This document summarizes research into using mobile technologies in libraries and the practical experiences of Birmingham City University Library. It discusses a Jisc-funded project to review research on mobile libraries and share best practices. It also describes BCU Library's initiatives using SMS, QR codes, and a mobile app to engage distance learners. The document concludes that researchers should ensure their work is informed by practice, while practitioners should look to research to guide projects and remain aware of current findings. Collaboration between researchers and practitioners benefits both groups.

Drawing on recommendations from studies of student research habits, as well as librarian experience working with Cal Maritime students, attendees will work with a partner to revise one of their own research assignment handouts (prompts).

Archives are arranged and described in accordance with a set of international and national standards. By understanding the theories and standards that underpin the way archives are described, users will be able to use archives catalogues more fully.
My colleague, Jodi Hoover, and I gave this presentation during our first MLS archives course. Our research investigated common reactions to, and perceptions of, archival research, particularly in how various users approach finding aids. In the final portion of our presentation we discussed the problem of "hidden collections" and possible ways to improve patron access to such collections.

The JISC Mobile Infrastructure for Libraries programme is a series of projects in UK supporting initiatives that utilise mobile computing in academic libraries. The presentation will give a brief overview of the institutional projects, and discuss the broader community support project which aims to help support and engage the emerging m-library community by reviewing and synthesising existing research and evidence-based guidance.

He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
