FROM THE PRINCIPAL
'S DESK
At Lotus Valley International School, Noida, we believe
that there is no substitute for ‘Education through Action’
and that, exploring people, places, cultures, economic
opportunities, and technological advancements
through travel, complements and completes the
educational experience.
This philosophy matches our endeavor to create
responsible and dynamic global leaders and global
citizens by bringing the knowledge of the world to the
classroom as well as encouraging students to go out
into the world. These two methods are critical to create
the three pillars of international success in the modern
inter-connected world: empathy, understanding and
international collaboration.
In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed
to Singapore under a program titled, Singapore -
Island State Metropolis. Our students visited beautiful
locations within this great nation. To augment the
broader program, we selected the Young Authors
Program, which ensured students’ engagement
and immersion. This Student Travel Chronicle is an
outcome of this collaborative and exploratory module.
It captures the entire journey in students’ own words
and photographs. It even showcases their learning
from the intense, five day interaction, with one of the
world’s most enigmatic nations.
I would also like to recognize the efforts of EdTerra
Edventures; a Truly Educational School Trips company
that is well aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular
goals and developmental needs of students. We
acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially
their on-journey educators. Their professionalism made
for an effortless, safe and enriching travel experience
for our students and teachers.
Lastly, we extend a heartfelt thanks to the students,
who participated and engaged with the program
enthusiastically. Our willing learners had an enriching
experience, the enduring benefits of which they will reap
all through their academic life and career. Each parent
may feel proud of this highly demonstrable publication
that will keep reminding their daughters and sons of
their achievement and capabilities, all life long.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ruchi Seth

MESSAGE FROM EDTERRA
A journey to foreign soil is always replete with learning
and excitement for any young and inquisitive mind.
When the destination is as rich as Singapore, one can
only imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students
may absorb and construct learning out of the many
differences and similarities that mark the cultures and
people of these two great Asians nations.
For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling
students to construct knowledge through a meaningful
encounter with a new culture, without diluting their fun
and excitement or restricting their wandering, curious
minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program
Development Team (PDT), which is comprised of both
Indian and international experts. The PDT carefully
designs culturally neutral tools that enable students
to meaningfully observe, record and articulate their
impressions. These tools are deployed through a
process that encourages teamwork, meaningful
discussions, recording observations through digital
media and finally synthesizing all this into a media
product that showcases the ideas and learning of the
students.
Christine Massey
This publication, ‘Singapore - Island State Metropolis’,
is one such media product that captures the five day
journey of learning of the gifted students of Lotus Valley
International School, Noida. This beautiful book serves
as a window into Singapore for those students, peers
and parents who could not be a part of the journey. It
showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of
the students, credit for which is rightfully due to their
parents and school.
EdTerra Edventures would like to thank Lotus Valley
International School, Noida,, for their efforts and
support which made this journey of discovery possible,
with a special mention of the Principal, Dr. Ruchi Seth,
for guiding us throughout the process of finalizing
and undertaking the journey. EdTerra would also like
to thank the accompanying staff, for their sense of
adventure and dynamism that the French call ‘joie
de vivre’. Their energy made our jobs easy, and more
importantly, made for a more memorable journey for
the students.
We encourage you to read on and re-live the learning
and adventures of these students through the words
and photographs that follow.
Sincerely,
Christine Massey

money independently and even bought presents
for friends and family back home. Orchard Street
has so many amazing malls and high-end stores
selling almost everything anyone would like to buy.
After the day’s shopping was done, the excitement
continued when we went for the Night Safari.
It was thrilling to know that we could see more
than 2,500 animals from 350 species at the Night
Safari. With enough excitement for one day to fire
up our dreams, we finally retired for the day and
went straight to our hotels.
The next day we visited the Science Center. It has
850 exhibits spread over eight exhibition galleries.
There, we witnessed interesting illusions along
with a mirror maze which was very confusing. The
observatory in the Science Center is one of the
few observatories in the world located near the
equator.
After learning that science could be fun too, we
went to Sentosa Island, the most awaited place. It
had beautiful beaches and we managed to catch
a beautiful sunset there. We had a great time in
Singapore.
The Merlion is the official mascot of Singapore.
It is an imaginary creature which is half lion and
half fish, combining a lion’s head with the body of
a fish. The name is a combination of two words,
‘mer’ meaning the sea, and ‘lion’. The fish body
represents Singapore’s origin as a fishing village.
The lion head represents Singapore’s original
name—Singapura—meaning ‘lion city’.
Singapore has so many fantastic places to visit
that it offers a completely unique experience.
There is the Singapore Flyer which is the second
largest Ferris wheel in the world, after the High
Roller in Las Vegas. There is a difference of only
2.6 meters between the two Ferris wheels and
the Singapore Flyer was an incredible experience.
The Fountain of Wealth in Singapore is the largest
fountain in the world. It is in one of Singapore’s
largest shopping malls, Suntec City.
We went to the Jurong Bird Park, which at 50 acres
is Asia’s largest park and houses more than 5000
birds from 400 species. The bird show was also
great fun. Perhaps the most enjoyable part of part
of Singapore was Orchard Street, a 2.2 km stretch
of fabulous shopping! On this trip, we learned to
take on new responsibilities. We learnt to deal with

hunt as mighty eagles, falcons and hawks showed
off their moves during the Kings of the Skies show.
At the High Flyers show, we saw the talents of
several of our winged friends and realized how
intelligent they are. We especially loved Birdz of
Play, the bird-themed water playground, where
we had a soaking good time under the giant
tipping bucket, zipping across the flying fox and
playing arcade games. A visit to the amazing bird
sanctuary is guaranteed to sweep you off your
feet.
We clicked a lot of pictures and had a lot of fun.
Everything was so colorful, bright and happy
at Jurong Bird Park that it gave flight to our
imagination too. We also learnt about the principle
of 3R’s i.e., Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. These
principles are the ones we should always follow in
our lives in order to make this planet a beautiful
place to live in.
As dusk falls, the shutter opened for the Night
Safari, welcoming you to the world of nocturnal
creatures and their dimly lit homes. Opened in
1994 and located next to the Singapore Zoo, the
Night Safari is the world’s first safari park for
nocturnal animals.
After a lovely breakfast on a beautiful sunny day,
we were all set to visit the Jurong Bird Park. The
Jurong Bird Park was established on 3rd January
1971. It is Asia’s largest park and home to more
than 5000 birds across 400 species. The park
offers visitors an immersive experience with large
open concept displays that teach us many things.
Planet earth is home to us humans and to animals
too. Therefore, it is our responsibility to respect
Mother Nature in all her glory, birds, animals, fish,
insects, trees, water bodies and air.
There are various star attractions across the park.
Jurong Bird Park was a fantastic place to see
exotic and unique species of birds. After observing
the beautiful birds, we realized that nature is full of
a variety of colors, and there are so many birds we
had never seen before. There is a Flamingo Lake
with hundreds of birds and a Pelican Cove close
to it.
With the world’s most complete collection of
pelicans, the Pelican Cove houses spectacular
species like the American white, African pink-
backed and the Asian spot-billed pelican among
many others. We were entertained by the majestic
creatures of flight. We witnessed the heat of the

On the Space Next show, we learnt about outer
space, meteors and planets. It had many mirrors,
rotatable and of different shapes…we enjoyed
clicking pictures there. We played several games
there and one in particular, taught us that
sometimes the army (military) can use invisible
rays to attack their enemies.
We visited all the five halls. Others felt like the
world of science is massive and there was so
much more to discover. We realized that the
Omni Theater is the only IMAX dome theater in
Singapore, which is located in the Science Center
itself. This visit to the Science Center inspired
many of us to consider becoming astronomers or
scientists in the future because everything there
was so interesting. Besides interactive screen
games such as the Cloud Maker, where you can
create your own cloud, there is also a Sunshine
Recorder that measures the duration of sunlight
shone on your birthday.
On this visit we discovered alot about climate
change and its negative impacts, ways to reduce
our carbon footprint, sustainability and recycling.
We thank EdTerra for including Science Centre in
our journey.
On 5th June 2018, our entire tour group visited the
Science Center. We all were really excited about
starting our day with this and when we entered
the Science Center, it looked really colorful and
amazing. It has over 850 exhibits spread over
eight exhibition galleries and gets over a million
visitors a year.
The Science Centre was inaugurated on 10th
December 1977 and has not become dated even
so many years later. A competition was organized
by the Science Center Board in 1970 to find a
suitable design for the center. Young architect
Raymond Woo, who won the competition, said he
had thought of Egypt’s pyramids to come up with
its spaceship look. The design aimed at enticing
young scientists and school children.
We started exploring the space by first entering
the mirror maze and we thoroughly enjoyed trying
to find our way out. Then there were many fun
activities which taught the practical applications
of what we have been learning about mostly in text
books. It was fun to visit the Phobia room, though
we all got scared in the lift itself!

towards the so-called calm waves. As we were
busy posing and clicking pictures of each other, the
calm waves turned bigger and surprised us all by
submerging us in sea water. Some frowned while
others laughed. However, the laughing faces too
soon changed to frowns when our friends realized
that they didn’t have dry clothes to change into.
We could see ports and ships in the distance
and it seemed as if Instagram-worthy pictures
were being clicked every minute. After having a
thoroughly relaxing time at the beach, we headed
for the famous Light and Sound show, ‘The Wings
of Time’. Nobody could have guessed what
wonders were awaiting us at the normal looking
stone structure. This award winning spectacular
show is set against the majestic open sea and tells
us a story about two friends who went through
time with the help of a magical bird. The lights,
water fountains, lasers, 3D effects and fireworks
left us all in awe.
Sentosa Island, even though small in size, was a
supreme example of cleanliness and co-ordination.
Its size is inconsequential because it packs quite a
punch and has something for everyone!
All of us were very excited and enthusiastic about
our visit to Sentosa Island. Sentosa is the fourth
largest island in Singapore, which has a total of
63 islands. The word ‘Sentosa’ means peace and
tranquility in Malay. We were all looking forward to
having a wonderful time there. We rode the cable
cars to reach Sentosa and the view beneath was
spectacular. When we looked down from the cable
cars, we realized we were really high up and even
some of the bravest amongst us were scared
on the ride across. We saw our first view of the
Merlion of Sentosa from the cable cars.
We used the Sentosa Express to get to the Beach
Station. It was truly a unique vehicle and even
though we didn’t get place to sit before we reached
our destination, it was worth it. We spent about an
hour at the Sentosa Beach and it was great fun.
In the blink of an eye (maybe even less), we had
taken off our shoes and headed towards the
beautiful waves. Our feet sinking in the sand
gave us a unique feeling of relief and calmness.
After shopping till we dropped the day before, our
feet deserved this beachy heaven. Such was the
attraction of the waves that even those of us who
are generally scared of water jumped in and moved

inhabited this amazing space and it was fun to be
around them!
Each of the seven zones in the park is based
on a blockbuster movie or a television show,
featuring their own unique attractions, character
appearances, dining and shopping areas. The food
choices were varied, and it was all very tasty.
Hollywood is the main entrance area of the park.
It is a replica of the Hollywood Boulevard and
even has the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Madagascar zone was the most thrilling. It
had the biggest attraction, ‘Madagascar: A Crate
Adventure’ which is a state-of-the-art river boat
ride with animatronics, surround sound and
projections. The voices of all the characters from
the movie Madagascar spoke to us during the ride.
There was also a zone called Ancient Egypt with
attractions like pyramids and pharaoh’s tombs.
It had some fun filled rides too. By the end of our
day there, we had seen and met characters from
Sesame Street, Shrek, Madagascar, Transformers
and been transported to worlds we had only
seen in movies. It was all like a dream come true.
In short, Universal Studios was a magical and
wonderful experience.
Universal Studios, Singapore’s only movie theme
park is located in Sentosa Island. We were all so
excited on the morning that we were going to the
park because most of us were looking forward to
it since the trip began. When we walked through
the gates of the park, we were all grinning from ear
to ear. It combined entertainment, rides, shows,
food and shopping options and we felt like one day
would never be enough for us to try everything!
The theme park features 24 attractions including
a pair of dueling coasters that brush past one
another in several near misses in their aerial
combat. It is inspired by the Battlestar Galactica
series. Thrill–seekers can choose between a
waster where they are seated or other rides
where you are suspended mid-air. Exciting loops,
sudden turns, breathtaking drops and thrilling
near-collisions will make you scream your heart
out. The rides were thrilling, and somewhat scary
too. People were screaming out of excitement and
so were we. Adrenaline was pumping through our
veins and it was simply awesome.
In Universal Studios, there are 18 attractions
created or redesigned for Singapore. Dinosaurs,
lemurs, ogres, Egyptian mummies and more

my family and friends and I also love travelling. All
thanks to EdTerra Edventures for combining the two
things I love. I had never really gone on a school trip,
but I was happy to go to Singapore as I have stayed
there for seven years. I am a good public speaker
and love to explore new things. EdTerra Edventures
had not only organized a great trip, but also helped
us think beyond our capabilities and learn and grow.
I loved seeing so many colorful birds and the lovely
show at the Jurong Bird Park even though I was tired
by the end of the day. I loved the Human vs. Cylon
roller coaster at Universal Studios. I would like to
thank Karishma Ma’am and Sumedha Ma’am for
taking such good care of us.

and I still don’t remember the last time I was so tired.
But it was so much fun! We visited a lot of places
like Sentosa Island, Universal Studios, 10 malls
and Jurong Bird Park. I learned a lot from this trip
like being responsible for my own things, spending
money wisely on things and being good all the time. It
was amazing, and the best school trip ever and I am
very happy I went for it.

Singapore was the best trip ever because with friends
for company, every trip can become extra-ordinary.
We enjoyed ourselves a lot. The first day was a little
boring because of the long flight but afterwards it was
just fun. The two places I liked the most were Sentosa
Island and Universal Studios. We went to the beach
at Sentosa Island and saw a light and sound show. It
was awesome. We learned that discipline is a must in
life in order to have fun. It was the greatest adventure
of my life which I will never forget. My friends made
this trip especially memorable.

I love travelling. Travelling long distances in buses
with my music for company makes any trip really
special. Hi! I am Raushani Chopra and I never thought
that I would like a bird park and a wildlife park, but
it was a beautiful experience. Science Center made
even my least favorite subject seem interesting. The
beach was like the icing on the cake. I am definitely
going to convince my family to go to this breathtaking
place next year, so we can all enjoy what I have already
experienced. While I feel bad about coming back so
soon, I actually brought back a bagful of memories to
keep me happy.
I am Sanya Kapoor, a 15 year oldstudent living in New
Delhi. I study in Lotus Valley International School,
Noida. I enjoyed my journey across Singapore.
Simply put, I love to travel and shop and so Singapore
was perfect for me. I not only enjoyed myself but
also learned how to be responsible and take care of
money especially in a foreign country like Singapore.
Universal Studios was one of my favorite places. It
was quite magical. Even Science Center was worth a
visit. It made us learn new facts in a fun, interesting
way. Overall the trip was quite wonderful.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

I am glad that I went on this school trip to Singapore.
It was like a celebration of life in the company of good
friends. I had a great time and shopped a lot too. The
main streets were busy, colorful and filled with the
inviting aromas of street food. The city of Singapore
lights up after dark and the stunning skyline reflects
off the Singapore river. I went to Universal Studios,
Sentosa Island, Orchard Street and other exciting
places. I enjoyed all the amazing rides and clicked
some amazing pictures at Sentosa Island. During the
trip, I learnt to be more patient and outgoing.
Hey! I am Shadan Hasan and I study in Class 9
at Lotus Valley International School. I like playing
football and enjoy the thrill of video games. When I
first heard about the trip to Singapore being organized
by EdTerra Edventures, I told myself that I just had
to go along. From Delhi, we had a connecting flight
to Colombo. From there, we flew to Singapore on
Sri Lankan Airlines. Universal Studios was the best
experience for me and the Mummy ride there was
awesome. The Singapore Flyer and Sentosa Island
were also amazing. The Night Safari had many
rare animals. Orchard Street was the best place for
shopping. My overall impression of Singapore was
very magical.

Hey! I am Tushya Manga and I study in Class 10 at
Lotus Valley International School. My school had
organized a trip to Singapore. The day we arrived,
I was very tired and did not like the food there.
However, as the days passed I got to know about
their culture and way of life. The second day we went
to Orchard Street for shopping which was amazing. I
began to like their way of doing everything. The city
is very clean as they recycle, reduce and reuse. We
also visited Sentosa Island, Mustafa Center, Universal

again with my friends to Singapore to know more
about their culture because I found it very interesting.

Hello! My name is Yagn Ruparelia and I study in Class
10 at Lotus Valley International School. I love playing
football. This school trip to Singapore was unique
and wonderful. We learnt a lot of things. One of them
is to adjust to the environment, even if we don’t like
it. It also taught us values that we don’t learn daily.
The lifestyle there was totally different from India’s.
Singapore is so much healthier, greener and cleaner.
And if the government sets any rules in Singapore,
everyone follows it strictly no matter what happens.
We Indians have a lot to learn from the Singaporeans.

I am Rajeev Sharma, a senior Mathematics teacher
at Lotus Valley International School, Noida. I am not
an avid traveler and was really concerned about how
I would manage a rather large group of 30 odd Class
10 students on a trip to Singapore. To my surprise,
the students did a great job. They behaved in a very
mature manner and I felt that they can all someday
stay independently not only outside the comforts of
their homes but also across continents. I am used
to working with senior children and on this trip with
Class 10 students, I realized I could get along well
with them too. I particularly enjoyed the cable car ride
to Sentosa and the rides at Universal Studios.

Young Authors Program – Singapore Island State Metropolis

  • 1.
  • 2. Dr. Ruchi Seth FROM THE PRINCIPAL 'S DESK At Lotus Valley International School, Noida, we believe that there is no substitute for ‘Education through Action’ and that, exploring people, places, cultures, economic opportunities, and technological advancements through travel, complements and completes the educational experience. This philosophy matches our endeavor to create responsible and dynamic global leaders and global citizens by bringing the knowledge of the world to the classroom as well as encouraging students to go out into the world. These two methods are critical to create the three pillars of international success in the modern inter-connected world: empathy, understanding and international collaboration. In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to Singapore under a program titled, Singapore - Island State Metropolis. Our students visited beautiful locations within this great nation. To augment the broader program, we selected the Young Authors Program, which ensured students’ engagement and immersion. This Student Travel Chronicle is an outcome of this collaborative and exploratory module. It captures the entire journey in students’ own words and photographs. It even showcases their learning from the intense, five day interaction, with one of the
  • 3. world’s most enigmatic nations. I would also like to recognize the efforts of EdTerra Edventures; a Truly Educational School Trips company that is well aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals and developmental needs of students. We acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially their on-journey educators. Their professionalism made for an effortless, safe and enriching travel experience for our students and teachers. Lastly, we extend a heartfelt thanks to the students, who participated and engaged with the program enthusiastically. Our willing learners had an enriching experience, the enduring benefits of which they will reap all through their academic life and career. Each parent may feel proud of this highly demonstrable publication that will keep reminding their daughters and sons of their achievement and capabilities, all life long. Sincerely, Dr. Ruchi Seth Principal Lotus Valley International School
  • 4. MESSAGE FROM EDTERRA A journey to foreign soil is always replete with learning and excitement for any young and inquisitive mind. When the destination is as rich as Singapore, one can only imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students may absorb and construct learning out of the many differences and similarities that mark the cultures and people of these two great Asians nations. For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge through a meaningful encounter with a new culture, without diluting their fun and excitement or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program Development Team (PDT), which is comprised of both Indian and international experts. The PDT carefully designs culturally neutral tools that enable students to meaningfully observe, record and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed through a process that encourages teamwork, meaningful discussions, recording observations through digital media and finally synthesizing all this into a media product that showcases the ideas and learning of the students. Christine Massey
  • 5. This publication, ‘Singapore - Island State Metropolis’, is one such media product that captures the five day journey of learning of the gifted students of Lotus Valley International School, Noida. This beautiful book serves as a window into Singapore for those students, peers and parents who could not be a part of the journey. It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the students, credit for which is rightfully due to their parents and school. EdTerra Edventures would like to thank Lotus Valley International School, Noida,, for their efforts and support which made this journey of discovery possible, with a special mention of the Principal, Dr. Ruchi Seth, for guiding us throughout the process of finalizing and undertaking the journey. EdTerra would also like to thank the accompanying staff, for their sense of adventure and dynamism that the French call ‘joie de vivre’. Their energy made our jobs easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable journey for the students. We encourage you to read on and re-live the learning and adventures of these students through the words and photographs that follow. Sincerely, Christine Massey Senior Manager Program Development Team

  • 10. money independently and even bought presents for friends and family back home. Orchard Street has so many amazing malls and high-end stores selling almost everything anyone would like to buy. After the day’s shopping was done, the excitement continued when we went for the Night Safari. It was thrilling to know that we could see more than 2,500 animals from 350 species at the Night Safari. With enough excitement for one day to fire up our dreams, we finally retired for the day and went straight to our hotels. The next day we visited the Science Center. It has 850 exhibits spread over eight exhibition galleries. There, we witnessed interesting illusions along with a mirror maze which was very confusing. The observatory in the Science Center is one of the few observatories in the world located near the equator. After learning that science could be fun too, we went to Sentosa Island, the most awaited place. It had beautiful beaches and we managed to catch a beautiful sunset there. We had a great time in Singapore. The Merlion is the official mascot of Singapore. It is an imaginary creature which is half lion and half fish, combining a lion’s head with the body of a fish. The name is a combination of two words, ‘mer’ meaning the sea, and ‘lion’. The fish body represents Singapore’s origin as a fishing village. The lion head represents Singapore’s original name—Singapura—meaning ‘lion city’. Singapore has so many fantastic places to visit that it offers a completely unique experience. There is the Singapore Flyer which is the second largest Ferris wheel in the world, after the High Roller in Las Vegas. There is a difference of only 2.6 meters between the two Ferris wheels and the Singapore Flyer was an incredible experience. The Fountain of Wealth in Singapore is the largest fountain in the world. It is in one of Singapore’s largest shopping malls, Suntec City. We went to the Jurong Bird Park, which at 50 acres is Asia’s largest park and houses more than 5000 birds from 400 species. The bird show was also great fun. Perhaps the most enjoyable part of part of Singapore was Orchard Street, a 2.2 km stretch of fabulous shopping! On this trip, we learned to take on new responsibilities. We learnt to deal with AARUSHEE, GEETIKA, ISHITA, JASONBIR, PALAK, PRANET, SANYA OUR JOURNEY

At the High Flyers show, we saw the talents of several of our winged friends and realized how intelligent they are. We especially loved Birdz of Play, the bird-themed water playground, where we had a soaking good time under the giant tipping bucket, zipping across the flying fox and playing arcade games. A visit to the amazing bird sanctuary is guaranteed to sweep you off your feet. We clicked a lot of pictures and had a lot of fun. Everything was so colorful, bright and happy at Jurong Bird Park that it gave flight to our imagination too. We also learnt about the principle of 3R’s i.e., Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. These principles are the ones we should always follow in our lives in order to make this planet a beautiful place to live in. As dusk falls, the shutter opened for the Night Safari, welcoming you to the world of nocturnal creatures and their dimly lit homes. Opened in 1994 and located next to the Singapore Zoo, the Night Safari is the world’s first safari park for nocturnal animals. After a lovely breakfast on a beautiful sunny day, we were all set to visit the Jurong Bird Park. The Jurong Bird Park was established on 3rd January 1971. It is Asia’s largest park and home to more than 5000 birds across 400 species. The park offers visitors an immersive experience with large open concept displays that teach us many things. Planet earth is home to us humans and to animals too. Therefore, it is our responsibility to respect Mother Nature in all her glory, birds, animals, fish, insects, trees, water bodies and air. There are various star attractions across the park. Jurong Bird Park was a fantastic place to see exotic and unique species of birds. After observing the beautiful birds, we realized that nature is full of a variety of colors, and there are so many birds we had never seen before. There is a Flamingo Lake with hundreds of birds and a Pelican Cove close to it. With the world’s most complete collection of pelicans, the Pelican Cove houses spectacular species like the American white, African pink- backed and the Asian spot-billed pelican among many others. We were entertained by the majestic creatures of flight. We witnessed the heat of the AADITEE, ANANYA, ANANYA GIRDHAR, KRRISH, SAUMYA, SHIVIKA Wildlife Attractions

  • 26. On the Space Next show, we learnt about outer space, meteors and planets. It had many mirrors, rotatable and of different shapes…we enjoyed clicking pictures there. We played several games there and one in particular, taught us that sometimes the army (military) can use invisible rays to attack their enemies. We visited all the five halls. Others felt like the world of science is massive and there was so much more to discover. We realized that the Omni Theater is the only IMAX dome theater in Singapore, which is located in the Science Center itself. This visit to the Science Center inspired many of us to consider becoming astronomers or scientists in the future because everything there was so interesting. Besides interactive screen games such as the Cloud Maker, where you can create your own cloud, there is also a Sunshine Recorder that measures the duration of sunlight shone on your birthday. On this visit we discovered alot about climate change and its negative impacts, ways to reduce our carbon footprint, sustainability and recycling. We thank EdTerra for including Science Centre in our journey. On 5th June 2018, our entire tour group visited the Science Center. We all were really excited about starting our day with this and when we entered the Science Center, it looked really colorful and amazing. It has over 850 exhibits spread over eight exhibition galleries and gets over a million visitors a year. The Science Centre was inaugurated on 10th December 1977 and has not become dated even so many years later. A competition was organized by the Science Center Board in 1970 to find a suitable design for the center. Young architect Raymond Woo, who won the competition, said he had thought of Egypt’s pyramids to come up with its spaceship look. The design aimed at enticing young scientists and school children. We started exploring the space by first entering the mirror maze and we thoroughly enjoyed trying to find our way out. Then there were many fun activities which taught the practical applications of what we have been learning about mostly in text books. It was fun to visit the Phobia room, though we all got scared in the lift itself! ANYANT, AYUSH, MANYA, TANVI, TATHAGAT, VYOMIKA, YAGN HEMANT RUPARELIA Science center

  • 34. PRABHLEEN, RAUSHANI, TIA, TUSHYA, VASU, VISHAL towards the so-called calm waves. As we were busy posing and clicking pictures of each other, the calm waves turned bigger and surprised us all by submerging us in sea water. Some frowned while others laughed. However, the laughing faces too soon changed to frowns when our friends realized that they didn’t have dry clothes to change into. We could see ports and ships in the distance and it seemed as if Instagram-worthy pictures were being clicked every minute. After having a thoroughly relaxing time at the beach, we headed for the famous Light and Sound show, ‘The Wings of Time’. Nobody could have guessed what wonders were awaiting us at the normal looking stone structure. This award winning spectacular show is set against the majestic open sea and tells us a story about two friends who went through time with the help of a magical bird. The lights, water fountains, lasers, 3D effects and fireworks left us all in awe. Sentosa Island, even though small in size, was a supreme example of cleanliness and co-ordination. Its size is inconsequential because it packs quite a punch and has something for everyone! All of us were very excited and enthusiastic about our visit to Sentosa Island. Sentosa is the fourth largest island in Singapore, which has a total of 63 islands. The word ‘Sentosa’ means peace and tranquility in Malay. We were all looking forward to having a wonderful time there. We rode the cable cars to reach Sentosa and the view beneath was spectacular. When we looked down from the cable cars, we realized we were really high up and even some of the bravest amongst us were scared on the ride across. We saw our first view of the Merlion of Sentosa from the cable cars. We used the Sentosa Express to get to the Beach Station. It was truly a unique vehicle and even though we didn’t get place to sit before we reached our destination, it was worth it. We spent about an hour at the Sentosa Beach and it was great fun. In the blink of an eye (maybe even less), we had taken off our shoes and headed towards the beautiful waves. Our feet sinking in the sand gave us a unique feeling of relief and calmness. After shopping till we dropped the day before, our feet deserved this beachy heaven. Such was the attraction of the waves that even those of us who are generally scared of water jumped in and moved SENTOSA ISLAND

Each of the seven zones in the park is based on a blockbuster movie or a television show, featuring their own unique attractions, character appearances, dining and shopping areas. The food choices were varied, and it was all very tasty. Hollywood is the main entrance area of the park. It is a replica of the Hollywood Boulevard and even has the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Madagascar zone was the most thrilling. It had the biggest attraction, ‘Madagascar: A Crate Adventure’ which is a state-of-the-art river boat ride with animatronics, surround sound and projections. The voices of all the characters from the movie Madagascar spoke to us during the ride. There was also a zone called Ancient Egypt with attractions like pyramids and pharaoh’s tombs. It had some fun filled rides too. By the end of our day there, we had seen and met characters from Sesame Street, Shrek, Madagascar, Transformers and been transported to worlds we had only seen in movies. It was all like a dream come true. In short, Universal Studios was a magical and wonderful experience. Universal Studios, Singapore’s only movie theme park is located in Sentosa Island. We were all so excited on the morning that we were going to the park because most of us were looking forward to it since the trip began. When we walked through the gates of the park, we were all grinning from ear to ear. It combined entertainment, rides, shows, food and shopping options and we felt like one day would never be enough for us to try everything! The theme park features 24 attractions including a pair of dueling coasters that brush past one another in several near misses in their aerial combat. It is inspired by the Battlestar Galactica series. Thrill–seekers can choose between a waster where they are seated or other rides where you are suspended mid-air. Exciting loops, sudden turns, breathtaking drops and thrilling near-collisions will make you scream your heart out. The rides were thrilling, and somewhat scary too. People were screaming out of excitement and so were we. Adrenaline was pumping through our veins and it was simply awesome. In Universal Studios, there are 18 attractions created or redesigned for Singapore. • 70. Vyomika Saxena 71 Hey! I am Vyomika Saxena and I study in Class 10 at Lotus Valley International School, Noida. I like playing badminton. EdTerra Edventures, a well-known student travel company, planned a trip to Singapore for my school. When we landed there, I realized that India and Singapore are so different. Comparing both the countries, Singapore seems healthier, greener and cleaner. EdTerra Edventures did not just take us to see places but also made us learn about Singapore and its traditions. This was my first trip with EdTerra Edventures and I really loved it. I think this trip was not just full of adventure but also made us more independent and confident. I would like to thank EdTerra Edventures for all this. Singapore is an amazing country and I would like to visit it one more time. Hello! My name is Yagn Ruparelia and I study in Class 10 at Lotus Valley International School. I love playing football. This school trip to Singapore was unique and wonderful. We learnt a lot of things. One of them is to adjust to the environment, even if we don’t like it. It also taught us values that we don’t learn daily. The lifestyle there was totally different from India’s. Singapore is so much healthier, greener and cleaner. And if the government sets any rules in Singapore, everyone follows it strictly no matter what happens. We Indians have a lot to learn from the Singaporeans. Yagn Ruparelia ABOUT THE AUTHORS

  • 72. Rajeev Sharma 73 I am Rajeev Sharma, a senior Mathematics teacher at Lotus Valley International School, Noida. I am not an avid traveler and was really concerned about how I would manage a rather large group of 30 odd Class 10 students on a trip to Singapore. To my surprise, the students did a great job. They behaved in a very mature manner and I felt that they can all someday stay independently not only outside the comforts of their homes but also across continents. I am used to working with senior children and on this trip with Class 10 students, I realized I could get along well with them too. I particularly enjoyed the cable car ride to Sentosa and the rides at Universal Studios. ABOUT THE AUTHORS
