Homeschooling Is An Effective Education
Mahatma Gandhi once said There is no school equal to a decent home and no teacher equal to a
virtuous parent. Homeschooling has evolved into a popular and fast growing alternative to
traditional schooling. In 2003, there was an estimated of 1.1 million homeschooled children, and in
2007 homeschooling had continued to grow to over 1.5 million. Opponents of the homeschooling
method argue that parents are not as qualified to educate their children as teachers are; therefore,
their children will not measure up to the academic level of traditionally schooled children.
Additionally, they argue that homeschooled children will not be on the same social level as
children in regular schools and will lack adequate social skills for the real... Show more content on

Finally, other studies say that parents who home school are spending too much time with their
kids and are swaddling them. (Jeub) Homeschooling disproves all the arguments above. Jeub
affirms that parents are not their child s main educator, but their child learns independently
because of his desire to learn. No matter how qualified parents are, homeschooled children have
proven to excel academically. Also, homeschooling allows children to learn at their own pace.
Every curriculum is designed for a specific child. Individualized learning allows all children s
needs to be met. Homeschooling gives freedom to learn at their own level unlike public schools,
where every child must learn a set curriculum in order to keep up with the class. In response to the
argument that homeschooled children spend too much time with their parents, they actually have
positive relationships with their parents and other adults in the community. Instead of looking at
adults as disciplinarians, many view adults as their mentors as their jobs, other home school
parents, or family friends. Lisa Revero adds that homeschooling provides an environment for the
family to learn and live together harmoniously and frequently unlike a traditionally schooled
family where spending family time is often rare. Life revolves around jobs, endless carpools,
sports games, and play practice, leaving little time for the family to

How Lyrics Perpetuates Male Dominance Against Female
Many of us have heard the famous single Love The Way You Lie which aroused a lot of
controversy when it was released two years ago. Performed by famous American rapper Eminem
and singer Rihanna. The song attempts to portray domestic violence and abusive relationship. The
position of male and female in a relationship and their social interaction are always the hot topic of
contemporary music. In this paper I would like to discuss how this song perpetuates male
dominance against female through four aspects in gender role socialization, including emotion,
action, sex and social interaction. Also I would argue about the ... Show more content on

Being expected of different social roles and offered different responsibilities, males had to be
dominance at most time. Such phenomenon could be found more commonly in Asian culture as
well. In some Asian countries it would be a huge shame for males if they could not make enough
money to raise the entire family and fulfill the wives expenses. Females choose to live as
housewives and rely on the males thus empower the males to be dominance. In conclusion, the song
exhibits the males dominance against females from four perspectives: emotion, action, sex and
social interaction. Also the song portrays that in some situations females choose to be dominated by
males thus empower males to be

Changes In Macbeth
The play Macbeth opens to reveal the chaotic world of good and evil. the main character of
Macbeth is a loyal soldier whose only motivation is his allegiance to his king and country. At the
play s beginning Macbeth is an effective general, brave soldier and Thane of Glamis. Macbeth s
choices as the play progresses cause a definite change in his character which becomes secretive and
vengeful, his motivation shifts from serving his king to helping himself to more power. Macbeths
pride and this hunger for more power causes him to lose everything he values his friendship with
Banquo, his marriage and with his most violent deed he loses his sanity and eventually his life.
Macbeths pride destroys his friendships. When Macbeth considered the witches... Show more

When Macbeth meets the witches for the second time they give him three prophecies that he
demands for. The first of which is a prophecy about Macduff. Macbeth! Macbeth!Macbeth!
Beware Macduff; beware the thane of Fife. (4.1 76 79). Later an apparition tells Macbeth to be
bloody and resolut, to fear no one for none of woman born shall harm him. To which Macbeth
responds with then live Macduff: what need i fear thee? But yet i ll make assurance double sure.
And take a bond of fate: thou shalt not live (4.1.90 92) later on in the same scene Lenox
approaches Macbeth and tells him that Macduff has fled to England, to this news Macbeth
responds with the castle of Macduff i will surprise; seize upon Fife; give to the edge o sword his
wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls that trace him in his line (4.1.166 169). Now the
audience knows that Macduff is not at his castle but in England, the audience also knows that
Macbeth has absolutely no reason at all to kill Macduff s family, this is how the audience knows
that Macbeth has lost his sanity, his actions now are violent and make no sense. The only
possible outcome that comes from Macbeth killing Macduff s family is just adding fuel to the
fire of Macduffs revenge. Why would Macbeth need to kill Macduff s children? The only reason
he would feel the need to would be because he is still envious of those who have children and he
does not. Macbeth s

An Article about Roadside Memorials Essay
For the past two decades, roads became more than a medium of transportation. They turned into
places that hold symbolic meaning to certain families in the form of roadside memorials. Roadside
memorials are stone markers that serve the purpose of honoring the lives of those killed in
automobile accidents. They usually take the shape of a Christian cross, whereby the name of the
deceased is carved in the cross s horizontal line. Normally surrounding the memorial are flowers
and other gifts to illustrate grief. This stone is situated at the location of the person s death.
Roadside memorials are put there by the family and relatives of the victim as a method of
immortalizing their memory. It reassures them that although the person has died,... Show more

Since most roadside memorials are shaped in the form of the Christian cross, they represent a
religious symbol in a public space, and therefore violating the law. Even though some assert that
roadside memorials are distracting, the reality is that they are too small to cause any trouble.
Several articles and documents have provided evidence to support the memorial s insignificantly
small size. For instance it is mentioned in the article Roadside Memorials that the typical memorial
is between 1 and 3 feet high with a breadth of about 1ВЅ feet. The article also states that if you are
between 50 to 100 yards away from the memorial, it would be challenging to see it (Collins and
Rhine 238). Therefore, it is highly unlikely for most drivers to spot roadside memorials. However,
restrictions should be added to ensure that the memorials remain in a size that is not big enough to
cause trouble. Additionally, opponents to the idea of the memorials argue that they should be
removed for distracting drivers, but do not make such an argument against billboards and other
commercial signs. These signs are much larger than roadside memorials and are usually more
colorful, meaning they are much more likely to grab the attention of drivers. Therefore, supporting
the removal of roadside memorials, but not billboards would be applying a double standard
judgment. If the opponents of the placement of roadside memorials do not argue that billboards are
distracting, they should not have

Search Engine Optimization, Or Seo
Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a technical marketing discipline, the purpose of which
is to make a website relevant, reachable, and visible to users searching for keywords and topics.
(Linkdex). With an average of 3 billion web queries each day, internet search is critical for a
business to gain edge over its competition. SEO has become the standard for marketers as a way to
be found in search to attract qualified traffic and leads.
From a business perspective, SEO cannot be treated as a separate entity from a company s overall
marketing plan. In order to be successful, Search Engine Optimization considerations should play a
role in guiding the public relations, development, and marketing team efforts so that reputation, ...

Ranking is how the search engine decides to deliver the most relevant results to searchers
(Copyblogger). This is accomplished by algorithmic functions that rank search results based on the
best guess of what someone was really looking for during their web query.
One obvious coding technique that is used to optimize search ability is the strategic placement
of identifying search engine keywords in the HTML title tag, meta description tag, and header
tags. However, before a web developer can start optimizing his site for a certain keyword or
phrase, he needs to understand what keywords are the best fit for his business. To do so, a web
developer may use a keyword search tool such as Google AdWords, that provide targeted
keywords that are relevant to a web developer s audience, are pulling in a good amount of search
traffic, and are not too difficult to rank. After a web developer has researched and selected which
keywords would best match his web page, he must then start incorporating those keywords into
important parts of the webpage. HTML titles have always been and remain the most important
HTML signal that search engines use to understand what a page is about. Unique, descriptive titles
are the most successful in being searched. The meta description tag, one of the oldest supported
HTML elements, allows you to suggest how you d like your pages to be described in

An Invasive Point Of View

BOT 1 Term Paper
11/7/14
An Invasive Point of View
Day to day, we are faced with perpetual decisions based on practical criteria. They have become
so engrained within our regular schedule that we may not even think about the consequences. The
automatic movements that we go through each day usually don t require a major ethical
decision. However, when they do, values, world views and personal interest are all considered.
The decision making process is very often initiated with a world view, or with some sort of bias.
The outcome is based on one s understanding of the facts, or even based on one s upbringing.
Environmental ethics often come into play when considering invasive species. On a global scale, we
live in a high array of technological advances in transportation. We are able to travel across vast
distances that open pathways for ourselves and exotic plant hitch hikers. The more we travel, the
more species we transport. The issue arises of whether or not this is a natural process in which
nature should be able to take its course. When considering this, multiple perspectives are formed in
the process. Some intend to take advantage of this resource, while others aim to eradicate the entire
non native population. While many people understand that an invasive species has the potential of
being harmful, they still intend to let nature run its course. Therefore, it is important to understand
all perspectives that factor into the decision making process

Presentation of Research Proposal
Turn Taking Management for Multimodal Dialogue Systems
Introduction
Natural dialogue involves the management of many communicative resources in a complex
activity. Participants in a conversation transmit information, agree and disagree between each other,
monitor the communicative status of their messages, make decisions about non linguistic actions
and, among other things, they deal with social conventions about who is to talk and when.
Conversations are joint actions in which participants individually perform coordinated activities
(Clark, 1996). It is quite illustrative the metaphor proposed by Clark about dialoguing as dancing
waltz. Each individual action is coordinated in a choreographic way with the actions of the other
person. How and when to talk is learned since childhood, it is known that face to face conversation
is the matrix of language acquisition. It is common to listen parents telling to kids when is
expected from them to talk (for instance, they motivate responses if a question, an order or a
hello was expressed, they show when is expected to say thank you or you are welcome ). For the
last twenty years, various efforts have sprung from the interest to develop annotation models that
reflect the diverse ways in which participants behaviors contribute to conversation (Ahrenberg, et
al., 1995; HCRC, Carletta, et al., 1996; DAMSL, Allen Core, 1997). These tagging schemes are
based on dialogue act annotation. They differ from each other in the

Women s Women Faced Gender Discrimination
Prior to the 1970 s women faced gender discrimination in politics in regards to plausibility about
political obligation that falls along the lines of gender. Various gender representation within a
representative democracy were consistent of male supremacy. Women were denied full citizenship
rights such as the right to vote. Women fought for their suffrage in order to gain the right to vote
and be entitled social, civil, and moral rights for themselves. Despite the increasing presence of
women in American Politics, genderstereotypes still existed. In 1972, Congress passed Title IX in
order to end sex based discriminationin higher education. Although, the act never explicitly states
athletics, the act did become recognized frequently in the case of athletics in higher education. In
addition to athletics, Title IX extends to prohibiting gender bias in education and the workplace.
Even though, there are gains in gender equality with the passage of Title IX, stereotypical bias
infiltrate prejudices that frame the full potential of Title IX.
Despite the fact that the major emphasis and repercussion of Title IX focused on the areas of
intercollegiate athletics, the original document did not mention athletics. However, every person
should be entitled to the equal right to participate in sports, despite the color of their skin, social
status, or gender. Sports build character and emphasizes the values of teamwork, perseverance, and

Xaverian Values Analysis
The Xaverian values are an integral piece of the mission of Good Counsel and, ideally, of its
students as well. These values are: humility, simplicity, compassion, zeal, and trust. Throughout my
service, some which was completed to fulfill the school requirement and some which was not, and
any leadership opportunities I participated in, I was, at the time unknowingly, striving to fulfill
these values. To truly serve, or to truly lead, the understanding and application of these values is
crucial. A specific instance of leadership and service in which my demonstration of these values is
evident was my volunteer work with Easter Seals. I was a respite volunteer with Easter Seals. This
meant that I worked one on one with disabled children from... Show more content on

I demonstrated this value while volunteering with Easter Seals by freeing the lives of the parents
of children who participated in the respite trips from a good deal of complexity. Through
volunteering with this organization, as a whole, we were able to alleviate complexity and
simplify, if only for a while, the lives of these parents so that they were able to accomplish other
things or take a much needed break. This opportunity to participate as a volunteer on respite
trips led to think about and later attempt to display the Xaverian value of humility. Being a part
of an organization like this one prompted me to consider that I had a part in it, but that I was by
no means the most important part. Realizing this led to the demonstration of this value by taking
care to fulfill my responsibilities to the best of my abilities while also keeping in mind that I
was making a difference but I was not the deciding factor and that that was okay. Compassion is
a Xaverian value that I found fairly easy to demonstrate in the context of Easter Seals. One of the
reasons I decided to volunteer with this organization was the fact that it helped people that I had
a huge amount of sympathy for and that I wanted to help. I was able to help make the lives of
the families who participated in the respite trips better and easier, for the kids on the trips by
giving them the chance to experience things they might not otherwise have had the chance to and
for the parents by allowing them the time to accomplish other things or some much needed time
to recharge. This service also presented me with the opportunity to display the Xaverian value of
zeal. Easter Seals serves a cause that I believe in and volunteering with them allows me to also
serve this cause and to do so with fervor. This fervor is what motivated me to continue to volunteer
there and to make sure that every time I did, my responsibilities were fulfilled to

Pros And Cons Of The Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Hajdik 1
Concept, Controversy, and Commemoration:
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial
No war in American history not fought on American soil can claim to have as big an impact on
America as a whole than the Vietnam War. The social and political divisions caused by the war
changed America as a nation and especially changed those who fought in it. Despite the sacrifices
of these veterans, both those who returned and those who did not, Americans on both sides forgot
or even vilified those who fought, either as losers or as tokens of an unjust war. To remedy this
problem through reconciliation and honor those who died in Vietnam, a group of veterans
campaigned to build a national memorial in Washington, D.C. From its original design to the present

A representative for the Pentagon, whom the veterans thought would offer strong support for
the memorial, essentially said, Why should we build a memorial to losers? (Scruggs 30). Some
politicians and others agreed, calling the veterans crybabies who should receive less from the
government (Scruggs 31). Many Americans, however, especially veterans and those who had
lost loved ones in the war, strongly supported the memorial. Tens of thousands of letters thanking
the Fund and offering support accompanied widely varying donations to the memorial, such as
one that said, The whole town turned out for the funeral for he was the only boy who died there
from this small town but there it ended. There is no recognition of his death anywhere so far as
the town he grew up in is concerned. (Scruggs 26). Some that supported the Memorial were even
a part of those who had condemned the war I opposed the war. I marched (and prayed) for peace. I
counseled C.O.s. But I will never, never forget what so many gave of what they had for what they
believed. And many of these, tragically, were the best we had. (Scruggs 27). To those at the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund receiving the letters, both supporting and condemning, they
showed equal amounts of the pain that ran deeply through America, and they began to work harder
at their attempt to heal this

The Importance Of Sexual Assault In Hollywood
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! For decades, Hollywood had been considered the place where
dreams come true. Women who wanted fame and money went into the entertainment industry to
make their dreams come true, getting money, and having fame e entertainment industry to make it
happen, but at what cost? Up and coming actresses did not expect their diginity and pride would be
stripped from them in just a matter of days, weeks, or months. Soon these actresses learned the
horrifying truth about Hollywood. Sexual assaultran Hollywood; that was the way to get the part
and stay relevant. Now they are starting to fight back. Recent revelations of pervasive sexual
assault in Hollywood illustrate that if actresses speak out about these incidents, change may
result in women being treated with dignity. Pervasive sexual assault in Hollywood is no secret.
The casting couch has been used to either make or break actresses careers since the 1920s. This
unspoken taboo has been a part of the stucture of what dreams are made of. Long before Weinstein
there was Louis B. Mayer, who co founded Metro Goldwyn Mayerstudios in 1924. Mayer, the
ground zero of this kind of abuse, had means, motive, opportunity and that critical piece of the
puzzle: the whip. If women didn t comply, he d threaten to ruin their careers or those of their loved
ones (Adams). This taboo is so vast in Hollywood that no actress is immuned to these incidents. The
victimization of powerful celebrities shows that no woman

At the University of Michigan, Noonan attended a luncheon talk by Curtis Hayes, a worker for the
Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), which was a student run civil rights
organization (Noonan 484). Meeting Hayes, who was almost the same age as her, inspired
Noonan to join the Movement (Noonan 484). Soon after, Tom Hayden, who had just returned
from a Freedom Ride in Georgia, spoke with Noonan about his experiences and further inspired,
as well as encouraged, Noonan to work with the Movement (Noonan 484). In 1962, Noonan
attended a joint SNCC and Students for a Democratic Society (which she was a member of at
the time) conference, where she spoke with various SNCC workers (Noonan 484). These
conversations convinced Noonan of the logic and practicality of their organization s vision, and
the members welcoming spirit convinced Noonan to join SNCC s work with the Southern
Freedom Movement (Noonan 485). After her freshman year at the University of Michigan,
Noonan told her parents she wanted to drop out of school to work in Mississippi as a full time
civil rights organizer (Noonan 485). Her parents strongly feared for her safety and, since she was
still underage, her parents insisted she take summer classes in Detroit and find a civil rights
activity closer to home (Noonan 485). That summer, Noonan took classes taught by local radicals,

Essay on Campaign Finance Issues
GENERAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION
We are not a democracy, yet we do have a voice in our own government. Elections are the choice
microphones for many citizens. There on Election Day, they have the right of making their voices
heard; however, many interest groups and a few individuals seem to have a louder voice due to
campaign financing:
No U.S. official should be beholden to one or a few groups. And no group or individual should
have a greater claim on our elected leaders than any other. That s the way it should work. But it is
growing clear to more and more Americans that it doesn t (McCarthy 24).

Money is the most degrading, corrupting force in American politics today (McCarthy xi).
The idea behind fundraising for elections was a success at first, giving donors another way to
voice their opinions and open up the doors for communication once the elected officials fully
realized who they owed their position to. However, this went too far. Those whose candidate did
not win were left with an official who will accept the ideas of a past donor before any others. This
favoritism, while beneficial to certain donors, proves damaging to others. Also, when before, all
donated and spoke their mind, now only certain groups and people donate and not even all of them
speak their mind. The individual doesn t count anymore (McCarthy 25).

theories regarding the reasons he voted the way he did and why certain groups financially
supported his campaign. Scholars for thousands of years have pondered the question of whether it
was the chicken or the egg, which came first. In the case of campaigning and finance, such seems to
be the question. Because voters had the opportunity of watching his career before 1996, it s
practically impossible to be able to tell

It also is not efficient to have all of these materials on hand, especially when they are not even

equating what was going on during the hike to the manufacturing plant and realized that at the
plant the inventory is going up, throughput is going down, and operational expense is probably
increasing. So that means he was realizing that they had too much inventory on hand at the plant,
which was causing their operational expense to increase as well. By page 119 in The Goal: A
Process of Ongoing Improvement we have not seen what Alex s discovery about the inventory
has does for the plant. The third constraint for the manufacturing plant is supplier because of all
of the backed up orders. When there is a supplier constraint then it has a long lead time,
unreliable, and/or substandard quality. This is what is happening at the manufacturing plant
because of how overdue the products are by the time they are finished. Since they have so many
backed up orders it causes for the potential of making money to decrease and the likelihood of
those customers to come back to the plant for more services to decrease. When Alex is on the hike

The Obamacare A Kind Of Social Insurance Policy
United States (US) political deadlock seems to be an unbreakable problem. The problem mainly
comes from the relationship between two parties, the relations of president and congress, and the
voting system of the congress. Since US congress and president controlled by two major
political parties separately, gridlock seems to be a certain problem in their terms of political
responsibility. For instance, president Obama announced his ambitious plan on health care issues.
The Obamacare a kind of social insurance policy by president Obama, also it is the trigger of the
gridlock at 2012. Political deadlock mainly comes from the differences of ideology between two
parties in terms of taxation, immigration, and others. This paper analyzes the problem of the
political deadlock in terms of controllability, coalition.
Lack of controllability Mostly the political deadlock triggered by a debatable issue or policy, such
as Andrew Johnson s impeachment (1865), Civil Right Act (1957), Bill Clintons impeachment
(1998), and Obamacare (2012). Debatable issue was not the only trigger of political gridlock,
political parties lacking controllability more important than issues. Mostly, when the deadlock
comes out, that was very few deficits between both parties in the congress. In table 1, the democrat
only controls 12 out of 51 seats in the senate, the controllability in the House of representative was
much better. They controls 80 out of 183, but the republican controlled other seats at

Marketing Plan For The Dayton Company
In 1881, George Dayton, a New York native who spent years working in banks and real estate

decade of growth, Dayton Dry Goods Company was renamed to The Dayton Company to mirror

Minneapolis, The Dayton Company made a major move in 1956, by deciding to branch out and

Company decided to introduce a new store to customers and on May 1, 1962, The Dayton

Theoretical And Ethical Basis Of Practice
Theoretical and Ethical Basis of Practice
Nursing theories and ethical principles serve as the foundation of nursing practice, education, and
research (Colley, 2003; Antipuesto, 2011). This paper s purpose is to elaborate on author s
discussion of her phenomenon of interest (POI) on newborn screening for Critical Congenital
Heart Defects (CCHD). The objectives of this paper are to relate the metaparadigm of nursing to
the POI, select and discuss a grand nursing theory and a middle range theory that can be applied to
the POI, examine the POI as it relates to the complexity science framework, and to distinguish
ethical principles that apply to the POI.
Newborn Screening for Critical Congenital Heart Defects Critical Congenital Heart Defect (CCHD)
is a subgroup of congenital heart defects that normally necessitates surgical intervention or
catheterization procedure during the neonatal period (Good, Canale, Goodman, Yeager, 2015).
According to Mahle et al. (2009), although there are measures taken to detect CCHD like prenatal
ultrasound and comprehensive newborn physical examination during newborn s birth
hospitalization, there is still a significant percentage of newborns with CCHD that is left
undetected and discharged home without being diagnosed. Delay in diagnosis of CCHD increases
morbidity and mortality (Mahle et al., 2009). In response to this, Riede et al. (2010) mentioned that
the diagnostic gap in CCHD could be bridged by screening newborns using pulse oximetry

I shot a hole in the bedroom door while my wife was sleeping because I thought I heard someone
coming up the stairs. At this point, the man was maybe twenty feet away from me. I could feel
my heart pounding against my chest, my mind urging me to bolt for the door and make an escape.
More questions flashed through my mind, all of them without answers. Who are you? What are
you going to do to me? What do you WANT? I was being noticeably paranoid, and the bartender

Term Paper Making the Most of Foreign Factories
Jeremy Rochford
California State University San Marcos
Abstract
The article Making the Most of Foreign Factories , written by Kasra Ferdows discusses how
companies can and should obtain the full potential of their factories abroad. She begins by stating
that there are two approaches to manufacturing and a factory s importance to the company is based
on the approach the manager of the factory takes. She also exclaims how she thinks the gap
between companies that treat their foreign factories as a source of competitive advantage and those
that do not is widening.
Next, Ferdows discusses the three current realities of global business. She follows by illustrating

Powerful suppliers increase the cost of purchased materials. (Miltenburg). The next force is the
bargaining power of buyers. The more options buyers have for a certain product the more power
they have. Powerful customers decrease prices for finished products. (Miltenburg). The last force is
the rivalry among competitors in the industry. Tough competition decreases prices and increases
costs such as marketing and new product research and development. (Miltenburg). However, in the
past couple of years there has been a new trend, bringing manufacturing back to the United States.
According to Anne Kates Smith, the Boston Consulting Group predicts a manufacturing
renaissance in the United States to be in full gear by the year 2020. There are many reasons for this
trend starting with rising wages abroad and high oil prices, which have increased shipping costs
dramatically. Offshoring companies have also encountered hidden costs resulting from long lead
times, quality control issues, and the separation of production from design and engineering teams.
(Smith). Another main attraction to the United States is that the cost of factory powered natural
gas is much less in the United States than in other countries. This factory powered natural gas is not
only a main component in producing chemicals, but as more companies begin to focus on being
socially responsible the demand for such

Home Ranges And The Temporal Distribution Of That Use Is...
Estimating home ranges and understanding habitat use and the temporal distribution of that use is
essential for understanding and conserving wildlife populations. As a concept, home range can be
defined as the area traversed by an individual in its normal activities of foraging, mating and
caring for young (Burt, 1943). In this way, a home range can be thought of as a spatial depiction of
behaviors fundamental to a species evolution and persistence. While its ecological significance is
clear, the anthropocentric importance of a species home range derives from its role in mediating
human wildlife interactions and wildlife management. The size and amount of overlap among
individuals home ranges as well as the timing of habitat use within a home range will affect the
probability and nature of human wildlife encounters. In most jurisdictions, habitat management is a
fundamental component of wildlife management programs(E. J. Bergman, Bishop, Freddy, White,
Doherty, 2014; K. Bergman, 2001; Fiedler, Landis, Wratten, 2008). This holds true for American
black bears (Ursus americanus) which are classified as a game species in 28 of the 41 states in
which they are present (Hristienko McDonald, 2007). Contemporary management programs often
center on augmenting or maintaining high quality wildlife habitat, the definition of which has
primarily depended on a basic understanding of the species general ecology. Black bears are the
most widely distributed and smallest bodied

They also tend to have very strong personalities and are usually very direct and sometimes blunt.

In modern astronomy, a constellation is an internationally defined area of the celestial sphere.
These areas are grouped around asterisms (which themselves are generally referred to in non

He says that if that was the case, then the revolution would not have been worth it. We know
now that is exactly what became of Castro a powerful man that became the king figure that he so

people. No army can do more than the people. (342) He comments that the people won the war.
Without an army, tanks, planes or heavy guns, the people were ...able to win the battle for
liberty. (342) He states that the people were important. The revolution does not serve my
interests as a person, nor those of any other commander or captain. The interests the revolution

he trying to convince the people or himself? One of most shocking statements that Fidel makes
is, And I want to tell the people and the mothers of Cuba that I will resolve all problems without

There was plenty of blood shed during the revolution and after Castro was in control of Cuba, his

As long as state legislators are not bound by the commitments of preceding legislatures or by

action to boost education funding can be argued in subsequent years as nonbinding. Legislators
can and have successfully argued that the current legislature cannot be fiscally bound to the
fiscal commitment of a previous legislature (i.e. MAEP funding). In the case of a lottery, that
would mean if a Mississippi ticket won the lottery, state legislators would most likely rescind all

Educators would meekly take their windfall and continue to do the best they could with what they

considered normal and some are considered not so normal. These social norms are important so
that people can act a certain way in society. Doing a norm violation project for this class has been
a fun project. Norms are expectations of a behavior that are considered to be the right way to act.
What is considered right behavior? Some things I do in my life can be considered a normor a norm
violation. Norm violations are stepping away from what our society considers to be a norm. There
are a few different types of norms. Norms that are not enforced are called folkways. Folkways can
be considered people who are half naked in a gay parade. Norms that are strictly enforced because
they are a core value of a group are mores. Mores are when a woman would be exposing her breast
in the gay parade.
On February 17, 2016 I decided to commit my norm violation. I went into the Goodwill store on
Olive Drive near my home; it was in the late afternoon after five pm. I decided to do my violation
on breast feeding in public with older children because it is such a controversial issue in our
society. The children were my own kids and have been breast feed before, so they knew what was
to be expected. My oldest child is an eleven year old male, my middle child is a nine year old male
and my youngest child is a six year old female. I wore loose fitting clothes so this could be
possible. We began by looking

The Prudhoe Bay Oil Spill and a Commitment to Being Green
Michelle L. Staton
Case Summary The Angelo Persian Oil Company was formed in 1909 by a wealthy Englishman
named William Knox D Arcy. It did not operate under the British Petroleum(BP) name until 1954.
In early 1959, BP discovered hydrocarbons under the North Sea and Alaska, and found the West
Sole gas field in 1965 which was the first oil exploration success in British waters. In 1969, BP
discovered major oil deposits in Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope of Alaska. The refining and
marketing of the Prudhoe Bay oil fields was handled by Standard Oil Company of Ohio, which also
took over BP s leases at Prudhoe Bay in exchange for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Things were going very well for BP, until March 2006 when crews discovered a small hole in the
pipeline at the Prudhoe Bay oil fields. The company is responsible for the northern Alaskan oil
fields and had no indication there was a leak until it was too late. Between 200,000 and 270,000
gallons of crude oil leaked out of the hole in the pipeline over a five day period, and became the
second worst oil spill in the United States. The worst oil spill was a result of the Exxon Valdez
tanker hitting a barrier reef in Alaska s Prince William Sound in 1989. More than 11 million
gallons of crude oil was accidentally released into the water, and the region is still impacted
environmentally from the spill. The leaking pipeline disaster will have very similar severe
environmental impacts on the region and will definitely taint the company s image of safety and
environmentally friendly operations for many years to come. With the increase in oil exploration
in the region, the quality of oil has significantly declined. The lower quality oil flowing through
the pipeline causes stress on the pipes leading to corrosion and deterioration. Some of the pipeline
is underground and, therefore, making it difficult to detect a leak in those areas. BP has increased
its budget to inspect the pipeline for corrosion, as well as using an additive to breakdown
emulsions in the oil. The pipeline was

Differences Between Two Languages Based On The Languages
Summary The main aim of this report is to highlight differences between two languages based
on the program developed for both the languages. A reader writer program was created in two
languages, i.e. JAVA and PYTHON. The program creates 4 threads each of which performs 5 read
/write operations to the shared location. These threads simulate a coin flip. If the coin flip results
in Heads (H) Reading from the shared location is performed and if the coin flip results in Tails (T)
Writing to the shared memory location is performed. To achieve this concurrency and parallel
programming, Semaphores and Monitor is used. Based on the output of the programs, two
languages are then differentiate based on certain given comparison and evaluation criteria and
concluded which of the two chosen languages is better for concurrency and simultaneously
programming. Keywords: Semaphore, Monitor, Reader Writer, Concurrency, Thread. 1.
Introduction Concurrency and Parallel programming in Computer Science, refers to act of
performing several computations simultaneously by interacting with each other and using the same
memory location to perform various operations. Reader Writer is a common example of
concurrency and parallel programming. In this problem, multiple threads access the same memory
location at any given time. Two or more threads can read from the shared location at the same time,
but same cannot be said for the writer. When a writer thread is writing, no other thread, whether it s

The Earthquake
The Earthquake
It was a sunny day outside. The heat from the sun was hitting my face as I was painting the hot
summer day onto my canvas. The colors made the image stand out and made it bright. The
yellows added the joy to the picture while the greens freshened up the image. It was burning
outside and my throat felt dry, like the Sahara desert. I reached for my cold cup filled with icy
lemonade. I slowly took the last sip. I felt hydrated as the ice cubes were hitting my lips and
little bits traveling down my throat. My palms were covered in water drops from the cup. I went
back to painting after I dried my hands and gently wiped my lips with a soft napkin. After painting
for awhile I decided to take a small break. I held my cup tightly and ran downstairs with little drops
dripping from the cup. There was just a little bit of lemonade left so I decided to carefully pour the
rest into my cup and head upstairs to my room. As you may know almost everyone has siblings,
including me. While my parents were not home, I was painting my beautiful picture, my older
sister decided to show up. Her name is Jasmine. She s fifteen, with long, brown locks, spring
green eyes, and pale skin with freckles sprinkled on her nose and her rosy cheeks. She was
beautiful but her soul wasn t. I could feel something was up as she bursted through my door. I can

We want to be able to take the best capabilities we have and leverage them in all our companies

David Whitman, Whirlpool CEO, 1994
Quoted in the Harvard Business Review
In 1989, Whirlpool Corporation (Whirlpool) embarked on an ambitious global expansion with the
objective of becoming the world market leader in home appliances. Beginning with the purchase of
a majority stake in an appliance company owned by Philips, the Dutch electronics firm, Whirlpool
purchased a majority stake in an Indian firm, established four joint ventures in China, and made
significant new investments in its Latin America operations.

With limited growth opportunities and a handful of major players in the United States, it was
critical that firms focus on cost reduction, productive efficiency, and product quality. Product
innovation was also critical, although few major innovations had occurred in recent years. The
apppliance firms segmented their products according to different consumers needs, and each strived
to achieve greater economies of scale. Still, by the end of the 1990s, the competitive landscape
remained unattractive. Profit margins continued to decline for most firms. Many analysts believed
that the market for appliances was saturated and that there would be little increase in growth rates.
This saturation had left the distributors focusing primarily on replacement purchases and purchases
for new housing developments.

The Prophets Of The Old Testament Speak A Great Deal
The prophets of the Old Testament speak a great deal about idolatry, social injustice, and religious
ritualism. These were serious problems for the people of Israel and Judah and are still problems
for many people today.
Idolatry is probably one of the most talked about problems throughout the whole history of Israel
and Judah. From Moses and Arron with the golden calf right up until the Assyrian and
Babylonian captivity we see the people of Israel and Judah repeatedly turn away from God to
worship idols. Every time they turned away from Him, God would send a prophet to rebuke His
people and to preach judgement if they did not repent.
One of the most famous of the prophets who spoke on idolatry was Isaiah who preached to the

Ezekiel writes that he saw the Shekinah Glory of God depart from Jerusalem because of the idol
worship that was taking place even in the temple. He also says that the Lord will be against
Israel because of their idolatry. Ezekiel 6:3 4 ESV You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the
Lord God! Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the
valleys:Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places. Your
altars shall become desolate, and your incense altars shall be broken, and I will cast down your
slain before your idols
Another stumbling block for the people of Israel was social injustice. Those who were rich and
powerful were oppressing and enslaving the poor. God did not approve of this practice and sent
several prophets to condemn it. Some of those prophets were Amos, Micah, and Nahum who went
to both the northern and southern kingdoms of Israel preaching repentance.
The prophet God sent to condemn the practice of social injustice in the northern kingdom of Israel
was Amos. Amos 5:11 12 ESV Therefore because you trample on the poor and you exact taxes of
grain from him, you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have
planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine. In these verses Amos condemns the
subjugation of the poor and the high taxes placed on food to keep them in poverty by the rich. He

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Computer Games
For budding video game players, choosing your platform for gaming is not only a bit of a
challenge financially, but also depending on your level of experience and interest in
convenience. When you take into account these three factors, and maybe a few more, it will
very much decide what kind of gamer you would like to be, or, what is best for you at the time.
For some people money may not be an issue and deciding can be relatively easy as both is an
option. However, for many of us, we have to take more time to decide. When first figuring out
what direction is the best one, the initial thing many consider before deciding between buying a
console or a PC for gaming is cost. A current generation console can cost anywhere in the range
from two hundred up to around six hundred dollars. Without advertising specific any specific
brands, for some a smart phone is all you need to play simple games. However, smart phone
games are usually very casual and filled with advertisement spam. Handheld portable consoles
have superior games to smart phones, yet can still be quite casual when compared to full scale
console home systems. Unfortunately, the competition when it comes to consoles is very strong
and you find a lot of video games become exclusive to those systems. This can be very frustrating
when a very good game comes out on the console you don t own. On a consumer level, the savings
alone more than justify the potential extra outlay or occasional graphics card upgrade. For the

Prophets from the Old Testament
Essay 4: Prophets
The Old Testament is finished up with several different lessons that can be learned from the prophet
s teachings. There were twelve different prophets in the Old Testament, who were also known as
the Minor Prophets. The Jews were anxious to know who God was, and the Old Testament prophets
offered understanding to many disputes. Idolatry, social injustice and religious ritualism are three
topics that are highlighted in the prophet s teachings and impressed upon the hearts of believers
today.
Idolatry was one of the big issues among the Jews. God addressed this problem very early on in the
Bible in Exodus 20:3 6 when He said, Thou shalt have no other gods before me. The prophets
took this issue very seriously. Hosea was one of the Twelve Prophets, and his life correlates with
the issue the Israelites were facing with idolatry. The name Hosea means salvation , or He saves
. Hosea family life was rather unordinary. In Hosea 1:2 God spoke to Hosea and said, Go, marry a
promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of
unfaithfulness to the Lord. Hosea s family life mirrored the adulterous relationship, which Israel
had built on idols. The relationship that Hosea had with his wife, Gomer, parallels to the
relationship that Israel had with God. Even though Gomer ran away from Hosea and slept with
other men, Hosea still loved her and forgave her. The same is true with Israel and God. Even

Male Gaze In The Male Gaze
The Male Gaze is a phrase coined by Laura Mulvey, in which she examines how through media,
the portrayal of women has evolved and is seen through the eyes of the male perspective. After the
1960 s sexual revolution, films started to incorporate women as a more objectified aspect,
demonstrated by the visual representation of how they provocatively use their bodies.
In this essay we will be specifically examining the male gaze in the 1999 s cult classic, Fight Club
from both the protagonist and antagonist view and how we as the audience view ourselves,
dissected from the way the characters view themselves.
Fight Club is based on a book by Chuck Palahniuk, centred around a heavily depressed man

and suddenly I felt nothing, I couldn t cry and so I couldn t sleep (Fight Club 2006, p. 7)
Similarly to the Mirror Stage , theorised by Lacan, he has identified his own trait in the opposite

Significant Role In The Play Antigone
Play: Antigone
Question: Which minor character had the most significant role in the play Antigone? Jean Anouilh
s play Antigone is a tragedy inspired by Greek mythology and the play of the same
name(Antigone, by Sophocles) from the fifth century B.C. The play Antigone tells the story of a
brave girl (one of Oedipus s daughters) who stands up against the law in order to honor her brother.
The play had many important characters without which the meaning would be incomplete.
However ,there were many minor characters that completed the play and aided the reader s
understanding which leads us to the question of Which minor character had the most significant

The Problem Of Unnecessary Blindness
There are specifically some important macro scale problems that should be addressed initially in
order to help Aravind move towards fulfilling the organizational goals. Specifically these issues
are looking at how the organization s operations will be expanded in the future including how
the organization needs to plan to grow so it can reach a broader number of the blind population,
and also if the organization is truly eradicating needless blindness in India as well as providing
the highest quality service it can to both its paying and non paying customers. It is clear that in
order to solve the problem of needless blindness in India the organization must make some move in
order to reach a wider population. There are several options that Aravind has when moving into the
future for how expansion will be facilitated. The first would be for it to continue with operations as
currently set up, but publicize its business model and encourage other organizations to copy it and
work alongside Aravind to eradicate needless blindness. While this is a viable and seemingly the
easiest option, this should not be the only approach that Aravind considers. Aravind has some
existing problems in its operations, management and marketing, and while it has achieved success
in the past, there are some significant existing components that will contribute to greater weakness
within Aravind s business model in the future. It is also uncertain if any other organizations will
actually choose to

  • 2. Homeschooling Is An Effective Education Mahatma Gandhi once said There is no school equal to a decent home and no teacher equal to a virtuous parent. Homeschooling has evolved into a popular and fast growing alternative to traditional schooling. In 2003, there was an estimated of 1.1 million homeschooled children, and in 2007 homeschooling had continued to grow to over 1.5 million. Opponents of the homeschooling method argue that parents are not as qualified to educate their children as teachers are; therefore, their children will not measure up to the academic level of traditionally schooled children. Additionally, they argue that homeschooled children will not be on the same social level as children in regular schools and will lack adequate social skills for the real... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, other studies say that parents who home school are spending too much time with their kids and are swaddling them. (Jeub) Homeschooling disproves all the arguments above. Jeub affirms that parents are not their child s main educator, but their child learns independently because of his desire to learn. No matter how qualified parents are, homeschooled children have proven to excel academically. Also, homeschooling allows children to learn at their own pace. Every curriculum is designed for a specific child. Individualized learning allows all children s needs to be met. Homeschooling gives freedom to learn at their own level unlike public schools, where every child must learn a set curriculum in order to keep up with the class. In response to the argument that homeschooled children spend too much time with their parents, they actually have positive relationships with their parents and other adults in the community. Instead of looking at adults as disciplinarians, many view adults as their mentors as their jobs, other home school parents, or family friends. Lisa Revero adds that homeschooling provides an environment for the family to learn and live together harmoniously and frequently unlike a traditionally schooled family where spending family time is often rare. Life revolves around jobs, endless carpools, sports games, and play practice, leaving little time for the family to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Lyrics Perpetuates Male Dominance Against Female Qinami Koshimizu SO11(C) Assignment #3 11/12/2012 How Lyrics Perpetuates Male Dominance Against Female Many of us have heard the famous single Love The Way You Lie which aroused a lot of controversy when it was released two years ago. Performed by famous American rapper Eminem and singer Rihanna. The song attempts to portray domestic violence and abusive relationship. The position of male and female in a relationship and their social interaction are always the hot topic of contemporary music. In this paper I would like to discuss how this song perpetuates male dominance against female through four aspects in gender role socialization, including emotion, action, sex and social interaction. Also I would argue about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being expected of different social roles and offered different responsibilities, males had to be dominance at most time. Such phenomenon could be found more commonly in Asian culture as well. In some Asian countries it would be a huge shame for males if they could not make enough money to raise the entire family and fulfill the wives expenses. Females choose to live as housewives and rely on the males thus empower the males to be dominance. In conclusion, the song exhibits the males dominance against females from four perspectives: emotion, action, sex and social interaction. Also the song portrays that in some situations females choose to be dominated by males thus empower males to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Changes In Macbeth The play Macbeth opens to reveal the chaotic world of good and evil. the main character of Macbeth is a loyal soldier whose only motivation is his allegiance to his king and country. At the play s beginning Macbeth is an effective general, brave soldier and Thane of Glamis. Macbeth s choices as the play progresses cause a definite change in his character which becomes secretive and vengeful, his motivation shifts from serving his king to helping himself to more power. Macbeths pride and this hunger for more power causes him to lose everything he values his friendship with Banquo, his marriage and with his most violent deed he loses his sanity and eventually his life. When Macbeth meets the witches for the second time they give him three prophecies that he demands for. The first of which is a prophecy about Macduff. Macbeth! Macbeth!Macbeth! Beware Macduff; beware the thane of Fife. (4.1 76 79). Later an apparition tells Macbeth to be bloody and resolut, to fear no one for none of woman born shall harm him. To which Macbeth responds with then live Macduff: what need i fear thee? But yet i ll make assurance double sure. And take a bond of fate: thou shalt not live (4.1.90 92) later on in the same scene Lenox approaches Macbeth and tells him that Macduff has fled to England, to this news Macbeth responds with the castle of Macduff i will surprise; seize upon Fife; give to the edge o sword his wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls that trace him in his line (4.1.166 169). Now the audience knows that Macduff is not at his castle but in England, the audience also knows that Macbeth has absolutely no reason at all to kill Macduff s family, this is how the audience knows that Macbeth has lost his sanity, his actions now are violent and make no sense. The only possible outcome that comes from Macbeth killing Macduff s family is just adding fuel to the fire of Macduffs revenge. Why would Macbeth need to kill Macduff s children? The only reason he would feel the need to would be because he is still envious of those who have children and he does not. Macbeth s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Article about Roadside Memorials Essay For the past two decades, roads became more than a medium of transportation. They turned into places that hold symbolic meaning to certain families in the form of roadside memorials. Roadside memorials are stone markers that serve the purpose of honoring the lives of those killed in automobile accidents. They usually take the shape of a Christian cross, whereby the name of the deceased is carved in the cross s horizontal line. Normally surrounding the memorial are flowers and other gifts to illustrate grief. This stone is situated at the location of the person s death. Roadside memorials are put there by the family and relatives of the victim as a method of immortalizing their memory. It reassures them that although the person has died,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since most roadside memorials are shaped in the form of the Christian cross, they represent a religious symbol in a public space, and therefore violating the law. Even though some assert that roadside memorials are distracting, the reality is that they are too small to cause any trouble. Several articles and documents have provided evidence to support the memorial s insignificantly small size. For instance it is mentioned in the article Roadside Memorials that the typical memorial is between 1 and 3 feet high with a breadth of about 1ВЅ feet. The article also states that if you are between 50 to 100 yards away from the memorial, it would be challenging to see it (Collins and Rhine 238). Therefore, it is highly unlikely for most drivers to spot roadside memorials. However, restrictions should be added to ensure that the memorials remain in a size that is not big enough to cause trouble. Additionally, opponents to the idea of the memorials argue that they should be removed for distracting drivers, but do not make such an argument against billboards and other commercial signs. These signs are much larger than roadside memorials and are usually more colorful, meaning they are much more likely to grab the attention of drivers. Therefore, supporting the removal of roadside memorials, but not billboards would be applying a double standard judgment. If the opponents of the placement of roadside memorials do not argue that billboards are distracting, they should not have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Search Engine Optimization, Or Seo Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a technical marketing discipline, the purpose of which is to make a website relevant, reachable, and visible to users searching for keywords and topics. (Linkdex). With an average of 3 billion web queries each day, internet search is critical for a business to gain edge over its competition. SEO has become the standard for marketers as a way to be found in search to attract qualified traffic and leads. From a business perspective, SEO cannot be treated as a separate entity from a company s overall marketing plan. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ranking is how the search engine decides to deliver the most relevant results to searchers (Copyblogger). This is accomplished by algorithmic functions that rank search results based on the best guess of what someone was really looking for during their web query. One obvious coding technique that is used to optimize search ability is the strategic placement of identifying search engine keywords in the HTML title tag, meta description tag, and header tags. However, before a web developer can start optimizing his site for a certain keyword or phrase, he needs to understand what keywords are the best fit for his business. To do so, a web developer may use a keyword search tool such as Google AdWords, that provide targeted keywords that are relevant to a web developer s audience, are pulling in a good amount of search traffic, and are not too difficult to rank. After a web developer has researched and selected which keywords would best match his web page, he must then start incorporating those keywords into important parts of the webpage. HTML titles have always been and remain the most important HTML signal that search engines use to understand what a page is about. Unique, descriptive titles are the most successful in being searched. The meta description tag, one of the oldest supported HTML elements, allows you to suggest how you d like your pages to be described in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. An Invasive Point Of View Sophie Hamann BOT 1 Term Paper 11/7/14 An Invasive Point of View Day to day, we are faced with perpetual decisions based on practical criteria. They have become so engrained within our regular schedule that we may not even think about the consequences. The automatic movements that we go through each day usually don t require a major ethical decision. However, when they do, values, world views and personal interest are all considered. The decision making process is very often initiated with a world view, or with some sort of bias. The outcome is based on one s understanding of the facts, or even based on one s upbringing. Environmental ethics often come into play when considering invasive species. On a global scale, we live in a high array of technological advances in transportation. We are able to travel across vast distances that open pathways for ourselves and exotic plant hitch hikers. The more we travel, the more species we transport. The issue arises of whether or not this is a natural process in which nature should be able to take its course. When considering this, multiple perspectives are formed in the process. Some intend to take advantage of this resource, while others aim to eradicate the entire non native population. While many people understand that an invasive species has the potential of being harmful, they still intend to let nature run its course. Therefore, it is important to understand all perspectives that factor into the decision making process ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Presentation of Research Proposal Turn Taking Management for Multimodal Dialogue Systems Introduction Natural dialogue involves the management of many communicative resources in a complex activity. Participants in a conversation transmit information, agree and disagree between each other, monitor the communicative status of their messages, make decisions about non linguistic actions and, among other things, they deal with social conventions about who is to talk and when. Conversations are joint actions in which participants individually perform coordinated activities (Clark, 1996). It is quite illustrative the metaphor proposed by Clark about dialoguing as dancing waltz. Each individual action is coordinated in a choreographic way with the actions of the other person. How and when to talk is learned since childhood, it is known that face to face conversation is the matrix of language acquisition. It is common to listen parents telling to kids when is expected from them to talk (for instance, they motivate responses if a question, an order or a hello was expressed, they show when is expected to say thank you or you are welcome ). For the last twenty years, various efforts have sprung from the interest to develop annotation models that reflect the diverse ways in which participants behaviors contribute to conversation (Ahrenberg, et al., 1995; HCRC, Carletta, et al., 1996; DAMSL, Allen Core, 1997). These tagging schemes are based on dialogue act annotation. They differ from each other in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Women s Women Faced Gender Discrimination Prior to the 1970 s women faced gender discrimination in politics in regards to plausibility about political obligation that falls along the lines of gender. Various gender representation within a representative democracy were consistent of male supremacy. Women were denied full citizenship rights such as the right to vote. Women fought for their suffrage in order to gain the right to vote and be entitled social, civil, and moral rights for themselves. Despite the increasing presence of women in American Politics, genderstereotypes still existed. In 1972, Congress passed Title IX in order to end sex based discriminationin higher education. Although, the act never explicitly states athletics, the act did become recognized frequently in the case of athletics in higher education. In addition to athletics, Title IX extends to prohibiting gender bias in education and the workplace. Even though, there are gains in gender equality with the passage of Title IX, stereotypical bias infiltrate prejudices that frame the full potential of Title IX. Despite the fact that the major emphasis and repercussion of Title IX focused on the areas of intercollegiate athletics, the original document did not mention athletics. • 10. Xaverian Values Analysis The Xaverian values are an integral piece of the mission of Good Counsel and, ideally, of its students as well. These values are: humility, simplicity, compassion, zeal, and trust. Throughout my service, some which was completed to fulfill the school requirement and some which was not, and any leadership opportunities I participated in, I was, at the time unknowingly, striving to fulfill these values. To truly serve, or to truly lead, the understanding and application of these values is crucial. A specific instance of leadership and service in which my demonstration of these values is evident was my volunteer work with Easter Seals. I was a respite volunteer with Easter Seals. This meant that I worked one on one with disabled children from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I demonstrated this value while volunteering with Easter Seals by freeing the lives of the parents of children who participated in the respite trips from a good deal of complexity. Through volunteering with this organization, as a whole, we were able to alleviate complexity and simplify, if only for a while, the lives of these parents so that they were able to accomplish other things or take a much needed break. This opportunity to participate as a volunteer on respite trips led to think about and later attempt to display the Xaverian value of humility. Being a part of an organization like this one prompted me to consider that I had a part in it, but that I was by no means the most important part. Realizing this led to the demonstration of this value by taking care to fulfill my responsibilities to the best of my abilities while also keeping in mind that I was making a difference but I was not the deciding factor and that that was okay. Compassion is a Xaverian value that I found fairly easy to demonstrate in the context of Easter Seals. One of the reasons I decided to volunteer with this organization was the fact that it helped people that I had a huge amount of sympathy for and that I wanted to help. I was able to help make the lives of the families who participated in the respite trips better and easier, for the kids on the trips by giving them the chance to experience things they might not otherwise have had the chance to and for the parents by allowing them the time to accomplish other things or some much needed time to recharge. This service also presented me with the opportunity to display the Xaverian value of zeal. Easter Seals serves a cause that I believe in and volunteering with them allows me to also serve this cause and to do so with fervor. This fervor is what motivated me to continue to volunteer there and to make sure that every time I did, my responsibilities were fulfilled to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Pros And Cons Of The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Hajdik 1 Concept, Controversy, and Commemoration: The Vietnam Veterans Memorial No war in American history not fought on American soil can claim to have as big an impact on America as a whole than the Vietnam War. The social and political divisions caused by the war changed America as a nation and especially changed those who fought in it. Despite the sacrifices of these veterans, both those who returned and those who did not, Americans on both sides forgot or even vilified those who fought, either as losers or as tokens of an unjust war. To remedy this problem through reconciliation and honor those who died in Vietnam, a group of veterans campaigned to build a national memorial in Washington, D.C. From its original design to the present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A representative for the Pentagon, whom the veterans thought would offer strong support for the memorial, essentially said, Why should we build a memorial to losers? (Scruggs 30). Some politicians and others agreed, calling the veterans crybabies who should receive less from the government (Scruggs 31). Many Americans, however, especially veterans and those who had lost loved ones in the war, strongly supported the memorial. Tens of thousands of letters thanking the Fund and offering support accompanied widely varying donations to the memorial, such as one that said, The whole town turned out for the funeral for he was the only boy who died there from this small town but there it ended. Recent revelations of pervasive sexual assault in Hollywood illustrate that if actresses speak out about these incidents, change may result in women being treated with dignity. Pervasive sexual assault in Hollywood is no secret. The casting couch has been used to either make or break actresses careers since the 1920s. This unspoken taboo has been a part of the stucture of what dreams are made of. Long before Weinstein there was Louis B. Mayer, who co founded Metro Goldwyn Mayerstudios in 1924. Mayer, the ground zero of this kind of abuse, had means, motive, opportunity and that critical piece of the puzzle: the whip. There on Election Day, they have the right of making their voices heard; however, many interest groups and a few individuals seem to have a louder voice due to campaign financing: No U.S. official should be beholden to one or a few groups. And no group or individual should have a greater claim on our elected leaders than any other. That s the way it should work. But it is growing clear to more and more Americans that it doesn t (McCarthy 24). Recently, it has been the trend to try to make sure the opinions and concerns of minorities are duly noted and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Money is the most degrading, corrupting force in American politics today (McCarthy xi). The idea behind fundraising for elections was a success at first, giving donors another way to voice their opinions and open up the doors for communication once the elected officials fully realized who they owed their position to. However, this went too far. Those whose candidate did not win were left with an official who will accept the ideas of a past donor before any others. This favoritism, while beneficial to certain donors, proves damaging to others. Also, when before, all donated and spoke their mind, now only certain groups and people donate and not even all of them speak their mind. The individual doesn t count anymore (McCarthy 25). Ken Bentsen represents the 25TH District of Texas. He is a democrat and has served as representative since 1991. I actually have a few theories regarding the reasons he voted the way he did and why certain groups financially supported his campaign. Scholars for thousands of years have pondered the question of whether it was the chicken or the egg, which came first. In the case of campaigning and finance, such seems to be the question. When there is a supplier constraint then it has a long lead time, unreliable, and/or substandard quality. This is what is happening at the manufacturing plant because of how overdue the products are by the time they are finished. Estimating home ranges and understanding habitat use and the temporal distribution of that use is essential for understanding and conserving wildlife populations. As a concept, home range can be defined as the area traversed by an individual in its normal activities of foraging, mating and caring for young (Burt, 1943). In this way, a home range can be thought of as a spatial depiction of behaviors fundamental to a species evolution and persistence. While its ecological significance is clear, the anthropocentric importance of a species home range derives from its role in mediating human wildlife interactions and wildlife management. The size and amount of overlap among individuals home ranges as well as the timing of habitat use within a home range will affect the probability and nature of human wildlife encounters. In most jurisdictions, habitat management is a fundamental component of wildlife management programs(E. J. Bergman, Bishop, Freddy, White, Doherty, 2014; K. This holds true for American black bears (Ursus americanus) which are classified as a game species in 28 of the 41 states in which they are present (Hristienko McDonald, 2007). These social norms are important so that people can act a certain way in society. Doing a norm violation project for this class has been a fun project. Norms are expectations of a behavior that are considered to be the right way to act. What is considered right behavior? Some things I do in my life can be considered a normor a norm violation. Norm violations are stepping away from what our society considers to be a norm. There are a few different types of norms. Norms that are not enforced are called folkways. Folkways can be considered people who are half naked in a gay parade. Norms that are strictly enforced because they are a core value of a group are mores. Mores are when a woman would be exposing her breast in the gay parade. On February 17, 2016 I decided to commit my norm violation. The company is responsible for the northern Alaskan oil fields and had no indication there was a leak until it was too late. Between 200,000 and 270,000 gallons of crude oil leaked out of the hole in the pipeline over a five day period, and became the second worst oil spill in the United States. The worst oil spill was a result of the Exxon Valdez tanker hitting a barrier reef in Alaska s Prince William Sound in 1989. More than 11 million gallons of crude oil was accidentally released into the water, and the region is still impacted environmentally from the spill. The leaking pipeline disaster will have very similar severe environmental impacts on the region and will definitely taint the company s image of safety and environmentally friendly operations for many years to come. With the increase in oil exploration in the region, the quality of oil has significantly declined. The lower quality oil flowing through the pipeline causes stress on the pipes leading to corrosion and deterioration. For some people money may not be an issue and deciding can be relatively easy as both is an option. However, for many of us, we have to take more time to decide. • 51. Prophets from the Old Testament Essay 4: Prophets The Old Testament is finished up with several different lessons that can be learned from the prophet s teachings. There were twelve different prophets in the Old Testament, who were also known as the Minor Prophets. The Jews were anxious to know who God was, and the Old Testament prophets offered understanding to many disputes. Idolatry, social injustice and religious ritualism are three topics that are highlighted in the prophet s teachings and impressed upon the hearts of believers today. Idolatry was one of the big issues among the Jews. God addressed this problem very early on in the Bible in Exodus 20:3 6 when He said, Thou shalt have no other gods before me. The prophets took this issue very seriously. Hosea was one of the Twelve Prophets, and his life correlates with the issue the Israelites were facing with idolatry. The name Hosea means salvation , or He saves . Hosea family life was rather unordinary. In Hosea 1:2 God spoke to Hosea and said, Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord. Hosea s family life mirrored the adulterous relationship, which Israel had built on idols. The relationship that Hosea had with his wife, Gomer, parallels to the relationship that Israel had with God.
