3. PRINCIPAL’S LETTER
School trips are an incredible opportunity for young minds that
are constantly seeking information, experiences, and acquiring
knowledge. In our experience, when these young minds go
beyond the classroom, they cement and build upon curricular
subjects and lessons. Outdoor learning helps the students
develop a more holistic understanding of themselves, their
skills, their curriculum, and how all this ultimately relates to the
development of the world.
Vista International School, Hyderabad, is committed to create a
vital link between learning in the classroom, the students’ inner
lives, and the world at large. The aim of our institution, is to take
teaching beyond the walls of the classroom which involves
outward exploration and creativity.
We chose this particular program to Jaipur for its unique
approach to understand the historical and cultural aspects. We
visited several places in Jaipur, including Amber Fort, Jantar
Mantar, and Chokhi Dhani and exposed our students to hands-on
workshops on blue pottery and block printing.
Helping us to organise and implement this journey was a
company that specialises in student education travel. EdTerra
Edventures brings over ten years of experience of having helped
over 40,000 students learn from the diversity of our planet. We
are happy to share the success of this collaboration with EdTerra
Edventures. We seek to make our students global citizens
who actively understand and contribute to the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals. Further, from EdTerra’s travel
curriculum and to develop 21st Century Skills amongst millennial
students, we opted for Student Media Projects, especially
EdTerra’s Travel Journalists Program. This magazine — Student
Travel Chronicle (Jaipur) is a product of our students’ teamwork
to write and collect their journey experiences and impressions
in a comprehensive manner. We hope you will enjoy reading this
Chronicle and have valuable points to take away from students’
experiences.
Finally, we, at Vista International School, Hyderabad, would like
to acknowledge our teachers. The success of this journey is only
possible with their responsible and informed efforts. I would
also like to recognise the support and assistance provided by
EdTerra Edventures Private Limited. in successfully conducting
this program. We also thank our parents, who remain our most
fervent partners and collaborators for the education of all the
students who study and work together.

OUR JOURNEY
01.
Our journey was like a fantasy. It was a dream-like journey through Jaipur’s most famous sites. The flight trip from
Hyderabad was the first step that we took to embark on our journey. After that, it was all just fun and sheer enthusiasm
to explore our country’s culture. Everything from the famous night market to the Amber Fort widened our knowledge and
understanding of the Rajasthani culture and tradition. We believe that this trip has the potential become a part of our
permanent memory. We, team Goblin Hut, would like to pay homage to this journey through this write-up. This journey is
potentially the greatest journey of our school time.
Our journey started the moment we landed in Jaipur. On day one, we had a pleasant experience in the Jaipur night market,
followed by a mind boggling puppet show. On the next day, we visited the magnificent Hawa Mahal and the legendary
Jantar Mantar. After lunch, we had a trip to the Albert Hall Museum, which had a rich collection of ancient arms armour,
paintings and models preserved within glass boxes.
At Jantar Mantar, we experienced the genius of our ancestors and their interest in astronomy. Our artistic skills were put
to test at Block Printing and Blue Pottery workshops. On that evening, we had our dinner at Chokhi Dhani. On the third
day, we had a trip to Amber fort where we learnt about the lifestyle of the kings and the queens.
We learnt about many new things on this trip. These three days gave us immense knowledge and innumerable memories.
Our journey ended in the afternoon with the distribution of some awards and badges. Our journey to Jaipur was fun and
informative.

JANTAR MANTAR
02.
When we first entered Jantar Mantar, we were surprised and intrigued by the fact that all the instruments were very
complex even though they were made centuries ago without any technology. We were also amazed to see how people in
ancient times perceived and worked on complex things such as astronomy.
Jantar Mantar is a unique and interesting site. When we entered the place, we saw large instruments. We learnt that
each instrument had its unique function. They helped us realise the importance of science and technology that was used
centuries ago. We learnt about zodiacs, constellations and altitude. The instruments work in the presence of sunlight.
As the sunlight falls on the instrument and the shadow is the one that tells us the times constellations, zodiacs, altitude
etc. Then we got to see the biggest sundial in the which was Samrat Yantra. There are five Jantar Mantars in India. The
Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is the fifth one in India. Every instrument is very intriguing and accurate. We made our own
sundial as a part of ‘Make Your Own Sundial’ activity. Our experience was really wonderful and knowledgeable. We were
happy that we got to see the ancient architecture and know how intelligent people centuries ago were. So, to conclude,
we had a lot of fun and gained a lot of knowledge about time and astronomy.
9. JANTAR MANTAR
08
We learnt that the Jantar Mantar was the
brainchild of Sawai Jai Singh II who created
not one but five such observatories in India
Various yantras or instruments at Jantar
Mantar were a fine example of architectural
and mathematical genius
The Samrat Yantra at Jantar Mantar can tell
time at an accuracy of 2 seconds without
using any modern technology
It was exciting to see how time-keeping was
practiced before the invention of modern-
day clocks

BLOCK PRINTING &BLUE POTTERY
03.
We believe that the art of Block Printing and Blue Pottery is a unique way to express emotions. It is a traditional craft of
Rajasthan. It takes a lot of patience and hard work to craft such awe-inspiring clothing and pottery. We enjoyed it a lot
and we are happy to get a chance to learn about this art.
In Block Printing, we get a cloth, and we have to paint the cloth using stamps and natural colours. In Blue Pottery, we get
coaster paints, brushes and pencils. We have to draw a design on the coaster and paint it.
Blue Pottery and Block Painting workshops were interesting because they helped us discover our artistic side. Learning
about these crafts introduced us to Jaipur’s rich artistic culture. It was an excellent way to expose ourselves to explore
the vast artistic horizon of Jaipur.
These activities were like a hidden treasure in our adventure. Everyone should witness these masterpieces, which are
intricate and elegant outputs of all the efforts the artisans put in. The best part of all this is that they are handmade.

BLOCK PRINTING &BLUE POTTERY
Inspired by skilled artists and craftspersons,
we decided to make our own Blue Pottery
articles
The beauty of Block Printing lies in the
unique patterns created by each wooden
block
On our educational journey, we learnt that
Blue Pottery came to Jaipur from Persia
and Afghanistan via Mughal Courts
This was a rare experience to first observe
local artisans of Jaipur engage in the
practice of Block-Printing, and then to try it
out ourselves

AMBER FORT
04.
We trekked our way to the very beautiful Amber Fort that stands on the top of a hill. It was incredibly amazing to learn
about Mughal and Hindu architecture. Our kind tour guide explained everything beautifully and in a detailed way. The
Maota lake looked splendid from the fort. We indulged in some handicraft shops in the Amber Fort. There was a ‘magic
flower’ carved on a marble panel on a pillar in the Sheesh Mahal. Seven beautiful designs including a lotus, lion’s tail,
scorpion, hooded cobra, fish tail, corn and an elephant trunk are carved on it. It is really an artistic marvel. We were
surprised when we saw the mirror mosaics and coloured glass all over the Sheesh Mahal. We all were asked to turn
on our torch lights and we saw the mirrors on the walls shining like a thousand stars. It was truly magical. We all were
truly honoured to be able to visit such a beautiful place. Thanks to EdTerra Edventures for giving us such an amazing
opportunity and experience. We want to especially thank our Journey Mentors for taking care of us.

apprised us of both historical contexts and
facts related to Amber Fort

CHOKHI DHANI
05.
We had a great time at Choki Dhani because it is a great place to experience the Rajasthani culture, food, traditions and
its heritage. Chokhi Dhani embodies Rajasthan’s rural culture with hut-shaped infrastructures, Mandala adorned mud
walls, illumination from lamps and lanterns, welcoming smiles, a variety of activities and a tasteful spread of Rajasthani
delicacies served in a traditional manner. The design and architecture of Chokhi Dhani is that of a village. Though it is a
mock village, it totally gave the vibe of a real village. Chokhi Dhani displayed the vibrant culture, art, folklore and tradition
of Rajasthan. There were a lot of attractions and activities that were really fun. These included animal and cart rides,
different entertainment shows and dance performances. Other interesting things such as their museum, shops, gaming
centres and temples were really amazing. We had a lot of fun and of course, the food was the best. We had authentic
Rajasthani cuisine, in which we were served on leaf platters and had around twenty six dishes. Overall, Chokhi Dhani is
an amazing place to spend time with family and friends. We would love to visit it again.

CHOKHI DHANI

Rajasthan
A Rajasthani thali is not only about dal-
