An Article On The Missing Link Of Success
The Missing Link #4: Productivity
By Kyre Adept
Nov 14, 2012
Are you feeling stuck or paralyzed in your life or business? Do you spend way too much time on the
internet, reading your email, drinking coffee or the equivalent because you just can t focus on work?
The fact is that many people are slackers and drifters, with mediocre lives...
The good news is that in the teleconference series on The Missing Link to Success, we look at the five
components that I have found are central to creating a prosperous life. Here s the formula:
PASSION + PURPOSE + POSITION + PRODUCTIVITY + PEACE OF MIND = PROSPERITY
As well as the article called The Missing Link to Success, which provides an overview of the whole
series, there is an article for each of these Five Ps , so look for them wherever you found this article! I
m going to assume you ve read the summary article plus the articles on Passion, Purpose and Position,
because each components builds on the previous ones. Once you have reset the first three Ps, you are
ready to improve your capacity to be PRODUCTIVE.
What does this mean? Why is it important to be productive? The main dictionary definition of
productive is: yielding favorable or useful results; being constructive; effective in achieving specified
results. (There are also specialized meanings in economics, medicine and linguistics, but the main
meanings will do.)
In work terms, productivity means being able to focus on your assigned (or assumed) tasks, and to

Memorial Day Festival Analysis
For the last five years and counting, Monterey, California, has increasingly become a hot spot to visit
during Memorial Day Weekend. Besides the great weather and beautiful sights along the coast, the
area s biggest attraction for the long weekend is now known as the California Roots Music and Arts
Festival. Today, announcements were made for the first wave of roots rock reggae artists to be
featured at the 6th annual event.
Atop the list of well rounded artists are San Diego s very own, Slightly Stoopid and Tribal Seeds.
Making a triumphant return from their captivating performance at last year s festival will be Nahko
and Medicine For The People. Rising artists such as Fortunate Youth, Trevor Hall, Mike Love and
Animo have also been mentioned alongside established veterans in this broad genre such as G. Love
Special Sauce, The Supervillains, John Brown s Body and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. John
Wayne and The Pain is also part of this highly anticipated announcement that features globally known
hip hop group, Dilated Peoples. E.N Young, a solo artist and producer as well as keyboardist for Tribal
Seeds, will also have his own time slot on stage at some point throughout the weekend. ... Show more

Stock Options
Many years ago stock options were rarely used as incidental benefits for top executives. Nowadays,
compensating employee whit stock options has become an increasingly common practice. Before the
year 1996, only the intrinsic value method was used to record these transactions. This method
distorted the issuer s reported financial condition and results of operations, which could lead to
inappropriate decisions taken by investors. Followed by the increased use of employee stock options
and the surrounding controversy of its recording method, on the year 1996 the fair value method was
introduced to be used as an alternative to the intrinsic method and on 2004 the intrinsic value method
was completely discontinued. The Fair value method ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fair value of an option grant ideally would be based on the observable market price of the option
or of one with similar terms and conditions. As the market price is not usually observable, fair value
measurement techniques use option pricing models such as a Black Scholes model, a Monte Carlo
simulation technique, or a lattice model to determine a fair value of an option that is, one that accounts
for factors such as the stock price at the grant date, the strike price, the expected life of the option (that
is, the expected period of time between the grant date and the exercise date), the volatility of the
underlying stock and the expected dividends on it, and the risk free interest rate over the expected life
of the option. Assuming that the fair value option pricing model determines the company s total
compensation expense to be $300,000, then this company will expense $100,000 each of the following
three years. The 2004 requirement eliminated the use of the intrinsic value based method and thus
addressed users and other parties concerns of financial statements distortions by requiring an entity to
recognize the cost of employee services received in share based payment transactions, thereby
reflecting the economic consequences of those transactions in the financial statements. By requiring
the fair value method for all

Parenting Styles Essay
When my first child was born I there was considerable interest in Mozart CDs. These Cd s were
marketed with the promise that playing them would enrich the intellectual and creative development
of my child. Behind the popularity of selling products on such an idea is an unfortunate theme:
Parenting can be done quickly and with little inconvenience. The reality is that good parenting does
not require classical music, but instead time and effort. As children grow from infancy into
adolescence the role of parenting broadens. How parents react to their child s actions communicates a
standard of appropriate and inappropriate behavior that are fulfilled with varying degrees of conscious
awareness. There are two major dimensions that underline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

What are the differences between children who have parents that show little affection when compared
to those who liberally hug and kiss? Does it matter if some parents are strict while others are lax?
Does it make a difference if some parents spank their children while others go on in seemingly
endlessly discussions? As my son once said to his older brother, Just say you understand so he ll shut
up. Diana Baumrind (1966, 1967, 1978) decided to find out the answers to those questions by
determining what effect parenting styles, as interactions between the two dimensions of parental
acceptance and control, had on children s social and intellectual competence. To start with, Baumrind
identified four distinct parenting styles: neglectful, permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative.
Neglectful parenting is a style in which the parent is very uninvolved in the child s life. These parents
seem to focus more on their own lives and are not particularly involved with or supportive of their
children. They appear to be detached from the child and provide only for their basic physical and
emotional needs and not much else. They offer little or no help with homework, provide minimal
supervision, and spend little time together. Permissive (or indulgent) parents are responsive and
accepting. They make few demands of their children, indulge their children s desires, and use little
punishment. They allow their children free expression of impulses and set few

Gender Stereotypes In Media
As much as I hate to admit it, I do think media has an affect on how I interact with others. Media
influences me to have a lot of presumptions regarding both males and females, but I found that I have
more presumptions of males. The thought that all men should be strong is one example I have.
Growing up, I watched a lot of Disney movies and in those movies there was always a Prince that
would come and rescue the Princess. Those Disney movies made me believe that all men should be
strong. Therefore, whenever I used to see a friend, who was a guy, look kind of weak, I would tell him
that he should start working out, even though I should have realized and accepted that every man is
different. Like the video Codes of Gender said, men are portrayed as emotionless in the media. The
media also made me assume that it was weird if a man showed sadness. When I did see a guy show
that he was sad, to the point where he might have even cried, I became slightly uncomfortable. I have
only recently accepted that it is okay for a man to cry. Media, especially in movies, tend to portray
men as dominant over women, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

told to run like a girl, they ran slowly and in a weak manner. When told to fight like a girl they barely
used any strength in their hands and made comments like no, my hair . The code that is being
portrayed in this commercial is that girls are weak. The commercial poses the question When did do
something like a girl become an insult? . In society today, a lot of people use the term you fight like a
girl or you run like a girl to try and insult another person. This just continues to show that women are
portrayed as weak in society and that everything they do, including something simple like running, is

Mardi Gras History
The phrase Laissez les bons temps rouler! which means let the good times roll in French, is one of the
most popular sayings during Mardi Gras. This holiday is celebrated differently all across Louisiana.
There are a variety of celebrations including parades and balls. Many historians believe that the first
American Mardi Gras took place on March 3, 1699, when the French explorers Iberville and Bienville
landed in what is now Louisiana, just south of the holiday s future epicenter: New Orleans. They held
a small celebration and dubbed the spot Point du Mardi Gras. In the decades that followed, New
Orleans and other French settlements began marking the holiday with street parties, masked balls and
lavish dinners. When the Spanish took control of New Orleans, however, they abolished these rowdy
rituals, and the bans remained in force until Louisiana became a U.S. state in 1812.
Body of Research
The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced to medieval Europe, passing through Rome and Venice in the
17th and 18th centuries to the French House of the Bourbons. From here, the traditional revelry of
Boeuf Gras, or fatted calf, followed France to her colonies.
On March 2, 1699, French Canadian explorer Jean Baptiste Le Moyne Sieur de Bienville arrived at a
plot of ground 60 miles directly south of New Orleans, and named it Pointe du Mardi Gras when his
men realized it was the eve of the festive holiday. Bienville also established Fort Louis de la Louisiane
(which is now

The Truth About Boys And Girls
Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.
America is supposed to be considered the land of the free. In the constitution it says people have the
freedom of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Then why are gays afraid to come out, and why
are females forced into sex trafficking? There are limitations on our freedom. Both speaker Chris
Baker, and the article The Truth about Boys and Girls demonstrate how society s influence puts
limitations on people s freedom. Stereotypes and generalizations about boys and girls is an example of
how people have freedom with limitations. The Truth about Boys and Girls brings up the point of are
boys really more aggressive and girls really more empathetic or do we just see what we expect in
them? (Eliot) This highlights how challenging it can be to consider yourself truly free when all of
these stereotypes are pinned on society. It seems impossible to choose what you really want when all
of these expectations are weighing on you. Parents also take away a lot of the freedom to choose as
well, Eliot address that parents reinforce play that is considered gender appropriate, especially in boys
(Eliot). Parents want what is best for their children and so they attempt to conform their children to
society to make it easier for them in the future. However, by doing that the parents take away the
freedom they have to choose who they are. Some examples of this is how as a society we

Corporate Social Responsibility And Corporate Ethics Essay
Corporate social responsibility has become a major issue in the recent past to the extent in which there
are watchdog organizations that monitor actions of corporations and file a report indicating companies
that aren t socially responsible. Such organizations are known as sustainability auditing firms
(Gallagher, 2012). This has made most of the companies that are growing to issue corporate social
responsibility reports alongside their annual business reports. Citigroup is a financial service company
that has been able to do this with other companies. In fact, it should be noted that Citigroup, Inc. is the
world s largest financial service corporations with a revenue base of over 130 billion dollars
(MacDonald, 2011). Citigroup, Inc. has appeared in the list of Forbes 100 and was been rated in 2007
as one of the most responsible top 50 companies. The company employs more than 300000 employees
today. Hence, this paper will look at the extent to which Citigroup, Inc. has put in place responsible
practices and corporate ethics and how they account for the influence of their stakeholder s actions
(Carroll Buchholtz, 2010).
The four components of Corporate Sustainability Model are: inputs, processes, outputs and the
outcomes. Basically, Citigroup, Inc. has incorporated their sustainability model to suit the four
components through initiatives such as supporting the need for curbing climate change, protection of
human rights and providing assistance to families facing

The Pleistocene Ice Ages
Throughout the Pleistocene ice ages, large areas of the earth were covered by vast ice sheets. Global
sea levels dropped up to 120 metres below present day coastlines, exposing large areas of land that
were once flooded by shallow seas. These lands became colonised by vegetation, animals, birds and
insects over time. During the Ice Age, the island continent to the south east of Asia comprised New
Guinea, Australia and Tasmania as a single land mass. Separating this continent from Asia was a
narrow sea about one hundred kilometres wide, over which the first ocean crossings were made
sometime before 60,000 years ago. These ancient mariners became the founding peoples of Australia.
They were faced with a strange land that was vastly different

Everyone is born with certain genetic predispositions. Then, in our early years, people begin
modelling our attitudes after those they admire, respect, or shape our attitudes and behaviours to align
with theirs. People also imitate the attitudes of popular individuals and those they admire and respect.
In organisation, attitudes are important because they affect job behaviour. If workers believe, for
example, that supervisors, auditors, bosses, and time and motion engineers are all in conspiracy to
make employees work harder for the same or less money, then it makes sense to try to understand how
these attitudes were formed, their relationship to actual job behaviour and how they might be

Drug Culture In The Other Wes Moore
In the 1960s, drug culture was popularized through music and mass media, in our current society we
still find this relevant. Although we are more knowledgeable about drugs and alcohol, an estimated
208 million people internationally consume illegal drugs. The question is why do we conform to a
society that is dependent on such substances? Perhaps drug culture is still present due to the references
we witness on a daily basis. Witnessing this has resulted in drugs being a constant norm in society, the
recently published novel, The Other Wes Moore; addresses drug culture. This novel actively
demonstrates the choices we make in our everyday life, resulting in consequences that ultimately
make or break our futures.

Nuclear Power And The Chernobyl Disaster
The Chernobyl Disaster was not meant to happen at all, what was supposed to happen was an
experiment to see if the reactor s own electrical needs could be supplied by a freewheeling turbine in
the event of a power outage, but the experiment did not go as it was planned. This experiment gone
wrong caused so much radiation sickness to the people, which lead to death by sickness, or death by
cancer. The people who lived ended up having children with many mutations and disabilities. The
Soviet Union wanted to hide the fact this never happened, so they released false information about the
disaster to the public not realizing the many after effects this would have on the world, the people and

The first part of the five basic parts to a nuclear reactor starts with the core which holds the Uranium
fuel. As there are many different types of reactors each core holds a different type of Uranium. For
some examples, a heavy water reactor uses natural Uranium, which 0.7% is Uranium 235, while light
water reactors use Uranium that has been enriched, so that Uranium 235 makes up around 3 5% of the
total. The next part of the reactor is the moderator, now the moderator is a light material such as water.
The water will allow the neutrons to be slowed down without being captured. The benefit of slowing
down these fast neutrons during fission is it can increase their efficiency by causing further fission.
Control Rods are made up of materials that can absorb neutrons, such as silver, boron, indium,
hafnium, or cadmium. These are introduced into the reactor to reduce the number of neutrons and thus
stop the fission process when required to stop. Another use of the rods is to control the level and
distribution of power in the reactor. Next part of the reactor is the coolant. The coolant is the fluid that
circulates through the reactor core. This absorbs and transfers heat that is produced by nuclear fission.
Also at the same time, it maintains the temperature of the fuel within the acceptable limits. The final
part the nuclear reactor is the

Witchcraft During Medieval Times
During medieval times, there was a constant uproar when it came to difference in religions, as leaders
preferred there be one sacred religion, Christianity. Around the 15th century, leading into the 16th
century, in European countries, such as Germany and surrounding providences, witchcraft became the
new practice, which was frowned upon. Anyone accused of being a witch, could not receive a fair
trial, as they were persecuted, tricked into confession, humiliated, inhumanly tortured, and put to death
by the numbers.
Witchcraft was known, as a practice, in which, one would give themselves, over to the devil; in return,
sorcery would be gained (Witchcraft Documents [15th Century], 1996). Due to fear, and the
misunderstandings, of natural disasters, witches were said, to be the cause of a multitude of events.
Uneducated, about the scientific reasoning, behind; miscarriages, the destruction of crops, any
lifeform that had perished, in addition, to any other mishap; inevitably, witchcraft would be to blame
(Witchcraft Documents [15th Century], 1996). In an attempt, to preserve Catholicism, Pope Innocent
VIII, supported, the persecution of witches.
The excerpt Innocent VIII: BULL Summis desiderantes, Dec. 5th, 1484, is a memoriam, listing desires
and requirements, as to how witches convicted, should be hunted and put on trial (Witchcraft

The Internet And The Future Of The Internet
The Internet has revolutionized how people interact with each other on a daily basis. Before the
Internet permeated our lives, staying connected to friends and family was difficult and costly.
However, today, staying connected is easy and accessible (O Dell, 2011). The way we communicate
changed when the first e mail was sent in 1971 (O Dell, 2011; Borges, 2012; Kaplan Haenlein, 2010).
When the Internet was launched in 1978, the Bulletin Board System (BBS) was invented to allow
users to exchange messages, data, news, and software (Bennett, 2012; Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). In
1979, two individuals created Usenet, a worldwide discussion system that allowed users to post public
messages (O Dell, 2011; Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). The 1980s witnessed the introduction of online
service providers such as Compuserve, Prodigy, and America Online (AOL) (Curtis, 2011). By 1989,
British engineer Tim Berners Lee had begun to work at CERN on what was to become the World
Wide Web (Borges, 2012; Curtis, 2011).
In the 1990s, the Mosaic web browser was launched, GeoCities, one of the Web s first social
networking sites, was founded, and personal home pages began to emerge (O Dell, 2011; Bennett,
2012; Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). The year 1995 marked the era of corporate web pages and e commerce
(Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). Thus, it is no surprise that the current trend toward social media can be
traced back to the Internet s roots, since social media has transformed the World Wide Web from web
sites that provided static information to web sites that allow information exchange between users
(Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). The social media era dates back to 1998, when Bruce and Susan Abelson
founded Open Diary, an early social networking site that brought online diary writers together in a
single community (Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). The technical advances and the growing availability of
high speed Internet access over the past 30 years have enabled a form of virtual content sharing,
leading to the creation of social networking sites such as MySpace in 2003 and Facebook in 2004 that
are fundamentally different and more powerful than the Bulletin Board System (BBS) of the late
1970s (Borges, 2012; Curtis, 2011; Kaplan Haenlein, 2010).

demand. Education on nutrition is more widely available, affordable, and understandable. More and
more people seek healthier choices in dietary regimes in order to achieve a healthier lifestyle and stave

factors. Thompson makes it clear that Whole Foods Market must work to keep up with the
advancements in technology that are rapidly cropping up in the food production industry. They ve
done well to adopt green energy, but Thompson believes they must do more to build more automated
services for inventory and delivery, cutting down on certain types of manual labor jobs and creating
more tech based jobs, and ultimately leading to improved reliability and efficiency of their company
as a whole. The main ecological factor that impacts Whole Foods Market is climate change. Climate

Cleopatra s father was King Ptolemy XII. Little is known about Cleopatra s mother, but some
speculation presumes she may have been her father s sister, Cleopatra V Tryphaena. Debate also
surrounds Cleopatra s ethnicity. While it was believed for a long time that she was of Greek descent,
some speculate that her lineage may have been black African.
In 51 B.C., Ptolemy XII died, leaving the throne to 18 year old Cleopatra and her brother, the 10 year
old Ptolemy XIII. It is likely that the two siblings married, as was customary at the time. Over the next
few years Egypt struggled to face down a number of issues, from an unhealthy economy to floods to
famine.
Political turmoil also shaped this period. Soon after they assumed power, complications arose between
Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIII. Eventually Cleopatra fled to Syria, where she assembled an army to
defeat her rival in order to declare the throne for herself. In 48, she returned to Egypt with her military
might and faced her brother at Pelusium, located on the empire s eastern edge. Most of what we know
about Cleopatra was written after her death when it was politically expedient to portray her as a threat
to Rome and its stability. Thus, some of what we know about Cleopatra may have been exaggerated or
misrepresented by those sources. Cassius Dio, one of the ancient sources that tells her story,
summarizes her story as She captivated the two greatest Romans of her day, and

aligned countries that claimed to operate separately from the influences of the great powers. The
movement represented the emergence of the Third World as a self conscious political grouping.
Solidarity was predicated upon common economic structures that were distinctive from both the
Eastern block planned economies and the Western free market system (Smith, n.d: 17). The Third
World as a political project was intrinsically linked to decolonization. Developing nations were
encouraged to stand against Western intervention and involvement in the economic affairs of the Third
World (Smith, n.d: 17). In addition, the project aimed to establish a new international economic order
in which developing countries would have greater control over their own natural resources (Smith,
n.d: 18). It also called for more cooperation in the third world in order to lessen their dependence on
leading institutional forums. As one of the most influential proponents of the Third World Project,
Jawaharlal Nehru specifically worked to promote ideas of global interconnectedness, world peace and
non alignment. Yet despite efforts to uplift the Third World from its peripheral status, evidence of
Western superiority discourse was still present in the language used by Nehru and other elites.
Furthermore, while elites championed Third World principles in word, they generally remained tied to

Spread of Buddhism in China
Buddhism arrived in China by the first century C.E. by way of the Silk Road. Initially, the spread of
Buddhism was met with positivity, but as the centuries passed, the Chinese began to view it in a
negative light. Additionally, during a period of disunity and political instability, the Chinese peasants
welcomed Buddhism, but as Buddhism became more popular, Chinese aristocracy and government
saw it as a threat to their power and moved to discredit its movement. Documents 1, 2, and 5
positively supported the spread of Buddhism, and Documents 4 and 6 negatively viewed the spread of
Buddhism. The change in attitude corresponding to the spread of Buddhism is presented with
Documents 1, 2, and 3, which initially support Buddhism, and Documents 4, 5, and 6, which shows
the changing opinions on Buddhism. It would be beneficial to see additional documents written by a
peasant in order to show the contrast between elite responses and their motives for choosing a foreign
religion over the traditional Confucianism. Another helpful document would be a response from a
woman because it would be useful to know the reasons a woman in Chinese society would choose
Buddhism and their perspective as opposed to the point of view of men. Documents 1, 2, and 5
positively support the spread of Buddhism in China. Document 1 is written by the Buddha himself,
and lays down the basic principles followed by all Buddhists. It shows that by eliminating cravings,
sorrow would stop. Nevertheless, it is

Social Media And Satire
Why exactly has technology had a bad impact on the world when it was originally created to make
everything easier? It s simple: Because of social media and websites creating safe havens for hatred.
Social media is one of the biggest culprits to this, especially when it can be a catalyst to conflict in the
real world. A person I don t know tried to follow me on Instagram. says Saru Daway, a freshman. I
didn t accept his follow request, and he started to get aggressive. He asked me out, and I refused. I told
him to stop texting me, but he continued to insult me. The definition of cyberbullying is the use of
electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or

Perfect Three Point Basketball Shot
In looking at what would produce the perfect three point basketball shot, there were three areas that
were explored. Using some advanced technology, this study examined the release time, entry angle
and rotation of the ball. All of these techniques are essential to shooting success. Dobovicnik L., et al.,
stated (2015) In modern day basketball it is important to deliver a quick and efficient shot. Besides the
length of the throw, the shooting time also depends on speed (p. 5). The players were put through a
series of three point shots. Using a ball that had internal monitors, data was monitored from the ball to
a computer where the final statistics were tabulated. The data that collected was release time in

Mikhail Gorbachev Decade
I think that Mikhail Gorbachev should be Person of the Decade. Mikhail Gorbachev was born on
March 2, 1931 into a Russian Ukrainian family in Privolnoye, Russia. His father, Sergei, and mother
Maria were both peasants. After three years in the Russian Army Mikhail s father returned wounded
and ended up passing down his experience as a combine harvester to Mikhail, which he showed a
natural ability at. As Mikhail reached his teenage years, he helped out his family by working at a
machine stated driving tractors. Once he reached the age of 17 he was known as the youngest person
to win the Order of the Red Banner for Labor. What the Order of the Red Banner for Labor meant was

Under the badge of democratization, restructuring has now encompassed politics, the economy,
spiritual life, and ideology. Both Regan and Gorbachev struggled to get along with one another as well
as agreeing on the development of a Strategic Defense Initiative. Reagan wanted this, while on the
other side, Mikhail did not. When it came down to it Gorbachev ended up agreeing with Reagan in the
year of 1987, making it the first ever mutual agreement on nuclear weapons reduction. With
everything he was doing Mikhail ended up becoming the first president of the Soviet Union on March
15, 1990 with election coming from the Congress of People s Duties. His leadership skills and his help
he contributed to the overall betterment of the world were so good that he ended up winning a Nobel

Historical Events that Impacted Contact Improvisation...
Historical Events that Impacted Contact Improvisation
Dance has evolved greatly throughout the centuries. It began with ballet and has led up to contact
improvisation. This form of dance begun in the early 1970 s and was started by a man named Steve
Paxton and a group of postmodern dancers from New York City. Contact improvisation is a partnering
form of dance and known as the art of moving spontaneously with a group or another person. This
form of dance does not require the exact set of traditional skills of other dance form, it doesn t have a
technique that could be studied, and it is practiced in order to accomplish the highest potential.

Although the Watergate Scandal was an important event during this time period I don t think it greatly
affected contact improvisation.
Another important historical event that occurred during this time period was the end of the Cold War.
In 1975, under President Gerald Ford the US joined the USSR and thirty three other countries to sign
the Helsinki Accords that each member of nations vowed to respect human rights and boundaries. I
think the whole end of the Cold War greatly affected this dance. I think by using contact improvisation
it sort of represented people s feelings better by being able to interact with each other. So by using
contact improvisation I think the dancers were able to get their point across to the audience better.
Therefore, the end of the Cold War was probably very important for contact improvisation and
expressing yourself.
Finally, the Vietnam War was another important historical event going on in the 1970s. When Nixon
was president he sent American troop strength in Vietnam. He also set up a program of
Vietnamization, which was decreasing the number of U.S. troops, offering only advice and assistance.
The U.S. troops eventually returned from Vietnam but the U.S. did not stop with its involvement in
Vietnam. Nixon then extended the war into Laos and Cambodia, there is secretly authorized bombing

Cellobiase produced more product when placed at the right temperature and pH. These experiment
also showed how the simplest change in any environmental factor could cause a change in function of
the enzyme. This experiment was a good source to show the effects of environment on enzyme
activity. The amount of product produce could be monitored by the amount of p nitrophenol present,
which couldn t be done with using Cellobiose. Factor that could have been improved would have been
testing the rate of reaction at a longer time then 2 minutes and at more enzyme/substrate
concentrations. The data produce from the enzyme and substrate concentration parts never showed
where the reaction reached Vmax. The most important factor of this experiment was the ability to use
the artificial substrate, it allowed the experimenter to visual see before measuring the absorbance if

enzyme activity because in every experiment as the concentration of product (p nitrophenol and

The Famous Chicago Style Hot Dogs
In United States, the hotdog is as American as apple pie; however, the sausages were culturally
imported from Germany, called Frankfurters and eventually popularized and renamed ,hotdog, in the
U.S. In Chicago, there s a specialty hotdog that almost all Chicagoans and tourist eat. It s so special
that there are over thousand made in small food stands throughout Chicago. On February 8th, 2014, I
went to Donald s Famous Hotdogs in Chicago Illinois. Donald s is a small diner serving soup,
sandwiches, and hotdogs. I ordered the best item on the menu, the Chicago style hotdog. The Chicago
style hotdog stands out from the rest because it s delicious flavor, colorful presentation and variety of
condiments.
What separates Donald s Chicago style the other Chicago style hotdog is not the topping but the
fundamental idea of hot dog, the sausage. There are two types of hotdog sausages, wieners which tend
to contain pork and chicken or turkey. Theses sausages are inexpensive but lack in flavor while
frankfurters or franks tend to more expensive, nevertheless are all beef and strongly seasoned. Equally
important is the hotdog s casing. Traditional casing is made from the small intestines of sheep; it s
known as natural casing franks. These sausages have firm texture and have a signature snap that
releases its juicy flavor when bitten. Donald s Chicago style hotdog is served with an all beef frank
which adds to taste overall. The recognizable curved shape of the hotdog is

It teaches you different ways to summarize things such as playing the believing game , which is
basically where you write a summary of something that you have read. An example of this would be

you to put yourself in the person you are summarizing s shoes and doing that requires you to know
your topic well. It also states that you should always know where you are headed with your summary.
They also say you should use signal verbs for making a claim or getting your point across. Here is an
example of me playing the believing game, by summarizing why my friend would like video games.
X likes video games because he thinks they are very fun. He enjoys them because of the cool graphics,
the sound effects and the game content. He states that getting to watch a story go by in a video game

Knowledge and Understanding 1. As it is quite obvious in the story, the narrator does not think that
these men and women deserve to die. This is abundant when in the very last line of the story the
narrator states, when will it be light? 2. Throughout the story, the narrator describes the communists as
young, brave and handsome, although they are powerless martyrs. The narrator makes the nationalist
seem murderous looking, and cunning, malicious and smug. The chief executioner has a revolting

Not only of his death, but also by showing her passion for her beliefs. 6. A major theme in the story is
to stand your ground, and fight for what you believe in. In other words, be willing to die for what you
stand for, but proudly. Another theme is showing the absolute cruelty of humans. It is showing the
brutal behaviors humans can portray on one another.
Thinking and Inquiry 1. The tone of this story is dark and bitter. Ting Ling achieves this in the
characters emotions throughout the story. This is also shown through imagery, through the gloomy
vibe of the story. Ting Ling used figurative language and vivid descriptions to make the story come
across as both bitter and dark. 2. The setting of the story contributes to the tone because it is set up
during a dark, cold, windy, snowy night. The overall mood of the story was both gloomy and somber,
which contributes to the tone I think Ting Ling was going for. Everything from the prisoners falling
down in the snow, to the soldiers stomping throughout it, made the tone come alive through the text. 3.
There are many different symbols throughout the story. For the chief executioner, he resembles both
cruelty and oppression whereas the young poet symbolizes innocence and better reform. At the end
when the prisoners are singing to their death, it shows a sense of resistance, which symbolizes the
acceptance of their death. 4. The sound of trampling feet connotes punishment as a

Samurai Warrior
The samurai of Japan were a very loyal and honorable people. In ancient times the samurai s lives
were filled with discipline and intense training. The warriors were always ready for war or an attack,
for they had developed a sixth sense. The samurai were important in history for their swords and art.
First of all, the samurai s katana, long sword was crucial to their lives because it was their main form
of protection and also because of its cultural value. It states in trueswords.com, the samurai s katana
was his primary source of self defence. The samurai s swords were essential in their lives because, as
the combatants of Japan, the samurai never knew when they could be attacked and the warriors needed
some way to defend themselves from enemies. Also according to ... Show more content on

Their art was a form of perfection that has been admired even today. Two of their several perfections
are their poems and their tea ceremonies. In a samurai rap named Samurai Warrior rap (Bloom, 2013)
stated, Five, seven, five were the haiku syllables... This is explaining how their poems called haikus
and the structure of the haikus were made in the syllables five, seven, and the five again. Even though
they were short poems they would be very beautiful or they would link two or three haikus together. In
the poems it used sensory details and certain descriptions to match a certain setting. They were one of
the most excellent perfections of the samurai. They are also specialized in tea ceremonies which were
used in many different ways to do certain things. (Bloom,2013) stated ...yet tea ceremonies was
important for alliance, samurai needed to insure good compliance... This means that they would
perform this ritual and if they passed they would make an alliance. They needed to insure good
compliance in order to pass the ritual. In other words if they followed the rules they would pass the
ritual. These two forms of art are still valued

Soviet Family Code and Women
Reproductive rights and daycare became capital in soviet society as more and more women were
entering the workforce and receiving an education. The direct influence of the early Soviet Rule on
women s employment was modest as the foundations for the professionalization of women had been
laid on decades before the October 1917 Revolution. Furthermore, the two World Wars greatly
impacted women employment by opening up new fields for them.
The Industrial Revolution of the end of the nineteenth century marked the first massive entry of
women in the industrial workforce. Indeed, they provided an inexpensive supply of unskilled labor
(Lapidus 1978). Women primarily worked in the industry, with an emphasis on textile and garments
which were respectively 68% and 80% women dominated fields in 1932, (Heitlinger 1979). Women
also represented the majority of education, sciences and scientifical services employees, representing
between 54% and 58% of the labor force between 1929 and 1940 (Sacks 1977). World War I by
draining young able bodied men emptied factories and gave the opportunity to women to access male
dominated fields ( from 26.6 percent of the workforce in 1914, the proportion of women in the
industry as a whole rose to 43.2% by 1917 (Engel 2004)).
The predominance of women in education can be explained by the dramatic increase of access to
education for women between the end of the nineteenth century and 1917. Before the Revolution,
education was gender segregated.

Hiroshima
In urban morphology, the urban environment acts a palimpsest for urban forms. On a palimpsest,
words are transcribed onto a surface, used, then erased and replaced as the palimpsest was needed to
record other information. In the same manner, urban forms are constructed in the urban environment,
then gradually torn down and replaced as society develops new needs from the urban. However,
Hiroshima is a much different urban morphological story than most cities. On August 6th, 1945, the
Little Boy atomic bomb was dropped aiming towards the t shaped Aioi Bridge near the center of the
city (Hein, et al. 88). In an instant, the urban environment of Hiroshima is erased, possibly faster than
the speed of what it would take to wipe a literal palimpsest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hiroshima plans to pay homage to the tragedy through the construction of a Memorial Hall for A
Bomb Victims, but it appears the city is mainly trying to rebuild in a functional capacity, as evident by
the sparsity of elite buildings within the entire blast zone. Hiroshima plans to have a running post
office, city hall, chamber of commerce and industry, hospital, and college of chamber and commerce.
The few non essential built forms they plan for are a broadcasting station, newspaper press, and
department store, but even these non essential built forms do not suggest luxury beyond a functional
level. The city also plans to reconnect the islands of its river delta city through the reparation of
bridges, most of which were ruined in the blast, yet leave much open area in places where buildings
were reduced to rubble, as if to commemorate the old city by not rebuilding heavily damaged

Analyzing The Story Who Will Light Incense When Mothers...
In the story Who Will Light Incense When Mothers Gone? the author has created multiple themes or
ways to interpret the purpose behind the story. Lam says, She turns 70 but she remains a vivacious
woman her hair is still mostly black, there is still a girlish twang in her laughter, and her eyes twinkle
at the telling of a joke (Lam). The way the author speaks about Mrs. Lam, using such vivid language
shows that he takes time to appreciate the person she is and how she lights the room up. Showing so
much attention to detail about someone can really show the love towards one another, thus allowing
filial love to be an alternative theme of the story. Filial love is a love from a child to his or her parents,
in this case Andrew Lam is speaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vietnam is very much relevant to this story because of the fact that Lam s mother brings over
Vietnamese traditions in hope that her children will continue to carry on their her legacy. According to
the who will light incense when mothers gone? , Lam create the idea of Vietnams identity by saying,
mumbles solemn prayers to the spirits of our dead ancestors, and to the all compassionate Buddha.
Here he is explaining a Vietnam tradition his mother practiced as a daily routine, asking for protection
of her children and that they shall thrive in America. Between the family moving to America and the
mother asking of her God for her kids to prosper in America, this tells readers that the education
system or dreams for a good career probably are not as advantageous as the opportunities in America.
One of the biggest challenges in the Vietnam school system is that if a student has a question about
something, they are not allowed to address the instructor unless called upon. If the student never gets
called upon the student must than go back through the notes they took during class and find the
answer. But what if the notes were not written down correctly? Than that student has just answered the
question on the next test incorrectly because of inadequate communication of the school system. How
is a Vietnam student supposed to have a reasonable career if the countries school system is failing
them. However, just as the Lam family has done, moving to America will allow a strong and more
improved education for a levelheaded career. This is also known to be considered the American Dream
way of

The Roles Of Male And Women In The Victorian Era
In today s era both males and females being seen as equals is a widely accepted belief; however, in the
Victorian era this thought would be laugh at. In fact, men were viewed far more superior to women.
Where as, the men were put on a pedestal the women seemed to have little to no use. Although,
women only had a few tasks to accomplish in life, what she was tasked with was highly expected of
her. These were things such as do not be a burden, act as expected, marry well, and have a son.
In the beginning, of a girls life if she had hope to live the average life span she would have to beat the
unruly high death rates for females. Despite the fact that all children, in any social classes, were a
mouth to be fed, they were still a potential source to help the family prosper. This however, did not
stop parents from malnourishing their daughters so their sons may live or giving far less access to
many essentials, such as clean bathing water. This lead to the daughters also being prone to infections.
If that or other accidents did not kill the girls; however, some time the families would result to outright
killing their own daughters. On the other hand if the girls lived through their early years they would be
groomed for something specific in life. It was more often than not up to their parents to decide what
they would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Is Love Presented In Plato s Symposium
The view of love presented in Plato s Symposium is not a very positive one to a modern reader;
although some of its eulogies can appeal to various emotions or make sense logically, they fail to
present love in a way that is both humane and sends a positive message. While Aristophanes eulogy
depicts humans as inherently flawed and lacking independence, Socrates logic based definition takes
away the emotion and humanity from love and leaves readers with an unappealing image of love that
leaves little to no room for mystery, curiosity, and pure emotion. One of the most famous eulogies
delivered in the Symposium is delivered by Aristophanes in the form of a myth; he states that long
ago, people lived in conjoined pairs with two faces, four arms, ... Show more content on

While it may be logical for Socrates to reject Alcibiades advances on grounds of exchanging bronze
for gold (219A), it is very unappealing and inhumane to see a potential relationship forsaken simply
because it is not a fair transaction . Alcibiades appears to be showing a real emotional connection to
Socrates, but he is simply not given a chance due to Socrates view on what love should be. This is
especially unappealing because oftentimes, we do not even try to comprehend the logic or reasoning
as to why we love someone or something; we simply acknowledge that there is an emotional
connection that sometimes cannot be fully explained based on transactional value. Socrates definition
also completely eliminates any mystery or curiosity about love in the eyes of the reader; such a logical
and transactional analysis presents love as a formula that can be easily determined and explained.
However, that is simply not the reality. Love has always been an incredibly tantalizing subject for one
reason it is mysterious. People can seem to fall in love with each other in the blink of an eye, or a
loving relationship could take years of friendship to finally develop. Essentially, it is extremely
difficult to pinpoint exactly why we love someone or something,

  • 2. An Article On The Missing Link Of Success The Missing Link #4: Productivity By Kyre Adept Nov 14, 2012 Are you feeling stuck or paralyzed in your life or business? Do you spend way too much time on the internet, reading your email, drinking coffee or the equivalent because you just can t focus on work? The fact is that many people are slackers and drifters, with mediocre lives... The good news is that in the teleconference series on The Missing Link to Success, we look at the five components that I have found are central to creating a prosperous life. Here s the formula: PASSION + PURPOSE + POSITION + PRODUCTIVITY + PEACE OF MIND = PROSPERITY As well as the article called The Missing Link to Success, which provides an overview of the whole series, there is an article for each of these Five Ps , so look for them wherever you found this article! I m going to assume you ve read the summary article plus the articles on Passion, Purpose and Position, because each components builds on the previous ones. Once you have reset the first three Ps, you are ready to improve your capacity to be PRODUCTIVE. What does this mean? Why is it important to be productive? The main dictionary definition of productive is: yielding favorable or useful results; being constructive; effective in achieving specified results. (There are also specialized meanings in economics, medicine and linguistics, but the main meanings will do.) In work terms, productivity means being able to focus on your assigned (or assumed) tasks, and to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Stock Options Many years ago stock options were rarely used as incidental benefits for top executives. Nowadays, compensating employee whit stock options has become an increasingly common practice. Before the year 1996, only the intrinsic value method was used to record these transactions. This method distorted the issuer s reported financial condition and results of operations, which could lead to inappropriate decisions taken by investors. Followed by the increased use of employee stock options and the surrounding controversy of its recording method, on the year 1996 the fair value method was introduced to be used as an alternative to the intrinsic method and on 2004 the intrinsic value method was completely discontinued. The Fair value method ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fair value of an option grant ideally would be based on the observable market price of the option or of one with similar terms and conditions. As the market price is not usually observable, fair value measurement techniques use option pricing models such as a Black Scholes model, a Monte Carlo simulation technique, or a lattice model to determine a fair value of an option that is, one that accounts for factors such as the stock price at the grant date, the strike price, the expected life of the option (that is, the expected period of time between the grant date and the exercise date), the volatility of the underlying stock and the expected dividends on it, and the risk free interest rate over the expected life of the option. Assuming that the fair value option pricing model determines the company s total compensation expense to be $300,000, then this company will expense $100,000 each of the following three years. The 2004 requirement eliminated the use of the intrinsic value based method and thus addressed users and other parties concerns of financial statements distortions by requiring an entity to recognize the cost of employee services received in share based payment transactions, thereby reflecting the economic consequences of those transactions in the financial statements. By requiring the fair value method for all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Parenting Styles Essay When my first child was born I there was considerable interest in Mozart CDs. These Cd s were marketed with the promise that playing them would enrich the intellectual and creative development of my child. Behind the popularity of selling products on such an idea is an unfortunate theme: Parenting can be done quickly and with little inconvenience. The reality is that good parenting does not require classical music, but instead time and effort. As children grow from infancy into adolescence the role of parenting broadens. How parents react to their child s actions communicates a standard of appropriate and inappropriate behavior that are fulfilled with varying degrees of conscious awareness. There are two major dimensions that underline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What are the differences between children who have parents that show little affection when compared to those who liberally hug and kiss? Does it matter if some parents are strict while others are lax? Does it make a difference if some parents spank their children while others go on in seemingly endlessly discussions? As my son once said to his older brother, Just say you understand so he ll shut up. Diana Baumrind (1966, 1967, 1978) decided to find out the answers to those questions by determining what effect parenting styles, as interactions between the two dimensions of parental acceptance and control, had on children s social and intellectual competence. To start with, Baumrind identified four distinct parenting styles: neglectful, permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative. Neglectful parenting is a style in which the parent is very uninvolved in the child s life. These parents seem to focus more on their own lives and are not particularly involved with or supportive of their children. They appear to be detached from the child and provide only for their basic physical and emotional needs and not much else. They offer little or no help with homework, provide minimal supervision, and spend little time together. Permissive (or indulgent) parents are responsive and accepting. They make few demands of their children, indulge their children s desires, and use little punishment. They allow their children free expression of impulses and set few ... • 6. Gender Stereotypes In Media As much as I hate to admit it, I do think media has an affect on how I interact with others. Media influences me to have a lot of presumptions regarding both males and females, but I found that I have more presumptions of males. The thought that all men should be strong is one example I have. Growing up, I watched a lot of Disney movies and in those movies there was always a Prince that would come and rescue the Princess. Those Disney movies made me believe that all men should be strong. Therefore, whenever I used to see a friend, who was a guy, look kind of weak, I would tell him that he should start working out, even though I should have realized and accepted that every man is different. Like the video Codes of Gender said, men are portrayed as emotionless in the media. The media also made me assume that it was weird if a man showed sadness. When I did see a guy show that he was sad, to the point where he might have even cried, I became slightly uncomfortable. I have only recently accepted that it is okay for a man to cry. Media, especially in movies, tend to portray men as dominant over women, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Mardi Gras History The phrase Laissez les bons temps rouler! which means let the good times roll in French, is one of the most popular sayings during Mardi Gras. This holiday is celebrated differently all across Louisiana. There are a variety of celebrations including parades and balls. Many historians believe that the first American Mardi Gras took place on March 3, 1699, when the French explorers Iberville and Bienville landed in what is now Louisiana, just south of the holiday s future epicenter: New Orleans. They held a small celebration and dubbed the spot Point du Mardi Gras. In the decades that followed, New Orleans and other French settlements began marking the holiday with street parties, masked balls and lavish dinners. When the Spanish took control of New Orleans, however, they abolished these rowdy rituals, and the bans remained in force until Louisiana became a U.S. state in 1812. Body of Research The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced to medieval Europe, passing through Rome and Venice in the 17th and 18th centuries to the French House of the Bourbons. From here, the traditional revelry of Boeuf Gras, or fatted calf, followed France to her colonies. On March 2, 1699, French Canadian explorer Jean Baptiste Le Moyne Sieur de Bienville arrived at a plot of ground 60 miles directly south of New Orleans, and named it Pointe du Mardi Gras when his men realized it was the eve of the festive holiday. Bienville also established Fort Louis de la Louisiane (which is now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Truth About Boys And Girls Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. America is supposed to be considered the land of the free. In the constitution it says people have the freedom of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Then why are gays afraid to come out, and why are females forced into sex trafficking? There are limitations on our freedom. Both speaker Chris Baker, and the article The Truth about Boys and Girls demonstrate how society s influence puts limitations on people s freedom. Stereotypes and generalizations about boys and girls is an example of how people have freedom with limitations. The Truth about Boys and Girls brings up the point of are boys really more aggressive and girls really more empathetic or do we just see what we expect in them? (Eliot) This highlights how challenging it can be to consider yourself truly free when all of these stereotypes are pinned on society. It seems impossible to choose what you really want when all of these expectations are weighing on you. Parents also take away a lot of the freedom to choose as well, Eliot address that parents reinforce play that is considered gender appropriate, especially in boys (Eliot). Parents want what is best for their children and so they attempt to conform their children to society to make it easier for them in the future. However, by doing that the parents take away the freedom they have to choose who they are. Some examples of this is how as a society we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Corporate Social Responsibility And Corporate Ethics Essay Corporate social responsibility has become a major issue in the recent past to the extent in which there are watchdog organizations that monitor actions of corporations and file a report indicating companies that aren t socially responsible. Such organizations are known as sustainability auditing firms (Gallagher, 2012). This has made most of the companies that are growing to issue corporate social responsibility reports alongside their annual business reports. Citigroup is a financial service company that has been able to do this with other companies. In fact, it should be noted that Citigroup, Inc. is the world s largest financial service corporations with a revenue base of over 130 billion dollars (MacDonald, 2011). Citigroup, Inc. has appeared in the list of Forbes 100 and was been rated in 2007 as one of the most responsible top 50 companies. The company employs more than 300000 employees today. Hence, this paper will look at the extent to which Citigroup, Inc. has put in place responsible practices and corporate ethics and how they account for the influence of their stakeholder s actions (Carroll Buchholtz, 2010). The four components of Corporate Sustainability Model are: inputs, processes, outputs and the outcomes. Global sea levels dropped up to 120 metres below present day coastlines, exposing large areas of land that were once flooded by shallow seas. During the Ice Age, the island continent to the south east of Asia comprised New Guinea, Australia and Tasmania as a single land mass. This experiment gone wrong caused so much radiation sickness to the people, which lead to death by sickness, or death by cancer. As there are many different types of reactors each core holds a different type of Uranium. For some examples, a heavy water reactor uses natural Uranium, which 0.7% is Uranium 235, while light water reactors use Uranium that has been enriched, so that Uranium 235 makes up around 3 5% of the total. The next part of the reactor is the moderator, now the moderator is a light material such as water. The water will allow the neutrons to be slowed down without being captured. The benefit of slowing down these fast neutrons during fission is it can increase their efficiency by causing further fission. Control Rods are made up of materials that can absorb neutrons, such as silver, boron, indium, hafnium, or cadmium. These are introduced into the reactor to reduce the number of neutrons and thus stop the fission process when required to stop. Another use of the rods is to control the level and distribution of power in the reactor. Next part of the reactor is the coolant. The coolant is the fluid that circulates through the reactor core. This absorbs and transfers heat that is produced by nuclear fission. Also at the same time, it maintains the temperature of the fuel within the acceptable limits. • 16. Witchcraft During Medieval Times During medieval times, there was a constant uproar when it came to difference in religions, as leaders preferred there be one sacred religion, Christianity. Around the 15th century, leading into the 16th century, in European countries, such as Germany and surrounding providences, witchcraft became the new practice, which was frowned upon. Anyone accused of being a witch, could not receive a fair trial, as they were persecuted, tricked into confession, humiliated, inhumanly tortured, and put to death by the numbers. Witchcraft was known, as a practice, in which, one would give themselves, over to the devil; in return, sorcery would be gained (Witchcraft Documents [15th Century], 1996). Due to fear, and the misunderstandings, of natural disasters, witches were said, to be the cause of a multitude of events. Uneducated, about the scientific reasoning, behind; miscarriages, the destruction of crops, any lifeform that had perished, in addition, to any other mishap; inevitably, witchcraft would be to blame (Witchcraft Documents [15th Century], 1996). In an attempt, to preserve Catholicism, Pope Innocent VIII, supported, the persecution of witches. The excerpt Innocent VIII: BULL Summis desiderantes, Dec. 5th, 1484, is a memoriam, listing desires and requirements, as to how witches convicted, should be hunted and put on trial (Witchcraft Documents [15th Century], 1996). • 17. The Internet And The Future Of The Internet The Internet has revolutionized how people interact with each other on a daily basis. Before the Internet permeated our lives, staying connected to friends and family was difficult and costly. However, today, staying connected is easy and accessible (O Dell, 2011). The way we communicate changed when the first e mail was sent in 1971 (O Dell, 2011; Borges, 2012; Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). When the Internet was launched in 1978, the Bulletin Board System (BBS) was invented to allow users to exchange messages, data, news, and software (Bennett, 2012; Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). In 1979, two individuals created Usenet, a worldwide discussion system that allowed users to post public messages (O Dell, 2011; Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). The 1980s witnessed the introduction of online service providers such as Compuserve, Prodigy, and America Online (AOL) (Curtis, 2011). By 1989, British engineer Tim Berners Lee had begun to work at CERN on what was to become the World Wide Web (Borges, 2012; Curtis, 2011). In the 1990s, the Mosaic web browser was launched, GeoCities, one of the Web s first social networking sites, was founded, and personal home pages began to emerge (O Dell, 2011; Bennett, 2012; Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). The year 1995 marked the era of corporate web pages and e commerce (Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). Thus, it is no surprise that the current trend toward social media can be traced back to the Internet s roots, since social media has transformed the World Wide Web from web sites that provided static information to web sites that allow information exchange between users (Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). The social media era dates back to 1998, when Bruce and Susan Abelson founded Open Diary, an early social networking site that brought online diary writers together in a single community (Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). The technical advances and the growing availability of high speed Internet access over the past 30 years have enabled a form of virtual content sharing, leading to the creation of social networking sites such as MySpace in 2003 and Facebook in 2004 that are fundamentally different and more powerful than the Bulletin Board System (BBS) of the late 1970s (Borges, 2012; Curtis, 2011; Kaplan Haenlein, 2010). ... There are also technological and ecological factors. Thompson makes it clear that Whole Foods Market must work to keep up with the advancements in technology that are rapidly cropping up in the food production industry. They ve done well to adopt green energy, but Thompson believes they must do more to build more automated services for inventory and delivery, cutting down on certain types of manual labor jobs and creating more tech based jobs, and ultimately leading to improved reliability and efficiency of their company as a whole. Cleopatra, Last Pharaoh of Egypt. As queen of Egypt, Cleopatra is one of the most famous female rulers in history. Cleopatra s family ruled Eygpt for more than 100 years before she was born around 69 BC. Empress Wu Zetian of Tang Dynasty. Little is known about Cleopatra s mother, but some speculation presumes she may have been her father s sister, Cleopatra V Tryphaena. Debate also surrounds Cleopatra s ethnicity. While it was believed for a long time that she was of Greek descent, some speculate that her lineage may have been black African. In 51 B.C., Ptolemy XII died, leaving the throne to 18 year old Cleopatra and her brother, the 10 year old Ptolemy XIII. It is likely that the two siblings married, as was customary at the time. Over the next few years Egypt struggled to face down a number of issues, from an unhealthy economy to floods to famine. Political turmoil also shaped this period. Soon after they assumed power, complications arose between Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIII. Eventually Cleopatra fled to Syria, where she assembled an army to defeat her rival in order to declare the throne for herself. In 48, she returned to Egypt with her military might and faced her brother at Pelusium, located on the empire s eastern edge. Most of what we know about Cleopatra was written after her death when it was politically expedient to portray her as a threat to Rome and its stability. Thus, some of what we know about Cleopatra may have been exaggerated or misrepresented by those sources. Cassius Dio, one of the ancient sources that tells her story, summarizes her story as She captivated the two greatest Romans of her day, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. The World Of The Third World The Third World as a political project emerged out of Cold War rhetoric. It referred to a group of non aligned countries that claimed to operate separately from the influences of the great powers. The movement represented the emergence of the Third World as a self conscious political grouping. Solidarity was predicated upon common economic structures that were distinctive from both the Eastern block planned economies and the Western free market system (Smith, n.d: 17). The Third World as a political project was intrinsically linked to decolonization. Developing nations were encouraged to stand against Western intervention and involvement in the economic affairs of the Third World (Smith, n.d: 17). In addition, the project aimed to establish a new international economic order in which developing countries would have greater control over their own natural resources (Smith, n.d: 18). It also called for more cooperation in the third world in order to lessen their dependence on leading institutional forums. As one of the most influential proponents of the Third World Project, Jawaharlal Nehru specifically worked to promote ideas of global interconnectedness, world peace and non alignment. Yet despite efforts to uplift the Third World from its peripheral status, evidence of Western superiority discourse was still present in the language used by Nehru and other elites. The change in attitude corresponding to the spread of Buddhism is presented with Documents 1, 2, and 3, which initially support Buddhism, and Documents 4, 5, and 6, which shows the changing opinions on Buddhism. It would be beneficial to see additional documents written by a peasant in order to show the contrast between elite responses and their motives for choosing a foreign religion over the traditional Confucianism. Another helpful document would be a response from a woman because it would be useful to know the reasons a woman in Chinese society would choose Buddhism and their perspective as opposed to the point of view of men. Another important historical event that occurred during this time period was the end of the Cold War. In 1975, under President Gerald Ford the US joined the USSR and thirty three other countries to sign the Helsinki Accords that each member of nations vowed to respect human rights and boundaries. I think the whole end of the Cold War greatly affected this dance. I think by using contact improvisation it sort of represented people s feelings better by being able to interact with each other. So by using contact improvisation I think the dancers were able to get their point across to the audience better. Therefore, the end of the Cold War was probably very important for contact improvisation and expressing yourself. Finally, the Vietnam War was another important historical event going on in the 1970s. When Nixon was president he sent American troop strength in Vietnam. • 42. Soviet Family Code and Women Reproductive rights and daycare became capital in soviet society as more and more women were entering the workforce and receiving an education. The direct influence of the early Soviet Rule on women s employment was modest as the foundations for the professionalization of women had been laid on decades before the October 1917 Revolution. Furthermore, the two World Wars greatly impacted women employment by opening up new fields for them. The Industrial Revolution of the end of the nineteenth century marked the first massive entry of women in the industrial workforce. Indeed, they provided an inexpensive supply of unskilled labor (Lapidus 1978). Women primarily worked in the industry, with an emphasis on textile and garments which were respectively 68% and 80% women dominated fields in 1932, (Heitlinger 1979). Women also represented the majority of education, sciences and scientifical services employees, representing between 54% and 58% of the labor force between 1929 and 1940 (Sacks 1977). World War I by draining young able bodied men emptied factories and gave the opportunity to women to access male dominated fields ( from 26.6 percent of the workforce in 1914, the proportion of women in the industry as a whole rose to 43.2% by 1917 (Engel 2004)). The predominance of women in education can be explained by the dramatic increase of access to education for women between the end of the nineteenth century and 1917. Before the Revolution, education was gender segregated. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Hiroshima In urban morphology, the urban environment acts a palimpsest for urban forms. On a palimpsest, words are transcribed onto a surface, used, then erased and replaced as the palimpsest was needed to record other information. In the same manner, urban forms are constructed in the urban environment, then gradually torn down and replaced as society develops new needs from the urban. However, Hiroshima is a much different urban morphological story than most cities. On August 6th, 1945, the Little Boy atomic bomb was dropped aiming towards the t shaped Aioi Bridge near the center of the city (Hein, et al. 88). In an instant, the urban environment of Hiroshima is erased, possibly faster than the speed of what it would take to wipe a literal palimpsest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hiroshima plans to pay homage to the tragedy through the construction of a Memorial Hall for A Bomb Victims, but it appears the city is mainly trying to rebuild in a functional capacity, as evident by the sparsity of elite buildings within the entire blast zone. The few non essential built forms they plan for are a broadcasting station, newspaper press, and department store, but even these non essential built forms do not suggest luxury beyond a functional level. The city also plans to reconnect the islands of its river delta city through the reparation of bridges, most of which were ruined in the blast, yet leave much open area in places where buildings were reduced to rubble, as if to commemorate the old city by not rebuilding heavily damaged ... • 44. Analyzing The Story Who Will Light Incense When Mothers... In the story Who Will Light Incense When Mothers Gone? the author has created multiple themes or ways to interpret the purpose behind the story. Lam says, She turns 70 but she remains a vivacious woman her hair is still mostly black, there is still a girlish twang in her laughter, and her eyes twinkle at the telling of a joke (Lam). The way the author speaks about Mrs. Lam, using such vivid language shows that he takes time to appreciate the person she is and how she lights the room up. Showing so much attention to detail about someone can really show the love towards one another, thus allowing filial love to be an alternative theme of the story. Filial love is a love from a child to his or her parents, in this case Andrew Lam is speaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vietnam is very much relevant to this story because of the fact that Lam s mother brings over Vietnamese traditions in hope that her children will continue to carry on their her legacy. According to the who will light incense when mothers gone? , Lam create the idea of Vietnams identity by saying, mumbles solemn prayers to the spirits of our dead ancestors, and to the all compassionate Buddha. Here he is explaining a Vietnam tradition his mother practiced as a daily routine, asking for protection of her children and that they shall thrive in America. Between the family moving to America and the mother asking of her God for her kids to prosper in America, this tells readers that the education system or dreams for a good career probably are not as advantageous as the opportunities in America. One of the biggest challenges in the Vietnam school system is that if a student has a question about something, they are not allowed to address the instructor unless called upon. If the student never gets called upon the student must than go back through the notes they took during class and find the answer. But what if the notes were not written down correctly? Than that student has just answered the question on the next test incorrectly because of inadequate communication of the school system. How is a Vietnam student supposed to have a reasonable career if the countries school system is failing them. However, just as the Lam family has done, moving to America will allow a strong and more improved education for a levelheaded career. This is also known to be considered the American Dream way of ... • 45. The Roles Of Male And Women In The Victorian Era In today s era both males and females being seen as equals is a widely accepted belief; however, in the Victorian era this thought would be laugh at. In fact, men were viewed far more superior to women. Where as, the men were put on a pedestal the women seemed to have little to no use. Although, women only had a few tasks to accomplish in life, what she was tasked with was highly expected of her. These were things such as do not be a burden, act as expected, marry well, and have a son. In the beginning, of a girls life if she had hope to live the average life span she would have to beat the unruly high death rates for females. Despite the fact that all children, in any social classes, were a mouth to be fed, they were still a potential source to help the family prosper. This however, did not stop parents from malnourishing their daughters so their sons may live or giving far less access to many essentials, such as clean bathing water. This lead to the daughters also being prone to infections. If that or other accidents did not kill the girls; however, some time the families would result to outright killing their own daughters. On the other hand if the girls lived through their early years they would be groomed for something specific in life. It was more often than not up to their parents to decide what they would be ... • 46. How Is Love Presented In Plato s Symposium The view of love presented in Plato s Symposium is not a very positive one to a modern reader; although some of its eulogies can appeal to various emotions or make sense logically, they fail to present love in a way that is both humane and sends a positive message. While Aristophanes eulogy depicts humans as inherently flawed and lacking independence, Socrates logic based definition takes away the emotion and humanity from love and leaves readers with an unappealing image of love that leaves little to no room for mystery, curiosity, and pure emotion. One of the most famous eulogies delivered in the Symposium is delivered by Aristophanes in the form of a myth; he states that long ago, people lived in conjoined pairs with two faces, four arms, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While it may be logical for Socrates to reject Alcibiades advances on grounds of exchanging bronze for gold (219A), it is very unappealing and inhumane to see a potential relationship forsaken simply because it is not a fair transaction . Alcibiades appears to be showing a real emotional connection to Socrates, but he is simply not given a chance due to Socrates view on what love should be. This is especially unappealing because oftentimes, we do not even try to comprehend the logic or reasoning as to why we love someone or something; we simply acknowledge that there is an emotional connection that sometimes cannot be fully explained based on transactional value. Socrates definition also completely eliminates any mystery or curiosity about love in the eyes of the reader; such a logical and transactional analysis presents love as a formula that can be easily determined and explained. However, that is simply not the reality. Love has always been an incredibly tantalizing subject for one reason it is mysterious. People can seem to fall in love with each other in the blink of an eye, or a loving relationship could take years of friendship to finally develop.
