1. Ujjwala Yojana
Ujjwala Yojana is social welfare scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi . it
was launched on 1st May 2016 from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. Under the PM Ujjwala Yojana,
the government trying too provide LPG connections to BPL households among the whole
country. The scheme is aimed at replacing the unclean cooking fuels mostly used in the rural
India with the clean and more efficient LPG
Objective :
1. Protecting women health and empowering them
2. Cooking food based on Fossil fuel leads to health Hazards , so to reduce it.
3. Reduction in death rates caused by unclean cooking means .
4. Reduction in pollution which is cause by burning fossil fuel .
Implementation :
This scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. In the history that
Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas this is first time that government is implementing such
an impactful welfare scheme which will benefit Crores of women those are related to the
poorest households.
Eligibility :
1. The age of Applicant should be more than 18 yr’s.
2. The women applicant should be among the Below Poverty line and must be a BPL card
holder .
3. The women applicant must have an account in the nationalized bank across the country .
4. The applicants household should not hold any other PLG connection in any other
member’s name .
5. Aplicant women’s name should not be in list of SECC-2011 data
2. Budgeting and funding :
The scheme is being implemented by using of money saved in LPG subsidy through the
“Give-it-Up” campaign, where the families who are earning enough to purchase an un-
subsidised gas connection can give up their gas Connections
The Central ministry has already allocated Rs. 2000 crore for the Ujjwala Yojana
implementation for the financial year 2016-17 and aiming to distribute LPG connections to
about 1.5 Crore BPL families within current financial year.A total budgetary allocation of Rs.
8000 Crore has been made by the government for the implementation of the scheme over
three years.
