Essays About Reading
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Essays About Reading" can be both a challenging and
rewarding endeavor. On one hand, the topic itself seems straightforward – after all, it involves
the act of writing about a widely appreciated activity. However, delving deeper into the subject
requires a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted aspects of reading and the diverse ways in
which individuals interact with literature.
One of the challenges is striking a balance between personal reflections and broader insights into
the significance of reading in society. It's not merely about sharing one's own experiences with
books but also about analyzing the broader implications of a society that engages with written
words. This involves exploring the impact of reading on intellectual development, cultural
awareness, and even empathy.
Another difficulty arises in navigating the fine line between subjective opinions and objective
analysis. While personal anecdotes can add a unique flavor to the essay, it's crucial to ground the
arguments in a broader context, incorporating relevant research, literary criticism, and historical
perspectives. This requires a careful synthesis of personal reflections and scholarly insights to
create a well-rounded and convincing essay.
Furthermore, the challenge extends to maintaining coherence and flow in the narrative. The essay
should not read like a disjointed collection of thoughts but should instead form a cohesive
exploration of the topic. This demands a thoughtful organization of ideas, with each paragraph
seamlessly connecting to the next to guide the reader through a logical progression of thoughts.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on "Essays About Reading" may seem straightforward
initially, it involves a complex interplay of personal experiences, scholarly research, and careful
organization. Navigating these challenges can lead to a rich and insightful exploration of the
topic, providing readers with a deeper understanding of the importance of reading in our lives.

Disadvantages Of Tapons
1.Issue description:
Hint: Be specific in your description, of what your activity is specifically, what is its
frequency, etc. and why it is not sustainable.
My Sustainability Assessment will address the unsustainable effects of Tampons
ecologically and socially. Tampons are greatly used among women, as they
approximately use 9,300 tampons in their lifetime. It is also very convenient and
compact as it can be seen on every store shelf. However, there are many
disadvantages in its use.
Every woman has their period every month. Hence, the tampons are greatly needed.
With this need is a health risk that can affect women in the future, such as dioxin
residue, and chemicals in fragrances that are found within the tampon itself. In these
chemicals lies a more dangerous risk, which is Toxic Shock Syndrome, pelvic
inflammation to name a few. Thus, a woman s need can also be the one that can put
her in danger. Tampons, as small as it can seem, can also harm the environment. The
production of cotton uses pesticides that can be carcinogenic and can leave traces in
tampons. The plastic applicator found in tampons can harm marine ecosystem and
can take years to degrade. The tampon, itself, that are found in landfills can t also
degrade and can cause carbon emissions.
On the other hand, Tampons are controlled and manufactured by well known
companies such as Procter Gamble, and Johnson Johnson, which makes it
economically stable. Feminine products, such as tampons, can increase up to the US
$35.4 Billion in global sales. With this power, they can deceive the customers into
thinking that their product is safe when it is not.
2.Desired outcomes: Briefly explain each of the following outcomes:
(a)My issue is/is not ecologically sound because...
Tampons have always been in the garbage every month, as every woman uses it.
Its waste can amount to 62, 415lbs. This garbage, without proper disposal, can end
in landfills, which can take up more than a year to degrade. A tampon has super
absorbent, dense fibers that are petroleum based, which takes up a slower process to
degrade in areas that are at a colder temperature. Moreover, its plastic applicators can
also be a cause in harming the marine ecosystem. Some of the
The Sexuality Of Female Sexuality
In modern societies, where all the former taboos on sex are abolished, one subject
can still raise a wave of debates. People of almost all religious views and social
orders are ready to accept and be tolerant to homosexual or bisexual people, but the
issue over the female sexuality is still unsettled. The question how it differs from the
malesexuality and why exactly the attitude to femalesexuality is different compared to
the male one is discussed by lots of psychologists, sociologists and philosophers.
However, there is no coherent and competent explanation yet. Sexuality is messy,
passionate, unclear, tentative, anxiety producing, liberating, frightening,
embarrassing, consoling, appetitive, and cerebral (Schwartz, 1994, p. 8),... Show more

She writes that it is an established fact that the idea of female sexuality prevalent
over the centuries is not something given in nature, or biologically true, but is only
a cultural construction (Kar, 2015, p. 24). Kar considers that by being culturally
constructed, it absorbed lots of means to disempower women, and the medical
sciences together with literature is two most powerful tools of this cultural
absorption. Cultural oppression and suppression constitute this process.
According to Kar (2015), within this system, female sexuality was believed to be
essentially passive (p. 24). People believed this because they were taught that
biologically female sexual organs were devoted to serve only one function that is
reproductive one. Sexual fulfillment was out of the question, a luxury that women
could not afford. Women were considered to be less sexually desirous compared to
men. They were obliged to seek fulfillment by following their natural destiny ,
namely to be a good wife and mother. This all formed the stereotype of ideal female
sexuality that is close to neutral because women should be modest, passive and even
passionless. Such norm of sexual behavior was deeply rooted in many cultures and
societies around the globe. However, some people were adherent to this norm, while
others became the aberrant. Some women claimed that they had as much of the right
to speak about sex as men. At the same time, each society tried to calm those who
Ee Cummings Research Paper
Who was E.E Cummings? Why did he write? What did he achieve? A poet like E.E
Cummings is one who will not be quickly forgotten. Just at a quick glance his poems
are nonsensical, fascinating, and altogether mystical. His various use of different
poetic strategies and structural choices allow a reader to spend a lot of time
analyzing his poems and reading between the lines. E.E. Cummings, although
strange, is very famous and recognized for his supple use of interconnectivity in his
works. Cummings was born on October 14th, 1894. He started writing poems at the
young age of 10, in 1904. Ever since then Cummings has written a variety of poetry,
the majority, if not all, of which breaks the standard rules of conventions in English
Literature. Much of the time Cummings uses poetic devices and structure... Show

Cummings has a unique style of poetry that focuses on the little details regarding
structure and poetic devices all coming together to create main ideas that aren t
apparent or easy to grasp on the first read of his works. His use of capitalization
and punctuation are small details that give way to big ideas. Iconic poetic
strategies like repetition and symbolism allow the readers to use cues from both
word choice and structure to create the desired main ideas that make his poems so
unique. The poem Humanity I Love You is a great example of a Cummings work
because it combines all of the aforementioned details with social commentary and
deep reflection that makes the reader really think about what Cummings means as
well as the meaning of his works as a whole. Cummings works are important
because he was a pioneer of unique and interesting poetic strategies. His complete
disregard for English structural rules combined with his deep and passionate social
commentary has been an inspiration for so many people, and a pathway for many
new and interesting modern poets. E.E. Cummings is a hallmark of unique and
fascinating poets, and should be remembered as
Economic And Political Challenges Facing China
Having a historical record of over three thousand years, China is considered as one of
the few countries with a significant continuous civilization. Before the twentieth
century, it was under the rule of various dynasties. The Xia dynasty was the first
dynasty to rule in the country (Tanner 35). The bureaucratic systems of these regimes
resulted to the agrarian civilization that was much better off than the existing
nomadic cultures. Through the entire period from the 1990s, the country has
regained its effectiveness towards both legal and economic reforms prioritized by the
government, enabling it to focus more on the improvement of criminal law system as
well as in the modernization of the legal personnel (Niu and State Information... Show

In the recent past, China s economy has grown at a high rate attracting the attention
of the foreign investors. Its gross domestic product has also been high, with the
year 2014 recording the highest figure of over ten percent of the world s economy.
The overall structure of its economy has also improved; the unemployment rates
have gone down with prices rising at a moderate rate. It is always clear that with a
high rate of unemployment within a country, the income levels also tend to be low
affecting the living standards of the people, which in turn results to lower
productivity levels in the country. Regardless of maintaining a positive balance of
payments, the country s economy also faces some challenges. China s economy is
facing economic challenge regarding possibilities of deflationary risks (Mulroney
15). Its economy is also experiencing relatively high costs incurred during the
financing of the enterprises. The local governments are overburdened with massive
amounts of debts that need to be clear. All these challenges are slowing down the rate
of its economic growth.
Politically, the communist party forms the nation s founding and the ruling party in
the modern society. A large number of the party members, approximately eighty six

internationally. One of the most pressing issues that the

The Service Concept, Servqual Model And Understanding...
For this report I will be looking into conduction a critique piece examining the ideas,
theories and techniques specifically looking into the purpose application and
limitation or the service concept, Servqual model and understanding customer types.
The Service Concept
Application
The service concept can simply be broken down into three different stages which is
firstly the organising idea this is basically when the service is used or bought by the
consumer. The next being the service provided, this is the process in which affects
the way their service provider ends up interacting with their customer base. Last but
not least is the service received, now the service received is the end result of the
customers overall experience in particular the emotions that they then feel towards
this posing the question if they were satisfied with the service provide and lastly was
it good value for the money that they ended up paying for it. (Johnston Clark 2008)
A brilliant example of the service concept would be to look at Alton towers
concept which is very good, the organising idea is quite a basic concept which
involves having a great day out at the theme park with over 100 rides for families
and amusement park goers and thrill seekers leaving them with a vast array of
options to choose from.
The service provided is free car parking, helpful staff, huge amount off customer
toilets, Clean Park, and generally well run amusement park. With that being said this

A Civil Action Writing Assignment. I do believe that he acted fairly. It make
sense even if it feels unfair to people who know the whole truth. There would be no
case if they could not prove that the contaminants had gotten into the water. I am
not sure if the way he asked the jury was the most fair way. But in the end it makes
sense to me why he did what he did. If the jury did not believe that the water was
contaminated by thoses companies then there is no case for the families to fight. It
makes sense that the judge did not want to have the family to go on the stand
because what would that prove to the jury, if some of them do not believe that the
water was contaminated. I can see how he would think that was a waste of time. Yes

The Epidemiology Of Heart Rate
Heart rate is the number of times a minute our heart makes a beat. It is a very vital
sound. There are two parts to each heartbeat. The first part is when the heart
contracts and pumps blood, is called the systole (sis tol). The second part is when
the heart relaxes so the chambers can refill with blood, is called diastole (di as tol).
Heartrate is what causes blood to run through your arteries. The heart uses a lot of
force to pump blood to the whole body. If your heart stops working then none of your
body will be able to get blood and you most likely die if some can t get your heart to
start back up again. The heart is one of the most vital arteries in the body.

The cardiovascular system is responsible for transporting oxygen, nutrients,
hormones, and cellular waste products all throughout the body. The cardiovascular
systems main power is the heart. There are two main circulatory loops in the human
body. The pulmonary circulation loop and the systemic circulation loop. The
pulmonary circulation moves deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to
the lungs, where the blood picks up oxygen and returns to the left side of the heart.
The pumping chambers of the heart that support the pulmonary circulation loop are
the right atrium and right ventricle. The systemic circulation brings very high
oxygenated blood from the left side of the heart to all of the tissues of the body,
except for the heart and lungs. Systemic circulation removes wastes from body tissues
and returns deoxygenated blood to the right side of the heart. The left atrium and left

The Reasons For The Weimar Republic s Collapse

Modern Democracies

If Hitler Hadn t Existed
By 1919 Germany s entire governmental structure that had ruled Germany since 1871
was eradicated. An outbreak of violence fled through Germany while revolutionary
communists fought battles with right wing militias in hopes of gaining control.
Through all the violence and mayhem, the Social Democratic party was still able to
hold elections for a national assembly, which thus formed the Weimar Republic. This
new government sought to bring about a constitution where its sole purpose was to
introduce democracy. Throughout the years the Weimar Republic began to decline,
it was not able to withhold a democracy. By around 1933 Hitler was able to take
advantage of the failing democracy which eventually led to the Nazi party taking total
control over Germany. The reason for the Weimar Republic s collapse was mainly
due to reparations paid from World War I, the collapse of the economy by the Great
Depression, structural conditions, institutional weaknesses, and an absence of
governance. With that said, even if Hitler had not existed, it is very unlikely that the
Weimar Republic would have survived.
Historians have come to believe that had Germany s economy not been disrupted by
the world depression, their political system would not have been so vulnerable. Aside
from the United States, Germany was hit the hardest by the world depression. The
economic crisis led to unemployment of six million

sider BACKGROUND Efficient market theory examines how accurately stock
prices signal resource allocation alloc and fully reflect all available information.
Fama (1970) introduced the efficient market hypothesis stating there are three forms
of efficiency: weak, semi strong, and strong. A market semi strong, that incorporates
all historical information is said to be weak form efficient, while one that responds
to all publicly available informatio is semi strong efficient. In a semiinformation
strong efficient market, prices instantly change to reflect publicly available
information. A strong form market, strong responds to all information, both public
and private. The hypothesis claims that achieving above average returns on a risk
adjusted basis is impossible (Fama 1970). (Fama, The lowest level of market
efficiency, weak form, states that the market only reacts to historical information.
This means that no one can earn above normal returns based on published historical
information; however, the market does not quickly react to new public or private
information. It may be possible then, in a weak form efficient market, to obtain
abnormal returns form using either new publicly available or private insider
information (Fama 1970). (Fama, A semi strong form market is more efficient that a

Swot Analysis Of Verizon

partnership of Verizon Wireless ended when Verizon acquired the wireless division
during 2013. The acquisition cost Verizon $130 billion, but the gains increase
Verizon s possibilities into the future. In fact, it moves Verizon closer to their goal
of corporate strategy: to build corporate advantage to earn above normal returns
(Diversification, n.d.). Verizon s strategy scope broadens horizontally with the
acquisition. A company broadens its scope in three ways: horizontally, vertically,
and geographically. A geographic scope expands the organization geographically or
globally (Divers, n.d.) A vertical scope comprises of expanding forward, backward, or

With the acquisition, Verizon passes this test easily. Verizon s 4G LTE is the fastest
data network type available in the U. S. While Cingular has a mass following on its
wireless network, it is not the fastest. With continuing demand for devices to connect
wirelessly increasing consumers mobility, Verizon s prospects grow. Verizon also
gains capabilities that enhance its offering with providing services consumers never
knew they needed. It goes beyond the unlimited data plans now offered from the
original shared plans from the beginning. Thinking beyond consumer needs of
tomorrow, but further into the future, Verizon seeks creative ideas by thinking
outside the box. It is those paradoxical suggestions, like its 4G LTE, that sustains the
organization. The second test of durability means the resources depreciate slowly
(Collis Montgomery, 2008). From the look of Verizon s network, the 103 million
additional customers, its reputation, and its brand are not depreciable. Verizon
delivers quality and reliable service through its network, building customer loyalty
and trust. Its reputation derived from the delivery of quality and reliable service
strengthens its brand. As the company introduces new ideas and means to enhance
consumer mobility, the more durable its reputation and brand

Effects Of Challenging Behavior On Health And Social
Care...
Effects of Challenging Behaviour
This assignment will be discussing how legislation applies to challenging behavior. It
will also outline how strategies are used to minimise effects of challenging behaviour
in health and social care settings. It will further discuss and evaluate how the
strategies are used to minimise effects of one type of challenging behaviour in a
health and social care setting. There are many legislations that apply to challenging
behaviour and these include, The Human Rights Act 1998, The Convention on the
Rights of the Child, The Child Act, The Care Standards Act, Every Child Matters.
The most effective way of managing challenging behaviour is to ensure that
everyone receiving care has an individualised assessment which outlines their needs
and aspirations and an individualised care plan that details how they wish their
services to be delivered and takes account of the competency of the care providers
to do this. The assessment should take account of any potential challenging
behaviour, should include a risk assessment, and should give clear guidance to staff
about how to prevent and manage this. The service user should be involved in the
whole process of assessment and care planning preferable via a self assessment
process.
The Human Rights Act 1998 came into force in October 2000 to protect fundamental
rights and freedom contained in the European Convention to Human Rights. The
fundamental rights include rights that impact directly on service

Definitions And Considerations Of New Markets
Implementations and Considerations
Introduction of New Markets introducing new markets offers profound potential to
attract new and old shoppers to the locality. However it also makes way for many
complications given the Camberwell council already operates a fresh food market
four days a week. The structural aesthetics and general cleanliness of a market plays a
pivotal role for the ultimate consumer. Should the markets look modern and clean
then shoppers are more likely to spend should the markets look old and dirty then
shoppers are more likely to never come again.
Given the infrastructure that the council would most likely use for hosting these new
markets are already being offered to the public for over 45hours a week it would be ...

However hosts must be careful in what movies cultures they choose to broadcast as
bad decisions arising from poor communication could lead to disputes and greater
racial tension than what there already is.
As the council has no movie theatres of their own they must relay this idea through
the cooperation with Rivoli. As Rivoli is a privately run enterprise the council
must offer them some form of financial benefit for their partnership. The focal
point in deciding the partnership with Rivoli lies on the choice of night the
council wishes to introduce this idea upon along with the compensation type the
council is willing to offer. Should it be a Friday or Saturday night Rivoli will
expect more for financial compensation for their services than if it were scheduled
for any other day of the week due to the nature of potential attendees and how most
people have Friday and Saturday nights off from work. Will the council then have
enough capital required to host the event on a Friday or Saturday night for the sake
of multiculturalism? Or is the cheaper alternative and hosting the event during other
days of the week more appropriate? Also shall payment be addressed as a lump sum?
Or will the profit split method be used? Assuming the profit split method is used what

Compulsive Sexual Behavior And Mental Health Problem
Compulsive sexual behavior or hypersexuality as it has been termed, is a disorder
that is currently under scrutiny for whether or not it is an actual mental disorder.
Some doctors claim that people who claim to be sex addicts merely have high
libidos, but those who disagree see it as an intimacy disorder, a real problem. Sexual
release does cause a high, because the body releases certain endorphins or feel good
hormones. Just like any other mental health problem, sex addicts have underlying
symptoms such as stress, anxiety and depression; these symptoms often stimulate
their behaviors. Although researchers have a hard time differentiating between high
libido persons and sex addicts, they have found a simple way of drawing the line....

What if a person constantly feels a certain way because of the chemicals in their
brain? Of course, a person must be making the decisions to complete these
behaviors while sober. If there are substances involved in their actions, one should
first take care of the substance abuse or dependency problem before focusing on the
sexual behaviors. The brain makes many different chemicals that make you feel
different ways. Adrenaline, testosterone and estrogen are commonly talked about
hormones, but how often does one hear about serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine
and androgens? An imbalance in the above listed hormones could cause negative
emotions such as depression, sadness, anger and even aggression. Hypersexuality
is most likely fueled by anxiety, depression, or another emotional vulnerability.
Many argue that people who claim to be sex addicts are merely acting out. Many
doctors do not believe that hypersexuality is a true disorder, but they do believe that
it is a person acting out. By acting out in this manner, a person maybe making up for
an emotion that they are lacking. With the hormonal high one gets from sexual
release, one may be freed from feelings of depression for a short while. Rather than
terming this sexual behavior, acting out, or being uncontrolled, a more politically
correct term for this action could be coping mechanism. A coping mechanism

Syllabus
Dramatic Play Generally dramatic play has been proven is one of the main activities
that can enhance child emotional development and can be the entertainment for the
children.
The game we would like to propose in our syllabus is Live in Your Space . In this
dramatic game, the instructors will give instructions to kids to build their own
space such as school, library, post office, kitchen, grocery or office. The kids will
be divided into smaller groups of three or four peoples for them to work together to
build their own space in 30 to 45 minutes period and after that the kids need to act
the roles they have chosen since children actually love to pretend as adults.
There are various toys provided in the childcare that kids can use to build the
setting they want. For example a group of kids wanted to build a classroom setting.
They can use everything in their surrounding for the setting such as books, number
or alphabets blocks, some cards and etc. They also can arrange the chairs and tables
in order to make it similar with a classroom by help from teacher. After the setting,
the kids can pretend as teacher teaching in the classroom or as students listening to
the lessons. The teacher can ring a bell when wanted the end the pretend play to
make the situation similar with a real school. Generally in this game, kids need to
learn how to work together and tolerate with each other in order to accomplish the
task. They might have different opinions in setting their
An Herbal Supplement Essay
Hawthorn is an herbal supplement that has been effectively used to treat various
chronic and acute diseases in individuals, but the most commonly used treatment has
been for those who suffer from heart conditions. Hawthorn belongs to the rosaceae
family and can be found in various regions all over the world, such as Europe, Asia,
and North America (Wang, Xiong, Feng, 2013). In both eastern and western
medicine, the berries, leaves, and flowers of Hawthorn have been used in treating
diseases that have been associated with the cardiovascular system. Various parts of
the plant have been utilized to treat these heartconditions in humans by using the
extracts of the plant to make capsules that are ingested or even using the leaves of
Hawthorn to make tea. Several in vivo and in vitro studies have been conducted to
determine the effectiveness that Hawthorn has in improving cardiovascular function
by vasodilating bloodvessels, decreasing arterial blood pressure, and lipid lowering
effects (Wang, Xiong, Feng, 2013). Hawthorn is also known to contain chemical
constituents that have disease fighting properties that may help in the treatment of
heart disease and fight free radical oxidation (Tassell, Kingston, Gilroy, Lehane,
Furey, 2010). The importance of Hawthorn in the treatment of cardiovascular disease,
may provide individuals with this condition a safe and natural alternative to the
current medications they are taking. The effectiveness of Hawthorn in the treatment of
Alpha Wolf Research Paper
Living in a family group called packs makes the wolves a well organized species.
Wolves are very social and intelligent animals.
Life cycle
Gray wolves only breed once a year from between January to March. (Typically,
only the male and female pack leaders.) After a 63 day gestation period, the mother
will give birth to an average of 4 6 pups around the months of April to May. When
the pups are born, they are deaf and blind, weighing in about 1 pound. During the
first 3 weeks, while the pups are nursing every 4 6 hours, they still need help

They represent the middle class and in most cases, the subordinates were Omegas
that had climbed up the social ladder by dominating other members of the pack. They
re usually submissive towards the wolves who are higher up the hierarchy.
Occasionally, the subordinates could become the new Alphawolf by fighting their
pack leaders. They can actually skip the Beta position and become the new Alpha.
The Omega Wolf
Omega wolves are at the very bottom of the pack hierarchy. The Omegas are the
ones who feed last and if their Alpha demands it, they won t eat at all. Often the
other members of the pack will bully the Omegas. But the Omega does play a very
important role in the pack. The Omegas help the other members of the pack vent off
conflicts without causing acts of war.
In recent studies they show that their contribution goes far beyond internal conflict
resolution. It seems that packs who lose their Omegas will stop all hunting and begin
to mourn them. Within their pack, they can fight their way up to the top of the
hierarchy, but the Omegas status can only be earned by defeating their opponents on
multiple occasions until the others recognize their dominance.

Eloi Vs Morlocks
The Time machine by H.G Wells imagines what it might be like to travel into the
future. Wells presents two creatures in the text that has evolved during the time.
These creatures are the Eloi and the Morlocks. Even though the Eloi and the Morlocks
both have human traits, the text suggests that the Eloiare more human than the
Morlocks because of their body form and thinking.
Wells proposes the Eloi are the upper class society and that the Morlocks are weird
looking creatures. The time traveler has arrived in the future where he has lost his
time machine. While trying to locate the machine he discovers a civilization known
as the Eloi. Wells points out that the Eloi like to spend all their time in playing gently,

The body form of an Eloi and their lifestyle is viewed very differently compared to
the Morlocks. The Eloi are little people, they are beautiful and fragile. Wells
suggests that the Eloi have more human traits than the Morlocks. He goes on to
explain the living conditions of an Eloi. They have several big palaces, great
dining halls and sleeping apartments (Wells 51). Similar to how humans live, this
passage suggests that although the place is falling apart, it is still a home to the
Eloi. The text gives us the sense that the Eloi is living in a utopian society where
their existence is similar to human traits. Humans do live in apartments, eat at the
dining places and have big cities. The comparison between the Morlocks form and
lifestyle is that the Morlocks do not wear clothing, which is very noticeable in
human society, also the text suggest that the Morlocks looks like apes. The text
also suggests that the Morlocks are savages in which they serve the Eloi, but in
return, they eat them. The text even goes on to suggest that the Morlocks are like
little monster who are attracted to darkness instead of light. Wells provides us with
a better description the Morlocks suggesting they are dull white, and had strange
large greyish red eyes; also that there was flayen hair on its head and down its back
Thomas Nagel What Does It All Mean Summary
Christine Fleitas Thomas Nagel introduces intriguing questions of philosophy in his
book, What Does It All Mean? Throughout the book, Nagel brings up controversial
topics and problems that are dealt with in our everyday lives. This book takes your
mind into another world, questioning the meaning of our existence and investigating
the unknown because we believe that there is more out there than meets the eyes.
First, Nagel presents us with a controversial topic that makes you question your own
beliefs and thoughts towards something we have known to exist. Secondly, Nagel
presents to us free will and whether or not we even have any, or if it has already been
predetermined making it inevitable to decide our own path. Lastly, Nagel presents the

If you were to take determinism as a true representation of life, then that would
mean choosing the BMW was already meant to occur and the Honda was never
really an option for you. This view may be a little tricky to comprehend, as it is
hard to grasp the whole idea of it. Nagel expresses his view on this topic, stating
that if determinism were true, there would be serious consequences. Diving in to
this view, we can argue that every event is already determined in advance, leaving
no room for possibility anywhere. If for instance, your friend Bryan were to
borrow your clothes without permission, there would be no point of blaming him
for his actions since it was already determined he would do such a thing. This
concept is controversial because if everything was already determined, then who
would be held responsible for their actions. If you were to apply this then it wouldn
t be right of you to pick a fight with Bryan since the future is already determined and
there is no wrong doing on his

During the late 60s and early 70s, anti war movement was steadily progressing in
the United States. The peace movement was directed to stop all forms of war. As the
sixties wore on many anti war groups began to form in the United States to protest
for peace. These included the Black Panthers, the SDS, Woodstock, music and flower

Analysis Of Forest Mcdonad s States Rights And The Union
In Forest McDonad s States Rights and the Union: Imperium in the Imperio, 1776
1876, he simply begins the book by stating the main problem that the United States
faced during the first one hundred years of existence: the state and national
government authority were not easily separated. Before the time period of which
McDonald analyzes, the people of the future country, the United States, lived in
England, where the line between state and national government authority was clear.
McDonald mentions the Act of Settlement of 1701 where Parliament decided the plan
of succession, and he mentions how Parliament could not compromise when English
colonists who were settled in America questioned their right to tax or make laws for

The Declaration of Independence is split up into three parts. The preamble states the
beginning and the purpose of the country, the government being put into place, and
how the government can be destroyed if necessary. The rather lengthy second part of
the Declaration is filled with accusations of the King of Great Britain of the time. The
actual declaration occurs in the third part of the document; in this part of the
document, the states are declared free and independent where they hold the power to
levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances... (10). Yet, the union itself can only do
these three acts. The country s issue of determining where the states and the union s
power ends and begins starts with the first document of the entire existence of the
United States. McDonald brings up the interesting point concerning War of 1812
again dealing where the authority of the government and the states lie. Many did not
agree with going to war in the beginning, and even the votes in the Senate and the
House were pretty divided. Those in the New England states protested and refused to
fight in the war. According to the Declaration of Independence, the states are
sovereign; yet, when the War of 1812 was on the horizon and without the approval
from Congress, Madison issued for one hundred thousand men in the militia to gather
and fight for the United States against the British. The people of the New England

Likewise, this journal discusses the mystery of death as depicted in the play Hamlet.
In the repercussion of his dad s death, Hamlet gets obsessed with the notion of

perspectives. He supposes both the profound result of death, represented in the
phantom and the substantial stays of the dead, like the decaying corpses in the
cemetery. And since death in the play is the cause as well as the consequence of
vengeance, then it is intimately tied to the subject of vengeance and justice.

The Negative Effects Of Gentrification
Gentrification, a very controversial topic that has just recently been brought to the
surface in the past few years, is the process of renovating and improving a house or
district so that it conforms to middle class taste ( Gentrification ). The two central
arguments behind gentrification reflect its deeply political controversy. One side of
the political spectrum argues that gentrification decreases the rate of crime and
increases a neighborhood s value, while the other side argues that gentrification is a
form of institutionalized racism that replaces low income families and dramatically
increases rates of homelessness. The negative effects of this issue could not be
anymore clear. In major cities like Boston, the cost of living has skyrocketed just in
the last five years. This process of removing housing districts to increase the
neighborhood s value is negatively affecting low income families, primarily people
of color, while wealthy middle to upper class white families are positively benefiting
from it. Gentrification is interfering with the diversity and economy of many urban
areas and historically low income neighborhoods. There is a very high displacement
rate in the United States, particularly in states like Massachusetts and New York due
to gentrification. Evidence has shown that
in many urban areas, including Boston, gentrification contains a racial and ethnic
dimension. Residents of neighborhood areas that were predominantly African

to hurt and neglect animals. This is called animal cruelty, and animal cruelty is
when someone harms an animal or does not care for that animal responsibly, such as

People who neglect animals should be punished and not have the right to own an

The Potential Problem Of Social Workers
The potential problem of social workers and lawyers/magistrates or judges
working together is that social worker might not be mindful of legal expectations
and requirements (Kennedy Richards, 2007). The roles and functions of lawyer
and social worker are very dissimilar as well as their histories, cultures and rituals
(Kennedy Richards, 2007). Lawyer s purposes are limited and tangible so they find
it difficult to understand that social worker s purposes are not (Rice Day, 2014).
Social workers find law as a part of their solution but not the complete resolution of
the problem (Dickens, 2008). Their main goal is to pursuit equitable access to social,

in both professions need to consider the consequences of their interventions and
their failure of the intervene (Rand, 2006). Social workers and lawyers must
maintain an analytical and informed perspective about the human service and legal

personal reconciliation and integrated practice are possible. Partnership between
law and social work could be hard but their knowledge and skills need to be shared
for maintaining an efficient and sustainable relationship. In relation to disadvantage

Hence, they can form powerful relationship to further common goals by ensuring

There are several main witness roles that social worker can participate. This requires

Deshelled Egg Osmosis
Osmosis and diffusion are processes by which water and solute particles,
respectively, pass through a selectively permeable membrane. When water moves
across a cell membrane the processes of osmosis and diffusion take place to
maintain a balance between the water and solute particles inside and outside of the
cell by moving from a region of high concentrationto a region of lower concentration.
If the concentration of solute particles inside and outside the cell are equal then the
solutionoutside the cell is referred to as isotonic, but if the concentration of solute
particles outside the cell are greater or less than the concentration inside the cell then
the solution is referred to as hypertonic (greater) and hypotonic (less). A hypertonic
solution results in shrinkage of the cell as water leaves the cell via osmosisto

Description Of A Good Friend
Dearest Good Friend,

on some of the information I learned in the form of some oh so friendly advice.
Although you, my good friend who has been seriously considering going into
design for some time, may already know a bit about design, I thought it a good idea
to let you know about what a few of the sources I have been reading have to say
about being a designer. Also, I wanted to let you know what these sources say in
regard to the place of designers and of designers work in the larger society.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to give you the full run down, but I have chosen
the best just for you. Jumping ahead a bit to my summary of findings, I found that
designers have special responsibilities lot of them. They have to think about the
people with which they work, the consumers of their designs, the manufacturers of
their designs, and the nature of the material with which they work. Also, design
should not be thought of as a way in which people show mastery and control over
the world. To do this is a bad idea because it can have a negative impact on a person s
morals. Now that I have given you an overview of my findings, I will let you know
more about how I came to these conclusions.
In deciding whether designers have any special responsibilities, I found the articles A

Usually, medium term bonds and long term bonds pay out fixed amounts of coupon
payments in semi annually during the repayment period. But, the index linked bonds

changes in inflation. The reason of government bonds are always have a lot of

Cities Of Chicago Chapter Summaries
BELIEF SYSTEMS 1. In Chicago there were many different ritualistic events and
activities in which the people were involved, many of which thousands of people
would gather just to hear about. Two thousand people gathered on the sidewalk and
street outside the offices of the Chicago Tribune... The people were gathered to hear
the news about the big fair that was coming up. This fair was deep in the hearts of
the Chicagopeople, just as the superbowl is in the hearts of Americans in today s
world.

Beneath the gore and smoke and loam, this book is about the evanescence of life,
and why some men choose to fill their brief allotment of time engaging the
impossible, others in the manufacture of sorrow. In the end it is a story of the
ineluctable conflict between good and evil, daylight and darkness, the White City
and the Black. (xi) This shows the contrast between the White City and the Black
City. One, perfect, beautiful, magical, the other dark, filthy, evil. The two work
together yet against each other in the battle to win over the hearts of the people who
visit, and those who decide to stay
America’s Insatiable Appetite for Cocaine Essay
America s Insatiable Appetite for Cocaine
Where does Coca Cola get its name? Why was it created? In 1886, the Georgia
pharmacist, John Pemberton, designed Coca Cola as a headache remedy and a
stimulant. The original beverage contained cocaine and was used both as an
intoxicating beverage and a medically useful tonic. The effects of the drink helped
make it popular. Only in the early twentieth century was the drug eliminated from the
Coca Cola recipe and replaced with increased amounts of caffeine.[1]
Cocaine has a long history which also involves the once condoned use for medicinal
purposes in the 1890 s to being one of the most widespread abused drug today.

Cocaine use results in both physiological and behavioral effects. The principal mental
effects are alertness and euphoria, the suppression of appetite, and the alarming and
dangerous psychosis. Cocaine enhances sensory power and increases energy when
taken in small doses. Therefore, it makes the user energetic, talkative,
contemplative, and sensitive to the sensations of sight, sound, smell, and touch.
However, the affects are all temporary. Sigmund Freud, best known as the father of
psychoanalysis, gives a first hand account of the effects of cocaine on him. A few
minutes after taking cocaine, one experiences a sudden exhilaration and feeling of
lightness. One feels a certain furriness on the lips and palate, followed by a feeling
of warmth in the same areas; if one now drinks cold water, it feels warm on the lips
and cold in the throat. On other occasions the predominant feeling is a rather pleasant
coolness in the mouth and throat. [11] If cocaine is taken in large doses, it may
produce negative physical symptoms such as chest pain, nausea, blurred vision, fever,
muscle spasms, convulsions, coma, and death. Death can occur from convulsions,
heart failure, or the loss of vital brain centers which control respiration. Cocaine is an
extremely strong reinforcer, an appetitive stimulus, thus, the potential for abuse is
very high. Therefore, it is clearly not a
John Steinbeck Essay
John Steinbeck was born on February 27, 1902 in Salinas, California, a farming
community with of about 2500 people. He was the third of four children and the
only son of John Ernst and Olive Hamiton Steinbeck. His sisters Beth and Esther
were much older than John and he felt closest to Mary, the youngest. He spent his
childhood and adolescence in the Salinas Valley, which he later called the saladbowl
of the nation. John s mother, Olive, was the daughter of Irish immigrants. She left her
parents ranch to become a teacher. John remembered his mother as energetic and full
of fun. He called his father, in contrast, a singularly silent man. Steinbeck s father,
also named John, worked as the treasurer of Monterey County. He had chosen a...

He would even pay people to hear their stories.
By 1925, Steinbeck had decided he had spent enough time in school. Steinbeck
traveled by freighter to New York City,as all good writers did. Steinbeck worked as
a brick layer in the construction of Madison Square Garden. John worked as a
reporter for the New York American. He got fired because he couldn t or wouldn t
report facts as he found them only the poetry or pilosophy he saw in them. New York
was a cold, frightening place to him and Steinbeck, deeply discouraged, returned to
California.
Steinbeck took a job as a caretaker at a vacation home near Lake Tahoe. He was
alone most of the time and became indulged in his writings. He finished writing his
first novel in 1928. The book, title Cup of Gold, was a historical tale of the pirate
Henry Morgan. When the owners of the vacation home found that a pine tree had
crashed through their roof, he lost his job but go one the next day in a trout
hatchery. One day a woman named Carol Henning toured the hatchery.
Immediately, John was attracted to her. He took her out on a date before she
returned to her home in San Francisco. After being fired from his job, Steinbeck
promptly moved to San Francisco to be with Carol. Cup of Gold was published in
1929. Steinbeck would send his books off to friends to have them type them and

Nanotechnology And Its Effects On Cancer Essay
Fundamentals of Nanotechnology
Cancer claims more than half a million lives in the United States every year
(National Cancer Institute). Cancer is commonly perceived to be a fatal illness that
leads to a slow death. Many cancer patients have little or no hope when they are
diagnosed with this devastating disease. However, there is a new breakthrough in
combating cancer. This new strategy has brought renewed hope to millions of
patients. Nanotechnology is the newest weapon in the war waged against cancer.
Nanotechnology is defined by the National Nanotechnology Initiative as research and
technology development at the atomic, molecular, or macromolecular scale leading
to the controlled creation and use of structures, devices, and systems with a length
scale of approximately 100 nm . Nanotechnology presents the potential to be
extremely effective in aiding cancer research and treatment. The implementation of
nanoparticles is a major development in the field of medicine, and its involvement in
the fight against cancer has yielded positive results. Nanotechnology allows for
precise targeting of malignant cells, which was a challenge in the past. Some
complications remain, but these few can be eliminated through more research.
Overall, nanotechnology presents a more safer and practical approach to eradicate
tumors. The approach for eliminating cancer in the U.S. should not be surgery,
chemotherapy, or radiation therapy; instead, the use of nanotechnology to combat

The Progressive Movement From 1890 To The Gilded Age
The Progressive Era The Progressive movement was created from 1890 to the
1920s by a group of men after the Gilded Age. It was a period of social activism and
political reform. These men wanted change in the government as the government had
many problems such as industrialization, urbanization, immigration, and corruption.
These men wanted the government to be fair after the government had been
exposed in all sorts of ways in books written by muckrakers such as The Jungle by
Upton Sinclair, How the Other Half Lives by Jacob Riis and many more. There were
many progressive people throughout the thirty year span, but the names people recall
the most are the Presidents of the United Statesduring those years which were

Taft would become the 27th President of the United States. Taft would become the
successor to Theodore Roosevelt s progressive movement. Unfortunately, President
Taft did the opposite of what Roosevelt was doing. Taft started to bust all trusts
whether they were good or bad he did not care. He busted a total of 80 trusts more
than Roosevelt had ever done but soon after President Taft would be more
conservative and be with members of the Republican Party. Taft during his
presidency would go on to raise tariffs on resources that entered the United States
with the Payne Aldrich Tariff Act of 1909 as well as have a controversy with
Richard Ballinger who was the Secretary of the Interior and Gifford Pinchot, chief
forester. This resulted in Pinchot being fired in which caused the Republican Party
to separate even more than what it already was. Everything Taft did during his
years in office made Roosevelt upset so when he came back from his 10 month trip
in Africa he decided to run for president again to get Taft out of office but did so
with a third party named the Progressive Party nicknamed the Bull Moose Party as
Taft was the Republican candidate. As many republicans were upset at what Taft
was doing chose to go on and elect Roosevelt s third party. In 1912, the presidential
election came down to three men Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt and William
H. Taft. Wilson would carry the majority of the states at forty states and Roosevelt

Essays About Reading

  • 1. Essays About Reading Crafting an essay on the subject of "Essays About Reading" can be both a challenging and rewarding endeavor. On one hand, the topic itself seems straightforward – after all, it involves the act of writing about a widely appreciated activity. However, delving deeper into the subject requires a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted aspects of reading and the diverse ways in which individuals interact with literature. One of the challenges is striking a balance between personal reflections and broader insights into the significance of reading in society. It's not merely about sharing one's own experiences with books but also about analyzing the broader implications of a society that engages with written words. This involves exploring the impact of reading on intellectual development, cultural awareness, and even empathy. Another difficulty arises in navigating the fine line between subjective opinions and objective analysis. While personal anecdotes can add a unique flavor to the essay, it's crucial to ground the arguments in a broader context, incorporating relevant research, literary criticism, and historical perspectives. This requires a careful synthesis of personal reflections and scholarly insights to create a well-rounded and convincing essay. • 2. Disadvantages Of Tapons 1.Issue description: Hint: Be specific in your description, of what your activity is specifically, what is its frequency, etc. and why it is not sustainable. My Sustainability Assessment will address the unsustainable effects of Tampons ecologically and socially. Tampons are greatly used among women, as they approximately use 9,300 tampons in their lifetime. It is also very convenient and compact as it can be seen on every store shelf. However, there are many disadvantages in its use. Every woman has their period every month. Hence, the tampons are greatly needed. With this need is a health risk that can affect women in the future, such as dioxin residue, and chemicals in fragrances that are found within the tampon itself. In these chemicals lies a more dangerous risk, which is Toxic Shock Syndrome, pelvic inflammation to name a few. Thus, a woman s need can also be the one that can put her in danger. Tampons, as small as it can seem, can also harm the environment. The production of cotton uses pesticides that can be carcinogenic and can leave traces in tampons. The plastic applicator found in tampons can harm marine ecosystem and can take years to degrade. The tampon, itself, that are found in landfills can t also degrade and can cause carbon emissions. On the other hand, Tampons are controlled and manufactured by well known companies such as Procter Gamble, and Johnson Johnson, which makes it economically stable. Feminine products, such as tampons, can increase up to the US $35.4 Billion in global sales. With this power, they can deceive the customers into thinking that their product is safe when it is not. 2.Desired outcomes: Briefly explain each of the following outcomes: (a)My issue is/is not ecologically sound because... Tampons have always been in the garbage every month, as every woman uses it. Its waste can amount to 62, 415lbs. This garbage, without proper disposal, can end in landfills, which can take up more than a year to degrade. A tampon has super absorbent, dense fibers that are petroleum based, which takes up a slower process to degrade in areas that are at a colder temperature. Moreover, its plastic applicators can also be a cause in harming the marine ecosystem. Some of the

People of almost all religious views and social orders are ready to accept and be tolerant to homosexual or bisexual people, but the issue over the female sexuality is still unsettled. The question how it differs from the malesexuality and why exactly the attitude to femalesexuality is different compared to the male one is discussed by lots of psychologists, sociologists and philosophers. She writes that it is an established fact that the idea of female sexuality prevalent over the centuries is not something given in nature, or biologically true, but is only a cultural construction (Kar, 2015, p. 24). Kar considers that by being culturally constructed, it absorbed lots of means to disempower women, and the medical sciences together with literature is two most powerful tools of this cultural absorption. Cultural oppression and suppression constitute this process. According to Kar (2015), within this system, female sexuality was believed to be essentially passive (p. 24). People believed this because they were taught that biologically female sexual organs were devoted to serve only one function that is reproductive one. Sexual fulfillment was out of the question, a luxury that women could not afford. Women were considered to be less sexually desirous compared to men. They were obliged to seek fulfillment by following their natural destiny , namely to be a good wife and mother. This all formed the stereotype of ideal female sexuality that is close to neutral because women should be modest, passive and even passionless. Such norm of sexual behavior was deeply rooted in many cultures and societies around the globe. However, some people were adherent to this norm, while others became the aberrant. Some women claimed that they had as much of the right to speak about sex as men. At the same time, each society tried to calm those who

The Reasons For The Weimar Republic s Collapse Lucas Schwartz Modern Democracies Professor Powers 4/15/16 If Hitler Hadn t Existed By 1919 Germany s entire governmental structure that had ruled Germany since 1871 was eradicated. An outbreak of violence fled through Germany while revolutionary communists fought battles with right wing militias in hopes of gaining control. Through all the violence and mayhem, the Social Democratic party was still able to hold elections for a national assembly, which thus formed the Weimar Republic. This new government sought to bring about a constitution where its sole purpose was to introduce democracy. Throughout the years the Weimar Republic began to decline, it was not able to withhold a democracy. By around 1933 Hitler was able to take advantage of the failing democracy which eventually led to the Nazi party taking total control over Germany. The reason for the Weimar Republic s collapse was mainly due to reparations paid from World War I, the collapse of the economy by the Great Depression, structural conditions, institutional weaknesses, and an absence of governance. With that said, even if Hitler had not existed, it is very unlikely that the Weimar Republic would have survived. Historians have come to believe that had Germany s economy not been disrupted by the world depression, their political system would not have been so vulnerable. Aside from the United States, Germany was hit the hardest by the world depression. The economic crisis led to unemployment of six million

Nagel expresses his view on this topic, stating that if determinism were true, there would be serious consequences. Diving in to this view, we can argue that every event is already determined in advance, leaving no room for possibility anywhere. If for instance, your friend Bryan were to borrow your clothes without permission, there would be no point of blaming him for his actions since it was already determined he would do such a thing. This concept is controversial because if everything was already determined, then who would be held responsible for their actions. If you were to apply this then it wouldn t be right of you to pick a fight with Bryan since the future is already determined and there is no wrong doing on his

Sigmund Freud, best known as the father of psychoanalysis, gives a first hand account of the effects of cocaine on him. A few minutes after taking cocaine, one experiences a sudden exhilaration and feeling of lightness. One feels a certain furriness on the lips and palate, followed by a feeling of warmth in the same areas; if one now drinks cold water, it feels warm on the lips and cold in the throat. On other occasions the predominant feeling is a rather pleasant coolness in the mouth and throat. [11] If cocaine is taken in large doses, it may produce negative physical symptoms such as chest pain, nausea, blurred vision, fever, muscle spasms, convulsions, coma, and death. Death can occur from convulsions, heart failure, or the loss of vital brain centers which control respiration. Cocaine is an extremely strong reinforcer, an appetitive stimulus, thus, the potential for abuse is very high. Therefore, it is clearly not a

  • 45. Nanotechnology And Its Effects On Cancer Essay Fundamentals of Nanotechnology Cancer claims more than half a million lives in the United States every year (National Cancer Institute). Cancer is commonly perceived to be a fatal illness that leads to a slow death. Many cancer patients have little or no hope when they are diagnosed with this devastating disease. However, there is a new breakthrough in combating cancer. This new strategy has brought renewed hope to millions of patients. Nanotechnology is the newest weapon in the war waged against cancer. Nanotechnology is defined by the National Nanotechnology Initiative as research and technology development at the atomic, molecular, or macromolecular scale leading to the controlled creation and use of structures, devices, and systems with a length scale of approximately 100 nm . Nanotechnology presents the potential to be extremely effective in aiding cancer research and treatment. The implementation of nanoparticles is a major development in the field of medicine, and its involvement in the fight against cancer has yielded positive results. Nanotechnology allows for precise targeting of malignant cells, which was a challenge in the past. Some complications remain, but these few can be eliminated through more research. Overall, nanotechnology presents a more safer and practical approach to eradicate tumors. The approach for eliminating cancer in the U.S. should not be surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy; instead, the use of nanotechnology to combat cancer

Taft during his presidency would go on to raise tariffs on resources that entered the United States with the Payne Aldrich Tariff Act of 1909 as well as have a controversy with Richard Ballinger who was the Secretary of the Interior and Gifford Pinchot, chief forester. This resulted in Pinchot being fired in which caused the Republican Party to separate even more than what it already was. Everything Taft did during his years in office made Roosevelt upset so when he came back from his 10 month trip in Africa he decided to run for president again to get Taft out of office but did so with a third party named the Progressive Party nicknamed the Bull Moose Party as Taft was the Republican candidate.
