Transportation is the movement of people, animals, and goods from one location to another. It enables trade and is essential for civilization's development. There are several modes of transportation including air, rail, road, water, cable, pipeline, and space. Each mode has advantages and disadvantages, and the chosen mode depends on cost, capability, and route. Key modes discussed are human-powered, animal-powered, air, rail, road, and water transportation. In India, transportation remains an important part of the economy, with public transit being the primary means of travel for most. Traditional Indian means included palanquins, hand-pulled rickshaws, buses, and auto rickshaws.

TRANSPORT or TRANSPORTATION is the movement of people , animals and goods
from one location to another. Transport is the important because it enables trade between
person, which is essential for the development of civilization.
Mode of transport:- A Mode of transport is a solution that makes use of a particular
type of vehicle, infrastructure and operation. The modes of transport include Air, Rail,
Road, Water, Cable, Pipeline and Space. The transport of a person or cargo may involve
one mode or several of the modes , with the latter case being called intermodal or
multimodal transport. Each mode has its own advantages and disadvantage, and will be
chosen for a trip on the basis of cost, capability, and route.

Human-powered
A form of sustainable transportation is the transport of
people and/or goods using human muscle-power, in the form of
walking, running and swimming. Human-powered transport
remains popular for reasons of cost-saving, physical exercise and
environmentalism. It is sometimes the only type available,
especially in underdeveloped or inaccessible regions.
Animal-powered
Animal-powered transport is the use of working animals
for the movement of people and goods. Human may ride some of
the animals directly, use them as pack animals for carrying goods, or
harness them.
Air transport
The aircraft is the second fastest method of the transport,
after the rocket. Commercial Jets can reach up to 955 km/h.

Rail transport
Rail transport is where a train runs along a set of two parallel
steel rails, known as a railway or railroad. Rails are anchored
perpendicular to ties of timber to maintain a consistent distance
apart. Intercity trains are long-haul services connecting cities.
Modern high speed rail is capable of speeds up to 350km/h. but this
requires specially built track.
Road transport
A road is an identifiable route way or path between two or
more places. Road transport is the most economical for short
distance compare to rail way.
Water transport
Water transport is movement by means of a watercraft
such as a boat, ship and sailboat over a body of water, such as a sea,
ocean, canal, lake and river. One of the great advantages of water
transportation is that it does not require route construction. Water
transport is divided into sea route and inland waterways.

TRANSPORT IN INDIA
Transport is an important part of India’s economy. Since the
economic liberalization of the 1990s, infrastructure development
has progressed rapidly.
Public transport remains the primary mode of transport for most of
the population, and India’s public transport system are among the
most heavily used in the world. Indias rail network is the 4th longest
and most heavily used system in the world.
Traditional means
Palanquin:- palanquin also known as palkis ,were
one of the luxurious method used by the rich and
nobleman for travelling.
Hand-pulled rickshaw:- is still available in the
city of Kolkata wherein a person pulls the
rickshaw by hand. The government of west Bengal
proposed a ban on these rickshaws in 2005
describing them as inhuman.

Bus:- buses take over 90% of public transport in Indian
cities, and serve as a cheap and convenient mode of
transport of all classes of society.
Auto rickshaw:-an auto rickshaw is a three-wheeler
vehicles for hire that does not have doors and is generally
characterized by a small cabin for the driver in the front and
a seat for passenger in then in the rear.
