This document discusses the technique of paper chromatography. It was introduced in 1906 by Dr. M. Tswett and is a simple separation method based on the principle of partition chromatography. There are several types of paper chromatography including ascending, descending, ascending-descending, radial, and two-dimensional. Paper chromatography has many applications such as identifying components in mixtures, analyzing drugs and impurities, and separating colored mixtures. It is a basic but inexpensive and rapid analytical chemistry technique commonly used in pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

 Dr.M.Tswett introduced paper chromatography in
1906.
 Paper chromatography is simple and most widely
used separation technique.
 Partition chromatography principle.
 The separation is effected by differential migration
of the mixture of substances, which takes place due
to difference in partition.
 Analysis of unknown substances.

 How it is useful in separation and analysis of
mixture of components.
 Paper chromatography is widely used in areas
pharmaceutical and many chemical industries.
 As it is inexpensive and simple, it is basic
chromatographic technique performed in
laboratories.
