My Passion For Football
Ever since I could walk, I can remember being involved in some kind of sport. Whether it was
recreational or competitive, I wanted to be involved in it. As the years went on, my passion for
athletics narrowed to one particular sport, football. What drew me to this particular sport are its
three main characteristics: physicality, mental prowess, and the intangibles. These assets are
required for not only a person, but a team to be successful.
The physical aspect of the game of football separates those who are truly dedicated and motivated
from those who aren t willing to sacrifice their body. That sacrifice doesn t just mean throwing my
body into a collision. It entails the preparation, not just the performance. This takes place in the
weightroom and on the practice field. There are days when lifting and conditioning aren t the most
fun activity, just like going to school. But, to excel in both areas requires the dedication to work
and prepare when it s not convenient. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have to know what every teammate is doing on any given play. I also have to figure out what
the defense s plan is. In a way, football is like a game of chess, full of calculated risks and
strategy. My experience at my position has taught me how and when to take those risks, and when
it is best play it safe. The analytical aspect of football is the most crucial and unseen characteristic
of the game.
The last main characteristic, intangibles, can be described most accurately with the word
passion. Passion is what fuels every effort towards success on the field. It is what gets me up
early in the summer to workout, or to run and extra sprint when my body aches not to. It s why I
ve spent countless hours studying film on opponents. When I have a passion for something, I want
to do everything in my power to perform at the best of my

Stackelberg Game for Joint Power and Bandwidth Allocations...
Amplify and forward cooperative communication scheme is modeled using Stackelberg market
framework, where a relay is willing to sell its resources; power and bandwidth to multi user in the
system in order to maximize its revenue. The relay determines the prices for relaying users
information depending on its available resources and the users demands. Subsequently, each user
maximizes its own utility function by determining the optimum power and the optimum bandwidth
to buy from the relay. The utility function of the user is formulated as a joint concave function of
the power and the bandwidth. The existence and the uniqueness of the Nash equilibriumis
investigated using the exact potential game associated with the proposed utility... Show more

The relay re encodes the decoded message and then forwards it to the destination node [5] [7]. The
authors in [3], developed performance characterizations in terms of the outage events and the
associated outage probabilities.
The average symbol error probability (SEP) of cooperative system is used to analyze the
performance for various systems and channel models [7]. Single and multiple relay selection were
investigated, and several SNR sub optimum multiple relay selection schemes with linear
complexity in the number of the relays were proposed in [8].
Game theory is a powerful tool to study interaction among self interested users, it is most used in
economics, operations research, political science, etc. [9]. In communication systems and networks
game theory has been recently used extensively to model routing, flow control and power control in
up link CDMA systems, etc. [10]
[14]. Conditions for the existence and the uniqueness of an equilibrium for these models are
investigated using the characteristics of the utility function (i.e., quasi concave utility function

The Role Of Women In The Ancient World
As the author, Rachel Wolchin, once said, Behind every great man stands no woman. There is no
greater man than the man that can acknowledge the woman standing right next to him. Over the
course of history, there has been a progressional change in how society has treated women.
Although many times, we notice either an individual or a group of women that have looked past
social boundaries and redefined the role of women, there is very little recognition of the
accomplishments of these women, and history often encompasses the efforts of men. This is
illustrated especially in the studies of ancient civilizations. We notice throughout many eras that the
role of women is pertaining to the household or bearing children, and that men were the head...

These were generally influential individuals and leaders, who used many characteristics we
associate with success in a way that has left a lasting change in the course of history, such as
charisma, confidence, and intellect. They were born to be leaders, and their instinct to grow into
one will come naturally in an environment where one is needed. The theory was called the Great
Man theory because it was influenced by how society would associate success and strong
leadership with traits that can be stereotypically called masculine . Under the belief that women do
not possess these characteristics, society would dislike the idea of women in leadership. Yet, we
still saw many women in a leadership position such as women in ancient civilizations and later in
more modern society, the Famous

Fear Of Death In Socrates Apology
Death is the destruction or permanent end of something such as life. Many people fear death
more than dying itself. In Apology, Socrates argued that the good person need not fear death .
Death is a state of nothingness as per Socrates. He stated clearly that death is an undisturbed
sleep . Living a good life does not mean long life or wealth; it simply means living an exemplary
life, or a fulfilled life just as Jesus Christ and Socrates. Jesus in His short life on earth lived his
mission sent life of saving people and restoring lives without fear of death. While Socrates lived a
fulfilled life of a well known philosopher who achieved his dreams and goals which was why he

1) OUTLINE: I. Topic sentence.
Manifest destiny and westward expansion was a tremendous key component to the growth of the
nation economically because of the impact it had on native americans, women empowerment, and
expanding the population of the country.
II. Significance of topic.
Americans looked towards the western lands as an opportunity for large amounts of free land, for
growth of industry, and pursue the manifest destiny.
III. List of evidence related to topic.
The railways became an important system that guided settlement and delivered economic
opportunity for much of the United States. Railroads allowed access to places that people had no
means of getting to and provided an opportunity to develop cities and towns
As Western Expansion picked up, it became clear that just as before, the goals of American
expansionists conflicted with the needs of the Natives in the area of expansion
Women were an essential contribution towards expanding the West. Womens roles changed and
during this time and there was a major shift in women power.
Where ever the railroads were being built, those areas population went up dramatically.

All the costumes were normal attire people wear everyday. Richard wore a maroon collared
shirt, with black dress pants, and had a briefcase that matched his collared shirt. When Richard
first walked onto stage I thought he was a businessman because he was clean cut, dressed
professionally, and carried a briefcase. Richard s hair color was light grey which means he was
an older gentleman like Anne said in the play. The next costume I thought was interesting was
the superintendent outfit because it looked like a janitor uniform. When the superintendent
made her first appearance she was eating a cookie and taking the garbage can out of the room.
Therefore, I initially thought she was just a janitor. Later in the performance the audience found
out she was the superintendent in charge of the apartments in the building and also did a lot of
repairs. The third costume was Paul s plaid shirts that stood out to the audience. This costume
tells the audience about the time the performance is taking place. In today s world people tend
not to wear buttoned up plaid shirts because they are out of style. However, back in the 70s plaid
shirts were in style and all the men wore them as causal attire. The last costume I thought was
interesting was Larry s, the expectant father, he wore a sweater vest and dress pants, his hair was
comb to one side, and he wore glasses. This costume tells the audience that he comes from a
wealthy yuppy family and is a smart person because he wears nerdy glasses and wears a sweater

Liberalism Is A Political World View
Liberalism is a political world view which was founded on the ideas of liberty, which
economically means that the government should not try to control rents, wages and to control
prices but to instead let open competition and forces of demand and supply create an equilibrium.
Politically the concept is that preservation of individual liberty and maximization of freedom
should be the main aim of the government. Liberalism states that all individuals should be equal
before the law, no special privileges for those higher up in society. Liberalism is a political and/or
social philosophy promoting the freedom of individuals in a society, parliamentary systems of
government, promotes the nonviolent change of social, economic or political institutions to ensure
that it is not restricted in the development of all spheres in human efforts and the reassurance of
individual human rights. There are two main principles of liberalism, individualism and liberty. It
places the individual at the center of society and argues that the highest social order is to be built
around the individual. The purpose of society is to let the individuals to be able to reach their full
potential if that individual wants to, and to do this, is to give the individual as much liberty as
possible to reach their goal.

Leasing vs Purchasing
Report on Leasing vs. Purchasing The benefits of leasing Computer equipment vs. purchasing
Summary
The company needs to upgrade its computer equipment. There are two upgrade paths to consider.
In this proposal, we demonstrate how equipment leases take advantage of the benefits of reduced
depreciation and taxation, easy scalability, reduction of IT staff usage, reduced energy costs, and
reduction of capital spending. The company can free up money overall and maintain better control
of the IT budget by leasing. The cost of equipment is spread out over a 3 year period by leasing.

Computer technology evolves rapidly. There is a distinct advancement year to year. Computers
handle more processing power, use less energy, and depreciate like rocks falling off Pike s Peak.
Leasing helps prevent obsolescence. It offers an opportunity to upgrade equipment for a fraction of
the cost of purchasing. With better equipment, the company stays ahead of the IT curve and
improves on productivity from all departments that utilize the in house private network. IT
equipment has an expected useful life of five to eight years.

NHS Scotland Deficit
I have chosen to investigate the NHS Scotland deficit. The NHS stands for the National Health
Service, which provides healthcare for all UK citizens based on their need for healthcare rather
than their ability to pay for it. It is funded by taxes. The NHS Scotland 15bn deficit needs to be
addressed as the service is over stretched, underfunded and many believe that it will have an
negative impact on society if it was to collapse. It is my belief that the NHS Scotland budget has
not kept in line with the rising demand for the for services, such as Obesity, Mental Health and
the growing population. I believe that to increase NHS funding we need to realistically rethinking
our funding strategies and raise the overall level of care while reducing avoidable expenditure .
The NHS was founded on 5 July 1948 and I strongly believe that we should take care nurturing our
national treasure.

Does the Current Electoral Process Result in the best Candidate for President?
History informs us about the first method the parties developed in order to pick their presidential
candidates. This method was the congressional caucus. The framer s method in 1787 was that
each elector would cast two electoral votes, each for a different person for president. The person
who received the majority of the electoral votes would win the presidential election and the person
who received the second most amount of electoral votes won the vice presidential election.
However, the rise of political parties and the election of 1800 made a great change to the system.

All together, there are 538 Electoral votes. In December after the election, the electors cast their
votes. When the votes are counted on January 6th, the Presidential candidate that gets more than
half, 270, wins the election. The President elect and Vice President elect then take the oath of
office and are inaugurated two weeks later, on January 20th. Returning to the main question, I don
t believe the electoral process results in the best candidates for President. I believe the choice
should not be left for the electoral college but for each person s vote to count. One alternative is
the popular vote where everyone s vote would count for one vote. I don t think it is fair to try to
convince people that they have a voice and encourage them to vote, when the Electoral College
has the final say. The Electoral College leads to things like there being massive amounts of
campaigning being down in battleground states like Ohio and Florida while people in solidly red
or solidly blue states have their issues basically ignored because it s almost certain which way the
state is going to go.

The Method Of Birth Control Essay
What is the best method of birth control (or contraception)? Is one better or more preferred than
another? Are there any side effects that I should be concerned about? These are just a few of the
many questions to ask when discussing various types of birth control methods with your doctor.
There are many methods of birth control, beginning with abstinence which means having no
sexual contact at all, which is 100% effective. The various methods differ greatly and have
various rates of effectiveness. Some methods will produce side effects in some patients. There is
really no best method of birth control for everyone, but each individual can determine the best
choice for themselves with the help of their doctor. Many factors including age and general health
come into play when choosing a birth control method. Most birth control methods are used by
women, although there are a few options available to men. The decision of which type of birth
control method to use is one that should be made by the patient seeking a solution and his/her
doctor, after careful review of all factors, which include:
How often the patient has sex, the number of sex partners the patient has, if the patient wants to
have children someday, how well each method works to prevent pregnancy, the patient s age, the
patient s health, possible side effects, or the patient s comfort level with using the method. Even the
most effective birth control methods can fail. But chances of getting pregnant are

Quite a bit of research exists to highlight many types of relationships and how those relationships

uniqueness of the common examples that have been accented in anthropological research, like the
Bantu people and the Basarwa people that Elizabeth Cashdan (1985) discusses. Although not all
researchers have been as successful in identifying risk reduction reciprocity model in cross cultural
examples, such as Bliege Bird et. al. (2002), which proposed that this could be because of their
treatment of free riders or just that they practice food and resource sharing without any concern for
reducing risk of loss of resources. Either way, as previously mentioned quite a bit of research has
been conducted to identify types of risk reduction reciprocity strategies, and much more research
has been done to examine different types of relationships. Overall, the primary concern of this
paper is going to be trying to identify a relationship or association between the proposed model and

Compare Woodchucks And Traveling Through The Dark
Human beings are often times very cruel to wild animals. The poems Woodchucks by Maxine
Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford depict two similar cruel interactions
with animals. Both poems feature a narrator who treats wild animals as lesser beings for the greater
good . However, the narrators do not share the same intentions and guilt. In the end though, both
speakers show that they believe they are in a position of higher value than these animals. In
Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford, use of diction,
imagery, and tone create a tense and brutal mood that reveals the relationship between the speaker
and the animals.
In the poems, the author s diction helps display the relationship shared between the speaker and the
animals. In Woodchucks , diction helps create a relationship where the woodchucks deserve to be
killed because the damage they ve done. Kumin uses this as justification for the narrator s malicious
slaughtering of the woodchucks; like in line 12, the woodchucks are not eating the carrots, they are
beheading them. Replacing the word eating with beheading gives off a violent and negative
connotation directed towards the woodchucks. Traveling through the Dark uses a similar strategy
to make the animal seem less significant. In line 6, the dead deer is described as a heap . Objects
associated with the word heap are items of little to no significance. Stafford exemplifies his use of

Managing a company s operations, marketing and sales activities and expense management are but

will then need to decide what to do with those profits. Among the options for using profits are:
operations, returning cash to shareholders, or keeping cash in reserve for future use

Should a net loss be greater than beginning retained earnings, retained earnings can become
negative, creating a deficit.
The retained earnings general ledger account is adjusted every time a journal entry is made to an
income or expense account
When a company generates a profit, management has one of two choices: They can either pay it
out to shareholders as a cash dividend, or retain the earnings and reinvest them in the business.
When the executives decide that earnings should be retained, they have to account for them on the
balance sheet under shareholder equity. This allows investors to see how much money has been put
into the business over the years. Once you learn to read the income statement, you can use the
retained earnings figure to make a decision on how wisely management is deploying and
investing the shareholders money. If you notice a company is plowing all of its earnings back
into itself and isn t experiencing exceptionally high growth, you can be sure that the stock holders
would be better served if the board of directors declared a dividend.
Ultimately, the goal for any successful management is to create Re.1 in market value for every Re.1
of retained earnings.

William Shakespeare Essay
William Shakespeare
Ask anyone who Shakespeare was, and he or she will immediately rattle off at least three different
plays that were required readings in English, not to mention a few blockbuster movies bearing his
name. Many revere the works of Shakespeare as paramount in the world of literature, dedicating
entire books, classes and festivals to the study and celebration of his work. Although the ancient
language is a common stumbling block for even the most seasoned readers, his varied tales of
love, hate, fear, betrayal, laughter, defeat and victory are just as fitting today as they were four
hundred years ago. He is amazingly timeless. Yet, while we might know what Shakespeareis, will

Sadly, Hamnet died in August of 1596, and from that point forward we have no more
information regarding his family until 1616, the year of his death. There are enough legal
documents and theatre records, though, to know that Shakespeare goes on to possess a generous
amount of real estate, hold shares in an acting company that built the Globe Theatre, and become
a principal player in the acting group The Kings Men (A Midsummer Night s Dream xxx xxxi).
There are many theories and stories floating around that seem to fill in the gaping holes in his
timeline, but since this information doesn t appear in a register or on a playbill, we don t know
what is fact or fiction.
On January 25th, 1616, Shakespeare signs his will in three places leaving the majority of his
estate to his eldest daughter, Susanna, and his second best bed to his wife (All Shakespeare). He
died three months later on April 23rd, and was buried in Stratford, yet his name does not appear on

Stereotypes In Forrest Gump
White privilege and stereotypes are two ways race can influence a person s everyday life. White
privilege can be defined simply as white people getting special privileges and rights because they
are white. This can be seen when a white person gets a job opposed to a person of color or when
white people are able to live in nicer neighborhoods while people of color live in crime ridden ones
because white peoplehave more wealth. White privilege has become so normal that most people
fail to see it in action. Furthermore, stereotypes can have many harmful effects as well.
Stereotypes can be defined as distorted views or inaccurate beliefs about a group of people. Not
all stereotypes are bad, but many of them are. An example could be saying that all African
Americans are good at sports. However, this is not always the case. Stereotypes may sometimes
seem harmless, but these beliefs can impact a person s life. White privilege and stereotypes are
two different concepts, but they both have similar effects that tend to hurt people of color more
than they hurt white people. Both of these ideas appear in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, which
was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film depicts white privilege by showing only white people
in positions of power, illustrates stereotypes about people of color by having a stereotypical black
family, and changes black history by having a white person make achievements that people of color
really made.
Forrest Gump is a movie that follows a man throughout the story of his life. It starts out with
Forrest Gump waiting at a bus stop when the bus arrives and a woman steps out and sits down
next to him. He begins to talk to her and he offers her some chocolate. The way he talks hints to
the fact that he is not the most intelligent person. He then starts to talk about her shoes which leads

Company Background Of British Petroleum
1.Problem Analysis: Company Background: British Petroleum(BP) is one of the world s top
oil and gas companies, it is also United Kingdom s largest corporation. They mainly deal with
Oil but since the last 40 years or so they have shown great interest in chemicals and plastics,
including a range of specialty products such as detergents, advanced composite materials, and
advanced ceramic engineered materials. BP has more than 16,000 service stations around the

revenue is generated from producing chemicals and plastics. Like most oil companies they ve had

It was during this period that BP decided to pay close attention to their core businesses and sell
any businesses or operations that did not support their core operations. Horton came to a
conclusion that BP was comprised of three business processes. They were: 1.Upstream Oil and
Gas Exploration and Production 2.Downstream Petro Refining and Marketing 3.Downstream
Petrochemical Products The Upstream process was responsible for feeding both of the two
downstream processes and all the three streams we decoupled and run independently. Basically
BP s upstream processes had the liberty to sell to any of the refining companies and their
downstream units can buy oil and gas from any of the production companies. The most important
consideration here was about getting the best possible price. The management structure was
completely changed and different individuals were appointed to head each stream. During this
time BP also started to sell their business units that weren t part of the three core streams. The
massive transformation resulted in a loss of $811 million in 1991. 2.Alternatives: 1.Focus on what

A Case Study On Entrepreneurship And Business Failure Essay
John Labatt Blows In and Out of the Windy City, A Case Study in Entrepreneurship and Business
Failure, 1889 1896 , a 2014 article by Matthew Bellamy clearly illustrates multiple aspects working
against the Labatt Brewery in its attempt to jump into American saloons in the nineteenth century.
Being the first Canadian Brewery to tackle an expansion undertaking provided an interesting study
for the author. The article discusses the brewery s history and compares the different possibilities
that lead to the downfall of the company s American Expansion. Debating with the readers
whether the failure was caused by environmental factors or strong personality traits, by not
understanding the American consumer base or by not planning for new expenses Bellamy covers
many possible angles as to where the collapse could have faulted. Initially looking at how to
define a business failure, the author synthesizes for the audience generally accepted symptoms:
market share erosion, persistent low or negative profitability, shrinking critical resources, or the
loss of legitimacy (Bellamy, 2014.) When comparing this information to an article by Michael
Porter from 2008 titled The Five Competitive Forces that Shape Strategy , there is some overlay in
information. Interestingly enough, multiple of these aspects are seen through the company s
attempted expansion as well as in other companies who also failed. When searching for what John

Egypt Supreme Trial Essay
After death, an Ancient Egyptian s Akh, or complete soul, goes through many tests to prove it
deserves a final resting place in the afterlife. The ultimate trial is the judgement of the heart. It s
verdict determined your existence and whether or not you made it into the peaceful afterlife. This
common belief for Ancient polytheists in Egypt played a huge role in the decisions they made, as
a heart proved heavy in the final judgement would limit your existence furthermore. While a heart
that was found to be light and pure with good deeds would be granted an eternal afterlife. Many
gods, goddesses, and tools were involved with this process, each playing a different and crucial part
for this supreme trial.
The weighing of the heart was a well known belief in Ancient Egypt. Taking place in the hall of Ma
at, the Egyptian soul, also known as the Akh, had it s heart weighed against the feather of truth. If
their heart proved to be lighter than the feather, then it showed a life of worthiness and great deeds.

then it was devoured by Ammut, and the Akh would no longer exist. In contrast, if the heart was
lighter or equal to the feather of Ma at from being pure and doing a life of admirable deeds,
Horus would then lead the Akh down the hallway to his father, Osiris , throne. There, Ma at stood

The Pros And Cons Of Manuals
Summer of 2017, I was employed as a warehouse manager as well as a truck driver for deliveries.
I was driving a large cube truck with a manual transmission through the mountains of Kentucky.
The truck was almost at max load capacity and I would not have made it up the steep hills in an
automatic as I was passing other trucks struggling to keep momentum to the crest. The company
also saved on fuel costs by the drivers being able to keep their trucks in a single gear rather than an
automatic constantly downshifting to keep the revs in the power band. Automatics may outperform
manuals in everyday driving but cannot keep up in heavy duty or performance applications.

Throughout his years of racing, he has always valued the driver to car connection through the
operation of a manual gearbox and has not found an automatic that has yet to reach the same
feeling and performance. Engine breaking, as mentioned in the previous quote, is the process of
leaving the car in a selected gear to allow the engines revs to drop with the resistance of the
gearbox. The reason for engine breaking is to slow down the vehicle without using the breaks as
well as eliminating driver response through not having to switch pedals.
Heavy machinery, engineers, laborers, and precision assembly is required for the production of all
models and styles of transmissions. When pricing out a new car, you ll find that the same trim and
model but with a manual transmission will be a grand or two cheaper than the automatic
counterpart. The reason for this is manuals being cheaper to produce and install due to its
mechanical simplicity and lack of electronics. In terms of repair, stick shifts a common name for
manuals, are vastly cheaper to maintain and fix because of their not being as complex and having
less moving parts that could fail. The cost of replacing automatic transmission fluid generally
ranges from about $100 to $200, depending on the vehicle and who is doing the work. Manual
transmissions also require periodic fluid changes, but the cost tends to be about half of that. (Rick
Popely, June 8, 2016).

Abstract
The purpose of the essay sets out to look at the concept of nationalisation, research it and discuss
whether it is an applicable strategy to implement into South African policy. The importance of the
essay is to highlight the future economic outcomes which could incur in South Africa should it be
adopted and also look at possible alternative strategies instead of nationalisation. The issue was

The ANC believed that nationalisation would be the key factor of its economic policy reform.
However after much international research, this idea was abandoned due to the overwhelming
failures of nationalisation implementations abroad. The call for nationalisation has brought upon
frantic debate since its re emergence in recent times. Many observers agree that nationalisation
appears to have few positives attached to it but many negatives to it rendering it as a potential
economic failure.
Why Is Nationalisation Needed?
South Africa is regarded to have one of the world s most unequal societies. Looking at Gini
Coefficients, The dispersion of income and wealth between the rich and the poor is one of the most
uneven in the world (Bisekker, 2010). This means that South Africa is drifting towards perfect
inequality. With job creation on a decline, unemployment steadily rising, and inequality gap
worsening, the call for nationalisation by Julius Malema (2009) is sought to allow every South
African to benefit from mines, which are owned and run by the State government. In nationalising
the mining sector in South Africa, the State government believes it would have the capabilities of
attracting labour intensive mining industrialists who will process mineral resources and diversify
the South African economy.

The Ethics Of Plant Biotechnology
By maintaining a largely fact based and scientific perspective throughout the book, Fedoroff
furthers her credibility. Plant biotechnology is Fedoroff s life s work, earning her a plethora of
honors and awards. Thus, it is only natural for her to be more in favor of the pro plant
biotechnology view she argues for in her book. However, Fedoroff maintains a neutral stance for
the rest of her book, presenting case studies, addressing both successes and failures of genetic
engineering, and responding to myths surrounding genetic engineering. Despite her authority,
Fedoroff certainly did her research before writing her book, having a bibliography with works
presenting reliable and accurate data that spans thirteen pages. While Fedoroff s career is founded
on the future advancement of plant biotechnology, she carefully addresses both the pros and cons
of the rapidly expanding scientific techniques and urges for caution as we proceed forward. Her
motivation is to increase awareness of the virtues of plant biotechnology, in spite of some of its
failures. Mendel in the Kitchen is a scientifically valid work, featuring many components that
separate it from pseudoscience. Fedoroff and Brown, in fact, follow a format that effectively
discredits pseudoscientific claims while reaffirming the actual science of genetically modified
foods. The initial chapters describe the history of GMOs to establish their current status today. Once

The concept of being a child who was glorified by his mother at a young age, and who was flat
out just spoiled, gives context to Holden s inability to deal with issues on his own, reflecting on
his social skills and behavior challenges.(Yardley) So when Holden s younger brother Allie
passes away his initial reaction is to break the windows because he doesn t know how else to
deal with these types of issues. This aggressive reaction that Holden takes is understandable, but
at the same time unnecessary; most kids would deal with the loss of a loved one by seeking
comfort from others, but in this situation Holden no longer had his mother to pamper him
because they were busy grieving the loss as well. Leaving Holden Caulfield alone.( Irving 84) It

are in contrast to his high goals of superiority. Whether it is with his younger siblings, or with his

Components Of Integrated Project Delivery
What is Integrated Project Design?
There are many different business structures in place which businesses around the world are using
today. One of these business structures, used in the design and construction industry, is called
Integrated Project Delivery. Integrated Project Delivery is a business style which incorporates all
aspects of design throughout the entire design process. This includes, but is not limited to, all
participants, business coordination s, and business systems, and the way they interact with the
specialties of the participants, in turn producing fluidity within the design and a highly effective
final product. The main players within IPD are owners, architect, contractors, designers, sub
contractors, consultants and suppliers.
Collaboration is key within Integrated Project Delivery (4). In order to create this type of building
structure all parties involved must be willing to collaborate. When this happens the result creates an
open, shared business model where no information is hidden or lost in communication. This lessens
the instance of becoming fragmented and disconnected. Early involvement of all participants from
owner to supplier produces a mutual understanding of the goal and outcome of the design and
leaves everyone with an equal understanding of the project. At this point in IPD mutual trust can be
gained as well as mutual benefit while understanding everyone s role in the process. Team building
is another major part of IPD. Under each main

Animal Testing Is Bad Science
Animals very rarely serve as models for the human body. Many people are brought up with the idea
that animal experimentation is necessary to insure the safety of humans, but in reality, these
experiments are creating only harm to animals. Animals have done nothing to deserve this backlash,
and by educating the public on the true unsuccessfulness of animal testing, the ethical side is forced
out in the open. The argument Animal Testing is Bad Science by the People for The Ethical

Through the use of credible and reliable sources, PETA s argument builds validity. The author

Censoring South Park
Dick Cavett, a famous American talk show host, once said, Censorship feeds the dirty mind more
than the four letter word itself. Censorship limits free speech, and it is used constantly today. In
South Park s situation, the writers use logic and evidence to express their opinions on controversial
issues, and people think that it should be censored. Just because the show uses morally questionable
techniques, does not mean that it is useless. In fact, South Parkhas taught people a lot; it changes

Another huge controversy South Park has created is their depiction of religion. South Park has
parodied almost every major religion so it is understandable that many people are offended. In the
episode, Trapped in the Closet, South Park basically calls Scientology a global scam. The LDS
church responded to the episode, All About Mormons, by calling it a gross portrayal of the LDS

While they have not been able to ridicule Islam directly, which is something that the creators

Christianity is, by far, the most often parodied religion in South Park. Arguably, the most
offensive parody South Park has done involving Christianity is the depiction of Jesus. In South

Injap Color Express, a photo developing shop. All these are based in Iloilo. Then he cooked up
the idea of operating Mang Inasal, the specialty of which is grilled chicken. It started in 2003
when small town lad Edgar Sia II, then a 26 year old college dropout, grabbed a tiny spot in the
parking lot of a mall, the site of an upcoming food hall. As a frequent customer of McDonald s
and KFC, Sia knew what he d been missing in the fast food scene: Filipino style street fare served

Currently, there are 445 branches nationwide and with over 10,000 employees system wide.
MANG INASAL is doing its share in alleviating the unemployment burden of the country. The
presence of every MANG INASAL in a certain area provides not only employment but also
opportunities to community members including suppliers of kalamansi, charcoal, banana
leaves, vegetables, bamboo sticks, and other ingredients. It also indirectly gives income
generating activities to many. Mang Inasal s 2006 debut in Manila was awkwardly timed as it
was in the midst of a rice shortage in the country. Sia s response was to offer a value meal of
grilled chicken and unlimited rice for the equivalent of $2. This had already become an instant
hit in Iloilo and Manila s budget conscious crowd took to it, too. The all you can eat campaign,
which was supposed to last two months, became a permanent item on the menu. Today, Sia says,
it s their most popular product. Manila alone has over 100 Mang Inasal outlets; 200,000 customers
are served daily nationwide. Aiming to make his chain a national brand, Sia hit the road. He spent a
year visiting over 70 cities in all. Today if we want to expand somewhere, I can say I ve been there,
he says. (Mang Inasal is present in 68 cities.) * Mang Inasal Manila Corporate Office is located at

The Alliance Of The United Steel Workers Union And The...
With the rapid industrialization of the world we are currently at a stalemate, with the rapidly
depleting supply of resources and the growing demand, we must either come up with new methods
or risk the loss of those resources altogether. In order to address these issues, the BlueGreen
Alliance was formed. The BlueGreen Alliance is the unlikely partnership of The United Steel
Workers Union and the environmentalist group Sierra Club, working together in order to build a
cleaner and fairer economy . The normally opposing organizations are collaborating to improve
environmental policy and expand the number of and quality of jobs in the green economy. Since
the BlueGreen Alliance may be the first major collaborative group working to tackle these issues
their effectiveness in comparison to other options has not been evaluated. In this paper we will look
at the ties between economical and environmental problems, what the BlueGreen Alliance has
accomplished, and other alternatives before determining the best course of action to build a cleaner
and fairer economy. The BlueGreen Alliance is not a partnership of convenience, but a partnership
that works towards spreading awareness about the issues we face when tasked with creating good
jobs while also maintaining a safe environment. Most successful businesses are able to contribute
their success to three important factors, limits, interdependence, and equity. Limits refer to the
reality in which we do not have unlimited economic

Why Do Farmers Do Not Have The Right To Fix Their Own...
John Deere Tractor, farmers could pull out a toolbox in the middle of a field and fix what
needed fixing, just about every time. It was that simple for them, and they could get right back
to what they were doing, and meet their deadline. Nowadays, farmers can not do that. The
Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 creates it so farmers do not have the right to fix their
own tractors, because of the programming that is in those said tractors. That programming is set
so that only certain people can log into the program and push a few buttons on a computer and
whala, its fixed. They do not come on the exact date that you break down though. The farmer
would have to wait a few days, or find a way to get their machinery all the way to the dealer to get
fixed. That is where the catch comes in. Many people think that taking their equipment to the dealer
will take a short amount of time, but instead, that could take multiple weeks at a time. Farmers, do
not have that kind of time. They need to get things done at a certain deadline, as fast as they can,
which means that they need to have their equipment fixed as fast as they can now. If not, it could
cause delays in planting and harvesting, which could end up in a loss of profits and some even
angrier farmer. (Farmers demand right...)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

angry and have the possibility of them sending their equipment somewhere else, not buying from
them, or maybe even not going with their brand anymore at all. This can ultimately cause problems
for the manufacturers. They will be in a constant catch 22 with consumer, because they want the

Battle Of Midway Outline
Battle of Midway World War II was a significant point in American history. The turning point in
the pacific was the Battle of Midway. As leaders, we need to be aware of what the Battle of
Midway brought to the fight in the pacific and what we learned. The Battle We are actively
preparing to greet our expected visitors with the kind of reception they deserve (Admiral
Chester W. Nimitz, Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet 29May1942). The battle of Midway
was fought through the fourth and seventh of June 1942, in the central pacific island of Midway.
The battle is considered one of the biggest decisive points of the Second World War taking place
in the Pacific. The fight was mainly between the Americans and the Japanese. The Japanese were
in the offensive takin up islands and land trough out the pacific and Asia. Japan was on the hunt to

they believed that they both should have created plans in light of the enemy s capabilities and not

good idea of the Japanese intentions due to excellent radio intelligence on the enemy. Such precise
and economical employment of forces could not have occurred unless he possessed the ability to
gather strategic intelligence on the enemy (Robert J. Cressman May 2009). Midway was a battle

Analysis Of Traveling Through The Dark By William Stafford
In the poem Traveling through the dark by William Stafford, he describes how he came across a
dead pregnant doe as he was driving his car along a mountain road. It was a wined and narrow
road so he decided it would be best if the deer was moved into the canyon by the road to avoid
more casualties. He conveyed the theme of having to make a tough decision and that life goes on.
When he noticed the deerwas pregnant in stanzathree, he felt pity but knew he could not do
anything to help the doe or the fawn. His hesitation in the last sentence of stanza three was him
thinking to maybe save the fawn, but then to come to realization of there not being much he could
do but let nature take its course. Throughout the poem we see the narrator has

Insightful Reflection in ICT
Technology through Life
ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is useful and helpful. It s an application of
modern technology to interact and share information among people all fields and develop science
through technology.
For me as a student technology can really help to make our class session in Empowerment
technology , as interactive and collaborative. By putting a student into a small groups or maybe
pairs, quick internet research can help us find answers and solutions to problems. I can show
everyone how technology can help with lecture portions of classes using power point presentations
displayed via and overhead projector.
Technology also provides new resources for learning the overcome distance and time. The addition

What Model Of Market Structure
Business in any city are challenging commodities that produce gain for the population. This city
growth is well developed and incumbent by the market structure it abide by. The wisdom of
crowds is based on the assumption that valuable knowledge in social systems frequently exists
only as dispersed opinions, and that aggregating dispersed information in the right way can
produce accurate predictions. A prediction market provides a vivid illustration of the power of the
wisdom of crowds. (Qiu, L., Rui, H., Whinston, A. B., 2014) This outline will break down the

These business sell the most by the demand of the consumer, this allows the easiest profit for a
short run. Oligopoly means that an industry is dominated by a small number of sellers with market
power. They can limit and discount competition. A good example are the cell phone companies
such as Verizon or Sprint. They are their own competition and the government only regulates them
but does not intervene with their sales practices. Monopoly markets used to be the way of the past.
Companies had only one provider who offers a good or a service. Monopolies have no one to
compete against nor did it allow others to get in the competition race with its product. As a
monopoly the company can set price, and who to sell it to. It does not allow others to emulate
what it sells. The monopolies don t have competitors so they mostly maintain their customers. The
National Football League is somewhat an example. They have exclusive rights to sell goods, they
have no competition and most of the products sold are solemnly offered by or through them. If any
other business uses their logo they must pay a fee.
There is an Army base in Fort Lee Virginia. Although it is believed to belong to the U.S
government, the agencies departments and firms that well work within it are structured as markets
which provide for the city. It belong to a monopoly but it can also be considered to operate as an
oligopoly. Some of the departments available are the AFFS Exchange, The military clothing and

Persuasive Essay On Locker Searches
I feel that locker searches are an invasion of one s privacy. I also feel that through locker searches
we would be able to increase safety among schools, campuses, locker rooms and many other
places. Lockers are a area where you place a assortment of things in which for some people could
include hazardous things such as weapons, drugs, etc. Although all this is at risk I still feel as
though lockers should be private. And if one is not to be trusted with a locker why should he or
she be issued a locker. I suppose many horrible encounters have led behind the lack of locker
searches. Endeavors such as murders, poisons, and maybe even sometimes suicide. So if I were

mourning and press of a suicide .When all could ve been easily stopped by looking and
observing the locker finding the problem and diagnosing it properly. Through a locker you can
definitely come to a many of conclusion about a person. Such as their character or maybe
cleanliness of that person. Sometimes going through a person s things can mess with their
dignity. But in all honesty safety of that person an others is most important. Too many times
have we turned our TVs on and witnessed the covering of a tragedy of this sort on the news .
Children who get fed up with the stress of the world and choose to release their anger by bringing

Effects Of Dutch Colonization Of Indonesia
Dutch colonization is one of the main influences on modern Indonesia. According to Dutch
Colonization the Dutch controlled Indonesia for nearly 300 years which sprouted many
nationalistic ideas (Dutch Par 2). Indonesia later became independent in 1945 with other countries
such as the United States of America recognizing it as an independent nation. Dutch occupation
directly affected the modern Indonesian political scene, the global spice trade and local Indonesian
religion.
Dutch colonialism has greatly influenced the Indonesian governmental system. Dutch occupation

Dutch colonization took hold of one of the largest producers of spice in the world Indonesia and its
entire supply of spice. The Dutch controlled the global spice market by controlling the amount of
spice produced to increasing demand in Europe causing the price of spice to increase to make the
maximum amount of profit effectively monopolizing it through force numerous trade routes were
developed with neighbouring countries (Wright Par 4)
. Eventually, as the Dutch lost control of Indonesia, the amount of spice was not regulated
causing the price of spice to decrease as it would be more accessible and be sold in larger
quantities. The Dutch had amazing business skills and took advantage of what they could in
Indonesia and monopolized the spice trade. This caused them to gain great amounts of profit with
no real competition. This, however, was lost as they lost control over Indonesia causing the
supply of spice to increase and spices native to Indonesia to be grown elsewhere. The global
market for spice then drastically changed with spice becoming more accessible removing the
barrier of exclusivity causing spice to be less valuable. In addition to affecting the Entire world,
Dutch colonialism also affected the Indonesian people

Science depends on research. Consider our limited opportunities our lives are brief; our vision is
limited; and we can make huge mistakes, when it comes to events we think were before Bible
history. Here are a few examples:
How often the supposed deductions from some scientists are revised or cast aside;
With what readiness the assumed period of the earth s development is from time to time increased
or diminished by millions of years;
How the theories advanced by different scientists conflict with one another,
Considering all this, do we prefer to trace our descent from germs and mollusks and apes when
we could have an infinitely better genealogy: God created man in His own image, in the image of
God created He him ? Genesis 1:27.
We will look at some scientific evidence below, but first we see Bible history is supported by the
science of archeology back to Genesis 11. a chapter with the Towel of Babel that is the basis of the

Summary Of The Last Of The Mohicans
Lee 1
Daniel Lee
Ms.Shelley
English III AP, 7th period
27 October 2015
Word Count: 979
To Mix or Not to Mix? The official mixing of the Natives and white Europeans began during the
French and Indian War when the white settlers collided with the Natives. People of the 1700s held
divided perspectives on the increasing prevalence of miscegenation, and James Fenimore Cooper
fictionalizes several of them in his oeuvre. The two groups nonetheless had numerous conflicts,
which led to racist opinions and prejudices on both sides. James Fenimore Cooper s The Last of the
Mohicans, while endowing humanity to the Native Americans through certain character portrayals,
actually reinforces stereotypes about Native Americans and ultimately suggests that they are an
inferior race to whites. In the novel, Europeans feel superior to Native Americans, creating a clash
between identities that does not permit coexistence. Although Hawkeye interacts with both
cultures, as a man without a cross who lives with natives but remains insistently white, Hawkeye
is allowed to negotiate all possible worlds by remaining either genetically or geographically
detached (McIntosh Byrd 146). Hawkeye stays detached from the whites but still prefers them to
the natives. He does not wish to be part of the native culture because he holds disparaging views of
their primitive weapons and limited scientific knowledge. Hawkeye substantiates this
Lee 2 attitude when he asserts that, I should think a rifle in

Educating Parents and Caregivers on the Prevention of SIDS
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained death of an infant less than one year of
age after having done a complete postmortem examination and investigation of the scene of death.
There are no causes that have been found that make it clear as to why SIDS is so common. The
rate of SIDS decreased dramatically when the Back to Sleep campaign was started to encourage
parents and caregivers that infants were placed on their back while sleeping (Hockenberry Wilson,
2015, p. 473). The most common ways that these deaths have occurred are the infant s sleeping
environments and their positioning. Research shows that infants that sleep in the prone position are
most at risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
42). The cause of SIDS is still unknown but autopsies have been reliable in showing consistent
findings pathologically that reveal whether a child has pulmonary edema or intrathoracic
hemorrhages that could possibly confirm a diagnosis. Autopsies should be done in every infant and
the results should be shared with the parents as soon as they are completed (Hockenberry Wilson,
2016, p. 476).
Important critical assessments to make regarding SIDS is identifying risk factors that could
potentially lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and ensuring to educate the caregivers on
techniques to prevent these deaths. Some complications that may arise with SIDS could be a
sense of hopelessness for the family of the infant. The parents may feel guilty and blame
themselves for the death of their child. To appropriately care for this family, important NANDA
nursing diagnoses for SIDS would be the Risk for Complicated Grieving related to Loss of Child
secondary to SIDS and the Risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome related to Deficient Knowledge
of Prevention Techniques secondary to Unsafe Sleeping Environment.
Important teachings to assist the family in understanding SIDS is ensuring that they know what the
risk factors are: maternal smoking, maternal alcohol use, co sleeping, prone sleeping, side lying
positions, and soft bedding. Parents must be educated on some protective factors that could help in
decreasing the risk of SIDS

Cultural Taxonomies of India
We live on our own solitary islands of reality, absorbed in and fascinated by our own points of
view. Frequently we reach out to one another seeking to understand or be understood. The bridge
between our separate realities is communication . . . To communicate is to relate.
Layne and Paul Cutright

National Literacy Mission Program to volunteer in India for one year, with the purpose of bridging

  • 2. My Passion For Football Ever since I could walk, I can remember being involved in some kind of sport. Whether it was recreational or competitive, I wanted to be involved in it. As the years went on, my passion for athletics narrowed to one particular sport, football. What drew me to this particular sport are its three main characteristics: physicality, mental prowess, and the intangibles. These assets are required for not only a person, but a team to be successful. The physical aspect of the game of football separates those who are truly dedicated and motivated from those who aren t willing to sacrifice their body. That sacrifice doesn t just mean throwing my body into a collision. It entails the preparation, not just the performance. This takes place in the weightroom and on the practice field. There are days when lifting and conditioning aren t the most fun activity, just like going to school. But, to excel in both areas requires the dedication to work and prepare when it s not convenient. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have to know what every teammate is doing on any given play. I also have to figure out what the defense s plan is. In a way, football is like a game of chess, full of calculated risks and strategy. My experience at my position has taught me how and when to take those risks, and when it is best play it safe. The analytical aspect of football is the most crucial and unseen characteristic of the game. The last main characteristic, intangibles, can be described most accurately with the word passion. Passion is what fuels every effort towards success on the field. It is what gets me up early in the summer to workout, or to run and extra sprint when my body aches not to. It s why I ve spent countless hours studying film on opponents. When I have a passion for something, I want to do everything in my power to perform at the best of my ... • 3. Stackelberg Game for Joint Power and Bandwidth Allocations... Amplify and forward cooperative communication scheme is modeled using Stackelberg market framework, where a relay is willing to sell its resources; power and bandwidth to multi user in the system in order to maximize its revenue. The relay determines the prices for relaying users information depending on its available resources and the users demands. Subsequently, each user maximizes its own utility function by determining the optimum power and the optimum bandwidth to buy from the relay. The utility function of the user is formulated as a joint concave function of the power and the bandwidth. The existence and the uniqueness of the Nash equilibriumis investigated using the exact potential game associated with the proposed utility... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The relay re encodes the decoded message and then forwards it to the destination node [5] [7]. The authors in [3], developed performance characterizations in terms of the outage events and the associated outage probabilities. The average symbol error probability (SEP) of cooperative system is used to analyze the performance for various systems and channel models [7]. Single and multiple relay selection were investigated, and several SNR sub optimum multiple relay selection schemes with linear complexity in the number of the relays were proposed in [8]. Game theory is a powerful tool to study interaction among self interested users, it is most used in economics, operations research, political science, etc. [9]. In communication systems and networks game theory has been recently used extensively to model routing, flow control and power control in up link CDMA systems, etc. [10] [14]. Conditions for the existence and the uniqueness of an equilibrium for these models are investigated using the characteristics of the utility function (i.e., quasi concave utility function guarantees the existence of Nash equilibrium [15], the set of pure Nash equilibria of a S modular game is always non empty, and the Nash set has a largest and smallest element [16]. Every finite potential game admits at least one Nash equilibrium, whereas for infinite potential games, sufficient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Role Of Women In The Ancient World As the author, Rachel Wolchin, once said, Behind every great man stands no woman. There is no greater man than the man that can acknowledge the woman standing right next to him. Over the course of history, there has been a progressional change in how society has treated women. Although many times, we notice either an individual or a group of women that have looked past social boundaries and redefined the role of women, there is very little recognition of the accomplishments of these women, and history often encompasses the efforts of men. This is illustrated especially in the studies of ancient civilizations. We notice throughout many eras that the role of women is pertaining to the household or bearing children, and that men were the head... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These were generally influential individuals and leaders, who used many characteristics we associate with success in a way that has left a lasting change in the course of history, such as charisma, confidence, and intellect. They were born to be leaders, and their instinct to grow into one will come naturally in an environment where one is needed. The theory was called the Great Man theory because it was influenced by how society would associate success and strong leadership with traits that can be stereotypically called masculine . Under the belief that women do not possess these characteristics, society would dislike the idea of women in leadership. All the costumes were normal attire people wear everyday. Richard wore a maroon collared shirt, with black dress pants, and had a briefcase that matched his collared shirt. When Richard first walked onto stage I thought he was a businessman because he was clean cut, dressed professionally, and carried a briefcase. Richard s hair color was light grey which means he was an older gentleman like Anne said in the play. The next costume I thought was interesting was the superintendent outfit because it looked like a janitor uniform. When the superintendent made her first appearance she was eating a cookie and taking the garbage can out of the room. Therefore, I initially thought she was just a janitor. Later in the performance the audience found out she was the superintendent in charge of the apartments in the building and also did a lot of repairs. The third costume was Paul s plaid shirts that stood out to the audience. This costume tells the audience about the time the performance is taking place. In today s world people tend not to wear buttoned up plaid shirts because they are out of style. However, back in the 70s plaid shirts were in style and all the men wore them as causal attire. The last costume I thought was interesting was Larry s, the expectant father, he wore a sweater vest and dress pants, his hair was comb to one side, and he wore glasses. This costume tells the audience that he comes from a wealthy yuppy family and is a smart person because he wears nerdy glasses and wears a sweater ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Liberalism Is A Political World View Liberalism is a political world view which was founded on the ideas of liberty, which economically means that the government should not try to control rents, wages and to control prices but to instead let open competition and forces of demand and supply create an equilibrium. The NHS stands for the National Health Service, which provides healthcare for all UK citizens based on their need for healthcare rather than their ability to pay for it. It is funded by taxes. The NHS Scotland 15bn deficit needs to be addressed as the service is over stretched, underfunded and many believe that it will have an negative impact on society if it was to collapse. It is my belief that the NHS Scotland budget has not kept in line with the rising demand for the for services, such as Obesity, Mental Health and the growing population. I believe that to increase NHS funding we need to realistically rethinking our funding strategies and raise the overall level of care while reducing avoidable expenditure . The NHS was founded on 5 July 1948 and I strongly believe that we should take care nurturing our national treasure. In the assignment I hope to accomplish a ... History informs us about the first method the parties developed in order to pick their presidential candidates. This method was the congressional caucus. Are there any side effects that I should be concerned about? These are just a few of the many questions to ask when discussing various types of birth control methods with your doctor. There are many methods of birth control, beginning with abstinence which means having no sexual contact at all, which is 100% effective. The various methods differ greatly and have various rates of effectiveness. Some methods will produce side effects in some patients. There is really no best method of birth control for everyone, but each individual can determine the best choice for themselves with the help of their doctor. Many factors including age and general health come into play when choosing a birth control method. Most birth control methods are used by women, although there are a few options available to men. The decision of which type of birth control method to use is one that should be made by the patient seeking a solution and his/her doctor, after careful review of all factors, which include: How often the patient has sex, the number of sex partners the patient has, if the patient wants to have children someday, how well each method works to prevent pregnancy, the patient s age, the patient s health, possible side effects, or the patient s comfort level with using the method. • 17. Compare Woodchucks And Traveling Through The Dark Human beings are often times very cruel to wild animals. The poems Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford depict two similar cruel interactions with animals. Both poems feature a narrator who treats wild animals as lesser beings for the greater good . However, the narrators do not share the same intentions and guilt. In the end though, both speakers show that they believe they are in a position of higher value than these animals. In Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford, use of diction, imagery, and tone create a tense and brutal mood that reveals the relationship between the speaker and the animals. In the poems, the author s diction helps display the relationship shared between the speaker and the animals. In Woodchucks , diction helps create a relationship where the woodchucks deserve to be killed because the damage they ve done. Kumin uses this as justification for the narrator s malicious slaughtering of the woodchucks; like in line 12, the woodchucks are not eating the carrots, they are beheading them. Replacing the word eating with beheading gives off a violent and negative connotation directed towards the woodchucks. Traveling through the Dark uses a similar strategy to make the animal seem less significant. In line 6, the dead deer is described as a heap . Should a net loss be greater than beginning retained earnings, retained earnings can become negative, creating a deficit. The retained earnings general ledger account is adjusted every time a journal entry is made to an income or expense account When a company generates a profit, management has one of two choices: They can either pay it out to shareholders as a cash dividend, or retain the earnings and reinvest them in the business. When the executives decide that earnings should be retained, they have to account for them on the balance sheet under shareholder equity. This allows investors to see how much money has been put into the business over the years. Once you learn to read the income statement, you can use the retained earnings figure to make a decision on how wisely management is deploying and investing the shareholders money. If you notice a company is plowing all of its earnings back into itself and isn t experiencing exceptionally high growth, you can be sure that the stock holders would be better served if the board of directors declared a dividend. • 20. Stereotypes In Forrest Gump White privilege and stereotypes are two ways race can influence a person s everyday life. White privilege can be defined simply as white people getting special privileges and rights because they are white. This can be seen when a white person gets a job opposed to a person of color or when white people are able to live in nicer neighborhoods while people of color live in crime ridden ones because white peoplehave more wealth. White privilege has become so normal that most people fail to see it in action. Furthermore, stereotypes can have many harmful effects as well. Stereotypes can be defined as distorted views or inaccurate beliefs about a group of people. Not all stereotypes are bad, but many of them are. An example could be saying that all African Americans are good at sports. However, this is not always the case. Stereotypes may sometimes seem harmless, but these beliefs can impact a person s life. White privilege and stereotypes are two different concepts, but they both have similar effects that tend to hurt people of color more than they hurt white people. Both of these ideas appear in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, which was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film depicts white privilege by showing only white people in positions of power, illustrates stereotypes about people of color by having a stereotypical black family, and changes black history by having a white person make achievements that people of color really made. Forrest Gump is a movie that follows a man throughout the story of his life. It starts out with Forrest Gump waiting at a bus stop when the bus arrives and a woman steps out and sits down next to him. He begins to talk to her and he offers her some chocolate. The way he talks hints to the fact that he is not the most intelligent person. He then starts to talk about her shoes which leads him to a flashback of his childhood in Greenbow, Alabama in about 1945. From there he starts to talk about everything that has happened in his life that has led him to where he is now. Being the first Canadian Brewery to tackle an expansion undertaking provided an interesting study for the author. The article discusses the brewery s history and compares the different possibilities that lead to the downfall of the company s American Expansion. Debating with the readers whether the failure was caused by environmental factors or strong personality traits, by not understanding the American consumer base or by not planning for new expenses Bellamy covers many possible angles as to where the collapse could have faulted. Engine breaking, as mentioned in the previous quote, is the process of leaving the car in a selected gear to allow the engines revs to drop with the resistance of the gearbox. The reason for engine breaking is to slow down the vehicle without using the breaks as well as eliminating driver response through not having to switch pedals. Heavy machinery, engineers, laborers, and precision assembly is required for the production of all models and styles of transmissions. When pricing out a new car, you ll find that the same trim and model but with a manual transmission will be a grand or two cheaper than the automatic counterpart. • 35. Components Of Integrated Project Delivery What is Integrated Project Design? There are many different business structures in place which businesses around the world are using today. One of these business structures, used in the design and construction industry, is called Integrated Project Delivery. Integrated Project Delivery is a business style which incorporates all aspects of design throughout the entire design process. This includes, but is not limited to, all participants, business coordination s, and business systems, and the way they interact with the specialties of the participants, in turn producing fluidity within the design and a highly effective final product. The main players within IPD are owners, architect, contractors, designers, sub contractors, consultants and suppliers. Collaboration is key within Integrated Project Delivery (4). In order to create this type of building structure all parties involved must be willing to collaborate. When this happens the result creates an open, shared business model where no information is hidden or lost in communication. This lessens the instance of becoming fragmented and disconnected. Early involvement of all participants from owner to supplier produces a mutual understanding of the goal and outcome of the design and leaves everyone with an equal understanding of the project. At this point in IPD mutual trust can be gained as well as mutual benefit while understanding everyone s role in the process. Team building is another major part of IPD. Under each main ... The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 creates it so farmers do not have the right to fix their own tractors, because of the programming that is in those said tractors.
