UNIT 1- HOW DO WE INTERACT? NATURAL SCIENCE 4th level
Interaction involves sensory organs, the musculoskeletal system and the
nervous system.
The sensory organs have sensory receptors, that receive information
from an external stimulus. They send information to the nervous system,
which interprets the information and tells the body how to react.
SENSORY ORGANS
Our sensory organs (eyes, ears, tongue, nose and skin) receive
information from our surroundings.
• Eyes are the organs of sight.
• Ears give us the sense of hearing.
• Taste is located in your tongue.
• Smell is located in your nose.
• We perceive touch through our skin.
MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM
The skeleton allows movement, supports the body and protects internal
organs.
• Bones are very hard and strong.
• Joints are the point of contact between two bones.
• Muscles contract to carry out movement.
NERVOUS SYSTEM
The nervous system receives information and decides how to react. It
consists of the brain, the spinal cord and nerves.
• The brain receives and processes sensory information and controls
our movements.
• The spinal cord connects the nerves to the brain.
• The nerves send information to the brain and from the brain to the
body.
