Ujjwala Yojana is a social welfare scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016 that aims to provide LPG connections to below poverty line households to replace unclean cooking fuels. It seeks to protect women's health, empower them, and reduce health hazards and pollution caused by burning fossil fuels for cooking. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme was launched in 2016 to provide LPG connections to women from below poverty line (BPL) households. The scheme aims to provide 5 crore LPG connections over 3 years with financial support of Rs. 1600 per connection. It aims to empower women by reducing indoor air pollution and the time spent on cooking. As of March 2018, over 3.45 crore BPL families have benefited, with Uttar Pradesh providing the most connections. However, the scheme has faced issues with many beneficiaries not being able to afford refills after the initial cylinder.
THE REPORT CARD OF PRADHAN MANTRI UJJWALA YOJANA SCHEME
India is home to more than 24 Crore households out of which about 10 Crore households are still deprived of LPG as cooking fuel and have to rely on firewood, coal, dung – cakes etc. as primary source of cooking. The smoke from burning such fuels causes alarming household pollution and adversely affects the health of Women & children causing several respiratory diseases/ disorders. As per a WHO report, smoke inhaled by women from unclean fuel is equivalent to burning 400 cigarettes in an hour. In addition, women and children have to go through the drudgery of collecting firewood.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) aims to safeguard the health of women & children by providing them with a clean cooking fuel – LPG, so that they don’t have to compromise their health in smoky kitchens or wander in unsafe areas collecting firewood.

New report offers sobering view of the energy transition
Every year the Statistical Review of World Energy offers a behemoth of data on the state of the global energy market. This year’s findings highlight the world’s insatiable demand for energy and the need to speed up the pace of decarbonisation.
Here are our four main takeaways from this year’s report:
Fossil fuel consumption — and emissions — are at record highs
Countries burnt record amounts of oil and coal last year, sending global fossil fuel consumption and emissions to all-time highs, the Energy Institute reported. Oil demand grew 2.6 per cent, surpassing 100mn barrels per day for the first time.
Meanwhile, the share of fossil fuels in the energy mix declined slightly by half a percentage point, but still made up more than 81 per cent of consumption.

- 1. Ujjwala Yojana Ujjwala Yojana is social welfare scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi . it was launched on 1st May 2016 from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. Under the PM Ujjwala Yojana, the government trying too provide LPG connections to BPL households among the whole country. The scheme is aimed at replacing the unclean cooking fuels mostly used in the rural India with the clean and more efficient LPG Objective : 1. Protecting women health and empowering them 2. Cooking food based on Fossil fuel leads to health Hazards , so to reduce it. 3. Reduction in death rates caused by unclean cooking means . 4. Reduction in pollution which is cause by burning fossil fuel . Implementation : This scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. In the history that Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas this is first time that government is implementing such an impactful welfare scheme which will benefit Crores of women those are related to the poorest households. Eligibility : 1. The age of Applicant should be more than 18 yr’s. 2. The women applicant should be among the Below Poverty line and must be a BPL card holder . 3. The women applicant must have an account in the nationalized bank across the country . 4. The applicants household should not hold any other PLG connection in any other member’s name . 5. Aplicant women’s name should not be in list of SECC-2011 data

Budgeting and funding : The scheme is being implemented by using of money saved in LPG subsidy through the “Give-it-Up” campaign, where the families who are earning enough to purchase an un- subsidised gas connection can give up their gas Connections The Central ministry has already allocated Rs. 2000 crore for the Ujjwala Yojana implementation for the financial year 2016-17 and aiming to distribute LPG connections to about 1.5 Crore BPL families within current financial year.A total budgetary allocation of Rs. 8000 Crore has been made by the government for the implementation of the scheme over three years.
