Pope Boniface Viii s Challenges To The King
Pope Boniface VIII s Challenges to the Kingship of Philip s
Pope Boniface VIII wrote the bulls, Clericis Laicos in 1296 and Unam Sanctam in 1302, to affirm
and perform the papal supremacy over his ecclesiastical persons and the kings, Philip IV of France
and Edward I of England. Both bulls consist of the decrees that restrain the rulers from enforcing
their derogatory authority over Christians: one forbids prelates and churchmen to pay the tax that
laymen heavily imposed on them: the latter one demands suspected clergies under the papal
jurisdiction, furthermore insisting the pope s total authority over his churchmen in France. Philip
had knocked off Clericis Laicos by depriving Boniface of a major revenue source, yet the pope again
threw down the gauntlet against the rulers with the new threat of excommunication. Although both
bulls indicate the similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Clericis Laicos , Boniface criticized and opposed to Philip for his unethical scheme
to take over the churchmen s possession to continue his dishonest war with England. Since Philip
needed a tremendous amount of money to prepare for the war, he overtaxed his people including
clergies without any exception. However, Boniface considered Philip s preparation of the war as a
plot to pursue his power over the church s possessions. Therefore, he denounced the king s
overtaxation on the churchmen as though he suspected the king of striving to subject the
churchmen to slavery and bring them under his control. (Robinson) However, Boniface mildly
reacted to the heavy taxation on the clergies in which he merely forbade them to pay their tax
rather than directly objecting to the king. With indignation toward Boniface s reaction, Philip
threatened to jolt Apostolic Palace in an economical way. Therefore, it was inevitable for him to
withdraw his hand from Clericis

Software Testing Strategy Approach On Source Code Applying...
Software Testing Instructor Fiecao Research paper on Software testing strategy approach on source
code applying conditional coverage Presented by Gnani Prathap Naik Mude 700645590
Gxm55900@ucmo.edu Introduction: Programming testing is the methodology of executing a
program or framework with the purpose of finding faults. Testing is a procedure of affirming that
item is working as per the requirments, fulfilling the client needs. Programming testing gives a way
to decrease errors, cut maintenance and general programming costs. Various programming testing
strategies, techniques, and systems have developed in the course of the most recent couple of
decades promising to improve programming quality. Programming testing is vital part in the
product development life cycle. Two regular methodologies are white box testing and discovery
testing. There are diverse scope measure for testability to the source code, for example, statement
coverage, branch coverage and condition coverage. In the branch coverage we ensure that we
execute each branch in any event once For conditional branches, this implies, we execute the TRUE
branch in any event once and the FALSE branch in any event once conditions for conditional
branches can be compound boolean expressions a compound boolean

Conform And Obey Research Paper
Our text defines conformity as going along with the crowd page 318. I believe we conform and
obey because depending on how we were raised that s all we know. Most of us as kids were told
that we must respect and obey in order to gain trust. Trust is another vital part of prosocial
behavior among humans page 318 For example, I conform and obey because I was raised with the
principles that we must respect others and elders if we wantthe same type of respect back. Some
people on the other hand might conform because of social norms. People conform to the behavior
of others more, and in general conform to social norms more, when others are watching page 318
A prosocial behavior is defined in our text book as something that is good for a society

Gentrification In The Workplace
My first year living in Pomona was terrifying. Within the first three months, my roommate s car
was stolen inside our apartment complex and was reported at a junkyard.
Keshet Weinstein, a junior Cal Poly student who has been living in a gated Pomona apartment for
six months, had a similar experience as my roommate,
Within the first month of moving in, my car was broken into while in my garage and I heard that
there were 10 bikes stolen, Weinstein said.
Gentrification has become a very broad buzzword. According to Webster dictionary it is described
as the process of renovating and improving a house or district so that it conforms to middle class
taste. The term has been used negatively, suggesting displacement of poor residents as an ... Show

The Pomona City Hall website released earlier this February that Esparza had a meeting with the
city council.
Esparza wanted a 15 screen theater that would show movies in English, Spanish language, other
foreign or art house fare. Not only would this preserve the Hispanic culture in the area, it would
also spread influence. This would create new job opportunities as construction picks up. This might
even spark more mainstream stores and restaurants to open.
It would make the school more attractive, said Jenny Thai, a senior at Cal Poly Pomona who lived
in Downtown Pomona for a year.
Urbanization is inevitable, whether we want it or not. Opposers are constantly bickering about the
political and moral consequences of gentrification. This topic is indeed mind boggling and
complex. However, there is a need to observe this multi faceted phenomenon in a different angle.

Analysis Of The Book Clotel Or The President s Daughter
In the novel Clotel or The President s Daughter, Williams Wells Brown s use of irony as Europe,
particularly France, as a pivotal setting for the liberation of African Americans from the bondage of
slavery, by virtue of its political and social demeanor, contrasted from the United States of America.
In the Letter Exchange between Benjamin Banneker and Thomas Jefferson, Banneker s letter
reinforces the situational irony when he argues, Sir, suffer me to recall to your mind that time in
which the arms and tyranny of the British crown were exerted with every powerful effort in order
to reduce you to a state of servitude (253). Thus, this citation reminds Jefferson of his and his
country s origin. The Letters of Exchange and scenes from the novel dramatize the oppression of
enslaved African Americans while acknowledging the irony by assessing the persisting gap
between America s founding principles and the ruthless existence of slavery.
The publication of Clotel in London in 1853 is the first indication of irony, by assessing the
persisting gap between freedom in Europe and the ruthless existence of slavery in America.
Furthermore, it indicates to the reader African American status in U.S. culture. To begin, allow us
discuss Thomas Jefferson, father of American Independence and a father of slave children. A free
African American, Benjamin Banneker, contested the racialist views offered in Notes on the State
of Virginia and challenged the Declaration of Independence as a

Designing A Pipeline Essay
2.1 Introduction
Pipeline is used to transfer fluids liquid or gas from one location to another location. Designing
pipeline refers to Pipe Engineering. It is an application of petroleum, mechanical and chemical
engineering basics, that deals with designing, testing, analysis, inspection and maintenance of
pipeline. Industrially, all pipeline activities are achieved with the acquiescence and guidelines of
international besides to industrial codes and standards as well as the laws, rules and assize eligible
of local authority.
Pipeline System is a network of Pipes or a set of pipelines by using fittings, valves and other

position to another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Designing a gas pipeline requires four aspects, the first aspect determines the length and direction
of pipeline, the second aspect determines the size of pipes and compressors, the third aspect is to
determine pressure and gas flow distribution in the pipeline transmission system .The fourth
aspects considers the chance of demands for growing of gas over time so the capacity of the
system may be needed to be increased by adding other components in parallel or series. (O. A.
Almisned, 2002 ) Moreover, in this research a gas pipeline is designed taking into account the fluid
type, transportation distances, diameter, wall thickness, material selection and other properties to
determine the criteria for the pipeline. A computer programming Pipesim simulator is a steady
state, multiphase flow for designing and badge investigation of gas production systems. in addition
to, the programmer investigates flow line and performance of surface facility to produce full
production system analysis.
The cost of setting up underwater pipelines is an important factor in the utilization of offshore
natural gas economics. A suitable design of those networks can facilitate the costs of new
discovered fields into the gathering system which leads to lower prices to the customer and causes
profits. This study considers three main problems in designing pipeline networks expansion. The
first problem is the selection of pipeline network diameters, the second problem, is

Perseverance In Beowulf
Courage doesn t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says
I ll try again tomorrow. Mary Anne Radmacher. Beowulf is a epic poem that shares the journey of
an epic hero named Beowulf who shows us he has plenty of courage and selflessness throughout the
story. Beowulfportrays his perseverance when we are introduced to a monster that goes by the
name of Grendel. He defeats the monster and proves that he is capable of being a herothat the
people need. Beowulf is a virtuous man and virtue was very important in Anglo Saxon culture. He
shows four traits through the course of the poem which can be seen as Loyalty, Strength, Bravery,
and Friendship. Beowulf constantly portrays these four traits as we read more of the poem, and it
shows why he is a hero that his people relied on.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

land where Hrothgar rules, to slay Grendel and stop the murder sprees that wipes out Hrothgar s

his family. I bought the end of Edgetho s barrel, sent ancient treasures through the ocean s

Metrorail Investigation
Today s experience was pretty much a unique one. Probably because it was not done individually
but it was required to be done in groups. It was amazing to do a community investigation and
have four completely different people jump on a Metrorail together. I was amazed of what
everyone had to say, the differences in opinions and the type of discussions that we were having
between one another. To begin with I knew I was going to be one of the few to be excited to hop
on the Metrorail and explore the different areas of Houston which my hypothesis was right. I can
still recall how everyone followed me to the station when they found out I have used the Metrorail
before. To be honest I thought it was pretty funny to the point, I walked around campus... Show

For instance, my group took the Metrorail we got down to stop at the nearest grocery store,
Kroger. It was about a mile away (about 4 5 blocks) from the initial stop. you know many of
them comment about the walking distance, weather, surrounding area, people, taking notes of
the smallest objects in the street. I remember walking to 3 miles just to get groceries so I think 1
mile is pretty good. I mean I counted like 26 greenspaces which 20 were for new developmental
sites and 6 for extra place or parks. The Metrorail had access to more than 9 spots that can be
considered for necessity for an example Latino learning service. It was quite remarkable how
many stores provided services too many to count like restaurants, food marts, salons, and
parking lots (paid). It was good to see the different point of views between my classmates
between myself. I asked a working class citizen why do they use a Metro. Response I don t want
to use my car I mean is a good way to dodge traffic . I asked a low income person the same
question and response was I don t own a house, I don t own a car, I don t own debt . To me those
are two impacting statements. It is true what my mom says your trash is somebody else s
treasure so if you feel like the Metro Rail is trash for somebody else the Metro Rail is a treasure.
just because It did not leave you in front of a grocery store doesn t mean it s not useful. at least
you have a roof to when it is raining, heater during the winters, space for comfort and A/C during
the hot summers. This is a good social experiment for those who think they know everything. It is
all about Priorities I say. how about drawing the line between necessity, services, and
entertainment? It is all about self motivation. is walking ten miles for entertainment is the same
thing as walking ten miles for a necessity? I mean I can go two ways

Essay On Atonement
Adapted from Ian McEwan s novel Atonement. In 1935, thirteen year old Briony Tallis (Saoirise
Ronan) changes the lives of her sister Cecilia (Keira Knightley) and lover Robbie Tuner (James
McAvoy). She accuses Robbie of a crime he didn t commit, which has damaging consequences and
guilt which affects Briony s entire life.
Cinematography is implemented in a variety of different ways to convey Briony s character. Even
before the introduction of Briony, an overview of her bedroom and of the dollhouse, filled with
model figures carefully arranged, reveals much about her personality. This is the first evidence
regarding the creative yet manipulative personality of Briony. She has arranged her toys to replicate
Noah s Ark, demonstrating the side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the film, 13 year old Briony witnesses the sexual tension between her sister
and Robbie; however, she does not completely comprehend what she is seeing. As a result, this
leads to the arrest of Robbie, as Briony believes that what she saw was he assaulting both her sister
and cousin Lola. This incident leads to the concept of perception in which lighting is utilised in a
clever way to illustrate this. When Briony encounters Cecilia and Robbie in the library, the light
shone on half her face contrasts against the face shadowed on the other half. This is symbolic to
her perception of the situation, as she is only observing a portion of what has happened. As
Briony is only aware of half of the complete situation, this causes her to misjudge the event.
Similarly, when she discovers Lola being assaulted, light is utilised through her torch when she
discovers Lola, the torch blinds her momentarily, throwing her into the light and then darkness.
This causes Briony to fade, emphasising the idea of how one s sight can affect your perceptions.
These events are critical, as Briony s incorrect perception of occasions is the catalyst for the whole
film and the consequences that are to come. Additionally, light is used when Briony goes to Paul
Marshall the man who assaulted Lola and Lola s wedding. Briony gazes upwards as light falls upon
her from above, implying a sudden comprehension of her understanding of who assaulted Lola.
Here, light depicts the understanding of the truth. Throughout the film, light is used to illustrate
various ideas, and it tells its own particular story underneath the action of the main

The Underlying Message Essay
The Underlying Message
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is not specifically about orthodox Zen Buddhist
practice nor does if specifically teaches how to repair a motorcycle. It does, however, dig into the
inner structure of the thought process to form a foundation to support any form of logic. This is
accomplished by means of a trek through the author s mind as he recounts his past in attempt to
rediscover who he once was. As the author comes to term with his duality, the reader is conditioned
to understand the author s philosophical ideas, which are the underlying beams of his value system.
Pirsig presents his message through lectures to the reader. These lectures are comprised of history,

Are they really needed to judge a student s progress, or do they just blind the student from the true
objective of learning? To answer the question an experiment was conducted which in return raised
more questions and experiments. The focus went from the class reaction to a particular student and
from the student to an assignment. Ultimately, the assignment, an essay about the town where the
student resided, focused upon a single brick in a single building of the town.
From the preceding episode Pirsig demonstrated how a complex problem could be solved
systematically. More importantly, he also showed how one must be led to understanding and that it
cannot be merely preached. In the case of the individual student, she could not write a rhetorical
paper until the subject was simple enough for her to understand. Granted, Phaedrus continued to tell
his student what to write about, but once she could see how for herself, she no longer needed to be
dictated. Working back up and putting the pieces of the problem back together, the students then
were in position to decide for themselves what is the importance of grades. Half the class was not in
accordance with the instructor s opinion, but that was not the intention, or he would have just told
them what is the purpose of the grading system according to his own opinion.
The author is careful to point out that this divide and conquer method does not always work on a
general scale but only on an individual

The Damned If I Do Damned
Damned if I Do, Damned if I Don t There are a number of different ways that knowledge can
broaden our horizons as we go through life. This includes ways in which we go about doing our
daily activities all the way to how we further ourselves in our career paths. Many people do see
knowledge as a benefit, especially for those who are trying to get ahead when it comes to jump
starting their careers within certain industries. All careers require a certain amount of knowledge
and skillin order to obtain the position. However some do see too much knowledge as something
that can hinder you from certain positions. It all depends on how knowledge is applied and how we
choose to share that knowledge in order to benefit ourselves as well as others. We go through 12
years of schooling before we reach college. Some may feel as if high schoolis it for them and they
have retained all of the information they need and have learned the proper amount of knowledge
needed in order to be successful in life. However, for others, their path in life is different. Some
need to further in knowledge in order to have a career in higher paying jobs, for example, if you
wantto be brain surgeon, I m pretty sure you cannot obtain a career of that nature just off of a high
school diploma. That is definitely common knowledge, of course you re going to need to further
your schooling in order to obtain the skills and tools needed in order to be successful in that career
path.

My First Intercultural Awareness Activity Essay
For my first Intercultural Awareness activity, I chose to listen to the BBC World Report every day
for a week. I listened to BBC from September 7 through September 13. I listened to an hour report
each day, culminating in 7 hours of intercultural awareness. Because of the lengths of the podcasts,
I chose to focus on the main issue that was presented in the podcast.
I listened to the 1st podcast September 7, 2016. It was on an issue that has risen in Ukraine
between two orthodox churches, the Ukrainian Orthodox church of Moscow and the Ukrainian
Orthodox church of Kiev. In a small village in Ukraine called Pticha had the members of the UOM
barricade themselves into their church, forcing those who were associated with the UOK to

that is happening between Russia and Ukraine. The leaders of the Ukrainian church of Moscow
believes that the members of the church of Kiev are being too political. They say this because the
members of the church of Kiev are saying that those involved in the Moscow church are not true
patriots of Ukraine.
The reporter asked one of the leaders of the church of Moscow if Russia was pressuring them in
any of their actions against the church of Kiev. The leader said that Ukrainian orthodox church is

Fish Cheeks By Amy Tan
Amy Tan s short story, Fish Cheeks, outlines the general idea of self acceptance. As the narrator,
fourteen year old Tan declares her love for her minister s son, Robert, who unlike herself, is as
white as Mary in the manger (Tan 1). This crush is anything but healthy, primarily because Tan is
reluctant to reveal her true self to him. This hesitance she portrays is strikingly recognizable in the
teenagers of today s world. Amy Tan s story, Fish Cheeks, is significant to the adolescents
of today s
society through the overall structure, quality, and applicability of the piece as the struggle to
accept oneself as an individual is still as present as it ever was.
As the story develops, the reader s thoughts are guided by the structure of the piece in a way that
Tan is able to share an important lesson through the form of a personal narrative. The opening text
immediately introduces the narrator and her insecurities as she wishes for a slim new American
nose (Tan 1). The story initially takes on a negative tone as Tan proceeds to have a negative
outlook throughout the entire evening. Her overwhelming anxiety can almost be felt by the reader
as she worries what Robert will think of her noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American
manners and overall shabby Chinese Christmas (Tan 1). With the tone set, Tan continues to amplify
each dreadful detail of her family s traditional Christmas Eve dinner. This includes the actual meal,
that of which appeared to be

Furthermore, the premium rate you are quoted at 35 will be the premium you will pay when you
are 65! Unless of course, you have purchased a policy that is designed to be paid up over a period
of years. This is a great benefit. You can pay up your coverage over a period of years, usually ten
or twenty, and then have the satisfaction of knowing that your life is covered forever!
On the other hand, some term policies do not guarantee that rates will remain level through the
whole term. To guarantee that rate, you could have to buy an extra rider, and all of a sudden,
that policy is not as cheap as it looked like before. If you do not make sure the premium will
remain level, and you do not buy the rider, you could find your rates increased after five years.
With a term policy, you will either have to accept the higher premium or lose the policy, with
nothing to show for the years you did pay on it.
Another advantage of permanent coverage is that it can actually be used as an asset. When you
build up cash value, you can borrow against that value. You can even choose to cash your policy
in for the value. Of course, then you could be left without life insurance, but at least you will
have some cash back for the premiums you put in. If you have a permanent policy, you can even
choose to sell the face value of the life insurance policy in many states. The purchaser will
continue making payments on the policy if it needs to be kept in force, but will pay a cash

An Investigation Of The Capacity And Lateral Torsional...
Abstract The study includes an investigation of the stresses, deflections capacity and lateral
torsional buckling behavior of regular I section steel column of jib crane subjected to a axial
compressive eccentric loading. The lateral torsional buckling is the main failure mode that controls
the design of slender column. Different shapes of columns are proposed in this study with
different cross section, web shapes and materials. Finite element analysis and experimental study
are carried out on both types (i.e. Regular and proposed column) to calculate and validate results.
An optimization technique is used to optimize the solution from proposed different designs. The
thickness of the web and thickness of column is constant for all specimens with length 2 to 3 m
and tested for 500, 750 and 1000 Kg load lifting capacity. Structural analysis is done to examine the
influence of the section dimension due to axial compressive eccentric loading on column. Using
the study it is observed that not only the web thickness, but also the shape of web, angle of web and
sectional cross section of steel column influences the resistance to lateral torsional bucklingand
bending.
Keywords Slender, bending, lateral torsional buckling, sectional cross section, web shape.

Research Paper On Dharavi
Dharavi
Dharvai located in Mumbai, is home to one of the largest slums in the world. The slum was
founded in 1882 during the British colonial era. The slum grew due to growing factories and
industries and due to the growing influx of migrants
Initially Dharavi was predominantly a mangrove swamp and was sparsely populated by a
Fisherman community called the Koli, and Dharavi came to be called Koliwadas. During the 19th
century, Mumbai s population reached half a million, 10 times the population of London, at that
time. Hence most parts of Mumbai suffered from acute housing, water and sanitation problems.
Residential areas were divided into 2 parts: European and native residential quarters. Slums were
meant for native Indian population .Increase of urban growth under the East India Company and
British Raj, gave rise to slums, unsanitary conditions and epidemics. Concerned about epidemics the
British Government expelled polluting industries and Indian residents to the village of Koliwadas.
And, thus was born Dharavi
The first early settlers of Dharavi were people who worked with leather. Other settlers included a
large Gujarati community of potters known as the Kumbars, embroidery workers from Uttar
Pradesh and etc . These small scale industries grew creating jobs ... Show more content on

development of new products. This proved to be quite a challenging task considering that each
managing director (of each division) still retained responsibility for the turnover and profitability
of their respective decisions and also for the strategies to achieve the goals of their divisions. In
addition, regardless of the trend of their customers in purchasing integrated systems, the majority
of each division s turnover came from the sale of stand alone products. Again, Mr. Donaldson was
instrumental in developing a plan to move forward. He had read a report of three Harvard
Business School (HBS) professors who had been studying the problems of managing new product
development for nearly a decade and instructed Ms. Quinn to invite them to conduct a seminar

Edith Cavell Research Paper
Edith Cavell was a British nurse who worked at a hospital in Belgium. In the summer of 1914,
Edith Cavell, head matron of the Berkendael Medical Institute, was on a holiday visiting her
family in England when news came of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand in far Sarajevo.
Edith s family urged her to stay in England, but she believed duty demanded that she return to the
hospital in Brussels. When she said good bye she did not know that she would never see her
family again. Soon after the Germans invaded Belgium, the hospital where Edith worked became
a Red Cross hospital and she cared for wounded Belgian, German, French and British soldiers.

Examples Of Mary Warren In The Crucible
Miller s use of Mary Warren s refusal to be ordered by her boss, John Proctor, shows how even
the slightest things make people feel powerful. For example Miller writes, MARY WARREN:
(with a stamp of her foot). I ll not be ordered to bed no more, Mr. Proctor! I am eighteen and a
woman, however single! (Act II, pg. 196). At this point, Mary Warren feels important because
she is an official of the court and is now a oman. Therefore, she feels powerful enough to refuse
orders from her boss and attempts to assert her power. Unfortunately she isn t very successful at
doing so. Miller also uses Abigail s accusation of Goody Proctor being a witch to demonstrate how
power can go straight to one s head and cause them to make risky decisions. For example

Survey Questions On Starbucks Corporation
Name: Shanice Forbes and Sharifa Small
Fair Trade: Starbucks Corporation
Methods
Survey Questions
The survey questions mostly consisted of multiple choice questions, two open ended questions,
allowing written responses, and one qualitative response question. These questions were chosen to
establish consumers differences and comparative perspective of Starbuck s competitors, their daily
usage of the social media platforms, the coffee shops visited frequently, and their opinions on
consumers who frequent Starbucks. The survey contains one matrix/rating scale question (
Appendix I, Question 5) based on how important qualities are when choosing a coffee shop.
Lastly, there were two demographic questions. The demographic questions are for a general
understanding on consumers behavior based on age group and gender. For an overview of the
survey, see appendix I.
Survey Development The purpose of the survey entitled Starbucks Corporation Survey was to
determine if the recent Starbucks Public Relations campaigns have been effective at reaching
consumers (See appendix I, Question 6 for complete list of campaigns options), to learn more
about consumers buying behaviors towards Starbucks compared to it competitors, and the
characteristics of consumers loyalty. The survey was created through Survey Monkey by the
researchers who conducted the study. Survey Monkey provided their answer style as a guideline
for the research. An example of this would be the matrix/rating scale

Homeless Population Of New South Wales
Overview In a country as prosperous as Australia, no one should have to be homeless.
The Road Home, 2008
Homelessness is a complex problem and not simply a lack of housing. It has numerous causes that
affect different groups differently. In Australia, there are approximately 105000 people
experiencing homelessness reported in the 2011 census. This equates to one in every two hundred
people. The homeless population of New South Wales accounts for over one quarter of the total in
Australia, at over 28000. One is considered to be homeless if they do not have access to safe,
secure and adequate housing. Homelessness generally refers to three types of homelessness with
varying severity.

the size of the CBD.
Focus
This report aims to address the issue of homelessness and give detailed information in regards to
the topic, as well as to answer the following questions.
В¬What are the main causes of homelessness in the Sydney CBD?
В¬How are the homeless affected (physical mental) and what actions are they taking?
В¬How are other members of society affected?
В¬What actions have been taken reduce the rate of homelessness and its effects?
В¬What actions could be taken to reduce the rate of homelessness and its effects?
In Regards to Accuracy
It is important to address the issues and limitations that may be present in this report. Recent and
reliable reports on the homeless is severely lacking, likely as a result of the sensitivity of the
issue. Similarly, the Sydney CBD is an extremely specific area and much of the information
collected is not specific to this area. Much of the information collected were extrapolated from data
that covered a larger area. As such, it is important to recognise that due to the nature of the data
collected, the information presented may be inaccurate or biased. Causes of Homelessness There
are numerous causes to homelessness. Specific events can cause homelessness, such as losing a

Stroke, Ischemic And Ischemic Attacks
STROKE A stroke is a disease that affects the arteries leading into as well as within the brain.
Strokes are the 4th leading cause of death in the United States. Approximately 800,000 people
have strokes every year about one every 4 seconds. 1 A stroke may cause lasting brain damage,
long term disability, or possibly even death. There are three main types of strokes, ischemic,
hemorrhagic and transient ischemic attacks and each come with many warning signs. A person
may have an increased chance of having a strokedepending on their lifestyle and risky behaviors,
and treatment is determined on what type of stroke a person has. During a stroke, the brain is not

An embolic stroke happens when the clot develops away from the brain, perhaps in a limb, and
is then carried into the brain by the bloodstream. This type of clot when the moving clot then is
lodged within the narrower arteries within the brain is called an embolus The second major type
of stroke is labeled as a hemorrhagic stroke. Hemorrhagic strokes are caused by arteries in the
brain rupturing open or slowly leaking into the cranium. The rupture or leakage of blood then
puts pressure on the surrounding brain cells. There are two types of hemorrhagic strokes;
intracerebral which occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bursts and spills into surrounding
brain tissue damaging brain cells. Brain cells beyond the leak are deprived of blood are also
damaged. 2 The second type of hemorrhagic stroke is called a subarachnoid hemorrhage. With a
subarachnoid hemorrhage an artery on the surface of the brain bursts and spills blood between
the surface of the brain and the skull. This bleeding is often signaled by a sudden, severe
headache. 2 This type of stroke is usually caused by an aneurysm. The third type of stroke is
called a transient ischemic attack, or a mini stroke. With a transient ischemic attack, there is only
a temporary decrease is the blood flow to the brain, and thus is the least severe kind of stroke a
person can have. A TIA can be caused by a clot that usually resolves

Piper Alpha Failure
Piper Alpha was an oil rig that was constructed for Occidental group to drill for oil in one of the
most dangerous environments in the world the North Sea. Piper Alpha went operational in 1976
and began to extract oil from the ocean floor, this process brought oil, gas and water to the
station where oil was separated from gas and water. Next the gas was cooled to remove the gas
condensate liquid. Condensates are pumped back into the oil and the mixture travels to the shore
refinery. Excess gas is then burned off in a process called flaring. According to NASA On July, 6,
1988 the worker was performing a maintenance check and remove the pressure safety valve from

The inquiry found that the system for which shift commutated information was very inadequate
which led the second shift workers to honestly believe that pump A was fine. This fact was
backed by a complete lack of centralized system to share important info between shifts. The
inquiry also found that management deactivated the automatic system for fire suppression
whenever divers were in the water which could be as long as 12 hours. The station also had a
massive design flaw in which multiple massive gas pipelines were connected to a single gas
pipe to piper alpha which would take hours to reduce the pipelines pressure if an emergency
happened. The station also leaked around 100 million gallons of oil into the North Sea cause
the greatest spill of oil until the B.P disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Piper alpha was also the
largest manmade disaster at the time and costed the Occidental group 3.4 billion dollars in
cleanup and settlements to the families that lost love one at the oil rig. The aftermath of Piper
Alpha was a complete rehaul of safety processes on oil rigs. The disaster prompt the U.K
government to pass over a 100 new safety Procedures and harder regulations regarding the use of
oil rigs in the North Sea. The U.K government also change who managements these safety of the
oil rigs from the department of energy to the department of health and safety. I learned from the
research regarding this disaster that even if a system looks soiled on paper and in practiced it can

The Attitude Of The Poem My Last Duchess By Robert Browning
9th Grade English Essay: Discuss the attitude of the poet towards the duchess in My Last Duchess
by Robert Browning
In the middle ages , the main topic used in poems was a nobleman, usually a knight in love with
a married woman and had to prove his devotion by heroic deeds and amorous writings . They
used blazon to emphasis the beautiful bodies of the women in those days. However, there was a
radical change in the Victorian times where prostitution became such a big issue. The poems
became darker and less courtly. In the poem, My last duchess by Robert Browning there was no
traditional blazon such as complementing the duchess body. Yet, the speaker who is also the Duke
talks about the women s body as the main justification for her assassination. The duke talks about
her smile as the reason for his jealousy and possessive obecession.
Robert Browning uses various literary devices to provoke a feeling to the reader. By his choice of
devices, we are able to understand the feelings of the Duke towards the Duchess. The rhyme
scheme of this poem is organized in rhyming couplets (AABBCC) this is used to show the
relationship between him and the duchess (couplets) it may also be used to show is obecession
with controlling everything and having everything organized and planned. The lines are paired in
rhyming couplets, but these couplets are open which shows the Robert Browning uses various
literary devices to provoke a feeling to the reader. By his choice of devices, we are

The Social Psychologist, Henri Tajfel And The Robber s...
In essence, life in and around the medical school plays a significant role in the range of attitudes
and behaviours adopted by the diversity of students checking in and out of the building. With
the large range of societies, interests, and cultures at large it is safe to say that students may
identify with one or two groups and it was the social psychologist, Henri Tajfel [1] who was one
of the first to claim an association between the groups we consort with and the attitudes we
display. He explained with his own experimental evidence in the minimal groups paradigm study
of 1979 [2], further supported by the independent study by Muzafer Sherif in the Robber s Cave
experiment of 1954 [3], that we embrace and endorse, on a sub conscious and sometimes
conscious level, the philosophy, work ethic and more importantly, the temperament of the groups
we belong to. Recognising the impact of the Doctors in Society lectures, SGTs as well as the
CBM sessions, it becomes clear to see that the duty of candour and the weight on building upon
values such as compassion, conscientiousness, must be universally accepted by medical students as
fundamental to a prosperous medical career. Psychologically speaking, certain peer groups may
have an impact on the timeliness and application of these values, for example the one who spends
time with charity based societies may find themselves more capable of demonstrating and
appreciating compassion and conscientiousness and so therefore, a first piece

Gang Violence During The 19th Century

up from 58.7 percent in 2010ВЁ (Hidden America). These are some of the few disturbing
statistics about gang violence in Chicago; however, as many people do not know, gangs have not
always been about drugs and violence. In the early 19th century, gangs are not what people
perceive them to be today. Gangs in the 19th century were volunteers with the fire department back
in the Antebellum Period, which is the period before the civil war and after the War of 1812. As
time went on and as the professional firemen forced the volunteers to break up, they started
spreading apart. Then by the late 19th century, gangs started developing on the south side. This is...

Collaboration in My Home Group
My Contribution Paper Collaboration consists of a few fundamental components such as the
willingness to listen and learn from each other, sharing one s own ideas and perspectives, having
respect for each other, working together to achieve a common goal, and being responsible for
the self and the whole group. A group has to collaborate in order to deliberate and achieve their
common goal because the three phases of deliberation: information gathering, decision making,
and reflection, all refer back to the ability to collaborate with each other. While working in a
group, group members should always work toward the goal of becoming a good leader, a person
who makes the groups she or he works in better (Practice Deliberation as Citizenship, Gene
Edgar) by being a responsible and respectful group member, and also being someone who is
willing to go the extra miles to make sure everyone in the group is feeling comfortable
presenting their ideas in the group. While working in my Home group this quarter, we have
came up with a few norms, such as do not interrupt when someone else is talking, be accepting of
everyone s opinion, debate ideas not people, help each other, be responsible for one s own
assigned roles and tasks, give everyone a chance to talk and participate, be flexible when doing
group work, try to be on time, try to participate in each discussion topic, and be prepared before
class. All of these norms tied back to the fundamental components of collaboration that

America s Dirty Little Secret of Narcotics
America s Dirty Little Secret Right now someone is being arrested for being in possession or
under the influence of an illegal narcotic. We are in a war right now, a war with 23.5 million
Americans in the crossfire. A battle is happening against America s public enemy number one ,
drug abuse, proclaimed by President Richard Nixon in 1971. Fighting the war on drugs is
charged to the police officers around America who go out every day and work to curb the use of
drugs in this country. One big problem is the drug problem s direct relationship to crime. When
people become addicted to drugs they spend all the money and drain all the resources from their
life s to fund their habit. There have been many news stories about people killing their own
family members to get money for drugs. Money is the common denominator. Many drug dealers
are either greedy or fund their own drug habit through selling drugs. Since it s an illegal trade,
people can set the prices as high or low as they want to. The main problem is that it is a cheap and
easy alternative to natural highs, like exercising or going on a rollercoaster. Those things take time
and energy to earn, whereas someone can go get enough herointo get high on the street for less than
twenty dollars. When people become addicted to these narcotics, their body becomes dependent on
it, like a hunger if they go to long without it they experience withdrawal symptoms. The withdrawal
from these drugs can be too much for some people,

Soccer Benefits
Soccer has been played for nearly three thousand years and is considered the world s most popular
sport. The sport is regularly seen as a hobby however for me it is a pleasant method for learning
long lasting lessons. I was introduced to soccer when I was ten years old. I started by playing street
soccer and afterward I proceeded to playing on an actual league. As I gradually got better at soccer I
picked up abilities that I would use in everyday life. As I had stated, soccer is very popular but
why are the benefits unheard of? Why are parents not being told at all? Soccer is vital for
children. Children who play soccer experience lifelong benefits such as the building of social
skills, discipline, and a healthier lifestyle. One benefit that children gain from playing soccer is
they build social skills. For example, being able to communicate with the team is essential.
When I first started I was very shy. I did not communicate and the effect was I performed terribly
on the field. Once I learned to communicate I effectively played better. These skills also benefited
me outside of the sport and I was able to make friends effortlessly and be more comfortable with
myself. Being able to communicate also helps by being able to work as a team. Teamwork is
critical because one itself cannot score a goal on its own. Being able to depend on someone helped
me work smoothly. I was also able to perform even better than if I were to work alone on the field
or on any other tasks. Social

The World s Greatest Success Story
Samsung is perhaps the world s greatest success story. Started in 1938 in Taegu, Korea by Lee
Byung Chul, Samsung has sprouted from a small company under Japanese rule, into the one of the
world s leaders in technology and innovation. It is a result of the Confucian principles embraced by
the company and its presidents and executive decisions and eagerness to adapt to the rapidly

subject relationship, Chun tzu, making personal relationships a priority in a business setting, in
addition to keeping accordance with Jen,a warm heartedness and compassion that allows to one to
want to better humanity (Lander). In addition to Confucianism, Samsung has learned to innovate,
create demand, and learn from other companies successes and failures. With this combination of
old world Confucian principles and the ability to diversify and evolve, Samsung has experienced
intense growth and success, beating out Apple and Panasonic and gaining a foothold in the digital
age(Park and Barjot). According to Park and Barjot, Samsung s success came from two areas:
Confucian ethics instilled into Samsung s workforce and strong executive leadership, specifically

Cultural and Legal Citizenship in Bend It Like Beckham
The dual definition of citizenship from May Joseph s article Nomadic Identities: The

presented in the film, Bend it Like Beckham, directed by Gurinder Chadha. Citizenship is
typically referred to as someone as being considered a member of a country under specific laws.
This general idea of citizenship is further analyzed in Nomadic Identities: The Performance of

One takes a more dynamic approach while the other approach is much more bounded by a

character s idea of citizenship is more subject to change given the difference of cultures that she has

finds a way to participate in her changing legal citizenship and her familial cultural citizenship.

The Insider is a 1999 movie based on real life events that happened within an unaired 1994

The second ethical dilemma is Wigand s decision to tell his story about the Brown and
Williamson Tobacco Corporation. The movie was made to show his struggle with how hard it
was for Wigand to make this decision. He could not keep this kind of information from the
public, especially after working with healthcare companies before being employed by Brown and
Williamson. He felt personally obliged to tell this story because it could potentially save the lives
of countless people. After he decided to do the interview, even knowing the criticism he would
receive, the tobacco company then retaliated with campaigns about how awful of a person Wigand
was, which then led his wife to divorce him. Wigand made the right decision, and many reasonable
people would have done the same thing. There were obviously others who knew about the same
information but were too scared of the consequences that Wigand unfortunately had to endure. The
CBS interview, in the end, was aired to the public.
The third ethical dilemma within the movie is CBS decision to edit the episode Bergman made to
not contain the Wigand interview. This decision was shown to cause many disagreements, and it
was ultimately made to not include the interview due to the then current merging of CBS and
Westinghouse. Even though 60 Minutes was a show specifically made for the public to show

Review Of Thomas Jefferson s Argumentative Essay
Thomas Jefferson wrote, Determine never to be idle... If is wonderful how much may be done
if we are always doing. I believe that always doing accomplishes more than doing nothing. The
reasons I believe this is because actions always produce results. Also, you will always make
progress no matter what you are doing. If we always accomplish by doing, then what can be
accomplished if you do nothing? You can t achieve any sort of goal if you do nothing; therefore,
I agree with Thomas Jefferson. Firstly, any action we take will always produce some sort of
result. When you re taking action, no matter what for, it always opens up a new path. Whether or
not your actions are related to one another, you ll still achieve some goal. For example, if you

Oriental Rug Research Paper
Oriental rugs are very beautiful and generally very expensive. If you have an oriental rug in your
home, you need to create a first aid kit for your rug. that way, if anything every gets spilled on
your beautiful and valuable oriental rug, you will have all the tools on hand to clean up the
stain right away before it sets in and ruins your rug. Here is what you need to put into your kit,
and what it can be used for. Cloth The first thing you want to put into your first aid oriental rug
kit is some clean white clothes that are very absorbent. Microfiber clothes are very absorbed and
would make a great addition to your kit. White clothes are better than colored cloth because you
can see if the stain you are working on has been absorbed. You... Show more content on

Once again, white is the preferred color so you can more easily see the stain you are trying to
pick up. You can use this to blot the stain. Eye Dropper The third thing you want to put into your
kit is an eye dropper. An eye dropper will allow you to apply whatever cleaning solution you are
using in a very precise manner. Due to the sensitive nature of oriental rugs, this tool will help you
to only apply the cleaning solution to the stain. Natural Enzyme Liquid Detergent The fourth
thing you need is some natural enzyme liquid detergent. A natural liquid detergent will be more
gently on your oriental rug. You can mix the natural liquid detergent with water, and use it to
clean a wide variety of stains. You can just put the detergent in there, or you can mix up a
solution of natural detergent with water in a spray bottle or container. White Vinegar Solution
The fifth thing you need to do is create a white vinegar solution. Mix together a solution that
contains two parts of water to one part white vinegar. This solution is very alkaline on stains. It
works well on a wide variety of stains, and should be where you head to next if simple water and
soap does not remove the

Smoother Transition In Radiology
The opportunity to work together with physicians from every field, care for patients of all ages
and be at the forefront of diagnosing a wide range of pathology from acute to chronic make
radiology the right fit for me.
Early in my third year I had the opportunity to spend a half day per week with a local radiologists
in a small hospital while on my Family Medicine clerkship. Among many interesting cases, I
remember one in particular. Mrs. P was in her second trimester and had undergone an ultrasound
revealing a low lying placenta. The radiologist met with the Family medicine physician to inform
them of the finding and discuss further management. Later that week I met the patient in clinic
where she expressed gratitude that her diagnosis was made but uneasiness with what this meant for
her pregnancy. Together, the three decided it would be best to deliver at a larger outside hospital.
In the remainder of my third year I came to further appreciate just how integral radiology is to
patient care. Whether it was quickly diagnosing appendicitis in the middle of the night, helping an
oncologist determine staging to guide therapy, or draining an abdominal abscess; radiology was
often central to determining the management plan.

These discussions demonstrated how important it is to be an approachable consultant. I believe that

amazed at the ability of my attending to solve these cases from the slightest detail. Working as an

Australi The Biological Process Of Aging
Aging is a biological process of growing older and a progressive functional decline or a gradual
deterioration of physiologic function with age that limits the ability to function normally and
makes it more susceptible to the disease (MagalhГЈes, 2013). Every person has a different view and
perceptive of the agingprocess and mostly it depends on individual s cultural norms, belief and
standards. As Australia was a very diverse country, 36 % of older adults are born from identified
120 different countries in 2011 with an increase proportion of 24% (from 0 64 years), 36.7% (65 75
years), 36.3% (75 84 years) and 32.3% (85 and over) are born overseas. As Australia becomes more

Hunting Is Not A Fair Thing
Hunting, meaning tracking or trapping of wild animals is one of the oldest activities known to
mankind. Back in the days, hunting was a necessity of life for our ancestors to be able to obtain
food for nourishment. People still hunt animals for food, but it s more of a recreational activity
now and laws govern which specific animals can be hunted. People who disagree about huntingsay
that it is detrimental to the beautiful nature, which results in numerous accidents every year and is
simply cruel to animals. According to U.S Fish and Wildlife Services, only about 12.5 million
people in America participated in hunting activities in the year of 2006. This is a very small
number (less than 5 percent) when compared to more than 300 million population of the country.
There are many non hunters in this country that believe that hunting is not a fair thing to animals,
but they don t realize that there are many benefits that come with hunting.
Hunting is something that is considered by many people to be immoral, cruel, and an unethical
practice. However, there are many of us who truly support hunting because it can control animal
populations, brings tourism to small towns, provides family oriented recreation, and greatly
promote appreciation of the wilderness. The Human Society of the United States reported that less
than 2 percent of animals that Americans interact with are killed by hunters. The remaining 98
percent are farm animals, which are killed every year for

German Art Observation Paper
I visited Los Angeles County Museum of Art for the exhibition named Form in Fragments:
Abstraction in German Art, 1906 1925 which highlighted in abstraction in German Expressionism.
The exhibition was composed of over 60 works including works by Wassily Kandinsky, Franz
Marc, Lyonel Feininger, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Paul Klee, Erich Heckel, Otto Dix, and an abstract
film by Hans Richter. Among the many works on view, one of the Paul Klee s prints titled
Hoffmannesque Scene caught my eye.
Hoffmannesque Scene is a lithograph printed in black and colored inks on a wove paper that was
created in 1921 in Germany. The title of the print tells you that it recounts a particular scene that
was inspired by something. This abstract print depicts the freeform shapes of objects including
human and animal with shaded blocks. The depiction of the scene resembles cave and ... Show more

The print is presented with antique brass, pastel brown, pale gold, wheat, and pale chestnut. These
undertones of colors that are softened or moderated create a feeling of gloom and calm at the same
time. In addition, Klee used the technique of color blocking by overlapping squares. There is no
particular color that dominates the entire image or completely catches a viewer s attention.
However, Klee emphasized on harmonization of colors by considering not only the combination
of the colors but also the composition and the scale of the blocks. Each block blends
harmoniously into one another so that it creates a sense of rhythmical or rhythmic changes, even
though those colors used are analogous. Therefore, the print reminds me of lyrical melody,
especially moody and gentle jazz music. While the background of the print presents a sense of
color, the artist detached color from physical description and the objects are drawn childlike.
Thus, the print looks like an illustrated page of a child s diary that depicts an image of his or her

Comparing Poems Dover Beach And The Ruined Maid
Each poem that we have read is completely different from the last, but they each do not have the
same meaning. I decided to compare the themes of the poems Dover Beach and The Ruined
Maid. Dover Beach is about a couple looking at the water on the English Channel and what the
sound waves bring the speaker to think about. The Ruined Maid is about two old friends, who
used to work together, running into each other and speaking on how one of them has moved up in
life, as some would say. These two poems may not be alike, but they both share the same theme of
man and the nature world. I wanted to first go into detail about the three poems, starting with Dover
Beach. Dover Beach was written by the well known poet Matthew Arnold, who... Show more

Stanza two doesn t begin in the room, but in Ancient Greece. After listening to the sound of the
pebbles washing up the shore and returning to the water, the speaker thinks back to ancient times
in Greece. He imagines Sophocles, who is known as a tragedian and known for his playwrights.
Sophocles, according to the speaker, heard the same sound from the pebbles while he stood on
the Aegean Sea, which is a part of the Mediterranean. Lines 17 and 18 of stanza two are that into
his mind the turbid ebb and flow of human misery; we. the definition of turbid is cloudy, opaque,
even muddy, which means that into his mind cloudiness moved in and out. The speaker ends
stanza two by returning back to his present day on the English Channel. Find also in the sound a
thought, hearing it you this distant northern sea were the last two lines meaning that the speaker
and his compliant discovered thoughts at the sound of waves from the sea of the English Channel.
Stanza three is started with the statement that the sea of faith was also full like the ocean s tide
along the English Channel. the speaker compares the sea of faith lays to a beautiful belt using the
words furled and bright girdle.

sitting there, Hout stood up in front of him and started yelling at him for an unknown reason and
struck him with a closed fist four times on the right side of his head. Touchton advised he did not

The Legacy Of Superstar Whitney Houston
On August 9, 1963, superstar Whitney Houston was born. She grew up living in Newark, New
York, where she stayed in a middle income neighborhood. Houston was the third and youngest
child of Cissy Houston (gospel singer) and John Russell (entertainment executive). She was the
godchild of Aretha Franklin and she studied and participated in all types of musical genres.
Many may have believed that Houston was a great singer, but they had no idea of how big of a
music icon and mogul she would become. Houston was only 11 when she decided to follow in the
same path as her mother. She became the soloist for a local church called New Hope Baptist
Church, located in Newark. Houston then learned how to play the piano, and her first solo

right away. This began the legacy of Whitney Houston and the beginning of the new life that was
ahead of her. Houston was on the verge of becoming one of the biggest artists in music history.
In March of 1985, Houston came out with her very first self titled album, and it was a smash hit!
Three of her singles from the album each went on to take the No. 1 spot on Billboard Hot 100.
The three singles were How Will I Know , Saving All My Love for You , and Greatest Love of
All . These singles were so phenomenal that they resonated with people across the world. A year
later, she was nominated for four Grammy awards where she won her first Grammy for the song
Saving All My Love for You in the category of best female pop vocal performance. Houston was
slowly becoming the superstar she was destined to be, and this album was a turning point in her
career for the best. Seeing how she wanted to broaden her horizon and expand her abilities,
Houston took the role in the Oscar nominated film, The Bodyguard. This was indeed her first
acting role, and she played a pop singer who hires a body guard to protect her from someone who
was stalking her. The song, by Dolly Parton called I Will Always Love You was recreated by
Houston and later won a Grammy for best female pop vocal performance and record of the year in
1994. That particular song

What Are Leonardo Da Vinci s Accomplishments
Leonardo da Vinci was the greatest masters of the Renaissance. He was a famous painter, sculptor,
architect, engineer, musician, inventor, and scientist. No other man has been gifted in as many
different ways as he was. Leonardo was born in the small town of Vinci, Tuscany. He was the son
of a Florentine notary and a peasant girl. In the mid 1460S, Leonardo and his parents moved to
Florence. He was then given the best education that Florence could possibly offer. He advanced
both socially and intellectually. Leonardo s extreme artistic talent took him to Verrocchio s
workshop in 1466. It was there that he met Botticelli and Ghirlandaio. While Leonardo was working
alongside Verrocchio, he learned many things: painting altarpieces, and making... Show more

He worked on the composition for a long time, but again, he did not finish his work. From 1495 to
1497, he worked very hard on his masterpiece, The Last Supper. While Leonardo stayed in Milan,
he made many more paintings, theater designs, and even a model for the dome of the Milan
Cathedral. His largest piece of work was the bronze monument to Francesco Sforza. However,
when the Sforza family was chased out of Milan by French forces, the statue was left unfinished
and ended up being destroyed by French archers who used it for target practice. In 1503,
Leonardo was a member in a group of artists who would decide where the marble statue called The
David should be located. Florentine Sculptor, Michelangelo, did the statue. Near the end of 1503,
Leonardo began to think of a decoration for the great hall of the Palazzo Becchi. He was to paint
the Battle of Angier, which was a Florentine victory in its war with Pisa. Leonardo made many
ideas and sketches but he never actually finished the wall painting. During his stay in Florence,
Leonardo painted more portraits, however only one survives still today. It is the Mona

The Challenges Of Puerto Rico
The once beautiful island of Puerto Rico was terribly ravaged by hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The Island s capital of San Juan, along with cities to the northeast, didn t even get a chance to
fully recover from hurricane Irma s graze when the entire island was hit full force, by Maria as a
category 5 hurricane only two weeks after. The devastation following Maria was unprecedented,
wiping out power to the entire island for almost a week, along with water, internet and cell
services, to name a few. It took four days to get water pumps to provide limited water supply to a
small portion of the island. Almost a month after the hurricanes, only 13% of the island is
receiving power from the grid, and about 60% has access to water. The... Show more content on

As a result of current conditions, the airports are stuffed to capacity with people waiting for up
to three days in the terminal for a flight off the island. The waterfront is still recovering, with
many of the shops, restaurants and infrastructure in grave state of disrepair. Once a landmark in
Old San Juan, cruise ship traffic has been non existent for weeks. Not all is chaos and
dysfunction is Puerto Rico though. There is one aspect that has been bringing people together,
raising spirits and inspiring change, and that is food. Particularly throughout Old San Juan,
where food trucks are becoming more prominent than anything else in the landscape. Carts,
trucks, and trailers with Christmas lights and boom boxes can be found all over, whether in
parking lots or on the side of streets, they re serving crowds a variety of local favorites. A Puerto
Rico original is the Mofongo de Ropa Vieja, which is a especially prepared unripe plantain,
boiled in saltwater, shaped into a cup. Then, it is deep fried and filled with shredded beef, that
has been marinated with red peppers, onions and spices absolutely delicious! Some of the
smaller tracks and carts sell another local favorite called the Pincho; basically, your choice of
meat on a stick, cooked over charcoal and served with Pan Sobao (Puerto Rican sweet bread) and
hot sauce. Lastly, the Bacalaitos (or little Cod), which is mix of granulated corn flour, cod fish,
and spices that is deep fried

The Illegal Immigration Issue And The Security Of The U.S.
The illegal immigration issue and the security of the U.S. Economy have been two hot topics all
over the news during the 2016 election champion. One main solution that now president Trump
provided during his champion was building the wall along the side of the US southern border.
Although many who voted for that he mostly agree to the idea, many others thought that was bad
for the Economy, Globalization, and most importantly the U.S. Economy. Nationwide, a debate

visit from the Mexico s president and both parties did not back down. But in same article
Michael, Binyamin and Alan wrote to the NYT back in Jan argued that although put more taxes
on Mexican s imported goods sounds like an easy solution to solves the budget issue of Trump s
wall. The result may not be the same way that folks who voted for him want to see. The article
argued that business will have to make money to cover all the cost of importing goods to the
U.S. If the president increases their cost, they will have no other choices but increase the price
tag on the importing goods to cover that cost. So, in the end, the folks who voted for him may
end up been the real people that pay for the wall not what Trump has claimed Mexico. Many
businesses in the U.S. are heavily relying on imports from Mexico, mentioned by the same New

Alfred Kinsey s Influence On Sexuality
Alfred Kinsey remains one of the most controversial biologist human sexologist even 60 years after
his death. Kinsey broke many taboos with his studies dealing with human sexuality such as
masturbation, homosexuality, and premarital sex. While many of his methods was criticized by his
peers, the field of psychology human sexualitywould not be where it is without him. Alfred Kinsey
was born in Hoboken, NJ in 1894(1). His parents were very strict Christian Methodists who were
involved in the church. Kinsey as a child endured very bad health and spent many of his years of
his childhood secluded only interacting with his parishioners. It was noted that a young Kinsey
like many other young boys and girls experimented with preadolescent sex such as self
exploration. During this time the Victorian era sex was looked as something taboo which drove
him to great feeling of guiltiness and shame. These ill feelings toward his sexuality would be one
of the determining factors toward his work later. Despite these transgressions Kinsey grew to have
an interest for the outdoors by joining the boy s scout team at his local YMCA (2).
As a teenager in high school Kinsey used his experience from being a scout to help him in the
field biology and zoology (3). These choices he made was met with great opposition from his
father who wanted him to peruse a degree in engineering. This strife with his father over his career
choices set off a chain of events that will forever change his life.

  • 2. Pope Boniface Viii s Challenges To The King Pope Boniface VIII s Challenges to the Kingship of Philip s Pope Boniface VIII wrote the bulls, Clericis Laicos in 1296 and Unam Sanctam in 1302, to affirm and perform the papal supremacy over his ecclesiastical persons and the kings, Philip IV of France and Edward I of England. Both bulls consist of the decrees that restrain the rulers from enforcing their derogatory authority over Christians: one forbids prelates and churchmen to pay the tax that laymen heavily imposed on them: the latter one demands suspected clergies under the papal jurisdiction, furthermore insisting the pope s total authority over his churchmen in France. Philip had knocked off Clericis Laicos by depriving Boniface of a major revenue source, yet the pope again threw down the gauntlet against the rulers with the new threat of excommunication. Although both bulls indicate the similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Clericis Laicos , Boniface criticized and opposed to Philip for his unethical scheme to take over the churchmen s possession to continue his dishonest war with England. Since Philip needed a tremendous amount of money to prepare for the war, he overtaxed his people including clergies without any exception. However, Boniface considered Philip s preparation of the war as a plot to pursue his power over the church s possessions. Therefore, he denounced the king s overtaxation on the churchmen as though he suspected the king of striving to subject the churchmen to slavery and bring them under his control. (Robinson) However, Boniface mildly reacted to the heavy taxation on the clergies in which he merely forbade them to pay their tax rather than directly objecting to the king. With indignation toward Boniface s reaction, Philip threatened to jolt Apostolic Palace in an economical way. Therefore, it was inevitable for him to withdraw his hand from Clericis ... Testing is a procedure of affirming that item is working as per the requirments, fulfilling the client needs. Programming testing gives a way to decrease errors, cut maintenance and general programming costs. Various programming testing strategies, techniques, and systems have developed in the course of the most recent couple of decades promising to improve programming quality. Programming testing is vital part in the product development life cycle. Two regular methodologies are white box testing and discovery testing. There are diverse scope measure for testability to the source code, for example, statement coverage, branch coverage and condition coverage. In the branch coverage we ensure that we execute each branch in any event once For conditional branches, this implies, we execute the TRUE branch in any event once and the FALSE branch in any event once conditions for conditional branches can be compound boolean expressions a compound boolean ... • 6. Analysis Of The Book Clotel Or The President s Daughter In the novel Clotel or The President s Daughter, Williams Wells Brown s use of irony as Europe, particularly France, as a pivotal setting for the liberation of African Americans from the bondage of slavery, by virtue of its political and social demeanor, contrasted from the United States of America. In the Letter Exchange between Benjamin Banneker and Thomas Jefferson, Banneker s letter reinforces the situational irony when he argues, Sir, suffer me to recall to your mind that time in which the arms and tyranny of the British crown were exerted with every powerful effort in order to reduce you to a state of servitude (253). Thus, this citation reminds Jefferson of his and his country s origin. The Letters of Exchange and scenes from the novel dramatize the oppression of enslaved African Americans while acknowledging the irony by assessing the persisting gap between America s founding principles and the ruthless existence of slavery. The publication of Clotel in London in 1853 is the first indication of irony, by assessing the persisting gap between freedom in Europe and the ruthless existence of slavery in America. Furthermore, it indicates to the reader African American status in U.S. culture. To begin, allow us discuss Thomas Jefferson, father of American Independence and a father of slave children. Beowulfportrays his perseverance when we are introduced to a monster that goes by the name of Grendel. He defeats the monster and proves that he is capable of being a herothat the people need. Beowulf is a virtuous man and virtue was very important in Anglo Saxon culture. He shows four traits through the course of the poem which can be seen as Loyalty, Strength, Bravery, and Friendship. It was amazing to do a community investigation and have four completely different people jump on a Metrorail together. I was amazed of what everyone had to say, the differences in opinions and the type of discussions that we were having between one another. To begin with I knew I was going to be one of the few to be excited to hop on the Metrorail and explore the different areas of Houston which my hypothesis was right. I remember walking to 3 miles just to get groceries so I think 1 mile is pretty good. I mean I counted like 26 greenspaces which 20 were for new developmental sites and 6 for extra place or parks. The Metrorail had access to more than 9 spots that can be considered for necessity for an example Latino learning service. It was quite remarkable how many stores provided services too many to count like restaurants, food marts, salons, and parking lots (paid). It was good to see the different point of views between my classmates between myself. I asked a working class citizen why do they use a Metro. Response I don t want to use my car I mean is a good way to dodge traffic . I asked a low income person the same question and response was I don t own a house, I don t own a car, I don t own debt . To me those are two impacting statements. It is true what my mom says your trash is somebody else s treasure so if you feel like the Metro Rail is trash for somebody else the Metro Rail is a treasure. just because It did not leave you in front of a grocery store doesn t mean it s not useful. at least you have a roof to when it is raining, heater during the winters, space for comfort and A/C during the hot summers. This is a good social experiment for those who think they know everything. It is all about Priorities I say. how about drawing the line between necessity, services, and entertainment? She accuses Robbie of a crime he didn t commit, which has damaging consequences and guilt which affects Briony s entire life. Cinematography is implemented in a variety of different ways to convey Briony s character. Even before the introduction of Briony, an overview of her bedroom and of the dollhouse, filled with model figures carefully arranged, reveals much about her personality. This is the first evidence regarding the creative yet manipulative personality of Briony. She has arranged her toys to replicate Noah s Ark, demonstrating the side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of the film, 13 year old Briony witnesses the sexual tension between her sister and Robbie; however, she does not completely comprehend what she is seeing. As a result, this leads to the arrest of Robbie, as Briony believes that what she saw was he assaulting both her sister and cousin Lola. This incident leads to the concept of perception in which lighting is utilised in a clever way to illustrate this. When Briony encounters Cecilia and Robbie in the library, the light shone on half her face contrasts against the face shadowed on the other half. This is symbolic to her perception of the situation, as she is only observing a portion of what has happened. As Briony is only aware of half of the complete situation, this causes her to misjudge the event. Similarly, when she discovers Lola being assaulted, light is utilised through her torch when she discovers Lola, the torch blinds her momentarily, throwing her into the light and then darkness. This causes Briony to fade, emphasising the idea of how one s sight can affect your perceptions. These events are critical, as Briony s incorrect perception of occasions is the catalyst for the whole film and the consequences that are to come. Additionally, light is used when Briony goes to Paul Marshall the man who assaulted Lola and Lola s wedding. Briony gazes upwards as light falls upon her from above, implying a sudden comprehension of her understanding of who assaulted Lola. Here, light depicts the understanding of the truth. Throughout the film, light is used to illustrate various ideas, and it tells its own particular story underneath the action of the main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ultimately, the assignment, an essay about the town where the student resided, focused upon a single brick in a single building of the town. From the preceding episode Pirsig demonstrated how a complex problem could be solved systematically. More importantly, he also showed how one must be led to understanding and that it cannot be merely preached. This includes ways in which we go about doing our daily activities all the way to how we further ourselves in our career paths. Many people do see knowledge as a benefit, especially for those who are trying to get ahead when it comes to jump starting their careers within certain industries. All careers require a certain amount of knowledge and skillin order to obtain the position. However some do see too much knowledge as something that can hinder you from certain positions. It all depends on how knowledge is applied and how we choose to share that knowledge in order to benefit ourselves as well as others. We go through 12 years of schooling before we reach college. Some may feel as if high schoolis it for them and they have retained all of the information they need and have learned the proper amount of knowledge needed in order to be successful in life. This crush is anything but healthy, primarily because Tan is reluctant to reveal her true self to him. This hesitance she portrays is strikingly recognizable in the teenagers of today s world. Amy Tan s story, Fish Cheeks, is significant to the adolescents of today s society through the overall structure, quality, and applicability of the piece as the struggle to accept oneself as an individual is still as present as it ever was. As the story develops, the reader s thoughts are guided by the structure of the piece in a way that Tan is able to share an important lesson through the form of a personal narrative. The opening text immediately introduces the narrator and her insecurities as she wishes for a slim new American nose (Tan 1). The story initially takes on a negative tone as Tan proceeds to have a negative outlook throughout the entire evening. Her overwhelming anxiety can almost be felt by the reader as she worries what Robert will think of her noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American manners and overall shabby Chinese Christmas (Tan 1). Abstract The study includes an investigation of the stresses, deflections capacity and lateral torsional buckling behavior of regular I section steel column of jib crane subjected to a axial compressive eccentric loading. The lateral torsional buckling is the main failure mode that controls the design of slender column. Different shapes of columns are proposed in this study with different cross section, web shapes and materials. Finite element analysis and experimental study are carried out on both types (i.e. Regular and proposed column) to calculate and validate results. An optimization technique is used to optimize the solution from proposed different designs. The thickness of the web and thickness of column is constant for all specimens with length 2 to 3 m and tested for 500, 750 and 1000 Kg load lifting capacity. Structural analysis is done to examine the influence of the section dimension due to axial compressive eccentric loading on column. Using the study it is observed that not only the web thickness, but also the shape of web, angle of web and sectional cross section of steel column influences the resistance to lateral torsional bucklingand bending. Mr. Donaldson chose Kathleen Quinn, Vice President of R D, to be responsible for coordinating the development of new products. This proved to be quite a challenging task considering that each managing director (of each division) still retained responsibility for the turnover and profitability of their respective decisions and also for the strategies to achieve the goals of their divisions. In addition, regardless of the trend of their customers in purchasing integrated systems, the majority of each division s turnover came from the sale of stand alone products. The Attitude Of The Poem My Last Duchess By Robert Browning 9th Grade English Essay: Discuss the attitude of the poet towards the duchess in My Last Duchess by Robert Browning In the middle ages , the main topic used in poems was a nobleman, usually a knight in love with a married woman and had to prove his devotion by heroic deeds and amorous writings . They used blazon to emphasis the beautiful bodies of the women in those days. However, there was a radical change in the Victorian times where prostitution became such a big issue. In essence, life in and around the medical school plays a significant role in the range of attitudes and behaviours adopted by the diversity of students checking in and out of the building. With the large range of societies, interests, and cultures at large it is safe to say that students may identify with one or two groups and it was the social psychologist, Henri Tajfel [1] who was one of the first to claim an association between the groups we consort with and the attitudes we display. He explained with his own experimental evidence in the minimal groups paradigm study of 1979 [2], further supported by the independent study by Muzafer Sherif in the Robber s Cave experiment of 1954 [3], that we embrace and endorse, on a sub conscious and sometimes conscious level, the philosophy, work ethic and more importantly, the temperament of the groups we belong to. Recognising the impact of the Doctors in Society lectures, SGTs as well as the CBM sessions, it becomes clear to see that the duty of candour and the weight on building upon values such as compassion, conscientiousness, must be universally accepted by medical students as fundamental to a prosperous medical career. Psychologically speaking, certain peer groups may have an impact on the timeliness and application of these values, for example the one who spends time with charity based societies may find themselves more capable of demonstrating and appreciating compassion and conscientiousness and so therefore, a first piece ... I believe that always doing accomplishes more than doing nothing. The reasons I believe this is because actions always produce results. Also, you will always make progress no matter what you are doing. If we always accomplish by doing, then what can be accomplished if you do nothing? You can t achieve any sort of goal if you do nothing; therefore, I agree with Thomas Jefferson. Firstly, any action we take will always produce some sort of result. Smoother Transition In Radiology The opportunity to work together with physicians from every field, care for patients of all ages and be at the forefront of diagnosing a wide range of pathology from acute to chronic make radiology the right fit for me. Early in my third year I had the opportunity to spend a half day per week with a local radiologists in a small hospital while on my Family Medicine clerkship. Among many interesting cases, I remember one in particular. Mrs. P was in her second trimester and had undergone an ultrasound revealing a low lying placenta. The radiologist met with the Family medicine physician to inform them of the finding and discuss further management. Later that week I met the patient in clinic where she expressed gratitude that her diagnosis was made but uneasiness with what this meant for her pregnancy. Together, the three decided it would be best to deliver at a larger outside hospital. In the remainder of my third year I came to further appreciate just how integral radiology is to patient care. Whether it was quickly diagnosing appendicitis in the middle of the night, helping an oncologist determine staging to guide therapy, or draining an abdominal abscess; radiology was often central to determining the management plan. Back in the days, hunting was a necessity of life for our ancestors to be able to obtain food for nourishment. People still hunt animals for food, but it s more of a recreational activity now and laws govern which specific animals can be hunted. People who disagree about huntingsay that it is detrimental to the beautiful nature, which results in numerous accidents every year and is simply cruel to animals. According to U.S Fish and Wildlife Services, only about 12.5 million people in America participated in hunting activities in the year of 2006. The exhibition was composed of over 60 works including works by Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, Lyonel Feininger, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Paul Klee, Erich Heckel, Otto Dix, and an abstract film by Hans Richter. Among the many works on view, one of the Paul Klee s prints titled Hoffmannesque Scene caught my eye. Hoffmannesque Scene is a lithograph printed in black and colored inks on a wove paper that was created in 1921 in Germany. The print is presented with antique brass, pastel brown, pale gold, wheat, and pale chestnut. These undertones of colors that are softened or moderated create a feeling of gloom and calm at the same time. In addition, Klee used the technique of color blocking by overlapping squares. There is no particular color that dominates the entire image or completely catches a viewer s attention. However, Klee emphasized on harmonization of colors by considering not only the combination of the colors but also the composition and the scale of the blocks. Each block blends harmoniously into one another so that it creates a sense of rhythmical or rhythmic changes, even though those colors used are analogous. Therefore, the print reminds me of lyrical melody, especially moody and gentle jazz music. While the background of the print presents a sense of color, the artist detached color from physical description and the objects are drawn childlike. Thus, the print looks like an illustrated page of a child s diary that depicts an image of his or her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
