3. • The League of Nations was to be based in Geneva,
Switzerland. This was formed after World War I. But, this
was failed. After, the World war II again an organization
named United Nations was formed on 24 October 1945. It
has many organs and agencies. Some of its Agencies were
taken from League Of Nations agencies and organs.

4. OBJECTIVES
• To keep peace throughout the world.
• To develop friendly relations between nations.
• To work together to help the people to live better lives, to
eliminate poverty, disease and illiteracy in the world, to stop
environmental destruction and to encourage respect for each
other's rights and freedoms.
• Countries must try to settle their differences by peaceful means.
• Countries must avoid using force or threatening to use force.
• Countries should try to assist only the United Nations

5. • There are 6 organs of United Nations.
They are :-
• General Assembly
• Security Council
• Economic and Social Council
• Trusteeship Council
• International Court of Justice ( World Court)
• Secretariat
It is the central body of the United Nations. It is a deliberative Organ. All
members of UN are members of the General Assembly. Every member
irrespective of its size or strength has one vote, but can send five
representatives to the General Assembly session which is held in the month
of September every year.

6. • The Security is the most powerful organ is the most powerful
organ of UN. It is responsible for maintaining peace and security
in the world. It has a limited membership. It is comprised of 15
members out of which five members are the permanent members
and the remaining ten which are elected by the general assembly
are non permanent. The five permanent members are USA, UK,
Russia ,China and France.
The very name of the Council indicates its functional concern. It
discusses and tries to solve the economic, social, cultural and
humanitarian problems at international level. it also looks after the
issue concerning women, children, food, housing, education and
environment

7. • It is headed by the Secretary General. It serves the needs of various
organs of UN as well as the representatives of the member
countries. It’s staff is from the various countries. There are about
50,000 employees from about 170 nations. Since the inception of
UN there have been eight secretary generals including the present
one. Ban-ki-moon is the present Secretary General of the UN.

10. • The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations leads international
efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts
as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and
debate policy. FAO's mandate is to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural
productivity, better the lives of rural populations and contribute to the growth of the
world economy. FAO is the largest of UN agencies and its headquarters are in Rome,
Italy.
• The International Labor Organization (ILO) deals with labor issues. Its headquarters
are in Geneva, Switzerland. Founded in 1919,

11. • UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization) is a specialized agency of the United Nations
established in 1946. Its stated purpose is to contribute to
peace and security by promoting international collaboration
through education, science, and culture in order to further
universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and the human
rights and fundamental freedoms proclaimed in the UN
Charter.

12. • The World Bank, a part of the World Bank Group (WBG), makes loans to
developing countries for development programmes with the stated goal of
reducing poverty. The World Bank differs from the World Bank Group in that
the former only comprises the International Bank for Reconstruction and
Development (IBRD)
• The World Health Organization (WHO) acts as a coordinating authority on
international public health. Established on 7 April 1948, the Health
Organization, which had been an agency of the League of Nations.
