Rainforests.
What is it and where
would you find it.
 You would find a tropical rainforest near the
equator. This picture below shows you where they
are found. The climate ranges from 27 degrees and
the amount of rainfall 2000mm a year.
Importance
 Rainforests are a major part of our eco system but
are rapidly being destroyed.
 Rainforests can affect make changes around the
world such as Global Warming.
 Global warming has arrived because of
deforestation as many humans are cutting trees.
 This is a problem because the trees contain carbon
dioxide that destroys the environment and prevents
them from releasing what keeps us alive…oxygen.
Reasons for destruction
 The rainforests have been vanishing rapidly due to;
slash and burn, ranching, tree cutting and flooding.
TheDestruction
Definitions.
Decomposers- this is when dead leaves and possibly
animal droppings fall down and then are broken down
by insects and bacteria and in doing so carry out the
natural process of decomposition.
Lianas- they are vines that hang from trees, rooted in the
soil at ground level, looping around branches reaching
for sunlight located especially in tropical rainforests.
Nutrients- a substance that provides nourishment
essential for the maintenance for life and for growth,
such as fish as it contains protein, vitamins and minerals.
Continuation
 Epiphytes-it is a plant that grows on another plant that
gets its moisture and nutrients from the air and rain
and feeds on rotting leaves.
 Buttress roots- Large roots found on all sides of
shallow rooted trees. They are found in nutrient-poor
rainforest soils and does not sink into deeper layers.
Mangroves have these type of roots. They are support
for the tree and they have a wider surface area to
absorb nutrients from the soil.
 Habitat- the natural home or environment of an animal
plant or other organisms. It is made up of physical
factors such as soil, moisture, range of temp and
availability of food and light.
Continuation
 Adapt- Fit, change or adjust to suite a new or different
purpose. For example camels changing to live in the
desert
 Climate- the weather conditions, such as temperature,
air pressure and humidity, prevailing in an area in
general or over a long period of time.
 Indigenous- originating and living or occurring
naturally in an area or environment.
 Superstitious- having or showing belief in supernatural
behavior and beings.
