Oroonoko Slaughter of the Human Spirit
Aphra Behn introduces her characters in Oroonoko as beautiful people who possess
a pure, innocent love. Behn does this in an effort to make her readers feel and
question. Her poetic description of their emotions magnify the horror of the final
scene. Behn s romantic love story is brought to a tragic end through brutality and
death. Why did she choose such an ending? Her decision to have Oroonoko take the
life of his wife and unborn child leaves her audience questioning. Was what they had
love? If not, what was it? What had killed their innocence?
The story of Oroonoko and Imoinda began with him approaching her and ended with
the cut of his knife. Oroonoko both began and ... Show more content on

The tiger dies without a fight.
After he had conquered the beast, he takes his knife and cuts open her heart. Tis a
Notion commonly receiv d with us, That nothing can receive a Wound in the Heart
and Live; but when the Heart of this courageous Animal was taken out, there were
Seven Bullets of Lead in it, and the Wounds seem d up with great scars. (pg. 46)
Just as Oroonoko killed this beast, slavery had killed Oroonoko. The tiger stands as
a symbol of Oroonoko, a creature both fierce and fearful. Why is it that Oroonoko
had finally lost his power? Why was he now fearful?
Throughout the story, Oroonoko encounters many hardships. He loses his wife to
the King, is convinced that the King has killed Imoinda, and is sold into slavery.
However, through all this Oroonoko continues onward. He still has his hope and
control. He still feels as though he has some power. He can determine his own
future. He has a choice. Like the tiger, his heart had been struck with many bullets,
but he continued to live. However, this strong man was not without weakness. His
weakness was Imoinda. Her Griefs were so many Darts in the Great Heart of
Oroonoko. He knew that he was going to die after leading the slave revolt. He
couldn t stand the thought of leaving her behind. Imagining her alone with her new
born child helpless under the power of the master was the arrow that finally took
Oroonoko s life, the arrow that

Purpose This book authored by Nugent Walter, is about the history of the
progressive movement in America; it includes its origin, its fundamental principles,
influential progressive leaders and their impact, and finally the fall of
progressivism. The author s purpose for writing this book is to convince the reader
that the progressive movement actually achieved its purpose which was to address
the discontentment of the gilded age. Nugent Walter is a former President of the
Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era; he is also a professor of

The author narrates that during this period the American way of life was mostly
communal in an Agrarian society. However, with the emergence of industrialization,
society shifted to the urban areas, the railway corporations and other large
corporations began to monopolize businesses causing a great divide between the rich
and the poor. The American people s discontentment propelled the government to
pass laws to curb monopolization; however, these laws could not stop the big
corporations, as they were largely ineffective. The result was a demand for reform,
which caused widespread crisis of the early twentieth

Sherlock Holmes s The Speckled Band
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote many fictional detective stories. His first story A
Study in Scarlett was published in 1887. Since then he has written many more. The
famous detective in all his stories is Sherlock Holmes who also has an associate
called Dr Watson. Sherlock Holmes became a household name usually pictured with
a hat and magnifying glass. The Speckled Band was one of his stories which was
published in 1892 and is still being enjoyed by many more than 100 years later.
In The Speckled Band there are two victims, one already dead, the other, Miss Helen

As a murderer he seemed to be a well thought out person as he had obviously planned
the murder beforehand. He was quite selfish seeing that the motive for his crime was
money.
The setting of this story was in an old house. This was a typical place to expect a
murder as the house appeared to be old and creepy. The setting of this murder was
very effective as it made the atmosphere feel very evil and helped build up suspense.
Sherlock Holmes the detective in this story was a very good detective. He
resolved the murder quite efficiently, that shows he was an intelligent and hard
working person. He observed little details and drew conclusions from them. The
types of things he observed were: bruises on Helen Stoners arm, the bell pull, the
safe and the ventilator. I think it was good that Holmes actually picked up on these
details because some detectives wouldn t notice how important these clues were.
The story had a red herring, which made people believe it was the band of gypsies,
but Holmes did not fall for this, as he was very clever.
I found this story very exciting but most of all I like the part when Sherlock
Holmes and Dr Watson are sitting in the bedroom waiting. This atmosphere is
created totally by suspense and has a creepy feeling to it. The suspense keeps you
waiting because the reader wants to know what s going to happen next. The instant

6. Summary Of The Virgin Of The Immaculate Conception
If you were to visit the Dallas Museum of Art, you would find a truly remarkable
painting created by an unknown artist entitled, The Virgin of the Immaculate
Conception. This particular painting is located in the American Art Spanish Colonial
level in the Dallas Museum of Art and is part of The Cleofas and Celia de la Garza
Collection.
In this particular painting, references from Catholic theology are used throughout the
entire painting. The painting is a vision of one of Christ s first disciples, St. John, an
apostle of Jesus Christ. The painting revolves around the Virgin Mary, a woman free
of sin who is centered in the middle of the canvas. She was the mother of Jesus
Christ and was described as a woman who assumed body and soul into heavenly glory
(HГјtter 402). She is covered in a white robe with a black cloak enfolding her into an
envelope in the center of the canvas. At the top of painting, you can see God
symbolically giving Mary to the world as expressed in Catholic theology. Mary was
viewed as a notable figure of Roman Catholicism and was conceived free of original
sin, the condition of sinfulness and separation from God into which all humanity is
born .
In Catholic theology, it is noted that all holy souls are, as spouses of Christ,
crowned in heaven (Almeida 6). If you look very closely around Mary s head, you
can see that she is wearing a crown with twelve stars surrounding her head. It is
known that Mary is viewed as a woman who is clothed with the

provide sufficient evidence for arriving at an understanding that proves the LORD
is the only need in a person s life due to his role as shepherd. In verse 1, David
introduces the reader to the LORD of his life. In verse 2, David mentioned the
relaxation the shepherd permits the sheep to enjoy. In verse 3, David proceeds
from verse 2 to benefit from a place to rest while getting direction from the Lord. In
verse 4, David articulated his approach to protection by the shepherd. Verse 5 speaks
of David receiving food and sustenance from the LORD.

Mrs. Bartle employs a little bit of four of each of the methods shared in (the vocal
pedagogy) class. She uses a lot of the Westminister method but borrows from the
others. The others she borrows from are Christiansen, Fred Warning and Wilson

director. The first subject she dealswith is the director s attitude. A director should
have a positive attitude. (p. 3, Bartle)
In chapter two she discusses the development of a child s voice in a mechanistic

discussed in the following pages of this book. She describes each step and how to do

She tells how to recruit for a school primary choir, grades 1 3. In September she has

In the past equality was a big issue. Man and Woman did not have the same rights.
Women sick in ambitions. The story The Story of an Hour deals about a wife who
lost her husband and is destroyed by it. All the love she has for him disappeared
and first she has to find a way to handle it. After she stops crying, she finally pushes
herself up, looks out the window to see the clear blue sky, which helps her to realize
that she is not under her husbands control anymore. Finally, she was released. Also in
Trifles the wifehad to handle the situation that her husband dies but in this case the
wife most likely killed her husband because she could not stand anymore the fact
that he treated her as a slave. Both women have to accept a big loss in their lives
but they also feel a sense of freedom and relief that they are not anymore under a
man s control. Both stories deal with women who struggle under their rules of their
husbands but at the end they find a way to escape and finally start to live their own
life. The stories are taken place in the early 1900s and act about the old traditional
genderroles which played an important role in the society. Women had to fight for
their freedom and against their husbands.

10. The 1918 Influenza Epidemic Essay
What would later become one of the deadliest plagues the world had ever seen
started innocuously enough in the spring of 1918 spreading through populations on
both sides of the Atlantic. Remarkable for its highly infectious nature, the spring
strain was relatively non lethal, rarely killing infected individuals (Kolata, 1999).
Thus little more than average attention was paid to the precursor of a virus that
would eventually kill between twenty one and one hundred million individuals
worldwide (Barry, 2004). Only after the fall wave of the 1918 influenzadid it become
a requirement to report cases of influenza thus information on this first wave is

10). Although it produced an intense fever and headache the worse of the
symptoms often subsided within three to four days. The second wave was not
nearly as kind. Upon visiting Camp Devins, William Welch, founder of Johns
Hopkins Medical School was greeted by a grisly sight, Blood was
everywhere...pouring out of some men s nostrils and even ears while others
coughed it up. Many of the soldiers, boys in their teens, men in their twenties
healthy, normally ruddy men were turning blue (Barry, 2004, p. 189). Something
had happened to take the ordinary, relatively benevolent seasonal flu and turn it into
a killer. Of all the present theories to account for this remarkable transformation the
most credible is that of viral adaptation (Barry, 2004). This theory states that when
moving between species a virus is briefly less efficient in its new host species than
the old due to differences in internal biochemistry. This makes the virus less virulent.
Thus those most affected by the weakened virus will be those with weakened
immune systems. As the virus adapts to its new host species it becomes steadily
more deadly until it reaches an upper limit where it is killing off its hosts too rapidly
so that the most virulent strains cannot spread.
The Spanish flu was unusual in a number of respects but one of the most notable was

IV. ANALYSIS OF THE ENVIRONMENT
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY
Emerson Electric is in the electrical manufacturer industry. Companies in this industry
manufacture electrical equipment, appliances, and electrical components. The major
products includes household appliances, communication and energy wire and cable,
batteries, lighting equipment, industrial controls, motors and generators, switchgear
and switchboard equipment, wiring devices, and transformers(Electrical Products

ECONOMIC TRENDS Advancements in technology strongly drive the demand
for electrical products. US corporate profits, an indicator of corporate demand for
electrical products, rose 3.7 percent in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the
same period in 2014 (Electrical Products Manufacturing). US personal income has
also risen, which increases demand for electrical products. As a result of the
personal income elevation, demand for electrical products rose 6.4% in May of

children the weakest member of our society. When Shulman calls them weak, I
believe he is referring to their mentality, that their minds are so fragile that it could
even begin to process something that isn t the social norm. I do not believe that he is

not the basis of his argument nor does he call upon religion as a support of his

14. Effective Communication And Communication Skills Essay
In any clinical setting, medical professionals work together as a team to collaborate,
delegate and consult. In order for this team effort to be effective, good
communication skills must exist between medical professionals. Many times,
messages can be altered and interpreted differently; if the conditions for transmission
barriers develop. External barriers and internal barriers, such as confusion and mental
status can hinder effective communication. Communication can be both verbal and
nonverbal, and it is important to understand that different cultures may communicate
differently from others; example Thailand, which depend entirely on nonverbal
communication (Tucker, 2016). In such places, miscommunication is likely to
happen if there are people of different cultures. In a clinical setting where caring for
patients is a top priority, communication is important. For a nurse, effective
communication is important in the nursing process. In this essay, the definition of
communication will be discussed, as well as communication techniques and uses in
evidence based practice.
Definition
The basic scope of communication, involves the sending and receiving of message/s.
According to Taylor (2011), when a message is exchanged between two or more
persons and information is exchanged, communication is happening. More simply
put, it is the sending and receiving (transmitting) of messages from person to person;
this is the process of communication. In therapeutic communication,

Fear can be both a curse and a blessing. It can save you from the dangerous things in
life. It can also keep you from pursuing what you aspire to do. In the short story
Three Skeleton Key , George G. Toudouze writes about his own personal
experience on Three Skeleton Key, an island off of the French Colony of Guiana.
Three Skeleton Key is not a normal island, however, but an island with a spooky
backstory. It is said that three convicts who were escaping from a nearby prison
crashed onto the rock and died. Their skeletons were supposedly dancing on the very
rocks that the author was standing on, which is truly frightening. Later, a boat was
found rocking in the waves, headed straight for him while holding a deadly cargo. In

Anticipation is not a raw form of fear, but rather something that leads to it. To
anticipate something is to be uncertain of the present situation itself. Unfortunately,
there is always fear in the unknown. It can be seen in Toudouze s expression as the
boat meaning his death was in the hands of nature. He wrote, The three of us grew
tense as the ship seemed about to crash on one of our numerous reefs, but she
suddenly lurched with some change of wind, the yards swung around, and the
derelict came clumsily about and sailed dead away from us. This tension that rose
from the lighthouse crew was none other than fear emanating from their bodies.
This fear in anticipation was also building suspense in both the readers and
characters as nature was delaying the inevitable crash of the ship. He wrote later on
in the story, And for the next four hours the vessel played around us... . Toudouze
describes this playing as almost sinister and evil. But that is not as evil as the most
impactful form of

Othello was written by Jacobean playwright William Shakespeare in 1603. It proved
a huge success when first performed in 1604, in front of a huge audience. The story
is one of Shakespeare s great tragedy themed plays. Othello is the black protagonist
and highly esteemed Venetian general. Iago is the ambitious but scheming villain of
the play. When Othellopromotes a man called Michael Cassio over Iago, he is furious
and launches a malicious campaign against Othello. Meanwhile, Othello has married
a white woman, Desdemona, without her father knowing. Through Iago s plotting,
Othello suspects that his wife is having an affair and after many murders and plots,
Othello smothers his wife. But he finds out the truth about Iago, and horrified at...

He will take advantage of Othello and is using him for his own means.
Shakespeare wrote this to foreshadow the future, creating tension, because the
audience know there is dishonesty and deception to follow. This is supported by
the quote: in following him, I follow but myself I am not who I am . It y shows
you that Iago does not wear his heart on his sleeve. The word master sounds
mocking, as if Iago is going to betray Othello so this creates tension. So the themes
of hate and appearance vs. reality are introduced through Iago s dialogue. Iago
expresses his hate for Othello He says: ...I do hate him as I do hell pains . The
simile hate explains how much Iago loathes Othello. He compared hatred to hell.
The modern audience aren t as affected by the reference to hell, but the Jacobean
audience would feel the true extent of Iago s hatred. The setting of act one also
contributes to the hatred felt in the play. It is dark and there is a sense of mystery,
creates a tense and dramatic atmosphere. Words such as: despise devil and hell
support this. The references to hell would have made the Jacobean audience weary.
Iago s evil soliloquy is full of hatred and revenge: Hell and night must bring this
monstrous birth to the worlds light . The dark, evil images create a strong reaction in
both audiences. ...to the worlds light indicates scheming will start, doubt will surface.

17. Achievements Of The Israelite Civilization
The Israelite civilization dates back to between 1300 and 1200 BCE when they
settled in Canaan from Mesopotamia. This was considered their homeland. The
Israelites developed from the Cannanites, since their civilizations began together
along with the Jebusites. They faced a lot of struggles, but after migrating to Egypt,
and being separated into two kingdoms, they kept the faith that they would someday
return to their homeland. The greatest achievements of the Israeliteswas their
architecture, monotheistic religion, Ten Commandments, and their military.
However, they were not enough to save the civilization. They fell due to the decline
in leadership within the civilization, and attacks and conquest from the Assyrians and
Babylonians.
Overview
Just like any other civilization, the Israelites had multiple social classes. At the
foundation of the civilization was the working class. This was made up of the
farmers and artisans who labored all day and produced the items that were often
traded throughout the kingdom. The next tier was the military and royal court.
Anyone that served in the military was well respected by people of all classes. The
royal court consisted of any government officials, scribes, and the king s royal
cupbearer. Scribes were the secretaries and typically involved in judicial and
financial affairs. The royal cupbearer was tasked with filling the king s goblet with
wine and serving it to him. Second to the top of the social classes were the priests.
Similar to Ancient Egypt with the gods, priests were believed to have direct
contact with the god the Israelites worshiped: Yahweh. Because of this connection,
priests were considered to be very sacred to the Israelites. At the top of the social
pyramid was the king. The king of the Israelites ruled over the kingdom, defended
it, but also rules on behalf of Yahweh, the Israelite god . The daily life of an
Israelite was hard to determine, as archaeologists can only base this on
archaeological surveys or excavations, since no one in this civilization wrote
anything down or kept records. These surveys told archaeologists other useful
information, such as, says Daily Life In Ancient Israel , including the arrangement
and size of tribal
18. Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Birthmark
Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Birth Mark , explains the relationship between
Aylmer, a scientist, and his wife Georgiana s birthmark. The story is told in third
person point of view. The story gives access to both Aylmer and Georgiana
thoughts. It allows readers to see that because Aylmer is a scientist and a
perfection, he feels that Georgiana would be perfect if the mark was to be removed
or on another woman besides her. Aylmer sees his wife s birthmark is a symbol of
imperfection. The mark is described to be a small deep crimson mark shaped like a
hand on her left cheek. As he sees the mark, he sees her becoming less beautiful.
Once the mark is removed, she would become perfect and beautiful. However,
Georgiana, Aylmer wife feels that the mark is a symbol of a charm because she was
told that the mark was placed on her cheek during her birth hour by a fairy.

Within the dream, it also forms the use of dramatic irony. An example of dramatic
irony that was present in the dream was when Aylmer was trying to cut out the mark.

19. Ludwig Van Beethoven s Influence On The Romantic
Movement
The music of Ludwig van Beethoven served as a pivot between the styles of the
classical and romantic periods. In his early career, Beethoven worked primarily in the
classical idiom. However, in his later work, Beethoven often pushed the classical
forms to their furthest extreme. According to Francis Claudon, Beethoven was not
truly a romantic composer because he never overstepped the boundaries of classical
art. At the same time, Claudon claims that Beethoven was a revolutionary whose
innovations paved the way toward the increased expressionism which was
characteristic of romantic music. It is commonly known that Beethoven s personality
had a strong influence on the composers of the romantic period. In this regard, it has

Mozart and Haydn are two other great musicians that come to mind when you talk
about Ludwig van Beethoven because they were his foundation. Due to his impressive
foundation, Beethoven was then enabled to reach new heights of power and
expressiveness through his own imprint. I did some research and stumbled across an
essay called, Beethoven s Influence on the Romantic Movement and it had some good
information about his influence on the Romantic period.
In the essay I read that Beethoven served as a pivot between the styles of the
classical and romantic period. Francis Claudon reported that Beethoven was a
revolutionary whose innovations paved the way toward the increased expressionism
which was characteristic of romantic music. It s almost like he was part of the cause
and not just an influence. It is commonly known that Beethoven s personality had a
strong influence on the composers of the romantic period was also written in the
essay. Just to know that his personality had such an influence is applaudable. One of
the major elements of romantic music such as the emphasis on the expression of

medicine by providing endless opportunities throughout my medical education. My
interest in this institution rests in its commitment of preparing its students for their
medical career through innovative medical education. On a more personal level, the

21. My Fitness Test Scores
Throughout physical education class, there were numerous factors that led to the
changes in my fitness test scores. Regarding exercise, I would consider myself to be
an active person throughout the year, which probably led to some improvement in
my results. In school, I participated in physical education class in my 9th and 10th
grade year, which allowed me to apply the principles of specificity and progression.
Physical educationallowed me to get more exercisethrough workouts and games,
which would definitely lead to an improvement in my fitness testing. With school
sports, I participated in cross country in the fall, basketball in the winter, and track
and field in the spring. These sports helped me improve my cardiovascular endurance,

However, I do not have a job or profession that allows me to exercise because I have
not applied for one. This could lead to a fitness testing score decrease. Additionally,
I do not have a membership at a fitness center because I like to run outside. This is
related to the steady state category because I already run outside of school for
cardiovascular endurance, but I do not work on muscular strength or endurance
since I do not go to a fitness center. Also, the fitness plan I created in my freshman
year was ineffective, as I did not do much of what I was supposed to do. Even
though I did run 300 miles in the summer, I did not do a lot of weightlifting like my
fitness plan recommended. Overall, me not enacting my fitness plan probably led to a
regression in my fitness test scores. Regarding my personal aspect, I would say that I
was pretty neutral throughout my physical education class time. In sports and in
physical education class, I had the drive to get better and work hard, but I could have
been more supportive and encouraging of myself and others, causing me to have a
neutral attitude. This neutral attitude probably represents some back and forth
movement in my fitness
22. Bible And The Lord s Prayer
I got very annoyed and was very disturbed when Moore discussed the ordination of
women in the Catholic Church; as well as the discussion about changing the words
of the Bible and the Lord s Prayer. First, Moore discusses feminist liberal
movements changing the wording of the Bible: Proffered gender neutral language,
substituting brothers and sisters for brothers, interpreting the pronoun He as the
proper noun God, and using Our Parent instead of Our Father in the Lord s Prayer
(Moore 143). The Lord s Prayer was given to us by Christ in the Gospel of Matthew
and the Gospel of Luke. To turn around and decide you don t like the wording so
you re going to change it is very disturbing to me. The prevalence of the idea of
genderneutral

24. Essay on An Exploration of Vegetarianism
I.Thesis Definition
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the trend of vegetarianism and its steady
increase in popularity in the United States, the possible causes behind the existence of
this trend, its effects on our general society and the practicing population, and finally,
the future of vegetarianism. For the purpose of this paper vegetarianism is described
as a plant based diet (fruits, vegetables, etc), though the most important factor being
the total exclusion of meat, not including fish for most practitioners. While numerous
sub levels of this lifestyle exist, including veganism (abstaining from the use of all
animal products) and semi vegetarianism (a person cutting back on meat intake), this
study will focus mainly on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1992, as the medical evidence supporting this lifestyle skyrocketed, the American
Dietetic Association officially endorsed vegetarianism, thus solidifying a prominent
argument for the credibility of the vegetarian diet. From the 1990s to present day,
the amount of practitioners has markedly increased, and appears to be continually
growing at a steady rate. According to a 2008 study conducted by the Harris
Interactive Service Bureau on behalf of Vegetarian Times magazine, roughly 3.2
percent of U.S. adults, or 7.3 million people, follow a vegetarian based diet. In
addition, 22.8 million Americans maintain to follow a vegetarian inclined diet, while
11.9 million are definitely interested in becoming a vegetarian in the future (
Vegetarianism ). While no concrete evidence of a current rise yet exists, researchers
speculate that, because of new environmental and health concerns, more people are,
and will be, turning to vegetarianism to assist these issues (Rohrer).
III.Causes of Vegetarianism
Environment
Environmental vegetarianism centers on the ever increasing alarm that mass
production of meat and animal products, particularly through factory farming, is
environmentally unsustainable. As reported by a 2006 United Nations initiative, the
livestock industry is ...one of the largest contributors to environmental degradation
worldwide, and modern practices of raising animals for food

Philosophy of Teaching Essay Assignment
There are many students thinking about their future because they desire to be the
great teacher or professor in the future. It is necessary for each student to have trust
and confidence to be able to have success. Each professor has a special philosophy
of teaching based on his/her plan and teaching style. I have planned a teaching style
to teach students in both practice and theory. Health care depends on the clinical
practice and if you do not have this knowledge, you cannot work in the hospital and
clinics. However, some students do not choose to work in the hospital and wish to
focus on the theory and education. When I graduated from college, I never planned
to study at the master s level. However, after working four years in the hospital
setting, I decided to apply for a master s degree so that I could become a professor.
Some professors know and understand about students circumstances, because already
those professors were students. In this case, teachers can teach and give significant
information to their students. Students do not have the same abilities, and they
cannot achieve the same level of success.

Khadaija has peers who have a positive and pro social influence and peers who
have a negative, delinquent influence with whom he has been associating for about
five months. Khadaija currently spends 8 to 14 hours of free time per week with
negatively influencing peers. Khadaija is particularly susceptible to the influence
of her negative peers. There are indications that Khadija s admiration for her
delinquent peers is limited, but she usually follows their lead. Khadaija is helped
by the positive influence of people with whom she has good relationships.
Khadaija reported having a best friend who is supportive and a positive influence.
She has one positive adult relationship in the community and is generally involved
with her prosocial community organizations. Her friends and associates are close

Social inequality / pg 79: a social condition in which privileges and obligations are
given to some but denied to others.
A criminal is defined as a person who commits a crime. What happens when those
crimes are against humanity? How do we as Americans justify some of our laws,
when they are morally wrong? Our ancestors invaded, conquered, and eventually
industrialized lands. Settlers initial goals were to find better lives and opportunities.
A few centuries later, we are denying immigrants the same rights to seek out better
lives and opportunities. Border patrol stated at the beginning of of the film, If you
cross the river you are a criminal. In my opinion, it is criminal that we waste money
on the deporting system versus helping to civilize the southern countries. In The
Harvest, immigrants in the U.S faced the risks of making incomes like $64/week
and not getting paid. The film Wetbacks showed the perspective of the people
South of the U.S borders. Families in the Latin America s average up to $70
/month. Two dollars a day won t buy one person a day food, let alone a family.
Almost everything is done by hand; breaking rocks, transporting water from the
river, washing/drying clothes, and producing/catching little food. I feel we should
either open or extend our borders. Some of our border laws need to be revised or
eradicated. We hand money to people who use the welfare system as a career. Why
not employ immigrants for jobs Americans will never do? Immigrants
29. Cathedral Vs Gothic Architecture
Unique. Geometric. Creative. A sculpture of perfect unity. These words may describe
many buildings in the world, but they nearly define Gothic architecture. We pass by
buildings and churches on a daily basis, that never seem to catch our eyes. They seem
meaningless to us until we take the time to search through the architecture on that
building. Architecture provides a great deal of detail, beauty, and uniqueness to a
building. Especially, Gothic architecture, which is an extraordinary type of
architecture, that thrived from the 12th century to the 16th century, in the Middle
Ages. This architecture was not only created to provide beauty to the city, but to
show meaning, and inform the citizens about the religion of Christianity. Gothic
architecture features reflected the meaning and purpose of Christianity.
The architecture of this building reflects Biblical references seen in the Christian
religion. For instance, Romanesque Cathedrals were built in the shape of the cross
that Jesus Christ died on. As well, the altars located inside the cathedrals pointed east,
towards the city of Jerusalem, indicating that the world is waiting for the second
coming of Christ (Nero). Not only did the architecture of Romanesque cathedrals
reference to Christianity, but it also helped advance the knowledge of the religion.
Therefore, the innovations that led to the change from Romanesque to Gothic
architecture allowed cathedrals to expand upon the principles their building stile

Increase in resolution of image has been one driving factor in the development and
progress of the п¬Ѓelds related to the capture, processing and display of digital
images and video. Number of authors has carried out research on various
techniques on super resolution algorithms which are classified into two basic
categories: single frame super resolution and the more common multi frame super
resolution . Single frame super resolution is a very ill posed problem due to the lack
of any new additional information. Multi frame Super resolution on the other hand
presents more information in the form of Low Resolution (LR) frames that are
displaced from each other making it a more tractable problem. A related problem to
super Resolution (SR) techniques is image restoration, which is well established area
in image processing application. An other problem related to SR reconstruction is
image interpolation that has been used to increase the size of a single image.

World War I lasted from 1914 1918, but America did not become involved until
1917. After World War I, American society changed greatly. A new era, the Roaring
Twenties, found its way in America along with the arrival of the flappers (Roaring).
Americans were introduced to new fashion styles, the prohibition and the JazzAge
(Fashion, Jazz). Controversy proved to be very prominent with the Scopes Trial
(Scopes). As the war came to a close, the Roaring Twentiesmade its way into
America. This time period brought many changes that were new to Americans.

In 1919, people began preparing for the ban by buying large amounts of alcohol
before the ban started. Although there was a ban on alcohol, the Volstead Act
granted access to making wine as long as it was obtained from fruit, and legal use
of alcohol if there was a prescription (Prohibition, Rosenberg). People would gather
at speakeasies or illegal bars where gangsters would supply alcohol from the borders
of Mexico and Canada (Prohibition, Rosenberg). For fourteen years, alcohol was
illegal, but in 1933 the Amendment was finally repealed (Rosenberg, Ellis and Esler).
America was already going through a rough patch with the prohibition but it
seemed like things were getting worse. The Scopes Trial brought a lot of attention
to Dayton, Tennessee, where substitute biology teacher, John Scopes, was accused
of teaching evolution (Scopes). The Butler Act was a law prohibiting public school
teachers from denying the Biblical account of man s origin (Scopes). On May 5,
1925, John Scopes was found guilty of teaching evolution and was given a $1,000
fine. Later, the verdict was overturned (Scopes).
The Jazz Age spread quickly when jazz music was listened to in the speakeasies
during the prohibition (Prohibition). The Jazz Age was a post World War I
movement in the 1920 s, from which jazz music and dance emerged (Jazz). Jazz
music could be heard on potter palms. A potter palm is a popular type of radio show

organizational culture is a company s framework preserved by the employees that
outlines what they deem important, what they stand for, and an image that they want

mission statement and their company values. The culture is decided by the company
and influences how an employee behaves in the organization. Conversely,
organizational climate is deemed by the employees. Organizational climate describes
what it means to work for your company in particular. When it comes to

3.Based on the details case, how would you describe Walmart s culture? Walmart s
culture can be described as employee centered with an emphasis on economical
productivity. Essentially, Walmart relies on its many employees to further their
values and goals of providing the best service to their customers at the lowest
prices. 4.Describe the artifacts, values, and assumptions that helped you arrive at
your description of Walmart s culture. An artifact that drew me to the description
of economical productivity was the narrative about Sam Walton driving an old
pick up truck and having employees share hotel rooms on company trips. Walton
valued his employees and his products, but also he was the type of person who
believed in the adage, If it isn t broke, don t fix it . He valued effective change over
expensive waste. This lead to the assumption that both the employees and
customers were valuable to the success of the company. He was present and
engaged with employees of all levels and did not believe in living a lavish lifestyle;
he was not too good to shop at his own store. All of these facts lead me to describe
the culture as employee centered (when he asked the employees opinions at the
Saturday morning meetings and shift meetings) with an emphasis on economical
productivity (as in, not overpaying or overproducing to deliver the best to
customers). 5.Kay works for Walmart and has come to you for assistance in

It can be quite the experience being approved for a mortgage, especially if it is your

implications dawns.
Mortgage payments can exert a heavy burden on your expenses. Besides paying a
mortgage, you have other equally important things to do with your money. Life goes
on even after the mortgage. However, the thought of paying for a house month after
month, year after year, for thirty years, is close to living a never ending nightmare.

Having lunch is a necessity that you can t do without. But who said you must buy
lunch every day? What about bringing your own lunch from home? Let s assume that
you normally spend $100 a month on lunch. If you put this towards your mortgage
payment, you will end up saving yourself more than $25,000 in interest! Add to this
whatever you spend on Starbucks every month and you will see your interest
crumbling faster than cookies. There are so many non essential expenditure that you
can scrape or skim off to put your mortgage payments on the fast track.
3. Consider Refinancing Your Mortgage
No one wants to be tied down to a mortgage for 30 years! If the above stringent
measures are not your cup of coffee, you might want to consider refinancing your
mortgage for a shorter term, say 15 years instead of 30. Refinancing your home
allows you to get financing to pay off the initial loan and instead sign up for another

38. Summary Of Survival In Auschwitz By Primo Levi
Title One of the natural instincts of intelligent beings is in the case of fear to fight,
or to run away; however, in some cases like in the concentration camps in Germany
during World War II it is hard to do either of those two natural responses. This
issue, with not being able to enact on this natural instinct because of the restriction
of being closely controlled, is related to Primo Levi in his autobiography Survival
in Auschwitz he was a captured Italian Jew who was able to survive Auschwitz
because of how he internally thought with himself to stay alive. The Holocaust is
one of the most researched events during World War II; and Levi is one of the,
relatively, few who survived, and went on to be able to tell his story. In Survival in
Auschwitz Levi detailed the horrible conditions the soldiers lived and worked in as
well as the malnutrition he experienced. Levi also detailed his struggle to stay
human which, along with climbing up the social ranks, helped him survive; As a
result of these struggles Levi seems to believe there is at least a slight lesson to
learn from his survival. During World War II, if a person was labeled as a Jew,
whether they were actively practicing or not, and was captured then sent to a
concentration camp life was absolutely brutal. Unless you were in Ka Be, the
concentration camp version of an infirmary, there were hardly any sanitary places.
Even the bathroom which should be clean and at least have clean running water was
disgusting; as

40. Sexual Impacts And Influence Of The Mass Media
Mass media has become a vital source from which young millennials get their daily
substance of entertainment. The growth of media availability has intensified the
images and sounds appearing to the youth of this generation. With the massive
growth of media usage and music streaming amongst the youth, there has been more
sexual trends and influence of popular culture during this time. The presence of
sexual content in mediahas intensified and became more omnipresent within the past
decade. Mass mediaimages has been dominating public spaces with sexualised
representations and messages that are impossible to avoid (Buckingham, Willett,
Bragg, Russell, 2010; Burke, Gridley, Pham, 2008; Flood, 2009; Levin Kilbourne,
2008; Papadopoulos, 2010; Rush La. Nauze, 2006a, 2006b; Zurbriggen et al., 2007).
Especially with young girls relying on the media for constant trends, we often don t
consider what these messages and sounds are portraying. These advancements in
media have expanded enormously to the sexual content and musicappearing in media
and sites today. Previously conducted content analysis of selected media showed that
music contained at least 40% more sexual content than any other medium, with 15%
of music s sexual content focusing solely on intercourse or sexual content, compared
to a 3% and 4% focus within television and movies, respectively (Pardun, L Engle,
Brown, 2005).

presentation
abstract
To what extent psychopathology, individual s personality and individual s life
experiences are relevant to understand terrorism?
In the current national security environment, there is no doubt that terrorism is one
of the major scourges our society is exposed to. Government has been spending
massive resources and assigned to public and private sector to prevent terrorism.
However, these attempts lack sometimes of conceptual and empirical foundation and
the definition itself has divided several social scientists. The inadequacy of
knowledge regarding this matter builds important challenges on many levels, from
policy makers regarding how a country should react to terrorism, to individual
decisions about the personality of a person who seems to display dangerous ideology.
The purpose of this paper is to present, and critically analyze different psychological
approaches regarding terrorism. As all professional literature depicting human
behavior and social matters, psychological theories have advantages and limitations.
Through the study of six scientific and professional literatures, I will evaluate to what
extent psychopathology, individual s personality and individual s life experience are
relevant to understand terrorism.
Findings
In Arie W. Kruglanski and Shira Fishman article, two approaches are used to
understand the psychology of terrorism. They distinguish terrorism as a syndrome
and a tool . The

introduced into the South Australian Lower House in July 2013. The ACL s most
monumental lobbying triumph, however, commenced on the 22nd of October
2013, shortly after the territory s legislative assembly passed ACT Marriage
Equality laws which came into effect in Canberra on the 7th of December 2013. The
ACL actively lobbied against the new controversial laws again bringing to light the
disregard for the welfare of children and broader social and religious values. The

43. Persuasive Speech About Sports
As Kobe Bryant said; Sports are such a great teacher. I think of everything they
taught me: commodity, humility, and how to resolve differences . (Kobe Bryant).
Sports are all over the world and range from many activities such as hockey,
basketball, football, cricket, swimming, and bowling. I as a youth participated in
many different sports including volleyball, basketball, soccer, golf, tennis, and
gymnastics and with all of these sports I was able to grow my confidence,
determination, and leadership that I now carry with me through life. All children
benefit by being involved in a sportat some point in their life. Today I will discuss the
Health, social and psychological benefits and Educational benefits that come from
children participating in sports. Not every sport is for every childand not everyone is
amazing at sports, but all children should experience sports and find a sport they love.
With sports children can grow into healthy and athletic adults as well as successful
humans with high positivity in physical activity. Sports enhances the physical and
mental developments of children and aids their growth as they get older and become
adults
I. Children grow with the help of sports. Children s health, social, and psychological
benefits are adapted at higher rates with the participation of sports. Sports positively
affects aspects of children s development with themselves and their esteem, others
around them, the idea of working towards a goal and what it takes
44. William Drake s The Kingdom Of Danger
In the dispute between England and Catholic Spain they blamed each other for
whose fault it was. Through my research I have read both sides of the story and
have come to whose fault it really was. In the two sonnets, written by Shakespeare,
he talks about what love means to him and uses personification and imagery to get
across to the reader. Both sonnets share similar themes of love. In the The Kingdom
in Danger and Shakespeare s poems I will explicate all view points of the literary
elements.
According to Kerrily Sapet s book Elizabeth I of England, there were numerous
reasons Catholic Spain wanted to go to war with England. One was because for
many years the Queen s privateers had pestered Philip s ships, stealing their cargoes.
Queen Elizabeth supported Francis Drake s attempt to circumnavigate the globe
(Sapet 124). In Francis Drake s journey he came upon unguarded treasure along the
South American coast. Three years later he returns to England with two hundred tons
of Spain s gold and silver and upon his return is knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1581.
The Queen was in constant fear of being assassinated and how the long anticipated
confrontation of England s military and Catholic Spain. The Queen was aware that
there were many conspiracies and rebellions against her including her own cousin,
Queen Mary of Scot s who was beheaded for being a part of a plot to assassinate
Queen Elizabeth. In response to that she put Sir Francis Walsingham in charge of the
secret

In the unbridled win taken by the West Coast Eagles and their many fans over
Adelaide Crows at Domain Stadium has undoubtedly secured the Eagles a top 8
place, granting them one more chance to take home the premiership.
With high stakes for the West Coast Eaglesneeding to win the game by at least 4
goals, the crowd was in an uproar cheering on everyone with them and booing all
those against. This somewhat aggressive and versatile crowd with all their
encouragement during simple gameplay strategies, e.g. intercepting marks and
kicking clearances was in hope to lead to a social facilitation effect, whereas during

According to Muller and Abernethy, Expert anticipation is linked to the acquisition
of the essential kinematics of the action being viewed (Muller Abernethy, 2012). As
opposition plays begin to unfold, they rely heavily on two fundamental skills of
AFL known as decision making and ability to contest the ball. Here they worked
effectively as a team in order to take back possession and kick another goal (Ryan,
n.d.).
Before the game, the players knew the stakes. If they manage to pull through and
win this game it will be the first time they have made finals three times in a row in
the last ten years. With many of their players retiring at the end of this season, such
as, Sam Mitchell, Drew Petrie, and Matt Priddis, the threat of life after retirement
may take its toll with feelings of grief, loss of identity, loss of competence and loss
of friends which will affect their social, psychological and physical states in a
negative way (BRD201 lecture: Athlete welfare and well being, slide 22). This
game will be these players last chance to push for a premiership and leave their mark
as one of the greatest players in the AFL.
After their amazing victory against Adelaide, the players of the West Coast Eagles
make top 8. With this, they are granted one more chance to take home another
premiership and be praised their coaches, fans and support staff for another season
well done.
46. Trifles By Susan Glaspell Essay
The relation of the title of the play Trifles to the play is subtle but present.
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the word trifle means something of
little value, substance, or importance . Near the beginning of the play, Hale says
Well, women are used to worrying over trifles. (Glaspell 258). This is the only time
trifles is used in the play. However, the way the characters act and speak amongst
each other reveals the true meaning of the title. The men disrespect the women
multiple times in the story. The sheriff and court attorney make comments that are
obviously meant to be sexist toward the women such as Well, you can beat the
women! Held for murder and still worryin about her preserves and Ah, loyal to your
sex, I see. (Glaspell 258). The men treat the women as trifles and disregard them for a
majority of the play. After making all those comments about women, they chose to
investigate upstairs rather than the kitchen. That s where the... Show more content on

They are blinded by their sexism which prevents them from looking in the one
place where they could ve found a sufficient amount of evidence against Mrs.
Wright. As the women look around downstairs, they realize more and more things
about Mrs. Wright and begin to feel kind of bad for her. Mrs. Peters shows this by
saying Somehow we just don t see how it is with other folks until something comes
up. (Glaspell 263). What she means by this is that one never knows what s truly
happening in someone s life until that person needs to know or is allowed to know.
The women in the play end up finding a dead canary and hiding it from the men to
protect Mrs. Wright. They notice that the canary was killed by breaking its neck,
similar to the way Mr. Wright was killed. This presumably shows the main motive
behind Mr. Wright s death. He killed the one thing that made Mrs. Wright feel like
she had someone even when she was all alone. That is was leads them to hide
47. History of Cellphone
History of Cell Phones The history of mobile phones records the development of
interconnection between the public switched telephone systems to radio transceivers.
From the earliest days of transmitting speech by radio, connection of the radio
system to the telephone network had obvious benefits of eliminating the wires. Early
systems used bulky, high power consuming equipment and supported only a few
conversations at a time, with required manual set up of the interconnection. Today
cellular technology and microprocessor control systems allow automatic and
pervasive use of mobile phones for voice and data. The transmission of speech by
radio has a long and varied history going back to Reginald Fessenden s invention and

In 1969 Amtrak equipped commuter trains along the 225 mile New York
Washington route with special pay phones that allowed passengers to place
telephone calls while the train was moving. The system re used six frequencies in
the 450 MHZ band in nine sites, a precursor of the concept later applied in cellular
telephones. [2] In December 1971, AT T submitted a proposal for cellular service
to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). After years of hearings, the
FCC approved the proposal in 1982 forAdvanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS)
and allocated frequencies in the 824 894 MHz band.[6] Analog AMPS was
eventually superseded by Digital AMPS in 1990. A cellular telephone switching
plan was described by Fluhr and Nussbaum in 1973,[7] and a cellular telephone
data signaling system was described in 1977 by Hachenburg et al.[8] In 1979 a
U.S. Patent 4,152,647 was issued to Charles A. Gladden and Martin H. Parelman,
of Las Vegas for an emergency cellular system for rapid deployment in areas where
there was no cellular service. Emergence of commercial mobile phone service
Alongside the early developments outlined above, a different technology was also
growing in popularity. Two way mobile radios (known as mobile rigs) were used in
vehicles such as taxicabs, police cruisers, and ambulances, but were not mobile
phones, because they were not connected to the telephone network. The first fully
automated mobile phone system for vehicles was launched in Sweden in 1960. Named
48. Case Study Of The Snapple Beverage Company
Introduction The success the Snapple Beverage Company had achieved by the early
1990s drew the attention of the Quaker Oats Company which bought it in 1994 for
$1.7 billion, and planned on maximizing the professedly unequivocal synergies
between the funky iced tea brand and their established Gatorade brand. Despite
Quaker s efforts and ambition, which some might classify as hubris, the company s
decision to acquire Snapple is often regarded as a clamorous example of a merger
and acquisition disaster. This paper analyzes Quaker s failures using the 4 P s
framework, and proposes an action plan for Triarc s turn around of the Snapple
brand, tailoring it to a modern market setting.

They hoped that by employing this distribution rationale they could fuel synergy
within Quaker s Beverage Division. Despite Quaker s efforts distributors resisted
this hybrid, and the strategy resulted in being far from successful. Other key
marketing mix failures that affected Snapple in the Quaker era fall under the
promotion and product umbrellas. Quaker did not follow regular advertising
schedules, ceased Snapple s partnership with Wendy Kaufman, and beside reducing
the numbers of flavors available, was also unable to introduce new ones quickly
enough. The started selling the product in larger sizes (32 and 64 ounces bottle),
but this initiative was another flop: bottles of that size were suitable for Gatorade,
not for a leisure beverage like Snapple, customers simply would not buy it. These
choices elicited negative response in consumers who stopped perceiving Snapple as
a funky and fashionable brand; the beverage s healthy reputation was damaged too. It
is rather clear that Quaker s executives did not fully understand the Snapple brand
and erroneously modified its marketing mix. This failure resulted in the rise of a
deleterious discrepancy between the experiential value and benefits customers were
used to and expected form Snapple, and the brand s altered nature. In synthesis,
Quaker tried to transplant a marketing mix and execution strategy to a recipient who
was not suitable for it, and Snapple, its distributors, and its customers ultimately
suffered from

Damien Hirst was born in Bristol, England. British artist Damien Hirst has
shocked and surprised the art world with his unusual works, including glass
displays of dead animals and medicine cabinet sculptures. Some people say Damien
Hirst has learned a lot from Jeff Koons. Like Koons s basketball in the aquarium,
Hirst likes to suspend things in tanks, encase things, make them last forever. Hirst
is a great craftsman and a natural showman as Koons does. But Koons s works
almost always dazzles and flares for the first impression. There s an incredibly
intuitive and glamourous to his work even the works sometimes don t get approval.

He produces paintings, sculpture, and wallpapered environments that play off the
charms of Japanese traditional and popular arts with close to the contradictory.
Since as teenager, he had an early interest in manga and anime, so the artist began
to develop some of his most well known characters, which are still present in his
work currently. He has lent his idea from old and new creativities to blur the
boundaries between high and low art in Murakami s projects. Among his well
known curated exhibition, Superflat was developed and exhibited a signature two
dimensional style. This distinctive style employs highly refined traditional
Japanese painting techniques to depict a super charged mix of Pop and amine
content, displaying both cultural inspirations and aesthetic issues all within the
dimension of the narrative. He treasures the Superflat and makes it the name of a
2001 art exhibition which refers to various flattened forms in Japanese graphic art,
animation, pop and fine arts, as well as the shallow emptiness of Japanese
consumer society. Besides the successful Superflat, his studio has also produced
the oversized fiberglass figures that exhibit the fetishism of the cosplay culture
and the sexuality of manga images. For example, Hiropon, the pornographic

are spilling out of her bikini. This super sized fantasy figurine sold at an auction in
