Is Cctv Surveillance Helping to Reduce Crime or Is It...
Topic: Is CCTV surveillance helping to reduce crime or is it affecting the people s privacy in public
spaces?
SURVEILLANCE: A CURSE TO PRIVACY
What does privacy means? Privacy can be defined as that area of a man s life which, in any given
circumstances, a reasonable man with an understanding of the legitimate needs of the community
would think it wrong to invade (Aquilina, 2010). For example, when people walk on street or play in
parks, shop in a public market place, study or talk on phone in public library, they want it to be free in
doing all this. However, if the people find them being monitored on CCTV cameras, they feel it
uncomfortable to stay in that environment anymore. On one hand, the government is taking advantage

Secondly, in Birmingham robbery decreased before installation and then increased to even higher
levels afterward. Wounding and assault rates remained consistent although vehicle thefts declined.
Those who used the city centre at night were less fearful. But same as the case in New Castle Upon
Tyne due some undisciplined people burglaries rose after few months. It was seen like people of
Birmingham were losing faith in the effects of CCTVs. Lastly, In King s Lynn vehicle crime and
burglary were significantly reduced. Wounding and assault began to decrease prior to installation and
then began to rise again afterward. Massive investment in CCTV cameras to prevent crime in the UK
has failed to have a significant impact, despite billions of pounds spent on the new technology. Only
3% of street robberies in London were solved using CCTV images, despite the fact that Britain has
more security cameras than any other country in Europe (Bowcott, 2008) . It was clearly seen that in
these three towns advantages of CCTV surveillance outweigh their negative impact. Lastly, if we go
on counting, there can be many misuses done using CCTV surveillance. For example, it is not safe for
women to use changing room in the store or in the mall since there is a threat of been visualized or
been video recorded through the hidden CCTV cameras fitted illegally by the store owners to make
Changing Room Scandals on women. Another misuse of CCTV surveillance in office is

Effects Of Exercise Versus Sedentary Lifestyle On Lung...
Effects of exercise versus a sedentary lifestyle on lung function for those who are asymptomatic
smokers
Since discovering the harmful effects of cigarette smoking to ones health, the United States has
worked hard to reduce the prevalence of illness and death attributable to this behavior. Based on recent
Gallup polls, the percent of people claiming to have smoked a cigarette within the past week has been
steadily declining since 1945 and the number of pack a day smokers is at the lowest point its ever been
(http://www.gallup.com/poll/1717/tobacco smoking.aspx).
According to the Center for Disease Control
(http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/campaign/tips/diseases/copd.html), cigarette smoking is responsible for
80% of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cases. Smoking can be attributed to this class
of diseases because it causes lung damage and inflammation that can lead to COPD. Airways become
clogged as excess mucus accumulates to move tar out of the body, they become thick and enflamed,
and air sacs may lose their elasticity and become destroyed, all affecting gas diffusion capacity. A
nagging cough, shortness of breath, and due to the reduced oxygen levels in the blood, discoloration of
lips and fingernails are a few of the potential symptoms of this class of diseases.
The severity of one s reduced pulmonary function, as measured by forced expiratory volume in one
second (FEV1.0), is a marked mortality risk factor (Baughman, Marott, Lange, Andrew, Hnizdo,

Bisphenol-A
Bisphenol A (or BPA) is an organic compound used in the industrial production of plastics. It was first
synthesised around 100 years ago, and has been used to produce polycarbonate plastics and epoxy
resins since the 1960s (US FDA, 2012). Polycarbonate plastics are lightweight and rigid, therefore
used in products such as CDs, DVDs, sports and medical equipment, food and drink containers and
some water supply pipes. Epoxy resins are used as protective coatings in food cans, paints and
adhesives (Aschberger, 2010). According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, there are over
three million tonnes of BPA produced worldwide each year. Humans are exposed to BPA as it has the
ability to hydrolyse (react with water) when catalysed by hydroxide, ... Show more content on

For example, Lang et al (2008) claims that higher levels of BPA in the urine were associated with
cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. However, higher levels of BPA in the urine could also
suggest a high consumption of packaged food. The packaged food is higher in sugar, salt and fat
content, therefore would lead to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. The US Environmental Protection
Agency concludes that these studies are insufficient for use in risk assessment because of a variety of
flaws in some of the study designs . They further question the findings stating that there is an inability
of other researchers to reproduce the effects in standardised

Edward Bellamy Challenges The Nineteenth-Century Private...
HIST202 D2 Dr. Richard Hourigan October 19, 2016 Book Review on Looking Backward Edward
Bellamy challenges the nineteenth century private capital system through his novel Looking
Backward. He presents his ideas of an ideal society through a character born in the nineteenth century
who wakes up in the twentieth century. Within this book the 1870s is seen to be a time where only a
privileged few were benefited under the system of private capitals. This book became very popular
during the time period because of its challenges to the normal economy systems. Looking Backward
creates a new idea of social reform and how a system of public capital could benefit the American
society. Julian West, was born in the late nineteenth century to an aristocrat

Pros And Cons Of The Electronics Communications Privacy Act
The electronics communications privacy act is something I find very disturbing and it has affected me
personally in a work situation. At the time the man I was working for was a licensee for a larger
franchise and was going through a legal dispute at the corporate office. I emailed the owner from my
work email when the evidence of my boss s demise was clear in hopes to ensure my future with the
company was in place. When I arrived at work the next morning the licensee holder and my boss had
already read my cry for help and fired me on the spot. It was the first time I was even aware
something like this was possible. I think the situation I ve described is just one of many possible
examples of the disadvantages something like this has. Advantages

Thor And Loki In The Giant s City
Kenny McCormick is the face behind the mask of the vigilante, Mysterion. He is one of the four main
characters on the television show, South Park, and is distinguished by his bright orange parka that
covers most of his face. As a result his voice is muffled, making it difficult to understand his dialogue,
which is rare enough as is. Living in South Park, Colorado has subjected him to the common
extraordinary happenings that give the program it s edge. He lives with his impoverished family and
attends South Park Elementary School as a fourth grade student. The costume associated with
Mysterion consists of a dark blue hooded cape, adorned with the signature green question mark

Loki, the God of chaos, is known as the doer of good and the doer of evil. He, like Cartman, is always
looking for a way to cause havoc. Whether they intended to or not, they never pass up the opportunity.
In the chapter Thor and Loki in the Giant s City, Loki is seen telling multiple tales about his
adventures with Thor at the feast, and is sure to highlight the things that make Thor look bad. For
instance, his strength was no match to the dwellers if Jötunheim, and when he had to dress as a bride
to retrieve his hammer, Mjölnir. Later on in the book it is revealed that all of the mockery against Thor
was due to magic, and that he truly was the most powerful being. This was not a direct cause, but it
ultimately led up to Loki being banished from Asgard. In Mysterion s case, after he kicked The Coon
out of Coon and Friends for his foolery, he set out on a mission to team up with Cthulhu. This enabled
him to control one of the darkest sources of evil, similar to when Loki ate the witch s heart. Cassandra,
the daughter of King Priam, faced a struggle all too similar to the one Kenny faces everyday. She
refused to seal the deal with the God, Apollo, so he punished her with the curse of never being
believed. The only disparity between the two, is that Kenny was not given the opportunity to hex

Myotonic Dystrophy Research Paper
Myotonic Dystrophy is the most common form of muscular dystrophy. It is a chronic, multi system
disorder that is characterized by progressive muscle wasting and weakness. Symptoms include;
myotonia (prolonged muscle contractions), the inability to relax certain muscles after use, slurred
speech, temporary locking of jaw, cataracts, abnormalities of the electrical signals that control the
heartbeat, and early balding and infertility in men. There are two major types of myotonic dystrophy,
type 1 and type 2. Many of the symptoms are overlapping, the only differences are type 1 is generally
more severe than type 2 and type 1 affects the lower legs, hands, neck and face. Whereas, type 2
affects the neck, shoulders, elbows, and hips. Myotonic dystrophy ... Show more content on

This protein may play a role in the communication within cells, especially those of the heart, brain and
skeletal muscles. It is believed that the protein is involved in the communication between cells and
regulates the production and function of important structures inside muscles cells by interacting with
other proteins. The DMPK gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 19 at position 13.3. It is
between base pairs 45,769,708 and 45,782,556 making it 12848 base pairs long. It consists of a
trinucleotide repeat of the nucleotide sequence CTG. Meaning that the nucleotides CTG are repeated
multiple times. In a normal DMPK protein the number of CTG repeats ranges from 5 34. The
mutation that causes myotonic dystrophy is known as trinucleotide repeat expansion, meaning it
increases the number of times CTG is repeated in the gene. People with myotonic dystrophy can have
50 to 50,000 repeats, the more repeats an individual has the worse their symptoms are. The increased
number of repeats produces an expanded version of mRNA, which then forms clumps inside the cell
that interfere with the production of many other proteins. These clumps prevent muscle cells and cells
in other tissues from functioning

Persuasive Essay On The 26th Amendment
Suffrage in america is not a privilege, but a right that all Americans are granted when they are old
enough to maturely handle this important action. However just as the right to bear arms, children
including teens should not be allowed to take on such power due to the fact that it can not only impact
the outcome of their own lives futures, but those of others in this country. I myself am a teenager in
America who is moderately versed in politics, civil liberties, economics, and the government, just as a
fraction of others my age, but I still believe that with this knowledge I can not truly vote on matters
simply because I have not experienced theses topics of concern I would be voting so there is no logic
in having a say in these matters that impact the lives of my fellow Americans. This issue is two sided
one for 16 year olds to vote, and one in the opposition, yet to give children the power to affect the
state of their neighborhoods/towns let alone the nation is simply moronic, but can have a few benefits
in the future only that of voter turnout.
Although getting younger people is a good thing this age is far too young, some may even believe that
the age of 18 is too young, and not even worth it. Annys Shin the author of this article claims that
younger voters have been something of a bust, and this idea can be supported from the simple fact the
26th amendment, granting suffrage to 18 year olds, was only passed by congress because they
believed that it was wrong that

Tsar Nicholas II’s Abdication was Preventable
Tsar Nicholas II s abdication in February 1917 was an event that both he could have prevented,
however a number of factors meant it was out of his control. A revolution in Russia was inevitable and
Nicolas was hapless to have been crowed a time of liberation; however his personality traits and
actions lead to abdication in February 1917. Nicholas lack of political understanding was a constant
delimitative factor throughout his rule, especially regarding Russia revolutionary stance, the Russo
Japanese War, the 1905 revolution, The October Manifesto, Russia s participation in World War and
the influencing factors of his wife and Gerogery Rasputin. Which lead to the question, was it Nicholas
alone that led to his abdication in February 1917 or was it is combination of influencing factors?
By 1894, Russia was economically and socially backwards, needing a ruler who could guide them to
modernisation and reform, without this a revolution is inevitable. Due to its proximity, Westernisers
were contrasting their lifestyle to that of the Europeans post industrialisation, identifying clear
injustices in their society. Literary critic Belinsky explains Everything great, noble , human and
spiritual came up, grew, burst into splendid bloom and brought fourth sumptuous fruit on European
soil (after the industrial revolution) Russians never had much to contrast their lifestyle to, however the
boom of Europe proposed an idea of an alternation which could be achieved in Russia. This

Garrett Hardin Lifeboat Ethics Analysis
In Lifeboat Ethics: The case against helping the poor , Garrett Hardin (2012) discusses the
controversial case of helping the poor. The author analyzes this case with the use of a lifeboat
metaphor and presents his opposition to the establishment of a World Food Bank . This article was
first published in Psychology Today magazine in 1974. Hardin has written many works in his time
dealing with similar topics, such as his articles Tragedy of the commons (Hardin,1968). His writings
mainly focus on social dilemmas showing interest in economics and ecology, one example is his book

He provides many logical analysis of the given cases to establish his credibility. Pathos is not as
evident in his article; he refrains from it to build a sound argument. The author uses many numerical
statistics to back up his claims. However, these certain evidences have not been cited by an authority
which lead us to question his validity. He manages to provide several examples to support an idea he
is developing. Hardin refers to the Food for peace program as an example to appeal to the case of the
World Food Bank . The discussion of both the potential negative and positive sides of the Food for
peace program is what build the author s credibility. His opinions do not seem to be biased as he
merely analyzes the situation off of statistical numbers and past experiences. Hardin includes certain
terms that may be unheard of by certain readers, such as tragedy of the commons and the green
revolution , but he does provide a clear definition for these terms in his article. The author uses a
heavy choice of words and has a serious tone, which is mainly to highlight the importance of the

Similar Ideas of Fate in Oedipus the King, by Sophocles...
The play, Oedipus the King, by Sophocles, shares very similar ideas of fate as the movie Crash. Fate is
the idea that the outcome of events are out of our control, that your life is predetermined. Both of these
works use the idea that one cannot escape their fate, that it is set and nothing can change it. However,
in Oedipus the King, Oedipus believes that he can escape or change his fate while the characters in
Crash do not even try to. In the play, Oedipus the King, Oedipus believes that he can control his fate,
however, he realizes that he cannot so tries to escape it. Oedipus has a tragic flaw, he does not see the
truth and only believes what he wants to. When the blind prophet Tiresias tells Oedipus that he is the

This puts Daniel in a potentially dangerous situation that is out of his control. After finding his shop in
shambles, Farhad goes to Daniel s house to confront him and demands his money back. While they are
disputing, Daniel s young daughter runs out and jumps on him, shocking Farhad and causing him to
shoot. Luckily, the bullets are blanks and Daniel s daughter is completely unharmed. This situation
was out of Daniel s control, it was not his fault and he could do nothing about Farhad, who had acted
on his emotions and assumptions. This film tries to show that no matter how hard people try to break
their stereotypes, others will still judge them. Crash exposes that racial stereotypes are still a big issue
in the 21st century, which I agree with. People often do follow stereotypes, even though they try not
to. Also, people do not want to be judged according to stereotypes but, they still participate in acts that
feed them. An example of this from Crash is Anthony s character. He complains about being
stereotyped but then steals Jean s car, feeding a typical African American stereotype. In the movie,
Anthony encounters Cameron when attempting to steal his car and fails because Cameron is not
scared of him, just ashamed. Cameron says to Anthony, Look at me. You embarrass me. You
embarrass yourself. , which I can relate to my own personal experiences. There are times when people
represent my races poorly and embarrass many others, including me. I

Papers On The Piano Lesson
The Piano Lesson takes place in the year 1936 where Berniece and Boy Willie have a small altercation
about the piano that was left to them by their ancestors. Throughout the play, there are many historical
references; African American music and ghosts that blend Christian, folk fare, and African American
themes together. In this research paper, the primary goal is to be the designer of the play while
focusing on creating the set. My approach to creating the set of the play is to use the play introduction

Since this is all happening at Doakers house, then only one set needs to be designed. The shape is
going to be 2x3 and about the medium size that way everyone can properly see what is going on
without having to move about in his or her seats. There is no need to shift the scenery in and out of
sight because Scene II would happen in the dining room, the box and stairs both will be made out of
wood, and since this is happening in the 1930 s; there will be huge historical changes that will
defiantly change the scenery. Some example of historical differences could include color, furniture,
wallpaper, and technology. Some properties that would be included in the play would be some rope, a
gold cross, a bible, a dollar bill, some cups, rags, and an envelope. The reason I would want Scene II
to happen in the dining room is because I could create one big box that would have the living room
and dining room already built, thus there would be no need to create the kitchen. As you can see,
designing a play is a lot of hard with tons of little details that go into it. Since this play set in the 30 s,
there was a vast scenery change between modern today and before. I hope you have learned something
new by reading this short research

Queen Elizabeth The Best Queen In European History
On September 7th, at Greenwich Palace in England, a young girl called, the illegitimate daughter of
King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn was born. Her name was Elizabeth and she would become one of
the most significant English monarchs of all time. She lost her mother when she was 2 and her father
passed away when she was 13. She was persecuted for heresy by her own sister and locked in the
Tower. Her legacy lives on to this day and her bravery still strikes the hearts and minds of
Englishmen. Though her refusal to marry left her throne empty, Elizabeth I was the best queen in
European history because of her pragmatic nature, devotion to her people, and her confidence in her
beliefs.
Her pragmatic nature is one of the many reasons that Elizabeth is renowned all over the world. When
Elizabeth chose her council she chose a modern and balanced group of individuals, as she did not

William Cecil was equally pragmatic and together they created many clever policies, including ...

By doing this she also ended the Tudor era and spent quite a bit of her valuable time turning down
suitors. Her rightful successor was James VI, the son of Mary Queen of Scots, who eventually became

was at risk and she wasted her time with suitors Elizabeth used her promise of marriage as a powerful
diplomatic tool and a bargaining piece whenever she needed the favor of another country (Huso).
Along with that Elizabeth had absolutely no interest in compromising her power by adding a king to

Adolf Hitler Diary
Adolf Hitler, a man who was once a hero to Germany is now it s greatest enemy. He had tore apart the
country piece by piece ever since he came into power. Hatred was the only thing that had kept him
alive. At this point, he was a walking carcass. His bunker was like his coffin. The Fuhrer had gone to
the Bunker for peace from war, yet he was getting the exact opposite of what he dreamed of. The
Allied forces had continued to bomb Berlin wiping out all of his troops in groups at a time. Due to
these constant mass killings of soldiers, Hitler had ordered to send out the Hitler Youth. They were
young boys who still had a whole life ahead of them, but instead their futures were ruined by war. A
war that seemed, at this point, useless to continue on. At least for the Germans it seemed dumb to keep
fighting. The Fuhrer had rejected the idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Eva.. His voice cracked. You don t understand, do you? Adolf looked up at her, teary eyed. The old

Pesticides In The United States
The use of pesticides in the United States began after WWII. During this time there was no regulation
on the use of pesticides such as DDT and other chemical compounds known as chlorinated
hydrocarbons crystallized in 1962. Pesticides usage is at an astronomical 850 million pounds a year.
Pesticides are also sold for home use as well, this poses a main health concern to the general public
who are unaware of the potential hazards of selling pesticides.
Farmers dust or spray 850 million pounds of pesticides a year on food products that are available to
american consumers. Some of the similar pesticides are sold in areas of stores that are near garden
produce. These pesticides include fungicides, miticides, insecticides, rodenticides, and herbicides. In a
survey done about pesticides in grocery stores, it was to see how close the pesticides were to fresh
produce . In approximately half the stores, pesticides were located 50 feet from the fruit and vegetable
displays, and in 24 percent of the stores, pesticide displays were within 10 feet of the fruit displays. In

that the pesticides have serious effects on smaller animals. Judging by the exposure of the birds in

Essay On Australian Migration Act 1958
Legal relevant laws:
Australian Migration Act 1958:
Australian Federal law states that any non Australian citizens who do not have a valid visa is to be
detained, regardless of circumstances for a strictly limited period designed to obtain basic information
about health, identity, security and basic information that supports a visa claim, may form a legitimate
part of a system of immigration controls, as long as the detention is subject to effective review by a
court.
The people who do not have these valid documents are generally refugees and asylum seekers who
have fled their country for their safety. They are denied the right for entrance into Australia due to the
Australian Migration Act 1958 and are put in detention centres indefinitely.
The Issue with Australian Law
Those detained may only be released if granted a visa or removed from Australia, children are no
exception to this. Detainment facilities are usually detention centres that are either in remote ... Show

The housing project has a calmer, quieter atmosphere and allowed detainees to exercise more freedom
than detention centres. What should be changed is that there should be more housing projects around
Australia to accommodate more immigrants as a much better alternative than detention centres. They
should also be more inclusive of the qualifications required to be eligible to be in the residential
housing project.
Children and their families should not be split up
In residential housing projects the children were only allowed to stay with the mother but the father
was to stay in the detention centres. This separation of family exacerbates the already fragile mental
state of families. Instead the father should be allowed to stay with their families in the housing
projects, which would be more beneficial to not only the families but the Government as it would
require less resources when they try to unite the families again.

Theme Of The Poem Piano And Drums
Cultural dichotomy in Okara s Piano and Drums
Gabriel Okara is the first renowned English language black African poet and the first African
modernist writer. He was born on 1921 in Nigeria, and studied at Government College Umuahia,
where he was exposed to European writers and were deeply inspired by them. His most famous poem
Piano and Drums deals with the cultural dichotomy of traditional and Western cultures in post colonial
Africa, but the raw emotion of the poem makes it an expression of confusion that anyone tied to more
than one culture can relate to. The European civilization was introduced in Africa after the arrival of
the former in the 16th century. Most of the native Africans stuck to their traditions, while some of

Here, he speaks of faraway lands and new horizons, which undoubtedly refers to the mingling of the
European cultures after they were colonized by the latter. It introduced in them some new ways of
living and so the native people were perplexed whether to adopt the newly introduced culture or to
follow the traditional life style. The use of the technical terms coaxing diminuendo, counterpoint,
crescendo, definitely adds more confusion in the present state.
But lost in the Labyrinth Of its complexities, it ends in the middle of a phrase at a dagger point.
Although the newly introduced culture represented by piano may be refined and seductive but the real,
connection is found only in the old culture and the beating of the drums. Therefore, this state of
perplexities creates a labyrinth and its complexities reach a point where it stops abruptly, lost in itself.
The state of disorder ends in a phrase (state of mind which makes sense but not complete sense),
cultures are many their own culture, cultures introduced by foreign but the real connection is lost. The
word dagger point further intensifies the fear and the undercurrent of the gradual lost of the native
culture after the mingling of the foreign one.
And I lost in the morning mist Of an age at a riverside keep Wandering at the mystic

foolishness, corruption and hypocrisy in politics. Political satire, unlike protests, only wants to make a
mockery of politics. Political satire has been around for ages, in the United States it has been around
since the colonial days where the founding fathers used it to spread propaganda against the British. It
is still very prominent in today s society, especially with the inclusion of social media to the platforms
of entertainment and information. Political satire outlets have risen in popularity considerably in

Now, all that sets a text in relationship, whether obvious or concealed, with other texts is denoted by
Genette as transtextuality (1). As a study of relationships, which link a text with the transtextual
network out of which it produces its meaning, it can be further divided into five more specific
subcategories: 1. intertextuality  a relationship of copresence between two texts or among several
texts , that is, the actual presence of one text within the other (Genette 1,2), as we see in the case of
quotations, allusions and plagiarism. 2. paratextuality  a relationship between the text and all the
extra textual writings and materials (peritexts and epitexts), which surround the text and help to direct
and control the reader s reception of it, but themselves remain outside. 3. metatextuality  a
relationship between the text and other texts, upon which it serves as an explicit or implicit
commentary. 4. hypertextuality  a relationship uniting a text (Text B) and another text(Text A), upon
which the previous one is grafted in a way that is not that of a commentary (Genette 5) (here the Text
A is called the hypotext and the Text B the hypertext). 5. archytextuality  a relationship between the
text and the different modes, genres and theme that it refers or belongs to. Now we shall turn our
attention to the fourth one of the above mentioned subcategories, namely to hypertextuality, which

Preventing Surgical Site Infection ( Ssi ) Is Paramount...
Introduction
Preventing surgical site infection (SSI) is paramount for healthcare professionals. If there is an
increasing rate of surgical infections in hospitals, the medical cost to take care of the patient would
increase beyond the average rate of care for that patient. Patients who have clean or contaminated
surgery are susceptible of contracting infection if the wound is not protected from harmful organisms
that may be present on the skin during or after the surgical procedure. As such, the quality of patient
care for controlling after surgery infection is the concern of surgeons, practitioners, healthcare
planners, and the public. Preoperative and postoperative interventions are important considerations for

The Relevance of the Nursing Research Problem
Webster and Osborne (2015) conducted a research Preoperative Bathing or Showering with Skin
Antiseptics to Prevent Surgical Site Infection, in 2015 was to determine if patients bath or showered
prior to surgery with an antiseptic the risk of postsurgical site infection would reduce. The nursing
problems are; the various researches supporting the use of antiseptic prior to surgery is still
inconclusive in relation to the best antiseptic that will reduce infection and; there is need for clarity if
reducing skin microflora with the use of antiseptic will result in lower incidence of SSI.
The authors commented that complications after surgery increases hospitals cost and lengthens the
patient s stay in the institution. Spiraling cost for healthcare is not advantageous for the hospitals or
the patients. Patients who stay in hospitals longer than expected because of infections are likely to
prefer law suits against the institution. Compounding the problem are cases that results in serious
morbidity or mortality resulting from infected surgical sites. In addition, the rate of readmission into
hospitals and further surgery contributes to the concerns for reducing postoperative infections
(Webster Osborne). The research is relevant and poses a nursing challenge that includes other
healthcare professionals such as administrators, surgeons, practitioners, patients, and the public.

curves and location economies and by expanding its market share outside of its home country. This
business savvy type of management approach seeks to penetrate a huge market availability, which as
global markets develop will gradually combine into just one market. In developing their mission goals
and corporate strategy, Dow Chemical has obviously considered both External and Internal
stakeholders and how strategic maneuvers would impact their ultimate goals. Examples of stakeholder
impacts are: External Stakeholders: Customers: Provide the core of revenue, especially in untapped
markets overseas. Suppliers: Provide input w/significant savings through combined purchasing with
Union Carbide Company and 13 other large companies. Governments: Significant reduced
manufacturing restrictions and potential incentives to conduct business in foreign countries. Unions:
Many foreign countries are not unionized, which could be a production cost incentive. Internal
Stakeholders: Stockholders: Maximizing their Return On Investment by expanding operations and
gaining access to difficult markets.

International Enrollment At A Small Liberal Arts College
Introduction Northland College, a small liberal arts college located in Ashland, WI, has made the
decision to increase international enrollment at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The
decision was created to increase financial stability and international enrollment. The increase in
enrollment is meant to increase diversity and to improve global awareness on campus for all students.
The VP for Student Affairs is concerned about creating a campus environment that will enable
international students to be academically and socially successful and she wants the larger campus
environment to be enriched by the entry of this increasing population of international students.
Essentially, she wants the university to be prepared and proactive in serving these students and their
classmates. Creating a more global and internationally diverse population has become a trend and
many other universities are moving in this direction. The purpose of this shift to a more global
population provides many benefits to the campus community. However, there are also some
challenges that must be addressed in this shift in order to have the best chances of success with the
implementation of this trend. In this paper, issues such as college environment, involvement,
engagement, and integration of students, both domestic and international, will be reviewed. This will
include looking at current research and theories of college students. That information will be then used
to offer solutions

Description Of The Barn Cats Essay
Scenario:
It s autumn and, just like any other season, you re hard at work at your barn. Your barn cats are hard at
work, as well, hunting and munching on the overabundant rodent population nesting in your hay. In a
brief moment of rest, you remove your gloves, wincing as the cold air hits your dry, cracked skin. One
of the barn cats also joins you in your reprieve and you reach down to run your hands through her fur.
Briefly, you notice a bit of nasal discharge and some scabs on her paws and face, but you chalk it up to
the weather and get back to work.
A couple of days go by and you begin to notice pus like sores on your hands. They re inflamed and red
and suddenly you re reminded of the barn cat you pet a while back. Deciding to give her a more
thorough once over, you return to the barn on your precious day off to hunt her down. It s easy enough
to find her; she s resting atop a pile of blankets while the other cats are out and about hunting. She
appears thinner than you remember her being and she barely even registers your approach, but you
immediately notice rodent bites on her face and paws that appear infected.
Upon closer inspection, beneath her fur there are multiple crusted wounds, some circular bumps while
others appear to be swollen and flat. The skin is also broken in some places, equally as crusty and
flaking off in places. You know that these are ulcerated nodules and, regardless of an underlying
infection, they need to be treated before they get worse

How Did Pennsylvania Coal Burn

Rhetorical Analysis Of Robert Bellahs Civil Religion Essay...
Rhetorical Analysis of
Civil Religion In America by Robert H. Bellah
Robert N. Bellah Civil Religion In America was written in the winter of 1967 and is
copyrighted by the Journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences from the issue
entitled religion in America . In his writings Bellah Explains the idea and workings of Civil
Religion in the United States; this chapter was written for a Dædalus conference on American
Religion in May 1966. It was reprinted with comments and a rejoined in The Religious Situation.
Civil Religion is the idea that our own government has its own Devine right of worship and is
parallel to the writings of the Bible. It s the concept that the United States is its own religion as ...

And of corse like any new emerging idea it s main antagonists are Christian
followers who that see no connection the bible and the US at all. The idea of Civil religion is
enforced by the fact that throughout the history of the US every president has made some
reference to God is speeches, in writings, even in their dedication to their own religion. Also the
hundreds upon thousands of writers and speakers that have written or spoken on the tragic and
monumental evens in the life of the US are pulled in to help amplify the importance and
existence of pivotal events in the Civil Religion s time line.
Robert Bellah s intentions for writing this are simple, he has found a faith that he
believes in and is defending it against those who wish to discredit it. As he states in the end of
his writing, Civil Religion has often been used, and is being used today as a cloak for petty
interests and ugly passions. It is in need as is every living faith of continual reformation of
being measured by universal standards. But it is not evident that it is incapable of growth and
new insight . Bellah s motive is to inform about what civil religion is and what it means to
follow it s faith hoping to bring others into the fold and even bring in insight and new ideals that
can help to adapt it to the modern world. Robert Bellah doesn t belittle other religions and say
that following the divine government is

Employee Turnover And The Banking Sector
Employee Turnover in the Banking Sector The current global business environment is proving to be
shaky especially due to the ripple effects of globalization. Both local and international businesses are
increasingly feeling the pressure to grow initial investments in order to fulfill the needs of
stakeholders. Even as these businesses continue to make adjustment to measure up to the international
standard thresholds, the area of human resources continues to readjust itself in accordance with current
market demands. Clarke et al (2010) documented that the field of human resource has for a long time
been considered the epicenter of any economy s development processes. The highly competitive
business environment coupled with highly deteriorating on social conditions that have weighed in on
the employees thus causing high turnover in the banking institutions. Various definitions of employee
turnover have cropped, however, according to Griffeth (2004), employee turnover is considered to be
the ratio of the total headcount of members that have left an organization within a specified period
divided by the standard number of employees during the period under consideration. It has widely
been interpreted as a measure of general effectiveness of human resources in that a high turnover
translates to low effectiveness and vice versa. Employee turnover is a big problem prevalent in many
institutions and is mostly associated with actions taken by organizations to reduce expenses and

Conflict In Elizabeth
In this passage, several conflicts are portrayed. In the beginning of the passage, Edmund and Mary
Crawford are in conflict over Edmund s future job as a clergyman. Both parties are equally stubborn
and both are determined to convince the other. This results in tension between the two and they are
unable to fully enjoy each other s company at the ball, despite wanting to. In the second half of the
passage, conflict arises between Fanny and Sir Thomas when Sir Thomas tries to prevent Fanny from
waking up too early to have breakfast with William the next day. Unlike Edmund and Mary s conflict,
this conflict between Fanny and Sir Thomas is resolved within the passage. However, fanny is not left
entirely satisfied as Sir Thomas imposes upon her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the extract, both characters argue about the clergyman profession, with Edmund trying to defend his
choice of profession and Mary expressing her disdain for it. The passage writes he had reasoned, she
had ridiculed , showing that Edmund had been trying to persuade and make peace with Mary while
Mary had been the more aggressive one in the argument, refusing to back down. The use of the word
ridiculed also suggests that Mary was deliberately trying to hurt Edmund s feelings and was being
especially harsh and spiteful. The pair later parted at last with mutual vexation , not having been able
to win over the other or come to a compromise. This conflict shows that perhaps this courtship was
doomed from the start as neither is willing to give in to the other. Furthermore, Edmund and Mary are
continually shown to have differing and conflicting values throughout the novel, so much so that
arguing with Mary causes Edmund to be upset and worn out with civility . This is contrasted with the
much more agreeable relationship between Edmund and Fanny that is shown in earlier parts of the
novel, such as when Edmund says But with you, Fanny, there may be peace . Hence, this conflict
between Edmund and Mary hints at the impeding failure of this courtship at the end of the

Cell Phone Addiction Essay
The cell phone has become a centerpiece of everyday life as cell phones are evolving and have been
increasing their functionalities. Today, we use them today for many others reasons than what cell
phones were originally designed to do. People are using them so often that they are becoming
dependent on their phones that they have even become addicted to them. Those who are addicted to
their cell phones struggle to stay away from them for a certain period of time and become so indulged
in all of the unique things they can provide. With cell phone addiction comes many problems or issues
that can occur in an individual s life. Cell phone addiction has lead to differences in people mentally,
physically, and behaviorally.

Luigi Gallimberti, et. al discusses in their article Problematic Cell Phone Use for Text Messaging and
Substance Abuse in Early Adolescence (11 to 13 year olds), that problematic cell phone use (PCPU),
is associated with psychological distress, low self esteem, depression, drug abuse, insomnia, and
thoughts of suicide (356). The overuse of cellphones can really detriment a person mentally and could
cause them to arrive at one of these issues stated. An issue also arises when a person with a cell phone
addiction is in school. They tend to remain unfocused while on their phones and they don t participate
during class. In a sample, the students who had better test grades were less likely to have a
problematic cell phone addiction (Gallimberti, et. al 360). This finding confirms the positive
association between cell phone addiction and poor performance in school. In schools, it was
concluded that this overuse of cellphones was positively connected with deficient school performance
in teens with an average age of 15.7 years old (Gallimberti, et. al 360). Aviad Hadar studies in his
article Answering the Missed Call: Initial Exploration of Cognitive and Electrophysiological Changes
Associated With Smartphone Use and Abuse that cell phone addiction was studied to be linked with
reduced attention, changes in how someone processes, stores, and applies information about other
people and social

Use Of Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism is a theory that was founded by Jeremy Bentham and was later revised by John Stuart
Mill. This theory is based on producing the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest amount of
people and all self aware beings on Earth. Utilitarianism factors in the amount of bad and good that
will be produced by an act. It uses this whether it is during the act or after the act has been done. A
utilitarianist believes in one ultimate goal: living a life without pain and a life with many enjoyments.
Pain and enjoyments are different to everyone so they are hard to judge sometimes. Mill stated that
overall happiness is key and that we as a society should try to maximize quality and quantity of
overall happiness.

Summary Of The Hound Of The Baskervilles
Summary:
On December 26th, 2015, my mother and I went to go see the show, Baskerville, by Ken Ludwig, at
the Suzanne Roberts Theatre in Philadelphia. The play was a different and clever take on the mystery
novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The play the book tell the story
about an attempted murder of a man called Sir Henry Baskerville, who has just inherited his uncle, Sir
Charles Baskerville s estate. There is some suspicion surrounding Sir Charles death. It is said that he
died of a heart attack, but his friend who found him dead, Dr. James Mortimer, noticed an expression
of fear on his face and the prints of gigantic hound nearby. So the doctor brings the case to Mr.
Holmes and it begins.
The venue of the show was the Suzanne Roberts Theatre in Philadelphia. It was a very sleek and
modern looking place. It was smaller than I imagined outside and inside of the theatre. The stage was
a perfect square black box type stage, completely surrounded by lights. The show was done by the
Philadelphia Theatre Company, and the show was written by American playwright Ken Ludwig. The
contemporary drama show premiered at the Arena Stage in Washington, DC on January 16th, 2015.
Ludwig s interpretation of the story was very clever and funny. It was close to being farcical, but the
actual premise of the show kept it from reaching that point. There were two things that made the play
stand out. When I looked at the cast list before I went to see the show I

Theodore Freak Research Paper
For most of his life Theodore has been known as Theodore Freak. From countless years of bullying,
which was caused by a conversation between two friends, could have led to Theodore s suicidal
thoughts. Theodore kept an entry of all the attempted suicidal thoughts he had, their dates, on a scale
of one to ten of how close he was for following through, to a history of other people dying this way.
On top of the bell tower, Theodore was feeling about a five. What stopped him for leaping off? Was
not a what, but a whom. Standing a few feet over was a terrified Violet Markey. Speaking calmly, he
helped Violet get away from the edge and back to safety. When everyone in the school thought that
Violet had save Theodore Freak, he let them, because Theodore did not care what other s thought of
him. With U.S Geography being the only class Theodore had with Violet, he chooses her to be his

  • 2. Is Cctv Surveillance Helping to Reduce Crime or Is It... Topic: Is CCTV surveillance helping to reduce crime or is it affecting the people s privacy in public spaces? SURVEILLANCE: A CURSE TO PRIVACY What does privacy means? Privacy can be defined as that area of a man s life which, in any given circumstances, a reasonable man with an understanding of the legitimate needs of the community would think it wrong to invade (Aquilina, 2010). For example, when people walk on street or play in parks, shop in a public market place, study or talk on phone in public library, they want it to be free in doing all this. However, if the people find them being monitored on CCTV cameras, they feel it uncomfortable to stay in that environment anymore. On one hand, the government is taking advantage of ... Wounding and assault rates remained consistent although vehicle thefts declined. Those who used the city centre at night were less fearful. But same as the case in New Castle Upon Tyne due some undisciplined people burglaries rose after few months. It was seen like people of Birmingham were losing faith in the effects of CCTVs. Lastly, In King s Lynn vehicle crime and burglary were significantly reduced. Wounding and assault began to decrease prior to installation and then began to rise again afterward. Massive investment in CCTV cameras to prevent crime in the UK has failed to have a significant impact, despite billions of pounds spent on the new technology. Only 3% of street robberies in London were solved using CCTV images, despite the fact that Britain has more security cameras than any other country in Europe (Bowcott, 2008) . It was clearly seen that in these three towns advantages of CCTV surveillance outweigh their negative impact. Lastly, if we go on counting, there can be many misuses done using CCTV surveillance. For example, it is not safe for women to use changing room in the store or in the mall since there is a threat of been visualized or been video recorded through the hidden CCTV cameras fitted illegally by the store owners to make Changing Room Scandals on women. Effects of exercise versus a sedentary lifestyle on lung function for those who are asymptomatic smokers Since discovering the harmful effects of cigarette smoking to ones health, the United States has worked hard to reduce the prevalence of illness and death attributable to this behavior. Based on recent Gallup polls, the percent of people claiming to have smoked a cigarette within the past week has been steadily declining since 1945 and the number of pack a day smokers is at the lowest point its ever been (http://www.gallup.com/poll/1717/tobacco smoking.aspx). According to the Center for Disease Control (http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/campaign/tips/diseases/copd.html), cigarette smoking is responsible for 80% of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cases. Smoking can be attributed to this class of diseases because it causes lung damage and inflammation that can lead to COPD. Airways become clogged as excess mucus accumulates to move tar out of the body, they become thick and enflamed, and air sacs may lose their elasticity and become destroyed, all affecting gas diffusion capacity. A nagging cough, shortness of breath, and due to the reduced oxygen levels in the blood, discoloration of lips and fingernails are a few of the potential symptoms of this class of diseases. The severity of one s reduced pulmonary function, as measured by forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1.0), is a marked mortality risk factor (Baughman, Marott, Lange, Andrew, Hnizdo, ... It was first synthesised around 100 years ago, and has been used to produce polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins since the 1960s (US FDA, 2012). Polycarbonate plastics are lightweight and rigid, therefore used in products such as CDs, DVDs, sports and medical equipment, food and drink containers and some water supply pipes. Epoxy resins are used as protective coatings in food cans, paints and adhesives (Aschberger, 2010). HIST202 D2 Dr. Richard Hourigan October 19, 2016 Book Review on Looking Backward Edward Bellamy challenges the nineteenth century private capital system through his novel Looking Backward. He presents his ideas of an ideal society through a character born in the nineteenth century who wakes up in the twentieth century. Within this book the 1870s is seen to be a time where only a privileged few were benefited under the system of private capitals. This book became very popular during the time period because of its challenges to the normal economy systems. Looking Backward creates a new idea of social reform and how a system of public capital could benefit the American society. Julian West, was born in the late nineteenth century to an aristocrat ... In the chapter Thor and Loki in the Giant s City, Loki is seen telling multiple tales about his adventures with Thor at the feast, and is sure to highlight the things that make Thor look bad. For instance, his strength was no match to the dwellers if Jötunheim, and when he had to dress as a bride to retrieve his hammer, Mjölnir. Later on in the book it is revealed that all of the mockery against Thor was due to magic, and that he truly was the most powerful being. This was not a direct cause, but it ultimately led up to Loki being banished from Asgard. In Mysterion s case, after he kicked The Coon out of Coon and Friends for his foolery, he set out on a mission to team up with Cthulhu. This enabled him to control one of the darkest sources of evil, similar to when Loki ate the witch s heart. Cassandra, the daughter of King Priam, faced a struggle all too similar to the one Kenny faces everyday. This protein may play a role in the communication within cells, especially those of the heart, brain and skeletal muscles. It is believed that the protein is involved in the communication between cells and regulates the production and function of important structures inside muscles cells by interacting with other proteins. The DMPK gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 19 at position 13.3. It is between base pairs 45,769,708 and 45,782,556 making it 12848 base pairs long. It consists of a trinucleotide repeat of the nucleotide sequence CTG. Meaning that the nucleotides CTG are repeated multiple times. In a normal DMPK protein the number of CTG repeats ranges from 5 34. The mutation that causes myotonic dystrophy is known as trinucleotide repeat expansion, meaning it increases the number of times CTG is repeated in the gene. People with myotonic dystrophy can have 50 to 50,000 repeats, the more repeats an individual has the worse their symptoms are. The increased number of repeats produces an expanded version of mRNA, which then forms clumps inside the cell that interfere with the production of many other proteins. • 10. Persuasive Essay On The 26th Amendment Suffrage in america is not a privilege, but a right that all Americans are granted when they are old enough to maturely handle this important action. However just as the right to bear arms, children including teens should not be allowed to take on such power due to the fact that it can not only impact the outcome of their own lives futures, but those of others in this country. I myself am a teenager in America who is moderately versed in politics, civil liberties, economics, and the government, just as a fraction of others my age, but I still believe that with this knowledge I can not truly vote on matters simply because I have not experienced theses topics of concern I would be voting so there is no logic in having a say in these matters that impact the lives of my fellow Americans. This issue is two sided one for 16 year olds to vote, and one in the opposition, yet to give children the power to affect the state of their neighborhoods/towns let alone the nation is simply moronic, but can have a few benefits in the future only that of voter turnout. Although getting younger people is a good thing this age is far too young, some may even believe that the age of 18 is too young, and not even worth it. Annys Shin the author of this article claims that younger voters have been something of a bust, and this idea can be supported from the simple fact the 26th amendment, granting suffrage to 18 year olds, was only passed by congress because they believed that it was wrong that ... • 13. Tsar Nicholas II’s Abdication was Preventable Tsar Nicholas II s abdication in February 1917 was an event that both he could have prevented, however a number of factors meant it was out of his control. A revolution in Russia was inevitable and Nicolas was hapless to have been crowed a time of liberation; however his personality traits and actions lead to abdication in February 1917. Nicholas lack of political understanding was a constant delimitative factor throughout his rule, especially regarding Russia revolutionary stance, the Russo Japanese War, the 1905 revolution, The October Manifesto, Russia s participation in World War and the influencing factors of his wife and Gerogery Rasputin. Which lead to the question, was it Nicholas alone that led to his abdication in February 1917 or was it is combination of influencing factors? By 1894, Russia was economically and socially backwards, needing a ruler who could guide them to modernisation and reform, without this a revolution is inevitable. Due to its proximity, Westernisers were contrasting their lifestyle to that of the Europeans post industrialisation, identifying clear injustices in their society. Literary critic Belinsky explains Everything great, noble , human and spiritual came up, grew, burst into splendid bloom and brought fourth sumptuous fruit on European soil (after the industrial revolution) Russians never had much to contrast their lifestyle to, however the boom of Europe proposed an idea of an alternation which could be achieved in Russia. This article was first published in Psychology Today magazine in 1974. Hardin has written many works in his time dealing with similar topics, such as his articles Tragedy of the commons (Hardin,1968). His writings mainly focus on social dilemmas showing interest in economics and ecology, one example is his book Living Within Limits: Ecology, Economics, and Population Taboos Oxford University Press (Hardin,1993). He manages to provide several examples to support an idea he is developing. Hardin refers to the Food for peace program as an example to appeal to the case of the World Food Bank . The discussion of both the potential negative and positive sides of the Food for peace program is what build the author s credibility. His opinions do not seem to be biased as he merely analyzes the situation off of statistical numbers and past experiences. Fate is the idea that the outcome of events are out of our control, that your life is predetermined. Both of these works use the idea that one cannot escape their fate, that it is set and nothing can change it. However, in Oedipus the King, Oedipus believes that he can escape or change his fate while the characters in Crash do not even try to. In the play, Oedipus the King, Oedipus believes that he can control his fate, however, he realizes that he cannot so tries to escape it. This situation was out of Daniel s control, it was not his fault and he could do nothing about Farhad, who had acted on his emotions and assumptions. Crash exposes that racial stereotypes are still a big issue in the 21st century, which I agree with. People often do follow stereotypes, even though they try not to. Also, people do not want to be judged according to stereotypes but, they still participate in acts that feed them. An example of this from Crash is Anthony s character. He complains about being stereotyped but then steals Jean s car, feeding a typical African American stereotype. In the movie, Anthony encounters Cameron when attempting to steal his car and fails because Cameron is not scared of him, just ashamed. Cameron says to Anthony, Look at me. You embarrass me. Throughout the play, there are many historical references; African American music and ghosts that blend Christian, folk fare, and African American themes together. In this research paper, the primary goal is to be the designer of the play while focusing on creating the set. My approach to creating the set of the play is to use the play introduction and then find information about that time by doing a quick web search. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since this is all happening at Doakers house, then only one set needs to be designed. The shape is going to be 2x3 and about the medium size that way everyone can properly see what is going on without having to move about in his or her seats. There is no need to shift the scenery in and out of sight because Scene II would happen in the dining room, the box and stairs both will be made out of wood, and since this is happening in the 1930 s; there will be huge historical changes that will defiantly change the scenery. Some example of historical differences could include color, furniture, wallpaper, and technology. Some properties that would be included in the play would be some rope, a gold cross, a bible, a dollar bill, some cups, rags, and an envelope. The reason I would want Scene II to happen in the dining room is because I could create one big box that would have the living room and dining room already built, thus there would be no need to create the kitchen. As you can see, designing a play is a lot of hard with tons of little details that go into it. Since this play set in the 30 s, there was a vast scenery change between modern today and before. Queen Elizabeth The Best Queen In European History On September 7th, at Greenwich Palace in England, a young girl called, the illegitimate daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn was born. Her name was Elizabeth and she would become one of the most significant English monarchs of all time. She lost her mother when she was 2 and her father passed away when she was 13. • 38. Description Of The Barn Cats Essay Scenario: It s autumn and, just like any other season, you re hard at work at your barn. Your barn cats are hard at work, as well, hunting and munching on the overabundant rodent population nesting in your hay. In a brief moment of rest, you remove your gloves, wincing as the cold air hits your dry, cracked skin. One of the barn cats also joins you in your reprieve and you reach down to run your hands through her fur. Briefly, you notice a bit of nasal discharge and some scabs on her paws and face, but you chalk it up to the weather and get back to work. A couple of days go by and you begin to notice pus like sores on your hands. They re inflamed and red and suddenly you re reminded of the barn cat you pet a while back. Deciding to give her a more thorough once over, you return to the barn on your precious day off to hunt her down. It s easy enough to find her; she s resting atop a pile of blankets while the other cats are out and about hunting. She appears thinner than you remember her being and she barely even registers your approach, but you immediately notice rodent bites on her face and paws that appear infected. Upon closer inspection, beneath her fur there are multiple crusted wounds, some circular bumps while others appear to be swollen and flat. The skin is also broken in some places, equally as crusty and flaking off in places. You know that these are ulcerated nodules and, regardless of an underlying infection, they need to be treated before they get worse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the fire burned it creep into the ground and was lit ablaze by coal long left behind, striking the beginning of the end for the small, unsuspecting Pennsylvania town. The flared for about a month and when workers finally dug back the burned earth they found it had burned much deeper than they thought. Coal is created by plants that died and fell to the ground, then this plant matter is waterlogged by rainfall by things like sediment and other plant matter compressing it until over time it is compressed into a carbon rich rock that burns easily known as coal. Like any fire, coal will only burn if it has a constant supply of three things; fuel, heat, and oxygen. The best way to put out any fire is to deprive it of one of those to things, the easiest being heat or oxygen, problem is coal can burn in an environment with as little as 1% or 2% oxygen and the air that we breathe has about 21% oxygen and pre existing cracks in rocks permit airflow straight to the fire.(Palus) (Perkins) The second option is to smother the flames and deprive the fire of its heat source, but the fire was ... Both parties are equally stubborn and both are determined to convince the other. In the second half of the passage, conflict arises between Fanny and Sir Thomas when Sir Thomas tries to prevent Fanny from waking up too early to have breakfast with William the next day. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the extract, both characters argue about the clergyman profession, with Edmund trying to defend his choice of profession and Mary expressing her disdain for it. The passage writes he had reasoned, she had ridiculed , showing that Edmund had been trying to persuade and make peace with Mary while Mary had been the more aggressive one in the argument, refusing to back down. The use of the word ridiculed also suggests that Mary was deliberately trying to hurt Edmund s feelings and was being especially harsh and spiteful. The pair later parted at last with mutual vexation , not having been able to win over the other or come to a compromise. This conflict shows that perhaps this courtship was doomed from the start as neither is willing to give in to the other. Furthermore, Edmund and Mary are continually shown to have differing and conflicting values throughout the novel, so much so that arguing with Mary causes Edmund to be upset and worn out with civility . This is contrasted with the much more agreeable relationship between Edmund and Fanny that is shown in earlier parts of the novel, such as when Edmund says But with you, Fanny, there may be peace . Hence, this conflict between Edmund and Mary hints at the impeding failure of this courtship at the end of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The play was a different and clever take on the mystery novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The play the book tell the story about an attempted murder of a man called Sir Henry Baskerville, who has just inherited his uncle, Sir Charles Baskerville s estate. There is some suspicion surrounding Sir Charles death. It is said that he died of a heart attack, but his friend who found him dead, Dr. James Mortimer, noticed an expression of fear on his face and the prints of gigantic hound nearby. So the doctor brings the case to Mr. Holmes and it begins. The venue of the show was the Suzanne Roberts Theatre in Philadelphia. It was a very sleek and modern looking place. It was smaller than I imagined outside and inside of the theatre. The stage was a perfect square black box type stage, completely surrounded by lights. The show was done by the Philadelphia Theatre Company, and the show was written by American playwright Ken Ludwig. The contemporary drama show premiered at the Arena Stage in Washington, DC on January 16th, 2015. Ludwig s interpretation of the story was very clever and funny. It was close to being farcical, but the actual premise of the show kept it from reaching that point. There were two things that made the play stand out.
