What Is The Similarities Between Villa Mairea And Baker House
Harry and Mairea Gullichsen, the owners of this villa provided Aalto a chance to express his
thoughts of transformation from traditional to modern architecture. This villa is actually a mixture
of timber strips, brick wall and also rendered masonry. It is not only consist of the traditional
Finnish vernacular and modern design, but also the influence of the English and Japanese
architecture. This can be seen in the sauna of this villa, which is built with wooden walls and flat
grass roof, just like a Japanese tea house. (Richard Weston, 2004)
This building is designed in U shaped, surrounded an inner garden and also a kidney shaped
swimming pool. The modernism idea by Aalto is expressed through the design of an open plan. For
example, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, there are two similarities between Villa Maireaand Baker House. Designs related to
nature and landscape surrounding were never out of Aalto s consideration. For examples, the
vertical tree like columns and curved panels in the library of Villa Mairea and the direction of
the rooms facing to the Charles River of Baker House. In addition, the curve and undulating form
always can be seen in Aalto s works. The shape of the swimming pool and the fireplace represent
the free form in Villa Mairea while the shape of the whole building of Baker House is obviously
showing the curving snake form.
NonethelessпјЊsome of the design ideas in Villa Mairea are different from Baker House. For
examples, the transformation of the design style, from traditional to modern due to the request by
the owner of Villa Mairea, the open concept into the plan and also the transformation of materials
which is the change of the floor furnishing to make the villa more interesting. For Baker House,
open concept cannot fully be used as Aalto considered the privacy of students. The arrangement of
the rooms is also a challenge for Aalto because of the noisy location of this building and the aim to

The European Integration On Different Aspects And Levels...
Historically, attempts at unifying Europe can be traced back as far as 1464 when, after the fall of
Constantinople, King George of Podrebady suggested that a league of Christian Nations should be
formed (Wen, 2013). However, it was only after 1945 that the process for European integration, a
process whereby sovereign states partially relinquish, or pool, national sovereignty to maximize
their relative power and interest began (Kenealy et al., 2015). The theorization European integration
started within the political subfield of International Relations (Pollack, 2001). However, the
European Unionis a complex and unique international organization. Are International Relations (IR)
theories able to account for the origin, development and future of European integration?
We will argue in this essay that IR theories account for European integration on different aspects
and levels. Although Realism offers an interesting interpretation for the genesis of integration,
European Integration is better explained through Liberalism. Howbeit, the shortcomings in their
assumptions lead us to the thought that Constructivism gives a deeper account for European
integration.
Realism is one of the prevailing IR theories. Still, in the context of European integration, it has
struggled to tie in its assumptions with what caused integration and how cooperation has developed.
However, several thinkers have given a realist account of European integration. Integration is an
exceptional event

Ankle Sprains Essay
In general, an ankle sprain is the stretching or tearing of ligaments in the ankle. If a patient it
diagnosed with a medial ankle sprain that means they have either overstretched or torn the
ligaments that are associated with the deltoid ligament. The deltoid ligaments, which are the
primary ligaments involved with this injury, include Posterior tibiotalar, tibiocalcaneal, anterior
tibiotalar, and tibionavicular. All of these originate from the medial malleolus. There are three
different attachment points consisting of the navicular, talus, and calcaneus. Both the PTL and the
tibionavicular ligamentattach to the navicular bone, the ATL attaches to the talus, and the
tibiocalcaneal ligament attaches to the calcaneus. Over time studies have found that there is a
superficial layer made up of the tibiocalcaneal and the tibionavicular and a deep layer containing
the ATL and PTL. The superficial layer is responsible for stabilizing and preventing any posterior
movement of the talus while the deep layer stabilizes the navicular calcaneal... Show more content

experience this injury if they pronate, externally rotate, or abduct their ankle beyond the normal
limits. This can happen in competitive sports or just walking in everyday life. Pain, swelling,
and restricted range of motion will be present in any type of ankle injury. Bruising and trouble
walking will be evident in more severe cases. Also the individual might hear a pop when the
injury first happened. In any case where a someone suspects a sprain a healthcare professional

The Revolutionary Coffee Company, And The Variables That...
Section One Background
The Keurig case study is an interesting examination of the revolutionary coffee company, and the
variables that will shape the future of the company and industry. The basis of the Keurig case study
is the transition for niche product aiming for the mainstream success of everyday use by consumers
in their homes, to one of the industry leaders among the coffee industry giants. Keurig had been
founded to commercialize an innovative technology that allowed coffee lovers to brew one
perfect cup of coffee at a time (Hitt, Hoskisson, Ireland, 2016, p.C 87). Hence, the attempt to
create a new segment within the coffee industry would take time, and education efforts to promote
and sell the benefits of the new coffee makers. After 11 years of trying to perfect the desired
product the company believed could change the industry, Keurig was able to develop the K cup.
The K cup brand was built of the idea of the consumer being able to brew a single cup of coffee at
the perfect temperature and superior tasting at the convenience of their home (Hitt, Hoskisson,
Ireland, 2016, p.C 87). As a result, this new product began to set the market on fire because the new
features were never available for customers, which in turn created the issue of competition. Patents
are key to protecting the intellectual property that generates the sources of knowledge, technology,
and designs used by companies such as Keurig to obtain and maintain an advantage within the

The War of 1812 and Canadian History
The War of 1812 was an influential event, which marks its place in Canadian history. The heroic
efforts of Canadians helped to define who they are, determine what side of the border they live on,
and the flag they salute today. Therefore, The War of 1812 is the most significant historical event
that lay down the foundation for a nation. It united segregated colonies, secured borders with a
strong militia, and achieved the fundamental objective of defense.
Firstly, many groups of colonies worked in isolation because of different incentives. However
during the War of 1812, the small communities from different locations of British North America
united, securing relations. Prior to the war, many settlers in Upper Canada did not feel loyal to
Great Britain. Some were United Empire Loyalists, who had arrived from the North after the
American Revolution and believed that they would support and fight alongside with the Americans
instead of British North America. Others were American and had felt no connection towards the
Crown. But when the declaration for the war was given, both Upper and Lower Canada united and
came together collectively to fight against a common enemy, for the sake of their land. The
Montreal Gazette editor reports on the entire population of the city coming together to defend its
frontier:
All classes of individuals ... have flown to the standard, with the determination of supporting their
national character, and defending their country from the unhallowed

Essential Illness In Lord Of The Flies Analysis
Author George R.R. Martin once said, there is a savage beast in every man, and when you hand
that man a sword or spear and send him forth to war, the beast stirs. Comparably this is
exemplified through the Holocaust. Hitler when a civil man, but once he was handed power, he
instantly overused it which caused him to harm millions of innocent people. Golding and authors
Hersh, Tahiri, and Schwartz, have revealed this situation through their stories to show how
mankind s essential illness affects those of all ages through different conditions. In the novel, Lord
of the Flies, William Golding uses Jack s desire for blood and to killto portray man becoming
savage from a civil state. Similarly the article authors also show that man will lose... Show more

This event fails to show the boys that he should be the leader on the island. As the boys walk
away, [Jack] snatched his knife out of the sheath and slammed it into a tree trunk. Next time
there would be no mercy (Golding 31). He knows now that this incident can never happen again.
It angers him greatly. The next hunting time that the boys experience is when Jack is going to
redeem himself. He embarrasses himself because he is unable to kill the pig. This causes the
boys to like Ralph as a leader even more than they did before. None of the boys even consider
making Jack chief on the island anymore. Jack s actions are further illustrated in Torture at Abu

the real world as well. Abu Ghraib is a prison where inmates face physical, emotional, and sexual
abuse. General Janis Karpinski, commander of the 800th Military Police Brigade and put in charge

When Holly was less than a year old she was diagnosed with pediatric convulsions, which
progressed into a severe form of epilepsy. She is now 14 years old, and needs supervision
constantly due to the severity of her seizures. Because of her seizures she is not able to walk, talk,
or feed herself. Holly s family has exhausted every option medically when it comes to controlling
seizures. The one treatment that they have not tried is medical cannabis. I am an in home caretaker
for Holly, and after interviewing her mother I feel that everyone should understand why medical
cannabis should be legalized for pure medical purposes. Unfortunately the drug has been abused
by recreational users, and now has a bad reputation of being a gateway drug. Some Doctor s also
believe that medical cannabis has no medicinal value. Holly s mother is a Registered Nurse, and
feels that Holly would benefit from medical cannabis; unfortunately it is illegal in Wisconsin.
With the recent increase in funding and research on all medical cannabis products, research is
proving that cannabis does not only help symptoms of epilepsy, but with most neurological
disorders, including multiple sclerosis. Every seizure that a person goes through that lasts more
than three minutes causes brain damage. You can imagine how dangerous it is to be having
dozens of seizures daily, and having no way to control or stop them. If Holly were to have had

The Best Saas Pricing Model For Your Business
What is the best SaaS pricing model for your business?
With the industry showing no signs of slowing down in SaaS, the key principle of successful SaaS
business is often based on understanding the market and being able to offer the right type of
product with a higher value pricing model that brings more revenue in the long haul.
Here I will discuss in depth what are the four most popular SaaS pricing models and what are the
main things to consider before choosing a particular pricing model for your business.
Freemium is a SaaS pricing model that has gained the most popularity among all other pricing
models in today s industry offering free services or features that effectively attracts potential target

2)Feature based Freemium Freemium pricing model where a customer can use a free version of the
product and is able to access the key features when turns into a paid customer. Example for this
model is LinkedIn s premium subscription model where its users must upgrade to a premium in
order to connect with other users outside their network.
3)Time based Freemium Freemium pricing model where a customer can access fully functional
service for a certain period of time and experience a real value of a product to then decide whether
they want to stay and pay for a premium package. SalesForce automation and CRM software is a
good example of this model.
4)Use case Freemium a models where consumers that fall under a specific category like
educational, non commercial use, non profit etc., can access this product for free or with a
discount, for example, Adobe Creative Cloud.
It is important to consider the costs to serve the free users when choosing a Freemium model as
well as to consider how much value to give away for free in order to gain useful customer insights.
Benefits of using Freemium models are a rapid and effective way to establish a target audience and
gain a business value form free customers by leveraging marketing effects or making money with

Alaska climate change and decreasing in population My name is Zachary Rowe, I am going to

various living animal species. The number of large predators living in the southern Beaufort Sea
of Alaska has decreased from 1,500 animals in 2001, to just under 900 in 2010. As the species are
decreasing in numbers, they are now listed as vulnerable by the International Union for the

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have observed that approximately one
million reindeer were alive in 2000, now in 2013 only 700,000 units remain. Also, scientists have
recorded that many ranging deer herds are significantly smaller than they have been in the past
several recorded years. In 2012 the International Fund of Wildlife s according to the national
geographic Jeff Flocked said, There has been roughly a 60 percent decline from historical high
levels, and that the decline was caused by suspected climate change . Researchers in Finland have
found that the grazing of a reindeer could help prevent solar heat absorption, which in the result;
can lead to climate change temperature swings. Scientists have also found out that in areas where
reindeer don t graze there are higher levels of heat radiation. Wooded areas are showing that the
levels of shrubs and trees have also absorbed heat. Swedish scientists has found that reindeer can
also prevent the climate change caused of a spread of invasive species in the Arctic Tundra. A study
from Redlist Industrial Development and Human Activity shows that poaching animals are also
major threats to the reindeers

A Study On Drosophila Melanogaster
Abstract
Drosophila melanogaster was used for this study for their fast reproduction cycles, fast
regenerations, large amounts of offspring for each generation and their capability of living in a
small limited space. The dominant or recessive genotype could be determining by the used of
Mendelian genetic ratios for wild type to mutant s genes. The mutation that this study focuses on is
the defects of the phenotypes in the common fruit fly, example; wing shape, wing sizes, body color
and what the main focus of this experiment is dark eye pigment of the flies. These mutations were
followed for three generations, collectable data for wild type and mutants was obtained for each of

Gender isn t a key factor when it comes to determining a autosomal inheritance, Only sex linked
chromosomes like X or Y have an effect on the ratios for maleand females having mutant alleles.
This phenomenon is cause by the specific genome that each gender has, males have the XY
chromosomes for sex and females have XX sex chromosomes. The reason for using Drosophila
melanogaster flies is for their great genetics and fast reproduction that allows us to see in a short
period of time the Mendelian genetic ratios from one generation to the other. Among this reason
many others are in great importance as well, the common fruit fly has the same type of sex
chromosomes as of humans, as mention previously in the text male flies have the same XY sex
genes as male humans and same for female flies and female humans having XX sex genes. The fast
regeneration, short life span and large number of offspring makes this specific organism a prime
species to examine and study for better understanding of the Mendelian genetic ratios. Research was
done on Drosophila melanogaster for the genetic analysis of sex chromosomes, meiotic mutations
and their effect on recombination, disjunctions and their dominance (Baker and Carpenter, 1972).

In the Pacific Ocean, there is an island made completely out of garbage. It is so big that it is
called the Great Pacific Ocean Patch. Scientists even found that nine percent of the island is made

tons of fishon that one island of garbage. Scientists also say that the patch could possibly double
within the next ten years. The patch is estimated to be the size of Texas to twice the size of the

way to resolve it is to improve the level of wastemanagement used across the world. Waste
management is a solution to all kinds of pollution. The level of waste management in the United

Imprisonment and Social Control Essay
Imprisonment is one of the primary ways in which social control may be achieved; the Sage
Dictionary of Criminology defines social control as a concept used to describe all the ways in which
conformity may be achieved. Throughout time imprisonment and its ideas around social control
have varied. Imprisonment has not always been used for punishment, nor has it always thought
about the prisoners themselves. However when looking at imprisonment it is important to consider
the new penology. Therefore, it needs to be clear what the new penology is. The new penology is
said, not to be about punishing individuals or about rehabilitating them, but about identifying and

Throughout the years, the use of imprisonment has varied, along with its influences of society. It is
thought that although prisons have been around since the thirteenth century, prisons as we know
them now to be have only been around for the last three centuries. The first uses of prisons were
not seen as a form of punishment instead they were used as a way of making people do something.
People would be held in prison until they paid their debts, or awaiting trial and then leading up to
their sentence. McGowen (1995) suggests that from the early 1700s bridewells a house of
correction have existed, however at that time being used merely for vagrants and drunks. At the
end of the sixteenth century there was a shift in punishment to imprisonment, along with this came
a new, more humane idea of reform. Criminals would spend their days of prison carrying out hard
labour. However after the American Revolution, imprisonment took a step back and there was
another change. There was mass overcrowding within the prison service and although the death
penalty was still being used it was a symbol of the power of the state. Therefore, an everyday way
of dealing with offenders would be transportation to the colonies, being either Australia or America.
It was with the work of Beccaria and Bentham that saw a change in imprisonment. Jeremy Bentham
(1748 1832) insisted crime prevention was the only way

The State s Electoral System
POLI 201: Electoral Reform in Canada
Kelsey Dechant

TA: Camilo Torres, T03
The format of a state s electoral system plays a foundational role in the quality of its democracy.
Illiberal democracies, for example, may limit potential opponents of the ruling party; these kinds of
states are generally said to be less democratic than those which encourage political freedom.
Because a nation s electoral structure influences the nature of its democracy, one must take a
critical view on current systems and seek to better them where possible. Though not an extreme
example, the electoral system in Canada can be said to hinder democracy, albeit indirectly, leading
to apathy and discontent amongst the electorate. In a disproportionate system such as Canada s,
citizens voices are not as easily or accurately represented. For this reason, it is of utmost
importance to consider electoral reform so that Canada s system is more proportionate and
conducive to political engagement. Canada s current electoral arrangement is known as a single
member plurality or first past the post system. In this system, the basis of seat distribution is who
has the most votes during an election. For example, a candidate who wins 34 percent of the popular
vote will go on to represent a riding, even if the rest of the votes go to two or more different parties.
Plurality systems increase government stability and effectiveness using a manufactured majority

Who should be responsible for Television Violence? Can we afford to continue ignoring the

This works because it helps eliminate the peer pressure amongst children who can and cannot
watch certain shows. The second half to the village theory is the way government handles
certain regulations. Currently the government assigns the FCC to regulate all media matters.
The FCC enforces laws prohibiting the airing of obscene programming at any time and the
airing of indecent programming or profane language during certain hours. The FCC also has the
ability to revoke a station license, impose a monetary forfeiture or issue a warning if any station
violates the law. However this is limited to nudity and foul language. Congress has not given the
FCC power to regulate violence. So, the message is it s more important to bleep foul language

them to become more aggressive in regulating the time and amount of violence that currently airs.

Symbolism Of The Novel The Assault
Symbolism has a powerful effect on both the conscious and unconscious mind. Conspicuous
symbolism engages the conscious mind, making one think about the many clever connections the
author has made. Symbolism of the more subtle variety can have just as much of an effect on the
reader; even though the reader may miss an intentional connection made by the author, they are
likely to detect it subliminally. This can have a profound impact on the reader s understanding and
impression of a work. In his novel the Assault, a novel about the consequences of a particular
dramatic event that occurred during World War II where the main character s house was
incinerated and all of his close family killed, Harry Mulischtakes advantage of this fact... Show

In this scene, Anton serves as the contrary party to Truus. Because of the emphasis placed on his
youth and naivetГ©, Anton contrasts strongly with the motherly wisdom of Truus. Anton

Anton the innocence of his father. However, he is unable to convince Anton because his origins

Brickham Case
Assignment Three. Case 9.2 Bilateral or Unilateral Contract: In the case of Bickham v
Washington Bank Trust Company, a distinction must be made as to what type of contract has
been made if any. In a unilateral contract is also called a Promise for an Act (Cheeseman, 2013).
The meaning of this is that an act must be completed in order for there to be a contract. An
example of this is if someone was to promise to pay a set amount if a second party painted a wall.
If the wall is not painted then the contract does not happen. A bilateral contract is a contract in
which two parties agree to a promise for a promise (Cheeseman, 2013). In this case there is a
bilateral contract created. The agent of the bank Mr. Adams created an agreement in which Mr.
Bickham would move all finance business to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After two years the bank changes the deal and raises the interest rate on all current and future loans
to Mr. Bickham. This contract was initially performance based and required Mr. Bickham to move
all his financial transactions thru the bank. Once did this he performed his obligation to the bank,
the bank then in turn loaned Mr. Bickham the money at the agreed upon rates. Due to the fact that
this contract is a bilateral type, when the bank changes the deal they are in breach of the contract.
The current loans, regardless of current economic issues the bank is having, should not and cannot
legally be modified without both parties agreeing to the modification. Future loans as they have not
been formally signed and agreed upon would change to the new interest rate. To answer the second

Out Of Gitmo Analysis
In Out of Gitmo by PBS Frontline, it examines the struggles of Guantanamo Bay prisoners
inside, but mostly after they are release from this notorious detention camp. It focuses mainly on
an ex detainee named Mansoor al Dayfi. He is from Yemen and spent 14 years at Gitmo without
being charged. In the program it explains how detainees from Yemen are banned to go back
home after they are released due to the political instability there. Therefore, since Mansoor is from
Yemen he was sent to Serbia after his release. In Out Of Gitmo it shows how Mansoor is
struggling to rebuild his life again due to him being sent to a place where he doesn t know the

The Language Acquisition Of Children
It is a well known fact that all children acquire language the same way, regardless of what the
language in question is. For example, we can create an analogy by comparing the process of
acquiring a language to learning how to play a new game. If one wishes to play a new game he
must first go over some basic rules, which in our case would be: understanding sounds, words and
sentences and how they can be combined into meaningful structures. Since language can be
considered a highly complex game there are many rules which are divided into levels that depend
on each other. Therefore, to understand some higher principles of language one must first acquire
all of the lower ones that support them. Observing how a child acquires a language... Show more

Secondly, the language and dialect of a particular environment in which the child grows up in
affect the acquisition so it is very likely that the child will initially adopt that language and
dialect naturally. Generally, they begin to converse using the language their parents employ, but
soon after, as they start to integrate with other children, they start speaking like them. This
usually begins at the age of three. Children will also pick up on the grammar mainly used within
its community; whether it s standard or non standard grammar doesn t matter to them. For
example if a child grows up in a neighbourhood where the majority of people use sentences such
as I done it , inevitably the child will also pick up this type of speech and use it since he doesn t
know the difference between correct and incorrect grammar. To them one rule applies always as
long as adults use this type of language it remains correct from the child s point of view.
The process, by which humans reach the capacity to comprehend and perceive language, as well as
to produce words and sentences to communicate, is called language acquisition. It is one of the traits
of the human being as other species do not use language to communicate. Generally language
acquisition is referred to as first language acquisition which studies acquisition of the native
language whereas second language acquisition is the acquisition of languages learned after the
native language.

Discussion Of Issue And Related Theory
Discussion of Issue and Related Theory Practicing medicine in the rural areas may be
challenging. Little is known if the primary care providers in the rural areas are willing to address

though she never formally formulated a theory, her scholarly writings and written opinions on
environmental manipulation for the promotion of health is well known to anyone studying nursing.
Nightingale combined spirituality with nursing to give her patients the best possible care possible.
Florence Nightingale began following her mother when she made rounds to the poor areas within
their communities (Heggae, 2013). She later professed receiving a call to serve others. As part of
her Environmental Model, she has thirteen essential points that must be addressed to promote
wellness amongst the sick (Butts Rich, 2011). These points are continually addressed in today s
nursing practice during initial assessment and ongoing assessment. Florence Nightingale points
focuses on cleanliness, food, shelter, observation, and documentation. According to Heggae (2013),
Nightingale focused on nurses being very observant and the ability to document accurately.
Florence Nightingale was adamant in nurses being willing to challenge social policies that will
impede one s ability to heal (Heggae, 2013). Nightingale believed that nurses must have the ability
to manipulate the physical and social factors that affect health and illness so as to enhance patient

Systems Theory Of Systems Thinking Essay
Systems Thinking in Organizations
Systems thinking described human thinking in a spiritual activity of the brain, that is, brainwork,
following the concept of being as the spiritual alive body. It asserts that thinking means the
processing of information that is essential for the management of the human body life (Broks,
2016). This paper discusses systems theory of systems thinking as applied to organizations today, in
particular to learning institutions versus those of traditional organizations, and their functionalities.
Research has taught us that companies are compelling, hierarchically structured entities. Such
dynamism lives in the emergence of significant events at every organizational level (Caldwell,
(2012).
Characteristics of Systems Thinking.
According to Davis, Powell, Dent and Wharff (2015), the features of discovery, action, and framing
are the characteristics of systems thinking that promote organizations success. These three features
analyze the organizations leadership processes between the linkages and interactions of the whole
systems. For example, the three characteristics view the complete organization with its environment
and incorporate the discovery component to explores and guarantee boundaries that include all
concerns parties. The framing nature gathered patterns of behaviors and make feedback loops

Waverly Jong is very different from her mother, Lindo, but Waverly shares some similarities
with her mother. Both women know how to be tricky towards their situations. When married to
Tyan yu in China, Lindo devised a plan to exit the marriage without dishonoring her family.
Lindo said, It was really quite simple. I made the Huangs think it was their idea to get rid of me,
that they would be the ones to say the contract was valid. (Tan, Joy Luck Club 63). Lindo later
stated, They didn t blame me so much. Huang Taitai got her grandson. I got my clothes, a rail
ticket to Peking, and enough money to go to America. (Tan, Joy Luck Club 66). Lindo Jong uses
her deceitfulness to get herself out of the marriage, while Waverly Jong uses her deceitfulness to
trick her opponents in chess. When going against one of her opponents, she described it as the
challenger disappearing, the color ran out of the room, and I saw only my white pieces and his
black ones waiting on the other sides. A light wind began blowing past my ears. It whispered
secrets only I could hear.... Check, I said, as the wind roared with laughter. (Tan, Joy Luck Club,

The first time I was exposed to racial diversity awareness, I was seven years old. The earliest

that changed though, when my family moved to a much smaller city, and lived in a much smaller

Failure In A College Student
Failure is Okay
When a student is transitioning from the home life into the life of a college student, it can be
very difficult. At home, one listens to their parents and normally has a very structured life. In
college, parents make one create a structured life of their own. One of the scariest things for a
college student is failure during this change in their life. Jim Rohn reminds one, Your life does
not get better by chance, it gets better by change. The fear of being on your own and having to
take initiative can be overwhelming and one may fail, but change is a way to reach success. For a
college student to successfully begin life on their own requires self esteem, creation of self image,
and self improvement. While many feel that failure is an indication in lack of self improvement,
Roth the author of The Achievement Habit, believes failure is a validating sign of improvement.
When one begins college, they feel the pressure in many aspects of life. First, they feel pressure
from their parents to always go to class, get good grades, keep their dorm clean, and make new
friends of course. Beyond that, if one is an athlete or a member of a club they feel pressure there
as well. In the book The Achievement Habit, Bernard Roth, founder of the Institute of design at
Stanford states that In life typically the only one keeping a scorecard of your successes and
failures is you (Roth 21). Whether it be from one s coach, instructor, or the members also involved

70.
There are a few reasons why this view struggles to adequately explain the prophecy of the
seventy weeks. The actual time span of the week varies between the time periods. If God was
trying to reveal anything to Daniel about when these things would take place than a good
assumption would be that the weeks would be similar in scope of time. Another issue that
would have to be addressed by proponents of this view is how the first advent of Christ solves
everything that is to take place in verse 24 of Daniel 9. The last thing that needs to be answered
is why does the destruction of Jerusalem take place before the sixty nine weeks if it is clearly lined
out in the prophecy to be after the sixty nine weeks? (verse 26)
The Covenantal View
The covenantal view is a view that also holds that the time periods are symbolic. This view also
begins at the decree given by Cyrus in Ezra 1 after the 70 year captivity around 538 B.C. It has
sixty nine weeks from that date leading up to the death of Christ around 33 A.D. at which point
the seventieth week kicks off and continues until the apocalypse. This view has serious issues
with the periods of time not being equal. The last week for instance has lasted for the previous
2000 years and is continuing through the present time. The sixty nine weeks from the decree of
Cyrus to the death of Christ equal about eight years per week. The strength of this view is that it is

The Pros And Cons Of Prison Reform
I chose to argue that prisons should be designed for reform rather than punishment alone. I
wanted to write on this topic because I would like to see prisons become more focused on
helping criminals change and rehabilitate. I strongly believe in an inherent goodness in every
individual born to this earth. As I started reading Just Mercy, my eyes were opened to how
prisons degrade inmates. There s a stigma that criminals are bad guys. Just because someone did
something bad does not mean they are a bad person. I m very interested in psychology, and one
area I ve focused my studied on is what motivates people to do morally wrong things. It s
intriguing to see how even the vilest murderers once started out as children who were abused.

I attempted to make this argument by convincing my audience that focusing on reform in
prisons would make our communities safer, and is overall the more humane thing to do. I used
logos by listing specific things that could and should be done in prisons, including a statistic of
current crime rates among released prisoners, and using an analogy of what kind of discipline
best helps correct a child s behavior. I used pathos by explaining the fearful atmosphere of
prisons, relating the topic of reform to an innocent child, bringing in the topic of hope, and
discussing values of divine worth and inherent goodness. I used ethos by using a collected,
motivational tone, writing at a formal level, and showing my lack of bias by explaining that I ve
been on the prosecuting side of criminal justice. Finally, I used a rebuttal both at the beginning and
the end of my argument, starting by saying I agree criminals deserve some form of punishment, and
ending by saying I do not excuse crime, however I believe the way we go about treating criminals

Poverty and poor health worldwide are inseparably related. Poor health is a direct effect of
growing up in poverty; as children living in low economic families may not have access to
adequate medical health coverage. Which means the child will not have proper immunization and

It is an established understanding that the progression of society in terms of growth and
development have been shaped vastly in both physical and social aspects. Although the flow of
progression is continuous in developed societies, it is evident that certain countries are not
progressing as they are affected by the outcomes of poverty. These countries are more greatly
impacted when natural disasters occur as they lack in infrastructure, have weak buildings, crowded
population densities and have poor support from the government (Cite 1).

Amartya Sen, an economist and international development theorist, found that the development of
any nation is based the ideological principles of education, health and income. Modernization theory
emphasizes that the underdevelopment of a nation is due to the solidification of tradition values,
and the concurrent disregard for the need for modern education practices. The impact of this is seen
through the thoughts by Isbister who states while the third world is out of commitment towards
areas of science and technology, countries on the northern hemisphere are showing prosperity
both economically and in quality of life (Isbister). Education is a vital catalyst to initiate growth
in a country s level of infrastructure. Educated individuals become aware of scientific and

Organic growth is when a firm expands its existing capacity or range of activities by extending its

businesses come together via a merger or a take over.
There are many implications of external growth. One of the main implications is the ignorance of

I could not figure it out how to use iMovie to make the sound stereo. Luckily on tonight s class
the video technician helped me by confirming that we cannot do that in iMovie yet, but gave me
an interesting suggestion on separating the audio as one single line, this of course once the
video is ready, and then transmitted to another single file to copy one more time as separate line
on the same video. We tried once with him and it looks like it will work. Second Problem was
the narrative sound. After the introduction interviews, the narrative voice volume drops
tremendously to a really low volume. I need to record this audio also with a mike so I can have
the same quality and volume range as the video portions. Other than those minor issues, I am
scheduling my scholarly interviews for next week and also over the weekend I am meeting with
my artist friend who would help me with the animations. I really need to start working on images.
On the other hand, I cannot really start the images if I have not yet made my script the necessary

Should Bartenders Be Held Responsible For Their Positions
What is a bartender? Merriam Webster states it s a person who mixes and serves alcoholic drinks
at a bar. Nowhere in the definition does it say, Attend to behavior , or, Watch for drunken
disorder. Bartenders are those that fill orders of patrons at a bar itself or are given a beverage order
by a waiter or a waitress that he or she will pick up and serve to the patron. (Benson, Beth). Being
a bartender takes patience, and a great deal of responsibility. A job is a job no matter what the
job is. If he or she is hired for a position, he or she is obligated to do what is required of the
position. Bartenders should not be held responsible for the behavior of their patrons. Despite the
fact that patron s feel that bartenders are there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many cases, when a bartender refuses to serve a patron who is under the influence, it
becomes a problem and they get offended. (Killgannon, Corey). Patrons start to become irate,
and not aware of their behavior. In most states, bartenders are required by law to cut you off if
you ve had too much to drink....you re having trouble walking, talking or even just sitting there.
(Bailey, Kristen). In addition to bartenders not being compensated to babysit adults, but rather
bartend, patrons should be aware of his or her drinking limits. A countless number of people
may blame their drunken state on the bartender who shoved drinks down their throats, however,
that does not happen. Bartenders do not force drinks on people, only provide what is asked.
Some may order drinks one by one; on the other hand, one may order drinks all at one time. It is
a case by case basis if the bartender will provide a patron with more than one drink at a time.
Your body puts out serious and obvious warning signs after that amount of alcohol has been
consumed, such as passing out and vomiting. (Wagner, Tom). Many bartenders assume orders
placed for more than one drink are for the patron s party and not for that patron alone. Bartenders
will not guess how much alcohol a patron has already had when they go to the bar. Majority of
bartenders will server his customer as if he has not had anything to drink, besides what he has put
in front of

What Is The Similarities Between Villa Mairea And Baker House Harry and Mairea Gullichsen, the owners of this villa provided Aalto a chance to express his thoughts of transformation from traditional to modern architecture. This villa is actually a mixture of timber strips, brick wall and also rendered masonry. It is not only consist of the traditional Finnish vernacular and modern design, but also the influence of the English and Japanese architecture. This can be seen in the sauna of this villa, which is built with wooden walls and flat grass roof, just like a Japanese tea house. (Richard Weston, 2004) This building is designed in U shaped, surrounded an inner garden and also a kidney shaped swimming pool. The modernism idea by Aalto is expressed through the design of an open plan. For example, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, there are two similarities between Villa Maireaand Baker House. Designs related to nature and landscape surrounding were never out of Aalto s consideration. For examples, the vertical tree like columns and curved panels in the library of Villa Mairea and the direction of the rooms facing to the Charles River of Baker House. In addition, the curve and undulating form always can be seen in Aalto s works. The shape of the swimming pool and the fireplace represent the free form in Villa Mairea while the shape of the whole building of Baker House is obviously showing the curving snake form. NonethelessпјЊsome of the design ideas in Villa Mairea are different from Baker House. For examples, the transformation of the design style, from traditional to modern due to the request by the owner of Villa Mairea, the open concept into the plan and also the transformation of materials which is the change of the floor furnishing to make the villa more interesting. For Baker House, open concept cannot fully be used as Aalto considered the privacy of students. The arrangement of the rooms is also a challenge for Aalto because of the noisy location of this building and the aim to have maximum view of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The European Integration On Different Aspects And Levels... Historically, attempts at unifying Europe can be traced back as far as 1464 when, after the fall of Constantinople, King George of Podrebady suggested that a league of Christian Nations should be formed (Wen, 2013). However, it was only after 1945 that the process for European integration, a process whereby sovereign states partially relinquish, or pool, national sovereignty to maximize their relative power and interest began (Kenealy et al., 2015). The theorization European integration started within the political subfield of International Relations (Pollack, 2001). However, the European Unionis a complex and unique international organization. Are International Relations (IR) theories able to account for the origin, development and future of European integration? We will argue in this essay that IR theories account for European integration on different aspects and levels. Although Realism offers an interesting interpretation for the genesis of integration, European Integration is better explained through Liberalism. Howbeit, the shortcomings in their assumptions lead us to the thought that Constructivism gives a deeper account for European integration. Realism is one of the prevailing IR theories. Still, in the context of European integration, it has struggled to tie in its assumptions with what caused integration and how cooperation has developed. However, several thinkers have given a realist account of European integration. Integration is an exceptional event ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If a patient it diagnosed with a medial ankle sprain that means they have either overstretched or torn the ligaments that are associated with the deltoid ligament. The deltoid ligaments, which are the primary ligaments involved with this injury, include Posterior tibiotalar, tibiocalcaneal, anterior tibiotalar, and tibionavicular. All of these originate from the medial malleolus. There are three different attachment points consisting of the navicular, talus, and calcaneus. Both the PTL and the tibionavicular ligamentattach to the navicular bone, the ATL attaches to the talus, and the tibiocalcaneal ligament attaches to the calcaneus. Over time studies have found that there is a superficial layer made up of the tibiocalcaneal and the tibionavicular and a deep layer containing the ATL and PTL. • 5. The Revolutionary Coffee Company, And The Variables That... Section One Background The Keurig case study is an interesting examination of the revolutionary coffee company, and the variables that will shape the future of the company and industry. The basis of the Keurig case study is the transition for niche product aiming for the mainstream success of everyday use by consumers in their homes, to one of the industry leaders among the coffee industry giants. Keurig had been founded to commercialize an innovative technology that allowed coffee lovers to brew one perfect cup of coffee at a time (Hitt, Hoskisson, Ireland, 2016, p.C 87). Hence, the attempt to create a new segment within the coffee industry would take time, and education efforts to promote and sell the benefits of the new coffee makers. After 11 years of trying to perfect the desired product the company believed could change the industry, Keurig was able to develop the K cup. The K cup brand was built of the idea of the consumer being able to brew a single cup of coffee at the perfect temperature and superior tasting at the convenience of their home (Hitt, Hoskisson, Ireland, 2016, p.C 87). As a result, this new product began to set the market on fire because the new features were never available for customers, which in turn created the issue of competition. Patents are key to protecting the intellectual property that generates the sources of knowledge, technology, and designs used by companies such as Keurig to obtain and maintain an advantage within the ... The heroic efforts of Canadians helped to define who they are, determine what side of the border they live on, and the flag they salute today. Therefore, The War of 1812 is the most significant historical event that lay down the foundation for a nation. It united segregated colonies, secured borders with a strong militia, and achieved the fundamental objective of defense. Firstly, many groups of colonies worked in isolation because of different incentives. However during the War of 1812, the small communities from different locations of British North America united, securing relations. Prior to the war, many settlers in Upper Canada did not feel loyal to Great Britain. Some were United Empire Loyalists, who had arrived from the North after the American Revolution and believed that they would support and fight alongside with the Americans instead of British North America. Others were American and had felt no connection towards the Crown. But when the declaration for the war was given, both Upper and Lower Canada united and came together collectively to fight against a common enemy, for the sake of their land. It is thought that although prisons have been around since the thirteenth century, prisons as we know them now to be have only been around for the last three centuries. The first uses of prisons were not seen as a form of punishment instead they were used as a way of making people do something. People would be held in prison until they paid their debts, or awaiting trial and then leading up to their sentence. McGowen (1995) suggests that from the early 1700s bridewells a house of correction have existed, however at that time being used merely for vagrants and drunks. At the end of the sixteenth century there was a shift in punishment to imprisonment, along with this came a new, more humane idea of reform. Criminals would spend their days of prison carrying out hard labour. However after the American Revolution, imprisonment took a step back and there was another change. There was mass overcrowding within the prison service and although the death penalty was still being used it was a symbol of the power of the state. Therefore, an everyday way of dealing with offenders would be transportation to the colonies, being either Australia or America. • 16. The State s Electoral System POLI 201: Electoral Reform in Canada Kelsey Dechant UCID 30012085 November 10, 2015 TA: Camilo Torres, T03 The format of a state s electoral system plays a foundational role in the quality of its democracy. Illiberal democracies, for example, may limit potential opponents of the ruling party; these kinds of states are generally said to be less democratic than those which encourage political freedom. Because a nation s electoral structure influences the nature of its democracy, one must take a critical view on current systems and seek to better them where possible. Though not an extreme example, the electoral system in Canada can be said to hinder democracy, albeit indirectly, leading to apathy and discontent amongst the electorate. In a disproportionate system such as Canada s, citizens voices are not as easily or accurately represented. For this reason, it is of utmost importance to consider electoral reform so that Canada s system is more proportionate and conducive to political engagement. Canada s current electoral arrangement is known as a single member plurality or first past the post system. In this system, the basis of seat distribution is who has the most votes during an election. For example, a candidate who wins 34 percent of the popular vote will go on to represent a riding, even if the rest of the votes go to two or more different parties. Plurality systems increase government stability and effectiveness using a manufactured majority ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, we can create an analogy by comparing the process of acquiring a language to learning how to play a new game. If one wishes to play a new game he must first go over some basic rules, which in our case would be: understanding sounds, words and sentences and how they can be combined into meaningful structures. Since language can be considered a highly complex game there are many rules which are divided into levels that depend on each other. Therefore, to understand some higher principles of language one must first acquire all of the lower ones that support them. Observing how a child acquires a language... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, the language and dialect of a particular environment in which the child grows up in affect the acquisition so it is very likely that the child will initially adopt that language and dialect naturally. Generally, they begin to converse using the language their parents employ, but soon after, as they start to integrate with other children, they start speaking like them. This usually begins at the age of three. Children will also pick up on the grammar mainly used within its community; whether it s standard or non standard grammar doesn t matter to them. For example if a child grows up in a neighbourhood where the majority of people use sentences such as I done it , inevitably the child will also pick up this type of speech and use it since he doesn t know the difference between correct and incorrect grammar. For the first time in my young life, I realized that there were places that lacked diversity, particularly racial diversity. At home, one listens to their parents and normally has a very structured life. In college, parents make one create a structured life of their own. One of the scariest things for a college student is failure during this change in their life. Jim Rohn reminds one, Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change. The fear of being on your own and having to take initiative can be overwhelming and one may fail, but change is a way to reach success. For a college student to successfully begin life on their own requires self esteem, creation of self image, and self improvement. While many feel that failure is an indication in lack of self improvement, Roth the author of The Achievement Habit, believes failure is a validating sign of improvement. When one begins college, they feel the pressure in many aspects of life. First, they feel pressure from their parents to always go to class, get good grades, keep their dorm clean, and make new friends of course. Beyond that, if one is an athlete or a member of a club they feel pressure there as well. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 70. There are a few reasons why this view struggles to adequately explain the prophecy of the seventy weeks. The actual time span of the week varies between the time periods. If God was trying to reveal anything to Daniel about when these things would take place than a good assumption would be that the weeks would be similar in scope of time. Another issue that would have to be addressed by proponents of this view is how the first advent of Christ solves everything that is to take place in verse 24 of Daniel 9. The last thing that needs to be answered is why does the destruction of Jerusalem take place before the sixty nine weeks if it is clearly lined out in the prophecy to be after the sixty nine weeks? (verse 26) The Covenantal View The covenantal view is a view that also holds that the time periods are symbolic. This view also begins at the decree given by Cyrus in Ezra 1 after the 70 year captivity around 538 B.C. It has sixty nine weeks from that date leading up to the death of Christ around 33 A.D. at which point the seventieth week kicks off and continues until the apocalypse. This view has serious issues with the periods of time not being equal. The last week for instance has lasted for the previous 2000 years and is continuing through the present time. The sixty nine weeks from the decree of Cyrus to the death of Christ equal about eight years per week. The strength of this view is that it is trying to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
