Introduction For Compare And Contrast
Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Introduction for Compare and Contrast Essay" can be quite
challenging for several reasons. Firstly, crafting a strong introduction requires a clear
understanding of the subject matter and the specific points of comparison and contrast that will
be explored in the essay. This necessitates thorough research and analysis to gather relevant
information and identify key similarities and differences between the subjects being compared.
Additionally, structuring the introduction effectively to engage the reader and provide a
cohesive overview of the essay's argument can be demanding. It involves formulating a
compelling thesis statement that succinctly summarizes the main points of comparison and
contrast while capturing the reader's interest.
Moreover, achieving clarity and coherence in the introduction requires careful attention to detail,
including the use of appropriate transitions and language to smoothly guide the reader from the
introduction to the body paragraphs.
In summary, writing an effective introduction for a compare and contrast essay requires
comprehensive research, critical thinking, and proficient writing skills to present a compelling
argument in a clear and concise manner.

Mahatma Gandhi And The Indian National Congress
Mahatma Gandhi is a non violent protestor who joined a party called the Indian
National Congress. Gandhi is known for his famous speeches and how he
peacefully protested to gain his freedom and equal rights for all his fellow people
in India from the British. Gandhi s passion for wanting equal rights led everyone
to freedom in India in 1947 when Gandhi was 78. In South Asia a person regarded
with reverence or loving respect; a holy person or sage. Gandhi was born on
October 2nd 1869 in Probander, India. Mahatma came from a well put family, but
wasn t high on the social class. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, was a little
wealthy and had little material possession, but didn t leave anything behind for his
family. Gandhi s mother, Putlibai Gandhi, gave what they had to the poor and
spent most of her time nursing the sick. He went to school in Porbander until he
was seven years old and then he attended a public school in Rajkot until he was 10
years old. Then at seventeen he went to high school at Katyavar. Then after high
school he went to the University of Ahmedabad. At the age of nineteen he was sent
to England to continue Uni. in London. Gandhi married to Kasturba Gandhi in the
year of 1883 due to an arranged marriage. She ended up having two heart attacks
and spent most of her time in bed. Then in late February she died in the year of
1944. Gandhi and his wife ended up having four children. All of them being boys,

Death Be Not Proud By John Donne
The progression of societal beliefs regarding our approach towards death is dependent
upon the changing nature of both cultural and historical contexts. In Donne s Holy
Sonnet Death be not proud he uses second person narration to address Death as thou ,
thee and thy , death is not considered conceptually but anthropomorphised as the
poems fundamental pride. In Death be not proud , we see how the rumination of
death is shaped by Elizabethan values. Through the subverted Petrarchan structure
and style, Donne s use of apostrophe denigrates the omnipotence of death and lowers
its statue to the level of the poet. This corresponds with contextual religious values of
certainty in external afterlife and death as a transitory stage. This... Show more

Vivian s reversion to the punctuation, Death semicolon thou shalt die, is symbolic of
the 1990s literature culture wars, as Edson argues that a personal interpretation of the
text is crucial to understanding its virtues. This is seen as Donne s religious context
only saw a mere pause, comma, between life and eternal life, whereas, modern
existential beliefs see this transition as more potent and vivid, semicolon. This
uncertainty can be seen through the final stage directions, the instant she is naked
and beautiful, reaching for the light, which symbolises purity, peacefulness and hope.
Therefore, we see the modern context produce an uncertain, yet uplifting approach to
death. Donne s poem, The Sunne Rising, expounds how his view of life is shaped
by relationships. We see this as the poet defies the natural order by apostrophising the
Sun, Busie old foole. In Donne s context, the Sun was seen as the centre of the natural
world and the source of energy and life. Donne s irritated, jesting tone denounces the
Sun s power when compared with his lover. This is seen through the metaphorical
description, This bed thy centre is, these walls, thy sphere, which extrapolates the
apotheosistic nature of his relationship, and is
Torvald Argumentative Essay
Typically, women were also not allowed to be educated or gain knowledge outside
of the home because it was a man s world. Patriarchal society did not allow women
to have the same privileges as men. Consequently, women were ascribed the more
feminine duties of caring for the home and pursuing the outlets of feminine
creativity. Victorian men also expected women to possess feminine qualities as
well as innocence; otherwise, they would not be of marriage potential. Therefore,
Torvald takes pride in Nora being his beautiful child wife because this is the normal
cultural expectation. Torvald is only acting in the appropriate way of a Victorian

C. As quoted in a report by the Bureau of Prisons, ... Alcatraz served an important
purpose in taking the strain off the older and greatly overcrowded institutions... since
it enabled us to move the smaller, closely guarded escape artists, the big time
racketeers... and those who needed protection from other groups...
Now that you know the kind of prisoners that were sent to Alcatraz,
II. I will discuss life on the island and as an inmate in the prison.
A. Each prisoner received a copy of the Rules and Regulations for the
Government... Correctional Institutions as well as a copy of the warden s special
rules that explained the daily routine of work and counts. The inmates were
awakened at 6:30am to begin their day. They were required to clean up themselves
and their cell and required to shave three times a week.
B. Alcatraz was to be operated on the principle of very limited privileges to
inmates. The privilege of visitors had to be earned, and mail privileges were limited.
They each held jobs within the prison in the tailor shop, laundry, cobblers shop,
model shop, gardening, or help with the food prep in the mess hall.
C. Contrary to what the movies portray, there were no experiments made on the
prisoners, and the inmates that were transferred there were already twisted and
disturbed; Alcatraz didn t turn them into monsters. There was however, a dungeon
that prisoners were locked in if they misbehaved, and they also had a rule of silence,

Positive And Negative Effects Of Listening To Music
Throughout history, man has created and listened to music for many purposes. Music
has served to express emotions such as joy or sorrow, and has done so very
effectively. Music has been a tool of communication in this way, helping one man to
understand another and providing a medium of interconnection. Every known society
throughout history has had some form of music. Some would look at music as a
small footnote in the progression of humanity, it is in fact a much greater force;
for some, it defines their very existence (Andrew). The fact is, music is a driving
force in society; it has been present since the dawn of man. Andrew then explains
how though some results are questionable, the consensus view seems to be that
music has the capacity for both positive and negative effects. Listening to music as
a background activity has been shown to positively affect mood, productivity, and
even intelligence. Music can make us feel a certain way. Music sets moods and
creates atmospheres. So in short, music has the power to culturally, morally, and
emotionally influence our society. Andrew later speaks on Reverse Spins website
stating: simply listening to music in the background while doing an arduous task can
make it seem much easier, or in some cases [...] ease the strain of an activity (Olson).
Music has been proven to be effective in other ways like relaxation, anxiety and pain
in medicine and dentistry, and promoting well being through the production of
particular endorphins.
Beowulf As An Ultimate Hero

Beowulf: the archetypal (ultimate) hero Archetypal heroes are found in many
literary works, and in varied forms. In literary terms, a hero (male) or heroine
(female) is defined as a character that goes against adversity, has great strength,
courage, bravery, and who makes unselfish sacrifices, usually for the greater good.
The Collins English Dictionary defines archetypal as a perfect example of
something. Archetypes in literature was first applied by Carl Jung (1875 1961), a
Swiss psychiatrist. Jung recognized patterns in mythologies and stories regardless of
the time period that was covered by the literary work. Archetypal heroes present in
various forms including warriors, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is that characteristic to want to help others even if it means sacrificing your life,
that supports designating Beowulf as an archetypal hero. The 14 men that went with
Beowulf made up the band of companions or supporters of the hero that is typically
found in stories about heroes. Beowulf and his men were very brave. Bravery is
another characteristic of an archetypal hero. Upon safely reaching Denmark, the
great warrior, along with his men, devised a plan to trap and kill the monster.
Beowulf and Grendel came face to face in a good versus evil struggle. Heroes often
face a struggle of some sort (mental or physical).
Beowulf was very, very strong as heroes are. The evil monster was shocked at the
strength of Beowulf, not expecting to encounter one with such strength. Beowulf
ripped the monster s arm off. (Line #__) . Fearful for his life, Grendel struggled to
free himself from the grip of Beowulf. Grendel s one thought was to run from
Beowulf and flee... (314 315). Great strength, as exhibited by Beowulf and
recognized by Grendel, is yet another characteristic of an ultimate hero.
In a gesture of boasting (as archetypal heroes do), Beowulf put the monster s arm on
display like a trophy for all to see. Grendel was not dead, but Beowulf had caused
significant damage to the creature. Another example of Beowolf s strength and
courage is when the
Is Hamlet A Hero Or A Villain
The villain and the hero in any plot are basically the same person. The only
difference is that the hero settles for less and is content with what he has and the
villain always desires more and is discontent with his life. Many people are discontent
whether it be from not having enough money, not strong enough relationships, or
imperfect lifestyles. Hamletis discontent with his life and always asking and
scheming for more. The constant stream of wanting more eventually dries up and
Hamlet is left with nothing but bitter death and destruction. William Shakespeare
Hamlet to represent the discontentment and how never settling for anything and
always searching for more instead of being content leads to self destruction.
Each character gets caught up in their mental despair that tears them apart from the
inside out. Being a prince and having a kingdom to reign over, Hamlet desires to be
the hero and the great leader of his kingdom. After his father s death, His charmed
life suddenly feels dull and grey and Hamlet s sense of control is thrown off. His
strong craving for redemption causes him to see blindly when he is approached by
his phantom father. Instead of weighing the consequences and benefits of the ghost
s word Hamlet automatically believes that the only way to save the day and get the
glory is to kill his uncle. Hamlet s one track mind causes him eternal grief and
despair from the very start of the play all because he blindly follows the first
opportunity he
Performance-enhancing Drugs and Athletes
With the change of rules in sports throughout the many centuaries, the most advance
form of improving the ability of athletes is known as doping. Doping are
performance enhancing drugs which are used in sports. The uses of these drugs are
considered to be unethical as it gives competitors an unfair advantage. Sports is seen
as an activity based on full ethics and complete discipline.
With the invention of performance enhancing drugs in sports, it gives athletes a
greater opportunity of cheating. There are many different types of drugs however the
most common ones that are used include Steroids, Amphetamines, Stimulants,
Peptide Hormones, Human Growth Hormone and Insulin. Steroids and performance
enhancing drugs increase the amount of testosterone in the body. This allows the
body to develop a greater muscle growth and increase body mass. These drugs are
available in the form of pills or it can be injected as Anabolic steroids serve as a
supplement when entered in the body.
Athletes use steroids in order to be the best and remain as the best. Sports is a
competitive game in which athletes feel obliged to win and strive to become better
than others. Although the improvement of sports has increased greatly, there are
rules and regulations that must be followed. Sports include the protection of the
health and safety of the athletes. It also includes the respect for medical and sport
ethics. With unfair advantages due to medical conditions, it does not ensure an equal

U.s. Congressional Presidential System
Midterm 1
The U.S. system is a Congressional/Presidential design (not parliamentary), with
district based voting (not party list and proportional), with elections that are
historically candidate centered (as opposed to party centered), and a resulting
Congress where power is often, but not always, concentrated in committees (not party
leadership).
The comparison of the U.S. Congressional/Presidential system to parliamentarian
system can be traced back to Woodrow Wilsons Congressional Government, where he
viewed the British system as perfected party government system.
The United States Congressional/Presidential system has Congress as the central
power and is referred to as a singular form of governance with its own particular
characteristics, whereas the parliamentarian system is governed by Cabinet Ministry.
There is a definitive contrast illustrated between these two systems. One of them
being as the administration by semi independent executive agents who obey the
dictation of a legislature to which they are not responsible and another one as being
the administration be executive agents who are accredited leaders and accountable
servants of a legislature that are dominant in all things.
The essential difference between Congress and the parliamentarian system is that in
parliamentarian system legislatures have constitutional responsibilities for forming
the government structure. However, in such system, no government can function that
is unable to win a confidence
Symbolism and Theme in Everyday Use
The short story Everyday Use by Alice Walker differentiates between a fake and a
real heritage. To illustrate her point she uses one family consisting of a mother and
her two daughters and the way each of them views their ancestry and heritage.
Through the behavior of these three people Walker is able to clearly show the little
things that separate a real heritage from the assumed fake mask. During the time of
many positive changes to the lives of black people across the America, the author
illustrates what the true African Americanheritage should look like, compared to
empty claims by those who have no understanding it.
The first and perhaps the least complex of the symbols in the story is Mama s yard.
In the very beginning of the story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the same time, judging from the way that Dee acts throughout her visit, such
bonds to one s heritage can be easily broken or even completely destroyed. And
when these bonds are finally destroyed it becomes impossible for people like Dee
to understand the meaning of such little objects like the quilts in much the same
way as it is impossible for her to even understand the origins and the legacy of her
name. Again the history behind the quilts is really important so Mama describes
more of it: Bits and pieces of Grandpa Jarrell s paisley shirts. And one teeny faded
blue piece, about the size of a penny matchbox, that was from Great Grandpa Ezra s
uniform that he wore in the Civil War (495). Made out of many small pieces of
Maggie s and Dee s ancestors clothes, these quilts visually display the history of
their family, including all of the struggles such as war, racism and poverty
experienced by its members over last century. What makes these quilts even more
valuable and important is the fact that because of her poverty Mama considers her
heritage, contained in the things like these quilts, as the most important material
object in her possession. Therefore she decides that the best way to honor this
heritage would be to pass them to Maggie to be used like they were intended to by
those who made the quilts and the legacy contained inside of them. The quilts then
summarize the great and long heritage, passed on
Negative Effects Of Pollution
Pollution is a serious global issue that has occurred for as long as humans have
inhabited the planet. There are several different varieties of pollution, as well as an
abundance of materials, both natural and synthetic, that the earth is contaminated
with. Shifrin (2005) states: To date, wastes remain a fact of life and there are only
three places to dispose of wastes air, water, or land. Wastemanagement always
involves tradeoffs (p. 676). Even though Shifrin is correct in his analysis, it does not
excuse the amount of environmental poison that continues to exist today, nor the
amount of environmental problems that it has caused throughout history. The
tradeoffs of pollution have devastated entire communities, causing waves of... Show

polyethylene is stiffer, more durable and has a higher melting point than its low

different items of plastic, including pipes, toys, and the one that consumers use every
day in grocery stores: the plastic bag.
Issue of Concern
Plastic bags can be found by the hundreds in stores all across the country and in
many parts of the world, but what exactly is a plastic bag? According to Rujnic

lightness and durability, when the consumer no longer has need of them, they are
cast aside without a second thought. Littering is very common, and many individuals
simply don t care that they aren t being good stewards of the earth; this in turn can
have a disastrous impact on the environment as it can lead to potential cases of large
scale buildup in an emergency situation. In an article on plastic waste in the country
of Jordan, M. Saidan, H. Saidan and Ansour (2017) reveal:
In 2012 Amman s tunnels and streets were flooded by rainfall water within a few

The Japanese sent subs to Dutch Harbor. They sent some of their forces to a Dutch

that were sent to midway, and the carriers were in the back. Before the battle had
started, the Japanese stopped communication between each other, they stopped the
radio dialog between each other to stop the chances of the Americans on hearing
their plans. There was a fog of war that was over the Japanese when they started this,
they did not help each other, if the Americans mobilized to strike. The Americans
made a huge stride to victory when they figured out the messages from the Japanese
commander Admiral Yamamoto Isoroku, Japanese fleet commander, chose to invade
a target relatively close to Pearl Harbor to draw out the American fleet, calculating
that when the United States began its counterattack, the Japanese would be prepared
to crush them. Instead, an American intelligence breakthrough the solving of the
Japanese fleet codes enabled Pacific Fleet commander Admiral Chester W. Nimitz to
understand the exact Japanese plans. Nimitz placed available U.S. carriers in
position to surprise the Japanese moving up for their preparatory air strikes on
Midway Island itself (John Prados).

from communicating with you. If you can, also try to delete all of your messages

Articles on Cows and Methane Gas
Article Summary of articles on Cows and Methane Gas Summary: Imagine a cow
polluting our atmosphere all the time? It is a very real possibility. According to the
article, Methane emissions from cattle , cows produce anywhere from 250 to 500
liters of Methane per day. Although they aren t currently polluting as much as cars,
that doesn t mean they won t eventually. Many might think that cows emit more
methanegas from flatulence (or farting) but they actually emit more from belching.
(1) This problem is an important issue around the world. In 2003 New Zealand
even tried to put a tax on cow flatulence. In New Zealand cows and other livestock
produce 34% of their greenhouse gasses. It is said that by 2030, the percentage of
gas created by cows could be up by 60%. A cow is a type of animal called a
ruminant. Ruminants eat their food and throw it up as cud. After they have thrown
it up as cud they eat it again. Cows have four stomachs that they use for digestion
and they digest similarly to humans. The stomach of a cow is filled with bacteria
that helps them digest foods. Those bacteria also create massive amounts of
methane. (1) Scientists are searching hard to find a way to stop or reduce the gases
cows give out. The Carbon Farming Initiative even offers farmers money and other
incentives if they feed their cattle a certain way. They want cows to be eating more
tannins or oil. Tannins help lower the amount of methane significantly. Cows have an

Young merchants were encouraged to travel abroad at a young age so they can
become familiar with the region because later in life they would have to make a
decision to either stay in their home city or go live in a foreign city. Although
luxury goods continued to be imported from the Far East, merchants wanted to
produce exotic goods, such as silk cloth, within Europe (Langley 17). Most
merchants chose to live abroad because there was more business than in their

Tragic Heroism of Creon Essay
Aristotle once said that a Greek Tragedy must include an important person that has
a flaw. By this flaw, the audience should feel pity and fear. Creon, a character in
the Greek tragedy Antigone , resembles a perfect example of a tragic hero. This
play was written by Sophocles, a historic playwright during the 5th century. It begins
with the illegal burial of Polyneices, Antigone s beloved brother. Creon, the King of
Thebes, is coerced to condemn his niece Antigone to death. Being loyal to his city,
Creon follows through with his punishment of Antigone. By doing so, his character is
changed forever. Creon has the qualities of a tragic hero: he is a good person with
superior status, he has a tragic flaw, and he comes to realize the role he... Show more

As simple as that (Sophocles 7). This shows that Creon has the power to condemn
the people of his city to death and with his power he decides the fate of Antigone. By
having goodness and superiority Creon changes the lives of many characters, both
good and bad.
A tragic flaw is one of the most important qualities of a tragic hero. The change in
most of the characters was a result of Creon s tragic flaws. Creon may think he is
infallible, but really he has many flaws that lead to his downfall. The first is anger,
which causes Creon to make poor choices. After a heated debate with his son
Haemon, Creon becomes angry and says, I ll take her to a deserted spot / And bury
her alive in a trench (Sophocles 20). Through Creon s anger he influences
Antigone s death and by doing so, she commits suicide. Aside from having anger,
Creon is also a stubborn person. By his stubbornness he does not want to be
proven wrong so he says, You ll never persuade me to bury that corpse (Sophocles
24). He shows his stubbornness by saying that he will never change his mind about
Antigone. When Teiresias, the fortuneteller, hears this he explains to Creon that if
he does not change his mind he will cause another death. After hearing this Creon
must bury the body of Polyneices and free Antigone, because fate never lies. Little
does he know that he is too late and the prophecy comes true. The last tragic flaw of
Creon is that he is filled with temerity. Creon is
Memes and Life
We have three replicators 1. Genes 2. Memes 3. Fremes (I have called them that).
These three replicators are selfish in that they contiuously try to replicate.
In the book by Susan Blackmore, it is mentioned that the reason why we cannot stop
thinking is because there are too many memes in our memory that can find their
place in the brain. Hence, we continuously keep on thinking, but at the cost of higher
energy requirements. Indeed, thinking utilizes more brain power which in turn
requires more oxygen for which more blood flow is required. Hence, in a nutshell,
the more we think the more energy we consume and the more the genetically weaker
our genes become as we are wasting more energy. What we see here that these...

Hence, let us see how ideally we should be able to control these memes.
We need to control the gene replication. For this, the simple idea is not to produce
offsprings. Simple.
We need to control the meme replication. For this, we need to try to stop thinking.
Difficult, but practice makes us perfect, or so they say.
We need to control freme replication. For this, let me take you on this concept of a
time machine. The photon clock example. Yes. As our speed increases, the value
of the time decreases. This is all hypothetical and yes, impossible too. Later, I will
explain why. Nevertheless, the analogy is interesting. We are saying that the longer
the time the lesser number of ticks and hence smaller the value of time. This way.
So the longer the time, the more the control as you could possibly do things more
dexterously. So in order to control fremes, we need to decrease the meme activity
and increase the freme activity, i.e. decrease the value of time as frequency = 1/ Time.
So, what do we collect from all this?
In order to reach a higher state we should ideally be away from the greed of
This is what the ideal life of a saint is explained in the Jain text. Indeed, there are
various levels of spirituality explained in Jainism. You should not have a family, go to
an isolated place where you do not have anyone telling you things or you telling them
things. And then, concentrate and meditate continuously to

place form 1946 until 1964 when the birth rate finally tapered off. By 1964 there
were 76.4 million baby boomers in the United States which made up almost forty
percent of the nation population at the time (Baby Boomers). Baby Boomers make
up about 30 percent of the workforce today. Due to the proximity of their ages this
means they will all be retiring around the same time. This causes a major issue for
organizations: how will they transfer the knowledge base and skillset of their retiring
employees, the Baby Boomers, without the loss of production and efficiency? This
question needs to be answered and for these organizations, this means coming up with
a plan in order to transfer the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of one on one training would be the best way to minimize loss of
production and to maintain efficiency. Due to the one on one nature of the mentor
solution, the new employees would be able to get a full picture of the position

mentor program is individualized to the employee. They are able to learn the job at

Chicklider Biography
Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider
First of all, Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider, otherwise known as J.C.R or Lick, was
a curious kid who loved technological devices. This curious boy first saw the world
in March 11, 1915, the day of his birth. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri and was
the only child of Joseph Parron Licklider, a Baptist minister and teacher, and
Margaret Robnett Licklider, a homemaker. When he was 15 years old, he bought an
old car and took it apart multiple times in order to find its inner workings. He had a
normal childhood, and graduated at the public school system of University City in
June, 1932.
Soon after this event, Licklider managed to enroll at Washington University in St.

However, computers were still a rarity to have for personal use in 1960, so Licklider
decided that the most efficient way to use this technology was to have the computer
divide its time among many users. He wanted his vision to make the human to

Licklider was converted into the first director of the Information Processing
Techniques Office of the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the
Department of Defense, and launched a research program after his vision of man

Power Masks In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Different people put on a different mask depending on what part they are playing .
Whether that be with peers, friends, teachers or parents you change because of the
surroundings. Masks make you feel untouchable while you wear them, but when you
take the mask off you feel monstrous about the acts committed while wearing your
disguise. The power masks hold cannot be explained, they can turn the innocent into
the barbaric. Masks have been worn throughout history. A good example is the
German Nazi Swastika that symbolizes World War Two. The Nazi s Swastika
resembles their maskof genocide, deception, and tragedy. They wore this on their left
arm and felt domination. They did not feel remorse for the inhumane acts they
committed while hiding behind their masks. Once the war had completed, many
Germans felt disgrace for their actions. The novel Lord of the Flies, by William
Goldingwas published at about the same time World War Two was occurring.
Golding took ideas from the annihilation of the war and put it into the context of
his story. Some of his ideas were inspired from the cruelty of war. William Golding
was a British novelist, playwright, and poet known for his award winning book
Lord of the Flies, published in 1954. In Lord of the Flies, most of the boys
abandoned the civilized society they had always lived, and resorted to being savages.
Jack is known as the antagonist throughout the novel. He has made some very
questionable decisions and choices, which has allowed
Being A Varsity Cheerleader
Being a varsity cheerleader isn t always fun. Its great to hang with the girls and
cheer our team to victory, yet no one really sees behind the scenes. Anyone can be
a cheerleader, but, not everyone can a great cheerleader. As every freshman never
fails to display, there were countless times where I felt trapped within my body and
encompassed in self doubt. It has always taken me longer than the rest to grasp a
new routine or cheer. Took me about a full year to learn how to stunt and tumble. I
ve often felt that I was holding my team back from reaching its full potential by not
being at the skill level that many mastered in their elementary gymnastics days. I
found that drowning in my self pity only kept me at my current state: inadequate.
The Benefits Of Electronic Medical Records
Introduction The benefits of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) significantly
outweigh the disadvantages, when it comes to the nursing care of patients in multiple
settings. There have been multiple studies proving the enhancement and efficiency of
nursing care in various areas, when electronic documentation is properly taught and
utilized. Likewise, there is evidence supporting the reliability of the documentation,
after comparing nurses verbal accounts of previously recorded information. When the
programs used in electronic documentation are continually evaluated for
completeness, accuracy, and quality, they become excellent tools for legislation.
Electronic medical records present many advantages to the nursing care of a vast
majority of patients, and also help uphold satisfactory legal and ethical implications
of nursing documentation. Body (Review of Literature) Bruylands, Paans, Hediger,
MГјller Staub (2013) provide evidence of electronic health records improving the
nursing process. The purpose of their study was to assess the effectiveness of
electronic nursing documentation, when it was and was not coupled with an
instructive program. The experiment sampled electronic nursing documentation over
time, and ranked the groups in terms of accurateness of the nursing process. It was
shown that groups who were provided with continual education had a substantially
higher accuracy, when it came to using the nursing process. While all groups
benefited immensely from the

Jack the ripper the notorious and legendary London murderer started his reign of
terror in the August of 1888. Jack the ripper is a fairly difficult character to find
proper information on (regrettably noted) however his murders are not. It is
speculated that he killed more than five people but the Canonical five are a
definite. All of them where prostitutes from the Whitechapel area of London; a
poor and deteriorating side of town. The first of these murders was Mary Nichols
she was murdered on August 31st 1888 (www.jack the ripper.org). The murders
that happened after followed in this order. Annie Chapman was the second of the
five main victims she was murdered on September 8th 1888(www.jack the
ripper.org). The third and fourth victims shared the same day of death with a
peculiar twist. Jack the Ripper was known to deface and mutilate all the bodies in
which he slayed, Elizabeth Stride the third victim was wholly
intact(www.bbc.co.uk/history). Both Elizabeth Stride and Catherine Eddowes
died on the same day September 30th 1888(www.jack the ripper.org). The final
victim to be famously associated with the case of Jack the Ripper was Mary Kelly
who was killed on November 9th 1888. All of the victims were more than likely
unaware of their fates beforehand, he typically knocked them out before he would
kill and maim them. Jack the Ripper s scenes in which he left the corpses were
calculated, he was informed and educated on how it is he done what he did. It was
believed at the time that he was potentially a doctor or a butcher due to the tools
needed to do what was done to the bodies. In addition to this the cuts left on the body
showed that the killer had knowledge of the human anatomy and the way it worked.

Breast Calcification Research Paper
By Jonas Wilson, Ing. Med.
Diagnosing calcification
In addition to routine blood and biochemical tests to check for underlying factors
such as hypovitaminosis K, hypervitaminosis D or hypercalcemia, X rays (e.g. for
the breasts) and CT scans (e.g. for the brain) may be used to detect calcifying
deposits. The two types of breasts calcifications, macro and micro calcifications look
like large randomly dispersed dots and white specks on the mammogram (breast X
ray), respectively. Breast calcification tissue may be removed and biopsied in order
to rule out more serious pathologies such as cancer.
Arterial calcifications, for example in the coronary arteries, may be detected in vivo
(in a living person) by methods such as electron beam computed tomography (EBCT)
coronary arteriography, plain film X rays, fluoroscopy, intravascular ultrasound, MRI
and CT scan. EBCT and fluoroscopy are the most commonly used techniques in the
blood vessel investigations, while CT scans are very sensitive for the detection as
well as the localization of intracranial calcifications. Calcifications produce the
appearance of high density material on CT scans and X rays.
Non neoplastic dystrophic and metastatic calcifications caused by conditions such as
infections, trauma and neoplasms, appear with radiolucent centers on radiographs. ...

Cases of hypercalcemia can be further broken down into those that are PTH
dependent and PTH independent (parathyroid hormone). PTH is usually elevated in
physiological conditions when there is a drop of calcium in the blood and then

hyperparathyroidism. Furthermore, PTH related peptide (PTHrP), which is capable

Hiv Crisis
ABSTRACT
People who discover that they are HIV Positive are likely to be at higher risk for
experiencing a personal crisis. The crisis onset begins the moment the results are in
and it is determined that the person is HIV Positive. The flood of sudden emotions
caused by the traumatic event contributes to the beginning of a personal crisis.
Becoming identified as a person living with HIV can also lead to further issues it is
believed that people with HIV experience three types of crisis states. The first
crisis state is a situational crisis involving the initial reaction to being diagnosed
with HIV. Secondly, the developmental crisis in which a person is forced to face
the possibility of being ill and death. The last crisis stage is a social crisis
involving discrimination, isolation, and stigmas. These social crisis issues can lead

Positive regression in relationship between wing loading and rate of Silver maple
samaras
INTRODUCTION Ecological tradeoffs occur throughout a species lifespan, giving
little energy to one or more characteristics in order to focus energy and attention on a
separate characteristic. Three common characteristics found in an ecological tradeoff
include fecundity, age of reproductive maturity, and juvenile survivorship. Juvenile
survivorship is important, especially to Silver maple (Acer saccharinum) because a
species must have an adequate survival level to not become extinct (Molles 2010).
One way tree fruits have a juvenile survivorship is because of the varying seed
dispersal methods with which they find new ground to germinate. Secondary seed
dispersal describes the process when other organisms pick up, intentionally or not,
the seeds and carry them off to a new location to begin growing. Wind dispersion the
most common dispersal method among silver maple samaras, incorporating the
specialized design of the samara s seed coat (CITE). The hypothesis of the total
experiment is that as the mass of the samara increases, thus increasing the wing
loading, the rate of the samara will increase significantly.
METHODS
Study Site and Species Silver maple samaras contain fruits, or seeds, which are used
as a germination method. Silver maples are commonly found in Eastern North
America, spanning from eastern Kansas to southern

Steal The Baudelaire The Art Of Creativity
When individuals ask about creativity, typically they have pre conceived notion of
what is creativity. Studies from Business insider claims that school are trying to limit
creativity by forcing classes that are little to no interest to students. Those who
ponder the idea about what is truly creative are individuals who can be reason with.
The art of creativityis one s own perspective; what one accepts as ludicrous other
might believe to be brilliant. A ted talk by Sir Ken Robinson s proven this
statement by using a child who fidgets a lot as an example of how most saw her as
ill, but actually she s a talented dancer who later on became a prodigy in ballet. So,
if schools took away her creativity, then she wouldn t have reached her full potential.

Unlike math, science, history, and physical education classes, you can fully
examine your options. The novels, A series of unfortunate event shows how three

Count Olaf, the antagonist in this book series tires tirelessly to steal the
Baudelaire children s fortune. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny have studied in every
subject imaginable due to their parents status, but they have never taken a course
in creativity. If they had, life threatening situation like being trapped in a hospital,
or trying to escape from a slumbering wouldn t be as challenging. The Baudelaire
children are a prime example of how endless classes can all be useless if your ability
to adapt are adequate. If they even spend a fraction of their studying time for a
creative class, then their lives wouldn t always be in danger and fending for
themselves in reality would be easier. When Count Olaf trapped them inside a
burning hospital, voilet didn t notice and came up with a plan last second that
almost costed her sibling their lives. If they ve been taught that a creative class,
violet wouldn t have hesitated and her sibling would not have to risk their lives
while escaping. Additionally, when the Baudelaire were trying to decipher a code
from their friends, about where they are being kept prisoner when they ve been
captured by Count Olaf, if they had taken a class on creativity then the code would
of been a simple to them due to how its just basically a riddle. Unfortunately, due to
the fact that they ve never had any prior knowledge of expanding their mind beyond:
memorizing date for a class, remembering formulas, or learning names, failure is
inevitable. When the Baudelaire parents were alive, like the rest of society that
overlook the benefits of a class that truly can teach you more than simple education. It
would expand thinking to

Differences Between Modernism And Postmodernism
What are the key differences between Modernism and Postmodernism as architectural
movements?
I was looking at differences and similarity between the Modern and Post modern
Architectures movement in the 20th century s, and found inspiration in the
movements and the way the two movements has made a massive impact in the world
of Architecture world
Modernism Looking into the modern Architecture movement I found out that,
Modernism is the single most important new style or philosophy of architecture and
design of the 20th century, associated with an inquisitive approach to the function of
buildings, a strictly balanced use of materials, a move open approach to the structural
innovation and the dismissal of ornament. Modernism is also described to be rational
movement that, along with cultural trends and changes, upcoming from large scale

20th century, with efforts to restore the main values to emphasize on the architectural

perceived stereotypes before seeing the play were based on ones that I had from
reading the novel Frankenstein last year. I was stereotyping the setting of
Transylvania, the townspeople, and that Doctor Frankenstein would be a little
psychotic. My expectations to see the traditional story was far from accurate,
infact I was almost completely wrong. This play did not follow the life of Victor
Frankenstein, rather it was the story of his grandson hence the title Young
Frankenstein. Also, I learned about the young doctor from a big city who did not
want to be affiliated with his families name; however, after visiting his grandfather
s estate in Transylvania and seeing how truly genius he was, things changed. The
musical depicts cultures of a big city (New York) and a small town (Transylvania).
The audience can see clearly how different these two cities are just by the
surrounding characters in these scenes. Many of my views were changed throughout
this play. The comedy through the actors influenced my attitude towards the
townspeople of Transylvania. It also made me see how in different places people do

The Controversy Of Kurt Cobain s Death
For over 20 years we have been told by media, investigators, and even those closest
to Kurt Cobain himself that his death was a suicide, but as more details are
revealed and more people come forward, there is one question that hangs in the air:
Was Kurt Cobain murdered? On April 8, 1994, Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain
was found dead in the greenhouse of his home in Seattle, Washington. According
to the coroner that examined Cobain, he had been dead about three days before he
was found (Grove). Only just four days before his death, he escaped from Exodus
Recovery Center, where he was staying to get help for his drug addiction. The
same day that he escaped was the last day that he ever spoke to his wife, Courtney
Love. Although it is widely believed that Kurt Cobain killed himself, with all the
facts and evidence provided, it is apparent and obvious that Courtney Love killed
Kurt Cobain. To begin, Kurt and Courtney s marriage was failing. This was
something that everyone around them could see. Kurt had been planning to divorce
Courtney and then move out of the country. This exasperated Courtney, causing her
to want to get back at Kurt for wanting to leave her and their two year old daughter.

himself. Doctors all agree that as soon as that much heroin hit his system, he would
have either immediately gone unconscious or even died. Also, there were no
fingerprints on the shotgun he used to kill himself. How could that be possible if he
shot himself with it? Someone was obviously trying to cover their

(presumably in the case of John the Baptist) and that she would doubtless...do it

remember the owner s name. So she calls for the maid has breakfast, and decides to
clean up her life. As part of this regime, she decides to get rid of her lover and the
poem ends as she pulls back the sheets sticky with blood, to find his head on a

The Threat Of Good Example
US armed intervention seeks mainly to counter the threat of good example .
Chomsky suggests the real domino theory refers not to the threat of communism
spreading, but the idea that a country may develop a successful socialist state and
economy independent from the US, thus setting an example for other countries where
the US has economic interests. This may result in a domino effect where these other
countries are influenced to do the same and develop independence from the US, thus
threatening US hegemony. There are two types of domino effects: the threat of
communismwhich is used to justify US intervention to the public, and the actual
threat of good example which motivates US to suppress socialist movements in
countries like Guatemala, East Timor, Laos, Grenada, and Nicaragua. The real
motives for US intervention are therefore for its own material and strategic gains,
under the pretense of propagating the ideas of freedom and democracy.
The NIEO pushed by the Third Worldstates challenged the systemic favour First
World states had in the international economy, by seeking different terms and means
to trade. Some policies include obtaining a legal framework that ensured greater
sovereignty over their natural resources through the nationalising of mining and oil.
Additionally, Third World states, dependent on exporting primary sector
commodities, proposed that the prices of these commodities be politically negotiated
rather than set by the market, because wealth
The Road to Hell
Case Summary
The case Road to Hell by Gareth Evans is a story that involved two characters with
different backgrounds, personalities and points of view. John Baker, an English
expatriate, is a successful western chief engineer in the Caribbean Bauxite Company
of Barracania.
Baker thinks he has an edge in working in a foreign country because he was
experience in understanding a regional staff s psychology and knowing exactly how
to get along with locals. Bakers has been working hard to prepare Matthew Rennalls,

His career development and his family background in political field might help the

communication within Barracanian and European which the Barracanian would think
that the racism of European had caused the resignation of Rennalls. Therefore, the
misunderstanding will continue to rise. Baker should also make another discussion
or meeting with Rennalls before hiring him back. This step should be taken to explain
the misunderstanding that happened and also to prevent another similar incident to
happen again. However, the consultation is needed for Baker to build up a better
communication skills before having a conversation with Rennalls again.

Similarities Between Touching Spirit Bear And Touching...
I ve never committed a crime, but author Ben Mikaelsen made me feel as if I was
right there in the library waiting for my final judgement for beating a poor little
kid. The book Touching Spirit Bear and its sequel The Ghost of Spirit Bear are
both books written by novelist Ben Mikaelsen about two boys and their
intertwined life. The first book takes place when teen delinquent Cole Matthews
beats up a boy at school named Peter for telling on him. Peter s injury leads to a
permanent speech impediment and because of this Cole goes to jail. When Cole s
probation officer, Garvey, tells about a tribal version of punishment called Circle
Justice, which is where the two people involved in the crime must heal together,
and move forward from their quarrel, Cole jumps at the idea to get out of jail.
When this doesn t work they decide to send Cole to an Alaskan island, which Peter
is eventually sent to. Eventually they become friends and they get past their
problems. It is the next book where they face challenges of going back to school and
fitting in.
There are several parallels between the two books. One such parallel is that in both
books Peter and Cole experience some form of hardship. On example is that in
Touching Spirit Bear on pages 246 and 247, it says, When Cole refused to fight back,
Peter grew bolder. Again and again he struck Cole with his bare fists. Cole raised
his arms to try to ward off the blows, but he didn t fight back, nor did he run. This

Censorship Of Cargo Ships
Piracy on the open seas is becoming more threatening by the day. Ships are being
hijacked and being sold for ransom for millions of dollars. With ways that are being
developed to help protect ships such as fire hoses, flares, and barbed wire along the
rails of the boats. They still do not guarantee a safe ride for the cargo and crew
onboard. Cargo ships should be allowed to carry weapons to protect from pirates and
other intruders.
Some say that there is a very slim chance of a ship being attacked by pirates. There
are over 50,000 cargo ships all around the world so what are the chances?(Curry
n.p.) But, more and more ships are being captured around the world each day and
those ships need to be protected 271 ships were hijacked off the coast of Somalia
in 2009, which is over 500 million dollars is cargo.(Gale n.p). Because of this, the
shipping companies are losing money by trying to transport things to people in
need. The famous story of Captain Phillips is very extraordinary because their ship
was carrying food, water, and medical aid supplies to people in Africa. (US. Navy n.p)

According to the United States Cargo industry, each shipment of cargo costs
between 5 10 million dollars. By placing armed guards on all ships, it will save
million of dollars each year to protect the boat. (U.S Cargo n.p).The average price
of a security system such as electric fencing around a boat can cost up to $200,000
to install and maintain. But electricity is dangerous because of the ocean water
splashing on the deck which may electrocute people in that area.(The Telegraph n.p).
Another method of repelling pirates is a net that is dropped over the side and gets
stuck in the propeller of the pirates boat. (The Telegraph n.p) Animals may be caught
in the net and be left to suffer in the tangling
What Is The Value Of Life Essay
The Value of Life Essay
When it comes to an individual s life nobody ever really thinks about death nor do
they think about what their families might have to deal with after they pass away. It
isn t until this certain type of situation involves them, that people speak their
opinions. Often when someone speaks about the value of an individual s life, they are
referring to the amount of compensation a family will get for their loved one s death.
There are many people who believe a person s life should not have a price tag on it
or that the value of someone s life is far beyond just money. One man who believed
that there was more to the value of life than just money was Roger Ebert. Not only
were people directly voicing their opinions but they were also doing it throw
television such as the show Elementary. Both of those subjects somehow incorporate
their thoughts on the value of life based on their personal and public experiences.
The article Roger Ebert: The Essential Man by Chris Jones includes information
that Ebert gave about himself during an interview. During the interview, Ebert also
managed to express his opinion on the value of life. Roger Ebert was a film critic
who loved his job but didn t realize how much he loved it until he became sick with
cancer and developed different health issues. His hardships in life were what caused
him to really open up his mind and realize how valuable his life was to him. In his
experience he didn t think about the value of life
Geographic Information Systems ( Gis )
Since the dawn of time, humanity has always been interested in discovering,
locating and delineating the whereabouts of the world in which it lives. This is why
man decided to create the map. For centuries, maps were created by hand to depict
various known locations locally or globally. Now, with the advent of new technology,
maps can easily be generated by a computer, especially through using GIS
(Geographic Information Systems) software.
I have always been fascinated by maps, geography, and understanding how
everything is arranged in the world. Since GIS allows for the creation of maps
depicting the arrangements of an area in the world using geographic data, there is
nothing else in this world I could be more passionate about.
Geographic Information Systems pose many benefits to mankind. For instance, it has
helped farms adequately provide the food we need for nourishment. GIS helps
farmers make informed decisions on the best locations to farm and what benefits the
lands can provide them, hence increasing their food production. The GIS software
can be used to map land digitally while collecting important information needed to
grow crops such as the topography or lay of the land combined with other statistical
data allowing for easier analysis of the soil. In turn, this makes it easier for farmers
to not only decide what and where to plant but also how to improve their methods of
crop production so that they can earn more and better feed the world.
GIS can also be

When I saw that a primary focus of their company was to provide vehicle related
products at the right price , I was expecting to see things more representative of this
on the website. I was expecting to see information about the number of parts that the
chain sells every year, and maybe some additional information about what makes
their prices competitive. Unfortunately, all I could find on their website was
information about the number of stores they have nationally (1,300), and how many
employees they have (74,000). I noticed also that each of their stores is
independently owned, which may be a significant reason why the company may not
be able to easily translate its mission into goals and objectives through each of its
Gucci s Impact On The Fashion Industry
Gucci happens to be one of the most sought after brands in the industry. The latter
emanates from the fact that Gucci is classified as one of the most successful brands
in the fashion industry, owing to the fact that its products are of top notch quality
(Bhasin). Being a household name for quite some time now, Gucciprides itself in
having a huge customer base on the global scene especially after changing designers,
a fact that contributes greatly to its increase in sales which translate to subsequent
profits (Cartner Morley; Bowles). While it can be arguably said that Gucci is a force
to reckon with in the fashionscene, a lot of factors affect the operations of this
company, both internally (micro) and externally (macro... Show more content on

In the same magazine, Gucci was listed as a very valuable fashion brand with
estimate revenue of 12.7 Billion Dollars (Forbes). The two companies show a very
spirited competition which is only demarcated by an estimated revenue difference of
5 billion dollars. This, then, means that with such high competition in the industry,
Gucci can never, at any one time, sit pretty thinking that it runs the fashion scene far
from it other worthy brands are selling out there they have the ability to supersede
Gucci in the short and long run.
Potential of new entrants into the industry It indeed goes without saying that there
already exist plenty of fashion companies and houses in the prevailing fashion
industry (Pratap). What this says is that the industry allows for free and unrestrained
entry into the market. Conversely, the potential of the likelihood of these new
entrants to be worthy adversaries and competitors in the industry (Pratap). New
entrants, as Pratap postulates, have mountains to move before they can be afforded a
front row seat in the industry. Pratap however appreciates that the creativity of new
entrants in the market could see these new entrants offer worthy competition to the
already existing fashion companies. In addition, Pratap advances that resources are
major constraints to these new entrants as they often have to make plenty of
investments. This is at the wake of plenty of bills to pay which include the
Female Stereotypes The Cause Of Women s Oppression
Peter Pan: Female Stereotypes the cause of Women s Oppression
The movie Peter Pan (1953) is about how Wendy and her brothers believe in silly
fantasies but to her dad it seems to be problem since Wendy is already a young lady
and needs to act more like her own age and stop acting like a little girl. So Peter Pan
takes Wendy and her brothers to Neverlandso they never have to grow up. He takes
her so she could be a mother to the lost kids in Neverland. While they are th they
have many fun experiences like meeting mystical creatures for example mermaids
and fairies.Wendy uses this experience to realize she can t stay a kid forever and
that she has to go back and grow up. To anyone this movie is nothing more than a
movie for children, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an example of hegemonic feminine ideology because they put out Wendy s
mom to be the typical housewife that agrees with whatever her husband says. This
shows how women are supposed to be submissive and do as they are told by their
husbands. But it also shows how women are suppose be more silent than men and
are not meant to speak out what they think and how women are never in charge.
They do this to show that the women always have to support the men in whatever
they are doing. They always have to be one s cheering for them. Society has the
idea of women always having to be the supporters of whatever their men are doing
they have to be right there along them supporting them and cheering them on
because according to society that is the women s job. Later on in the movie
Wendy tells Peter Pan it is her last day in the nursery room because she has to grow
up and Peter Pan tells her to go to Neverland where she doesn t have to grow up but
Wendy tells him what would her mother say if she left but she has to explain to
Peter what a mother is since he doesn t know. So she tells him Why, Peter, a mother
is someone who.. Who loves and cares for you and tells you stories. (0:14:42) and
right away Peter s answer is Good! You can be our mother. (0:14:46) Basically what

Guantanamo Bay
Guantanamo Bay sits on what was once called Oriente Province. Located on the
southeast corner of the island country of Cuba. Oriente Province has since been
divided into five distinct provinces, Las Tunas, Holguin, Granma, Santiago de Cuba,
and Guantanamo. Guantanamo Bay is situated in the belt of the Caribbean trade
winds; it receives sea breezes from the southeast during the afternoons, and shortly
after sunset, the wind changes to a northerly direction and becomes a land breeze.
The constant breezes help to keep the bay cooler than most semi arid deserts.
However, the mountains that surround the bay to the west, north, and east shelter it
from cloud systems, thus producing less precipitation and maintaining the lands

Still to this day the Marines and Cuba s Frontier Brigade still man the fence line 24
hours a day. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, October 1962 to December 1962
family members of the service people were evacuated to the U.S. as President
Kennedy announced the presence of Soviet missiles in Cuba. In 1964 Fidel Castro
cut off the water supply to the base, in retaliation of some Cuban fishermen getting
fined for fishing in Florida waters. So water had to be shipped in to the base. Fidel
Castro accused the United States, of stealing water. So base commander John D.
Bulkeley had a portion of the supply pipe excavated and an 18 inch portion of the
pipe was cut and removed, to prove that water was not being stolen from Cuba. The
hole was never filled in and the pipe is still exposed, at the northeastern corner of
the base, where the Marines sleep when they are on the fence line duty. Since the
water was shut off, Guantanamo Bay has been self sufficient, and produces 3.4
million gallons of water daily at its desalination plant and more than 800,000
kilowatt hours of electricity daily, with the help of the four 262 feet tall wind

I m going to be honest with you, my opinion on skinheads is simple, they are the
most racist, awful people who walked this planet. They cause havoc to all the

can t just say that just because some people do it, not all of them are like that!
sadly THAT IS FALSE, saying you are one of them is saying that you support their

Richard Hare s Moral Judgement
Richard Hare is one of most foremost contemporary defenders of utilitarianism
today. He is committed to the principle of utility to the act which does more good,
gives greater benefit, or which satisfies more preferences, or the stronger of two or
more preferences. (Hare, 1981). This essay will discuss how the Philosopher, Richard
Hare, derives preference utilitarianism from moral judgement aspects such as
prescriptivity and universalizability using various different example(s) to explain and
create understanding, and finally the essay will be concluded as to how Richard Hare
derived preference utilitarianism. Richard Hare somewhat supported emotivism
meaning one s moral actions is prompted by attitudes. (Satris, 1982). According to
Ayer s theory of emotivism, the meaning of moral statements is not important, but
rather what moral language actually does. Moral language focuses on two different
forms of questions, namely: Formal questions and Substantive questions; Formal
questions appeal to form and values and make use of the word ought , whereas
Substantive questions are statements of factual content. Hume extends on this by
suggesting that opposing parties can argue about factual content, but not necessarily
one s values. Therefore Hare places emphasis on and focuses primarily on the form
of moral language, in other words, formal language and questions. According to Hare
(1952), moral language has rules, and if there is an understanding of those rules the

The Gothic Elements in the Picture of Dorian Gray
Abstract In an attempt to find out the purposes of the gothic elements in The Picture
of Dorian Gray, this essay takes a close look at the three most prevailing gothic
elements in the novel: the portrait, decadence, and the gothic villain by first exploring
their presence and development throughout, and then examining their contributions to
the characters, the plot development and the themes. First of all, the unique properties
and symbolic meanings of the portrait in this novel are discussed. The purpose of the
portrait is then analyzed in terms of its effect on Dorian Gray. Then, the theme of
decadence is identified in the personality of the protagonist. Its purpose is then

, was clearly reflected in his portrait. Under Lord Henry s influence, Dorian s
change in his mental state and moral values was dramatic. He learned to appreciate
decadent art, to conform to the philosophy of to cure the soul by means of senses
by going to opium dens and eventually to completely submit to sin by murdering
Basil Hallward. Although Dorian s decay was hard to observe because his beauty
remained intact and thus created an innocent image of him, the portrait recorded his
inner change by altering his appearances, as we observe for the first time in the
novel the touch of cruelty round the warped lips in the painting after the death of
Sybil Vane. The painting provided Dorian a double life, as remarked in Into the
Demon Universe: A Literary Exploration of Oscar Wilde: The picture of his soul was
locked safely away in a dark room while the innocent face he presented to
respectable society was only a mask. Indeed, the portrait became the spokesperson of
Dorian s true personality by altering his appearances according to his corruption of
the mind.
A more convincing evidence of the portrait being a reflection of Dorian s moral
decadence lies moments before the death of Dorian. At the night of his death, Dorian
attempted to convince himself that he had indeed changed and had started committing

Gandhi s passion for wanting equal rights led everyone to freedom in India in 1947 when Gandhi was 78. In South Asia a person regarded with reverence or loving respect; a holy person or sage. Gandhi was born on October 2nd 1869 in Probander, India. Mahatma came from a well put family, but wasn t high on the social class. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, was a little wealthy and had little material possession, but didn t leave anything behind for his family. Gandhi s mother, Putlibai Gandhi, gave what they had to the poor and spent most of her time nursing the sick. He went to school in Porbander until he was seven years old and then he attended a public school in Rajkot until he was 10 years old. Then at seventeen he went to high school at Katyavar. Then after high school he went to the University of Ahmedabad. At the age of nineteen he was sent to England to continue Uni. in London. Then in late February she died in the year of 1944. Gandhi and his wife ended up having four children. All of them being boys, Harilal Gandhi, Devdas Gandhi, Manilal Gandhi, and Ramdas
  • 3. Death Be Not Proud By John Donne The progression of societal beliefs regarding our approach towards death is dependent upon the changing nature of both cultural and historical contexts. In Donne s Holy Sonnet Death be not proud he uses second person narration to address Death as thou , thee and thy , death is not considered conceptually but anthropomorphised as the poems fundamental pride. In Death be not proud , we see how the rumination of death is shaped by Elizabethan values. Through the subverted Petrarchan structure and style, Donne s use of apostrophe denigrates the omnipotence of death and lowers its statue to the level of the poet. This corresponds with contextual religious values of certainty in external afterlife and death as a transitory stage. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vivian s reversion to the punctuation, Death semicolon thou shalt die, is symbolic of the 1990s literature culture wars, as Edson argues that a personal interpretation of the text is crucial to understanding its virtues. This is seen as Donne s religious context only saw a mere pause, comma, between life and eternal life, whereas, modern existential beliefs see this transition as more potent and vivid, semicolon. This uncertainty can be seen through the final stage directions, the instant she is naked and beautiful, reaching for the light, which symbolises purity, peacefulness and hope. Therefore, we see the modern context produce an uncertain, yet uplifting approach to death. Donne s poem, The Sunne Rising, expounds how his view of life is shaped by relationships. We see this as the poet defies the natural order by apostrophising the Sun, Busie old foole. In Donne s context, the Sun was seen as the centre of the natural world and the source of energy and life. Donne s irritated, jesting tone denounces the Sun s power when compared with his lover. This is seen through the metaphorical description, This bed thy centre is, these walls, thy sphere, which extrapolates the apotheosistic nature of his relationship, and is
  • 4. Torvald Argumentative Essay Typically, women were also not allowed to be educated or gain knowledge outside of the home because it was a man s world. Patriarchal society did not allow women to have the same privileges as men. Consequently, women were ascribed the more feminine duties of caring for the home and pursuing the outlets of feminine creativity. Victorian men also expected women to possess feminine qualities as well as innocence; otherwise, they would not be of marriage potential. Therefore, Torvald takes pride in Nora being his beautiful child wife because this is the normal cultural expectation. Torvald is only acting in the appropriate way of a Victorian male. Nora is his possession, as stated in the academic journal, The Use of Symbolic Language in Ibsen s

As quoted in a report by the Bureau of Prisons, ... Alcatraz served an important purpose in taking the strain off the older and greatly overcrowded institutions... since it enabled us to move the smaller, closely guarded escape artists, the big time racketeers... and those who needed protection from other groups... Now that you know the kind of prisoners that were sent to Alcatraz, II. I will discuss life on the island and as an inmate in the prison. A. Each prisoner received a copy of the Rules and Regulations for the Government... Correctional Institutions as well as a copy of the warden s special rules that explained the daily routine of work and counts. The inmates were awakened at 6:30am to begin their day. They were required to clean up themselves and their cell and required to shave three times a week. B. Alcatraz was to be operated on the principle of very limited privileges to inmates. The privilege of visitors had to be earned, and mail privileges were limited. They each held jobs within the prison in the tailor shop, laundry, cobblers shop, model shop, gardening, or help with the food prep in the mess hall. C. Contrary to what the movies portray, there were no experiments made on the prisoners, and the inmates that were transferred there were already twisted and disturbed; Alcatraz didn t turn them into monsters. There was however, a dungeon that prisoners were locked in if they misbehaved, and they also had a rule of silence, where they could not
  • 6. Positive And Negative Effects Of Listening To Music Throughout history, man has created and listened to music for many purposes. Music has served to express emotions such as joy or sorrow, and has done so very effectively. Music has been a tool of communication in this way, helping one man to understand another and providing a medium of interconnection. Every known society throughout history has had some form of music. Some would look at music as a small footnote in the progression of humanity, it is in fact a much greater force; for some, it defines their very existence (Andrew). The fact is, music is a driving force in society; it has been present since the dawn of man. Andrew then explains how though some results are questionable, the consensus view seems to be that music has the capacity for both positive and negative effects. Listening to music as a background activity has been shown to positively affect mood, productivity, and even intelligence. Music can make us feel a certain way. Music sets moods and creates atmospheres. So in short, music has the power to culturally, morally, and emotionally influence our society. Andrew later speaks on Reverse Spins website stating: simply listening to music in the background while doing an arduous task can make it seem much easier, or in some cases [...] ease the strain of an activity (Olson). Music has been proven to be effective in other ways like relaxation, anxiety and pain in medicine and dentistry, and promoting well being through the production of particular endorphins.
  • 7. Beowulf As An Ultimate Hero Emon Nguyen Mrs. Hunter English 12 19 September 2017 Beowulf: the archetypal (ultimate) hero Archetypal heroes are found in many literary works, and in varied forms. In literary terms, a hero (male) or heroine (female) is defined as a character that goes against adversity, has great strength, courage, bravery, and who makes unselfish sacrifices, usually for the greater good. The Collins English Dictionary defines archetypal as a perfect example of something. Archetypes in literature was first applied by Carl Jung (1875 1961), a Swiss psychiatrist. Jung recognized patterns in mythologies and stories regardless of the time period that was covered by the literary work. Archetypal heroes present in various forms including warriors, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is that characteristic to want to help others even if it means sacrificing your life, that supports designating Beowulf as an archetypal hero. The 14 men that went with Beowulf made up the band of companions or supporters of the hero that is typically found in stories about heroes. Beowulf and his men were very brave. Bravery is another characteristic of an archetypal hero. Upon safely reaching Denmark, the great warrior, along with his men, devised a plan to trap and kill the monster. Beowulf and Grendel came face to face in a good versus evil struggle. Heroes often face a struggle of some sort (mental or physical). Beowulf was very, very strong as heroes are. The evil monster was shocked at the strength of Beowulf, not expecting to encounter one with such strength. Beowulf ripped the monster s arm off. (Line #__) . Fearful for his life, Grendel struggled to free himself from the grip of Beowulf. Grendel s one thought was to run from Beowulf and flee... (314 315). Great strength, as exhibited by Beowulf and recognized by Grendel, is yet another characteristic of an ultimate hero. In a gesture of boasting (as archetypal heroes do), Beowulf put the monster s arm on display like a trophy for all to see. Grendel was not dead, but Beowulf had caused significant damage to the creature. Another example of Beowolf s strength and courage is when the
  • 8. Is Hamlet A Hero Or A Villain The villain and the hero in any plot are basically the same person. The only difference is that the hero settles for less and is content with what he has and the villain always desires more and is discontent with his life. Many people are discontent whether it be from not having enough money, not strong enough relationships, or imperfect lifestyles. Hamletis discontent with his life and always asking and scheming for more. The constant stream of wanting more eventually dries up and Hamlet is left with nothing but bitter death and destruction. William Shakespeare Hamlet to represent the discontentment and how never settling for anything and always searching for more instead of being content leads to self destruction. Each character gets caught up in their mental despair that tears them apart from the inside out. Being a prince and having a kingdom to reign over, Hamlet desires to be the hero and the great leader of his kingdom. After his father s death, His charmed life suddenly feels dull and grey and Hamlet s sense of control is thrown off. His strong craving for redemption causes him to see blindly when he is approached by his phantom father. Instead of weighing the consequences and benefits of the ghost s word Hamlet automatically believes that the only way to save the day and get the glory is to kill his uncle. Hamlet s one track mind causes him eternal grief and despair from the very start of the play all because he blindly follows the first opportunity he

  • 12. U.s. Congressional Presidential System Midterm 1 The U.S. system is a Congressional/Presidential design (not parliamentary), with district based voting (not party list and proportional), with elections that are historically candidate centered (as opposed to party centered), and a resulting Congress where power is often, but not always, concentrated in committees (not party leadership). The comparison of the U.S. Congressional/Presidential system to parliamentarian system can be traced back to Woodrow Wilsons Congressional Government, where he viewed the British system as perfected party government system. The United States Congressional/Presidential system has Congress as the central power and is referred to as a singular form of governance with its own particular characteristics, whereas the parliamentarian system is governed by Cabinet Ministry. There is a definitive contrast illustrated between these two systems. One of them being as the administration by semi independent executive agents who obey the dictation of a legislature to which they are not responsible and another one as being the administration be executive agents who are accredited leaders and accountable servants of a legislature that are dominant in all things. The essential difference between Congress and the parliamentarian system is that in parliamentarian system legislatures have constitutional responsibilities for forming the government structure. However, in such system, no government can function that is unable to win a confidence
  • 13. Symbolism and Theme in Everyday Use The short story Everyday Use by Alice Walker differentiates between a fake and a real heritage. To illustrate her point she uses one family consisting of a mother and her two daughters and the way each of them views their ancestry and heritage. Through the behavior of these three people Walker is able to clearly show the little things that separate a real heritage from the assumed fake mask. During the time of many positive changes to the lives of black people across the America, the author illustrates what the true African Americanheritage should look like, compared to empty claims by those who have no understanding it. The first and perhaps the least complex of the symbols in the story is Mama s yard. In the very beginning of the story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the same time, judging from the way that Dee acts throughout her visit, such bonds to one s heritage can be easily broken or even completely destroyed. And when these bonds are finally destroyed it becomes impossible for people like Dee to understand the meaning of such little objects like the quilts in much the same way as it is impossible for her to even understand the origins and the legacy of her name. Again the history behind the quilts is really important so Mama describes more of it: Bits and pieces of Grandpa Jarrell s paisley shirts. And one teeny faded blue piece, about the size of a penny matchbox, that was from Great Grandpa Ezra s uniform that he wore in the Civil War (495). Made out of many small pieces of Maggie s and Dee s ancestors clothes, these quilts visually display the history of their family, including all of the struggles such as war, racism and poverty experienced by its members over last century. What makes these quilts even more valuable and important is the fact that because of her poverty Mama considers her heritage, contained in the things like these quilts, as the most important material object in her possession. Therefore she decides that the best way to honor this heritage would be to pass them to Maggie to be used like they were intended to by those who made the quilts and the legacy contained inside of them. The quilts then summarize the great and long heritage, passed on

According to the article, Methane emissions from cattle , cows produce anywhere from 250 to 500 liters of Methane per day. Although they aren t currently polluting as much as cars, that doesn t mean they won t eventually. Many might think that cows emit more methanegas from flatulence (or farting) but they actually emit more from belching. (1) This problem is an important issue around the world. In 2003 New Zealand even tried to put a tax on cow flatulence. In New Zealand cows and other livestock produce 34% of their greenhouse gasses. It is said that by 2030, the percentage of gas created by cows could be up by 60%. A cow is a type of animal called a ruminant. Ruminants eat their food and throw it up as cud. After they have thrown it up as cud they eat it again. Cows have four stomachs that they use for digestion and they digest similarly to humans. The stomach of a cow is filled with bacteria that helps them digest foods. Those bacteria also create massive amounts of methane. (1) Scientists are searching hard to find a way to stop or reduce the gases cows give out. The Carbon Farming Initiative even offers farmers money and other incentives if they feed their cattle a certain way. They want cows to be eating more tannins or oil. Tannins help lower the amount of methane significantly. Cows have an easier time with fiber

Creon, a character in the Greek tragedy Antigone , resembles a perfect example of a tragic hero. This play was written by Sophocles, a historic playwright during the 5th century. It begins with the illegal burial of Polyneices, Antigone s beloved brother. Creon, the King of Thebes, is coerced to condemn his niece Antigone to death. The change in most of the characters was a result of Creon s tragic flaws. Creon may think he is infallible, but really he has many flaws that lead to his downfall. The first is anger, which causes Creon to make poor choices. After a heated debate with his son Haemon, Creon becomes angry and says, I ll take her to a deserted spot / And bury her alive in a trench (Sophocles 20). Through Creon s anger he influences Antigone s death and by doing so, she commits suicide. Aside from having anger, Creon is also a stubborn person. By his stubbornness he does not want to be proven wrong so he says, You ll never persuade me to bury that corpse (Sophocles 24). He shows his stubbornness by saying that he will never change his mind about Antigone. When Teiresias, the fortuneteller, hears this he explains to Creon that if he does not change his mind he will cause another death. After hearing this Creon must bury the body of Polyneices and free Antigone, because fate never lies. Little does he know that he is too late and the prophecy comes true. The last tragic flaw of Creon is that he is filled with temerity. Creon is

In the book by Susan Blackmore, it is mentioned that the reason why we cannot stop thinking is because there are too many memes in our memory that can find their place in the brain. Hence, we continuously keep on thinking, but at the cost of higher energy requirements. Indeed, thinking utilizes more brain power which in turn requires more oxygen for which more blood flow is required. Hence, in a nutshell, the more we think the more energy we consume and the more the genetically weaker our genes become as we are wasting more energy. What we see here that these... So the longer the time, the more the control as you could possibly do things more dexterously. So in order to control fremes, we need to decrease the meme activity and increase the freme activity, i.e. decrease the value of time as frequency = 1/ Time. So, what do we collect from all this? The two types of breasts calcifications, macro and micro calcifications look like large randomly dispersed dots and white specks on the mammogram (breast X ray), respectively. Breast calcification tissue may be removed and biopsied in order to rule out more serious pathologies such as cancer. Arterial calcifications, for example in the coronary arteries, may be detected in vivo (in a living person) by methods such as electron beam computed tomography (EBCT) coronary arteriography, plain film X rays, fluoroscopy, intravascular ultrasound, MRI and CT scan. EBCT and fluoroscopy are the most commonly used techniques in the blood vessel investigations, while CT scans are very sensitive for the detection as well as the localization of intracranial calcifications. Arielle Piper Bio320L 02 6 November 2014 Positive regression in relationship between wing loading and rate of Silver maple samaras INTRODUCTION Ecological tradeoffs occur throughout a species lifespan, giving little energy to one or more characteristics in order to focus energy and attention on a separate characteristic. Three common characteristics found in an ecological tradeoff include fecundity, age of reproductive maturity, and juvenile survivorship. Juvenile survivorship is important, especially to Silver maple (Acer saccharinum) because a species must have an adequate survival level to not become extinct (Molles 2010). One way tree fruits have a juvenile survivorship is because of the varying seed dispersal methods with which they find new ground to germinate. Secondary seed dispersal describes the process when other organisms pick up, intentionally or not, the seeds and carry them off to a new location to begin growing. Wind dispersion the most common dispersal method among silver maple samaras, incorporating the specialized design of the samara s seed coat (CITE). Förster was a German national who moved to the Netherlands for her studies. The IB Groep annulled the maintenance grant with respect to the period from July to December 2003 and requested that Förster repay the excess sums. Ms. Förster brought an action before Alkmaar District Court. That action was held to be unfounded on two grounds. Second, Ms. Förster could not claim entitlement to a maintenance grant because she had not been integrated into Dutch society. My perceived stereotypes before seeing the play were based on ones that I had from reading the novel Frankenstein last year. I was stereotyping the setting of Transylvania, the townspeople, and that Doctor Frankenstein would be a little psychotic. My expectations to see the traditional story was far from accurate, infact I was almost completely wrong. This play did not follow the life of Victor Frankenstein, rather it was the story of his grandson hence the title Young Frankenstein. Also, I learned about the young doctor from a big city who did not want to be affiliated with his families name; however, after visiting his grandfather s estate in Transylvania and seeing how truly genius he was, things changed. The musical depicts cultures of a big city (New York) and a small town (Transylvania). The audience can see clearly how different these two cities are just by the surrounding characters in these scenes. Many of my views were changed throughout this play. The comedy through the actors influenced my attitude towards the townspeople of Transylvania. It also made me see how in different places people do things in various ways and can be at different education

The Controversy Of Kurt Cobain s Death For over 20 years we have been told by media, investigators, and even those closest to Kurt Cobain himself that his death was a suicide, but as more details are revealed and more people come forward, there is one question that hangs in the air: Was Kurt Cobain murdered? On April 8, 1994, Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain was found dead in the greenhouse of his home in Seattle, Washington. Chomsky suggests the real domino theory refers not to the threat of communism spreading, but the idea that a country may develop a successful socialist state and economy independent from the US, thus setting an example for other countries where the US has economic interests. This may result in a domino effect where these other countries are influenced to do the same and develop independence from the US, thus threatening US hegemony. There are two types of domino effects: the threat of communismwhich is used to justify US intervention to the public, and the actual threat of good example which motivates US to suppress socialist movements in countries like Guatemala, East Timor, Laos, Grenada, and Nicaragua. The real motives for US intervention are therefore for its own material and strategic gains, under the pretense of propagating the ideas of freedom and democracy. The book Touching Spirit Bear and its sequel The Ghost of Spirit Bear are both books written by novelist Ben Mikaelsen about two boys and their intertwined life. The first book takes place when teen delinquent Cole Matthews beats up a boy at school named Peter for telling on him. Peter s injury leads to a permanent speech impediment and because of this Cole goes to jail. When Cole s probation officer, Garvey, tells about a tribal version of punishment called Circle Justice, which is where the two people involved in the crime must heal together, and move forward from their quarrel, Cole jumps at the idea to get out of jail. When this doesn t work they decide to send Cole to an Alaskan island, which Peter is eventually sent to. Eventually they become friends and they get past their problems. It is the next book where they face challenges of going back to school and fitting in. There are several parallels between the two books. One such parallel is that in both books Peter and Cole experience some form of hardship. On example is that in Touching Spirit Bear on pages 246 and 247, it says, When Cole refused to fight back, Peter grew bolder. Again and again he struck Cole with his bare fists.
