The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2. About the Product
The purpose of “Thrift” is to allows users to buy and sell various products, this idea is very similar to the app Depop
which is a clothes buying and selling app which allows users all over the globe to buy items of clothing from different
continents for them to then be shipped to them once they have paid the price of the item. Also it allows users to DM
(direct message) the individual that is selling the item to see if they can lower the price a little, ask for any items that
haven’t been uploaded, overall just enquire about any items of clothing. Through having a direct message area it
allows an individual to contact the seller directly and privately.
On my website, you will have links on the navigation bar (home, search, notifications, profile) that will allow you to go
to each page. This idea I think is very good because at the moment there isn’t many apps that allow buying and selling
of clothing items. There is Depop which is the main app at the moment that allows buying and selling of clothing
items.
Features that are going to be within my social media is firstly, the house style will be consistent throughout the entire
website. On my app there is going to be a specific background throughout but on the login page it is with green lines
and when you go back onto the profile page it changes to grey just because I want to be able to adapt the colouring
so that I brings a different look to my app.
3. About the Product
My unique selling point will be that it is a variation of Depop but it is going to be big worldwide, that is also my aim. I
want it to be known worldwide so that I can attract attention from different cultures, religions. By doing this I am
encouraging others to sell there cultural clothing and show there background through there clothing items.
I chose the name “Thrift” because I thought it was a name that a lot of people would like also because there are a lot
of links with many stores around the UK that are called thrift stores due the clothing that they sell being vintage and
second hand, but of a high quality clothing. I thought I could then implement my own style onto the app by allowing
people to buy and sell items of clothing.
My colour scheme varies throughout the three different pages of my social media product. The login page has the
colours of grey, black and a background of green lines varying throughout the login page. Also my sign up page has
the exact same colour scheme as they’re very similar pages as they both include the logging in aspect of a social
media product.
My logo is just going to be the name thrift but inside a black box with the writing being grey. I think that the logo is
bold and stands out a lot as it is a black box with the writing Thrift in the middle of it. The writing is transparent so
whatever colour is behind the box, that’s the colour that the writing will end up like.

transparent so whatever colour is behind the box, that’s the colour that the writing will end up like. This gives
the website a bit of edge I think because any colour that is behind it will come through the text. For example, if
I were to have one page that had a green background the writing of Thrift will be green and on another page if
it were to be red the writing of Thrift will be red. But at this current moment the background will be grey.
8. Photoshop Drafts Comparison
These are two images of my Photoshop drafts that I
put together. These are going to be two of the three
pages that I am going to be creating.
For my login page, I am going to have the
background that you can see in the furthest left
image. Also I am going to be having the logo of the
social media product in the middle of the page but
nearer to the top so that I can fit the username and
password login area right in the middle of the page.
The profile page will consist of the products that are
being sold by any individual, there following and
there followers. This will allow the user to keep on
track of there products and there followers wanting
to buy there products.
9. Hand Drawn Drafts Comparison continued
These two images are my hand drawn drafts. I've drawn these out so
that I have a rough outline of what I want my social media pages to
look like. I will be creating a social media page for viewings on a
desktop. Meaning that I am going to have to implement features that
are on a phone app into a desktop app.
10. Production Plan
My Production Plan shows what events are happening on each day leading up to the social media
launch date. All days are covered with editors putting together each pages and finalising the
product ready for sale.
11. Production Plan continued - Equipment and
Staff
I am going to need a lot of resources for my new office as it is currently empty. The image on the right indicates
the different pieces of equipment that I am going to need in the office for the designing and I need all of this
stuff so that we can all work efficiently and quickly. The image on the left shows the members of staff that I
need to get in order for the magazine to be put together. Next to each equipment and staff it shows how much
they are going to cost and how much they’re going to cost a year on the staffs salary.
12. Revenue streams
My app will be making money through different styles of advertisement, I will allow
companies to advertise there products and other pieces of information that they
want advertising, which will in turn cost a specific amount of money.
I will be allowing major consumers to purchase off my app and from here I will be
charging them a percentage of the money that is spent.
This image gives me an insight into what other social medias are charging and then
I can base what I am going to charge off that. I will be looking to charge every
person that sells something a small percentage of what they have earnt off that
item of clothing.
13. Legal and Ethical Issues
Copyright
Copyright comes underneath the legal side. Legal protection is used so that any original material
cannot be used by someone else. I will be implementing copyright into my work because I am not
wanting other companies to be using my images or pictures of my artists that I had taken exclusively
so I will be adding copyright onto my images. This means that companies have to ask me and the
artist to use the images that I have.
Ethical Issues
Ethical issues such as right and wrong which have to be taken into account. Exploitation and
sensationalism also have to be considered and taken into account. Offensive material such as
privacy and copyright. These are not usually enforced by law. Regulatory bodies and codes of
practice exist often within the industry.
14. Legal and Ethical Issues
Privacy
Privacy issues within social media is a current way in which people are using to interact with each
other daily. Since the launch of various social medias, there has been major attraction in the way
that people share information nowadays and how they correspond with others interests of your
choice in various different forms. Although social media sites are allowing users to share various
pieces of information with friends and other on that site, but a lot of people are unaware of how
their privacy is getting out.
Protection of personal data
When social media offering are being developed throughout the month or year, the need for a
wider range of data protection requirements is often looked over. If various applicants are to be
attracted using social media aspects, or if the social media is to be introduced through different
channels, comprehensive requirements therefore must be taken into account to ensure employee
and applicant data protection.
15. Legal and Ethical Issues
Royalties
Royalties is when a social media site has included content which is copyrighted and if someone else
includes this information then they have to pay the original social media site . If you were to do this
without asking permission from the original social media site owner, you will end up being fined and
they will make sure the social media site is taken down and not promoted anymore. You shouldn’t
be using other peoples information or images without there confirmation because it can result in
very serious circumstances.
Bullying and Stalking
Through having a help feature on my social media site. This will allow users to report any signs of
bullying that they may get. On my social media I don’t think any bullying will occur because its just a
social media site where you can buy and sell items of clothing. But saying that its very key that we
have a help icon in there so that if any bullying where to happen then we can sort it out and take
the correct action needed.
16. Conclusion
To conclude, I know what my website is all about and who my target audience is going to be. I have
also created production plan that shows to me what is happening on each day so that I know when
the social media site is going to be finished and what days each task is going to be done. I have
looked at how much it will cost for editors and publishers, also marketing and financial sides of
creating the social media site. As for legal and ethical issues, I will need to make sure my users know
what they’re doing when setting up there accounts, for example, buying and selling, copyright
policies and so on.
