This document provides an overview of two proposed social media apps - "Hype" and "Harmony". For Hype, the summary describes its purpose as allowing video chatting and interacting through shared feeds to reduce separation for long-distance relationships. Key aspects of Hype covered include the target audience of ages 14-34 of both genders, a red and white color scheme, the slogan "Like Skype but with an H", and competitors like Facebook, Instagram, and Skype. For Harmony, the summary discusses its inspiration from Musical.ly and its purpose to build confidence through sharing music, comedy and skills. Harmony's target audience is described as all ages of both genders to encourage continuous connection. Features like photo
This is a strategic provocation from wolfzhowl around the deployment & usage of Facebook's newly launched "Share Photo Album" feature.
This attempts to understand the mechanics of the feature, how human beings will use it for which possible emotional - social needs and how brand hence can leverage it.
This provocation again clearly demonstrates as to why Digital/Social are driven by people, their emotional personal & social needs and hence how it is important to understand their behaviour and then map the channel insights of that particular medium's facilitates & satisfies those emotional human needs (which is where channel mechanic kick-in).
This is the reason why DIgital media brands like Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter etc; actually need behaviour strategy experts in-house to help design features as well as to explaining to brands & agencies on how to employ them!

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

6. Hype - Purpose
Communication and interaction between friends and family over a desktop of pc screen. The
idea of video chatting a family member and scrolling through feed or watching the same
video together can suggest a close relationship if this is a long distance video chat, the idea
of video chatting while socialising through looking through the same photos or videos can
reduce separation anxiety or help long distance relationships, friendships or families.
The idea behind the social networking website of ‘Hype’ is a form of communication
between people in different locations/ countries to appear like they were together in real time
rather than replying to messages at different times. The purpose of ‘Hype’ is suggest a fun
and entertaining interaction between people as the ideas gained from ‘Skype’ would be
more than looking at a camera screen and nothing else; overall, the purpose of ‘Hype’
serves as a multi-purpose website where you can chat with someone and explore your
social feed, although this not to draw the consumer away from the video chat but provide a
sense of enlightenment when communicating. Finally, the main purpose for this social media
product is to allow the chance for users to interact with each other and make new friends,
since the internet has improved and is expanding its knowledge.
7. Hype - Content
The content would need to be easy to use and available for the public to access. Therefore,
having minimal content on one screen would be easy, where the user can access the video
chat as well as scroll through their social network feed; through this content, users are able
to interact with other people instead of one person at a time. The content would connote the
idea of having two separate conversations where one it through the camera and the other is
behind the screen.
The overall content that the website is trying to portray is that it should be appropriate and
suitable for the consumer as this should relate to the colour scheme and font style. Mainly
the content should be eye-catching and visually appealing which would therefore draw in the
consumers to sign up to the website, due to the availability of group video chatting up to four
people. Overall, from this I plan to create social networking site that is inspired by uploading
user-created content (e.g. photos and videos), instant messaging and facilities for blogging.
9. Hype - Target Audience
For this social media websites, I decided to go for Hartley’s theory of ‘Age’ and ‘Gender’
where the age range would be suitable for the user in which I went for the age range of 14 to
34 and that the social media product is aimed at both males and females.
I aimed to have my website with a large age range as I wanted a large target audience to
have entertainment as well as learn the website as a social network, along with teaching
others the main use of the website as a form of communication; and Maslow’s theory of
‘Explorers’ where the user is driven by the social change and interests.
The focal point of my chosen target audience is that I aim the website to entertain and draw
the males and females to connect and socially interact through comments, posts and video
chatting; My target audience would also be represented through my created logo which
would symbolise all genders and the name of the social media app.
With Katz’ theory in mind, the social media website is focused on ‘Personal Identification’
because in the form of communication between friends, this can allow the user to someone
or the situation they are in.
10. Harmony - Target Audience (continued)
Socio-economics Psychographics
‘The social science that studies how economic activity affects and is
shaped by social processes. In general it analyzes how societies
progress, stagnate, or regress because of their local or regional economy,
or the global economy. Societies are divided into 3 groups: social, cultural
and economic.’
In relation to my social website my specific target audience is mainly
aimed towards the social grades of D and E because low grade earners
will receive a low pension as this social networking app will not contribute
to a users’ earning in comparison to Youtube.
‘A study of and classification of people according to their attitude,
aspirations and other psychographic criteria , especially in market
research.’
I accordance with the classification of psychographics, my target audience
focuses on: ‘Aspirers’ and ‘Explorers’; the reason as to why I chose these
psychographics is because my social networking app is for
communication and creativity and through these psychographics users
will be able to mainly seek discovery as they will get inspired and explore.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socioeconomichttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socioeconomic
11. Hype - Format and Style
As this website has been inspired by ‘Skype’ I decided to go for a bright theme with
complimentary colours for the website name and logo.
Using the helpfulness of the website; Dafont.com, wanted my name to have a 3D effect,
therefore I chose the font style: ‘Buba’ because the appearance is very eye-catching for my
target audience, as well as the my chosen colour scheme would compliment and enhance
the name.
My chosen colour scheme of; Red and White as these colours would compliment and
enhance the website screen, name and logo
This mobile app would be more suitable for the desktop, therefore I plan to go for the canvas
size of 1920x1080 and therefore be suitable for a desktop screen.
Font Name What is looks like Colour Scheme
12. Hype - Logo
I wanted to create a logo that symbolises both genders equally. The final result is shown below: First, I
created a canvas on Adobe Photoshop 14.99x 16.02 which was the right size for my logo. Then using the
‘Paint Bucket’ tool on the ‘Background’ layer and I covered the canvas in black, and using the ‘Rectangular
marquee’ tool on the setting of “Add selection” and created two vertical rectangles and one horizontal
rectangle and coloured them in white using the brush tool; this creates the signature ‘H’ for the website name
‘Hype’. On a new layer, I pasted a male and female icon which I got off the internet and using the ‘Quick
selection tool’ I selected the male and female icons and then on a rainbow gradient setting using the
‘Gradient tool’ I drag from the top to the bottom of the canvas, this then created a nice looking gradient.
The final result is a good example towards my first social media website because the male and female icons
which the rainbow gradient is an example of ‘Pride’ and equality between genders and the letter ‘H’ is a good
connotation of the website name.

15. Hype - Competitors
Competing with three other social media website of: Instagram, Facebook and Skype which
are quite popular websites nowadays due to the large increase in the global population. I
plan to create a website with the inspiration from my chosen three competitors and include
features which would ingregue the public to the website and go past the sign up page and
homepage.
With the competitor of Facebook, I plan to create and use a similar layout however I aim to
keep the layout simple and organised, as this would help users with the access to needed
necessities.
From Instagram, I want include the idea of colour which has inspired me from the company
logo; the idea of having colourful themes would be very anchoring towards my aimed target
audience, and therefore my chosen colours of: Red, White and Green would be very visually
appeal to my aimed audience.
Known for their popular facetime calls, Skype is a popular social media app where the user
can facetime a friend or family member for a different location: Adapting this, the social
media website will allow the user to live communicate with friends
16. Hype - Slogan and Convergence
I wanted to go for a slogan that would entice the viewer to website and would also resemble
the name.
Deciding on the anchoring slogan: “Like Skype but with a H”
Because I wanted to connote that most of the inspiration came from the social media app
‘Skype’, although other inspiration came from ‘Facebook’ and ‘Twitter’.
With the idea of convergence, the app will be available on Android and IOS devices as well
as, having a free download: To help with the interaction of the website, users will be able to
post photos and videos like Facebook, but also have the availability to Live Stream/ Chat
with friends.
17. Harmony - Purpose
From the inspiration of the social lipsyncing app; ‘Musical.ly’ and ‘Tik tok’ I decided to
interpret the idea of this social networking app, with the collaboration of snapchat filters and
stickers resulting in a musical social network.
This purpose serves as to build confidence through comedy, singing and develop new skills
as well as entertain. The collaboration of this app and Snapchat, by combining two of the
most popular trends of music, filters and fun transitions, the purpose of ‘Harmony’ would be
fun and entertaining for all ages.
‘Harmony’ is a social networking app where the user can also interact with their friends and
followers through collaborations, and live chatting, and its purpose to entertain and gain
friends, build ones self-esteem and show their creativity, and the interest in free download
from the app store, and I plan to communicate with friends who have similar interests.
18. Harmony - Content
An simple but visually appealing homepage where the user can have access to the needed
necessities such as their, profile, new popular trends, the camera, chats and likes.
Similar to the content layout of both Snapchat and Musical.ly I play to combine and
experiment with the layout ideas as to what kind of content would be attractive to my aimed
target audience.
From the example images shown below, I really like how the content limit is easy to use and
easy to access; for example, Snapchat’s homepage opens directly to the camera, and
Musical.ly’s homepage opens us to new posts every few minutes as well as quick add
where the user can add new people and make new friends.
I plan to have content that would anchor in my target audience to use to app mainly on their
phone.
20. An app that is available for all ages as the aim of the aim is to interact and express their
creativity resulting in the entertainment of the app.
Who?
My plan for this app to be aimed at all ages of both genders
Why?
Inspired by the musical social app, ‘Musical.ly’ my goal is to create content and allow the
public to interact and create their own content in their own style along with the connection to
their other social networking apps such as: Instagram and Facebook.
The reason as to why I decided to aim this social app to an audience of all ages is because
in comparison to ‘Hype’ where their is a specific age gap/limit, I want this social app to be a
continuous connection within the social network.
Harmony - Target Audience
21. Harmony - Target Audience
Katz - Uses and Gratifications Maslow - Hierarchy of Needs Hartley - Subjectives
With the idea of Katz’s theory, for my target audience I
aim to focus one of the main points of ‘Personal
Relationship’ as this allows the audience to build a
close link between each other.
The second main point of Katz’ theory is of ‘Inform and
Educate’ as the content created by the user of my
specific target audience is to create and learn
something from the app and from other people.
Keeping Maslow’s theory in mind, my social
networking app is to be focusing on the main point
of; ‘Social Climbers’ as this idea will allow the
audience to improve their status; although my aim for
this social app is not about popularity but build in
confidence and creativity.
However, with Hartley’s theory the main aim for my social
media product is that the subjectivities of:
Age: With a target audience of all ages to allow a constant
flow of connection between adults and children when
using the app.
Gender: My social networking app should be visually
appealing for both genders as this should be symbolised
by the colour scheme and an organised layout of the app.
Self-image: However, my social app will not be focusing
on the number of followers or likes a users has. With this
subjectivity I plan to have content that will improve the
users’ self-esteem and self-worth
22. Harmony - Target Audience (continued)
Socio-economics Psychographics
‘The social science that studies how economic activity affects and is
shaped by social processes. In general it analyzes how societies
progress, stagnate, or regress because of their local or regional economy,
or the global economy. Societies are divided into 3 groups: social, cultural
and economic.’
For my second social media website, the aimed social grade group is
mainly; ‘C2-D’
I chose this type of social grade due to my aimed target audience being
for both genders and for all ages; I plan to have a large community with
interesting content.
‘A study of and classification of people according to their attitude,
aspirations and other psychographic criteria , especially in market
research.’
In relation to my social media app I plan to have a targeted psychographic
audience of; ‘Explorers’ and ‘Succeeders’ because the social app is
mainly for the communication and connection between different people of
different backgrounds.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socioeconomics
23. Harmony - Format and Style
For my social media app, I wanted to go towards a more eye-catching for my aimed target
audience and would be suitable for both genders; therefore with the colours scheme of red
and black, the contrast in the two colours is very visually appealing and would anchor my
target audience of the social networking app.
Similarly, I wanted to have a font style that would link very well to the colour scheme. After
looking on Dafont.com, I decided to go for the font style ‘Musicals’, and I went for this font
style as the connotations would resemble to social networking app as well as create a
suitable contrast with the colour scheme.
In addition, the format of my social networking app would consists of uploading new content
such as Audio-visual and having a user profile page, as these features would draw in my
aimed target demographic where the content is appropriate and relevant.
Font Name What is looks like Colour Scheme
24. Harmony - Logo
For my logo, I first search a singular music note and saved it as a JPEG file, then I opened it in
Adobe Photoshop with a canvas size of 14.99x 16.02 and opened the image. With the quick
selection tool, then selected the note and copied it over twice, making sure that they were the
same height. Using the rectangular marquee tool, I connected the two notes together which
symbolises a rest on a music sheet. I coloured the “rest” with the brush tool in the colour black
and finally, I double clicked on the layer and added to an ‘outer glow’ and a ‘inner shadow’ to
make the logo stand out more, the final logo result is shown below.
I went for this logo because, even though it resembles my colour scheme and the connected
music notes form the letter ‘H’; ‘Harmony’ is a entertaining lip syncing app where users can
create and explore: Because ‘Harmony’ is as musical social networking app, I decided to create
an app logo that would make a statement that the social network is for entertainment, creativity
and interaction.

27. Harmony - Competitors
Having more competitors for my second social media product would be competing against
four other social media networks. As most of the inspiration has come from the four
networks, the content that ‘Harmony’ consists of would be entertaining, suitable for the
target audience and appropriate for the user.
Facebook: Competing against ‘Harmony’ for an organised layout as well as being able to
like and comment directly under posts
Snapchat: Known for their popularity in the use of filters, stickers and bitmojis; my idea of
my social networking app ‘Harmony’ is to include the idea of having different filters and
stickers that would entice the users to record, create and present.
Musical.ly: An app where the users can upload a short lip-synced video to a wide audience
by including special effects and timed sequences. My idea for my social app is to allow the
user to communicate and present their work in the form of music and videos.
28. Harmony - Slogan and Convergence
As this social app is mostly focused towards the musical side of the social networking
community, I wanted to have a slogan that represents this idea.
I plan to have a short slogan that will be eye-catching but also memorable; therefore I
decided to go for the slogan;
- ‘We are the notes and the community is the music’
I went for this slogan because of the wide musical community of creators where every users
is a note and the larger the community, the better the music.
● However, moving onto the convergence of the app, I plan to have the social app have;
direct messaging privately between users
● Free download on the app store
● Connect using wifi and mobile data
● Not risk of Copyright
29. ‘Copyright protects written, theatrical, musical and artistic works. It can also be applied to film,
book layouts, sound recordings and broadcasts. You can copyright software and databases
as well, since they are classed as literary works.’
In the Media Industry
In relation to my social networking app, the songs downloaded are Copyright free as of the
permission to download the songs will be initiated by the app company.
Copyright and Freelancing
Employers, employees or contractors ask to sign an agreement that concedes the copyright
ownership.
Relating to my social media app, the company will enforce copyright ownership of the
downloaded song however, users can not download the songs off the app.
Infringement
The social app must ensure not to contravene copyright protection for work in a public domain.
In such incidents where it can be near the impossibility to track and ensure legal action
against copyright unless abuse has taken place in which the copyright owner can therefore
take legal actions against fringement.

30. Final Results - Apps
Hype
Harmony
As a rough example as to what it would
look like home a mobile phone home
screen, I took two screenshots of my
phone homescreen and sent them to
myself.
I then copied the app logo and pasted it
over my screenshot and added the
name underneath to make them look
like social media apps
The reason as to why I decided to this
was to test how visually appealing it the
app would look against a certain
background
Overall, I really like how I am able to
visually see how the app would look like
on a mobile device.

49. Conclusion
As a result, I have decided to choose ‘Harmony’ as my final product due to the organised
layout which creates a sense of simplicity and uniqueness, along with the aimed target
audience of all ages and both genders would acts as a Unique Selling Point of the product
and the overall concept of the social media site is quite engaging.
Although, ‘Hype’ allows the user to communicate in real time through the inspiration of
‘Skype’; I chose ‘Harmony’ because of the creativity and influence that this could have an
impact in the creative business of social media.
Furthermore, the user will have the capability of presenting their creativeness in new and
visually engaging ways through songs and music genres and in relation to my graphic
layouts, hand drawn drafts and other key search that I have included in this unit has made
me understand that ‘Harmony’ is a better choice.
