A Comparison of Fahrenheit 451 and Dover Beach
Fahrenheit 451 is a well written book that tells a story of a dream world and one man who wakes up
from that dream. Montag, the protagonist of the story, brings home a book of poetry one day and
begins to read the poem Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold to his wife and her guests. Many critics
think that Bradbury picked this poem because it paralleled life in his book. The poem Dover Beach
can be compared to Fahrenheit 451 because both pieces of writing talk about themes of true love,
fantasy and allover hopelessness. One of the ways Fahrenheit 451 can be related to Arnold s Dover
Beach is by connecting the absence of true love in both of them. Throughout the book, Montag slowly
realizes that he does not truly love his wife Mildred. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

and the pheonix can also be compared to this Sea of Faith. Arnold says Listen! you hear the grating

Outsourcing Is Becoming A Norm
Introduction airline outsourcing
Outsourcing is defined as the decision to buy goods and services from external sources rather than
producing them in house when internal provision is not justified in light of existing or anticipated
business condition (Leenders Nollett, 1984). It is a common solution to outsource non strategic
business functions in order to diminish distraction and focuses managerial attention on operations
within the scope of a company s core competencies. This practice is widely adopted by today s
enterprises around the world, including airlines, to control costs, improve efficiencies and increase
profitability (Feldman, 1992). However, although airlines are outsourcing their operations in order to
remain competitive in increasingly challenging business environments, such practice may not always
be successful and its theoretical justification may not have been fully explored (Rieple Helm, 2008).
This paper studies the potential boundaries to what airlines can or cannot outsource in their operations,
and whether financial considerations are paramount in such decisions.
The benefits of airline outsourcing
Outsourcing is becoming a norm and the next critical business process many enterprises are
addressing (Lindegaard, 2004). Today s competitive commercial environment has forced airlines to
explore methods to improve efficiency, and one of the common solutions is to outsource non strategic
business functions. Reservation and ticketing, customer service

Analysis Of Plato s Republic And The Letter Of The City...
Assignment 1
Within Plato s Republic, are various theories and ideas about justice and if it something that is just in
itself. This essay is meant to shine light on three of the key concepts (1) He has succeeded in
Thrasymachus s challenge, (2) being just provides more happiness than being unjust, and (3) the letter
of the city is irrelevant and does not help his case.
Thrasymachus s theory is that there is no benefit to being just and that benefit would only com to the
powerful. However, Socrates puts down this theory by proving that it is in every human s interest to be
just and that this is done in order to maintain a balanced soul and ultimate happiness. Also, he extends
his theory and connects the two by showing that the only way to reach balance within oneself is
through actions and desires that are impossible to be unjust
After disproving Thrasymachus, Socrates goes on and also states that being just does bring more
happiness. His proof is of this is help within his analysis of pleasure, and the soul, along with the
portal if the tyrant and that justice itself is a virtue. However, his discussion of the city and letters of
the city is deemed irrelevant since it is based on the ideal state and the ideal city, which is not the care
in reality and it does not matter what would happen in the ideal state since it cannot happen in reality.
As indicated above, Socrates very much disproves Thrasymachus s theory by showing it is in
everyone s interest to be

A Interview On The Sleep Disorder Institute ( Sdi )
Maor Mashiach Interview Write Up #1 Mrs. Trombetta BQ: What is sleepwalking? Language Arts 8
1/26/15 Introduction Gary Zammit Doctor 12 years in the Sleep Disorder Institute (SDI) in NYC. 5:30
6:00 January 28, 2015. Telephone interview Gary is a CEO and leading expert in sleep disorders. 1)
Are there any new technologies that can prevent or treat sleepwalking? I am not aware of any new
technologies that are available to prevent or treat sleepwalking. There are some different forms of
sleepwalking. Sleepwalking occurs in very deep sleep early in the night, and some of it is
disorganized. There are other forms of sleepwalking that are more organized and have a purpose. For
example, sleep eating is a disorder when people get out of bed and consume food during their sleep.
But for all of those various forms of sleepwalking, we do not have any new or novel technologies that
prevent or treat sleepwalking? 2) Is there a treatment for this disorder? Well sleepwalking is more
common in kids and as children age and get into their teen years and adulthood, it is more common
that sleepwalking goes away by itself. So it s kind of self limiting for most people but not everyone.
For kids and adults who sleepwalk the best thing to do is to gently guide the sleepwalker back into bed
and that is what takes care of it. Very often, they will stay asleep in bed and that is what takes care of
it. So you don t want to startle a sleepwalker and you don t want to shake

Peplau s Theory Of Interpersonal And Inductive Reasoning
Deductive Reasoning
Peplau utilized both deductive and inductive reasoning in her theory development work (Reed
Shearer, 2011). The deductive reasoning methods used were that Peplau integrated ideas from a
number of theories into her theory of interpersonal relations. Influenced by works of Sigmund Freud,
particularly his interest in unconscious motivation as well as Harry S. Sullivan s theory of
interpersonal relations all contributed to her development of the theory of interpersonal processes in
nursing, For example she refers to Sullivan s concepts of anxiety, self system and modes of
experiencing. (Peterson Bredow, 2017). She also incorporated into her theory some elements from
developmental psychology and learning theory (Armstrong Kelly, 1995) and some ideas of the
humanistic psychologists, Abraham Maslow, Rollo May and Carl Rogers. (Peterson Bredow, 2017).
For example, Peplau s systematic approach to establishment of nurse patient relationship and
therapeutic intervention are ideas that resonated with Martha Rogers theoretical assumptions about
human pattern and organization. (Armstrong Kelly, 1995).
Inductive Reasoning
Peplau defined her inductive approach in both general and specific terms. The inductive approach for
concept naming are described in several steps (a) observing behaviors for which no explanatory
concepts are available, (b) seeking to repeat those observations in others under similar conditions, (c)
noting regularities concerning the

The Causes Of Hurricane Katrina
At the time Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast of the United States on August 29, 2005; it had a
category 3 rating on the Saffir Simpson Hurricane scale, besides it maintained winds having a speed of
about 175 miles per hour that hard pressed across 400 miles. It brought about fatalities totaling to
1,833 and damages to private properties amounting to US dollars 1.2 million, besides payments
incurred by the National Flood Insurance amounting to US dollars 13 billion. The hurricane, affected
the states of Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida (CNN, 2017). During and in the
aftermath of the hurricane, DHS instituted the significant ground rules of the National Response Plan;
which the House Katrina Investigation Committee established to have been implemented late,
incompetently, or did not follow the instituted National Response Plan by the United States
Department of Homeland Security (United States House, 2006). The response and rescue mission
became a subject of investigation and also led to the resignation of the then director of Federal
Emergency Management Agency [FEMA], Michael Brown. Additionally, many other officials of the
federal government received criticism concerning their inappropriate responses. Furthermore, it
sparked a declaration of a state of emergency in certain states by the President. However, many
questions have been tabled concerning the role played by the private securities contracted by the

The Environmental Technology Program At S.a.i.t
The program that I have chosen to study is the Environmental technology program at S.A.I.T and this
is important not because I want to shut down all the dirty energy companies that work in the oil and
gas or coal sector but because I want to make them better and more sustainable so that the resources
will last longer. More people should think this way because the world needs these companies to
survive and it would be economic suicide to shut just oil and gas down, look at what is happening
right now and it is only a downturn. But if new technology is created and new methods are put into
place, then what is now seen as the worst form of energy, environmentally it can be seen as something
that is more sustainable with less of an environmental impact. This is what my program focuses on,
how to reduce waste and how to treat the waste that is created, so when it is either released back into
the environment or there is a spill or leak that it will not be as harmful. The environmental technology
program will help get more women into the science field which will then advance them in the working
world. This program will draw women in because it can be seen less threatening than say a petroleum
technology program where it is mostly men. But we are taught how to do things in the lab, out in the
field, and behind a desk and in many different types businesses such as agriculture, water treatment,
oil and gas, pulp and paper, and many others. It provides many options for women to get

Essay On The Day Of Life
From now on we must be more careful who we hire, the second one said. Emmanuel watched them
leave until they were out of sight. He threw down the rubbish he was cradling in his arms and kicked
at the pile of trash. His nostrils were filled with the stench of knee deep garbage, helping to sicken him
further. He wiped off the sweat he produced while they had their fun humiliating him. Walking out of
the heap, he lost his footing and stumbled a few times on some hidden slime. He went to the
paymaster, looking neither right nor left, dragging his shadow behind him; the weight of it lowered his
head and dropped his shoulders. Once inside the shack, it took no time to receive his meager pay and

such great humiliation. Hysteria reigned supreme among survivors who, in a second, were left with
the residue of a war. A tanker truck was on its side; its armor ripped from its frame to testify to the
force of a gas main explosion. The hole where they were drilling was a crater, like the ones on a
meteorite battered planet. The bodies of those he labored with lie everywhere. Many welders hung
upside down from their girders swaying to and fro from the blast; half their clothes burned away to
reveal flesh charred and disfigured. Most men on the ground groaned in the agony expected to be
found in hell. He moved to the ones who screamed out the loudest. The first man he approached was
familiar, even far away. It was the Mexican, lying in a pool of mud, his upper torso scalded by the
tidal wave of flames. His body wrenched in the mud pool, yet he received no relief from the third
degree burns. Charred flesh dangled in shreds likened to a rotten piece of fabric long discarded. His
screams matched those others who shared in a foretaste of suffering promised in eternal damnation.

description of the truck. Unfortunately, her body was found 4 days later with her throat cut. She had

Radio stations in the Dallas area were the first to answer that outcry. They teamed up with local law

Justice Penny White of Tennessee, lost her retention...
Justice Penny White of Tennessee, lost her retention election in 1996 after the Tennessee Conservative
Union campaigned against her, saying she was soft on crime and capital punishment. A retention
election is beneficial because it eliminates Justices that feel pity or emotion towards cases and/or
people. Justice White for example ordered a new death sentence hearing for the case of State v. Odom
and was knocked off the bench in a retention election because of her decision. This retention election
process is beneficial because it allows citizens to retain judges who are doing significantly. It also
allows us as citizens to vote off Judges who we think are doing poorly or do not represent us as a
whole. Justice Penny White ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The implications of a governor targeting this Justice were because she was soft on punishment. The
Republican governor as well as the senators opposed her ( Vile 2003 ). Justice White said that the
Chief Justice wanted to fill her spot with someone in his party (Denver Bar Association). All the signs
of putting someone on death row were there but she preferred not too affirm the death penalty that was
imposed in accordance with the law. In this case of State V. Odom (Vile 2003), the people did not like
the decision in which Justice White made so she lost in a hotly contest in which voted turnout was a
negligible 55 percent. Justice Penny White was not the person the citizen of Tennessee wanted
representing them, when it was time for retention election over half ( 55% ) of the citizen voted her
off. The reason there is penalty for committing a crime is to deter people from committing the same
act again. If you don t be hard on crime then the crime rate will continue to be on the rise . The citizen
wanted someone to represent on behalf of themselves and Justice Penny White was not that person.

The Social Political, Economic And Cultural Impact Of The...
The apartheid policy describes the system of racial discrimination and white political domination
adopted by the South African National Party after its rise to power. This essay will critically examine
the historical significance of the Nationalist Party s influence during its governance from 1948 to
1994. Additionally, this paper will analyse the social, political, economic and cultural impact of the
Nationalist apartheid legislation. Furthermore, it will examine several major resistance campaigns and
significant historical figures that gave rise to the cessation of the apartheid legislation under new
democratic rule, including the effects of the Sharpeville Massacre in 1960 and the transformative force
of anti apartheid activist Nelson Mandela.
Since the colonisation of South Africa by the Dutch in the 17th, century, the consolidation of the
influence of the whites remained a prominent element of Afrikaner culture until its formal cessation in
1994 (United States Department of State nd). The election of the purified National Party in 1948
distinguished the enforcement of aggressive policies in an effort to maintain white supremacy in South
Africa. This system of institutionalised racial segregation was labelled apartheid , an Afrikaans word
meaning the state of being apart (BlackPast nd). The apartheid system created a society of enormous
oppression for non white South Africans during the Nationalist Party s era of sovereignty.

The Treaty of Paris was signed on February 10, 1763. This treaty temporarily concluded hostilities

Ambition In Julius Caesar
The nature of the human mind is that if one doesn t like something, fix it. That statement applies to
everyday life, in finances, career choices, and relationships. The delicate relationship between a ruler
and his people balances on thin ice; be a leader and take charge, take the glory and power given and
run. Do not, however, exploit this glory and power to the point of upsetting the people. Julius Caesar,
like many rulers before and after him, worked tirelessly to strike this balance. However, his
assassination proved that those attempts were futile. Caesar was murdered by his own people, and
furthermore, his friends, for reasons really unknown to history. However, through pieces written
sometimes years later by others, historians are able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cicero in his piece Roman History says, Behold, here you have a man who was ambitious to be kind
of the Roman People and master of the whole world; and he achieved it! The man who maintains that
such an ambition is morally right is a madman; for he justifies the destruction of law and liberty and
thinks their hideous and detestable suppression glorious. Cicero here is simply explaining that the
power Caesar holds, and his wish to have power over everybody, is morally incorrect. His ways of
handling the law and ruling makes him a madman for all he has done. He is inserting the idea here that
Caesar s assassins had in mind this hunger for power Caesar held as a possible reason for his demise.
Once faced with the powers of a ruler, he is simply after more, leading him to argue that something
about that want of power is not right of a man. This argument is again attempted to be explained by
Nicolaus of Damascus in Life of Augustsus. In this, Nicolaus touches on many points of possible
contention, including the search for power Caesar had. He did not share his glory with others who
deserved it, taking all of the power that resulted for himself. Nicolaus eloquently ties up his point in
the statement, When he became exalted through many notable victories (which was fair enough) and
began to think himself superhuman the common people worshipped him, but he began to be
obnoxious to the optimates and to those who were trying to obtain a share in the government. The
point is made here that as Caesar grew in the ranks ad gained more power of the people, he became
less inclined to share this power with those attempting to also move up in government. Once given a
good deal of power, Caesar let that get to his head and affect how he lead his people, as

Cyber Criminals Are Faceless And Cybercrimes
Cyber criminals are faceless and cybercrimes are now easier and safer for criminals to troll the
internet for unsuspected victims without leaving the comfort of their own home. According to a Police
Executive Research Forum report (PERF, 2014), local law enforcement are struggling with responses
to cybercrimes; Chief Charles McClelland of the Houston police department told PERF, unfortunately,
we haven t properly prepared our officers to handle cybercrime calls (p.20). Cybercrimes are not
limited to credit card frauds, scams, human trafficking, or cyber bullying, but also involves attacks on
national infrastructures to terrorism plots on a larger scale. The post 911 investigation revealed that the
internet played a key role in the attacks, from planning to coordinating to executing the cowardice
acts. As a law enforcement organization, we are facing a new breed of criminals criminals with no
faces or names and our task is to bring them to justice. There is a lack of knowledge in the cyber
world, which the police culture does not fully comprehend. In order to level the playing field, we must
improve IT knowledge through education, commit funding to promulgate cybercrimes units, and
collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to create a team of teams. The internet is largely
unregulated, therefore, those who are most familiar with it will dominate the virtual world. There is

Emotion Related Cultural Value With Regulation Strategies...
1. One of the unique features of human is the ability to regulate and adjust emotions on particular
situational demands. What happen when we get angry but cannot express it? Or when we feel upset
but have to try to be fine? Under some circumstances like these examples, we regulate our emotions.
Emotion regulation(ER) refers to the capacity to control and manage one s emotional reaction in order
to achieve a goal directed outcome. We know coping, reappraisal, or suppression as some typical
tactics of managing emotions, but how these types of regulation strategies differ among individuals,
and how cultural values can be related to the preference of use of different strategies? This study will
provide a general idea beyond the basic understanding of ER by comparing individual difference on
emotion related cultural value with regulation strategies.
This study focuses on emotion related values based on the Hofstede model of six dimensions of
national cultures (power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism/collectivism,
masculinity/femininity, long/short term orientation, and indulgence/restraint), by only focusing on
long/short term orientation and uncertainty avoidance as emotion related cultural values. Short/long
term orientation refers to the perspective of whether or not looking at the future. Short term orientated
people tend to emphasize on the current time and believe important events in life occur in the past or
now. They also tend to attribute both success and

The Impact Of Public Relations On The Public Bureau
There are various publications that trace the emergence of public relations to the Public Bureau which
was established in 1900. There are however various scholars such as Bernays (2013) who trace the
history of public relations to early forms of communication management and public influence in early
civilization such as the movement that was aimed at abolishing slavery in England and the settling of
the New World. This treatise will carry out a meticulous analysis on a concrete overview of the

During the world wars, there was a plethora of propaganda that was issued by the Germany, the
United Kingdom and the United States which rallied for domestic support and to repel away enemies
which led to more efforts on publicity which triggered the emergence of public relations in the
commercial sector. In the United States, there are those who opine that public relations in the country
was started by Edward Bernays and Ivy Lee who spread it in the country before spreading to other
countries. There are in fact those who credit the Americans with the spread of PR to Europe through
the Marshall plan that was formed after the creation of the subsidiaries in Europe.
The professional development era is thought to have begun during the second half of the twentieth
century (Olasky, 2013). This is because of the fact that this is when various international PR agencies,
PR news magazines and academic principles were established. Press release services and social media
press releases were established in early 2000.

The Battle Of Milne Bay
During World War Two, Australian involvement in battles such as Milne Bay, in the Pacific theatre
during 1942, contributed significantly to the course of the War. intro The Battle of Milne Bay was
fought from August 25 to September 7 and was one of the most vital land battles protecting the
Australian land mass from the Japanese that Australians have ever conducted. Milne Bay is located on
the eastern tail of New Guinea. In May 1942, this area became of interest to senior Allied officers,
when General Douglas MacArthur made the decision to establish an airbase here, so that aircraft could
control over the eastern seaward approaches. It was in July 1942, that development of the first airstrips
began at Milne Bay. Australian infantry and American engineers were sent to begin clearing land for
the airstrips and the base here would support them. During the following weeks, more ships with men
arrived, also bringing more supplies and equipment for base development. The objective of the Allies
was to maintain these land positions from Japanese hold as quoted; Much like the Japanese base at
Sanananda a large proportion of the Allies at Milne Bay were devoted to non combat tasks; building,

New Liberalism Essay
New Liberalism
Old liberalism, otherwise know as classical or Gladstonian liberalism was centred around the
fundamental rights of the individual. It was an ideology that the state should have little to no
intervention in people s lives and in the economy. It relied heavily upon the notion of laissez faire, and
the Victorian mindset of self help. Thrift was one of these ideas. It was the theory that any family
could support itself if that income was managed wisely, and a pension could be saved for. The key
pillars of old liberalism was low taxes and low state intervention. This was because they believed that
the people should be able to spend their money as they wised, and not be forced to send it ... Show

Towards the end of the century this was coming into question. Other European nations were
industrialising and eating into Britain s profits. There was a thought among the British public that as
long as the economy was growing, eventually prosperity would filter down to the lower classes. But as
the economy began to shrink, according to Lee it eroded the attractions of industrial growth as a
panacea for society s ills. Victorian notions were rapidly becoming out of date and viewed as wrong,
not only economically, but morally as well. In London and York, studies showed that a third of people
lived in poverty as a direct result of simply not having a large enough income to cover their basic
needs, while thousands more lived in poverty due to inadequate education to manage there finances.
Laissez faire was being proven to be out dated in Birmingham where the conservative mayor Joseph
Chamberlain had shown that local government taking control for and organised public amenities and
facilities could benefit the community as a whole. Not only did this destroy laissez faire, but also it
was an attack by the Tories on Liberal values. In the 1880 s socialism was starting to gain ground as
the lower classes saw that their situation was not increases, and at the

Dante s Journey Through Hell, Purgatory, And Heaven
Around 1314, Dante Alighieri completed the Inferno, the first section of what would make up The
Divine Comedy, a collection of three poems reflecting Dante s imaginative journey through Hell,
Purgatory, and Heaven. In these poems, Dante the poet describes the pilgrimage that Dante the pilgrim
must complete to attain salvation. With the Roman poet Virgil as his guide, Dante the pilgrim must
purge himself of his own sinful nature, which can only be achieved by observing and learning from
those that have landed themselves in either Hell, Purgatory, or Heaven. Described in Inferno, his
excursion begins in Hell where Dante learns about the stories and the sufferings of many sinners. As
Dante the pilgrim progresses through Hell it is clear that he assumes different personas. In some
instances, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as an empathetic man who pities the sinners while on other
occasions, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as a callous and indignant being in regard to the sinners.
While Dante the pilgrim is depicted in these two completely different ways, it is the insensitive
portrayal that more precisely depicts Dante the pilgrim, as that is his true identity when he leaves Hell.
His journey affected him so greatly that by the end of his pilgrimage, Dante the pilgrim has
transformed from a compassionate man into an impervious and even cruel individual.
When Dante enters the second circle of Hell, where the licentious sinners suffer, Dante meets a
woman named Francesca and

Japanese American Discrimination
The United States made drastic decisions after the attack of Americans, Pacific Fleet Pearl Harbor.
The Japanese American discrimination, increase went U.S. people told about the Oahu event.
Moreover, the United States made drastic decisions relocating those citizens and non citizen Japanese
individuals living on U.S. soil in a concentration camp on the west coast living behind the belongings.
President Roosevelt signed executive order 9066 considering national security consequences of the
attack on 7 December 1941. About 120,000 Japanese were moved to concentration camps heavy
guarded by U.S. military with strict restrictions. Also, some of the Japanese American family was

The Looking Glass Wars Analysis
In The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor the story of Alice in Wonderland is told from the
opposite viewpoint. In this story Alyss Heart is the princess of Wonderland, and not a little girl from
London. Alyss is forced to leave her homeland when both of her parents are killed by her evil Aunt
Redd. When Alyss finds herself alone in England and must find her way back to Wonderland to defeat
her evil Aunt. By switching storylines, Beddor shows significant themes that are developed throughout
the story. For example, the theme violence or vengeance is show at times such as Redd and
Genevieve, Dodge , and when Alyss faces her evil Aunt Redd. One example of this theme is the book
is the battle between Redd and Queen Genevieve. At the beginning of the story soon after learning the
the King has been killed, the queendom is attacked by a very vengeful, very violent Redd. Redd s

When Dodge is first introduced to the reader early on in the book, he seems like a normal ten year old
boy except for the fact that he is a palace guardsman. After the attack on Heart Palace, Dodge s father
is killed by Redd s top assassin, called The Cat . During Redd s reign as Queen of Wonderland, Dodge
begins to change. The reader will start to notice this when they hear that, Among the Alyssians, one
particular soldier was making a name for himself with his growing military prowess and suicidal
bravery. (136) . Throughout the story the main thought in Dodge s head is that he must get revenge on
The Cat for his father s death. Dodge partially gets revenge at the end of the story when, Dodge used
the paws as targets; with his sword in one hand and the knuckle blade on the other, he stabbed them
both simultaneously, and before The Cat could retreat, he sunk his sword deep and hard through the
beast s rib cage. While this did kill The Cat once, he still had another life and eventually escapes

Life Insurance Beneficies
Typically, people who need to provide for others after death will purchase a life insurance policy.
Although there are many types of life insurance policies, the common thread between them are
beneficiary designations. In simple terms, once the policy holder perishes, the listed beneficiary will
receive the proceeds from the policy. However, listing beneficiaries on a life insurance policy needs
careful attention for reasons mentioned in the article List Your Beneficiaries Wisely in Your Estate
Plan. Otherwise, after death, unintended consequences may occur. So, to avoid unintended
consequences, properly listing beneficiaries on a life insurance policy is essential.

The act allows the custodian to manage the money in the child s best interest until the child becomes
of age. In most states, the age is 21. Also, insurance companies in most states recognize the UTMA
except for South Carolina. If using this option, list the approved custodian as the beneficiary to the life
insurance policy.
2) Setup a trust for the children and name a trusted adult as the trustee. In the trust, list the children as
the beneficiaries. To use this option, list the trust as the beneficiary of the life insurance policy. This
will allow the trustee to manage the proceeds for the children s benefit.
Finally, to avoid bureaucratic methods, simply list a trustworthy adult as beneficiary to the life
insurance policy, if possible. Typically, when estate planning for minor children, people usually name
a guardian. In this scenario, list the guardian as the beneficiary to the life insurance policy. If you are
entrusting your children s life to this person, then you should trust that this person will use the
proceeds in the children s best interest.

Cardiac Output ( Co )
Cardiac Output (CO) is defined as the volume of blood pumped out by the heart, specifically by the
left and right ventricle, per unit time (usually in 1 minute). It is the product of Stroke Volume (SV) and
Heart Rate (HR) [1].
CO = SV x HR
Jessica s pre exercise cardiac output can therefore be calculated as 70ml x 70bpm = 4900ml/min or
4.9L/min, whilst her post exercise cardiac output is 110ml x 130bpm = 14.3L/min. In an adult at rest,
the average cardiac output is 4.9L/min for a human female and 5.6L/min for a male [2]. Throughout
normal life, however, cardiac output can vary continuously depending on the metabolic demands of
the body. As seen with Jessica, cardiac output may be raised during exercise, and may also be reduced,
for example in sleep [3].
Stroke volume is the amount of blood pumped out from a ventricle in one heartbeat, and is dependent
on several factors such as heart size, contraction duration, contractility, preload, and afterload [1].
Stroke volume can be calculated as the difference between the volume of blood in the ventricle just
before a heartbeat (end diastolic volume; EDV) and the volume following contraction (end systolic
volume; ESV) [4].
SV = EDV ESV
Average stroke volume is around 70ml (in a healthy 70kg man; with approximately 120ml and 50ml
measurements for EDV and ESV, respectively) [4]. Jessica s stroke volume is also 70ml, which
increases (as expected) to 110ml following exercise, achieved by a drop in ESV due to a more
complete emptying

Nietzsche s Iliad As A Demonstration Of A Single Nature...
Nietzsche interprets Iliad as a demonstration of a single nature of power among the Greeks that leads
to the brutal war. Simone Weil disagrees with Nietzsche and believes Iliad to be a representation of
two forces, might and courtesy, which she calls gravity and grace (Simone Weil Handout, passage # 2,
pg 2). Nietzsche considers only one perspective of the Iliad, the cruelty of power, in contrast, Weil
examines both the good and the brutality shown in Homer s epic. Weil thinks of Homer s epic to be
exhibiting the misery of the war, along with some sparks of grace (IC 48). Overall, Nietzsche thinks of
Homer s Iliad only to be a celebration of competition derived by the will to power, whereas Weil
considers Iliad as not just a representation of the rule by might, but also showing moments of courtesy
through the savagery of war (NR 355).
Nietzsche argues that Iliad is all about the constant battle of strife driven by the will to power in life.
As he says ...life simply is the will to power (NR 355). Here, Nietzsche is saying that everyone in Iliad
takes action in order to gain honor and power. For example, when Agamemnon returns his prize
Chryseis, he says Achilles to give him his prize, Briseis because it would be a dishonor for him to be
without a prize (SHI 5). This starts a conflict between the two, as Achilles says that it s better for him
to return home, than being unhonored by giving up his prize (SHI 6). Nietzsche further mentions that

Kipling s Feelings About The Government
Kipling in his writing shows several hints about how he feels about the government; the first obvious
notice is this, The politics of Loaferdom that sees things from the underside where the lath and plaster
is not smoothed off. He s hinting at the connotation that there are imperfections within the system that
some can see. Kiplings narrative not only shows a personal opinion, but also what some people would
contradict him with. Take Peachey and Dravot for instance, who one not only said in a connotative
way that he believes in is King, I greatly fear that my King is dead, and if I want a crown I must go
and hunt it for myself. This character within the story showed a persona of some people and how they

This is a desperate hyperbole of a sentence, to threaten the possibility of someone being cut to pieces,

Trudging back to what the opinion is on different classes, later in the story the main character

Organizational Decentralization
I. Organizational Decentralization
Rationale of Decentralization The term decentralization is often used in business environments and
can be defined as the organizational severance and division of power, capital, and technical procedures
and control into multiple units of the business.1 Decentralized corporations make it possible for
managers to control without ownership. 4 In decentralized organizations, the breakdown is that the
president of each unit of a business is on his or her own management wise. The president of each unit
is provided a board of directors and a financial budget from the parent company, but is allowed to run
the company with no hindrance as long as financial goals are met. 2 Decentralization is seen as an
issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And even though each unit is run independently, headquarters must provide an overall main financial
plan for units to follow. The financial plan should include guidelines on such things as suitable profit
margin and return on investment obligations. It is also up to headquarters to maintain adequate watch
over each unit to ensure that they are performing freely within reasonability. It is important that unit
action is free of detriment to the company s reputation as a whole. 2
There should also be a certain degree of expert functions performed by a competent staff. It would
benefit a company more to have organizational units that focused on specific functions, instead of
having each units employees and equipment perform multiple tasks. The reason is due to cost; it can
become expensive to re equip a machine to shift from performing one function to performing
another.1
Measuring Performance In order for a decentralized organization to be successful, it must be
accommodating and led by proposals, values, and objectives that are not only steady but are relevant
to long term practice. 1 According to a study done by McKinsey and Co. a successful decentralized
company is simple in form and low on staff. It has continued contact with past clients and emphasizes
skills and abilities that are best known. When emphasizing its best skills, a successful unit focuses on

The Is Not A Good Thing
Wouldn t it be nice to be in complete bliss every day of your life? That seems like a stupid question to
ask; of course your first response would be, duh . Everyone wants happiness in their life, that is why
most of our decisions are based on whether it will make us happy or not. This is where we
underestimate the power of going through something sad or difficult. Although nobody searches for
sadness, it is vital that we experience some sort of pain in our lives to balance the happy times, since
there are risks of pursuing extreme happiness. Sometimes we can have too much happiness,
experience happiness at the wrong time, become sad when we are looking for happiness, or even seek
the wrong kind of happiness. While you may argue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having too much happiness could end up giving you the same effect as a drug; the more you have, the
more you want. Being too happy consumes us, and could also come when we do not need it.
When things go wrong, we need to feel bad, it only makes sense. Feeling happy when something bad
happens won t teach you anything. If you lost your job, but you re happy you lost it, then you ll never
learn the importance of a job. We also become more gullible when we re happy. This may cause you to
miss warning signs that you need to see, causing you to trust someone more than you should. Fear
ignites the fight or flight response. So, being too happy to acknowledge this can create many
problems. For example, if I am mindlessly walking my dog down the sidewalk, headphones in,
thinking of how excited I am for the weekend, I may not notice the sketchy car that is driving up
behind me. Being happy during the wrong times could make you overlook something important, and
could even make you worse off than you were before.
I ve learned in philosophy that the more you search for happiness, the less likely you will be to find it.
Epicureans believe that if you focus on what you are doing, rather than how you feel, then pleasure
will come. One reason for this may be because you are constantly searching in other places, so you
miss what is right in front of you. For me, when I came to college I was so

Similarities And Differences Between The New England And...
During the colonial era, England founded the Thirteen colonies. The New england colonial region was
established for religious freedom. The Southern colonial region settled to find gold and earn profits.
There were many differences and similarities in New England and the Southern geography, economy,
and culture. There are similarities and differences of the geography of New England and Southern
colonies. The South had mild, rainy winters and long hot humid summers. This means, the South could
grow many crops. According to A Virginia Plantation, the south had lots of plantations with tobacco
and corn (Doc 6). However, New England had long cold winters and a short growing season. This
means New England did not grow as many crops as the South. Instead, many colonists had small
farms for their family or community. Therefore, the differences in geography helped to shape the
development of the New England and Southern regions. There were similarities and differences in the
economy of New england and the Southern colonies. New England colonies had small farms,
lumberjacks, and shipbuilders. The colonies were near the Atlantic Ocean to help with their jobs. The
coast helped the colonists trade. New England did not have slaves instead they used indentured
servants to help with labor. These servants in a passage to the New World and after about 7 years they
are given land and freedom. On the other hand, to make money in the South they would sell slaves to
make a profit. The slaves did most of the work on their plantations. The slaves would do all of the
work so their owners could make the money from the crops they grew. When they were traveling on
the ship to be sold the conditions were terrible. The ship was very crowded and many of the slaves got
sick. According to The Slave Flyer it states that they made sure the slaves didn t have smallpox
because they would be able to sell them for more money if they seemed to be in good condition. They
didn t care if they were not healthy they just wanted them to look healthy (Doc 8). Many people came

Qantas Market Segmentation
The airline industry has long attempted to segment the air travel market in order to effectively target
its constituents. The classic airline model consists of First Class, Business Class and Economy, and the
demographics that make up the classes have both similarities and differences to the other classes. For
instance there may be similarities between business class travellers on a particular flight, but they will
not all be travelling for the same reason. An almost universal characteristic of air travel is that
customers do not fly for the sake of flying; the destination is the important element and the travel is a
by product, a means to an end that involves the necessity of an aircraft that gets the customer from
point A to point B. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently Qantas has partnered up with Emirates in an effort to channel Europe bound travellers
through Dubai International Airport in a mutually beneficially arrangement, an example of business to
business geographic segmentation marketing. Qantas encourages tourism by broadcasting the same
television and print advertisement to both international and domestic customers with iconic images of
Australia. This is a marketing strategy that serves multiple purposes, it stimulates Australian tourism
abroad while firmly associating Australia with Qantas and also encourages brand loyalty from
Australians who wish to support their country. Because of the large variety of airlines both
internationally and domestically, Qantas has marketed themselves towards service; they are the only

The demographic characteristics of customers can be broken down by the class they choose to fly.
First Class is chiefly attracting high income earners, who are concerned with a high level of service
and enjoy an air of exclusivity. These are knows as comfort seekers and they can include business
magnates, federal politicians, sporting stars and a list celebrities. The First Class market is highly
concentrated; less than 3% of passengers will choose to fly First Class but those customers make up
close to 30% in revenue for the airline (Keen and Strand 2007). Because the focus is on service and

War, but in that short amount of time the tax raised about $14.1 million (Jacobson, Raub, Johnson,
2007).
In the early 20th century, after worldwide conflict cut into trade tariffs, Congress turned to another
revenue source: The Revenue Act of 1916. This Act introduced the income tax system used today and
also included an estate tax with similar features of today s system. Residents received an exemption of
$50,000 with tax rates starting at one percent and climbing to 10 percent on estates over $5 million
(Jacobson, Raub, Johnson, 2007). As the US entered World War I in 1917, estate taxes were increased.
Unlike the previous Acts, the Act of 1916 was not repealed after the war ended, but instead the laws
surrounding the estate tax framework shifted immensely over the next century.
History of the Unlimited Marital Deduction
At this point in history no provision for a marital deduction had been made and as a result, residents of
community property states were at an advantage over residents of common law states. In community
property states, marital estates were split in half to create a low overall tax burden. It was not until
1948 that the estate tax code was amended to reduce these tax

Melancholia In Orestes Research Paper
Ancient Greece, depression was referred to as melancholia. Melancholia was portrayed in Orestes,
______. In a vase from 400 BC, Orestes is drawn having a ceremony to get rid of vengeful spirits that
would not leave him alone since his mother was killed. In the book Orestes by Euripides, Orestes is
depicted as a helpless, exhausted and motivationless person who barely ever wanted to eat but was
constantly crying and sleeping. Jason the Argonaut is another Greek work that has to do with
melancholia. Jason is described as a hero who is always in action trying to resolve problems.
However, he becomes a helpless and bad tempered person when his ship is wrecked on the coast of
Libya. In the 4th century BC however, melancholia began to be viewed as an illness in Greek
scientific work. For example, the physician Hippocrates wrote that melancholia was a depressive
temperament that resulted when bodily humors or fluids were not balanced. According to Hippocrates,

Noblemen, as well as other individuals, began to share their ideas more and would also describe
themselves with somewhat of a melancholic temperament in order to feel empowered. For example, in
the 15th century, Robert Burton wrote The Anatomy of Melancholy in which he analyzed the history,
causes and treatments of melancholia, while also making sure it was seen as a blessing. Soon,
melancholia was viewed as a fashionable trend in the culture. Plays, such as Shakespeare s Hamlet,
were now including characters that matched the description of a depressed

Us Economy Strengths And Weaknesses
Ever since the beginning of the United States of America, there has been a network of producers,
distributors, and buyers of many different services and products. This network of people makes up the
United States economy. Every economy is different all around the world and each has its own unique
strengths and weaknesses according to the types of markets inside that economy. There are a
numerous amount ways that an economy can grow and develop. One example of this is international
trade. International trade is a huge part of the current advancement in the United States economy in
three major ways: cultural improvement, monetary maturity, and professional betterment.
Not every nation has everything that nation needs or wants such as food or resources. Specialization of
products throughout the world is a very real tactic used by many nations and usually different places
in the world will specialize in different products because of each location s distinctive available
resources. International trade opens up new ways to procure products that you aren t able to obtain
through local means. The figure above shows the total world exported goods and how much money
was traded between nations in the year 2014. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without international trade, a nation will not be able to get more wealthy because no money is coming
in, but the nation is also not becoming poorer because no money is leaving the nation. This
individualistic nature may seem like a good idea at the time because the nation will not get poorer, but
it cuts of potential opportunities to mature that nation s economy and create wealth. In conclusion,
international trade is a very important aspect of the global economy along with individual nation
economies , such as the United States economy, supporting the gain of wealth, increasing the
partnership between nation states, and aiding the growth of trade supporting jobs in that

Experimental Theory, State Of The Art, And Economics
The Fischer Tropsch (FT) process is a part of the larger Gas to Liquids technology. The purpose of the
FT process is to convert syngas, which is a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, to liquid
hydrocarbon fuels. Syngas for FT can be coal, natural gas, or biomass derived, which opens several
pathways for how FT can be industrialized. Since its creation, the FT process has continuously been
researched and commercialized, but it remains an unpopular pathway to obtain liquid fuels. Ongoing
development of the process is primarily due to the value and promise of the FT products. This paper
will give an overview of the FT process with a focus on describing the process, experimental theory,
state of the art, and economics.
2. Process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[1]
2.1 Reactions and Products
The FT process or FT synthesis is a set of catalytic processes for converting synthesis gas (syngas,
carbon monoxide hydrogen and/or other gases mixture) into liquid hydrocarbons. [2]
The reactions in the FT process are generally described as the following:
Alkanes: (2n + 1)H2 + nCO โ‡’ CnH2n+2 + nH2O (1)
Alkenes: 2nH2 + nCO โ‡’ CnH2n + nH2O (2)
Oxygenates: 2nH2 + nCO โ‡’ CnH2n + 2O + (n 1)H2O (3)
Water Gas Shift: CO + H2O โ‡” CO2 + H2 (4)
The reaction stated before can be achieved with the help provided by the catalysts. The catalysts that
can be used in this process are varied. The preferred catalysts are the metals that have electron
configuration of d7 (although not required) [4]. These includes (1) Fe (Iron) = [Ar] 3d6 4s2, (2) Co
(Cobalt) = [Ar] 3d7 4s2, (3) Ni (Nickel) = [Ar] 4s2 3d8, (4) Mo (Molybdenum) = [Kr] 4d5 5s1, (5) Ru
(Ruthenium) = [Kr] 4d7 5s1. (6) Rh (Rhodium) = [Kr] 4d8 5s1, (7) W (Tungsten) = [Xe] 4f14 5d4
6s2, (8) Other platinum group noble metals. [5]
In real life, catalysts considered for FT synthesis are based on transition metals of iron, cobalt, nickel
and ruthenium. Among these catalysts, it is generally known that nickel (Ni) tends to promote methane
formation, as in a methanation process; thus generally it is not desirable. Iron (Fe) is relatively low
cost and has a higher water gas shift activity, and is therefore more suitable for a lower
hydrogen/carbon monoxide ratio (H2/CO) syngas

  • 2. A Comparison of Fahrenheit 451 and Dover Beach Fahrenheit 451 is a well written book that tells a story of a dream world and one man who wakes up from that dream. Montag, the protagonist of the story, brings home a book of poetry one day and begins to read the poem Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold to his wife and her guests. Many critics think that Bradbury picked this poem because it paralleled life in his book. The poem Dover Beach can be compared to Fahrenheit 451 because both pieces of writing talk about themes of true love, fantasy and allover hopelessness. One of the ways Fahrenheit 451 can be related to Arnold s Dover Beach is by connecting the absence of true love in both of them. Throughout the book, Montag slowly realizes that he does not truly love his wife Mildred. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without them, the world is empty of true Faith. • 3. Outsourcing Is Becoming A Norm Introduction airline outsourcing Outsourcing is defined as the decision to buy goods and services from external sources rather than producing them in house when internal provision is not justified in light of existing or anticipated business condition (Leenders Nollett, 1984). It is a common solution to outsource non strategic business functions in order to diminish distraction and focuses managerial attention on operations within the scope of a company s core competencies. This practice is widely adopted by today s enterprises around the world, including airlines, to control costs, improve efficiencies and increase profitability (Feldman, 1992). However, although airlines are outsourcing their operations in order to remain competitive in increasingly challenging business environments, such practice may not always be successful and its theoretical justification may not have been fully explored (Rieple Helm, 2008). This paper studies the potential boundaries to what airlines can or cannot outsource in their operations, and whether financial considerations are paramount in such decisions. The benefits of airline outsourcing Outsourcing is becoming a norm and the next critical business process many enterprises are addressing (Lindegaard, 2004). • 4. Analysis Of Plato s Republic And The Letter Of The City... Assignment 1 Within Plato s Republic, are various theories and ideas about justice and if it something that is just in itself. This essay is meant to shine light on three of the key concepts (1) He has succeeded in Thrasymachus s challenge, (2) being just provides more happiness than being unjust, and (3) the letter of the city is irrelevant and does not help his case. Thrasymachus s theory is that there is no benefit to being just and that benefit would only com to the powerful. However, Socrates puts down this theory by proving that it is in every human s interest to be just and that this is done in order to maintain a balanced soul and ultimate happiness. Also, he extends his theory and connects the two by showing that the only way to reach balance within oneself is through actions and desires that are impossible to be unjust After disproving Thrasymachus, Socrates goes on and also states that being just does bring more happiness. His proof is of this is help within his analysis of pleasure, and the soul, along with the portal if the tyrant and that justice itself is a virtue. However, his discussion of the city and letters of the city is deemed irrelevant since it is based on the ideal state and the ideal city, which is not the care in reality and it does not matter what would happen in the ideal state since it cannot happen in reality. As indicated above, Socrates very much disproves Thrasymachus s theory by showing it is in everyone s interest to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Language Arts 8 1/26/15 Introduction Gary Zammit Doctor 12 years in the Sleep Disorder Institute (SDI) in NYC. 5:30 6:00 January 28, 2015. Telephone interview Gary is a CEO and leading expert in sleep disorders. 1) Are there any new technologies that can prevent or treat sleepwalking? I am not aware of any new technologies that are available to prevent or treat sleepwalking. There are some different forms of sleepwalking. Sleepwalking occurs in very deep sleep early in the night, and some of it is disorganized. There are other forms of sleepwalking that are more organized and have a purpose. For example, sleep eating is a disorder when people get out of bed and consume food during their sleep. But for all of those various forms of sleepwalking, we do not have any new or novel technologies that prevent or treat sleepwalking? 2) Is there a treatment for this disorder? Well sleepwalking is more common in kids and as children age and get into their teen years and adulthood, it is more common that sleepwalking goes away by itself. So it s kind of self limiting for most people but not everyone. For kids and adults who sleepwalk the best thing to do is to gently guide the sleepwalker back into bed and that is what takes care of it. Very often, they will stay asleep in bed and that is what takes care of it. So you don t want to startle a sleepwalker and you don t want to shake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The deductive reasoning methods used were that Peplau integrated ideas from a number of theories into her theory of interpersonal relations. Influenced by works of Sigmund Freud, particularly his interest in unconscious motivation as well as Harry S. Sullivan s theory of interpersonal relations all contributed to her development of the theory of interpersonal processes in nursing, For example she refers to Sullivan s concepts of anxiety, self system and modes of experiencing. (Peterson Bredow, 2017). She also incorporated into her theory some elements from developmental psychology and learning theory (Armstrong Kelly, 1995) and some ideas of the humanistic psychologists, Abraham Maslow, Rollo May and Carl Rogers. (Peterson Bredow, 2017). For example, Peplau s systematic approach to establishment of nurse patient relationship and therapeutic intervention are ideas that resonated with Martha Rogers theoretical assumptions about human pattern and organization. (Armstrong Kelly, 1995). Inductive Reasoning Peplau defined her inductive approach in both general and specific terms. More people should think this way because the world needs these companies to survive and it would be economic suicide to shut just oil and gas down, look at what is happening right now and it is only a downturn. But if new technology is created and new methods are put into place, then what is now seen as the worst form of energy, environmentally it can be seen as something that is more sustainable with less of an environmental impact. This is what my program focuses on, how to reduce waste and how to treat the waste that is created, so when it is either released back into the environment or there is a spill or leak that it will not be as harmful. The environmental technology program will help get more women into the science field which will then advance them in the working world. This program will draw women in because it can be seen less threatening than say a petroleum technology program where it is mostly men. Justice Penny White of Tennessee, lost her retention election in 1996 after the Tennessee Conservative Union campaigned against her, saying she was soft on crime and capital punishment. Justice White for example ordered a new death sentence hearing for the case of State v. Odom and was knocked off the bench in a retention election because of her decision. The delicate relationship between a ruler and his people balances on thin ice; be a leader and take charge, take the glory and power given and run. Do not, however, exploit this glory and power to the point of upsetting the people. Julius Caesar, like many rulers before and after him, worked tirelessly to strike this balance. Cicero in his piece Roman History says, Behold, here you have a man who was ambitious to be kind of the Roman People and master of the whole world; and he achieved it! The man who maintains that such an ambition is morally right is a madman; for he justifies the destruction of law and liberty and thinks their hideous and detestable suppression glorious. Cicero here is simply explaining that the power Caesar holds, and his wish to have power over everybody, is morally incorrect. His ways of handling the law and ruling makes him a madman for all he has done. He is inserting the idea here that Caesar s assassins had in mind this hunger for power Caesar held as a possible reason for his demise. Once faced with the powers of a ruler, he is simply after more, leading him to argue that something about that want of power is not right of a man. This argument is again attempted to be explained by Nicolaus of Damascus in Life of Augustsus. In this, Nicolaus touches on many points of possible contention, including the search for power Caesar had. He did not share his glory with others who deserved it, taking all of the power that resulted for himself. Nicolaus eloquently ties up his point in the statement, When he became exalted through many notable victories (which was fair enough) and began to think himself superhuman the common people worshipped him, but he began to be obnoxious to the optimates and to those who were trying to obtain a share in the government. The point is made here that as Caesar grew in the ranks ad gained more power of the people, he became less inclined to share this power with those attempting to also move up in government. What happen when we get angry but cannot express it? Or when we feel upset but have to try to be fine? Under some circumstances like these examples, we regulate our emotions. Emotion regulation(ER) refers to the capacity to control and manage one s emotional reaction in order to achieve a goal directed outcome. We know coping, reappraisal, or suppression as some typical tactics of managing emotions, but how these types of regulation strategies differ among individuals, and how cultural values can be related to the preference of use of different strategies? This study will provide a general idea beyond the basic understanding of ER by comparing individual difference on emotion related cultural value with regulation strategies. This study focuses on emotion related values based on the Hofstede model of six dimensions of national cultures (power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism/collectivism, masculinity/femininity, long/short term orientation, and indulgence/restraint), by only focusing on long/short term orientation and uncertainty avoidance as emotion related cultural values. • 22. Dante s Journey Through Hell, Purgatory, And Heaven Around 1314, Dante Alighieri completed the Inferno, the first section of what would make up The Divine Comedy, a collection of three poems reflecting Dante s imaginative journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. In these poems, Dante the poet describes the pilgrimage that Dante the pilgrim must complete to attain salvation. With the Roman poet Virgil as his guide, Dante the pilgrim must purge himself of his own sinful nature, which can only be achieved by observing and learning from those that have landed themselves in either Hell, Purgatory, or Heaven. Described in Inferno, his excursion begins in Hell where Dante learns about the stories and the sufferings of many sinners. As Dante the pilgrim progresses through Hell it is clear that he assumes different personas. In some instances, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as an empathetic man who pities the sinners while on other occasions, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as a callous and indignant being in regard to the sinners. While Dante the pilgrim is depicted in these two completely different ways, it is the insensitive portrayal that more precisely depicts Dante the pilgrim, as that is his true identity when he leaves Hell. His journey affected him so greatly that by the end of his pilgrimage, Dante the pilgrim has transformed from a compassionate man into an impervious and even cruel individual. • 30. Cardiac Output ( Co ) Cardiac Output (CO) is defined as the volume of blood pumped out by the heart, specifically by the left and right ventricle, per unit time (usually in 1 minute). It is the product of Stroke Volume (SV) and Heart Rate (HR) [1]. CO = SV x HR Jessica s pre exercise cardiac output can therefore be calculated as 70ml x 70bpm = 4900ml/min or 4.9L/min, whilst her post exercise cardiac output is 110ml x 130bpm = 14.3L/min. In an adult at rest, the average cardiac output is 4.9L/min for a human female and 5.6L/min for a male [2]. Throughout normal life, however, cardiac output can vary continuously depending on the metabolic demands of the body. As seen with Jessica, cardiac output may be raised during exercise, and may also be reduced, for example in sleep [3]. Stroke volume is the amount of blood pumped out from a ventricle in one heartbeat, and is dependent on several factors such as heart size, contraction duration, contractility, preload, and afterload [1]. Stroke volume can be calculated as the difference between the volume of blood in the ventricle just before a heartbeat (end diastolic volume; EDV) and the volume following contraction (end systolic volume; ESV) [4]. SV = EDV ESV Average stroke volume is around 70ml (in a healthy 70kg man; with approximately 120ml and 50ml measurements for EDV and ESV, respectively) [4]. Jessica s stroke volume is also 70ml, which increases (as expected) to 110ml following exercise, achieved by a drop in ESV due to a more complete emptying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Nietzsche s Iliad As A Demonstration Of A Single Nature... Nietzsche interprets Iliad as a demonstration of a single nature of power among the Greeks that leads to the brutal war. Simone Weil disagrees with Nietzsche and believes Iliad to be a representation of two forces, might and courtesy, which she calls gravity and grace (Simone Weil Handout, passage # 2, pg 2). Nietzsche considers only one perspective of the Iliad, the cruelty of power, in contrast, Weil examines both the good and the brutality shown in Homer s epic. Weil thinks of Homer s epic to be exhibiting the misery of the war, along with some sparks of grace (IC 48). Overall, Nietzsche thinks of Homer s Iliad only to be a celebration of competition derived by the will to power, whereas Weil considers Iliad as not just a representation of the rule by might, but also showing moments of courtesy through the savagery of war (NR 355). Nietzsche argues that Iliad is all about the constant battle of strife driven by the will to power in life. As he says ...life simply is the will to power (NR 355). Here, Nietzsche is saying that everyone in Iliad takes action in order to gain honor and power. For example, when Agamemnon returns his prize Chryseis, he says Achilles to give him his prize, Briseis because it would be a dishonor for him to be without a prize (SHI 5). This starts a conflict between the two, as Achilles says that it s better for him to return home, than being unhonored by giving up his prize (SHI 6). Nietzsche further mentions that Where I ... Organizational Decentralization Rationale of Decentralization The term decentralization is often used in business environments and can be defined as the organizational severance and division of power, capital, and technical procedures and control into multiple units of the business.1 Decentralized corporations make it possible for managers to control without ownership. 4 In decentralized organizations, the breakdown is that the president of each unit of a business is on his or her own management wise. The financial plan should include guidelines on such things as suitable profit margin and return on investment obligations. It is also up to headquarters to maintain adequate watch over each unit to ensure that they are performing freely within reasonability. It is important that unit action is free of detriment to the company s reputation as a whole. 2 There should also be a certain degree of expert functions performed by a competent staff. It would benefit a company more to have organizational units that focused on specific functions, instead of having each units employees and equipment perform multiple tasks. The reason is due to cost; it can become expensive to re equip a machine to shift from performing one function to performing another.1 Measuring Performance In order for a decentralized organization to be successful, it must be accommodating and led by proposals, values, and objectives that are not only steady but are relevant to long term practice. 1 According to a study done by McKinsey and Co. a successful decentralized company is simple in form and low on staff. Everyone wants happiness in their life, that is why most of our decisions are based on whether it will make us happy or not. This is where we underestimate the power of going through something sad or difficult. Although nobody searches for sadness, it is vital that we experience some sort of pain in our lives to balance the happy times, since there are risks of pursuing extreme happiness. Feeling happy when something bad happens won t teach you anything. If you lost your job, but you re happy you lost it, then you ll never learn the importance of a job. We also become more gullible when we re happy. This may cause you to miss warning signs that you need to see, causing you to trust someone more than you should. Fear ignites the fight or flight response. So, being too happy to acknowledge this can create many problems. For example, if I am mindlessly walking my dog down the sidewalk, headphones in, thinking of how excited I am for the weekend, I may not notice the sketchy car that is driving up behind me. Being happy during the wrong times could make you overlook something important, and could even make you worse off than you were before. I ve learned in philosophy that the more you search for happiness, the less likely you will be to find it. Epicureans believe that if you focus on what you are doing, rather than how you feel, then pleasure will come. Specialization of products throughout the world is a very real tactic used by many nations and usually different places in the world will specialize in different products because of each location s distinctive available resources. International trade opens up new ways to procure products that you aren t able to obtain through local means. The figure above shows the total world exported goods and how much money was traded between nations in the year 2014. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without international trade, a nation will not be able to get more wealthy because no money is coming in, but the nation is also not becoming poorer because no money is leaving the nation. This individualistic nature may seem like a good idea at the time because the nation will not get poorer, but it cuts of potential opportunities to mature that nation s economy and create wealth. In conclusion, international trade is a very important aspect of the global economy along with individual nation economies , such as the United States economy, supporting the gain of wealth, increasing the partnership between nation states, and aiding the growth of trade supporting jobs in that ... • 47. Experimental Theory, State Of The Art, And Economics The Fischer Tropsch (FT) process is a part of the larger Gas to Liquids technology. The purpose of the FT process is to convert syngas, which is a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, to liquid hydrocarbon fuels. Syngas for FT can be coal, natural gas, or biomass derived, which opens several pathways for how FT can be industrialized. Since its creation, the FT process has continuously been researched and commercialized, but it remains an unpopular pathway to obtain liquid fuels. Ongoing development of the process is primarily due to the value and promise of the FT products. This paper will give an overview of the FT process with a focus on describing the process, experimental theory, state of the art, and economics. 2. Process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [1] 2.1 Reactions and Products The FT process or FT synthesis is a set of catalytic processes for converting synthesis gas (syngas, carbon monoxide hydrogen and/or other gases mixture) into liquid hydrocarbons. [2] The reactions in the FT process are generally described as the following: Alkanes: (2n + 1)H2 + nCO โ‡’ CnH2n+2 + nH2O (1) Alkenes: 2nH2 + nCO โ‡’ CnH2n + nH2O (2) Oxygenates: 2nH2 + nCO โ‡’ CnH2n + 2O + (n 1)H2O (3) Water Gas Shift: CO + H2O โ‡” CO2 + H2 (4) The reaction stated before can be achieved with the help provided by the catalysts. The catalysts that can be used in this process are varied. The preferred catalysts are the metals that have electron configuration of d7 (although not required) [4]. These includes (1) Fe (Iron) = [Ar] 3d6 4s2, (2) Co (Cobalt) = [Ar] 3d7 4s2, (3) Ni (Nickel) = [Ar] 4s2 3d8, (4) Mo (Molybdenum) = [Kr] 4d5 5s1, (5) Ru (Ruthenium) = [Kr] 4d7 5s1. (6) Rh (Rhodium) = [Kr] 4d8 5s1, (7) W (Tungsten) = [Xe] 4f14 5d4 6s2, (8) Other platinum group noble metals. [5] In real life, catalysts considered for FT synthesis are based on transition metals of iron, cobalt, nickel and ruthenium. Among these catalysts, it is generally known that nickel (Ni) tends to promote methane formation, as in a methanation process; thus generally it is not desirable. Iron (Fe) is relatively low cost and has a higher water gas shift activity, and is therefore more suitable for a lower hydrogen/carbon monoxide ratio (H2/CO) syngas
