Mandatory Non Medical Funding For Children Entering Public...
Choosing to vaccinate or not vaccinate children has become a large topic of contention between
parents and medical personnel. Rates of non medical vaccine exemptions for children entering
public school continue to increase across the country. This increase has coincided with a
resurgence in outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases, or VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.1). There
are a variety of reasons why a family might apply for a non medical exemption and the validity of
these exemptions varies from state to state. Regardless of the justifiability of an exemption,
growing numbers of non vaccinated children entering school will increase the prevalence and
mortality from VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.2). The recommended vaccinations for children entering
kindergarten are 4 doses of diphtheria, tetanus toxoid, and acellular pertussis (DTaP), 2 doses of
the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, and 2 doses of the varicella vaccine. The
national Healthy People 2020 goal for kindergarten vaccinationrates is 95%. Although the majority
of states report vaccination rates at or near the goal, clusters of non vaccinated groups can develop
in some communities (Seither, 2014, p.1). Anthropological studies showed that the higher rates of
non vaccination correlated with outbreaks of diseases for which children typically receive vaccines.
In reaction to numerous outbreaks related to higher rates of non vaccinated children, California and
other states introduced legislation to make it more

The Louisiana Purchase Essays
The Louisiana Purchase was done in the year 1803. In this purchase the United
States of America paid fifteen million dollars to get all the land west of the Mississippi
River and east of the Rocky Mountains. This transaction was done between Thomas
Jefferson and the great Napoleon. The benefits that the United States of America
experienced from this purchase were numerous. For one, it gave the U.S. complete
control of the Mississippi, which in tern helped many farmers with transporting
goods. Second, it more than doubled the size of the United States. With this huge
amounts of land, the government could set up more farms to feed the young but
growing nation. Despite these benefits, however, many people believe ... Show more content on

When the ambassadors have arrived in Paris, they quickly began to negotiate with
Napoleon and his advisors. Napoleon then offered the American ambassadors a deal of a
lifetime the whole Louisiana lands for only fifteen million dollars. Now why would
France want to sell all this land? For one, there was a civil war in the Island of Haiti.
There the slaves have revolted and won independence from France. Napoleon tried
hopelessly to get the Island of Haiti back under control, but it was to no avail. Without
control of Haiti the lands of Louisiana were useless to France, and thus Napoleon decided
to sell it to the Americans. Moreover, Napoleon was planning to conquer all of Europe,
this meant war with Great Britain. Since Napoleon knew that Britain would easily
gain France s overseas lands, he decided to sell them for fifteen million dollars. Robert
Livingston and James Monroe contacted Jefferson, who only wanted to get New Orleans,
for advice, and the final decision. Jefferson, seeing it as an opportunity, agreed to pay
fifteen million dollars to get all of the Louisiana lands. This land sale, probably the
largest in history, was negotiated early in 1803. (Curti 247).
Napoleon s offer to sell land pleased Jefferson, but it also troubled him, for he
believed that the Constitution did not allow him to buy huge amounts of land. This was

The Absent Rainbow in Silicon Valley
Minorities in America are the fastest growing consumers of technology, ranging from smartphones
to social media, But not only are the absent from having any input on how these products are
being created and developed, it is even more difficult to gain entry into. At the heart of the
question is how to develop tech communities of people who don t just consume media, but who
create it and can then use it to solve problems in their communities. While it is apparent that the
population of minorities in Silicon Valley is low, it is difficult to uncover the explanations for
these depressing demographics. There are two categories of intersecting obstacles for minorities
wanting to get a foothold in the technology markets. There is a deficiency in access to technology
and computer science educational programs, and there is a lack of venture capitalavailable to
minorities. These two factors create a deficit of collective capital required for potential minority
entrepreneurs to broker deals for investments.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows that out of the 600,000 people working as computer
and information technology managers, 27 percent are female, 5 percent are African American and 5
percent are Latino. Although 15 percent of the American labor market is Latino and 11 percent is
African American, only 6 percent of Latinos and seven percent of African Americans employed in
America are involved in computer and mathematical jobs and occupations. These numbers illustrate

Labor Unions And The Civil War Essay
Labor unions have existed in one way or another since the birth of our country in 1776. They
were created in an effort to protect the working population from abuses such as sweatshops and
unsafe working conditions. From the start of our Nation there were a few unions organized
unions in a scattered fashion, but many were disbanded after they had achieved their goals, such
as when the printers and shoemakers briefly unionized in Philadelphia and New York City in
1778 to conduct the first recorded strike for higher wages. Three years later in 1971 the first
successful strike happened, when Philadelphia carpenters campaigned for a ten hour workday.
This caused the need for skilled and unskilled laborers to skyrocket during the Industrial
Revolution and the Civil War and also got the ball rolling with Labor unions. At this point in our
Country, there had been nothing done yet for workers rights, conditions, pay, and so on. People
at this time saw that they could come together and do something to make their lives better for
themselves and their families. Many of these dates were important in shaping our country s
labor policies into what they are today. In 1847 New Hampshire enacts as the first state to
enforce a 10 hour workday law. In 1909 the International Ladies Garment workers Union calls a
strike in New York, demanding a 20 percent raise and a 52 hour workweek. Within two days, more
than 20,000 workers from 500 factories walk off the job. This largely successful uprising

can t generally be done with a particular arrangement of steps to consider. You could give a

Note The Idea Keep a logbook of thoughts, a history, a journal before starting board game printing.
That record can be vital to demonstrate your intellectual authenticity. In this way, even the idea

Pros And Cons Of Illegal Immigration
Illegal immigration has been an ineradicable issue for decades. Hundreds of thousands of hopeful
immigrants have illegally entered the United States of America via Mexican border or the Pacific
Ocean whilst others entered the country legally through visit visas yet overstayed and found low
paying jobs to settle in the United Statesof America. Illegal immigrationhas both pros and cons: on
one hand, it helps the local economy as illegal immigrants aren t paid as much as the legal ones
but on the other hand they do not fulfill their taxes. The rise of illegal migration observable in the
past couple of years is a natural human response to the desperate situation of inability to leave the
place where they feel useless. Illegal migration can thus be easily curbed by making legal entry
simpler.
People do not always leave their country with a happy and content heart, most likely because they
can t apprehend their future in their own countries which forces them to look for other options but
when the legal immigration process takes so long, people try to find shortcuts and loopholes.
America is a prosperous nation that attracts immigrants to migrate here and build their future they
couldn t in their own homelands. The idea of deporting all of the illegal immigrants regardless of
their background isn t just unreasonable, its costly and time consuming. The government just can t
go door to door and pull out these immigrants and deport them because this costs an extreme

Communication in Organisation
COMMUNICATION IN AN ORGANIZATION
INTRODUCTION
Humans communicate all the time, and most of the time we do it as a matter of course, without
thinking about it. We can define it in the following way:
пѓ Communication is one of the basic functions of management in any organization and its
importance can hardly be overemphasized. It is a process of transmitting information, ideas,
thoughts, opinions and plans between various parts of an organization.
пѓ Communication is the process of conveying information from a sender to a receiver with the
use of a medium in which the communicated information is understood the same way by both
sender and receiver. Communication is important in an organization because it creates mutual

SM395 Management Internship
Summer 2015
Reflection Paper
This summer during May and June, I attended the internship at a company named Focus on Fur
Animal Wellness and Massage, which is owned by a certified small animal massage practitioner.
We both love animals such as dogs and cats and we both keep a dogat home. Our common points
made us feel connected with each other that we had so many topics especially for dogs to talk
about. In addition, the job contents were mostly related to dogs, which attracted me and made
me want to explore more knowledge in this field. I was responsible for multiple tasks during this
internship, since the company was a small start up company that provided me the opportunity to
handle almost everything that a company needs at the preliminary stage. Before my internship,
I had no real direction of a particular position that I would like to pursue as my future career
goal. I was trying to find an opportunity in which I could gain some working experience as well
as put on my resume. Looking back now, an internship with various tasks helps me realize what I
am willing to do and which aspect I am better with. On the other hand, contrary to the experience
of completing an internship at a standard large firm, this internship allowed me to be more
creative and bold to make decisions instead of doing some fixed tasks with strict rules. My
supervisor had another full time job to take care with, so I worked from home individually, and

Partial Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome Essay
Partial Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome that was the condition spat in my face as the doctor
came in to tell me what was wrong with my child. But don t worry! Corrective surgery can come
to the rescue and fix my child. Basically, my child doesn t have a place in the world unless they fit
the norms, and surgery is the only way to do so. Honestly? Fuck that. The surgery is completely
unnecessary because there aren t any serious medical implications, and would only cause further
harm; raising my child without a forced genderwill allow for both freedom in gender development
as well as avoiding the trauma of incorrect gender assignment. These excruciatingly long past 24

All I remember is asking myself, Why? Why did this happen to my child? How could this
possibly happen? I snapped out of my trance as soon as I heard the word surgery. He
recommended corrective surgery to fix the baby s genitalia so that I could raise my child as a
normal girl. In that moment, I couldn t help all the questions spilling out of my mouth. How bad
was the deformity? Is the surgery obligatory? What are the potential repercussions of opting out of
the surgery?
The surgery makes it easier for your child to identify as either a boy or a girl because as of right
now, it s neither. That was it. The only real reason my child needed surgery was because of an
arbitrary cosmetic requirement for classifying genders. I was speechless, livid, and borderline
aggressive. I told the doctor I needed to sleep and that I d think about it the next morning, but
truth of the matter is that my constant worrying is keeping me up all night. I did manage to get a
few hours of sleep last night. Broken and unrestful, but sleep nonetheless. The first thing I did this
morning was research the condition that my baby was diagnosed with. I discovered that because
of defects in the androgen receptor... the external genitalia of the affected XY individual are
typically ambiguous at birth and the direction of sex assignment of individuals with PAIS depends
to some extent on the appearance of the external genitalia (Hines, 2004). I also learned that the fetus

are hunting. He is focused on surviving and continues to repeat the sentence, I will not lose my
nerve, (13) to himself. Finally, their personalities largely differ. Zaroff lives on a secluded island
with only his bodyguard, Ivan, and his hounds. From this information, it can be inferred that Zaroff
cares more for his game than he does having company. Rainsford, on the other hand, lives in New
York City, which is densely populated. Zaroff also treats Ivan as though he is property, rather than a
friend. When Ivan dies, Zaroff thinks to himself, it would be difficult to replace Ivan. (15), much
like his reaction to losing his best hound. Rainsford, however, treats Whitney as a friend, rather than
just a hunting partner. When Whitney and Rainsford are speaking about what an animal feels,
Rainsford replies to Whitney with a laugh, Nonsense. This hot weather is making you soft. The way
he speaks to Whitney and treats Whitney shows that

A Chair For My Mother Character Analysis
Since before a child has been born they have introduced to the world of reading. Reading goes far
beyond education, it creates a relationship between parent and child, provides fundamentals of
language and speech skills, and helps to communicate society s values. The values that are taught
through books can be positive or negative and be stated implicitly or explicitly. The values that are
taught also transition, as a child grows older. In the book, A Chair for My Mother by Vera B.
Williams, they discuss the values of empathy and kindness. The Butterfly, by Patricia Polaccco,
combines values of altruism, empathy, and kindness, with culture roles and conflict. The Berenstain

While you should always be kind and loyal to your friends, you should always be loyal to
yourself first. This concept is represented in the book The Berenstain Bears and the In Crowd,
when sister is faced between the decision to fit in or be herself and she chooses to be herself
(Berenstain, 1989). There are many ways values that could be placed on this situation, but I
think it came down to her being loyal to herself. Likewise, it shows the value of good friends.
Even though Queenie tried to buy sister s friends with ice cream they still chose to be on her
team (Berenstain, 1989). While that was nice of Queenie s friends I think there were problems
in this book showing the true meaning of friendships is not who is the best at sports, nicest
clothes, or buys their friends gifts, but how they treat your friends. Like many books that may
not be clear in their values, or the values may be skewed it can be used as a lesson or comparison
between right and wrong. The book, Flipped, takes a different approach on friendship. Juli has
always been a true friend and been there for Bryce since the day he moved next door, it isn t
until Bryce makes a mean comment about Julies uncle that she realizes Bryce is not a true friend.
Once Juli decides not to be friends or make an effort, Bryce realizes what a great friend she was to

The Canadian author Alice Munro was born July 10, 1931 in Wingham, Ontario. She is popularly
known as the most important short story writer in Canada along within the English speaking
community as well. She was awarded as the first Canadian Nobel Prize winner in 2013. Alice
Munro narrates her short stories in an analytical manner of the protagonist, reflecting on their
experiences to outline a more in depth meaning. The central idea is a recurring idea through the
experiences of the characters within the short story. Similarly, in her short story the Gravel, the

Not a large one but hollowed... (Munro, 254), this helps readers identify that the narrator is
looking back into the past, their childhood. Memory is the empowering representation of human
existence and the basis of how our mental life is shaped. She states that there many memories she
recalls and many that she assumes to understand with no certainty. As the narrator discusses her
own memories, she is in the process of resolving the conflicts and contradictions she believes is
related to Caro s death. The narrator remembers the accident taking place due to her lack of
concern and therefore she puts herself at fault. Psychologically it is possible to form a memory
that is misread or misinterpreted, and likewise this is what the professional the narrator had met
to deal with her grief had tried to convince her with. The professional, possibly a grief councillor,
had provided her with a scenario where she was incapable of opening the door, resulting to Caro
s death. The narrator was satisfied with this conclusion just for a while till she returned to her
observation of the memory. Her guilt lied in the factual matter of not doing anything to help her
sister; realistically as a child she was convinced that Caro would save herself since dogs did not
need saving from bodies of water. Memory here describes an individual s struggle to recollect the
past and with being conscious to those memories

Essay On Genetic Change
( removed HTML ) How is the Field of Human Genetics Changing? ( removed HTML )
Compared to just fifteen years ago the applications and horizons of genetic science have expanded
enormously, far beyond simply describing how DNA contributes to the formation of life here on
earth. The most important practical advances have built on the completion of the Human Genome
Project in 2003, started in 1990. At the associated research cost of over $3 billion US dollars
(c.$2.7 billion actual), a combined research initiative succeeded in fully sequencing the genomic
makeup of one human.
The prototype for human gene sequencing via chemical analysis that this process gave to science
has been refined over the last decade. Continuous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The complete implications and structure of our individual, unique genetic codes are still not
fully understood. However, genetic sequencing and research in the biological sciences have
opened up the potential to diagnose and treat genetic illnesses and key health vulnerabilities
through sequencing analysis at all stages of life. Doctors are better placed to identify the root
genetic causes of disorders and illnesses, as advances in associating certain bits of genetic code
to certain outcomes have expanded the number of known genetic links to maladies from 60 in
1990 to over 5000 (as of 2013). Future analysis of so called junk DNA with no obvious associations
to gene expression will form a large part of raising that number even further.
Individual genomic analysis allows for better targeted medication and the identification of tumor
causing DNA code. Pre natal genetic screening for genetic disorders and disabilities in a fetus can
also be performed via blood testing, reducing the need for other, invasive forms of medical testing.
The newly developed gene editing tool, CRISPR, also offers the possibility of eliminating or
changing defective genomic sections easily. While designer babies may still be science fiction,
these recent advances in genetic technology have taken us much closer to the possibility and ethical
implications of creating bespoke human beings.
From this, it seems that genetic

Ethnic Conflict In The Bosnian Genocide
Bosnia is a complicated country: three religions, three nations and those others . Nationalism is
strong in all three nations; in two of them there are a lot of racism, chauvinism, separatism; and
now we are supposed to make a state out of that ( Alija Izetbegovic Quote ). This quote clearly
reflects the Bosnian ethnic conflict. It states seemingly that there is a lot of racism between each
ethics and they want their own state. The ethnic conflict occurred in a really long time since
Bosnian separated from Yugoslavia. Then, there is Bosnian Genocide that took place between 1992
and 1995. The Bosnian Genocide was the conflict between Serbs and Bosnian Muslims, the ethnic
conflict, was stopped by the NATO and United Nation.
Bosnia had the ethnic conflict that continued from the Yugoslavia, The Socialist Federal Republic
of Yugoslaviawas one of the more liberal communist regimes, led by the enigmatic dictator Josip
Broz Tito (Krkljes, Sandro). After Tito died, the ethnic conflicts started to raise. The main ethnic

In this manner my strong family values further shows that I display the characteristics of an
affiliative person since I value relationships above all else (International, Affiliative, 2011)
One of my styles that was identified on the LSI survey that works against me is my drive to do
my best at all I do. In a small way I attach self worth to my work and projects. I do not think that I
am a perfectionist as the survey list me, but I do think that the desire to produce flawless
products that whow others is something I need to work on. I have grown less attached to the
desire to whow others over the last 3 years, since I have realized that even a whow given to me
now will not be remembered in 6 months. To be perfect sets a person up for an even larger fall
when mistakes are made. The team that I lead in Afghanistan has learned from experience that I
expect them to perform well but understand and accept when perfect is not obtainable. I had
several talks with them while in deployed and explained that my only wish was for them to come
home safely. Delivering a perfect no mistake mission while in combat was unrealistic and out of
the question. As long as safety to my team was obtained all else could fail an outsiders inspection.
By allowing a less than perfect product, there, I won the respect of my team. Learning to lower my

Hellenistic Art
The Silk Road had established a long and interesting history with trade, that enabled many different
cultures to have connections. These connections have had an influence on clothing, architecture,
music, art and sculptures. After the conquest of Gandhara by Alexander the Great, the classical
world of Roman art influenced these region s taste with a new look for art and sculptures.
Alexander s expansion into northwest Pakistan changed the approach in creating Bodhisattva
sculptures, taking on the influence of the Hellenistic features. Furthermore, with the connections

Gandhara s sculptures range in many different shapes and size. These consist of Bodhisattva
torsos, heads, and even rock reliefs. In the earlier Kushan period, the head sculptures had traces
of an adorned look and feel to it but was still pretty simplified. They displayed the sculpture
relatively flat on the front and the back of the head with open eyes and the fleshy lips. A
suggestion of braiding around the forehead gives the sense of the Bodhisattva wearing a turban,
and of course the heavy spiral earrings. All these features appeared around the first century. The
knowledge of Stanislaw J. Czuma stated, the sharp , angular details of the upper portion of this
head relate it to sculptural developments in the late second century, the lower half of the face with
its pliant surfaces and ample curves of the lips (83). This is showing the changes in details and form
that the Bodhisattva sculptures are beginning to show as time goes into the next century. Then in
330 B.C., Alexander the Great conquered northwest Pakistan with his indo Greek kings who
succeeded him, and brought in the classical traditions to this region. The Bodhisattva sculptures can

Essay On Abigail Adams
With the increase in popularity of the musical Hamilton: An American Musical, the stories of the
founding fathers are getting told. However, though there are a few females mentioned in the
musical, none of them made as much of an impact and deserve as much credit as Abigail Adams.
Born Abigail Smith in 1744, she grew up in Massachusetts with a decently wealthy family, which
resulted in the opportunity to obtain a good education. Though she was schooled at home, she read
all she could and took an interest in knowledge and politics early in her life, which only grew with
her marriage to John Adams(Martinez). With this marriage, she became involved in a great deal of
politics, and therefore had influence, which she most commonly used in her... Show more content

Abigail herself educated a free black boy, and even defended herself when she was attacked for
it. In a private defense of her actions to John Adams, she explains her reasoning for doing this,
saying: The Boy is a Freeman as much as any of the young Men, and merely because his Face is
Black, is he to be denied instruction? How is he to be qualified to procure a livelihood? Is this
the Christian principle of doing to others, as we would have others do to us? (Adams, Abigail 13
February 1797). This piece of the letter ensures two facts: that Abigail is an advocator for justice,
and that she is an advocator for Christianity. However, unlike many people at the time, her advocacy
for justice speaks much louder than her Christian advocacy.
One of Abigail s other main focuses was female empowerment, and not just through education:
she recognized the effectiveness of her own power around the home, and wanted other women to
use their potential as well. One of Abigail s most notable positions of power was her relationship
not only with her husband, John Adams, but also his presidential successor, Thomas Jefferson.
Abigail not only had relationships with both of them, but also served as a key witness to what life
was like in the colonies and out of congress, both domestically and politically (Adams, Abigail 1
July 1804). She also used this position to speak out against

Affirmative Action And Its Effect On Minority Minorities...
Affirmative action is described in sociology as, policies and programs that aim to avoid
discrimination and redress past discrimination through the active recruitment of qualified minorities
for jobs, promotions, and educational opportunities. (i.e. Exp. Soc., pg 280). In other words, the
law was put in place as an attempt to create pluralism in the United Statesstructure of opportunity.
When describing affirmative action, the generalized assumption is individuals being handed
opportunities based only on their ethnicity. Whether or not that opinion rings through to the
majority, consider the events that lead to the enactment of affirmative action in the first place. The
structure of opportunity in the United States has always been a biased and unfair in its distribution
of opportunities. Since the beginning, the structure of opportunity has always been in favor of
whiter, and ultimately wealthier Americans. Segregation, discrimination, and complete disregard for
people of different ethnicity and color made it as such.
People of color were seen as an inferior, and ultimately poorer group of people than people who
were white. In earlier time, a metaphorical glass ceiling held back student of different ethnicity
from becoming more educated. The glass ceiling that held them back for so long was the structure
of opportunity being as biased as it is. In essence, the economic conditions, culture, and other
aspects of certain people had an impact on how they lived in society.

third person point of view. The camera is in Jean s point of view for majority of the film. The
movie does a really good job with giving it from the main actor s point of view, and giving an

For the most part, America employs single member districts which means that the electorate only
chooses one representative from each district. During presidential elections, every state is given
votes through the electoral college which equals to the amount of U.S. senators and House
members. Single member districts tend to weaken third parties. In 1992, an Individual named
Ross Perot ran for the presidential election and although he gained 19% of the popular votes, he
didn t receive any electoral votes. This happened because the Electoral College leverages the two

governments like Sweden elect legislators in multimember districts instead of single member
districts, and the number of seats that a party wins is proportional to the amount of its support
among voters. For example, In Sweden 310 seats are allocated in 29 constituencies. This helps

How Is Ancient Egypt Different From Our Culture
Did you know that the Egyptians kids were naked untill they were six years old? If you are six
years old or younger you would be naked right now if you lived in the Ancient Egypt time. The
Egyptians had many different cultures than us. Clothings, jewelry, makeup, and etc. are some
examples that were different than our culture. Clothing is very different than us. Most of the men
in working classes wore either loincloth or short kilt and sometimes a type of shirt. Women wore
straight dresses with one or two straps. Animal skins, above all leopard skins, worn by priests and
by pharaohs. At times Kings and Queens wore ceremonial clothing adorned with feathers.
Another example is the jewelry. Specific materials, colours, and designs were often associated with
certain gods or goddesses or magical qualities of protection. Any changes to these could affect the
spiritual value of the items. Everyone wore jewelry in Ancient Egypt, from poor farmers to wethly
royals. For the wealthy, pieces were made from semi precious ... Show more content on

Egyptians appeared to care a great deal about the way they looked. Pharaohs had their own
hairdressers and manicurists and cosmetics was big business. Archaeologists have unearthed
mirrors, hair pins, makeup containers, brushes and other items. On special occasions ancient
Egyptians wore greasy cones of fragrance on their head that melted in the heat and dripped
perfume on their wigs. To decorate their eyes, the Ancient Egyptians used black and green
paints. The black paint was derived from powdered galena (now known as kohl) and it was
supposed to protect eyes from the hot sun. The green paint was derived from malachite powder (a
green coloured mineral) and was used because it would make eyes appear larger. In addition, green
paint was believed to invoke the eye of Horus, the god of The Sky Sun and also of healing. For this
reason, the Egyptians thought green paint would protect those who wore

experienced one of the most violent riots in the history of American Correctional System. This is
often referred to as The New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot. The riot lasted for 36 hours, and in

This gave birth to great confusion on all administrative levels and consequently the administration
began to pass vague judgments. The whole haphazard scenario of the administrational structure
gave birth to a mid level clique of administrators who were virtually unaccountable to anyone in
authority for their actions.
Following the change in prison leadership in the mid 1970s, the prison experienced a shortage of
trained correctional staff. A subsequent investigation by the state attorney general s office found
that prison officials began coercing prisoners to become informants in a strategy known as the
snitch game . The state s report said that retribution for snitching led to an increased incidence of
violence at the prison in the late 1970s. By the end of 1978, this clique of administrators were left
to do whatever they wanted to the prison which caused great unrest amongst the inmates and
eventually forced them towards mutiny. Another major cause of the riot was the cancellation of
educational, recreational and other rehabilitative programs that had run from 1970 to 1975. In that
five year period, the prison had been described as relatively calm. When the educational and
recreational programs were stopped in 1975, prisoners had to be locked down for long periods.
These conditions created strong feelings of deprivation and discontent in the inmate population that

John Cheever s Personal Connection to The Swimmer
Why do people read literature? The definition of literature is a writing of some sort in which
expression and form are characteristics or features of the writing. It can come in the form of
poetry, novels, biographies, or essays. There are a couple of main reasons people usually read
literature. People usually read for an escape from life, to learn something new, to confront human
experience, or simply for pleasure. One of the more popular of those four is to confront human
experience. They use what the author writes down and apply it to their daily life. Authors
sometimes do that too. They write down their own experiences to give the audience pleasure, or to
realize that they shouldn t make the same mistakes. When it comes to... Show more content on

After reading his journals and then going back and re reading his stories, it became clear he had
put himself in the characters. They were all adults, full of darkness, corruption, and confusion. They
were all conflicted in their lives, going from happiness in the beginning to depression in the end
(Cooke 39). Although John Cheever was not understood well, he had a knack for telling the brutal
honesty of suburbia life in America. Perhaps that is his lasting legacy.
Literary Analysis In a story, an author has the difficult task of telling a whole tale with compelling
emotion and a meaningful message. Many wonder how an author gets all of their ideas. One way
an author can get their ideas is through their own life. That is called parallelism. John Cheever is,
again, the master of this technique. Living in the suburbs, he always told a story of an adult with a
dark story to tell. The Swimmer is nothing different. In this short story, Neddy says he is going to
swim home from a neighbor s pool and encounters many demons during the sequence. The
demons Neddy meets on his way are another way of Cheever putting himself and his own demons
in his work. Everyone knows by now that Cheever had a problem with alcohol. He starts off in in
the first paragraph with everyone talking about how they drank too much, multiple times (1). This
implies that Neddy was drinking as well, for in

Reforming the NSA to Restore U.S. Credibility
Introduction On June 6, 2013, The Guardian published a story about the National Security Agency
s (NSA) secret Internet surveillance program, PRISM (Greenwald and MacAskill 2013). The
story was based on documents leaked by one of the most successful whistle blowers in American
history, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The documents that Snowden has released up to
this time have shown the NSA to be heavily engaged in the collection of personal Internet activity,
bulk collection of telephone metadata, and other forms of surveillance that have brought U.S.
intelligence practices into question. Claiming its actions are related to the War on Terror, the NSA
has insisted that these programs are legal, have not been abused, and are vital to preventing terror
attacks. The leaked programs have not only created domestic furor, but also put U.S. diplomatic
relations with its allies in jeopardy. With the overthrow of the Ukrainian government creating
tension between the U.S. and Russia, Snowden s asylum in Russia is a political and diplomatic
blow to U.S. prestige and moral authority. And with the threat of further Snowden leaks looming,
future U.S. intelligence operations may hinge on the willingness of Washington to alter its policies.
Benefits of the Programs The potential benefits of the NSA s surveillance programs have been
described by the Obama administration as vital to the War on Terror. The two programs that have
received the most attention are the collection

are forever looking back with love and nostalgia at the lives they couldn t wait to leave. People

forth from college students consuming too much alcohol. Seaman talks about how the drinking law

should be lowered. In my opinion the law should not be changed to a lower age but a higher one.
The reasoning behind this is that if we raise the legal drinking age to 25 or 26 let s say, then it

will also be viewed the four major biological macromolecules as are carbohydrates (such as sugars),

the large molecules are formed due to condensation and hydrolysis reaction. First of all, let s

Consequently, it is comprehended as one the first of the Latter Prophets in the Hebrew Bible and

Up From Slavery by Booker T. Washington is an autobiography in which the highly influential
Washington reveals his thoughts as he emerged from an ex slave in Virginia to becoming a
educator and founder of one of the most important schools for African Americans in the South.
Washington takes his narrative through the post Reconstruction period, one of the most dynamic
and politically driven times in American history. Throughout the autobiography, Washington shows
the connection between education, race and the importance of achieving equality for African
Americans through education.
Washington was born into slavery with his birth date unknown. He describes his life living as a
slave and the hardships they went through on a daily basis. As he

Food And Food Waste
Food waste has become of great concern throughout recent years. It is estimated that 50 percent of
all globally produced food is wasted. (Barthel, Macnaughton, Parfitt, 2010). Contrary to this, there
are 42.2 million people who live in food insecure homes in America alone (USDA, 2015). How do
people go hungry when there is so much foodthat is just being wasted? To know this, it is important
to first understand why food is being wasted.
The idea to consume beyond normal levels of need comes from various environmental factors,
some of which trick people psychologically. For example, larger plates, portion sizes, and
unportioned servings have lead people to consume more than what is ideal (Ledikwe, Ello Martin,
Rolls, 2005). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This lead the rats that had consumed junk food to become addicted to it in the same way as a
drug addiction would occur (Avena, Radal, Hoebel, 2007). From this study, one can conclude that
those who consume junk food often are more likely to become addicted to it and overeat, creating
over consumption of nutrient poor foods in lower income persons. Location is another factor that
plays into this. Those that live further from grocery stores with fresh produce are more likely to
shop at convenience stores that contain more processed food and less fruits and vegetables
(Inagami, Cohen, Finch, Asch, 2006). This also plays into the overconsumption of processed foods
among low income individuals, confining many in more impoverished areas to less than adequate
stores with limited options.
Society can t accuse consumers of 100 percent of the overconsumption problem, certain institutions
can also be condemned for their unethical behaviors. For centuries, companies have become
extremely efficient in attracting customers to their product or service. Marketing is often identified
as a major promoter to the declination of our environment in regards to overconsumption. In a
recent focus group, people were asked why they consume more than they need. An overwhelming
response pinned the blame on marketing and it was clear that the focus members were very critical
of marketers (Heath and Chatzidakis, 2011). Every which way one turns, they will see

The Church Of Christ Since I
I have always gone to Madison Church of Christ since I was born; it is a small town country
church with about 125 people who attend. I ve gone to different churches through a high school
singing group, New Way Singers, and I have certain aspects that I do look for in a church. I m
not completely opposed to trying other services, but I have never been to a Catholic service.
When speaking to friends about beliefs, all of us understood that there are a lot of differences
between Protestant and Catholic beliefs. There have also been a lot of debates in lunch
conversations about this. So when I heard about this paper, it was a sort of obvious choice that I
attend the St. Patrick s Catholic Churchin Brooklyn and see what Catholic Mass was like... Show

My pastor had funny skits, wrote songs, played old rock and roll music, and other random
openers that he would use to relate the sermon. It s just different ways of how our church works.
For communion at my church, we use grape juice and small rectangular communal bread in
place of the wine and wafers that St. Patrick s Catholic Church uses. This isn t a big problem for
me though; to me, this is just a symbol and helps remind you what Jesus did to save us. I don t
know that the items used are of so much importance if God is still respected and put at the
forefront of the mind. I ve even used apple juice and cereal when I had a youth gathering one time.
Even if I did have an opinion on what was used, it wouldn t have mattered. I learned that since I am
not Catholic, I can t take in the Catholic communion, which is also called the Eucharist. At first, I
felt a little weird about that since my church allows anyone that is baptized to take in communion
whether they are of our denomination or not, but that difference between our churches isn t of
much significance to me. I realized that ours isn t too much different since we want people to be
baptized before they take communion. The general mood of the service made me think of the word
reverence . They make it seem very formal and

How Do We Dependent On Technology
As I said in my previous essay, not many people realize it, but the human race desperately
depends on technology for existence. Although depending on things such as computers, cellular
devices, and search engines comes with very helpful and developmental research, it has also
come with many negative effects. Technology has literally affected all aspects of life for every
living person. To the point where it has made people lazy, taken their jobs, and has even made
people addicted to social networking. Some examples of problems are constant use of social
media, texting and driving incidents, cyberbullying, and even cheating on tests or exams. I
believe that we ve become evermore negatively dependent on technology because humans now
feel the need to socialize and connect with one another more frequently than they did before the
turn of the 21st century. I strongly believe that all the problems that I listed a bove do have a
solution to them. Focusing on the technology that is used most commonly, which are laptops,
computers, and cell phones, I would like to specifically write about the topic of using a cellular
device while driving, and cyberbullying. The reason why I decided to use the term using a
cellular device while driving is because nowadays people not only text and drive, but they also use
social platforms such as instagram, snapchat, and even facebook. The increase in social media use
also increases the rate of bullyingthat is done online. These two are the major causes of feeling the
need to connect with one another. The constant texting and the boost of social media use.
There are many ways that distracted driving can affect you. In the article How Far Does Your
Vehicle Travel While Looking at Your Cell Phone, author Tony Summerville states that, Sending
or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. AT 55 mph, that s like driving the
length of an entire football field, blindfolded. A lot can happen in those hundred yards that a
person travels while they re distracted. The worst thing that could ever happen in the event of a car
accident due to distracted driving would have to be death, or even a severe injury. If a person is
lucky multitask without making mistake while

  • 3. Mandatory Non Medical Funding For Children Entering Public... Choosing to vaccinate or not vaccinate children has become a large topic of contention between parents and medical personnel. Rates of non medical vaccine exemptions for children entering public school continue to increase across the country. This increase has coincided with a resurgence in outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases, or VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.1). There are a variety of reasons why a family might apply for a non medical exemption and the validity of these exemptions varies from state to state. Regardless of the justifiability of an exemption, growing numbers of non vaccinated children entering school will increase the prevalence and mortality from VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.2). The recommended vaccinations for children entering kindergarten are 4 doses of diphtheria, tetanus toxoid, and acellular pertussis (DTaP), 2 doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, and 2 doses of the varicella vaccine. The national Healthy People 2020 goal for kindergarten vaccinationrates is 95%. Although the majority of states report vaccination rates at or near the goal, clusters of non vaccinated groups can develop in some communities (Seither, 2014, p.1). Anthropological studies showed that the higher rates of non vaccination correlated with outbreaks of diseases for which children typically receive vaccines. In reaction to numerous outbreaks related to higher rates of non vaccinated children, California and other states introduced legislation to make it more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this purchase the United States of America paid fifteen million dollars to get all the land west of the Mississippi River and east of the Rocky Mountains. This transaction was done between Thomas Jefferson and the great Napoleon. The benefits that the United States of America experienced from this purchase were numerous. For one, it gave the U.S. complete control of the Mississippi, which in tern helped many farmers with transporting goods. Second, it more than doubled the size of the United States. With this huge amounts of land, the government could set up more farms to feed the young but growing nation. Despite these benefits, however, many people believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the ambassadors have arrived in Paris, they quickly began to negotiate with Napoleon and his advisors. Napoleon then offered the American ambassadors a deal of a lifetime the whole Louisiana lands for only fifteen million dollars. Now why would France want to sell all this land? For one, there was a civil war in the Island of Haiti. There the slaves have revolted and won independence from France. Napoleon tried hopelessly to get the Island of Haiti back under control, but it was to no avail. Without control of Haiti the lands of Louisiana were useless to France, and thus Napoleon decided to sell it to the Americans. Moreover, Napoleon was planning to conquer all of Europe, this meant war with Great Britain. Since Napoleon knew that Britain would easily gain France s overseas lands, he decided to sell them for fifteen million dollars. Robert Livingston and James Monroe contacted Jefferson, who only wanted to get New Orleans, for advice, and the final decision. Jefferson, seeing it as an opportunity, agreed to pay

  • 6. The Absent Rainbow in Silicon Valley Minorities in America are the fastest growing consumers of technology, ranging from smartphones to social media, But not only are the absent from having any input on how these products are being created and developed, it is even more difficult to gain entry into. At the heart of the question is how to develop tech communities of people who don t just consume media, but who create it and can then use it to solve problems in their communities. While it is apparent that the population of minorities in Silicon Valley is low, it is difficult to uncover the explanations for these depressing demographics. There are two categories of intersecting obstacles for minorities wanting to get a foothold in the technology markets. There is a deficiency in access to technology and computer science educational programs, and there is a lack of venture capitalavailable to minorities. These two factors create a deficit of collective capital required for potential minority entrepreneurs to broker deals for investments. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows that out of the 600,000 people working as computer and information technology managers, 27 percent are female, 5 percent are African American and 5 percent are Latino. • 7. Labor Unions And The Civil War Essay Labor unions have existed in one way or another since the birth of our country in 1776. They were created in an effort to protect the working population from abuses such as sweatshops and unsafe working conditions. From the start of our Nation there were a few unions organized unions in a scattered fashion, but many were disbanded after they had achieved their goals, such as when the printers and shoemakers briefly unionized in Philadelphia and New York City in 1778 to conduct the first recorded strike for higher wages. Three years later in 1971 the first successful strike happened, when Philadelphia carpenters campaigned for a ten hour workday. This caused the need for skilled and unskilled laborers to skyrocket during the Industrial Revolution and the Civil War and also got the ball rolling with Labor unions. At this point in our Country, there had been nothing done yet for workers rights, conditions, pay, and so on. People at this time saw that they could come together and do something to make their lives better for themselves and their families. Many of these dates were important in shaping our country s labor policies into what they are today. In 1847 New Hampshire enacts as the first state to enforce a 10 hour workday law. In 1909 the International Ladies Garment workers Union calls a strike in New York, demanding a 20 percent raise and a 52 hour workweek. Within two days, more than 20,000 workers from 500 factories walk off the job. This largely successful uprising ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hundreds of thousands of hopeful immigrants have illegally entered the United States of America via Mexican border or the Pacific Ocean whilst others entered the country legally through visit visas yet overstayed and found low paying jobs to settle in the United Statesof America. Illegal immigrationhas both pros and cons: on one hand, it helps the local economy as illegal immigrants aren t paid as much as the legal ones but on the other hand they do not fulfill their taxes. The rise of illegal migration observable in the past couple of years is a natural human response to the desperate situation of inability to leave the place where they feel useless. People do not always leave their country with a happy and content heart, most likely because they can t apprehend their future in their own countries which forces them to look for other options but when the legal immigration process takes so long, people try to find shortcuts and loopholes. This concept is represented in the book The Berenstain Bears and the In Crowd, when sister is faced between the decision to fit in or be herself and she chooses to be herself (Berenstain, 1989). There are many ways values that could be placed on this situation, but I think it came down to her being loyal to herself. Likewise, it shows the value of good friends. Even though Queenie tried to buy sister s friends with ice cream they still chose to be on her team (Berenstain, 1989). While that was nice of Queenie s friends I think there were problems in this book showing the true meaning of friendships is not who is the best at sports, nicest clothes, or buys their friends gifts, but how they treat your friends. However, genetic sequencing and research in the biological sciences have opened up the potential to diagnose and treat genetic illnesses and key health vulnerabilities through sequencing analysis at all stages of life. Doctors are better placed to identify the root genetic causes of disorders and illnesses, as advances in associating certain bits of genetic code to certain outcomes have expanded the number of known genetic links to maladies from 60 in 1990 to over 5000 (as of 2013). Future analysis of so called junk DNA with no obvious associations to gene expression will form a large part of raising that number even further. These consist of Bodhisattva torsos, heads, and even rock reliefs. In the earlier Kushan period, the head sculptures had traces of an adorned look and feel to it but was still pretty simplified. They displayed the sculpture relatively flat on the front and the back of the head with open eyes and the fleshy lips. A suggestion of braiding around the forehead gives the sense of the Bodhisattva wearing a turban, and of course the heavy spiral earrings. All these features appeared around the first century. The knowledge of Stanislaw J. Czuma stated, the sharp , angular details of the upper portion of this head relate it to sculptural developments in the late second century, the lower half of the face with its pliant surfaces and ample curves of the lips (83). This is showing the changes in details and form that the Bodhisattva sculptures are beginning to show as time goes into the next century. Then in 330 B.C., Alexander the Great conquered northwest Pakistan with his indo Greek kings who succeeded him, and brought in the classical traditions to this region. • 23. Essay On Abigail Adams With the increase in popularity of the musical Hamilton: An American Musical, the stories of the founding fathers are getting told. However, though there are a few females mentioned in the musical, none of them made as much of an impact and deserve as much credit as Abigail Adams. Born Abigail Smith in 1744, she grew up in Massachusetts with a decently wealthy family, which resulted in the opportunity to obtain a good education. Though she was schooled at home, she read all she could and took an interest in knowledge and politics early in her life, which only grew with her marriage to John Adams(Martinez). Abigail herself educated a free black boy, and even defended herself when she was attacked for it. In a private defense of her actions to John Adams, she explains her reasoning for doing this, saying: The Boy is a Freeman as much as any of the young Men, and merely because his Face is Black, is he to be denied instruction? How is he to be qualified to procure a livelihood? Is this the Christian principle of doing to others, as we would have others do to us? (Adams, Abigail 13 February 1797). This piece of the letter ensures two facts: that Abigail is an advocator for justice, and that she is an advocator for Christianity. However, unlike many people at the time, her advocacy for justice speaks much louder than her Christian advocacy. One of Abigail s other main focuses was female empowerment, and not just through education: she recognized the effectiveness of her own power around the home, and wanted other women to use their potential as well. One of Abigail s most notable positions of power was her relationship not only with her husband, John Adams, but also his presidential successor, Thomas Jefferson. Abigail not only had relationships with both of them, but also served as a key witness to what life was like in the colonies and out of congress, both domestically and politically (Adams, Abigail 1 July 1804). • 24. Affirmative Action And Its Effect On Minority Minorities... Affirmative action is described in sociology as, policies and programs that aim to avoid discrimination and redress past discrimination through the active recruitment of qualified minorities for jobs, promotions, and educational opportunities. (i.e. Exp. Soc., pg 280). In other words, the law was put in place as an attempt to create pluralism in the United Statesstructure of opportunity. When describing affirmative action, the generalized assumption is individuals being handed opportunities based only on their ethnicity. Whether or not that opinion rings through to the majority, consider the events that lead to the enactment of affirmative action in the first place. The structure of opportunity in the United States has always been a biased and unfair in its distribution of opportunities. Since the beginning, the structure of opportunity has always been in favor of whiter, and ultimately wealthier Americans. Segregation, discrimination, and complete disregard for people of different ethnicity and color made it as such. People of color were seen as an inferior, and ultimately poorer group of people than people who were white. In earlier time, a metaphorical glass ceiling held back student of different ethnicity from becoming more educated. The glass ceiling that held them back for so long was the structure of opportunity being as biased as it is. In essence, the economic conditions, culture, and other aspects of certain people had an impact on how they lived in society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is often referred to as The New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot. The riot lasted for 36 hours, and in those 36 hours there were 33 deaths. The whole haphazard scenario of the administrational structure gave birth to a mid level clique of administrators who were virtually unaccountable to anyone in authority for their actions. Following the change in prison leadership in the mid 1970s, the prison experienced a shortage of trained correctional staff. A subsequent investigation by the state attorney general s office found that prison officials began coercing prisoners to become informants in a strategy known as the snitch game . The state s report said that retribution for snitching led to an increased incidence of violence at the prison in the late 1970s. By the end of 1978, this clique of administrators were left to do whatever they wanted to the prison which caused great unrest amongst the inmates and eventually forced them towards mutiny. Another major cause of the riot was the cancellation of educational, recreational and other rehabilitative programs that had run from 1970 to 1975. In that five year period, the prison had been described as relatively calm. When the educational and recreational programs were stopped in 1975, prisoners had to be locked down for long periods. • 29. John Cheever s Personal Connection to The Swimmer Why do people read literature? The definition of literature is a writing of some sort in which expression and form are characteristics or features of the writing. It can come in the form of poetry, novels, biographies, or essays. There are a couple of main reasons people usually read literature. People usually read for an escape from life, to learn something new, to confront human experience, or simply for pleasure. One of the more popular of those four is to confront human experience. They use what the author writes down and apply it to their daily life. Authors sometimes do that too. They write down their own experiences to give the audience pleasure, or to realize that they shouldn t make the same mistakes. When it comes to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After reading his journals and then going back and re reading his stories, it became clear he had put himself in the characters. They were all adults, full of darkness, corruption, and confusion. They were all conflicted in their lives, going from happiness in the beginning to depression in the end (Cooke 39). Although John Cheever was not understood well, he had a knack for telling the brutal honesty of suburbia life in America. Perhaps that is his lasting legacy. Literary Analysis In a story, an author has the difficult task of telling a whole tale with compelling emotion and a meaningful message. Many wonder how an author gets all of their ideas. One way an author can get their ideas is through their own life. That is called parallelism. John Cheever is, again, the master of this technique. Living in the suburbs, he always told a story of an adult with a dark story to tell. The Swimmer is nothing different. In this short story, Neddy says he is going to swim home from a neighbor s pool and encounters many demons during the sequence. The demons Neddy meets on his way are another way of Cheever putting himself and his own demons in his work. Everyone knows by now that Cheever had a problem with alcohol. He starts off in in the first paragraph with everyone talking about how they drank too much, multiple times (1). This implies that Neddy was drinking as well, for in ... The story was based on documents leaked by one of the most successful whistle blowers in American history, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The documents that Snowden has released up to this time have shown the NSA to be heavily engaged in the collection of personal Internet activity, bulk collection of telephone metadata, and other forms of surveillance that have brought U.S. intelligence practices into question. Claiming its actions are related to the War on Terror, the NSA has insisted that these programs are legal, have not been abused, and are vital to preventing terror attacks. The leaked programs have not only created domestic furor, but also put U.S. diplomatic relations with its allies in jeopardy. With the overthrow of the Ukrainian government creating tension between the U.S. and Russia, Snowden s asylum in Russia is a political and diplomatic blow to U.S. prestige and moral authority. For communion at my church, we use grape juice and small rectangular communal bread in place of the wine and wafers that St. Patrick s Catholic Church uses. This isn t a big problem for me though; to me, this is just a symbol and helps remind you what Jesus did to save us. I don t know that the items used are of so much importance if God is still respected and put at the forefront of the mind. I ve even used apple juice and cereal when I had a youth gathering one time. Even if I did have an opinion on what was used, it wouldn t have mattered. I learned that since I am not Catholic, I can t take in the Catholic communion, which is also called the Eucharist. The worst thing that could ever happen in the event of a car accident due to distracted driving would have to be death, or even a severe injury. If a person is lucky multitask without making mistake while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
