight of the air inside the balloon is the same magnitude as the buoyant force. Filled balloon has a higher apparent density compared to empty balloon. IF you dangle 2 pieces of paper vertically a few inches apart and blow between then, how do you think the papers will move? To this day, homes suited for a nuclear family with a full time mom set the standard of expectations in the American housing industry. But since then, our demographics have diversified. On average, there are few people per house than there were in the 1950s. Lifestyles have changed and people eat out more than they used to. It may make no sense to have a kitchen outfitted as if there is a full time mom cooking from scratch every night for a large family. This means the standard appliances can be overkill. The 1998 Dreamworks production The Prince of Egypt was created to follow the remarkable story of Moses, Leading his people from slavery but was changed by the directors to give it some originality. The setting, the characters and the storylines are some of the things that have been changed in the animated story. Therefore the Dreamworks Pictures film is inaccurate and does not flow along the same page as the Biblical story of Exodus. Firstly, when compared, The settings In the Dreamworks production differ from the ones in the Biblical account. The directors have made this change to add some excitement to some of the settings. • 24. Social Psychologist Philip Zimbardo s Prison Experiment... When we see people doing bad things we assume it is because they are bad people. Social Psychologist Philip Zimbardo would argue that this isn t true. In April 2004 disturbing and graphic pictures surfaced, showing American soldiers mentally and physically abusing Iraqi prisoners held at the Abu Ghraib prison located in Bagdad. Looking at the photos that was surfaced, it looks strikingly familiar to those in the Stanford prison experiment that was done many years ago. The prisoners had bags over their heads and were subjected to all kinds of sexual and inhumane humiliation. The military went on the defence saying those officers were a few bad apples. To understand why the military soldiers at the Abu Grahib prison abused the Iraqi prisoners, we need to look back at the lessons of Philip Zimbardo s prison experiment and Stanley Milgram s Obedience to Authority experiment. The results of these experiments showed that there are a set of social psychological factors that can make ordinary people do things they could have never imagined doing. It shows how people respond when placed in cruel environments without clear rules, do bad things. I will look at Zimbardo s case of Good apples in bad barrels. The odd slipper (Page 99 101), specifically addresses a lot of Mr. Palomar s perspectives on simple topics, it clearly shows that Mr. Palomar is a deep thinker and it conveys his habit of over complicating matters that are supposed to be simple, it is effective in highlighting the image that Mr. Palomar is a character who tends to isolate himself from the world by questioning it and examining every aspect of our being and stance in society. The odd slipper (Page 99) is about Mr. Palomar receiving a mismatched shoe while shopping in Bazaar. This passage displays the sudden division of Mr. Palomar s seemingly strong perspective into two different, opposing viewpoints. He is an indefatigable investigator, who, at the campus conservative magazine, the Claremont Independent and at his own rollicking blog for four years kept Claremont McKenna College buzzing with revelations about affirmative action, politically tendentious speakers, and abuses in student government. He held college administrators feet to the fire, and they got singed. It was easier to condemn than to refute him, and his critics soon gave up on the latter. The ability to put our daily tasks on hold for a short amount of time in order to clear our minds and reinvigorate ourselves is something that all people need from time to time. In fact, we all seem to have those times in our life were we get a week or two off to have the time of our lives. One particular experience that I had impacted me in two primary ways. This experience was when I took a Royal Caribbean Cruise in the Gulf of Mexico. Strangely enough, this experience impacted me in two completely opposite, and nearly paradoxical, ways. Truthfully, what I took away from my Royal Caribbean Cruise would be considered by many to be the opposite of what they would expect. It was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we started to put some distance between the tourist trap, and ourselves we finally caught a glimpse of the beach that we were to spend our day at. However, as we drew closer to the beach, we noticed another flock of salesmen who were, like the ones in the tourist trap, very happy to see us. Our tram, nowhere near fast enough to outrun these ambitious salesmen, was littered by these locals with crude, homemade leaflets advertising local restaurants and was badgered to buy everything from straw hats to ... • 46. Fdi Of Foreign Investment Law Essay FDI Institutional Change in Indonesia The strong growth of total global FDI has increased the need of FDI as a source of external financing to contribute in host country s economic development. This condition encourages many countries to perform institutional reform in order to attract larger shares of FDI flows. From the perspective of investors, they are more concern on the host country s institutional quality when determining their investment location (Ali et al 2010). Therefore, institutions are essential determinant of host country s locational advantage to entice FDI (Bevan et al 2004). Capital account liberalization process in Indonesia started under Soeharto s New Order presidency which was remarked by the introduction of Foreign Investment Law in 1967. Prior the issuance of this law, under President Soekarno regime (1945 1967), the government initiated self sufficiency policy and Indonesia was administered as a socialist economy. In Soekarno era, investors from western countries were strictly restricted to invest in Indonesia (Fitriandi et al 2014, p.81). As a consequence, Indonesia was not an attractive place for foreign investors (Lindblad 2015, p.221). • 47. A Brief Note On Dan River Coal Ash Spill Dan River Coal Ash Spill On Sunday, February 2, 2014 on a cold day, a water pipe exploded under a coal ash impoundment at Duke Energy s Dan River Power Station near Eden, North Carolina. This problem caused a lot of commotion throughout the community, and to make matters worse, Duke Energy didn t announce this incident until a couple of days later. Duke Energy estimated that between 50,000 to 82,000 tons of coal ash ran into Dan River, causing it to litter and pollute with masses of debris. Duke s outrageous proposal to fix this problem is to take money out of their customers in order to pay for the damages caused on their behalf. Even if the lower estimates are correct, that s still 140,000 tons of toxic waste contaminating Dan River. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The unfortunate rupture of this pipe, allowed for the pond s ash coal to slither its way through the pipe all the way into the Dan River; massive amounts of this substance leaked into the river causing it damage to an extreme extent. Its break allowed coal ash to drain from the pond and spill into the Dan River. (See Figure 1) The deadly components of the coal ash contains the elements such as arsenic, selenium, boron, and many other deadly substances that contributed to the pollution of Dan River. Even though fatal, when combined these elements are actually very useful and resourceful since they created electricity. In 2013 this mixture of coal ash contributed to 39 percent of the energy in the United States. Duke Energy and many other utility companies used this coal to generate electricity by burning it and creating a cheaper and more efficient source of energy. This incident never had a back up plan and wasn t thought out by Duke Energy s engineers; for many years, the ash was just kept in pits underwater near the power plants. Due to the damages and negligence of Duke Energy, they now face a multimillion dollar problem because not only do they have to make up for the spill into Dan River, but also they have to get rid of all of their buried ash throughout every power plant they own. For decades, that ash simply has been buried in pits near the power plants and covered with water. Now, in North ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are certain expectations within Hispanic cultures, especially when it comes to speaking their language. I myself have felt detached from my Puerto Rican heritage because I don t know the Spanish lingo. Throughout my life I haven t felt accepted to the culture itself because I ve been labeled as the phony Puerto Rican. When I was younger, around the age of 12, I went to visit my family in Puerto Rico. Now cheese quesadillas were also called pizza quesadillas, which are one of my favorite meals that is sold in Puerto Rico. They are extremely gooey and the warmth of the tortilla would fill my mouth. Every time we headed back to NY, my grandmother would take a large box with her and we would enjoy every last bit. As time went by, I grew up and began to attend high school. My freshman and sophomore year I had taken Spanish as my language course. Every year that I would step in the class and everyone would look at me as the Hispanic girl and assumed I already knew how to speak the language fluently. They were absolutely wrong. My teacher Ms. Ramirez said, Bienvenida, mucho gusto. I looked at her in astonishment. I replied, Excuse me; I m sorry I don t speak Spanish. With this realization she responded, Okay, that is fine, that is what you re here for, to learn. I felt at ease because every time someone comes to me speaking Spanish, I have the tendency to feel ashamed or embarrassed. Next year came along, sophomore year and again i m in the same predicament, a non Spanish speaker.
