Reading models are vital to twenty first centaury classrooms, as they become an
important tool for teachers, that are teaching their students reading as well as
writing(Goodman,1997).Reading ultimately becomes an interaction between what a
reader has learnt, and the information that is already in the text. This essay will be
touching on the top down approach to reading, and how this is a vital tool to twenty
first century classrooms. All the while showing how this is used in classroom
practice. NCTE shows that as society and technology change ,so does literacy. So
therefore the twenty first century demands that students poses a wide range of

passages of text. The student then is able to begin to use clues to help them

John Madden and his daughter, Cynthia Madden Leitner founded the Museum of
Outdoor Arts (MOA) in 1981. When the museum first opened, there were nineteen
art acquisitions on display, all public outdoor sculptures, establishing the mission
statement of making art a part of everyday life. The first building the MOA offices
resided in was Orchard Falls in Greenwood Village; since then, the museum moved
four or five times within the Arapahoe county. Currently, the Museum of Outdoor
Arts occupies a space in the Englewood Civic Center on the second floor across
from the courts. In 2000, MOA moved from Greenwood Village to Englewood,
incorporating indoor galleries, offices, and a workshop studio into the new location.

from the same country because of their culture, and the fact that many speak
Spanish. However, this is not the case, and when looking at the unique features

This is one such story. This book is based on a real man and his struggles in life
from his perspective. He seems ordinary at first. As the story unfolds there are

Throughout the years, the acceptance of homosexuality has been a widely debated
topic between common citizens and with America s laws. Should society welcome
or outcast them? This was the question on everyone s mind, to which most people
before the late 1960 s would favor the latter. In fact, during the mid 1960 s, it was
against the law to provide service to someone of gayorientation (Clendinen 22).
People of homosexual orientation would not allow others to restrict their rights
because of religious belief or hierarchy ideals. To disrupt the somewhat successful
oppression that the law was assisting in, they would fight back when police came to
raid a bar in search of illegal activity. This often caused the media to get involved and
report their findings, assisting in spreading the word of gay persecution.
Few people were willing to stand up for homosexuals as they were presumed to be
flawed, sinners, outcasts and even categorized as mentally ill. This was due to the
fact that, unlike different ethnicities with defining skin colors, gays had no markings
to identify them as a group (Clendinnen 22). However, homosexuals were almost all
a part of a discourse community and shared many ideas about equal rights for
everyone. Since they were confronted with declarations that they posed a threat to
America, the activists needed to reassure the media of their dedication to the country.

There are many aspects of the Chinese American culture that other ethnic groups do
not understand. Social hierarchy, an overarching aspect of the Chinese American
community, is a paradigm that shapes Chinese American culture. This social
hierarchy often affect personal decisions that may prompt a Chinese national to want
to immigrate to the United States. Once here, many of these now Chinese Americans
are forced to transact with the larger American population while negotiating their spot
in their expatriate hierarchy. As a Chinese family immigrates into the US, they are
faced with many decisions in regards to their acculturation and eventual assimilation.

dilemma of what customs they want to retain and what cultural nuances they want to
