Border Wall Barriers
One of the most disastrous promise made by president Trump was the border wall between Mexico
and United States. President Trump s defense of his extreme policy was to control the illegal
immigration of many Mexican citizens into the United States. They Mexican public was very much
outraged by this decision and they were very disappointed at the part where President Trump
said,Mexico is going to pay for the wall. Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto showed this
disappointment by cancelling his appointment with Mr Trump. This initiative is crushing good cultural
and social relationships between two countries. This crushes the ancient cultures which survive near
the border of the two countries. President Trump s initiative of building a wall to divide U.S and
Mexico is negatively influencing the cultural relations between the government of the United States
and the Mexican government. This initiative may also cost United States one of its closest allies:
Mexico.
Author Felbab Brown explained in her article THE WALL:The real costs of a barrier between the
United States and Mexico that The border on which the wall is to be built cuts through ... tribal
homelands and separates tribal members from their relatives and their sacred sites, while also
sundering them from the natural environment which is crucial not just to their livelihoods but to their
cultural and religious identity (Felbab Brown, 2017). She claims that building a wall between the two
countries is going to

Explain Why I Want To Go To Mitty
I want to go to Mitty for many reason. Some reasons include the energetic and inclusive community,
amazing sports, and education programs. When I shadowed ar Mitty the community felt so inclusive
and alive. Everyone made me feel like I was one of the student too. I was able to shadow Mitty on the
spirit rally day, and it was amazing. I could see all of the enthusiasm and energy the student had and I
could see how much they loved Mitty. My shadow host really tried to include me in everything going
on. She and some of the students even taught me the sophomore cheer so that I could participate too.
Another thing I love about Mitty is the incredible sports program. While I was shadow I was able to
see all of the gyms and sports fields. I was

Capital Punishment In The Criminal Justice System
The primary purpose of the criminal justice system is to protect society. All features of the system;
detaining delinquents, trials, and punishments all have costs. Reduction in any part of the criminal
justice system can potentially result in a harmful society. The question most asked about the death
penalty is, Why should honest, hardworking taxpayers, have to pay for murderers for the rest of their
life instead of executing them? Actually the death penalty is the most expensive part off the system.
According to Dr. Ernest Gross, a Creighton University economics professor, who conducted a study in
August 2016, the death penalty cost an average 23.2 million more per year than alternative sentences
(Gross). The study found that states with the death penalty spend about 3.54% of overall state budgets
on court, corrections and other criminal justice functions associated with the death penalty, while
states without the death penalty spend about 2.93% on those functions (Gross). The death penalty is
more expensive than life without parole because the constitution requires an extensive and complex
judicial process for capital crimes. This is to ensure that innocent men and women are not executed for
crimes they did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on The Second Vatican Council
The Second Vatican Council
The Second Vatican Council, or Vatican II as it is often called, was an Ecumenical Council, (which
means it affected the worldwide Christian community) of the Roman Catholic Church. It began on
October 11, 1962 under, Pope John XXIII with over two thousand attendants (Hollis 23). The council
ended on December 8, 1965, with Pope Paul VI presiding over the council due to the death of Pope
John XXIII in 1963. The council consisted of four different sessions convening in the fall of the four
years during which the council took place. Topics discussed and debated throughout the council were
issues concerning the church, the liturgy, revelation and scripture, and the clergy.

Until Vatican II the Church was split into may different factions and each was set in its own belief that
they were the one true church. After the council however, compromises and cooperation began to
develop between the many denominations toward building the Christian community as a whole.
Official documents concerning the liturgy and social communication were adopted during this session.
The third session began on September 14, 1964 and ended on November 21, 1964 (Rynne 291). A
select few religious and lay women were invited to this third session in order to incorporate different
sections of the church. Ecumenism, Eastern Rite churches, and the constitution of the Church,
missions, and ministries of priests were such topics discusses during this period. The fourth and last,
period began on September 14, 1965 and ended on December 8, 1965 (Rynne 450). Issues considered
during this period included education, laity (distinguished people not of the clergy), bishops, and
religious orders. At the close of the council, the pope declared a jubilee, and asked Catholics to read
and study the constitutions and decrees of the council and apply them to their spiritual lives.
Changes occurred in various categories throughout the whole council. One of the more dramatic
changes that occurred in the church, is the vernacular used during mass. Until Vatican II, the mass had
been traditionally spoken in Latin, but afterwards was allowed to be spoken in the

Americans Have A Different Attitude Summary
In her article, Americans Have a Different Attitude , the author Yen Le Espiritu presents the issue of
immigrant groups, such as the Filipinos as viewing the United States as in immoral and untraditional
state that has lost sense of it s moral values. The author begins narrating the responses she got from
interviews she conducted within the Filipino community, located in San Diego, California. Many of
these Filipino homes live their lives through the scope of the Filipino Way , which unlike Americans,
means that they value their families, hard work, commitment, marriage and purity through sexual
desires. Yen Le explains her findings and continue explaining how there were commonly found

However, I feel I can relate a bit to this article. I come from a christian home and have a mixed
heritage between Mexican and Cuban culture. Both of these cultures systematically oppress the female
group into this typical, household wife, that needs to stay inside the home, cook dinner, prepare the
meals for this husband and basically become submissive to her counterpart. Girls had to dress a certain
way, they were strictly forbidden to have sex outside of marriage or face the harsh harassment from
other people, they have curfews as compared to the guys, they couldn t be late out at night, they had to
do all domestic work, and could never be alone with boys or else they were considered a cualquiera ,
which translates to slut. As a male, I feel too many burdens have been given to women in securing the
family s legacy and reputation. I strongly feel that men should also be taken into consideration, not
just women. Men also lose their virginity and parents also need to be a bit more stricter on the males.
If not that, then it isn t fair for just the women to have limited decisions in their

My Long-Term Goal
My second goal specifically is to get a position in the human resources department with my current
employer within the next six months. Gaining a position in the human resources department puts me
one step closer to achieving my long term goal of becoming a human resource manager. The goal is
measurable because I plan to apply to any position I see posted in the human resources department
that interest me and align with my professional goals. The goal is attainable because I have access to
our job postings website and I plan to check this website for updates at least twice per week. This is a
reasonable goal because I sometimes have downtime at work, which would allow me to use that time
to search for new postings and even apply. This goal is time bound because I gave myself a deadline
of six months to achieve it. With my updated resume, experience and now my current course of study
at Western Governors University, it makes me a desirable candidate for a position in HR.

I plan to develop a time table and lay out exactly how my week will go each week so that I can stay on
track. I plan to decrease the amount of time I spend on activities such as social media and watching
television so that I can dedicate more time to achieving this goal. Basically, this goal is all about
managing my time appropriately and that is what I plan to do. I plan on scheduling my day
accordingly as if I had a physical class to go to and use that time to study and complete assignments.
Another action that I plan on taking toward this goal is to take my work with me everywhere,
including vacations. I take time off regularly for family vacations and just quality family time but
because of this challenging goal, I must sacrifice some of that time. I see it as a short term sacrifice
that those who care about my success will

Psychological vs Ethical Egoism Essay
Psychological Egoism and Ethical Egoism: A Comparison
Abstract
There is a certain innate desire to help others, just as others will feel that same fulfillment for returning
that aid. At the same time, however, there is also an inherent yearning to seek out one s own best
interest. This brings about a discussion regarding the difference between psychological egoism and
ethical egoism. To understand the similarities and differences, one must first understand the two
concepts including their natures, as well as their doctrines of motivation.

70) . Behind every action that a person makes is an underlying question about what that person will
get out of the action. According to Rachels, however, this remains an issue of human psychology as
opposed to being one of ethics. That being said, psychological egoism does have serious costs for
human morality. Should psychological egoism actually be correct, then it would mean that all of
society is composed of selfish individuals who care only for their own gain; it would therefore be
fruitless to discuss what people should be doing. On the other hand, ethical egoism is a theory that
prescribes moral obligation, where all people should be motivated out of self interest (Rachels, 2003,
p. 70). This means that every person ought to act in a way that is best for him/herself. Ethical egoism
claims that it is moral for all of an individual s actions to be based on self interest, without concerning
him/herself with the interests of others. In fact, this thought may be continued by stating that altruism
is, therefore, personally hindering and even demeaning (Brink, 1997, p. 122). Hence, ethical egoism
must consequently mean that actions taken in an individual s self interest are moral actions, and
actions taken that are not self beneficial to an individual are immoral and should, as a result, be
avoided. Ethical egoism is typically broken down into two categories: strong and weak. The strong
version of ethical egoism centers on the idea that it

Overview of Breast Cancer Essay
If you or a loved one were diagnosed with breast cancer, how would you feel? You would probably
feel very afraid and worried. Breast cancer is a common and potentially deadly form of cancer that
affects both men and women. There are risk factors for getting the disease and there are different types
of treatment for people who have been diagnosed with the disease. There are also steps that people can
take to try to prevent getting breast cancer or at least catch it early. Luckily there are many
organizations working to raise awareness of the disease, to educate the public about it, and to support
research about it. Breast cancer is a kind of cancer that begins in breast cells. Breast cancer can be

More than 2.9 million U.S. women with a history of breast cancer were alive on January 1, 2012.
There are some known risk factors for developing breast cancer. Women are at a higher risk than men.
Older women are at an increased risk, as most new cases and most deaths occurred in women over the
age of 50. There may be a genetic risk for some people; however, most breast cancer is not hereditary.
However, if a person has had breast cancer once they are more likely to develop it again. Other risk
factors include having very dense breast tissue, beginning menstruating before age 12, going through
menopause after age 55, being overweight, using hormone replacement therapy during menopause,
not having any children, or having your first child after the age of 35. While there is no absolute way
to prevent getting breast cancer, there are some things a woman can do to lower her risk of getting it.
First, she should limit the amount of alcohol she drinks. Next, she should not smoke cigarettes. Third,
she should lose weight if they need to, as being overweight or obese increases the risk of breast
cancer. Fourth, she should exercise regularly. Exercising can help maintain a healthy weight which
helps prevent breast cancer. Getting regular medical care and examining her body for symptoms of
breast cancer are also important. Women should examine their own breasts for the signs of breast
cancer regularly. Women should also have a

Historical Context Of Le Corbusier
When considering the cultural and social aspects of a building, one must study the historical context of
its construction. In the 1920 s, European architecture was beginning to integrate traditional elements
with the new social demands for modern technology. Although many architects and engineers were
involved, Le Corbusier was the French architect who people today believe led this architectural
revolution in Europe. Few are aware of the fact that Pierre Chareau also played a significant role in
this modernist movement. Originally a furniture designer, the Maison de Verre was his first full scale
architectural project. Doctor Jean Dalsace and his wife Annie commissioned Chareau to design their
home and kept a binding friendship throughout and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you walk through the typical Parisian entrance door of 31 Rue Saint Guillaume in the stylish sixth
arrondissement of Paris, you find yourself standing in front of a large glass box. Although one could
argue that the Maison de Verre is an interruption in the continuity of the Haussmannian buildings of
the neighbourhood, it is still hidden away and shielded from the public eye. It may look like the odd
one out, but it reflects the personality of Chareau himself as many architects today consider him as an
outsider . It must be remembered that the Maison de Verre, although an overall individual achievement
in the eyes of modern architecture, was a collaboration between Pierre Chareau and Bernard Bijvoet, a
contemporary Dutch architect who kept a low and modest profile in relation to the buildings he
contributed to. In addition, the skilled metalworker and craftsman Louis Dalbet contributed to the
fabrication of the mechanical toys. Although it received initial criticism for its controversial nature,
the Maison de Verre is a unique and significant contribution to 20th century architecture. Since its
construction, the Maison de Verre has proven to be a touchstone for architects throughout the world,
including Richard Rogers, Renzo Piano, Jean Nouvel, Glenn Murcutt and many others

Music Is A Central Part Of Most Adolescent Lives
Music is a central part of most adolescent lives. In todays society music is a part of everyone s daily
activities. Certain genres contain frequent references to sex, drugs, and violence. Certain genres
receive their fair share of bad media including crime. Everyone knows that music all by itself can have
an effect on people but when music is influencing crime into their lyrics it becomes an interest and
concern for society in general. During the past few decades, music has become increasingly explicit
with its references to sex, drugs, and violence. Many people have been shaped by it in different ways.
Throughout the years music has changed the way its influenced people. Some people listen to music

Yet it is still well received and becoming very popular in todays society. Now a days you can influence
anyone through media, whether it is music or even a music video Anyone can agree that the use of
violence in music today is much more prominent than it was many years ago. The Music genre I m
going to focus on is Hip Hop or Rap. My Hypothesis is to compare music from the 1970 s to the 2000
s and prove that Hip Hop is more likely to talk about drugs, sex, and violence in the 2000 s versus the
1970 s and how strong of an influence it has on society. The theory I decided to go with on this
research project is the Cultivation Theory Which argues media shapes a persons sense of reality
because many acquire information through mediated sources rather than direct experience, their world
view becomes influenced by these sources. For example people who would be defined as heavy Hip
Hop listeners can react to certain situations more violently than they would of without having all the
emotional influence from violent hip hop songs. So I want to see if Hip Hop can really be influenced
to commit crimes and live the same type of way they hear through a song or treat people the way they
hear through a song. Or basically do listeners cultivate or adopt beliefs about the world that coincide
with messages they have been hearing. In the 1970 s the Hip Hop culture began in the streets of New
York City. One of the first entrepreneurs of Hip Hop was a man by the name of Kool DJ Herc. In

Roller coasters have been around for a long time and gotten more fascinating over time. Russian ice
slides are where roller coasters have originated from. They were made in the 1800 s and were 70 80
tall. They called them sliding hills and were used for entertainment. The Russians were bored and
needed something fun to do. They would have gone sledding but the Russian lands did not have very
many hills. They created tall wooden structures and sprayed them with water. The water turned to ice

Roller coasters don t have engines. They have to use chains and gravity. Its cheaper and more
efficient. If they had engines they would have to carry the engine and battery up each slope. It would

requires less energy than putting a battery and engine on each cart. On roller coasters you will

In Mill s Utilitarianism, he argues that the principle of utility is the foundation of all morality. In other
words, the greatest happiness principle says to choose the decision or action that in return creates the
greatest amount of happiness for all that that are involved. He says that every other principle we
follow are principles that we take into our lives based on the fact that they will hopefully help us to
better or quantify our happiness. Abortion satisfies John Stuart Mill s description of Utilitarianism.
Women get abortions for a variety of different reasons. Different reasons for getting an abortion range
from health concerns and rape, to simply not being ready to take on the responsibility of having,
providing, and taking care of another life. Whatever the reason may be, abortion is not wrong.
According to Utilitarianism, one should do what will make them and everyone around them the
happiest. Now, one could argue that having an abortion may make the other people around the women
unhappy. The simple reply to this is that a women s decision to have an abortion has nothing to do
with other people. Other people will not be going through the pregnancy and will not have to take care
of another human life. Just because one doesn t agree with a women s decision to have an abortion
does not mean that the decision to have an abortion will make other peoples lives unhappy.

The Top Competitors Of Drucker And Falk
Zakch, M. H. (1999) says that always building on the latest knowledge, rather than reinventing the

for the knowledge that they possess, but the confidence of the firm truly blossoms as well. Drucker

The Black Religious Community, Gospel ( Christian ) Rap
To an entire segment of the Black religious community, Gospel (Christian) Rap has found its way to
the footsteps of the church. The rapid emergence of this music and its subculture has left the church
and clergy alike asking the question why? Especially since much of what I would call secular Rap is
off the hook these days. How so, do you ask? There is a surplus of gratuitous violence, and sexually
explicit Rap lyrics, that currently ride the airwaves and is uploaded into countless IPODs, MP3s, and
Myspace.com websites. And what should we say about the continual overexposure and repetitious
degradation of young Black women, half naked in booty shorts; subliminally suggesting to many that
to treat all women like bitches and hoe s is ok. It also seems to promote a certain image of street

there is a meaning in life at all, then there must be a meaning in suffering. From my experiences of

Virtual Reality
The History and Use of Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality is seen as a new technology that is starting to take off. However, that is not the case, as
virtual reality is older than the average college student. In 1957 a man named Morton Heilig invented
a device called the Sensorama . Morton Heilig s device, consisted [of] the following elements: A
viewing screen within an enclosed booth which displayed stereoscopic images. Oscillating fans. Audio
output (speakers). [and] Devices which emitted smells (Virtual Reality, 2016). Morton s device is
much different than what one expects when they hear virtual reality, but that is where the idea started
at. Now, when thinking of virtual reality, someone imagines a headset that hooks up to an electronic
device and encompasses the user into a virtual world. Well, the headset style device was invented in
1968 when Ivan Sutherland created a head unit; however, it was so heavy that it was meant to be
suspended and the user would place their head inside. The head unit connected to a computer and set
the user to that virtual world people have come to expect. In the 1980 s companies like NASA started
to dabble into the virtual reality to, research into new forms of human computer interaction (HCI)

popularity sky rocketed in the 1990 s. There was buzz surrounding what this new technology could

Symbolism In A Hanging By George Orwell
By examining George Orwell s short story, A Hanging, one can see that the symbolism of the
unexpected canine, and the symbolic action of stepping around a puddle can illustrate the importance
of each individual life. To start off, it is evident in the story that the presence of an animal was not a

The realization of the catastrophic deeds being carried through to be rid those full, healthy lives
reinstated the narrator s morality for that short period of time. The immediate transition of thoughts is
clearly demonstrated when the narrator states, It is curious, but till that moment I had never realized
what it means to destroy a healthy, conscious man. When I saw the prisoner step aside to avoid the
puddle, I saw the mystery, the unspeakable wrongness, of cutting a life short when it is in full tide
(Orwell 2). If it were not for the prisoner caring about such a miniscule act, the sensitization towards
the prejudice murders being committed would not have occurred as strongly to the narrator. The
unspeakable wrongness of cutting a life short when it is in full tide developed his understanding of the
wrongdoing behind the negative imperialistic environment that surrounds him. This emphasizes to the
reader how a slight reaction that is often dismissed, can symbolize the deeper value of a healthy,
conscious man having enough dignity left to avoid such a small mishap like stepping in a

Police Brutality And Police Brutality
The law of this world tells one to get rich but kills you when you try to make ends meet, one is told to
stand up straight and be loud but sets your skin against you when your pride gets a little too loud. Over
the past decade, police brutality has been an extremely controversial issue as it is a serious violation of
the basic human and civil rights of American citizens. These actions of severe beatings, fatal chokings,
and unjustified shootings have caused an outburst from the minority communities which has made it
easy for many to be fooled through the language of persuasion. In the haze of these atrocities,
movements like Black Lives Matter have successfully used the hate and fear that African Americans

A Report On Tick Tock
Tick Tock
1 Every day brings a new surprise and this day sure brought a good one. The thing that I dealt 1with
that day was something I never would imagine happening to me or anyone in a million years. I
2 was home with just my two brothers. It was an ordinary summer afternoon. The wind blowing, the
3birds tweeting. Not a problem in sight. Until I took a short nap and rose a few hours later. My eyes
4quickly opened to a vexatious sound. A continues ticking which messed with my head. Tick tock
5tick tock over and over again. I took a deep breath and calmed down for a second. Then, the
6monstrous noise hit me again. I couldn t take it anymore. I got up off of the bed and intensely ran

30Ignoring Wade once again, I hustled down the stairs. I expeditiously left my house, slamming 31the
door behind me. Out in my dad s garage, I grabbed a hammer and then dumped the bag of 32watches
out on the floor. I deathly gripped the hammer and smashed each watch one by one. After I 33had
finished, I piled the watch scraps back in the bag and grabbed a shovel. I ran to the side of the 34house
and dug a small hole where I buried each and every watch. After I was done, I returned my 35items
and went back inside and I swear that the ticking went away for a few minutes, but the 36moments of
glory didn t last long. Suddenly, the deplorable sound started again. I cringed. I took a 37deep breath
and thought for a second. Then, something in my kitchen caught my eye. A clock. 38How could I not
know that a clock in the house was making the noise! Relief struck me like 39lightning, powerfully
and quickly. I skedaddled and grabbed the clock I had originally spotted. After, 40I collected the few
other clocks that hung in my house. Once more, I flew out the door to get the 41hammer. Just like
before, I smashed each clock to its death. Just like you do to people, I buried the 42clocks right by the
watches I earlier put in the ground. When I walked back, I had high hopes that 43the ticking would be

Entity Relationship Diagrams
An entity relationship diagram is the basic design model for any database. It is the major deliverable
for a conceptual database design. It is the logical organization of any data in the database and is
usually made up of three components namely; entities, attributes and relationships. Entities are the
major categories of data in the database and are usually represented by rectangles. Attributes are the
characteristics of the entities and are usually written in the rectangle. Relationships are the connections
between entities and are usually represented using lines joining the rectangles. Entities that share
major characteristics are known as entity types, and are also referred to as classes. An entity instance
is the individual occurrence of one entity type. It is important to define entity types as it makes it
easier to determine the requirements of the database and how it will be structured.
In defining an attribute, the analyst must state the importance of the attribute, the value of the attribute
and whether the value of this attribute can change. When drawing an entity relationship diagram, the
analyst must be aware of the following types of attributes; multi valued attributes, required attributes,
optional attributes, composite attributes and derived attributes. When showing relationships, an
analyst must be aware of three types of relationships; unary (between instances of one entity type),
binary (between instances of two entity types), and ternary (between

educational settings. In comparison to all three articles were written with a different purpose in mind,
with all three connecting to the same theme, How does faculty play a role in the development of the

Othello Quote Analysis
To some people, power is authority, and to some, it is capability. To all, it is a metaphorical concept
that is individually assigned by one s own view of a situation. George R.R. Martin targeted this
concept precisely in A Clash of Kings when he wrote, Power resides where men believe it resides. No
more and no less. This quote ties in nicely to Othello by William Shakespeare. Power seems to be a
relevant theme in this story, although the question of who help the power is also very prominent. The
insightful quote from Martin helps us determine this. To defend this quote with evidence from Othello,
one must first understand how to obtain power , then understand why the characters thought Othello
was the one in power, furthermore, one may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Authority Control
Authority control is a method of controlling and limiting where the object in the catalogue gets
shelved under, and what terminology can be used to search for said objects. There are two types of
authority control for this database and those are name and subject.
Now, name authority control is generally used for large collections, to narrow a search or when there
are too many subject terms to search by. To use name authority, it identifies the object in the collection
by its title, publisher or even the author(s). Name authority allows them to be able to locate objects
with ease, so that they can spend more time on other things. For example, if there is more than one
object with similar titles or authors.
To use subject authority control for paranormal romance is about using terms such as magicks or
mythology to represent where the objects should be shelved or grouped under. The authority control
allows the objects to be found with ease in different sections for them to locate which subgenre or
subject within paranormal romance that is desired. For example, under the authority control (subject)
the term mythology one would find Demons which can be found in numerous cultures, or Valkyrie
that come from Norse mythology. It is a broad search, with many results because objects can contain

Describe The Symptoms Of Dyslexia
3. List and describe the symptoms of dyslexia. When a child has problems on reading, we can
conclude that s/he may get dyslexia. Dyslexia is the most common learning disability. One of the
reasons that make dyslexia hard to be diagnosed is lack of the single test to accurately predict if a
child gets dyslexia or not, since every child has different developing pace. For instance, some children
have problems on speaking out words, but s/he can remember other more complicated things. People
used to think that visual difficulty is the reason of dyslexia. However, people now that dyslexia was
generated by both speech and hearing difficulties. Even though there was not single test to diagnoses
dyslexia, if a child still unable to speak at 3 years old, then parents should aware of dyslexia. Dyslexia
does not only happen among children, it bothers adults as well. For preschoolers, when they appear
language developmental delay, it means that they are facing dyslexia. Language developmental delay
includes whole bunch of small factors. First, when a child cannot pronounce words clearly, then this is
the sign of dyslexia. Second, when a child shows delay compared to his or her peers on speaking, this

Hiv Aids And Hiv And Aids
HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus (Avert). It is virus that attacks the immune system, our
body s defense against disease (Avert). Individuals who become infected with HIV will find it harder
to fight infections (Avert). HIV is located in semen, blood, vaginal and anal fluids, and breast milk
(HIV and Aids). The most common method to become infected is through anal or vaginal sex without
a condom (HIV and Aids). Other forms of contraction include using infected needles/ syringes, from
mother to child during pregnancy, or breastfeeding (HIV and Aids). If left untreated, AIDS can evolve,
this is when a person s immune system becomes too weak to fight infection and can no longer defend
itself (What is AIDS). Despite there not being a cure, an early diagnosis and effective treatment can
enable people to live a normal, healthy life (HIV and Aids). This paper will focus on the HIV
epidemic. It will compare and contrast HIV in the United States and in Kenya. The paper will review
the specific populations affected, testing and counseling centers, funding and economic impact, and
prevention programs each country is executing.
The HIV epidemic affects specific populations more than others (Avert). The following statistics show
the percentages of new HIV infections in the United States, in the year 2013, unless otherwise noted
(Avert). Men who have sex with men (MSM) accounted for 68% of infections (Avert). Black/African
Americans accounted for 46% of infections (Avert).

The commodification of water throughout history has had substantial impacts the way we live our

This theory of dilution is the solution to pollution worked for a little while but as population grew and
the demand for freshwater for humans consumption increased as well Americans learn quickly that
this theory was incorrect. The change of heart on this method was highlighted in a court case in New

Allusions Of Allusions In Blake s The Garden Of Love
Short exercise paper #1 Blake s lyrical poem The Garden of Love contains several allusions that
reference the first book in the Bible Genesis . During this paper, I will be discussing one instance
where Blake s poem alludes to Genesis 3. To summarize, there are several instances in which Blake s
poem The Garden of Love alludes to Genesis, of these I chose to focus on the chapel built in the midst
and its connection to Eve s interaction with the Serpent.
Blake s poem begins with the speaker visiting the Garden of Love during which they discover, A
chapel was built in the midst. The speaker points out that this chapel is built/where I used to play all of
this happens during the first stanza. The speaker does not indicate they watched the chapel built in
fact; the speaker almost seems shocked by its presence, saw what I had never seen and it becomes
clear whatever this chapel is it has altered how the speaker will continue to interact with the garden,
built in the midst/where I used to play on the green . It is important to realize this chapel not only
altered the garden itself, but also, has essentially replaced the green so; instead of play, there is this
chapel .
During the third book of Genesis, a dialogue happens concerning Eve and the Serpent. The Serpent
questions Eve about the garden to which she replies, We may eat of the fruit of the trees...But of the
fruit of the tree which is in the midst...Ye shall not eat...lest ye die (Genesis 3:3). To

Graphic Violence In Quentin Tarantino
Graphic violence is an inescapable and ubiquitous characteristic of contemporary cinema (Prince 1).
This quote by Stephen Prince in his book Graphic Violence in the Cinema: Origins, Aesthetic Design,
and Social Effects almost perfectly embodies the spirit of Quentin Tarantino movies. Although most
movies contain some sort of violence, Tarantino involves it in a way like no other filmmaker; it is
described as an adrenaline shot as well as keeping humor a part of the violence. Unlike classical films,
Quentin Tarantino holds nothing back in showing gore and blood, all the while using it as a narrative
device throughout the film.
As the adrenaline shot was punched into Mia Wallace s chest by Jules in Tarantino s movie Pulp
Fiction, audiences were transitioned from an almost stressful and melancholy scene to being thrown
into the blatant violence of the adrenaline shot being punched into Mia s chest. This is where
Tarantino s adrenaline shot was originally coined. Tarantino is defined as using his adrenaline shot by
having an almost ordinary scene be quickly cut to short scenes of violence. For example, in Pulp
Fiction, he uses it for the scene when Buck goes back to his house to get his watch and finds Jules in
the house with him. The scene goes quickly from Jules walking out of the bathroom, to the toaster
pastry jumping out of the toaster, to Buck massacring Vincent with his Uzi machine gun. This how a
prime example of how Tarantino depicts violence in his movies.

Pros And Cons Of Therapeutic Robots
Medical technology has evolved, starting from the nineteenth century to further development of the
medical technologies such as the diagnostic technology now being able to find the diagnosis of the
patient by automatically recording the data of the illness. Doctors and other health professions are now
able to prevent illnesses from getting worse; the evolvement of medical technology has further
allowed us to help diminish certain health illness(es). For example, the therapeutic robots have been
developed to help treat illnesses such as dementia but further studies have proven that therapeutic
robots can do so much more. Therapeutic robots are robots used for companionship and therapy; it is a
robotic pet such as an otter, cat, seal, and/or dog that operates like a real pet to help someone s health
issue. Yet, therapeutic robots are seen as controversial since many people view therapeutic robots as a
way of raising ethical concerns since they believe that therapeutic robots can eventually replace
humans. Although therapeutic robots such as PARO are viewed as harmful, they are beneficial to the
society because it can help diminish dementia, has a psychological effect on patients, improves the
socialization, and treats depression and alzheimer s.
PARO is a therapeutic robot used as a medical device in hospitals and nursing homes for patients with
severe health illnesses that has been around since 2004. As claimed by the PARO website, PARO is an

With so many moving components, it is hard to know what trouble signs to look out for. One part that
you may be ignoring is the transmission, which actually needs the fluids to be flushed from time to
time. Here are some signs it is time to put in new transmission fluid.
The Fluid Changed Color
Chances are that you have never seen your transmission fluid. The fluid is typically a bright red color,

The gears should not be hesitating when switching between them, or slipping down into a lower gear
for a brief moment.
Dirty transmission fluid can cause various problems, such as there being a notable delay when
accelerating. The car could have problems when changing gears when you get on the freeway or when
you are accelerating quickly and the RPMs are quite high.
Ignoring these issues could cause damage to your vehicle s transmission. Avoid an expensive repair by
having the fluid flushed out at the first sign of any of these problems.
You ve Driven the Car A Lot
Much like the oil for your engine, transmission fluid also requires regular flushing based on how many
miles you have driven. Every car manufacturer will recommend changing the transmission fluid after
a specific amount of miles, which caries from vehicle to vehicle. It is common to replace transmission
fluid between 24,000 and 30,000 miles, and if you do not drive that many miles, then after 2 years.
Don t make the mistake of waiting until your transmission fails to have it looked at. Being aware of
these three problems will help keep your car running smoothly. If you ever have doubts about
something off your transmission is doing, do not hesitate to take your car to a local mechanic to have

Pessimism In Clocks And Lovers By W. H. Auden
The world is full of optimistic people who have plenty of hope for the future, but it is also full of
pessimists who are there to bring those optimists back to earth. In Clocks and Lovers by W. H. Auden,
the clocks are the pessimists and the lover is the optimist. By using exaggerations and personification,
Auden contrasts the two personalities with an interesting twist. The optimistic lover floats high above
the clouds in a daydream of his own, saying his love will never end, while the clocks, or pessimists,
constantly remind him of reality. While the lover is under the illusion that love outlasts time, the
omniscient clocks ruin his fantasy with the reality that Time will always win in the end. W. H. Auden

W. H. Auden also uses personification with the lover in the fifth stanza, And the seven stars go
squawking / Like geese about the sky. These two lines are a simile as well as personification, but the
lover is still using personification to show his undying love toward his beloved. Later in the poem,
after the clocks have discouraged the lover with their harsh reality, the lover describes a glacier
knocking in the cupboard, a desert sighing in the bed, and a crack in the tea cup that opens up a lane to
the land of the dead. This stanza depicts part of an old and broken down house that is a symbol for his
dried out love. With the personification of the glacier and the desert, Auden gives the reader an idea of
a trapped glacier and a worn out desert that circles back to the love the lover used to have. At this
point, the clock s predictions have come true and the lover s love has dried out, just like the desert
mentioned in the poem. The glacier knocking in the cupboard represents the lover s trapped state in
the love he has promised would be forever. The clocks also use exaggeration to drive their point home.
By using hyperboles to push their reminder of death farther than is needed, the clocks force their point
into the lover s mind. The clocks remind the lover O let not time deceive you,

Tea Party Dbq
The Boston Tea party helped repeal tax on tea and made a stand on the British. But was it necessary?
When thinking of the Boston Tea party, tea being dumped into a river or an ocean comes to mind. But
there is so much more than that. The questions that should come to mind are; was it necessary, who
and how it was organized, what effects did it have on the British East India Company and on the

The British taxed American colonist on many things, including sugar, paper, lead, and paint. But their
biggest mistake was passing the tax on tea. In the year of 1773, the Tea Act was passed. The Boston

The Issue Of The Second Amendment
The Second Amendment is one of the most controversial amendments in today s society. There are
commonly two sides that fight with each other over the definition of this amendment. The pro gun, or
what is commonly referred to as gun nuts , have the firm belief that the American people have the
right to not only carry a gun, but to carry any type of gun that they want, while anti gun groups want
to get rid of the right to carry a gun all together unless that person is a soldier or police officer. The
part of the Second Amendment that is quoted by both sides is always A well regulated militia being
necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be
infringed . Did you know that there are actually two versions used by the federal and state
government? The only difference is the punctuation. Congress passed, A well regulated Militia, being
necessary to the security of a free Sate, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed . The States ratified what Congress had passed to, A well regulated militia being necessary to
the security of a Free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed . Do
the differences in punctuation and capitalization change the meaning? Many people believe that the
Second Amendment means that only the military should have the right to carry guns. They believe that
A well regulated militia is referring to trained soldiers, when in fact, the Second

Analyzing The African Art Galleries On The Metropolitan...
This paper will be describing and analyzing the African Art Galleries in the Metropolitan Museum of
Art. The galleries that will be critiqued in this paper are 350, 351, and 352. Gallery 350 (Samuel H.
and Linda M. Lindenbaum Gallery) is an averaged size rectangular room that spans about the length
of a sidewalk. The gallery contains several carved wooden sculptures, primarily located in the center
of the gallery that immediately take over upon entering. While most objects are not enclosed in cases
and are instead freestanding, some works such as the Senufo Face Mask are not freestanding and are
supported by a wall in a case allowing for frontal viewing. The Bozo door has a slight relief and can
be viewed frontally as it hangs on the wall. Some freestanding works are displayed in cases that are
built into the walls of the gallery, which limits the individual s ability to view the work all the way
around. Though external lights bring some brightness into the gallery, they seem to add a muted sepia
tone to the room. In the cases against the walls, the lights are installed in the panels above the pieces
in order to provide an even distribution of light amongst all of the work. In the entire gallery, the lights
are scattered on the ceiling and angled in a way to provide light on each sculpture. The sculptures are
arranged in a geographical manner since most of the items are from the people of Mali and Côte D
ivoire . In this gallery, the pieces are also grouped in a

The Feasibility of Adding Alternative Fuel Vehicles to the...
Adding Alternative Fuel Vehicles to Lotus Rental Car In an effort to bring down the gasoline cost for
his fleet, Lotus Car s Chief Financial Officer is looking at the possibility of adding alternative fuel
vehicles to its fleet. To make a sound decision, she decided to hire a consultant firm that would review
and determine if implementing the addition of alternative vehicles would benefit the company. By
performing thorough research, the consultants will first perform a comparison between gas vehicles
and alternative fuel vehicles. The consultant will then determine the advantages and disadvantages of

Who knows, maybe in 10 years, we could actually look into the sky and see a brighter day. Hybrid
vehicles are striking the scene in a positive way. They are becoming the choice vehicle for many
buyers. Hybrids are fashionable in both style and status. With more consumers being focused on the
ongoing problem of air pollution, it is not a surprise they are drawn to hybrid vehicle models (Why
Hybrids are the vehicles of choice these days, n.d). Hybrids are easier on the environment as well as
one s wallet. The fact that they are designed to be kind to the environment is getting the attention of
many consumers, businesses and governments. The hybrid car is something of mixed origin or
composition by definition. A hybrid vehicle is one that functions with the use of both gasoline engine
and electric engine. The gasoline engine is smaller than conventional vehicles, allowing the electric
motor to compensate with energy. A high voltage battery charges the electric motor when the car is
parked. The hybrid vehicles can be operated using either of the engines or both at the same time.
Therefore, it uses less gas. Hybrids also offer a quiet ride. Many people purchased hybrid cars to save
money from the increasingly high price of gasoline. As the cost of gas increases so does the demand
on hybrid vehicles. Although

Life Is A Game Of Chance
Jews were beaten and killed for no reason. Jews during that time were no longer regarded as full
citizens, they were victims. There were several times that Vladek mentioned that God never came.
Vladek s experiences in the camp show how many Jews must have felt at that time that they were
abandoned by their God. Art Spiegelman is suggesting that life is a game of chance, or rather a series
of events that are fated or at least influenced by a divine power. Life is governed solely by chance and
why, during the Holocaust, some people survived while others did not. When Spiegelman is looking
for answers, and talks to his therapist it reinforces this idea Yes, life always takes the side of life, and
somehow the victims are blamed. But it wasn t the best people who survived, nor did the best ones
die. It was random! (45) Pavel reminds us that those who survived were not necessarily the most
deserving. That can only increase the guilt that the survivors felt, who may have felt they had no right
to survive when more deserving people died. I believe that this is both a negative and positive
message. Spiegelman shows that during the Holocaust it didn t matter if you were rich, poor, and
successful or not you could easily be put to your death. Typically death is fairly random and so is
survival, but with the Holocaust instead of being random, groups were targeted. Religion attempts to
make sense out of the world around us, finding order and meaning in our lives. Nothing shakes the

How Does Separation Of Powers Dominate Parliament
The British uncodified constitution is not a single document but is comprised of several discrete bills.
The constitution is essentially a set of the Most Important Rules with the primary purpose of
regulating how the nation should be run. It additionally grants power to the law maker, which is
Parliament (House of Commons, House of Lords, and the Monarch).
This essay will explore the extent of legislative power Parliament holds, specifically examining the
concept of Parliamentary sovereignty, the separation of powers and Dicey s rule of law. However,
there is a school of thought that Devolution can undermine Parliaments supremacy, despite this it will
be argued that within the UK constitution Parliament does have unlimited legislative ... Show more

Since, Devolution has led to a persistent demand for the transfer of more legislative power to
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, thwarting the flexibility and function of Westminster s
Parliament. It is most useful to discuss the Scotland act because the Scottish Parliament has the
greatest delegated power including the power to pass primary legislation. Lord Cooper argues that
Parliamentary Sovereignty is not a principle that exists in the Scottish Parliament. It is a statutory rule
that where a subject matter has been devolved to another Parliament or is not a reserved matter such as
education and health, then Westminster cannot usually legislate on that matter in the absence of
consent of the Scottish Parliament . The Sewel convention makes that clear and suggests how
devolved matters could limit Westminster, however in the Scotland act it is stated that this will not
affect Parliament s legislative powers. In addition, Ministerial appointments in Scotland still need
approval by the Queen in Parliament. Possibly showing how the Westminster still upholds supremacy
on Scottish decisions. Also in theory, Westminster could legislate in areas of devolved competence,
contrary to the wishes of the Scottish parliament, although it rarely would. If Westminster wanted to
repeal the Scotland act 1998 and abolish the Scottish Parliament to reclaim delegated powers, it could
through its unlimited legislative powers. Since the Scotland act is just an ordinary act that Parliament
has the power to repeal like any other law, even if people argue that this act possess extra validity .
Similarly Westminster could legislate to prohibit Scottish MP s from voting on legislation relating
only to England as the West Lothian question challenged. Overall, Devolution does not represent a
challenge to the doctrine of Parliamentary

Alchemist Workshop Poem
history and perhaps the most important in Dutch history of all.Rembrandt painted Alchemist workshop
in 1606.this is the provenance of the painting, the interpretations have been wide ranging from
alchemist to religious interpretations. A private space for both particle and spiritual work. Rembrandt
used the oil painting show a man sitting in shadows near a window; on the far right is another men at
the fire. The dark border of the image that surrounds the soft golden glow of the room not only
emphasizes the alchemists stillness. Rembrandt s color is apparent in his unique choice and blend of
hues, in the intricate details of the stone frame on the small door behind the man, and in the graceful
curve of the stairs.one side of the helix is kept light in the painting, while the other side is kept
dark.Rembrandt made a complex layers, building up a image from the back to the front with delicate
glazes that allowed light actually to fill his backgrounds and reflect off the white under painting, and
generously applied body colors which mimicked the effect of solid bodies in space.
The curved surface shape is repeated throughout the composition.A black circle, making out the edge
of the painting, and a black point within this circle. This point within the circle is a very well known
symbol for esotericists al chemistry and metaphysics. After this point within the circle has been seen
the next what comes in view is a helix spiral line in the middle of the painting. More primal than being
spiral in shape is the given that the line separates the circle into two parts. Such a separated circle
symbolizes in esotericism . A circle stands for unity and when that unity is divided duality is
symbolized. And the most primal duality presented in esotericism is that of spirit and matter.
The spiral staircase that divides the room, the old man in front of a window and the man at the fire.
The size of the room is the fireplace seems very large, the arched roof and window, thick stone walls
and small arched door all point to a small place in a rather grand house, not to mention the spectacular
spiral staircase. The man, who is clearly the subject of the painting is resting comfortably while the
woman at the fire seems

How Does The Writer Create Atmosphere In The Novel The Woman In Black and the Short Story The
Signalman?
The Woman In Black and The Signalman are both of the same genre horror/ghost stories. This genre is
ideal to create a distinct atmosphere for the reader to be drawn into. The atmosphere the author creates
for the reader is done so by mainly 2 things. Firstly, the characters, descriptions of supernatural
presence, disbelief of the character or narrator and their uncertainty or confusion of conflict.
Secondly, the setting, the type of setting chosen is very important and the way in which the author
describes it also.
When we pick up either of these stories we come to expect certain features from this genre. Both ghost

Specific words such as watchfulness and unusually precipitous are used to convey feeling to the
reader. Descriptions of the setting and character s feelings along with the narrator s reaction to all of
these play a crucial part in creating the atmosphere wanted by Dickens. There is a contrast from
nothing; silence and stillness, to something; noise and movement.
The story starts with a shout Halloa! Below there! This is a sudden noise and disturbs the silence.
Dickens describes the shadows from the sunset as a violent pulsation ; the language used here creates
an element of strangeness as if the author is creating almost a horror effect for the reader. The
signalman continues not to respond, this makes the narrator feel uncomfortable because he knows he
is being ignored. The cutting was extremely deep this description suggests danger within the setting.
There is a distinct description of the signalman; again the language used, solitary , depressing makes
the reader feel uncomfortable because it seems the signalman is not very sociable, barbarous he even
says. The author says there is a
striking chill but this does not necessarily mean it is cold; he may be referring to the atmosphere
surrounding the narrator. The author also creates atmosphere by keeping the reader is suspense at

Mahan s Influence On Alfred Maan
Alfred Mahan is a graduate from Naval Academy, whose thoughts have major impacts on the structure
of the Navy in 19th century. The influence of historical events have a particular effect in his naval
strategy.
In his new science of naval strategy, Mahan gave quite an importance to Naval communications, and
control of these communications. He even contends that interrupting adversaries communications is
the root of national power. He contends that the strategic points of high importance
In addition to that, Mahan contended that the organized forces of the enemy should be the primary
objective, and the mission to go against these navies could be achieved by being a sea power.
According to him, war was not fighting but business, and in this ... Show more content on

Mahan contended the necessity of focusing the fleet in particular points to confront the enemy
strongly, instead of doing commerce raiding. This new system was the main reason of creation of
many battle ships. As the US was a maritime country, the creation of extra number of ships should not
be into disadvantage to a country surrounded by waters.
As Mahan contended, there was supposed to be sufficient battleships for the protection of three waters
surrounding the country, after that, it was time to spread the sea power to all around the world by
bringing together the land forces with maritime foces. In other words, Mahan created the idea of
having soldiers ready for the interest of the nation all around the world, which is still being used by
the Navy and Marine corps.
And finally, in the writing, it is criticized that the new ideas of Mahan caused problems in the
organization of the Navy, which later caused the Navy to have structural changes. This point should be
considered as another improvement from the new navy strategy of Mahan since a new system brings
together new improvements, but gradually.
All in all, Mahan was a leader of development, and no one can argue that the US Navy is still using
the inheritances from Mahan in terms of naval

  • 2. Border Wall Barriers One of the most disastrous promise made by president Trump was the border wall between Mexico and United States. President Trump s defense of his extreme policy was to control the illegal immigration of many Mexican citizens into the United States. They Mexican public was very much outraged by this decision and they were very disappointed at the part where President Trump said,Mexico is going to pay for the wall. Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto showed this disappointment by cancelling his appointment with Mr Trump. This initiative is crushing good cultural and social relationships between two countries. This crushes the ancient cultures which survive near the border of the two countries. President Trump s initiative of building a wall to divide U.S and Mexico is negatively influencing the cultural relations between the government of the United States and the Mexican government. This initiative may also cost United States one of its closest allies: Mexico. Author Felbab Brown explained in her article THE WALL:The real costs of a barrier between the United States and Mexico that The border on which the wall is to be built cuts through ... tribal homelands and separates tribal members from their relatives and their sacred sites, while also sundering them from the natural environment which is crucial not just to their livelihoods but to their cultural and religious identity (Felbab Brown, 2017). All features of the system; detaining delinquents, trials, and punishments all have costs. Reduction in any part of the criminal justice system can potentially result in a harmful society. The question most asked about the death penalty is, Why should honest, hardworking taxpayers, have to pay for murderers for the rest of their life instead of executing them? Actually the death penalty is the most expensive part off the system. According to Dr. Ernest Gross, a Creighton University economics professor, who conducted a study in August 2016, the death penalty cost an average 23.2 million more per year than alternative sentences (Gross). The study found that states with the death penalty spend about 3.54% of overall state budgets on court, corrections and other criminal justice functions associated with the death penalty, while states without the death penalty spend about 2.93% on those functions (Gross). The death penalty is more expensive than life without parole because the constitution requires an extensive and complex judicial process for capital crimes. This is to ensure that innocent men and women are not executed for crimes they did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Americans Have A Different Attitude Summary In her article, Americans Have a Different Attitude , the author Yen Le Espiritu presents the issue of immigrant groups, such as the Filipinos as viewing the United States as in immoral and untraditional state that has lost sense of it s moral values. The author begins narrating the responses she got from interviews she conducted within the Filipino community, located in San Diego, California. Many of these Filipino homes live their lives through the scope of the Filipino Way , which unlike Americans, means that they value their families, hard work, commitment, marriage and purity through sexual desires. Psychological vs Ethical Egoism Essay Psychological Egoism and Ethical Egoism: A Comparison Abstract There is a certain innate desire to help others, just as others will feel that same fulfillment for returning that aid. At the same time, however, there is also an inherent yearning to seek out one s own best interest. This brings about a discussion regarding the difference between psychological egoism and ethical egoism. To understand the similarities and differences, one must first understand the two concepts including their natures, as well as their doctrines of motivation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 70) . Behind every action that a person makes is an underlying question about what that person will get out of the action. According to Rachels, however, this remains an issue of human psychology as opposed to being one of ethics. That being said, psychological egoism does have serious costs for human morality. Should psychological egoism actually be correct, then it would mean that all of society is composed of selfish individuals who care only for their own gain; it would therefore be fruitless to discuss what people should be doing. On the other hand, ethical egoism is a theory that prescribes moral obligation, where all people should be motivated out of self interest (Rachels, 2003, p. 70). This means that every person ought to act in a way that is best for him/herself. Ethical egoism claims that it is moral for all of an individual s actions to be based on self interest, without concerning him/herself with the interests of others. In fact, this thought may be continued by stating that altruism is, therefore, personally hindering and even demeaning (Brink, 1997, p. 122). Hence, ethical egoism must consequently mean that actions taken in an individual s self interest are moral actions, and actions taken that are not self beneficial to an individual are immoral and should, as a result, be avoided. Ethical egoism is typically broken down into two categories: strong and weak. The strong version of ethical egoism centers on the idea that it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

More than 2.9 million U.S. women with a history of breast cancer were alive on January 1, 2012. There are some known risk factors for developing breast cancer. Women are at a higher risk than men. Older women are at an increased risk, as most new cases and most deaths occurred in women over the age of 50. There may be a genetic risk for some people; however, most breast cancer is not hereditary. However, if a person has had breast cancer once they are more likely to develop it again. Other risk factors include having very dense breast tissue, beginning menstruating before age 12, going through menopause after age 55, being overweight, using hormone replacement therapy during menopause, not having any children, or having your first child after the age of 35. While there is no absolute way to prevent getting breast cancer, there are some things a woman can do to lower her risk of getting it. First, she should limit the amount of alcohol she drinks. Next, she should not smoke cigarettes. Third, she should lose weight if they need to, as being overweight or obese increases the risk of breast cancer. Fourth, she should exercise regularly. In the 1920 s, European architecture was beginning to integrate traditional elements with the new social demands for modern technology. Although many architects and engineers were involved, Le Corbusier was the French architect who people today believe led this architectural revolution in Europe. Few are aware of the fact that Pierre Chareau also played a significant role in this modernist movement. Although one could argue that the Maison de Verre is an interruption in the continuity of the Haussmannian buildings of the neighbourhood, it is still hidden away and shielded from the public eye. It may look like the odd one out, but it reflects the personality of Chareau himself as many architects today consider him as an outsider . It must be remembered that the Maison de Verre, although an overall individual achievement in the eyes of modern architecture, was a collaboration between Pierre Chareau and Bernard Bijvoet, a contemporary Dutch architect who kept a low and modest profile in relation to the buildings he contributed to. In addition, the skilled metalworker and craftsman Louis Dalbet contributed to the fabrication of the mechanical toys. Although it received initial criticism for its controversial nature, the Maison de Verre is a unique and significant contribution to 20th century architecture. Yet it is still well received and becoming very popular in todays society. Now a days you can influence anyone through media, whether it is music or even a music video Anyone can agree that the use of violence in music today is much more prominent than it was many years ago. The Music genre I m going to focus on is Hip Hop or Rap. My Hypothesis is to compare music from the 1970 s to the 2000 s and prove that Hip Hop is more likely to talk about drugs, sex, and violence in the 2000 s versus the 1970 s and how strong of an influence it has on society. The theory I decided to go with on this research project is the Cultivation Theory Which argues media shapes a persons sense of reality because many acquire information through mediated sources rather than direct experience, their world view becomes influenced by these sources. For example people who would be defined as heavy Hip Hop listeners can react to certain situations more violently than they would of without having all the emotional influence from violent hip hop songs. So I want to see if Hip Hop can really be influenced to commit crimes and live the same type of way they hear through a song or treat people the way they hear through a song. Or basically do listeners cultivate or adopt beliefs about the world that coincide with messages they have been hearing. In the 1970 s the Hip Hop culture began in the streets of New York City. In other words, the greatest happiness principle says to choose the decision or action that in return creates the greatest amount of happiness for all that that are involved. He says that every other principle we follow are principles that we take into our lives based on the fact that they will hopefully help us to better or quantify our happiness. Abortion satisfies John Stuart Mill s description of Utilitarianism. Women get abortions for a variety of different reasons. Different reasons for getting an abortion range from health concerns and rape, to simply not being ready to take on the responsibility of having, providing, and taking care of another life. Whatever the reason may be, abortion is not wrong. According to Utilitarianism, one should do what will make them and everyone around them the happiest. Now, one could argue that having an abortion may make the other people around the women unhappy. The simple reply to this is that a women s decision to have an abortion has nothing to do with other people. Other people will not be going through the pregnancy and will not have to take care of another human life. Just because one doesn t agree with a women s decision to have an abortion does not mean that the decision to have an abortion will make other peoples lives unhappy. ... The rapid emergence of this music and its subculture has left the church and clergy alike asking the question why? Especially since much of what I would call secular Rap is off the hook these days. How so, do you ask? There is a surplus of gratuitous violence, and sexually explicit Rap lyrics, that currently ride the airwaves and is uploaded into countless IPODs, MP3s, and Myspace.com websites. And what should we say about the continual overexposure and repetitious degradation of young Black women, half naked in booty shorts; subliminally suggesting to many that to treat all women like bitches and hoe s is ok. It also seems to promote a certain image of street machismo or hembra which suggests that adopting a pimp or criminal type lifestyle with a gold jeweled cup filled to the rim with Remy Marty VSOP or Gin and juice is the ultimate form of fun, and that true happiness is wrapped inside a Maybach Mercedes Benz with 24 inch rims and a house worthy of a write up on MTV Cribs. However, that is not the case, as virtual reality is older than the average college student. In 1957 a man named Morton Heilig invented a device called the Sensorama . Morton Heilig s device, consisted [of] the following elements: A viewing screen within an enclosed booth which displayed stereoscopic images. Oscillating fans. Audio output (speakers). Now, when thinking of virtual reality, someone imagines a headset that hooks up to an electronic device and encompasses the user into a virtual world. Well, the headset style device was invented in 1968 when Ivan Sutherland created a head unit; however, it was so heavy that it was meant to be suspended and the user would place their head inside. The head unit connected to a computer and set the user to that virtual world people have come to expect. In the 1980 s companies like NASA started to dabble into the virtual reality to, research into new forms of human computer interaction (HCI) (Virtual Reality, 2016), as well as other projects. To start off, it is evident in the story that the presence of an animal was not a common occurrence within the walls of the prison. As the narrator observed the prisoner due to be hanged, he saw that he was not much more than a Hindu man approaching death. But unexpectedly, a joyous dog appeared and approached the scene of people and went straight for that Hindu man. The immediate transition of thoughts is clearly demonstrated when the narrator states, It is curious, but till that moment I had never realized what it means to destroy a healthy, conscious man. When I saw the prisoner step aside to avoid the puddle, I saw the mystery, the unspeakable wrongness, of cutting a life short when it is in full tide (Orwell 2). If it were not for the prisoner caring about such a miniscule act, the sensitization towards the prejudice murders being committed would not have occurred as strongly to the narrator. The unspeakable wrongness of cutting a life short when it is in full tide developed his understanding of the wrongdoing behind the negative imperialistic environment that surrounds him. • 23. Entity Relationship Diagrams An entity relationship diagram is the basic design model for any database. It is the major deliverable for a conceptual database design. It is the logical organization of any data in the database and is usually made up of three components namely; entities, attributes and relationships. Entities are the major categories of data in the database and are usually represented by rectangles. Attributes are the characteristics of the entities and are usually written in the rectangle. Relationships are the connections between entities and are usually represented using lines joining the rectangles. Entities that share major characteristics are known as entity types, and are also referred to as classes. An entity instance is the individual occurrence of one entity type. It is important to define entity types as it makes it easier to determine the requirements of the database and how it will be structured. In defining an attribute, the analyst must state the importance of the attribute, the value of the attribute and whether the value of this attribute can change. When drawing an entity relationship diagram, the analyst must be aware of the following types of attributes; multi valued attributes, required attributes, optional attributes, composite attributes and derived attributes. When showing relationships, an analyst must be aware of three types of relationships; unary (between instances of one entity type), binary (between instances of two entity types), and ternary (between ... There are two types of authority control for this database and those are name and subject. Now, name authority control is generally used for large collections, to narrow a search or when there are too many subject terms to search by. To use name authority, it identifies the object in the collection by its title, publisher or even the author(s). Allusions Of Allusions In Blake s The Garden Of Love Short exercise paper #1 Blake s lyrical poem The Garden of Love contains several allusions that reference the first book in the Bible Genesis . During this paper, I will be discussing one instance where Blake s poem alludes to Genesis 3. To summarize, there are several instances in which Blake s poem The Garden of Love alludes to Genesis, of these I chose to focus on the chapel built in the midst and its connection to Eve s interaction with the Serpent. Blake s poem begins with the speaker visiting the Garden of Love during which they discover, A chapel was built in the midst. The speaker points out that this chapel is built/where I used to play all of this happens during the first stanza. The speaker does not indicate they watched the chapel built in fact; the speaker almost seems shocked by its presence, saw what I had never seen and it becomes clear whatever this chapel is it has altered how the speaker will continue to interact with the garden, built in the midst/where I used to play on the green . It is important to realize this chapel not only altered the garden itself, but also, has essentially replaced the green so; instead of play, there is this chapel . During the third book of Genesis, a dialogue happens concerning Eve and the Serpent. • 33. Graphic Violence In Quentin Tarantino Graphic violence is an inescapable and ubiquitous characteristic of contemporary cinema (Prince 1). This quote by Stephen Prince in his book Graphic Violence in the Cinema: Origins, Aesthetic Design, and Social Effects almost perfectly embodies the spirit of Quentin Tarantino movies. Although most movies contain some sort of violence, Tarantino involves it in a way like no other filmmaker; it is described as an adrenaline shot as well as keeping humor a part of the violence. Unlike classical films, Quentin Tarantino holds nothing back in showing gore and blood, all the while using it as a narrative device throughout the film. As the adrenaline shot was punched into Mia Wallace s chest by Jules in Tarantino s movie Pulp Fiction, audiences were transitioned from an almost stressful and melancholy scene to being thrown into the blatant violence of the adrenaline shot being punched into Mia s chest. This is where Tarantino s adrenaline shot was originally coined. Tarantino is defined as using his adrenaline shot by having an almost ordinary scene be quickly cut to short scenes of violence. For example, in Pulp Fiction, he uses it for the scene when Buck goes back to his house to get his watch and finds Jules in the house with him. The scene goes quickly from Jules walking out of the bathroom, to the toaster pastry jumping out of the toaster, to Buck massacring Vincent with his Uzi machine gun. Ignoring these issues could cause damage to your vehicle s transmission. Avoid an expensive repair by having the fluid flushed out at the first sign of any of these problems. • 36. Pessimism In Clocks And Lovers By W. H. Auden The world is full of optimistic people who have plenty of hope for the future, but it is also full of pessimists who are there to bring those optimists back to earth. In Clocks and Lovers by W. H. Auden, the clocks are the pessimists and the lover is the optimist. By using exaggerations and personification, Auden contrasts the two personalities with an interesting twist. The optimistic lover floats high above the clouds in a daydream of his own, saying his love will never end, while the clocks, or pessimists, constantly remind him of reality. While the lover is under the illusion that love outlasts time, the omniscient clocks ruin his fantasy with the reality that Time will always win in the end. W. H. Auden uses personification in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... W. H. Auden also uses personification with the lover in the fifth stanza, And the seven stars go squawking / Like geese about the sky. These two lines are a simile as well as personification, but the lover is still using personification to show his undying love toward his beloved. Later in the poem, after the clocks have discouraged the lover with their harsh reality, the lover describes a glacier knocking in the cupboard, a desert sighing in the bed, and a crack in the tea cup that opens up a lane to the land of the dead. This stanza depicts part of an old and broken down house that is a symbol for his dried out love. With the personification of the glacier and the desert, Auden gives the reader an idea of a trapped glacier and a worn out desert that circles back to the love the lover used to have. At this point, the clock s predictions have come true and the lover s love has dried out, just like the desert mentioned in the poem. The glacier knocking in the cupboard represents the lover s trapped state in the love he has promised would be forever. The clocks also use exaggeration to drive their point home. By using hyperboles to push their reminder of death farther than is needed, the clocks force their point into the lover s mind. The clocks remind the lover O let not time deceive you, ... For a prolonged time I had no notion that I was in an emotionally abusive relationship with someone, and that it was wrecking my mental health. The relationship deteriorated me and I was absolutely a changed person at the end of it. I was disgusted with myself, and nothing made myself cheerful anymore. It took myself a while to distinguish the distortion of my mood and behavior, and once I did, it was formidable to cut them loose. I was fourteen, plus I persuaded myself that I loved them. • 41. Analyzing The African Art Galleries On The Metropolitan... This paper will be describing and analyzing the African Art Galleries in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The galleries that will be critiqued in this paper are 350, 351, and 352. Gallery 350 (Samuel H. and Linda M. Lindenbaum Gallery) is an averaged size rectangular room that spans about the length of a sidewalk. The gallery contains several carved wooden sculptures, primarily located in the center of the gallery that immediately take over upon entering. While most objects are not enclosed in cases and are instead freestanding, some works such as the Senufo Face Mask are not freestanding and are supported by a wall in a case allowing for frontal viewing. The Bozo door has a slight relief and can be viewed frontally as it hangs on the wall. Some freestanding works are displayed in cases that are built into the walls of the gallery, which limits the individual s ability to view the work all the way around. Though external lights bring some brightness into the gallery, they seem to add a muted sepia tone to the room. In the cases against the walls, the lights are installed in the panels above the pieces in order to provide an even distribution of light amongst all of the work. In the entire gallery, the lights are scattered on the ceiling and angled in a way to provide light on each sculpture. The sculptures are arranged in a geographical manner since most of the items are from the people of Mali and Côte D ivoire . In this gallery, the pieces are also grouped in a ... With more consumers being focused on the ongoing problem of air pollution, it is not a surprise they are drawn to hybrid vehicle models (Why Hybrids are the vehicles of choice these days, n.d). Hybrids are easier on the environment as well as one s wallet. The fact that they are designed to be kind to the environment is getting the attention of many consumers, businesses and governments. The hybrid car is something of mixed origin or composition by definition. A hybrid vehicle is one that functions with the use of both gasoline engine and electric engine. The gasoline engine is smaller than conventional vehicles, allowing the electric motor to compensate with energy. A high voltage battery charges the electric motor when the car is parked. The hybrid vehicles can be operated using either of the engines or both at the same time. Therefore, it uses less gas. Hybrids also offer a quiet ride. Many people purchased hybrid cars to save money from the increasingly high price of gasoline. As the cost of gas increases so does the demand on hybrid vehicles. Although ... There were several times that Vladek mentioned that God never came. Vladek s experiences in the camp show how many Jews must have felt at that time that they were abandoned by their God. Art Spiegelman is suggesting that life is a game of chance, or rather a series of events that are fated or at least influenced by a divine power. Life is governed solely by chance and why, during the Holocaust, some people survived while others did not. When Spiegelman is looking for answers, and talks to his therapist it reinforces this idea Yes, life always takes the side of life, and somehow the victims are blamed. But it wasn t the best people who survived, nor did the best ones die. It was random! (45) Pavel reminds us that those who survived were not necessarily the most deserving. That can only increase the guilt that the survivors felt, who may have felt they had no right to survive when more deserving people died. I believe that this is both a negative and positive message. Spiegelman shows that during the Holocaust it didn t matter if you were rich, poor, and successful or not you could easily be put to your death. Typically death is fairly random and so is survival, but with the Holocaust instead of being random, groups were targeted. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since, Devolution has led to a persistent demand for the transfer of more legislative power to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, thwarting the flexibility and function of Westminster s Parliament. It is most useful to discuss the Scotland act because the Scottish Parliament has the greatest delegated power including the power to pass primary legislation. Lord Cooper argues that Parliamentary Sovereignty is not a principle that exists in the Scottish Parliament. It is a statutory rule that where a subject matter has been devolved to another Parliament or is not a reserved matter such as education and health, then Westminster cannot usually legislate on that matter in the absence of consent of the Scottish Parliament . The Sewel convention makes that clear and suggests how devolved matters could limit Westminster, however in the Scotland act it is stated that this will not affect Parliament s legislative powers. In addition, Ministerial appointments in Scotland still need approval by the Queen in Parliament. Possibly showing how the Westminster still upholds supremacy on Scottish decisions. Also in theory, Westminster could legislate in areas of devolved competence, contrary to the wishes of the Scottish parliament, although it rarely would. If Westminster wanted to repeal the Scotland act 1998 and abolish the Scottish Parliament to reclaim delegated powers, it could through its unlimited legislative powers. Since the Scotland act is just an ordinary act that Parliament has the power to repeal like any other law, even if people argue that this act possess extra validity . Similarly Westminster could legislate to prohibit Scottish MP s from voting on legislation relating only to England as the West Lothian question challenged. Alchemist Workshop Poem history and perhaps the most important in Dutch history of all.Rembrandt painted Alchemist workshop in 1606.this is the provenance of the painting, the interpretations have been wide ranging from alchemist to religious interpretations. A private space for both particle and spiritual work. Rembrandt used the oil painting show a man sitting in shadows near a window; on the far right is another men at the fire. The dark border of the image that surrounds the soft golden glow of the room not only emphasizes the alchemists stillness. Rembrandt s color is apparent in his unique choice and blend of hues, in the intricate details of the stone frame on the small door behind the man, and in the graceful curve of the stairs.one side of the helix is kept light in the painting, while the other side is kept dark.Rembrandt made a complex layers, building up a image from the back to the front with delicate glazes that allowed light actually to fill his backgrounds and reflect off the white under painting, and generously applied body colors which mimicked the effect of solid bodies in space. The curved surface shape is repeated throughout the composition.A black circle, making out the edge of the painting, and a black point within this circle. This point within the circle is a very well known symbol for esotericists al chemistry and metaphysics. After this point within the circle has been seen the next what comes in view is a helix spiral line in the middle of the painting. More primal than being spiral in shape is the given that the line separates the circle into two parts. Such a separated circle symbolizes in esotericism . A circle stands for unity and when that unity is divided duality is symbolized. And the most primal duality presented in esotericism is that of spirit and matter. The spiral staircase that divides the room, the old man in front of a window and the man at the fire. The size of the room is the fireplace seems very large, the arched roof and window, thick stone walls and small arched door all point to a small place in a rather grand house, not to mention the spectacular spiral staircase. As Mahan contended, there was supposed to be sufficient battleships for the protection of three waters surrounding the country, after that, it was time to spread the sea power to all around the world by bringing together the land forces with maritime foces. In other words, Mahan created the idea of having soldiers ready for the interest of the nation all around the world, which is still being used by the Navy and Marine corps.
