Working Title:
The name of our production is “To Health With It ”. We decided to pick this title name
for our production because it’s looking at our subject in a more humorous way, as
our production is aimed more at younger generations, compared to the older
generations. So we want it to be as light as possible, knowing how touchy the
subject can be, so we want our audience to feel comfortable and supported by the
production.
The title itself, we believe relates to everybody not just the age range we planned to
aim the video at, which is why we believe it was a good choice for our production.
The title is also, to most people we hope will be catchy, and attractive people to
viewing our production, especially if they are looking for examples or help around the
subject of health. This also part of the message we hope to give out from the
production. That there are many different websites and help lines, that can help with
mental and physical health, avoiding problems likely depression, being overweight
and diabetes.
Proposed Duration:
The predicted duration of our social action project will be 10 minutes long, as we
have to add in many documentary elements (interviews, narrations and analysis)
along with the addition of the health and fitness aspect to keep the audience
intrigued. The project is quite short so we shouldn’t make it too long, however, we do
need to keep the audience interested for a sufficient amount of time such as a little
comedy, so that they can be intrigued in the film yet not be too bored. This is a good
amount for a social action action project as we can include quite a lot of information
in this amount of time without going overboard.
Completion Deadline:
The date that we believe that we will complete the social action project by will be
december 2017. This is because we would like to complete the production and post
production as soon as possible due to the fact that we would want to release the the
production in the new year (January 2018). This is because we plan to help with the
new market trend which is commonly stated “New Year New Me”, we aim to
campaign and publicise our production during this time of January to gain a large
target audience and make our social action project worth looking at, to help people
2. with health. however with no form of public advertisement, we wouldn’t gain a small,
let alone general, audience. This is why we use things such as posters to promote
our short production so that we can gain a larger audience.
Genre:
The genre of our social action project is documentary. The subject of our
documentary is Health, Fitness and Lifestyle. We have decided to work on a
documentary subjected on health, fitness and lifestyle as it is one of the biggest
issue in our local Redbridge borough. We have chosen documentary because it
leaves a huge impact on people no matter what the message is given accross, it will
still be thought again and again over a long period of time, whether due to the truth
leaving a lasting effect on the audience, or due to the horrific facts catching the
audience off guard. This will also help develop popularity among other audiences as
people who have seen the documentary will be talking about it to others and they
may watch it too as they may be motivated or want to help spread the motivation.
Target Audience:
The age range for our documentary is people of between 16 and 18 years of age.
This is due to the fact that, within our documentary, there are issues which we have
found that this age range are struggling with and are under informed about. Due to
this, we believe people aged between 16 to 18 are the suitable audience to focus on
for our production. This is due to the fact that now more than ever a high percentage
of teenagers want to have a good body, whilst some teenagers are getting body
shamed and bullied. People older than this can also enjoy the documentary, as they
will also have some struggles with the issue but they are more informed than the
younger generation. People younger than this may want to watch the documentary if
they want to learn about the issues involved but the main focus is on 16 to 18 year
olds.
Background:
We decided to produce a short production based on the genre of documentary and
on the subgenre of health, fitness and lifestyle these factors are major aspects to a
large majority of people if not everyone in the world. In order to send across a
message to our target audience, we feel as if health is the best way to do so. This is
because the subject is constantly in everyone's minds.
Research:
3. As a group we have decided to plan our locations. We chose settings which are
involve around an a story we plan to make, so household, athletics track high street
for food related purposes. The reason we have chosen these location is because
they are close by and available to the whole cast and crew especially the public. This
will make it easier for us to film there as we don't need permission, plus, these
locations were most favored by our audiences when collecting primary data for our
research. In this way, we have met our audiences requirements and attract a large
audience, making the production a hot subject. We also had a questionnaire as we
wanted to know what else our audience expect involved around food and health film.
Another aspect that is useful to our group is that we do not need costumes or props
as they are not needed in our production or we already have what we plan to use,
this is cost efficient for our production.
The whole plot of our short film,To Health With It, uses the ‘Todorov Theory’ yet not
towards the end or after. Tzvetan Todorov’s theory follows a three part structure
where they begin with an equilibrium, where everything is balanced. Then something
comes along to disrupt that equilibrium, and finally reach a resolution, when
equilibrium is restored. At the beginning of To Health With It, we plan to show the
equilibrium theory through a short story throughout our documentary. The story
explains how eating unhealthy and treating your body with no care can affect you
mentally, although in our story our character comes to the realisation of the factors
that have caused his physical and mental issue, and what he has to do to to fix his
life.
Synopsis: “Our documentary is based on health and fitness. We will be showing
fatty foods and talking about the affects it may have on your body. In this problematic
documentary, we will be interviewing different people and ask them questions
regarding their health, fitness and diet. At the same time we will be showing a
character going through a rough time due to his poor health and unfit lifestyle. This
character will also be represented as a human life equilibrium in a way. Towards the
end, we will interview a professional fitness coach and share his views and opinions
on fitness, health and diet and at the same we will show the same character turning
his life around by working out and feeling good about himself.”.
Style:
4. The style of the documentary we are going to produce is formal with a serious feel,
due to the fact that the documentary is centered around a serious issue that can be
very sensitive. The documentaries atmosphere is going to be deep as, most of the
time the characters, the interviewer and interviewee will be discussing serious and in
depth issues. We are doing this so that the audience will realise that what we are
discussing is very important. Alongside this, we plan to film with a variety of
professionals whilst sharing some common misconceptions, we will do this to make
sure that people know what is correct and what isn't. We will also be showing the
different types of behaviour and the emotions that a person can have when dealing
with certain issues and how they feel before, during and afterwards.
Approximate budget requirements:
Our total budget for our short horror film is £4,783.41. This covers most of our
resources such as cameras, and lighting as well as being able to pay our cast and
crew for their roles in the production and hard work. We have managed to invest
some of our own money into this production as we are confident enough. With our
money we have brought many different props such as food which we will need to use
when we show the struggle for some people who are struggling with their health
and/or fitness. We have our budget set under £5k as our documentary is going to be
short (around 10 minutes long) and we do not require too much money for things like
props, transport, make up unlike movies and other documentaries.
