Gen Z and the marketplaces - let's translate their needsLaura Szabó
The product workshop focused on exploring the requirements of Generation Z in relation to marketplace dynamics. We delved into their specific needs, examined the specifics in their shopping preferences, and analyzed their preferred methods for accessing information and making purchases within a marketplace. Through the study of real-life cases , we tried to gain valuable insights into enhancing the marketplace experience for Generation Z.
The workshop was held on the DMA Conference in Vienna June 2024.

Meaning of the Documentary: Spread awareness on health and fitness
Storyline : In our documentary we hope to include a mini film of a guy who is
struggling with his health and fitness and how he can cope with the pressure, the
temptations, the people, and the difficulties surrounding him throughout time. This
character will hopefully draw empathy from many people especially within our target
audience as they may have gone or been through or just know from what they have
seen and may use this documentary to help them, help them look into, or have a
general better understanding of their health and fitness and what it means to them
Looking at the rest of our documentary, we know it will not be as easy to generate a
storyline for it compared to a storyline that would be set out for a movie or music
video. How we plan to film our documentary is that besides the story (that has
already been mentioned and included); is that do a segment where we have
someone discussing food that people nowadays (especially the people in our target
audience) associate themselves with. And we also plan to include interviews where
we go out and conduct interviews with people. These interviews will happen mainly
outdoors and on high streets as that's where many people go to eat due to the
variety of choices given to them to eat many, many times which won't stop them from
continuing to do so. Filming outdoors will help us and the audience find and see
many people to interview on their preferred decisions and why they have made those
choices.
Target audience : We conducted a questionnaire/ survey on health and fitness
interviewed people about it.
2. We aimed for our target audience to be within high school students
(including college and sixth form students), looking at our results; we
gathered that our primary target audience will be 16 to 18 year olds. Many people
who are within our primary target audience are in 6th form or college. We also know
that around this age people either look at their health and fitness more, or have less
care for what they eat and what they do. We will be able to ask them on their choices
and preferences and their opinions towards health and fitness and how they think it
is or isn’t a factor in their lives.
Our secondary target audience will be other high school students (or generally
people between the ages of 12-19) as well as the friends and family of those in our
primary target audience as they can either to them or learn from them
Locations : The various locations which we will included in documentary will range
high streets, houses and possible transport systems. Our documentary is about
health and fitness where one of the most talked thing involving it which will be on our
project is food. We plan to use high streets and places where people go to eat in
those high streets. We believe this will help us as many schools are located near
high streets such as Barkingside High Street where we would expect to find people
in our target audience. A house will be used for the short film which we planned to
film to add to our documentary which will be the house where one of our production
members currently resides in.
Props / Costumes : We will not be needed too many props however we will be
using food as a part of the mise en scene (for example in our segment where one of
us talks about food, we will be using food from different fast food chains).
Actors : Including interviewers and segment hosts as actors, there will be more than
one actor in our social action production. We are asking others (outside our
classes/school) if they would/could join our documentary. We are not asking people
from other groups who are also working on their project as we do not want to distract
them from the work they are doing with their work which could also possibly harm
their production which is not fair on them at all. However, if a member of another
group wanted to be in our documentary, we cannot take any responsibility for the
progression of that person and his/her team regardless of what results from their
contribution to our documentary. We plan to use one main actor for our mini movie,
one host for a segment talking about food and one interviewer who will be
interviewing people. We have most of our members who will be filling those roles
and if needed, then all group members will be included in the cast.
Transportation : Transportation will range from trains, buses, taxis (if needed), and
cars which may also be used. The transport systems will be fully available for us to
use at our filming locations. At least one of our members holds a dull drivers license
therefore in case where we may not be able to use buses or trains etc, we will be
able to use private transport.
3. Editing techniques : There are a range of cuts, transitions and filters
that you could add during editing, for example, continuity, match on
action, fade ins and outs, wipes, dissolves, match cuts and more. Without these
editing techniques, our documentary will be too basic and too boring which will
therefore cause our audience to lose interest in our work. Our aim is to entertain our
viewers and bring change which can only be achieved if we have their attention,
editing techniques help us entertain our viewers which helps as people would pay
more attention to things that interest them. However, we will need to be very
cautious that we do not make mistakes with these editing techniques. For example,
we need to make sure we don’t make any continuity errors, meaning that everything
should be kept the same in each shot, whether it’s a bag, piece of clothing, and even
ourselves. This is why we have our continuity managers in order to make sure
everything is in place. We want our audience to focus on the work we do, not the
mistakes that have been made.
Visual style : We hope to show this documentary is an expository approach as we
aim to teach our viewers about their health and fitness. We aim to use things such as
lighting to show or generate things such as mood and emotions for example when
we show our mini movie, we may use black and white to show some deep and dark
times for our character.
