The United States Railway System
The United States railway system is almost as old as the nation itself. If it was not for the railway
system, our country may not have become one of the most lucrative superpowers it is today.
Colonel John Stevens is credited for first presenting the idea of building a railway in 1812. Mr.
Stevens probably did not expect the railway system to become the massive technological innovation
it once became. The railway systems in the United Statesoriginally consisted of carriages and
wagons being pulled down a track by a horse or two. This form of train was most commonly used
for transporting freight.
Luckily, Colonel Stevens received the first ever railway grant in 1815 to construct the New Jersey
Railroad Company. By 1826, Stevens tested the first steam engine train in the United States,
known as the Steam Wagon. The Steam Wagon relied on the power of steam to move. Coal was
shoveled into something called a firebox. The heat created from the burning coals was used to
convert water into steam. Smoke was released through the chimney while the heat boiled the water,
which created steam. The steam was then relocated to the cylinders through the steam pipes, where
they created the power to move the wheels of the train. It did take some time to build up enough
steam to start move the train. However when enough steam was built up, the conductors of the train
would blow the whistle to signal being ready to leave the station.
In 1827, the Baltimore and Ohio railway was

Why Do People Need Goals To Be Successful In Life
Do people need goals to be successful in life? Goals are important to be successful. The goals I
find important to my success are graduate from high school, go to college to get my cosmetology
license, and then get my CNA license. My first goal is to graduate high school. I know that I need
to graduate high to get my diploma. I want to graduate high schoolso that I can go to college. I am
going to achieve this goalby paying attention in class and listen to the teacher. I am going to work
hard to do my best and stay focused. By doing those two things I will hopefully be able to pass all
my 4 state tests: biology, algebra 1, history, and English 2. I WILL achieve this goal. My second
goal is to go to college to get my cosmetologist license.

Role Of Social Media Within The Online Community
CHAPTER 2 Literature Review The domain of sentiment analysis has witnessed a growth of
substantial research. Even though there were some attempts to study sentiment analysis previously,
the growing interest in the research area came up as a result of the eruption of user generated data
in online discussion forums and reviews and most especially social media. According to Pang and
Lee (2008), the research of sentiment analysis can be broadly classified into two main areas:
research investigating the polarity of subjective text and research evaluating the objectivity of
subjectivity of textual entities. The following section provides a literature review on the role of
social media within the online community. Next, an overview of sentiment analysis is discussed,
twitter sentiment analysis, the application of sentiment analysis in political discussions, sentiment
analysis techniques, the features of sentiment analysis and finally the challenges attached to
sentiment analysis. The Role of Social Media within the Online Community In the recent times, the
massive growth of social media platforms particularly Twitter has resulted in the generation of
interest from various researchers from different academic and professional field with the discourse
of BIG DATA. One domain of research has focused on the internal use of microblogging to support
project management within a corporate organisation (Bohringer and Richter, 2009). Others have
evaluated the role of twitter on the

A Contemporary Analysis Of Accounting Professionals Work...
A research paper is only considered valuable if it is both valid and reliable in measuring the
constructs that it claims to. This paper is aimed at evaluating the validity and reliability of the
research paper titled A Contemporary Analysis of Accounting Professionals Work Life Balance by
Buchheit, Dalton, Harp and Hollingsworth, published in the Accounting Horizons Journal in March
2016 in its first issue of volume 30. The research paper endeavoured to provide answers for two
main research questions that were aimed at scrutinising the difference between 1. auditors and tax
professionals in terms of their work life conflict, burnout and perceptions regarding alternative work
arrangements (AWA) across all sizes of public accounting firms, and 2. accounting professionals
perceptions of AWAs in industry versus public accounting.
The reliability and validity of the research paper will be evaluated separately and some suggestions
on how the authors could have enhanced both reliability and validity of their research will be
provided.
2.Reliability
A research is reliable when the measurement instrument can generate the same outcomes
consistently. This section will discuss how the researchers have endeavoured to maximise reliability
by minimising method error and maximising the inter rater reliability and internal consistency of
the research. Suggestions on how to further increase the study s reliability are also given.
2.1.Method error
Any measurement procedure will

Declining Birth Rates
Before, characterizing the family was straightforward. Couples had a tendency to live together after
marriage, with kids following not long after. Presently, be that as it may, things have changed.
Characterizing the average structure of an advanced family is significantly more confounded, with
less relational unions, rising separation rates and expanding quantities of common associations
testing the present. Throughout the year s American thought of a familyhas changed in Declining
birth rates, moves in marriageand separation levels, and single parentfamilies.
Throughout the years, the declining birth rates have changed. In 1971, the normal family measure
was 2.9 individuals however, in 2006, this figure had fallen by 17% to 2.4 individuals. Amid a
similar period, the youngsters per family fell by 10% from 2.0 to 1.8, however, this figure
fluctuates incredibly relying upon nationality and ethnicity, also individual conditions. ... Show

Except for a short interference in the last 1960s, this descending pattern has proceeded to the
present time. By 1974 the unrefined birth rate (temporary) remained at 15 births for every 1,000
populaces, the most reduced level at any point recorded. This decay has been hard to clarify,
particularly since the broadened post World War II time of increased birth rates accomplices have
now entered the regenerative ages, accordingly significantly expanding the extent of prime
childbearing age lady. Information acquired by the Statistics Department s Present Populace
Review demonstrate that since the late 1950s the extent of men and ladies wedded at more youthful

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL), also known as lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma in the
WHO classification, is a malignant expansion of immature lymphoid cells that results from multi
step genetic changes in a single lymphoid progenitor cell. Its incidence peaks between the ages of
2 and 4 years(1(.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common malignancy in children (2). ALL causes
77% of children leukemia, and acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML) counts for 11% (3). ALL is
categorized based on cytogenetic and molecular criteria into a few subgroups for diagnosis,
prognosis and treatment (4 6).
There is not any comprehensive information available in Iran about the prevalence of leukemia;
however research indicates a high prevalence (7). Research showed that the prevalence of
leukemia is 16.2% in Iran, which is a higher prevalence compared with skin, lung and breast
cancers (8).

Two different forms are identified for ROR1 (13). One form lack all the out of cellular domains,
which is called shortened or truncated ROR1 (t ROR1) (13). The second form lake the intra
cellular, and transmembrane domains. However most of studies have been performed on the long
form (13). Some studies indicated that the intra cellular domain lacks biologic activity, while others
showed its vital role in transforming signal (11).
Many functions have been described for ROR; they are involved in cell polarity and tumor like
behavior like migration and invasion (14, 15). The increased expression of ROR1 had been
reported in acute and chronic lymphoblastic leukemia (16 18) and mantle cell lymphoma (19).
Though the high expression of ROR2 is reported in osteosarcoma (15) and renal cell carcinoma
(20). ROR1 also had been known as a diagnostic marker in chronic lymphoblastic leukemia (CLL)

The Shoe Horn Sonata Distinctively Visual Essay
We live in a society where visual images are becoming increasingly significant, as most information
in the media is presented as a combination of pictures and words. Visual representations enable
individuals to interpret and evaluate texts that communicate with images more effectively.
Distinctively visual techniques are used to enhance and challenge the way an individual
understands personal experiences and the world. The way that they perceive these experiences can
be shaped through distinctively visual techniques, as the vivid images can allow them to make
sense of the world and provide diverse perspectives on how they view it. John Misto s play The

Everything Everything By Nicola Yoon
Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon relates to my own life. I can relate to this book in
various ways. First, the characters. The main character Madeline and I are very much alike. We
both enjoy reading books. Just like her, When she reads a book she uses it as a life lesson to live
her life to the fullest. Also, Madeline s personality is a carefree, outgoing and curious type of
personality. When I read this book I could see myself through her. Another way I can relate to
Everything Everything is how independent Madeline is. She has a type of sickness where she
stays in her house and she cannot leave or she will get sick and possibly die. Throughout the book
it shows how strong a girl or anyone can be by themselves. Lastly the most important

The Wonders Of The Canadian Government Essay
The Wonders Of The Canadian Government
Protection of life is NOT a legitimate use for a firearm in this country sir! Not! That is expressly
ruled out! Justice Minister Allan Rock, 1994. Guns are highly controlled in Canada for a reason,
because if they were not, where would Canada be now? Canada would be in anarchy as they slowly
watch their country slip into violence and on to its impending doom(Hyperbole). To think back
on life, whether 19 years of age or 90 years of age, has there ever been a time where safety is found
in holding a gun, or a situation that felt a gun would have been necessary? To start off, Canadian
citizens will feel safer without guns because no one will have guns! Funny how that works now is
it not? Firstly, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Would Canadian citizens feel safer with the Trudeau government implementing these legislations
in? To be honest, they would, Justin made some very valid points and these did help him win a
majority government.
Lastly, if people feel unsafe with firearms they possess they can simply rid of them, when the right
time comes, through a Gun Amnesty Drive . This is where people can drop off a firearmthat you
possess that is inherited or simply, no longer in usage. That means that people can use a gun
amnesty drive to drive away the worry of that weapon crashing into the wrong hands (Verbal
Irony). Toronto Police Inspector Chris Boddy feels that any time the Toronto police removes
one gun out of a neighbourhood, [it is] a good day, and [we have] a lot of good days . Due to
Gun laws in Canada, programs like the Gun Amnesty program in Toronto, and similar ones around
the country are able to happen, which gives the police a chance to get ahead against criminals and
gangs. Do listen though, the guns collected via these programs are not repurposed for the use of
police officers, but are destroyed, ridding of anyway for the guns collected to be brought out onto
the street.
To bring this all into a smaller picture, because of the regulations set by the Trudeau government,
and because of the programs available to help destroy unwanted

Harrison Bergeron
An impartial society: Utopia or Hell? What would happen to the world if the people were literally
equal in every aspect of their lives? In the futuristic short story, Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut
Jr., the world is finally living up to America s first amendment of everyone being created equal. In
this society, the gifted, strong, and beautiful are required to wear handicaps of earphones, heavy
weights, and hideous masks, respectively. Thus, these constraints leave the world equal from brains
to brawn to beauty. With the world constantly pushing for equality among people, Vonnegut reveals
a world that society is diligently working toward. Through this foreshadowing of the future,
Vonnegut attempts to use Diana Moon Glampers and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He satirically suggests that in order for everyone to be equal, the ones who exceed the mark must
be brought down to the standard. As a result, there is a loss of the exceptional talent and beauty.
Moreover, just as Diana Moon Glampers represents the fairness of society, Harrison Bergeron
symbolizes the individuality in the world. In a society of excessive equality, Harrison Bergeron
is the one who represents uniqueness through his physical and mental characteristics. Harrison
is no ordinary being of society. In fact, he is described as a genius, an athlete,...and should be
regarded as dangerous....Instead of a little ear radio for a mental handicap, he wore a
tremendous pair of ear phones, and spectacles with thick wavy lenses....Scrap metal [is] hung all
over him....he wear[s] at all times a red rubber ball for a nose, keep[s] his eyebrows shaved off,
and cover[s] his even white teeth with black caps at snaggle tooth random (Vonnegut 236). His
physical appearance alone would definitely offset him from the rest of the crowd. Just by walking
down the street, one could sense his greatness by his excessive handicaps. Furthermore, his mental
capacity is great enough to override the annoying sounds that the H G men

Sky Cathedral Presence
Survey of World Art
By
Vyacheslav Borts
The sculptress Louise Nevelson was a towering figure of American modernism. Born in 1899, she
came to prominence in the late 50s, gaining renown for monochromatic structures built out of
discarded wood. Critic Arthur C. Danto wrote, There could be no better word for how Nevelson
composed her work than bricolage a French term that means making do with what is at hand.
(Danto 2007) Her pieces evolved and expanded in size across the latter 20th century, moving from
smaller pieces to wall sized ones, and the plays of volume therein, between light and mass,
generated comparisons to numerous different movements. The following paper will examine these

The poignancy of this girl s untimely death and the instant of life the Grave Stele captures are both
magnified by the weight and constancy of the marble. By contrast, Nevelson achieves something
like suppleness in Sky Cathedral by her use of multiple layers and multiple new spaces that emerge
from different vantage points. From the Attic Greek to the Augustan age brings one to the Imperial
Procession, located on the North frieze of the Ara Pacis Augustae (Fig. 4). The first two sculptures
put into conversation with Sky Cathedral were mortuary, but the Imperial Procession is
celebratory. The first two are both smaller than four feet, but the Procession is life sized, so its
visual force is thus magnified. Finally, the individuals therein are not idealized types, in contrast
to earlier Greek modes of statuary they naturalistic depictions of many actual people in the line of
the Caesars. The Ara Pacis took four years to build, due to its desired scale and quality, and that
scale points to a salient evolution from the Greeks to the Romans. Riegl claimed this vector went
from what he call[ed] the haptic objectivism of the Greeks the delineation of the clarity of the
object through an appeal to and a stimulation of the tactile associations of the viewer to the optical
objectivism of Roman art, in which the need to set the figure up in space as radically

Accredited Psychology programs require supervised fieldwork, giving the students a chance to
engage with criminals to evaluate and diagnose them. Once earning the doctoral degree one must
obtain a license. To achieve the license, usually one is required to complete supervised,
postdoctoral clinical work, pass a licensing examination, pass an ethics test and have no criminal
record. A criminal Psychologist might work in a number of different settings, including private
practice, corrections offices and law enforcement agencies where one can see patients. I would
consider choosing Georgetown University for my future studies because it has a unique setting, it
s a private school which means smaller student bodies, and the fact that their acceptance rate is
very low intrigues me to challenge myself, and engage into a demanding, exasperating and

The Main Causes Of The Woes Of Math Anxiety
The Woes of Math Anxiety Math anxiety is the phenomenon that affects may people, causing
them to feel anxiety or stress when faced with anything related to math. Math anxiety can
potentially affect anyone with the condition at any point in their lives, but it is most prominent
within the classroom, as that is when the math is the most stressful. Three of the main causes of
math anxiety are: public exposure, the influence of teachers, and time deadlines (Curtain
Phillips, 2017). Once the causes are fully understood, a method to overcome them can be
created. Firstly, it is important to understand when someone is suffering from math anxiety.
Some symptoms are: passive behavior, a feeling of being alone, a lack of confidence and panic
during tests (Oxford 2017). ( In complete paragraph) Public exposure refers to a student being
publicly wrong, such as when called upon a by a teacher to answer a question. This can lead to
many students, especially those with math anxiety to not speak up during class as to not make a
fool of themselves. Sometimes in even worse cases, a student has been reprimanded or scolded
by a teacher in the past which would cause them to become weary or even scared of answering a
question in class (Oxford 2017). The best way to overcome this issue would be with positive
reinforcement. Placing great focus on their success while keeping criticisms of their failure
constructive gives the student the message that it is ok to be wrong, as no one is correct every

Courage In William Faulkner s The Ardennes Forest
Although there are several themes throughout the book, the major theme is courage. Courage is
displayed not only by
General Patton but also by the soldiers he led. In the Ardennes Forest, the Americans were
outnumbered five to one, and they were low on food and weapons, but they never gave in even
though it would have been easy to do so. They held the line until help arrived.
Another possible theme of the book is egotism. General Patton thought he was a better leader than
any other military leader including his commander, General Omar Bradley, and the Supreme
Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe, General Dwight Eisenhower so he resented it when
they gave him an order. Adolf Hitlerwas also led by his ego. It was Hitler s ego that led

The Threat Of Human Genetic Engineering
(Intro not done) Human Genetic Engineering is highly unsuccessful or sometimes not needed.
People pay thousands to eliminate traits from their offspring, however are they really getting their
money s worth if the gene is being avoided naturally. In the article The Threat Of Human Genetic
Engineering by David King, states that, The main advantage of HGE is said to be the elimination
of disease genes from a family. Yet in nearly all cases, existing technologies of prenatal and
preimplantation genetic testing of embryos allow the avoidance of actual disease. There are only a
few very rare cases where HGE is the only option. This illustrates how Human genetic engineering
shows now benefits towards medicine and health. Scientist propose that we alter our genetic code
through genetic engineering. We can remove genes we do not like and replace them with genes that
carry our trait of choice. However what they don t considered is what mutations can occur down the
bloodline, David King state s, Most scientists say that what is preventing them from embarking on
HGE is the risk that the process will itself generate new mutations, which will be passed onto future
generations. This furthers the point against human genetic engineering. With minimal research on
the effects on genetic engineering there must be extensive research prior to implementation of
genetic engineering, even though it s been around for some time with some restrictions. Of course
this process of isn t

Impact Of The Age Of Exploration
The era known as the Age of Exploration, sometimes called the Age of Discovery, officially began
in the early 15th century and lasted through the 17th century. The period is characterized as a time
when Europeans began exploring the world by sea in search of new trading routes, wealth, and
knowledge. The impact of the Age of Exploration would permanently alter the world and transform
geography into the modern science it is today.
THE BIRTH OF THE AGE OF EXPLORATION
Many nations were looking for goods such as silver and gold, but one of the biggest reasons for
exploration was the desire to find a new route for the spice and silk trades. When the Ottoman
Empire took control of Constantinople in 1453, it blocked European access to the area, severely
limiting trade. In addition, it also blocked access to North Africa and the Red Sea, two very
important trade routes to the Far East.
The first of the journeys associated with the Age of Discovery were conducted by the Portuguese.
Although the Portuguese, Spanish, Italians and other had been plying the Mediterranean for
generations, most sailors kept well within sight of land or traveled known routes between ports.
Prince Henry the Navigator changed that, encouraging explorers to sail beyond the mapped routes
and discover new trade routes to West Africa.
Portuguese explorers discovered the Madeira Islands in 1419 and the Azores in 1427.
Over the coming decades, they would push farther south along the African coast, reaching the

A Critical Analysis Of Reflection In The Poetry Analysis Unit
Throughout the poetry analysis unit, I learned lots of things about the poems. I learned how to
look at, analyze, and write a poem. My whole perception of poems changed, and I am really happy
about it. Before this unit, I used to attach importance to only the meaning of the poems; however,
right now, I can attach importance to more than one device in a poem, and use them in my own
poems.
We started this journey with writing only one stanza with three or four lines. I really liked these
poems because they were short and effective. I didn t make an effort on trying to understand
these poems, but they were really impressive for me. That was the reason why I included a short
poem into my portfolio. The one that I included was one of the first ones, and Ms. Popp told me to

To make a confession, I can truly say that I couldn t get used to use them easily because to
understand them, you should think about more than one symbolism in the poem, and create a
common meaning through them. It was hard for me at the beginning, but I got used to it now.
Moreover, I wrote about a paragraph of symbolism in my summative poetry analysis, which I think
I successfully did. I included one of the poems I wrote before to improve my usage of metaphors
to my portfolio, it is called Art of Realization . This is a poem that tells about a person, who
understands the magic of the books and sees the art behind them. I used the line I turned the thin
skin of the dead tree, which symbolizes the pages of the book. I asked one of my friends to read
my poem, and she said that she never thought the pages as thin skin of the dead tree . I really think
that this line is both understandable and impressive, that s why I chose this one. Symbolisms are
very important because they create different perspectives that expand the meaning of the poem.
That s why I like to use them in my

Factual Political Knowledge
Hard news and soft news are said to be the extreme ends of standards in news value. The former
includes coverages of serious topics which are timely in orientation, while the latter is applied to
matters of human interests, entertainment, sports, and similar subjects. In response to declining
news readership, the fine lines between these two differing formats are being obscured as the more
serious hard news would employ entertaining styles and the less serious soft news would inform in
a traditional manner. Considering this blur, should it be of matter if one would prefer a specific
format in reference to their features, i.e., to choose either from news that is relying on information
or entertainment? Seeking legitimate and accurate information would not be the term for choosing

In his article, Any Good News in Soft News? Markus Prior pointed out that people who prefer
soft news formats are significantly less knowledgeable than those who prefer hard news. This
implies that a rise in factual political knowledge, as well as a long term retention of that
knowledge is improbable with the preference for soft news. Matthew Baum, in his commentary
Soft News and Political Knowledge would later argue that Prior s findings of the absence of a
measurable increase in factual political knowledge is an overly restrictive definition of learning
and that it rather demonstrates the absence of long term retention of factual knowledge. Baum
further presented evidences which speaks of an enhanced attainment of factual knowledge, at least
in high profile issues and scandals from coverage of soft news. For instance, the use of episodic
frames in soft news media influences the attention and judgments of people as they can vividly
recall on past known information. Another case is the extraction of emotional charges from soft
news reportage which makes people remember the way they feel about an issue, say, an election or

American Alliance in WWI vs. Our Failing Economy Essays
In World War I many soldiers were sent to Europe to fight for the democracy of other countries.
The idea of being part of the war was to be heroes in one of the biggest conflict of the world. The
U.S. was convinced that if they could send forces to Europe and help the Allied Forces to win the
war, they would gain a better status worldwide as the country that saved the peace and democracy.
Therefore, the United Statesgovernment sent thousands of soldiers to fight the war. A big problem
came later, when the war finished and the soldiers came back to America, they were broken and

the situation of the Bonus Marchers was the fact that the American Communist Party was involved.
One of their leaders, John Pace, was immersed in the protesters with the mission of developing a
stronger manifestation against the government; however, the Communist Party did not have a big
number of people inside of the riot. Although they took responsibility of the manifestations and
declared that they were leaders and pioneers in arguing in favor of the Patman s Bill, the truth is
that communist were only a few and it is not too clear if they influenced in the way that the
manifestation was done. President Hoover though, saw that communists were part of this riot and
he was afraid of an uprising in Washington, so he tried everything that was on his power to stop the
protest. Also, he saw the rebellion as a militia that was trying to destroy capitalism by the force,
instead of seeing that the true people who were fighting were unemployed, starving veterans,
looking for solutions.

Theme Of Educating Rita
Education is a powerful tool that holds different meanings and uses for everyone. To some, it s
simply a 13 to 17 year hurdle before beginning your real life. For others who understand it s
possibilities, like Rita, it could be a key to a whole new world. Educating Rita is the story of a
young hairstylist with a desire for a different life. She seems doomed to live the life everyone
expects her to; to get married, have children and, well, that s pretty much it, but Rita has a craving
for knowledge and self advancement. Like her mother says as they sing in the pub, Rita believes,
There must be better songs to sing than this. So she goes back to school with uncertainty, despite
her husband s insecurities and objections, because to Rita... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the beginning, Rita presents as a young, lower class woman, dressed in what might be considered
as less than conservative clothing, with blond hair and colored highlights. Although, as her
academic achievement progresses, and when she returns from London, her appearance is shown as
more refined, with more modest clothing, and single toned hair. She seems more comfortable in the
world of higher education. And though she struggled to choose appropriate clothing and classy
wine for a dinner party at first, she now prides herself in finally being able to say, I know what
clothes to wear, what wine to buy, what plays to see, what papers and books to read. Rita s
newfound confidence displays again when she is late to a tutorial because she stops to discuss
literature with a group of students, where before she feared that her opinions wouldn t sound
educated enough. On her trek for knowledge, Rita is introduced to worlds and perspectives that she
might not otherwise have experienced, and the new understanding she gains helps prepare her and
therefore gives her more confidence, to adapt to a situation easier.
Upon her return, Rita moves in with a woman named Trish. To her, Trish defines elegance. What
Rita doesn t know, is that Trish has troubles of her own. When Trish attempts suicide, Rita sees
that even the most advanced people have demons. Rita asks Trish why she tried to kill herself and
Trish responds, When I listen to

Smooth Sailing Non Conformity
Queens of the Stone Age are the writers for the song entitledSmooth Sailing. In the song we are
shown a single narrator speaking to the listener. The song revolves around a man who s removed
the need or want for a norm and status quo. One who has simply a need and want to be himself
regardless. In Queens of the Stone Ages Smooth Sailing the effects both negatively and positively
of non conformity are shown through the singers personal views, how it affects others, and the
freeing nature of non conformity. Why would people conform, and with that what makes non
conformists different. Fear of becoming outcast for being different leads to conformity. Yet when
this fear is removed freedom reigns. Firstly this will discuss the nature of... Show more content on

Apple, Inc., The Electronics And Beats Music

Electronics, the headphones giant, for $3.2 billion. Apple has enough money to buy or build any

Music? According to NBC News, Apple CEO Tim Cook told Re/Code that the company could
build about anything that you could dream of, adding that acquiring Beats would give them a head
start and add kindred spirits to company (Wagstaff, 2014). Given the years of musical experience
that both Dr. Dre, a well known legendary artist and music producer and Jimmy Iovine, the
Chairman of Interscope Geffen A M Records have and the energy they have brought to the hip
hop and pop cultures, it is no wonder that Apple would have made the decision to acquire Beats
Electronics and Beats Music. In just six years, Dr. Dre and Iovine has sealed the whole consumer
market for high end headphones. Beats also unleashed Beats Music, a streaming music service.
The negotiations take place at a critical time: the music market has seen a massive shift towards
streaming and away from downloads. U.S. revenue from downloads which iTunes dominates
dropped 1 percent to $2.8 billion in 2013, while streaming music revenue from the likes of
Pandora and Spotify soared 39 percent to $1.4 billion, according to the Recording Industry

Why I Am Legend Archetypes
I Am Legend In today s media, we see the Last Man on Earth classic archetype in novels and
movies. They are depicted as brave beyond words and can conquer anything in their path. Sure, they
hit a few bumps in the road during their conquest, but it always works out in the end. The
protagonist shows unbelievable strength in perseverance during his journey. Typically in this
archetype, the Last Manis striving to discover something that may bring mankind back. For Robert
Neville, this is not the case. In the novel, I Am LegendRobert Neville is a failed Last Man on Earth
archetype. He does not have the bravery to continue on throughout his conquest and continuously
proves himself to be weak. He attempts to do his best to be this archetype, but it isn t who he is.
In the novel, I am legend, Neville becomes a monster in the world that he lives in and many of the
vampires are afraid of him, he s the killer that comes out during the day and only wants to kill

who do it to and what their response is to what the hospice have provided them with. This essay
will also explain how the hospice is the alternative to euthanasia, pain and suffering. The Hospice
movement represents one Christian response to pain and suffering.
What is a Hospice?
A hospice is a home for the care of terminally ill (People who are dying).

When David died she carried on with this idea but she knew she would have to train as a doctor to

St Joseph s Hospice that was run by Catholic nuns. She became a practising Christian. This was a
very good experience because she could talk to real people with real problems of dying. She
realised that the last few weeks of a person s life could be the most important.
It was time for her ideas to be put into practise in 1959. She put her ideas on paper for a centre for
the dying. She knew what she wanted to cal it: St Christopher s Hospice. She chose the name

Childhood In Trevor s Crowd
Slightly before World War II, Adolf Hitler rose to power by promising great things for the
German people. He also had a quite public hatred of Jewish people, which was ignored because
of the other things he promised. This is an example of people blindly following a leader. It is a
theme that is occasionally repeated in books. Greene Graham shows a group of kids following a
leader who demands radical changes and alterations. Graham warns the reader about how a
crowd of people will follow orders from a fierce leader blindly. Trevor is an idealistic,
emotionally unstable child. The term child is used loosely, as Trevor s age is never directly

Facts and Information on Fresh Water Ecosystems
1. Compare and contrast the main types of freshwater ecosystems. Name and describe the major
zones or a typical pond or lake. There are two main types of freshwater ecosystems, those that are
eutrophic, and oligotrophic. Both share the same salinity, yet oligotrophic lakes contain more
oxygen than fish. On the flipside, eutrophic ecosystems have more fish than oxygen, which has
more cyanobacteria and require less oxygen. The ecosystems have similar food chains, yet they
differ on oxygen resources, thus making species differ from eutrophic and oligotrophic
ecosystems. Ponds would be eutrophic, and lakes would be oligotrophic from the fish. Ponds
not having a cycle of water flowing differentiates them from each other. 2. Describe three

An Essential Component Of Innate Immunity
Macrophages form an essential component of innate immunity. Activation of macrophages releases
an array of mediators that regulate all aspect of host defense, inflammation and homeostasis [1]. In
unremitting inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, persistent antigen stimulation
resulted in macrophage dysfunction which leads to inflamed synovial membrane and joint
destruction [2]. The presence of macrophages at the site of inflammationcan be further evident by
elevated levels of macrophage derived inflammatory cytokines and mediators such as TNF О±, IL

memory capacity of the individual and their ability to effectively engage in the distraction
technique. This study aims to extend on previous research pertaining to working memory capacity,
distractibility and pain perception. The objective of this study is to observe the effect distraction
has on altering painperception relative to an individual s working memorycapacity. In this study we
will utilize the operational span task (OSPAN) developed by Turner and Engle (1989) to split the
participants into high and low working memory span groups dependent on their OSPAN scores.
Participants will then engage in a simulated pain task under two conditions: distraction and no
distraction. This study will include 40 participants; 20 in the low working memory span group and
20 in the high working memory span group. We expect that the low working memory span group
will, on average, report higher pain ratings than the high working memory span group in the
experimental (distraction) condition. We hope that this study will show that the inverse relationship
between working memory and distractibility will have an effect on how people perceive pain. We
hope that the current study will guide future research in exploring alternative non pharmacological
methods to relieve pain.

His main moment of putting his trust in God was when he accepted his daughter s death and
trusted that God was taking care of her in heaven. If he had not trusted God like he did, he
would not have learned to trust God and act courageously like he did. His trust in God also lead
to one other attribute that helped mold him into a good leader and a good man, and that was
integrity. His integrity was the characteristic that allowed other men to follow him with a clean

HYPOTHESIS: Without the effects of friction the momentum will be conserved in the isolated

METHOD: An air hockey table was set up and a video camera on a tripod was placed over the air

This would have created friction which is regarded as an external force; therefore the pucks were
no longer in an isolated system. Another random error occurred in the first experiment where the
red puck was initially held down to prevent it from moving and released when the black puck
collided with it. Due to the person s reaction time, holding it in place may have interfered with the
collision as it was an external force and this may have impacted upon the results.
Several systematic occurred in this experiment, but the most important one would have been the
fact that the air hockey table was not completely level. This impacted upon the experiment in two
ways. In the first experiment where the red puck is initially stationary, as the table was not level it
moved around before the black puck collided with it. To overcome this the red puck had to be held
in place and as mentioned before this would have provided and external force acting upon the puck.
The unevenness of the air hockey table also meant that there was a possibility of friction acting on
the pucks while they were moving. In the third collision with the Velcro another systematic error
occurred. When the two pucks collided and stuck together they did not continue straight, instead
they rotated. This is not linear momentum but rather it is angular momentum. This is reflected in
the results as the magnitude of the initial and final momentum of the system is equal, but the

Woodrow Wilson s Accomplishments And Failures
Abstract
To better understand the successes and failures of the 28th president of the United States,
Woodrow Wilson, it is essential to define the image he portrayed to the American population
during his presidency. Many Americans and historians will claim he was a man of impartiality
and the one who led America into WWI. He had a very solid influence on Congress for the many
domestic and foreign affair policies he endorsed. The goal is to illustrate how President Woodrow
Wilson ran his presidency in the eyes of the American citizens. This will be done by examining the
many facades that President Woodrow Wilson exhibited during his term as president. Upon
researching the events of President Woodrow Wilson, it is clear that he was significant in moving
our nation onward and supporting the American people in every which way possible.

As Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the United Statesonce said, America is not anything if
it consists of each of us. It is something only if it consists of all of us . (brainyquote.com, 2014).
This is true because we consider America as an entire nation. President Woodrow Wilson took
office in 1913 and served his term until 1921. To many Americans he was known as a man of
neutrality. He did not favor America s entry into war under any circumstances. During the period of
neutrality prior to American entrance into World War I

Why Is Love Important In Romeo And Juliet
The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare is a tragedy about two teenagers who
fall in love, yet their parents are rivals. Romeo and Juliet end up being a love at first sight kind
of deal, meeting, not knowing that their families hate each others. Juliet comes up with a scheme
to live with Romeo forever, faking her death, however Romeo never got the notice of this and
went over after her ceremony, killing himself right as she wakes up, after she wakes up she ends
up killing herself, laying next to Romeo. The timing in this movie is incredibly horrible, from
Romeo just missing the letter, and from Juliet waking up right as he dies. It will could astonishes
the audience that this is called a tragedy, when it s seems more like... Show more content on

One thing Juliet says is Spread thy close curtain, love performing night, That runaway s eyes
may wink and Romeo leap to these arms, untalked of and unseen. Lovers can see to do their

night, thou sober suited matron all in black, and learn me how to lose a winning match, play d for
a pair of stainless maidenhoods. Hood my unmann d blood, bating in my cheeks. This means that
Juliet can t wait to get married, and their honeymoon, even though she anticipates that the night is

and she doesn t seem shy about spending the night with her husband. Although there are many cruel
jokes, one stuck out and that s when Sampson and Gregory compare sex to violence against the
Montagues. One states that he will push Montague s men from the wall, and thrust [Montagues]
maids to the wall. Not only do these guys make jokes, but that Nurse refers to it as well referring
to fetching a ladder, to bring Romeo to climb up to Juliet s bird s nest, their wedding night. The
inappropriate jokes continue and continue throughout the play making this one of the reasons that

The Controversy of Artificial Intelligence
Throughout its history, artificial intelligence has always been a topic with much controversy.
Should human intelligence be mimicked? If so, are there ethical bounds on what computers should
be programmed to do? These are a couple of question that surround the artificial intelligence
controversy. This paper will discuss the pros and cons of artificial intelligence so that you will be
able to make an educated decision on the issue. What is Artificial Intelligence? The first step in
getting anywhere with this debate must begin with defining what artificial intelligence is exactly.
Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, is the area of computer science focusing on creating
machines that can engage in the human behaviors of intelligence.... Show more content on

ITSs will offer considerable flexibility in presentation of material and a greater ability to
respond to student needs. CONS of AI Every controversial issue has its downside. Some of the
cons of AI include: Cost Loss of jobs Losing social life Ethical Issues Fear Cost Perhaps the
single most obvious con is the amount of funding that has gone into AI research. Federal
funding is critical because it can sustain long term high risk research and provide a collection of
technical and human resources. The big question is whether such funding is justifiable. In a
world where poverty, disease, and hunger still plague the less fortunate, wouldn t the billions of
dollars be better spent aiding those in need? Why should we worry about the possibility of
artificial life when we still haven t conquered our more immediate problems? Funding is the
smallest problem of AI. Losing Jobs in the Industry Many people fear that adding AI to
industries will mean a decrease in jobs, which it will. Many fields will feel the effect of AI, if not
today, in the near future. Assembly lines that once contained humans, now contain robots. Check
out clerks at stores are gradually being replaced with self check out machines. Bank tellers aren t
used as often because of the ease of automated teller machine (ATM) banking. In fact, some banks
charge a fee if you use their tellers for transactions that can be made at an ATM. In the previous
section, it was stated that AI

Human Resource Practices With Business Goals
In today s ever increasing competitive business environment, Human Resource practices with
business outcomes in mind is a necessary first step in aligning business goals with employee
motives, a well rounded compensation plan precedes attainment of these business
goals(Martocchio 3). As can be seen by this statement, compensation is a major concern for all
players in the business world today. As a matter of fact, if a companyfails to properly manage their
compensation package they will find themselves being left behind by the competition. In particular,
what exactly does being left behind in compensation and benefits mean? It stands that other
companies will have an advantage in attracting high performers who can create an impact for...

Concerning this highly important subject of fair and equal compensation to motivate
employees, a fair and equitable compensation system should be free of bias which can only serve
to increase profits for a company verse a substandard compensation package which can only
result in undeniable failure of such a company. By the same token, this can serve to attract
employees that can truly make a difference for the company and it s bottom line. What is more, a
fair system can serve to add to the perceived distributed justice of that company. Theories of
distributive justice seek to specify what is meant by a just distribution of goods among members
of society (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy). Notably, if an employee witnesses lower level
performer s receiving higher compensation than their own. Than that employee is likely to grow
resentment against the company and its compensation packages. Thus, this may cause a high
performer to leave elsewhere where they will receive improved compensation. In particular,
companies would want to avoid such resentment because it will lead to a less motivated
workforce and talent pool. By the same token, if the employee is an especially high performer the
chances of that employee leaving are even greater because he or she will value their pay to the
amount of effort applied. Hence, if a company wants to retain and keep great performers then the
company needs to attract employees that can make a difference through a fair

The Effect Of Cost On The Profitability Of The Businesses...
Introduction
All businesses work with the main objective of making a profit. The determination of the
profitability of the businesses will depend on the assessment of various factors of production as
they contribute to the final income. The most primitive way of expressing the profit of a firm is
through the subtraction of the costs from the revenues. Fixed cost is costs that are not changeable
over a long period of time while the variable costs do change as time changes. Traditionally, the
statement of accounts and profitability only took into consideration the interplay between the two
factors costs and revenues. In this traditional statement, variable costs and fixed cost were treated
similarly. The separation of the costs as either fixed cost or variable cost came into being with the
advent of the margin statement. In simplest terms, contribution margin has been used to indicate
the result of excess between the revenues and the variable costs. The contribution margin is
therefore, an in depth statement of profit to take to account a lot of other financial variables in the
like revenues, expenses, profits, and losses among others. Gross profit is a crude profit since it does
not entirely belong to the company s revenue. These are some of the loopholes in the accounting
that the contribution margin exists to seal and it does this through the consideration of net profit in
the accounting period other than the gross profit. The most important application of the contribution

The Interview With Sara Watkins
Introduction Every individual has their own perception on what a leader is to them. What is a
leader? What characteristics does a leader have? Are leaders born or made? These questions, along
with many more throughout the process have given a general idea of what a good leader entails.
This grouped included 17 anonymous interviews that provides the thoughts and opinions of what
leadershipis, which include similarities across the board along with some differences.
Analysis
There are two different kinds of leaders. One would be a team player and the other is more of a

Key words and phrases that I found in the research that correlate are anyone who influences, who
sets a good example, and is a great communicator.
There was also good feedback on whether a leader can be born or made. A majority seemed to
think that the answer is both. Nature vs. Nurture was brought up on multiple occasions throughout
the interviews saying that both are important. This made sense because just like any trait, if you
don t use it then you lose it. One might be born with the right traits and characteristics but it is
ones experiences that really brings them to light. It was brought up more than once that being born
with those traits just makes the path to being a leader easier. Though there was one who thought
one could only be born to be a leader.

Confucius philosophers, Confucius, Mencius and Xunzi, are all vying for the position of the
leader of the Confucianist party, a center right party who rules China in 2025. The three
candidates have some differing views on the possible direction of the party and each have their
own ideas about not only the way humanity is naturally or currently but they are also concerned
with the way man should deal with conflict, self cultivation and day to day life. The story is set
during a time of much conflict and World War 3 has recently broken out after decades of turmoil.
There is significant amount of worry among the general population and each leader wishes to ease

Steel and Tariffs Essay
Steel and Tariffs
We have all heard this joke. Only now the horse has been replaced with consumers of steel in the
US steel industry. Why? Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce
their goods are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a
tariff on imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of
the steel import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. Unfortunately
though, that hasn t happened. Steel prices are currently at record highs and many forecast even
higher prices to come. This puts huge pressure on small businesses that are dependent on steel for
their well being. With higher prices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all
shouldn t we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it
is hard to determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of.
Plus, which jobs are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of
the down stream users of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business
owners and ourselves as the increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us,
the consumer.
The Argument for Tariffs
Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on
our economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade
policy has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for
import policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a
result, domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective
tariff raises revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the
expense of foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from
foreign exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. This money can then be used in
domestic government policies and could

Student Cheating In School
It s no secret that every teacher as encountered one of their students cheating off one another;
whether because they didn t study the night before or because in their mind, they felt the need
to. Nowadays, in many schools; student cheating is a very common case that s occurring much
more often and occur for various reasons. Whether it may be unpreparedness, lack of time
management or focusing on the lesson. Student cheating couldn t possibly be stopped by
administrators because of the new ways of communication that are available to students and the
fast pace system of which teachers have their students learn. As days pass by, we continuously
learn new ways to communicate with the world around us. New cell phone updates coming with
brand new features, watches that give us the ability to leave our phones at home because who
wouldn t want to be able to text from their own watch? Teachers want the class to constantly put
the cell phones away during testing; for the obvious reasoning of cheating. But with innovations
like this, the way to cheat is literally wrapped around your wrist. Regardless, student cheating
will grow harder to put an end to, because the world around us moves far too quickly to figure out
how these students are sharing answers. People talk, and it s easier for students to simply text a
classmate the key to the quiz that they so happened to get from another student in an entire
different class period. It spreads quickly; and a teacher can t possibly know

Bone Supplements
This is as true of bone supplements as it is of any other, and particularly true of supplements
containing both calcium and glucosamine. Glucosamine is manufactured in small amounts during
the normal biochemistry of your body, but decreases as you age. Glucosamine is a chemical that is
used by your body for the manufacture of cartilage that protects the bones in your joint by providing
a cushion between them. Without cartilage the boneends of your joints would rapidly wear, a
condition commonly known as osteoarthritis.
The main structural components of the cartilage in your body are substances known as
glucosaminoglycans, and they are responsible for connective tissues such as tendons, ligaments,

Omega 6 is good for you, but only in moderation relative to your Omega 3 intake. Omega 9 fatty
acids can reduce the chances of you developing atherosclerosis, with a consequent reduction on
the possibility of heart disease and strokes. It is a strong antioxidant and can help to reduce your
cholesterol level and blood pressure, and together with Omega 3 and 6 reduce the risk of breast
cancer.
When you consider all of these benefits of the Omega fatty acids, and also of calcium and
Glucosamine supplements in association with Vitamin D and magnesium, any supplement
containing all of these would of extreme benefit, not only to those suffering from arthritis and other
bone conditions, but also of high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
Such a supplement in liquid form would render it even more potent due the much faster and more
efficient absorption by the body. The benefits of liquid calcium supplements would then be
augmented with substances that not only improve the absorption and beneficial effects of the
calcium, but also provide the additional benefits of antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties
that help to allay the painful effects of bone and joint

  • 2. The United States Railway System The United States railway system is almost as old as the nation itself. If it was not for the railway system, our country may not have become one of the most lucrative superpowers it is today. Colonel John Stevens is credited for first presenting the idea of building a railway in 1812. Mr. Stevens probably did not expect the railway system to become the massive technological innovation it once became. The railway systems in the United Statesoriginally consisted of carriages and wagons being pulled down a track by a horse or two. This form of train was most commonly used for transporting freight. Luckily, Colonel Stevens received the first ever railway grant in 1815 to construct the New Jersey Railroad Company. By 1826, Stevens tested the first steam engine train in the United States, known as the Steam Wagon. The Steam Wagon relied on the power of steam to move. Coal was shoveled into something called a firebox. The heat created from the burning coals was used to convert water into steam. Smoke was released through the chimney while the heat boiled the water, which created steam. The steam was then relocated to the cylinders through the steam pipes, where they created the power to move the wheels of the train. It did take some time to build up enough steam to start move the train. However when enough steam was built up, the conductors of the train would blow the whistle to signal being ready to leave the station. In 1827, the Baltimore and Ohio railway was ... • 4. Role Of Social Media Within The Online Community CHAPTER 2 Literature Review The domain of sentiment analysis has witnessed a growth of substantial research. Even though there were some attempts to study sentiment analysis previously, the growing interest in the research area came up as a result of the eruption of user generated data in online discussion forums and reviews and most especially social media. According to Pang and Lee (2008), the research of sentiment analysis can be broadly classified into two main areas: research investigating the polarity of subjective text and research evaluating the objectivity of subjectivity of textual entities. The following section provides a literature review on the role of social media within the online community. Next, an overview of sentiment analysis is discussed, twitter sentiment analysis, the application of sentiment analysis in political discussions, sentiment analysis techniques, the features of sentiment analysis and finally the challenges attached to sentiment analysis. The Role of Social Media within the Online Community In the recent times, the massive growth of social media platforms particularly Twitter has resulted in the generation of interest from various researchers from different academic and professional field with the discourse of BIG DATA. One domain of research has focused on the internal use of microblogging to support project management within a corporate organisation (Bohringer and Richter, 2009). • 5. A Contemporary Analysis Of Accounting Professionals Work... A research paper is only considered valuable if it is both valid and reliable in measuring the constructs that it claims to. This paper is aimed at evaluating the validity and reliability of the research paper titled A Contemporary Analysis of Accounting Professionals Work Life Balance by Buchheit, Dalton, Harp and Hollingsworth, published in the Accounting Horizons Journal in March 2016 in its first issue of volume 30. The research paper endeavoured to provide answers for two main research questions that were aimed at scrutinising the difference between 1. auditors and tax professionals in terms of their work life conflict, burnout and perceptions regarding alternative work arrangements (AWA) across all sizes of public accounting firms, and 2. accounting professionals perceptions of AWAs in industry versus public accounting. The reliability and validity of the research paper will be evaluated separately and some suggestions on how the authors could have enhanced both reliability and validity of their research will be provided. 2.Reliability A research is reliable when the measurement instrument can generate the same outcomes consistently. This section will discuss how the researchers have endeavoured to maximise reliability by minimising method error and maximising the inter rater reliability and internal consistency of the research. Suggestions on how to further increase the study s reliability are also given. 2.1.Method error Any measurement procedure will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Declining Birth Rates Before, characterizing the family was straightforward. Couples had a tendency to live together after marriage, with kids following not long after. Presently, be that as it may, things have changed. Characterizing the average structure of an advanced family is significantly more confounded, with less relational unions, rising separation rates and expanding quantities of common associations testing the present. Throughout the year s American thought of a familyhas changed in Declining birth rates, moves in marriageand separation levels, and single parentfamilies. Throughout the years, the declining birth rates have changed. In 1971, the normal family measure was 2.9 individuals however, in 2006, this figure had fallen by 17% to 2.4 individuals. By 1974 the unrefined birth rate (temporary) remained at 15 births for every 1,000 populaces, the most reduced level at any point recorded. This decay has been hard to clarify, particularly since the broadened post World War II time of increased birth rates accomplices have now entered the regenerative ages, accordingly significantly expanding the extent of prime childbearing age lady. Also, Madeline s personality is a carefree, outgoing and curious type of personality. When I read this book I could see myself through her. That is expressly ruled out! Justice Minister Allan Rock, 1994. Guns are highly controlled in Canada for a reason, because if they were not, where would Canada be now? Canada would be in anarchy as they slowly watch their country slip into violence and on to its impending doom(Hyperbole). To think back on life, whether 19 years of age or 90 years of age, has there ever been a time where safety is found in holding a gun, or a situation that felt a gun would have been necessary? This is where people can drop off a firearmthat you possess that is inherited or simply, no longer in usage. That means that people can use a gun amnesty drive to drive away the worry of that weapon crashing into the wrong hands (Verbal Irony). Due to Gun laws in Canada, programs like the Gun Amnesty program in Toronto, and similar ones around the country are able to happen, which gives the police a chance to get ahead against criminals and gangs. Do listen though, the guns collected via these programs are not repurposed for the use of police officers, but are destroyed, ridding of anyway for the guns collected to be brought out onto the street. • 11. Harrison Bergeron An impartial society: Utopia or Hell? What would happen to the world if the people were literally equal in every aspect of their lives? In the futuristic short story, Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., the world is finally living up to America s first amendment of everyone being created equal. In this society, the gifted, strong, and beautiful are required to wear handicaps of earphones, heavy weights, and hideous masks, respectively. Thus, these constraints leave the world equal from brains to brawn to beauty. Born in 1899, she came to prominence in the late 50s, gaining renown for monochromatic structures built out of discarded wood. Critic Arthur C. Danto wrote, There could be no better word for how Nevelson composed her work than bricolage a French term that means making do with what is at hand. The poignancy of this girl s untimely death and the instant of life the Grave Stele captures are both magnified by the weight and constancy of the marble. By contrast, Nevelson achieves something like suppleness in Sky Cathedral by her use of multiple layers and multiple new spaces that emerge from different vantage points. From the Attic Greek to the Augustan age brings one to the Imperial Procession, located on the North frieze of the Ara Pacis Augustae (Fig. 4). The first two sculptures put into conversation with Sky Cathedral were mortuary, but the Imperial Procession is celebratory. The first two are both smaller than four feet, but the Procession is life sized, so its visual force is thus magnified. Finally, the individuals therein are not idealized types, in contrast to earlier Greek modes of statuary they naturalistic depictions of many actual people in the line of the Caesars. The Ara Pacis took four years to build, due to its desired scale and quality, and that scale points to a salient evolution from the Greeks to the Romans. Riegl claimed this vector went from what he call[ed] the haptic objectivism of the Greeks the delineation of the clarity of the object through an appeal to and a stimulation of the tactile associations of the viewer to the optical objectivism of Roman art, in which the need to set the figure up in space as radically ... • 14. The Main Causes Of The Woes Of Math Anxiety The Woes of Math Anxiety Math anxiety is the phenomenon that affects may people, causing them to feel anxiety or stress when faced with anything related to math. Math anxiety can potentially affect anyone with the condition at any point in their lives, but it is most prominent within the classroom, as that is when the math is the most stressful. Three of the main causes of math anxiety are: public exposure, the influence of teachers, and time deadlines (Curtain Phillips, 2017). Once the causes are fully understood, a method to overcome them can be created. Firstly, it is important to understand when someone is suffering from math anxiety. Some symptoms are: passive behavior, a feeling of being alone, a lack of confidence and panic during tests (Oxford 2017). ( In complete paragraph) Public exposure refers to a student being publicly wrong, such as when called upon a by a teacher to answer a question. This can lead to many students, especially those with math anxiety to not speak up during class as to not make a fool of themselves. Sometimes in even worse cases, a student has been reprimanded or scolded by a teacher in the past which would cause them to become weary or even scared of answering a question in class (Oxford 2017). The best way to overcome this issue would be with positive reinforcement. Placing great focus on their success while keeping criticisms of their failure constructive gives the student the message that it is ok to be wrong, as no one is correct every ... In the Ardennes Forest, the Americans were outnumbered five to one, and they were low on food and weapons, but they never gave in even though it would have been easy to do so. They held the line until help arrived. Another possible theme of the book is egotism. General Patton thought he was a better leader than any other military leader including his commander, General Omar Bradley, and the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe, General Dwight Eisenhower so he resented it when they gave him an order. People pay thousands to eliminate traits from their offspring, however are they really getting their money s worth if the gene is being avoided naturally. In the article The Threat Of Human Genetic Engineering by David King, states that, The main advantage of HGE is said to be the elimination of disease genes from a family. Yet in nearly all cases, existing technologies of prenatal and preimplantation genetic testing of embryos allow the avoidance of actual disease. There are only a few very rare cases where HGE is the only option. This illustrates how Human genetic engineering shows now benefits towards medicine and health. Scientist propose that we alter our genetic code through genetic engineering. We can remove genes we do not like and replace them with genes that carry our trait of choice. However what they don t considered is what mutations can occur down the bloodline, David King state s, Most scientists say that what is preventing them from embarking on HGE is the risk that the process will itself generate new mutations, which will be passed onto future generations. This furthers the point against human genetic engineering. With minimal research on the effects on genetic engineering there must be extensive research prior to implementation of genetic engineering, even though it s been around for some time with some restrictions. Of course this process of isn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Impact Of The Age Of Exploration The era known as the Age of Exploration, sometimes called the Age of Discovery, officially began in the early 15th century and lasted through the 17th century. The period is characterized as a time when Europeans began exploring the world by sea in search of new trading routes, wealth, and knowledge. The impact of the Age of Exploration would permanently alter the world and transform geography into the modern science it is today. THE BIRTH OF THE AGE OF EXPLORATION Many nations were looking for goods such as silver and gold, but one of the biggest reasons for exploration was the desire to find a new route for the spice and silk trades. When the Ottoman Empire took control of Constantinople in 1453, it blocked European access to the area, severely limiting trade. In addition, it also blocked access to North Africa and the Red Sea, two very important trade routes to the Far East. The first of the journeys associated with the Age of Discovery were conducted by the Portuguese. Although the Portuguese, Spanish, Italians and other had been plying the Mediterranean for generations, most sailors kept well within sight of land or traveled known routes between ports. Prince Henry the Navigator changed that, encouraging explorers to sail beyond the mapped routes and discover new trade routes to West Africa. Portuguese explorers discovered the Madeira Islands in 1419 and the Azores in 1427. Over the coming decades, they would push farther south along the African coast, reaching the ... I learned how to look at, analyze, and write a poem. My whole perception of poems changed, and I am really happy about it. Before this unit, I used to attach importance to only the meaning of the poems; however, right now, I can attach importance to more than one device in a poem, and use them in my own poems. We started this journey with writing only one stanza with three or four lines. I really liked these poems because they were short and effective. I didn t make an effort on trying to understand these poems, but they were really impressive for me. That was the reason why I included a short poem into my portfolio. I included one of the poems I wrote before to improve my usage of metaphors to my portfolio, it is called Art of Realization . This is a poem that tells about a person, who understands the magic of the books and sees the art behind them. I used the line I turned the thin skin of the dead tree, which symbolizes the pages of the book. I asked one of my friends to read my poem, and she said that she never thought the pages as thin skin of the dead tree . The former includes coverages of serious topics which are timely in orientation, while the latter is applied to matters of human interests, entertainment, sports, and similar subjects. In response to declining news readership, the fine lines between these two differing formats are being obscured as the more serious hard news would employ entertaining styles and the less serious soft news would inform in a traditional manner. Matthew Baum, in his commentary Soft News and Political Knowledge would later argue that Prior s findings of the absence of a measurable increase in factual political knowledge is an overly restrictive definition of learning and that it rather demonstrates the absence of long term retention of factual knowledge. Baum further presented evidences which speaks of an enhanced attainment of factual knowledge, at least in high profile issues and scandals from coverage of soft news. Activation of macrophages releases an array of mediators that regulate all aspect of host defense, inflammation and homeostasis [1]. In unremitting inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, persistent antigen stimulation resulted in macrophage dysfunction which leads to inflamed synovial membrane and joint destruction [2]. The presence of macrophages at the site of inflammationcan be further evident by elevated levels of macrophage derived inflammatory cytokines and mediators such as TNF О±, IL 1ОІ, IL 6 and COX 2 [3, 4]. This study aims to extend on previous research pertaining to working memory capacity, distractibility and pain perception. The objective of this study is to observe the effect distraction has on altering painperception relative to an individual s working memorycapacity. In this study we will utilize the operational span task (OSPAN) developed by Turner and Engle (1989) to split the participants into high and low working memory span groups dependent on their OSPAN scores. Participants will then engage in a simulated pain task under two conditions: distraction and no distraction. This study will include 40 participants; 20 in the low working memory span group and 20 in the high working memory span group. We expect that the low working memory span group will, on average, report higher pain ratings than the high working memory span group in the experimental (distraction) condition. We hope that this study will show that the inverse relationship between working memory and distractibility will have an effect on how people perceive pain. We hope that the current study will guide future research in exploring alternative non pharmacological methods to relieve pain. His integrity was the characteristic that allowed other men to follow him with a clean heart. His refusal to do what he knew to be wrong strengthened his role as a leader every time he exercised it. METHOD: An air hockey table was set up and a video camera on a tripod was placed over the air hockey table. The camera was positioned so it was directly above the air hockey table facing downwards. Another random error occurred in the first experiment where the red puck was initially held down to prevent it from moving and released when the black puck collided with it. Due to the person s reaction time, holding it in place may have interfered with the collision as it was an external force and this may have impacted upon the results. Several systematic occurred in this experiment, but the most important one would have been the fact that the air hockey table was not completely level. This impacted upon the experiment in two ways. In the first experiment where the red puck is initially stationary, as the table was not level it moved around before the black puck collided with it. To overcome this the red puck had to be held in place and as mentioned before this would have provided and external force acting upon the puck. The unevenness of the air hockey table also meant that there was a possibility of friction acting on the pucks while they were moving. In the third collision with the Velcro another systematic error occurred. When the two pucks collided and stuck together they did not continue straight, instead they rotated. Federal funding is critical because it can sustain long term high risk research and provide a collection of technical and human resources. The big question is whether such funding is justifiable. Theories of distributive justice seek to specify what is meant by a just distribution of goods among members of society (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy). • 46. The Effect Of Cost On The Profitability Of The Businesses... Introduction All businesses work with the main objective of making a profit. The determination of the profitability of the businesses will depend on the assessment of various factors of production as they contribute to the final income. The most primitive way of expressing the profit of a firm is through the subtraction of the costs from the revenues. Fixed cost is costs that are not changeable over a long period of time while the variable costs do change as time changes. Traditionally, the statement of accounts and profitability only took into consideration the interplay between the two factors costs and revenues. In this traditional statement, variable costs and fixed cost were treated similarly. The separation of the costs as either fixed cost or variable cost came into being with the advent of the margin statement. In simplest terms, contribution margin has been used to indicate the result of excess between the revenues and the variable costs. The contribution margin is therefore, an in depth statement of profit to take to account a lot of other financial variables in the like revenues, expenses, profits, and losses among others. Gross profit is a crude profit since it does not entirely belong to the company s revenue. These are some of the loopholes in the accounting that the contribution margin exists to seal and it does this through the consideration of net profit in the accounting period other than the gross profit. Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce their goods are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a tariff on imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of the steel import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. Plus, which jobs are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of the down stream users of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business owners and ourselves as the increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us, the consumer. The Argument for Tariffs Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on our economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade policy has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for import policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a result, domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective tariff raises revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the expense of foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from foreign exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. This money can then be used in domestic government policies and could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
