The Parson s Tale
The Parson s tale, although short, sweet and simple has some very good and important
messages. The tale really feels more like a sermon given by a priest than a tale or story. The
parson talks about being a pilgrim and going from the current world to what seems to be the
afterlife or maybe even another world altogether and this world all guilt and grief seems to go
away. The parson then goes on to say that g d does not actually want anyone to die and there are
many paths for everyone to this afterlife or other universe, which the Parson refers to the Celestial
City. Some of the things someone can do to get this place are confession, patience, doing penance
and fasting just to name a few. Then the Parson lists the things one can not do if they desire to
reach the Celestial City. They are anger, accide, avarice, gluttony, lechery, envy and satisfaction .
These are the seven deadly sins and are probably the worst things that a religious christian could
think of doing. The tale (sermon) then ends after the Parson spells out the sins of everyone to hear.
Although this tale, which is really a sermon is not overly complicated it is important. The Parson s
tale, although short, is important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It being the first religious story, on a religious pilgrimage that I have read so far helps it
reinforce its important place is a dose of reality to the other pilgrims. Even though I am not
christian, I can still relate to the Parsons purpose of telling the story and the message that he
conveys in doing so as well as the importance of religious anecdotes such as this one. Although I
am still left with one question at the conclusion of reading the tales. That is, what is the order of
the tales? Was this much needed religious antidote given in the beginning, middle or end of the
journey? Regardless, it is still important the message will hopefully sit with the other pilgrims for a
very long time.

Last Night Sharon Olds Analysis
Last Night Versus Seniors What does love have to do with sex? Sex is always considered a taboo
and controversial topic, whereas most think they know something about love, and they re more
than willing to give others unwanted free advice. However, very few people talk about both in
depth together. Last Night by Sharon Olds and Seniors by Alberto Rios cover a variety of topics,
but most importantly they both cover loveand sex. More specifically, they cover both what the male
and female thoughts are about sex, what their expectations are during the act, and where love
comes into play. Both speakers are memorializing their past experiences, the experiences between
the two are exceedingly different. Both poems have very similar intentions,... Show more content on

Banks are not the only financial intermediary from which corporations can obtain financing. What
are the other intermediaries? How much financing do they supply, relative to banks, in the United
Kingdom, Germany, and Japan? The other financial intermediaries include insurance companies,
mutual funds and pension funds. In Japan, banks provide more financing than other financial
intermediaries do. In the U.K., other financial intermediaries provide substantially more financing.
In the U.S., banks are less important sources of financing compared to financial intermediaries.
While in Europe, financing provided by banks and financing provided by other financial
intermediaries are approximately equal. 3.Why is transparency important in a market based
financial system? Why is it less important in a bank based system? Transparency is essential in a
market based system, but is not necessarily a requirement for a bank based system. In a bank based
system, banks have long standing working relationships with the companies seeking financing, and
banks have on going access to information about the firm. In a market based system, creditors and
equity holders require that financial information about companies seeking financing be available,
sufficiently detailed and accurate if they are to participate in the market. This information, including
audited financial statements, allows participants in the market to make

Horror Of The Horror Movie
Weenie. That is the word that comes to mind when I think about myself watching horror films. I
am the girl that shields her eyes, jumps at the slightest jump scare, and cringes at the tiniest
amount of gore. But contrary to what this previous information might tell you about myself, I love
a good horror movie. I believe there is nothing that can bring a group of friends together like a good
ol scary filmon a crisp, Autumn night. A film that I discovered last Fall was The Babadook,
written and directed by Jennifer Kent. This film is a psychological horror, meaning it uses
different twists and tricks to scare you rather than using creepy creatures or gore. The main plot
of this movie is about a widowed mother, named Amelia who is still struggling with the effects
the death of her late husband has on her while she is raising their son, Samuel. The antagonist in
this film is the monster, The Babadook, who is the manifestation of the mother s depression.
This film has become a favorite of mine because it uses a monster to showcase how scary a very
common, real life problem is. Samuel and Amelia live alone in a small home in a quaint,
Australian town. Samuel has proven to be a problem child as he is always getting into some sort
of mischief at school or at home. He also is still afraid that monsters are living in his room even
though Amelia tries everything she can to help him cope with his fears but nothing seems to
help and the failure just adds fire to her internal storm she has. One night she tries to help calm
Samuel by allowing him to pick out a book to read as a bedtime story. Sam picks out the book
Mister Babadook. Obviously, this book tells the tale about the real life monster The Babadook
and it scared the child so bad he just laid in his mother s lap and screamed the entire night. This
screaming fit drove Amelia crazy and was sort of the straw that broke the camel s back to send her
into her depressive state. In the days after they read Mister Babadook, Samuel blamed his
mischievous behavior on The Babadook as it was beginning its haunting. Amelia believes Sam is
just up to his usual antics until she too starts feeling strange things occurring in their lives. After

Literary Analysis Of The Cask Of Amontillado
The story, The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, is a narration of revenge and murder
crafted and committed in the most of secretive ways, that the victim, Fortunato, did not recognize
the murder plan until at the very last point of last breath. The story, narrated by Montresor, gives an
account of an oppressed individual, who had patiently and submissively subjected to oppression,
until insults began, and he could no longer take any more. The narrator had been oppressed many
times by the victim against whom he seeks revenge. In the very opening of the narration, the
narrator claims to have been hurt by the victim numerous times when stating THE thousand injuries
of Fortunato I had borne as I best could (Poe, n.p.). However, while suffering quietly from all the
injuries he had received from Fortunato, Montresor had crafted a plan for revenge, which he
ensured the target victim would not detect. Indeed, Montresor continued to mask his evil plans
against the victim through acting nicely towards him and also maintaining a smile that only him
knew was informed by the thought of revenge (Poe, n.p.). Indeed, Montresor no doubt comes out as
very crafty, and the secretively crafted plan of revenge against Fortunato he made can be lauded as
being genius. Nevertheless, this discussion holds the argument that it is Fortunato s skepticism, as
opposed to Montresor s definitive and genius plan, that materializes the revenge.
The story, The Cask of Amontillado, is a

Theories Of Determinism
Intro
To my knowledge freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. Determinism states that every
event has a set of causes that determine their effects. However the things people do can be
labeled cause with a equal effect as well. Everyone has a set of choices that leads us to act.
However these choices may depend on a different set of circumstances. Deciding how we should
act and if thus action is by our free will. I like Aristotle believe that these actions be they voluntary
or involuntary are a reflection of our morals based on our feelings and actions.
Case One After a night of drinking Caleb refuses to be driven home. Because he is driving under
the influence. Hence causing for the car to run off of the bridge resulting in the death ... Show more

While under gun point he is told to commit unlawful acts or his brother will be shot for his
noncompliance. During one of these unlawful acts, with his brother s life in mind Jesse was
forced to run down a police officer, in result killing him. The act is Jesse running down the
police officer. Jean Paul Sartre expressed that as an individual we have both the freedom and
responsibility to choose to act or not to act. thus there are no accidents in life.. could always get
out of it by suicide or desertion; these ultimate possible are those which must always be present
for us when there is a question of envisaging a situation. (Sartre 660 661). What he does cover is
what if there is someone else life in danger. For example, a loved one. Aristotle believes that
sometimes our actions may also be involuntary. But if it is to save the life of himself and his mates,
any sensible person would do it. (Aristotle 647). Its these complications that allowed Jesse to
selflessly go against his nature and voluntarily and involuntarily commit these acts. It s a fine line to
say he freely committed the acts. When there were extenuating circumstances such as being held at
gunpoint that inhibited his freedom and the freedom of others. In my opinion from a moral stand
point, because Jesse made choices based on external complications morally he s responsible for the
death of the cop. but on a higher standpoint the robber is more morally responsible than

Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. Kafala System in...

Since the introduction of Kafala system, also known as sponsorship system, in the GCC (Gulf

rights violations have aroused. Kafala system is a sponsorship system designed to regulate and
employ migrant workers in countries compromising of GCC states (Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

However, as Qatar started its colossal preparation and constructions for FIFA World Cup 2022,
massive human rights violations were recorder by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International,
sparkling heavy criticism and condemnation throughout the world.
In this document I will identify human rights violations in GCC countries and Lebanon under the
Kafala system and try to explore how thousands of employers abuse millions of migrant workers.
I will also document the problems of exit visa in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, scarce living conditions
and health problems of migrant workers, violence against migrant domestic workers in Lebanon,
violation of freedom in Saudi Arabia, and violation of basic labor rights in Qatar during the
preparation of FIFA World Cup 2022. I will conclude the report by identifying the violations under
Intentional Law and giving recommendations to countries which use Kafala system.
Background
Historically, the Kafala system was never intended to be the main source of exploitation and
abuse of migrants. Khan and Harroff Tavel claim in their article that, The sponsorship system is a
time honored tradition of the Bedouin principle of hospitality, which sets obligations in the
treatment and protection of foreign guests (Khan Harrof Tavel, 2011, p. 294). However, over
some period of time, its purpose and practice has dramatically changed. The necessity of Kafala

emerging and competitive market, has caught increasingly more attention from almost all major

Herrick induces us to feel empathy rather than antagonism to the protagonist. This is
accomplished through the intimate use of language, changing perspectives and personal

they help each other. Billy s growth is demonstrated as he becomes a different individual from
the beginning of the narrative poem showing positive thinking sure there s hope in the
world...even for hobos like us .| Herrick also represents this change through his use of natural
imagery and pathetic fallacy; exemplified in the poem Hobos like us , Sit in the sunshine . Old
Bill s view of the world slowly starts to change, as the protagonist reduces his consumption of
alcohol and ventures to move on with his life. This is done through Herrick s use of Motif

How Leisure Reading Does More Harm Than Good Essay
Over the decades people have used leisure reading as a form of escapism, however people have
constantly debated whether or not such a method should be allowed. There are other ways one can
release tension and stress, and thus some people feel that such a practice can lead to faulty
outcomes. However, while some believe that it can cause more harm than good, experts have
proven that leisurereading is in fact beneficial. As such it, helps individuals to gain a sense of
morality, strengthens one s vocabulary, provides an easy way to release stress, learn new ideas and
concepts, as well as connect with characters.
In an article, Locked in Literacy: Why Reading isn t Always Good for you, Leo Robson explains
how leisure reading does more harm than good. While leisure reading may be seen as a form of
escape into another dimension, it in actuality could become more of a prison, designed to keep
the mind trapped in between the pages of a fictional world. There are other ways one could spend
their time, for example, there are talents to learn, and skills to develop. And even though reading
has its uses gaining more information on specific topics, scientific research, and cultural
backgrounds it shouldn t be used as a method to understand life. In fact, life should be the way to
understand reading as writing stems from the experience of others. Reading for pleasure should not
be encouraged, as reading should only be used to acquire information no matter how boring or
uninteresting

Why Google Is Unjust
How strong are you addicted to Google? Google is not at fault for people constantly being on the
internet. People use technology so often and it s been blamed onto one site like Google. In reality,
how often is that user on the internet. Also, many other sites are just as used as Google is. Does
that make those websites also unjust? The word unjust is defined as lacking in justice or fairness,
which, in reference to the proposed question suggests that Googleis being held to a legal or moral
standard. In reality Google simply provides a means to gather and research information and does

Disintegration Of Civilization In Lord Of The Flies

BANANA TIME CASE
This case deals specifically with the members of the clicking workgroup. The problem appears to
be a total lack of supervision and management oversight as the work location is completely
isolated from other areas of the shop floor. This lack of supervision has led to a number of
concerns. Specifically, the issues of horseplay, extended breaks and operatordisruptions, which all
lead to a loss of production, are clearly visible during daily operations. These problems, while on
the surface may seem trivial, the loss of production and absence of concern for operator safety

politics DeWitt Clinton changed America by developing new ideas for the state of New York. His
handprint can be seen today from the accomplishments some people may see from him. A
presidential candidate who lost to James Madisonin the election of 1812 thought his turn would be

The transition through the chapters like graduating from college to becoming mayor was
something astounding to me because he was only seventeen when he graduated and about
decade later he becomes mayor of New York City. Evan Cornog captured the dedication of what
Dewitt Clinton portrayed, like the help to make New York City and New York one of the
biggest thriving economies of the 19th century. The book captured the parts of Dewitt Clinton s
life by displaying the political hardships he faced when confronting people like Aaron Burr who
didn t like his stance on the Twelfth Amendment and Thomas Jefferson hesitation on the

the time his college professor praised him after he died, and one of his uncle s who was a doctor

Fear And Drive Promotion Argument Analysis
In Montana they had a serious problem where more that have they population is on meth. They
have young teens doing meth and it was destroying their lives and the community. High rate of
kids were in foster care because meth destroy their families. In this paper we will see Fear and
Drive Reduction model, Disruption by shock tactics and Cognitive Dissonancestrategy. We will see
these methods all at use in the campaign against meth in order to get people serious about this
epidemic that was happening in Montana.
Fear and Drive Reduction model is a way to persuade you to think and feel about a situation. The

Cognitive Dissonance strategy is use to enforce our feelings about a situation. In the Montana

getting people to feel uncomfortable with the shocking graphics and fear. Repeated exposure of

Another theory Maslow s Hierarchy of needs the basic needs of safety, belongingness, love,

easy for them to do becomes it make them feel love, and belongingness because everyone is doing

Times Of Our Lives Analysis
Time Perception: Screen vs. Print
We are living in a time of increasingly fast technological advances. As we become more and more
advanced, people are abandoning the physical hard copy books for E readers in increasingly large
numbers. E Readers have several advantages over physical books. To name a few, they are smaller
and lighter, can hold multiple books at a time, and can be backlit to help read in the dark. We are
interested in looking at some perceptual differences between when a person reads a book and
when they read on an E reader and more specifically, we want to measure whether an individual s
perception of time changes based on the medium in which they are receiving information. As
technology proliferates throughout our daily lives, it would be important to understand the effect it
has on our perception of time. Studying this could help to understand the relationship between
perceived time when reading a physical material and perceived time reading on a screen, which
could help us efficiently use our time.
In the reading, Modern Perception of Time and Acceleration of the Pace of Life , the author s
argument is that it is essential to pay more attention to the influence of ongoing changes on the life

Hispanic American Population
As of July 2014, the population of Hispanics in the United Stated was 55 million. This is the
nation s largest minority group and is expected to grow to 119 million by 2060 (USCB, 2015).
This population makes it hard for government agencies that assist the aging such as, Medicare and
Social Security, to be as beneficial. This is due to the lack of education and income Hispanic
Americans have (Silva, 2011). Every 1 in 5 Hispanic American lives below the povertyline and the
average income for most households in $10,000 below those in non ethnic households. Many lack
wealth or a type of savings because of the downturn of the economy. Hispanic Americans relied on

People need a way to make it to appointments and school as well (Castillo, 2013). When it comes

means for families to transport they spend 42% of their total income doing so (TLC, 2016). As

is important to make sure that the younger generation continues to voice their opinion in politics
to ensure that a difference is made. Currently, only a small number of people vote, again, due to

employment, education and health care security. If Hispanics want to run for office they are told

What Are Mismatched Friendships In Of Mice And Men
re are many similarities between the film Shrek and the novela Of Mice and Men. Three categories
that I have examples for are, mismatched friendships, antagonists, and the role of women. The first
category is mismatched friendships. In Shrek, Donkey tags around with Shrek like Lennie tags
around with George in Of Mice and Men. Also they both have their bad moments in each story. In
Shrek, Donkeyand Shrek are fighting and arguing all the time, but they still have good, friendly
moments, such as the one when they were laying on the ground looking at the stars and
constellations together. Also another example when he tells him not to come near his house,
and he ends up letting him sleep on the doorstep, and then inside. In Of Mice and Men, Lennie
and George are usually nice to each other, but sometimes when Lennie does something dumb or
screws up, George will get frustrated and tell him he wishes he would go away, or that he wasn t
there with him, then he wouldn t have to take care of him and that he could have an easier life.
An example is on page 13, when George says to Lennie, No, look! I was just foolin Lennie, cause
I do want you to stay with me! George just got done yelling at Lennie and telling him how he
wishes that sometimes he wouldn t be with him so that he could go out and live a normal life and

Lenovo Competitive Advantage
3.1 Recommended Future strategic direction to attain competitive advantage
3.1.1 Proposed strategy
It is important for a company to choose a relevant internationalization strategy in order to attain
competitive advantage. According to Philip Kotler and Gary Armstrong, a company can attain
competitive advantage when the company is able to perform in one or more ways that competitors
cannot or will not match (Philip Kotler, Gary Armstrong, 2007, p182)
As Lenovo has been successfully internationalizing into other country by using joint venture and

exporting. Direct exporting is considered relevant to be used by Lenovo because Lenovo can

The advantages that global integration can give to Lenovo through cost leadership are that they can

Pharma Company Restructuring Plan Accounting Under IFRSs U.S. GAAP
Introduction and Background
Pharma Company is a U.S. based subsidiary of a U.K. organization and prepares its financial
statements in accordance with both U. S GAAP (for reporting to its U.S. based lender) and IFRSs
(for reporting to its U.K. parent). As part of a restructuring plan for one of their business lines,
Pharma Company is considering the relocation of a manufacturing operation from its current
location in Bellvue, Oklahoma to a new facility in a separate geographic location. Due to the
restructuring plan put in place, Pharma Company has taken several actions which are listed below:

Pharma Company has also entered into irrevocable contracts that will affect the restructuring plan
over the next 18 months. In addition, the cost to dismantle the existing manufacturing operation is
estimated at $1 million but has yet to be finalized. Though Pharma Company is under no legal
obligation to perform the dismantling (and have not done so during past restructuring plans) they
have stated their plans to dismantle the Bellvue facility in a press release.
Issues
Several issues arise for Pharma Company as a result of their planned relocation. The main issue is
whether or not to record a restructuring provision for the relocation plan under both IFRSs and
U.S. GAAP. The subsequent issues are which of the incurred costs should be included in the
possible restructuring provision and when they should be accrued under both IFRSs and U.S.
GAAP. These include deciding on whether to recognize (1) the leasetermination liability, (2) the
one time termination benefit liability, (3) the $500,000 cost of relocation, $1.5 million staff
training, and any irrevocable contract costs, as well as (4) any dismantling costs for the year ended
December 31, 2011.
Brief Overview of Conclusions
After review of the primary issue it has been discovered that (in accordance with both U.S. GAAP
and IFRSs guidelines) Pharma Company s plan to relocate its manufacturing operation meets the

Hegemonic Masculinity In Dude You Re A Fag
When it comes to gender studies, the term of hegemonic masculinity is generally used to describe a
theory of male dominance in society and culture. By exploring gender roles and its interplay with
race and class, hegemonic masculinity seeks to explain how men have historically maintained a
position of dominance in society, and why such dominance has been successfully maintained.
Hegemonic masculinityhas been historically maintained around the world, in different cultures, in a
wide variety of ways. Historically, for example, denying women legal rights, or more brutal
methods such as domestic violence or female circumcision and rape, were all tools that were part of
maintaining this particular hegemony. It is important to note that hegemonic... Show more content

corruption are familiar to Nigeria including political corruption, bureaucratic corruption, electoral
corruption, embezzlement, and bribery. Corruption has even been said to be a viable enterprise in

the lawsuit, but the light that was shed on what was going on would ultimately cause Shell increase
investment to the community. Today Shell makes efforts to contribute to small businesses and
education in Nigeria.
3. Was Shell taking advantage of weak local regulation?
Shell was taking advantage of weak local regulation and using third party companies to funnel
bribes to the Nigerian government. These bribes bought them many sources of preferential
treatment including using government manpower to move ships, rigs, workboats, and other
equipment throughout the country. Shell was also able to exploit the military and secured the
use of military aircraft for quick movement of special goods. Bribes also allowed Shell to
circumvent visa inspections and avoid having their employees deported for over staying their
visas. Many precautions were taken to cook the books and hide these bribes in case of an audit.
One such precaution included drawing up fake invoices to create line items on the balance sheet
to mask certain bribes. All of these actions taken by Shell are clear examples of how they took
advantage of the weak government. A strong government with proper checks and balances would
be much harder to manipulate. Bribery and other forms of corruption would be treated harshly in

on the king s will. Nevertheless, the homosexual aspect of this chapter is not necessary because it
seems rushed and makes assumptions, and is only revealed a few times in the chapter. Concluding

With the choice of three other types of point of views to write in, the choice of third person
limited omniscient is an excellent choice in terms of narrative. Instead of getting a biased look
through the lens of Oswald or his peers, the objectivity of the third person point of view gives a
more objective study on Oswald s character. By being presented a brief third person overview
describing the actions of the surrounding characters, the reader comes to the conclusion that the
Bronx is a place filled with the stereotypical type of New York inhabitants it is known for

accomplishing goals. In this paper, I will examine their differences and similarities within the
context of interrelationship.
A nurse patient relationship is the basic requirements in all practice settings. Its usage is to manage
communication between an organization and a public while maintaining boundaries in the
therapeutic relationship. Based on Peplau s interpersonal theory, communication takes place in a
nurse client relationship where therapeutic process occurs involving complex factors such as
environment, attitudes, practices, and beliefs in the dominant culture (seu.edu, 2015). The actions
of each person in a nurse patient relationship is measured on the collaboration of their thoughts,
feelings, and experiences. Nurse s work to attain, maintain, and restore the patient s health until
patient have fulfilled the health care needs. Patient must be guided and provided a well respected
environment until a better health and specific needs are fully considered in the relationship. In this
kind of setting, nurse s must create relationship with patients by communicating receptivity,
assimilating the concepts of empathy, trust, genuineness, respect, and confidentiality into their

The Knowledge Of The Natural Sciences And History Based On...
When the quote states, attempt to know the world , it is regarding the gain of knowledge. This is
because knowledge is the understanding of the physical world surrounding us and beyond. Plato
defined knowledge as justified, true belief, meaning that for knowledge to be legitimate, it must
be justified by sources such as reason, empirical evidence or memory. Secondly, the term
assumptions in the quote should also be explored. According to the oxford dictionary, assumptions
can be defined as something that is accepted as true without proof . Therefore the quote is stating
that our knowledge of the world is based on a set of assumptions. The second part of the assertion
produces the knowledge issues of the inability of testing the knowledge. The oxford dictionary
defines tested as taking measurements to check the reliability of the something. Therefore, a key
question that comes from this quote is: To what extent are all knowledge in the natural sciences
and history based on assumptions and is it possible to test it s reliability?
The first knowledge issue from this quote is that the knowledge gained from the physical world is
based on things that without proof. This knowledge issue can be interlinked with the area of
knowledge of natural sciences. The natural sciences study the rules that govern the natural world by
applying an empirical and scientific method to study of the universe. It is considered on of the

Boston Tea Party Research Paper
The Boston Tea Party was a tremendous moment in history that was caused by many factors and

colonists retaliated by taking teaoff of a British boat and throwing it into the harbor. This led to the

Somatic Marker Hypothesis
Part 1: research justification
Traditionally, decision making has been seen as a purely rational process involving a logical
analysis of the response options and their believed outcomes. However, the somatic marker
hypothesis (SMH) proposes that in situations where outcomes are uncertain, our decisions are
guided by emotion rather than reason. According to this hypothesis, physiological feedback from
the body informs our emotional experience, which in turn guides our decision making. Somatic
Markers are formed when the consequence of a particular response option evokes a set of
physiological responses (e.g. increased heart rate). These physiological responses become
associated with the response option and thus mark that option with emotional value. The next time
this response option is encountered, the associated physiological state is reactivated and will bias ...

Analysis Of The Poem The Mineshaft s Circular Chamber
Chapter Twenty
Didn t See That Coming
The mineshaft s circular chamber
Maybe an hour later
I have to find it for you, a gruff voice said.
My sight came back, diffused, dim dreamlike. A ghost drifted beside me in a billowy blouse, navy
breeches, stockings, and buckled boots. His hair long and loose and peacock blue was gathering a
lace of dust. He was blurred as ghosts often are, but his voice was clear.
Captain McBride, I thought. But that s impossible. He s dead, which means . . . I m dead too?
Don t fret, child. He reached out and brushed his ghostly fingers across my cheek. I m going to
give you something. Hide it in your sock and don t tell anyone you have it.

Through the long passageways over sharp rocks and low under hangs and was several dozen steps
away from the etched figures on the limestone wall when I heard a distant voice that was definitely
Bane s echoing around the mineshaft. Hurry up, girl.
I crept the rest of the way through and stumbled out into the stone space. I must have looked like a
dirty coal miner, but Bane was too interested in the Sade Stone to pay me much attention.
It s about time, he said.
Sorry, for the delay. The Stone s inside, I mumbled, handing him the flashlight.
He took several long strides, stopped, and eyed me suspiciously.
Breathe, I told myself. He s a man, not a monster.
Is this another one of your tricks?
No, I replied.
No, sir, he corrected.
Sir, I repeated.
He unscrewed the flashlight cap and dumped the pebbles into his hand. You re so done.
I turned to run, wondering if I d appear on a milk carton someday soon a blond kid, hands clasped
over my doughnut shaped mouth as a madman chased after me.
I reached the corridor with the low ceiling just as Bane rounded the corner. In seconds, my
sneakers crossed laces with his tennis shoes, and our combined forward momentum carried us
through in a tangle of elbows and knees and a sudden frenzy of flying rocks. I hit the mine floor
rolling like a girl shaped soccer ball.
Bane stopped me with a kick to the chest. He could have continued thumping me into Silly Putty,
but he was too busy

Small Town Essay

This Small Town Means Business: Improving Local Economy When you grow up in a small town
the one thing that is the most difficult to withstand is boredom. At least, that s how it is for the
youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you
might realize that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s
revenue for different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different
projects that will really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has
grown tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to
host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not
best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new
sports complex for all of the youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting
this tournament. Out of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team
stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because
the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming pool. The teams would
rather make a thirty minute commute than stay in a hotel that does not have a swimming pool. The
next project Sallisaw is undertaking is bringing in a well known hotel

Television Commercials Designed for the Female Audience
The television commercial is perhaps the most effective means of product marketing and
advertisement. Television is present in 99% of American households, and it stays turned on an
average of seven hours per day. (http://www.envirolink.com/) The televisionaudience is a varied,
widespread audience, ensuring manufacturers that their products advertisements are reaching all
possible customers. Obviously, not all products are produced for all consumers. Market analysts and
advertisers must find advertising techniques that can be used in commercials for certain target
customers and use those commercials to directly affect the ideal customer for the product. Gender,

As professional research journals and articles were not found, my research is based on
television facts from the Internet and pure analytical observation and comparison of present day
television commercials. The age group considered child was five to twelve years. Commercials
in this group advertised products aimed at children to include cereals, dolls, and toys, as well as
products aimed at women, such as laundry detergent, using girls for advertisers. I did find a
basic format of the child s commercial, even though the actors and products varied greatly. I
found camera action to be slow and fluent. Very few jump cuts and quick zooms were used;
instead, individual shots slid from scene to scene very fluidly. The camera would focus on the
children, giving equal coverage to each child and each product. This type of action gave the
viewer time to clearly see the product, as well as the actress using it.
The child actresses had similarities in almost every commercial. Most notably, they were all female,
appearing to be between the ages of six and eight, no matter what toy was being advertised. The
girls were outfitted in pinks, blues, yellows, and greens of all shades, but mostly light pastels.
Dresses and overalls were prominent as were bows, ponytails, curly blonde hair, petite bodies, and
smiles. Many toothy smiles crossed

Irwin Schiff s The Federal Mafia: How It Illegally Imposes and Unlawful Collects Income Taxes is
a how to manual on how to stop paying income taxes. Schiff wrote this book in 1980 while in
prison for failing to file income tax reports. Schiff has been in jail several times for tax evasion
and other crimes involving taxes. Schiff s book was intended to motivate people to fight income
taxes. This book was banned after the information in it was declared fraudulent by the federal

American libraries published an article titled FTRF Files Amicus Opposing U.S. Ban on Anti Tax
Book in which District Judge Lloyd D. George notes that it is illegal under tax code to engage
fraudulent or deceptive conduct that substantially interferes with the proper administration of the
internal revenue laws . (American Libraries Magazine 1) This made it illegal for Schiff to write a
book that contained fraudulent information on tax evasion because it would interfere with the IRS
collecting taxes from hundreds of Americans who read Schiff s book. Declaring that the book
contains fraudulent information allows it to be banned appropriately.
The court declared that Schiff s book was part of a tax evasion scheme and therefore they could
prohibit the sale of the book. In a New York Times article titled Court Says Author Can t Sell His
Book on Evading Taxes Judge Procter Hug Jr. wrote that Schiff has been selling products that
help...customers engage in illegal activity, and is making fraudulent claims regarding the legality
of income taxes. (Johnston 1) Anyone is allowed to sell Schiff s book excluding Schiff and his
associates. It seems pointless to ban a book that is still allowed to be sold. Schiff s ideas and
thoughts are still being spread.
Schiff argues that income taxes are completely voluntary

Research Paper On Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
After a surprisingly funny and exciting first outing, the Guardians of the Galaxy are back for a
second go of it in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. What made the first movie so charming was
that no one besides a huge comic book nerd is going to know who these characters are. What did
there potential lead to? Probably one of the best Marvel films to date. It looked different, it was
almost entirely separated from the events on Earth, but still had the whole Infinity Stones angle.
What really made it stand out is, of course, Chris Pratt becoming a superstar.

Does Groot get a whole back story? Not as much as you d think, but he is the cutest damn thing
in the film. There s a major action part in the film, which has been shown a lot in the trailers,
where Gamora yells at Groot to find cover because it s dangerous. Groot smile and waves at her
because Groot loves everyone. Gamora has to stop, fail at holding back her smile, and says Hi.
The moment should take you out of the film, but Baby Groot is so cute that even one of the most
badass warriors in the galaxy is won over by him.

Stem Cells And Its Effects On Development During The First...
Stem Cells: Embryonic stem cells are bodily cells that are in development during the first stages
of life. These are the cells that will go on to make all of the body tissues of the offspring, like
neurons, blood and skin cells. (Farrell et al.). With these human cells scientists can repair
damaged tissue of diseased patients as well as study the diseases they have. Only recently have
stem cells been available to collect and study. Currently, there are only a few methods of collection,
such as retrieving them from in vitro fertilization: Aborted fetuses. However, these methods do not
supply a constant source of the stem cells, and currently there are too few cultures of cells in labs
to attempt any real medical advancement with. So, if... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Experiments show that stem cells could be the answer to solving many medical problems that
humans suffer from. Stem cells injected into damaged tissue repaired the cells there by dividing
until all of the old cells were replaced. However, 20% of test animals injected with stem cells
developed untreatable brain tumors (Clouthier). Stem cells can divide endlessly and each time one
divides, the daughter cells have a chance of being another stem cell, or a specialized cell for a
specific function. Stem cells are unspecialized, meaning they have no specific purpose other
than to repair damaged cells by replacing them. Adult stem cells are released in adults when
tissue needs to be replaced, but stem cells from the blastocyst, the five day old group of cells of
an unrecognizable fetus, are where researchers are interested most. In 1953, the precursor of
what scientists know as stem cells was found by Leroy Stevens, who was studying cancer with
mice. In their tumors he found a mix of specialized and unspecialized cells. In 1981, Martin Evans
and Gail Martin derived stem cells from the embryos of mice. This was the first time ever in
history that any form of stem cell was isolated. Then in 1986, researchers found that they could
revert connective tissue collected from mice back into mytoblasts, what generates

Acute Stress Response
Abstract
People deal with stressful situations differently. However, there is an obvious fear when someone
suddenly encounters a frightening situation. The acute stress response is a sudden reaction of the
body prompted by a psychological disturbance over a short period. Most psychologists refer to the
condition as the fight or flight response. When a person experiences a sudden physical or mental
scare, the response is very fast. A person might decide to fight back the terrifying element or to run
away, which signifies the flight aspect of the response (Lee, 2004). By 1920, few people understand
this concept until Walter Cannon tried to establish the reason why an adrenaline rush occurs when
an individual encounters a distressing situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the mind records such a situation, remembrances and flashbacks become automatic. There are
people who should not revisit a place that reminds them of the situation. Ordinarily, people with
traumatic stress disorder often remember an encounter by revisiting the place of the incidence. On
the other hand, people with acute stress response react in the same way even when they imaging
that the fear factor is around them during a particular time. The condition automatically increases
the heart beat and the blood pressure when an individual associates a scenario with the distressing
condition (Fink, 2000). Some people go to the extent of vomiting or increasing body temperatures
because certain images or objects cause fear in them. The people suffering from acute stress
response are likely to expect the outcomes of an action before engaging in an activity. Largely, this
response is normal, but there are people who sweat and shake before going through the exercise
because they fear the outcome of the activity. There is an element of associating the past with the
present, which generates fear while increasing

Influence
1.Our Level of Influence is not Static Maxwell and Dornan commence by addressing several
fallacies related to becoming a person of influence. One myth the author attempts to dispel is that
past performance always determines future success. They assert that an individual s level of
influence is not static (1997, Introduction, sec. Positive Influencers Add Value , para. 2). One need
not assume their impact with others in the past dictates their influence with them tomorrow. Paul
describes a similar sentiment in Romans 12, God assures Paul that, human weaknesses or failures
are never a limitation upon God s ability (verse 9). Furthermore, these limitations that may
otherwise disqualify me, actually, can serve to magnify God s strength as... Show more content on

There is a modern parable about character where an administrative assistant refuses to lie on
behalf of her boss. In response to the boss reprimand, she reminds him that, while she will never
lie for him, he can rest assured that she will, also, never lie to him. Early in ministry, I was asked
to take responsibility for registration at a large conference for Chi Alpha. Everything was great,
until one year, I discovered a discrepancy of over a thousand dollars. After checking and rechecking
my numbers, I apologetically reported the problem to my superior. While everything was clarified
the next day, it was the willingness to be responsible even before anyone knew there was a problem
that has secured access to opportunities that would have remained unattainable despite all the
technical aptitude I could demonstrate. 3.Enlarging People Chapter 6 addresses the concept of
enlarging others with a powerful personal testimony of a former president of Lockheed Aircraft
Corporation. He asserts that, if companies would concentrate on facilitating the development of
their human resource, they need not concern themselves with the quality or efficiency of their
product (Maxwell Dornan, 1997, chapter 6, sec. Enlarging Others is an Investment , para. 2). But,

F. Scott Fitzgerald is the spokesman of the Jazz Age and is also one of the greatest novelists in the

of the self made young men in the 20th century. In this thesis, Fitzgerald s two most important
novels The Great Gatsby(2003) and Tender is the Night(2005) are analyzed. Both these two novels

  • 2. The Parson s Tale The Parson s tale, although short, sweet and simple has some very good and important messages. The tale really feels more like a sermon given by a priest than a tale or story. The parson talks about being a pilgrim and going from the current world to what seems to be the afterlife or maybe even another world altogether and this world all guilt and grief seems to go away. The parson then goes on to say that g d does not actually want anyone to die and there are many paths for everyone to this afterlife or other universe, which the Parson refers to the Celestial City. Some of the things someone can do to get this place are confession, patience, doing penance and fasting just to name a few. Then the Parson lists the things one can not do if they desire to reach the Celestial City. They are anger, accide, avarice, gluttony, lechery, envy and satisfaction . These are the seven deadly sins and are probably the worst things that a religious christian could think of doing. The tale (sermon) then ends after the Parson spells out the sins of everyone to hear. Although this tale, which is really a sermon is not overly complicated it is important. The Parson s tale, although short, is important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It being the first religious story, on a religious pilgrimage that I have read so far helps it reinforce its important place is a dose of reality to the other pilgrims. Even though I am not christian, I can still relate to the Parsons purpose of telling the story and the message that he conveys in doing so as well as the importance of religious anecdotes such as this one. Although I am still left with one question at the conclusion of reading the tales. That is, what is the order of the tales? Was this much needed religious antidote given in the beginning, middle or end of the journey? Regardless, it is still important the message will hopefully sit with the other pilgrims for a very long time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sex is always considered a taboo and controversial topic, whereas most think they know something about love, and they re more than willing to give others unwanted free advice. However, very few people talk about both in depth together. Last Night by Sharon Olds and Seniors by Alberto Rios cover a variety of topics, but most importantly they both cover loveand sex. More specifically, they cover both what the male and female thoughts are about sex, what their expectations are during the act, and where love comes into play. Both speakers are memorializing their past experiences, the experiences between the two are exceedingly different. Both poems have very similar intentions,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Banks are not the only financial intermediary from which corporations can obtain financing. What are the other intermediaries? How much financing do they supply, relative to banks, in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan? The other financial intermediaries include insurance companies, mutual funds and pension funds. In Japan, banks provide more financing than other financial intermediaries do. In the U.K., other financial intermediaries provide substantially more financing. In the U.S., banks are less important sources of financing compared to financial intermediaries. While in Europe, financing provided by banks and financing provided by other financial intermediaries are approximately equal. 3.Why is transparency important in a market based financial system? Why is it less important in a bank based system? Transparency is essential in a market based system, but is not necessarily a requirement for a bank based system. In a bank based system, banks have long standing working relationships with the companies seeking financing, and banks have on going access to information about the firm. In a market based system, creditors and equity holders require that financial information about companies seeking financing be available, sufficiently detailed and accurate if they are to participate in the market. • 8. Horror Of The Horror Movie Weenie. That is the word that comes to mind when I think about myself watching horror films. I am the girl that shields her eyes, jumps at the slightest jump scare, and cringes at the tiniest amount of gore. But contrary to what this previous information might tell you about myself, I love a good horror movie. I believe there is nothing that can bring a group of friends together like a good ol scary filmon a crisp, Autumn night. A film that I discovered last Fall was The Babadook, written and directed by Jennifer Kent. This film is a psychological horror, meaning it uses different twists and tricks to scare you rather than using creepy creatures or gore. The main plot of this movie is about a widowed mother, named Amelia who is still struggling with the effects the death of her late husband has on her while she is raising their son, Samuel. The antagonist in this film is the monster, The Babadook, who is the manifestation of the mother s depression. This film has become a favorite of mine because it uses a monster to showcase how scary a very common, real life problem is. Samuel and Amelia live alone in a small home in a quaint, Australian town. Samuel has proven to be a problem child as he is always getting into some sort of mischief at school or at home. He also is still afraid that monsters are living in his room even though Amelia tries everything she can to help him cope with his fears but nothing seems to help and the failure just adds fire to her internal storm she has. One night she tries to help calm Samuel by allowing him to pick out a book to read as a bedtime story. Sam picks out the book Mister Babadook. Obviously, this book tells the tale about the real life monster The Babadook and it scared the child so bad he just laid in his mother s lap and screamed the entire night. This screaming fit drove Amelia crazy and was sort of the straw that broke the camel s back to send her into her depressive state. In the days after they read Mister Babadook, Samuel blamed his mischievous behavior on The Babadook as it was beginning its haunting. Amelia believes Sam is just up to his usual antics until she too starts feeling strange things occurring in their lives. After getting rid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Literary Analysis Of The Cask Of Amontillado The story, The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, is a narration of revenge and murder crafted and committed in the most of secretive ways, that the victim, Fortunato, did not recognize the murder plan until at the very last point of last breath. The story, narrated by Montresor, gives an account of an oppressed individual, who had patiently and submissively subjected to oppression, until insults began, and he could no longer take any more. The narrator had been oppressed many times by the victim against whom he seeks revenge. In the very opening of the narration, the narrator claims to have been hurt by the victim numerous times when stating THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could (Poe, n.p.). However, while suffering quietly from all the injuries he had received from Fortunato, Montresor had crafted a plan for revenge, which he ensured the target victim would not detect. Indeed, Montresor continued to mask his evil plans against the victim through acting nicely towards him and also maintaining a smile that only him knew was informed by the thought of revenge (Poe, n.p.). Indeed, Montresor no doubt comes out as very crafty, and the secretively crafted plan of revenge against Fortunato he made can be lauded as being genius. Nevertheless, this discussion holds the argument that it is Fortunato s skepticism, as opposed to Montresor s definitive and genius plan, that materializes the revenge. The story, The Cask of Amontillado, is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Theories Of Determinism Intro To my knowledge freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. Determinism states that every event has a set of causes that determine their effects. However the things people do can be labeled cause with a equal effect as well. Everyone has a set of choices that leads us to act. However these choices may depend on a different set of circumstances. Deciding how we should act and if thus action is by our free will. I like Aristotle believe that these actions be they voluntary or involuntary are a reflection of our morals based on our feelings and actions. Case One After a night of drinking Caleb refuses to be driven home. Because he is driving under the influence. Hence causing for the car to run off of the bridge resulting in the death ... During one of these unlawful acts, with his brother s life in mind Jesse was forced to run down a police officer, in result killing him. The act is Jesse running down the police officer. Jean Paul Sartre expressed that as an individual we have both the freedom and responsibility to choose to act or not to act. thus there are no accidents in life.. could always get out of it by suicide or desertion; these ultimate possible are those which must always be present for us when there is a question of envisaging a situation. (Sartre 660 661). What he does cover is what if there is someone else life in danger. For example, a loved one. Aristotle believes that sometimes our actions may also be involuntary. But if it is to save the life of himself and his mates, any sensible person would do it. (Aristotle 647). Its these complications that allowed Jesse to selflessly go against his nature and voluntarily and involuntarily commit these acts. It s a fine line to say he freely committed the acts. When there were extenuating circumstances such as being held at gunpoint that inhibited his freedom and the freedom of others. In my opinion from a moral stand point, because Jesse made choices based on external complications morally he s responsible for the death of the cop. but on a higher standpoint the robber is more morally responsible than ... I will also document the problems of exit visa in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, scarce living conditions and health problems of migrant workers, violence against migrant domestic workers in Lebanon, violation of freedom in Saudi Arabia, and violation of basic labor rights in Qatar during the preparation of FIFA World Cup 2022. I will conclude the report by identifying the violations under Intentional Law and giving recommendations to countries which use Kafala system. Background Historically, the Kafala system was never intended to be the main source of exploitation and abuse of migrants. Khan and Harroff Tavel claim in their article that, The sponsorship system is a time honored tradition of the Bedouin principle of hospitality, which sets obligations in the treatment and protection of foreign guests (Khan Harrof Tavel, 2011, p. 294). How Leisure Reading Does More Harm Than Good Essay Over the decades people have used leisure reading as a form of escapism, however people have constantly debated whether or not such a method should be allowed. There are other ways one can release tension and stress, and thus some people feel that such a practice can lead to faulty outcomes. However, while some believe that it can cause more harm than good, experts have proven that leisurereading is in fact beneficial. In an article, Locked in Literacy: Why Reading isn t Always Good for you, Leo Robson explains how leisure reading does more harm than good. While leisure reading may be seen as a form of escape into another dimension, it in actuality could become more of a prison, designed to keep the mind trapped in between the pages of a fictional world. There are other ways one could spend their time, for example, there are talents to learn, and skills to develop. And even though reading has its uses gaining more information on specific topics, scientific research, and cultural backgrounds it shouldn t be used as a method to understand life. The Coercive Acts broke into two parts, The Intolerable Acts and The Quebec Act. The Quebec Act gave the colonists the right to practice Roman Catholic Religion on their own free will (Brackemyre). The Intolerable Acts broke up into even more separate parts. The first of which was The BostonPort Bill. That closed all ports in and out of Boston until the tea that was thrown into the harbor was paid for. That was too expensive for the colonists to pay for, and if they did, then the British would still come out as the winners in the retaliation against this tax. The next piece of The Intolerable Acts was The Administration of Justice Act which stated that any British soldiers accused of murdering colonists were to be tried in England. This just about guaranteed that the British soldiers would be free of charges due to the colonists not having a place in the jury. The next act as part of The Intolerable Acts is The Massachusetts Government Act which took away the colonists right to elect representatives for the legislature. Somatic Marker Hypothesis Part 1: research justification Traditionally, decision making has been seen as a purely rational process involving a logical analysis of the response options and their believed outcomes. However, the somatic marker hypothesis (SMH) proposes that in situations where outcomes are uncertain, our decisions are guided by emotion rather than reason. According to this hypothesis, physiological feedback from the body informs our emotional experience, which in turn guides our decision making. Somatic Markers are formed when the consequence of a particular response option evokes a set of physiological responses (e.g. increased heart rate). These physiological responses become associated with the response option and thus mark that option with emotional value. With these human cells scientists can repair damaged tissue of diseased patients as well as study the diseases they have. Only recently have stem cells been available to collect and study. Currently, there are only a few methods of collection, such as retrieving them from in vitro fertilization: Aborted fetuses. However, these methods do not supply a constant source of the stem cells, and currently there are too few cultures of cells in labs to attempt any real medical advancement with. So, if... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Experiments show that stem cells could be the answer to solving many medical problems that humans suffer from. Stem cells injected into damaged tissue repaired the cells there by dividing until all of the old cells were replaced. However, 20% of test animals injected with stem cells developed untreatable brain tumors (Clouthier). Stem cells can divide endlessly and each time one divides, the daughter cells have a chance of being another stem cell, or a specialized cell for a specific function. Stem cells are unspecialized, meaning they have no specific purpose other than to repair damaged cells by replacing them. Adult stem cells are released in adults when tissue needs to be replaced, but stem cells from the blastocyst, the five day old group of cells of an unrecognizable fetus, are where researchers are interested most. In 1953, the precursor of what scientists know as stem cells was found by Leroy Stevens, who was studying cancer with mice. In their tumors he found a mix of specialized and unspecialized cells. In 1981, Martin Evans and Gail Martin derived stem cells from the embryos of mice. This was the first time ever in history that any form of stem cell was isolated. When a person experiences a sudden physical or mental scare, the response is very fast. A person might decide to fight back the terrifying element or to run away, which signifies the flight aspect of the response (Lee, 2004).
