Essay The Closing Down Of Summer
Simple recipes by Madeleine Thien, and The Closing Down of Summer by Allister MacLeod both
focus on the struggles the characters undergo due to cultural gaps, or being away from home from
work, creating the sense of isolation or alienation within their families. The impression of isolation
found in the text is generated from the situational behaviours found in the actions, thoughts, or
exchange of language in the characters. For Macleod focuses on how his protagonist uses ancestral
rituals to find individual fulfillment on the account of his work occupation deteriorating his
connection with family. Whereas Thiens story demonstrates how the uses of ritualistic behaviour has
created a tension between the different social identities of oriental ... Show more content on

This effect is demonstrated through the protagonist s dislocation of being a father, and husband. The
narrator s perspective of being a parent has deteriorated, resulting in his perception that he s merely
become a financial lifeline for his children and spouse. Yet this allows them to live life in comfort, and
not undergo what he must. The protagonist s desire to fulfill the role of a father has become an
unattainable concept due to the incapability to express his emotional or mental struggles. Macleods
protagonist at face first is resilient too the challenges of his isolated work life. Yet the deep desire to
express himself to another has become forgotten. This is understood due being surrounded by other
workers who have also forgotten to express themselves, making self expression a forgotten skill. If the
need for communication in the workplace arises, it is done with a nod, grunt or reading of familiar lips
. In which Macleod narrator literally forgets how to express himself to his family, yet finds the means
of self expression through his ancestral culture, which is contrary to Thiens, where culture pushes

Comparison Of Ellis Joseph s Character And Political Views
The history presented by Ellis Joseph in American Sphinx: The Character of Thomas Jefferson
concerning Jefferson s life, including his drafting of the Declaration of Independence, diplomatic
experiences in Paris, domestic time spent at Monticello, terms of presidency, and final years, clarify
the development of his character and political views. Reoccurring themes of Jefferson s character
include his timid and conflicting demeanor, shown from his fright of public speaking and attention, his
use of paradoxes, shown by his opinions on slaves and Native Americans, and internal conflicts
regarding his large sums of debt, an alleged scandal with a his slave, and his constant desire for a
personal utopia. Yet despite Jefferson s contradictory character, ... Show more content on

Through glances of five periods during Thomas Jefferson s life, Joseph highlights Jefferson s
paradoxes, inconsistencies, and basic ideologies and theories that pressed his main decisions and
governance style throughout his lifetime. These clarify the development of his character and political
views and create a fascinating biography on this captivating president.
Joseph Ellis studied at the College of William and Mary and Yale University and has focused his
writing on early president biographies. His interests on this subject include how these men impacted
their times and how they were affected by them. He emphasizes character in these profiles, especially
in his most acknowledged works, Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation and American
Sphinx: The Character of Thomas Jefferson. Joseph writes of Jefferson s life chronologically,
beginning with his work as Virginia s delegate to the Continental Congress, drafting the Declaration of
Independence, and his final years in retirement at Monticello. He also describes his occupations as
Secretary of State, diplomatic works in France, as president, and as a

Bartleby The Scrivener Analysis
In Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener, Bartleby refuses to do work because he cannot adjust to
change in his life, and represents how the entire human race is like Barleby, and cannot change. For
example, the narrator describes Turkey, one of the three workers besides Bartleby, First, Turkey;
second, Nippers; third, Ginger Nut...(Turkey) began the daily period when I considered his business
capacities as seriously disturbed for the remainder of the twenty four hours. (Melville 1104). These
workers are symbolic and represent average workers. The worker s names are not their real names and
are called that when they are at work, this symbolizes that they are unidentified, average workers, and
are defined by what their job is at work, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, when Bartleby is introduced, the author talks about one of the first assignments that he is given,
Imagine my consternation when without moving from his privacy, Bartleby in a singularly mild, firm
voice, replied, I would prefer not to (Melville 1108). This text is an appeal to human emotion,
specifically confusion. Prior to describing this encounter with Bartleby, the narrator talks in detail
about how wonderful of a worker Bartleby is. This confusion is caused by Bartleby contradicting what
the narrator had previously said about his work ethic and catches the reader by surprise. This
assignment that Bartleby refuses to work on was just checking to see if his work was correct, a very
simple, easy task, but he refuses. This shows that Bartleby is completely unable to change to what is
needed of him. Lastly, Walt Whitman talks about his relationship with all the other men and women in
the world, And that all the men ever born are also my brothers, and the women my sisters and lovers
(Whitman 93). Whitman describes the relationship between him and everyone else on earth which is

The Pregnancy Of The Fetal Heart Rate
As technology progresses, it has become more important in our daily lives. Obstetricians and hospital
s rely on technology more than ever to flag potential problems during pregnancy, labor, and delivery
(1). Continuous recording of the fetal heart rate come into being in the 1970 s and is likely a big
contributor to the increase in Caesarean sections(1). Continuous monitoring allows doctors to make a
decision on what birthing method should be used: natural birth or caesarean. The benefits of natural
birth outweigh the risks of a Caesarean section to mother and baby. Pregnancy occurs when a sperm
and egg unite, this is called conception. A zygote is created, in one week the zygote attaches itself on
the uterine wall, and in two weeks becomes an embryo. Week 10 of pregnancy the embryo turns into a
fetus. The fetus develops more and more for 28 weeks. Around 39 40 weeks, a woman can go into
labor. Labor is when the mother starts having contractions, and the baby s head starts dropping into the
cervix. The cervix dilates and thins out. As the cervix is fully dilated at 10 centimeters the mother
beings pushing. Vaginal birth entails less discomfort after delivery (9). Vaginal birth babies can go
home with their babies sooner (9). Vaginal births take roughly one or two weeks for recovery (1).
During natural birth the baby gets a squeeze. This forces mucus and fluid out of the baby s airway.
With the Caesarean, the baby does not get the beneficial squeeze like vaginal

Many people are afraid of Emptiness, however, because it reminds them of Loneliness. Everything has

Loneliness really begins. (p.147)
By pointing out the paradox where the pursuit of fullness results in emptiness, it forces the audience to

At first I tried to define it, my plan was to create a religion, synthesizing the belief that such and such
is supposed to be perfect. After concluding that I needed a universal definition of perfection, this idea
was soon abandoned for being too narrow and I went on the search for a way to eliminate human
influence, thus rendering it objective and is therefore perfect as a matter of fact. Ultimately realizing
that perfection is a human construct and isolating it from humanity would leave me with nothing,
perfection would cease to exist. When I finally accepted the impossible nature of an objective
perfection, creating it became straightforward. A lie must be constructed in order to make it exist, and
when the impossible perfection comes to existence, thankfully as humans are not omniscient, the lie
can be covered up. I have tried to completely ignore the nature of perfection, making my own rules,
and that idea collapsed quickly. By giving in a little and learning about how the concept of perfection
came to be, I decided to alter it, bend it to my need but inevitably, I was unsuccessful. Only when I
went along with its nature without meddlesome, combative, or egotistical effort (p.68), was I able to

Walt Disney s Opening Day
Before Walt Disney World was built, Walt Disney had to secretly purchase the land using fake
company names in order to buy it inexpensively. He first had to explore across the United States for
the perfect location. He wanted to fulfill his idea: A family park where parents and children could have
fun together. He had already begun when Disneyland opened in 1955. Opening day was successful in
numbers: the freeway had a seven mile backup, an estimated 15,000 people were coming, but 28,000
showed up that day (Klein).
Purchasing the Land
Before there could be any ideas about what the new park would look like, a location had to be
determined. Walt Disney searched all across the United States. He needed an area with lots of land;
Walt said he would never make the mistake of not purchasing land around the structured park because
as soon as Disneyland opened, it was surrounded by tacky stores, restaurants, hotels and gift shops.
They were visible from inside the park, which made him very upset (Mongello).
One of the first ideas for a location was Niagara Falls, New York. Walt flew to the Falls and met with
the mayor to discuss his idea. The plan didn t last very long, and Walt soon moved to another location,
Marceline, Missouri. It was where Walt lived until he was nine. He planned on buying a 45 acre farm
for the project. It was a special place that meant a lot to him; actually, Main Street in Disneyland was
inspired by Marceline. Before the plan was tossed, Walt stayed up

Title:
Compare and contrast Chinese classical dance and European Classical ballet.
Introduction:
The main topic of my research paper is comparing and contrasting the difference between Chinese
Classical dance and European Classical ballet. The questions I will develop in the paper included as
follows.
The first one is the difference of movement between Chinese classical dance and European Classical
ballet.
The second one is the difference of performance between Chinese classical dance and European
Classical ballet.
The third one is the difference of tools they use on the stage.
The method I used is comparing and contrasting , reading article and doing research

For centuries classical Chinese dance was passed down mostly among the common people. After
1919, however, dedicated artists believed that they had a responsibility to systematically document
Chinese dance that was the beginning of the formal teaching of classical Chinese dance. To develop
and rejuvenate folk dance, the artists learned from dance elements of folk operas, and incorporated
techniques in ballet training and Chinese martial art forms, creating a unique system of classical
Chinese dance. For the history of Russian Classical ballet, it originated in a group of dance academies
in Moscow and St Petersburg in the eighteenth century. At first the dancers were from poor
backgrounds usually from orphanages but the Tsars were particular ballet enthusiasts and so the
profile grew. However, in the nineteenth century some of the best French and Italian dancers and
teachers went to Russia and ballet developed considerably more than in Western Europe where opera
was preferred. It was under this climate that Russian ballet led the way in classical dance with such
famous stars as Anna Pavlova, Mikhail Foskine and the legendary Nijinsky, who all trained with the
Frenchman Marius Petipa at the St Petersburg Imperial Ballet.

The Emotional Brain Overpowering The Thinking Brain
In the psychopathologies mentioned above, one thing is common the emotional brain overpowering
the thinking brain. Therefore, in dealing with these psychopathologies, the main goal is to somehow
wake the thinking brain up so that it could fire the needed neurons to finally control the emotional
brain. It can be as simple as trying to talk some sense into the person. This is because when a person is
listening, it is the neocortex that is being used and will therefore fire up more neurons. Just like the
child who is throwing a random tantrum, instead of giving him or her at once the thing that he or she
wants, tell the child to calm down, tell him or her that he or she does not need to cry or shout or to
even hurt people in order to get what

Japanese Samurai Film Genre Essays
The Seven Samurai directed by Akira Kurosawa uses many film techniques and features of the
Japanese samurai film genre to engage and influence the viewing audience. The Japanese samurai film
genre focuses on the physical martial arts, and is very similar to American westerns. These films are
usually set in the Tokugawa era and the main characters are samurai, or Ronin. The Seven Samurai is
a stereotypical Japanese samurai movie set in the Tokugawa era about a village full of farmers who
hire seven samurai to protect their village from a group of bandits. Kurosawa has used many features
of a typical samurai film in The Seven Samurai such as the use of the katana, the samurai were usually
clean cut and are seen as socially superior and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the film when the farmers are walking around the town looking for samurai to help their village it is
easy for the farmers and also the viewing audience to tell the difference between the samurai and the
peasants. The samurai walk around with pride, they have their chest up and are look above the crowd
as if they should not be there with the peasants, and the peasants are hunched over looking at the floor.
When the farmers go to the village in search of samurai, Rikichi, one of the farmers, gets down on his
knees and begs for the samurai to help his village, many of the samurai just walked past him without
blinking an eye, they should not be dealing with peasants, they are superior, they should be answering
to lords not peasants. All samurai even Ronin are seen as socially superior and they act that way as
well, most of them wouldn t work for the farmers. The samurai thought they shouldn t be employed by
mere peasants and that they should work for lords and shoguns.
Endings were usually described as bitter sweet as life goes on in the face of tragedy. This feature of
the samurai film genre focuses on the end of the film, the endings are usually have someone or a
number of important people die, the bitter part, but the main antagonist is also captured or killed, the
sweet part. The ending of The Seven Samurai is seen as bitter sweet as the bandits die, and the village
is saved however

User Authentication in Computer Security
1 INTRODUCTION
User authentication is a most important component in most computer security. It provides user with
access control and user accountability. As we know there are many types of user authentication
systems in the market but alphanumerical username/passwords are the most common type of user
authentication. They are many and easy to implement and use. Due to the limitation of human
memory, most users tend to choose short or simple passwords which are easy to remember. Surveys
show that frequent passwords are personal names of family members, birth date, or dictionary words.
In most cases, these passwords are easy to guess and vulnerable to dictionary attack. Today users have
many passwords for personal computers, social networks, E mail, and more. They may decide to use
one password for all systems to decrease the memory burden, which reduce security. Graphical
passwords is harder to guess or broken by brute force. If the number of possible pictures is sufficiently
large, the possible password space of a graphical pass word scheme may exceed that of text based
schemes and thus most probably offer improved security against dictionary attacks. The use of
graphical password methods is gaining awareness because of these advantages. Graphical passwords
were originally described by Blonder. In his description, an image would appear on the screen, and the
user would click on a few chosen regions of it. If the correct regions were clicked in, the user would

Research Paper On Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats
Why Dogs Make Better Pets Than Cats. Dogs and cats are most pets that are seen with their owner.
These two animals make good pets to have. Dogs are physical and fun animals that runs with a flock
of their inheritance. Cats are feminine and spoil animals that like to have its way. When it comes down
to choose the better pet, dogs are better pets than cats. Some pet owners think dog and cat food the
same. Dogs have better food to eat because the type of dogs I like can eat some of the same food as I.
Dogs can eat a variety of food either if it s home cooked of store bought dog food. I can feed a dog

Rat Overpopulation Research Paper
In many parts of the world, rats have invaded in and out of people s homes. Rat infestation has been a
problem for generation after generation. Rat overpopulation is a result of various causes and they can
cause a multitude of problems for humans. When searching for a solution to the overpopulation of
rats, one must first consider the origins of the problem, the dangers it is causing, and how to eradicate
them.
To begin, one major subject you should evaluate is the origin of the problem, how the rodent
infestation started. Natural disasters, lack and excess amounts of food, and inclement weather are all
reasons the rats have invaded cities everywhere. In source #1, it states, Recent cold weather and
flooding is believed to have led the disease carrying rodents to shelter indoors. This explains how the
weather conditions have brought the rats seeking indoor shelters, which means they ve been running
straight into people s homes. Also, it states in source #3, And with the regrowth of vegetation, the rats
and mice have had an ample food source and are reproducing quickly. This exemplifies how the
rodents have had easy food sources from the vegetation growing back, which then results in them
repopulating at an increased rate. All in all, the weather conditions and vegetations have brought the
rats out into the cities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ruin several other things in individuals homes. Overall, the rat s actions have ruined people s

Horatio s Disappearance Of Ghosts
Regarding the ghost s regular appearance at 1 am, I have two hunches:
First, the ghost may be appearing at that time to make clear that his presence is real and not a figment
of the imagination. In Act I, he appears when Horatio s shift begins. This might be so Horatio can see
him first hand, seeing that Horatio is the only watchman Hamlet will actually believe.
Second, the ghost may be appearing at such hour because ghosts are not allowed to be out in daylight.
Based on myths of the Elizabethan time, ghosts were only allowed to leave their abyss after the
witching hour (midnight) ─ this gives quite an eerie effect.
As for the ghost s disappearance, he vanishes when the rooster crows. The rooster is like a clock that
anticipates sunrise and

The Conflict Between Ralph And Jack
The conflict between Ralph and Jack shows how lack of civilization can result to savagery. Ralph
states, We need shelters contrasting to Jack who says, We need meat (Golding, p.42). The lack of
civilization in Jack shows because he thinks hunting is more important than shelters although he has
yet to catch a pig, while on the other hand Ralph thinks it s more important to build shelter for a sense
of home and protection from the rain and the beastie that all the littluns are afraid of. Let him be chief
with the trumpet thing (Golding, p. 15). This quote states that Ralph should be in charge because he
has the conch, and Jack gets upset since he is not voted chief but then Ralph puts him charge of the
choir boys who later on become the hunters. Ralph creates civilization when he is given power to
become the chief on the island, and he has the power with or without the conch. Later in the novel
when Ralph realizes he doesn t like being dirty and disliked perpetually flicking the tangled hair put of
his eyes, it shows that Ralph is used the civilization he had before and wants to return to that
civilization (Golding, p.66). Then Jack becomes an example of savagery when he shows up to the fire
in chapter 8, stark naked save for the paint and a belt (Golding, p.125). Ralph and his followers show
the civilized and orderly side of the island, but on the contrary, Jack and his tribe show the savagery of
man and barbaric side of the island. The contrasting images

Domestication Of Foxes Essay

Science Research Paper
Domestication of foxes in Russia In the world people have been domesticating animals for
amusement, comfort, and for them to be mans best friend. Now a new mans best friend comes to
thought; to domesticate foxes. In Russia a Soviet geneticist Dmitry K. Belyaev started the fast pace
domestication of foxes. Up to 50,000 foxes used through time people are getting close to the
domestication of foxes, although the process was very detailed; with genetic science, to identify how
phenotypes change from experiments, and how the fox s will change their behavior. Out of a small
town in 1954 in Siberia Dmitry K Belyaev set out to isolate the genes of dogs that were easy to train.

Their body size, fur color, fur length, and if the fur was straight or curly was all altered. Some lost
pigmentation in some areas of their body. Many physical traits changed for them by domestication.
Although some people get domestication confused, domestication is the change in a genetic level. The
actual definition is is the process whereby a population of living organisms is changed at the genetic
level, through generations of selective breeding, to accentuate traits that ultimately benefit the interests
of humans. Taming is different then domestication by a long shot. Taming means to train a wild
animal not to kill the human. Also by taming them, the fox doesn t have a strong affection and
willingness to do anything to comfort the human. The program also tests willingness to obedience. For
the owner of the fox to have a great relationship with his companion, the fox must learn simple
obedience. Simple calls will be tested on the foxes in Russia: come, sit, stay, down, and settle. All
domesticated foxes will go through the process by hand gestures. Then the scientists will take notes on
how the animals do. If the kits are raised and treated like domesticated dog puppies and pass this test,
then the scientist will concur that the genes are pertinent to domestication and are present in their

Pass Rush Research Paper
Without signing a hot commodity in free agency or drafting a highly projected premium round pass
rusher, the vibe from most outsiders is that the Cowboys brass didn t do enough to improve the pass
rush.
With exceptionally talented but controversial edge rusher Greg Hardy s rubbish last season kicking
him out of the picture there isn t a D lineman on the Cowboys current roster that s impacted a defense
as much as Hardy, who draws double teams on the edge and when shifted inside. However, not having
an elite edge rusher doesn t render the chances of your defensive front to wreak havoc and pile up
sacks.
By evidence of what the Seahawks rolled with on the defensive line in route to their first and only
Super Bowl title three seasons ago you can hit the jackpot without spending big in free agency or

Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five -- A Great American Novel
For a novel to be considered a Great American Novel, it must contain a theme that is uniquely
American, a hero that is the essence of a great American, or relevance to the American people. Others
argue, however, that the Great American Novel may never exist. They say that America and her image
are constantly changing and therefore, there will never be a novel that can represent the country in its
entirety. In his novel, Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut writes about war and its destructiveness.

The goals of this paper were to bring to light the results of the way divers felt after exploring artificial

deaths and bleaching are caused mostly by people who just wish to admire the reefs in their natural

well looked upon by the divers due to experience they had while diving on the artificial compared to
the natural reefs around them. The article tell us what it is about the artificial reefs that attract divers,

allowing people to experience only a slice of what a reef has to offer rather than letting the ecotourists

solution to the fight between the economic battle and the ecological threats is building artificial reefs
right next to natural reefs to divert divers away from the natural ones. Artificial reefs made up of large
vehicles underwater is sure to draw attention and damage away from the natural reef. This has extreme
benefits to ocean conservation and ecotourism.
The methods used in Eilat, Israel were to provide a more diverse diving experience and redirect divers
away from the fragile natural corals. Over the years that artificial reefs have been established along the

While certain symbols and figures maintained the significance and meanings despite the passage of
time, art styles utilized by the different Mesoamerican civilizations evolved with the passage of time.
Having a unified system in which each of the figures possessed the same meanings and importance for
each civilization, allowed for the emergence of an art style that could be easily understood and utilized
by most. Before the Postclassical International system, there was not a unified art style used through
Mesoamerica; this system was an expression of the unification among the dominant religious and
political views at the time after the fall of Teotihuacan and before the rise of Tula (Kubler Ecleticism
172). Developing a unique, yet universal style was enabled by the similarities in the ideologies of the
different Mesoamerican civilizations. Through repeated interaction, the symbols and styles merged. In
order to create a system different cultures could understand and identify, the meaning attributed to
each of the symbols had to be somewhat similar throughout the different regions. The merger could
not have occurred if the symbolized used by the different population did not resemble each other. Due
to their similarity, with repeated interaction the

Hellenistic Monks
A monastic community is a place where women or men live out vows of obedience, poverty, and
chastity. The monks of Norcia are an international community with a median age of 36. This
brotherhood unites them to one to another by their common search for God. The three characteristics
of a monastery are prayer, observance, and liturgical life.
Described by the Rule of St. Benedict, the full Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) marks hours of the
day dedicated to the prayer life of the monks. Additional prayers such as the Jesus Prayer, the Rosary,
Eucharistic Adoration, and Lectio Divina Prayers add to the daily round of Mass and Offices as
spiritual nourishment. Aspects of observance are St. Benedict s fast, chanting of the Office, the
observance of silence, and abstinence from meat. Monks foster the reconciliation in the heart of the
Church through the careful celebration of the liturgy. The liturgy is the public prayer of the Church
that celebrates what God has done for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Benedict said, Keep death daily before your eyes. St. Benedict s saying refers to more than physical
death, but also death to self. A monk is called to this daily, such as leaving family, friends, and home.
Through prayer and daily conversion, the monks die to self and remain hidden or forgotten. They
observe the many rules of Saint Benedict s outline for monastic life, dependability to prayer, vigil, and
fasting. The beauty of the Church s liturgical tradition communicates the peace of Christ to the rest of
world.
The Rule of Saint Benedict is a book of precepts written by Benedict of Nursia for monks living under
an abbot. It is summed up in the motto of the Benedictine Confederation: ora et labora, which means
pray and work. This rule has been used by Benedictines for fifteen centuries. The model for the
monastic life is based on a family, with the abbot as father and all monks as

The microscope which is invented and developed by much different scientist overtime is one of the
most important tools a scientist especially in the biology and chemistry study can use. It made an

2nd century. There are also the spectacles also known as glasses that are still used today. The first
spectacle was invented by an Italian named Salvino D Armate. The spectacle was a major invention

The Blind Side Vs. Great Expectations
Classic Novels: The Blind Side vs. Great Expectations
Classic novels are almost abundant in this day and age. One can find them almost anywhere, and the
meanings can impact life in a major way. Although many books hold the honor of being considered a
classic, some stories are on the outskirts, hoping to have the chance to join the ranks. Stories like these
hope to one day join this honorable list. The Blind Side by Michael Lewis is one of those stories. The
characters are relatable, the setting sets the tone of the story, the plot is driven hard throughout the
story, and the overall themes of the story are universal. The Blind Side truly is an all time classic.
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, three main points categorize a classic. The story must be
considered the best of its kind. In other words, it has to be popular among its literary genre for an
extended period, such as Great Expectations or A Tale of Two Cities in the autobiographical fiction
genre. It has to be an example of excellence. That means it has to be shown to make a change in the
lives of people, such as Grapes of Wrath showing people they can overcome any obstacle thrown in
their way. The story can not only be famous for a year to be considered a classic. It has to be
remembered for years and years to come, such as Old Yeller or The Great Gatsby. In the non fiction
book The Blind Side, a young man, Michael Oher, is living in the poor suburbs of Memphis,
Tennessee, in

Examples Of Just War Utilitarianism
Just war theory includes the justification of the how and why that wars are fought. The justification of
war can be either viewed from a theoretical or historical perspective. The theoretical aspect regards
justifying war in an ethical manner and the specific forms that combat may or may not involve. The
historical aspect, or the just war tradition, deals with the rules or agreements that have been applied to
wars throughout time. Ethics examine institutional agreements for their philosophical coherence as
well as to inquire about whether aspects of the conventions should be altered. The just war tradition
may also consider the thoughts of various philosophers and lawyers throughout time and to examine
both their philosophical visions of war s ethical limits (or absence ... Show more content on

This can be applied to the just war theory. For the utilitarian approach, the end justifies the means.
Therefore, a nation would not need a just war cause other than having the right intentions and making
sure that the war would produce the greatest good for the greatest number of individuals. The notion
of jus in bello is to make sure that less evil will come about if the war is fought. For example, when
looking at New York City s 9/11 bombings, a utilitarian would say that this was wrong : it was a
selfish approach that did not end in the greatest good for the greatest number; a utilitarian would not
go against a threat made by a country or world leader if the outcome would be the best for the entire
world and would make it a better place than it was before. The other approach: people are going to
war without a just cause other than for just good intentions. This would make the world a volatile,
shaky unstable place. Overall, the utilitarian and the jus in bello advocate would agree with the just
war theory that war might be necessary to make the world a better place as long as the war is justified

18th Century Music
During the 18th century, music was used as a social enhancement on the rising middle class who
showed interest in intellectual ideals of Enlightenment. The rising middle class were people who
would come between the working class and the upper class. Such as craftsman, bankers, and
merchants. These select few decided that since they can now afford some of life s pleasures, that they
would spend it on music that aristocrats and nobility would listen to. While on the other hand, during
the 19th century, music began to develop a more story base theme with a moral lesson. Such as Ballets
and Grand Operas. So basically, during the 18th 19th century, music has evolved from just sound or
noise to a elegant and graceful story played through musical notation with different musical
instruments while advancing the growth of the middle class.
To begin with , the 18th century was the Classical era. In which music had order, symmetry, and
formal restraint. Composers such as Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig
van Beethoven began creating music that pulled away from music that was mainly created for
churches. This secular music they created became entertainment for the aristocrats and the nobility. A
composer by the name of Johann Stamitz organized one of preliminary forms of the classical
orchestra. This orchestra consisted of the string section, the woodwind section, the brass section, and
the percussion section. The largest of the orchestra was called a symphony.

Machiavellian Reformation Essay
Machiavellian Reformation and the Protestant Reformations differ based on the perspective the world
is being viewed from. The Machiavellian reformation comes from a want to secularize the world while
the Protestant Reformations are based on the belief that Christendom should take priority over the
temporal world.
Machiavelli believed that, All armed profits have conquered, and the unarmed ones have been
destroyed, ( Machiavelli 4). He viewed force in this instance as physical which shows that he does not
include Christ s force when discussing victory. In order to reach his goal of changing the readers
moral perspective, he refrained from including morality. Instead, he spoke through a secular lens.

Their actions do not outweigh their reasoning and beliefs. Their belief that, He lives only for others
not for himself, ( Luther 1) shows that, a ruler for instance, should refrain from acting justly in order
to secure power. Instead they should act for the sole reason of helping the people they rule over. The
whole excerpt is shaped around a persons belief in God. Instead of acting in order to be justified
people should work for the betterment of others. I greatly fear that at this day few or no...functions are

of a persons life.
A main theme in Luther s writing is that he did not want people to act, With the object of gaining any
advantage, either temporal of eternal, ( Luther 5 ). He strives to see a world where there are no kings
or magistrates because he believes that Christ alone should lead humanity. If these leaders were
appointed by God then it is the peoples duty to respect and be guided by them.
Machiavelli strives for a world where christendom has no influence while Luther strives to incorporate
christian beliefs into all aspects of life in order to have a better civilization. While in Machiavelli s
writings it is clear that actions have more importance that thoughts, Luther believes that religious
thoughts are of the highest importance when making decisions and acting. These two

Political Correctness in Oleanna Essay
Re read Act 2 from page 43 (JOHN and CAROL seated across the desk from each other.) to page 48
(CAROL: It s ludicrous... ?). Examine how Mamet presents political correctness in this extract and
elsewhere in the play.
Political correctness features prominently within the play. Political correctness was seen as a highly
controversial issue in the late 1980s to the early 1990s and was argued within a 1992 essay collection,
debating political correctness, that it was The most important discussion in American education . This
was perhaps due to the numerous amounts of opinions on whether or not political correctness was
right. Political correctness repressed people s abilities to freedom of speech and therefore there were
many differing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this does contrast to Mamet s view as he said about John and Carol that he thinks they re
both absolutely wrong, and they re both absolutely right . The idea of elitists always getting their own
way links to later on in the play, when John uses the expletives, bitch and cunt . It is suggested that
John is perhaps mocking Carol by using the expletives, as he is being politically incorrect. While
Carol tries to enforce political correctness, John dismisses it due to the hubris that he holds, which in
Greek Mythology, excessive arrogance was called hubris.
In the extract, it appears that John recognises the mistakes that he has made. However, he makes no
effort to change his ways, possibly due to the lack of control that he has over himself and his lack of
ability to change his ways, I don t mean to subject you to my weak sensibilities It doesn t seem to be
an apology from John, and therefore just a passing statement. This again reinforces his lack of willing,
to change. This links back to Act one, when John s use of declaratives and pronouns portrays his
confidence and control over Carol, Let s take the mysticism out of it, shall we? Carol? Don t you
think? . This lack of conforming to political correctness links to a speech that president George Bush
gave in 1991, where he spoke out against a movement which would declare certain topics off limits .
In the extract, John also comments, I find that I am sexist.

Baseball Is The Best Sports Essay
Why Baseball Is the Best Sport
As Walt Whitman stated, I see great things in baseball. It s our game the American game. Baseball has
always been America s Pastime making it the greatest sport to be played. From Mike Trout to Ken
Griffey Junior or even all the way back to the Babe, baseball has been a constant success in the eyes of
every fanatic. Four cases come to mind to prove that baseball is a cut above all other sports. Baseball
is superior over all other sports because of the food. All baseball fanatics know that the concessions
are a must, every time they visit the ballpark. In 2013, there were 20,421,361 ballpark franks sold at
stadiums around the MLB. The hot dogs aren t the only attraction, though. For example, the famous
chili cheese nachos at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati or the carne asada fries for the Padres.
And the list doesn t end there. Every stadium in the MLB has their own signature dish. Even though
the MLB possesses the best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The history behind this sport is unlike any other. Jackie Robinson came into the sport in 1947 and
changed the sport forever. Not only did this change affect baseball, it affected the whole world helping
the end of segregation laws in 1964. Also the records are like nothing else. No other sport can
experience the atmosphere of a perfect game or a no hitter in the making. Records are broken each and
every year in baseball, making the statistics of the game just as interesting as the game itself. Another
example of the MLB s rich history is that it brought our country together during a time of need. For
example, teams rallied around New York City in 2001 and honored all the victims of 9/11. During
World War 2, baseball was one of the only bright spots in the world. The sport held families together
and helped keep people s minds off of actions overseas. Baseball goes all the way back to the 19th
century, and there has never been a sport quite like

The Literary Analysis Of Girl By Jamaica Kincaid
Girl: A living being limited to a set of instructions
What if you were pre determined how to live your life and there would be a set of instructions for
every little thing you do? Perhaps, the short story Girl , it s all about the set of instructions, cautions
given to a girl by her mother on how to live her life before somewhat 30 years. The short story Girl ,
was written by Jamaica Kincaid, that was first published in The New Yorker in 1978. It is a very short
story in which it can be interpreted that has two characters, the mother and the daughter in which
mother is a domain or the main speaker of the story and daughter is the listener. Daughter just speaks a
sentence or two in the whole story. The story Girl shows how a girl is bound to meet the expectations
set by the society on how to be a good woman and a girl is always likely to be vulnerable to sexuality.
Although the story is only 650 words long, analyzing it from the feminist criticism, it has a very deep
and vast meaning. It has prevailed around 30 years ago, now the society is changing rapidly and so is
the perspective and viewpoint towards the woman. The narrator in this short story is the girl, who can
be assumed to be a girl entering adolescence, it can be said so as she is been taught how to do all the
household work and how to deal with her sexuality. From the very first line instructions are being
given to the girl on how to do the household work Wash the clothes on Monday... (Kincaid). It shows
that females were expected to do all the work in the house with no doubt and with no questions. They
were supposed to do it all by themselves and it was taught as soon as a girl grows as if they were
destined to do that in her life. It can be clearly said that there was less or no options for girls. By
learning the household work and being perfecting on it, it was believed to be the way to be a good
woman or an acceptable woman in the society. Women were treated like a machine, expected to do the
work with a less expectation, just like the machine needs fuel, oil to work and handled by an operator,
in the same way, women would work with less or no expectation but the acceptability in the society
and handled by the society itself.

  • 2. Essay The Closing Down Of Summer Simple recipes by Madeleine Thien, and The Closing Down of Summer by Allister MacLeod both focus on the struggles the characters undergo due to cultural gaps, or being away from home from work, creating the sense of isolation or alienation within their families. The impression of isolation found in the text is generated from the situational behaviours found in the actions, thoughts, or exchange of language in the characters. For Macleod focuses on how his protagonist uses ancestral rituals to find individual fulfillment on the account of his work occupation deteriorating his connection with family. Whereas Thiens story demonstrates how the uses of ritualistic behaviour has created a tension between the different social identities of oriental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This effect is demonstrated through the protagonist s dislocation of being a father, and husband. The narrator s perspective of being a parent has deteriorated, resulting in his perception that he s merely become a financial lifeline for his children and spouse. Yet this allows them to live life in comfort, and not undergo what he must. The protagonist s desire to fulfill the role of a father has become an unattainable concept due to the incapability to express his emotional or mental struggles. Macleods protagonist at face first is resilient too the challenges of his isolated work life. Yet the deep desire to express himself to another has become forgotten. This is understood due being surrounded by other workers who have also forgotten to express themselves, making self expression a forgotten skill. If the need for communication in the workplace arises, it is done with a nod, grunt or reading of familiar lips . In which Macleod narrator literally forgets how to express himself to his family, yet finds the means of self expression through his ancestral culture, which is contrary to Thiens, where culture pushes ... Reoccurring themes of Jefferson s character include his timid and conflicting demeanor, shown from his fright of public speaking and attention, his use of paradoxes, shown by his opinions on slaves and Native Americans, and internal conflicts regarding his large sums of debt, an alleged scandal with a his slave, and his constant desire for a personal utopia. Yet despite Jefferson s contradictory character, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through glances of five periods during Thomas Jefferson s life, Joseph highlights Jefferson s paradoxes, inconsistencies, and basic ideologies and theories that pressed his main decisions and governance style throughout his lifetime. These clarify the development of his character and political views and create a fascinating biography on this captivating president. Joseph Ellis studied at the College of William and Mary and Yale University and has focused his writing on early president biographies. His interests on this subject include how these men impacted their times and how they were affected by them. He emphasizes character in these profiles, especially in his most acknowledged works, Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation and American Sphinx: The Character of Thomas Jefferson. • 4. Bartleby The Scrivener Analysis In Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener, Bartleby refuses to do work because he cannot adjust to change in his life, and represents how the entire human race is like Barleby, and cannot change. For example, the narrator describes Turkey, one of the three workers besides Bartleby, First, Turkey; second, Nippers; third, Ginger Nut...(Turkey) began the daily period when I considered his business capacities as seriously disturbed for the remainder of the twenty four hours. (Melville 1104). These workers are symbolic and represent average workers. The worker s names are not their real names and are called that when they are at work, this symbolizes that they are unidentified, average workers, and are defined by what their job is at work, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later, when Bartleby is introduced, the author talks about one of the first assignments that he is given, Imagine my consternation when without moving from his privacy, Bartleby in a singularly mild, firm voice, replied, I would prefer not to (Melville 1108). This text is an appeal to human emotion, specifically confusion. Prior to describing this encounter with Bartleby, the narrator talks in detail about how wonderful of a worker Bartleby is. This confusion is caused by Bartleby contradicting what the narrator had previously said about his work ethic and catches the reader by surprise. This assignment that Bartleby refuses to work on was just checking to see if his work was correct, a very simple, easy task, but he refuses. This shows that Bartleby is completely unable to change to what is needed of him. Lastly, Walt Whitman talks about his relationship with all the other men and women in the world, And that all the men ever born are also my brothers, and the women my sisters and lovers (Whitman 93). • 5. The Pregnancy Of The Fetal Heart Rate As technology progresses, it has become more important in our daily lives. Obstetricians and hospital s rely on technology more than ever to flag potential problems during pregnancy, labor, and delivery (1). Continuous recording of the fetal heart rate come into being in the 1970 s and is likely a big contributor to the increase in Caesarean sections(1). Continuous monitoring allows doctors to make a decision on what birthing method should be used: natural birth or caesarean. The benefits of natural birth outweigh the risks of a Caesarean section to mother and baby. Pregnancy occurs when a sperm and egg unite, this is called conception. A zygote is created, in one week the zygote attaches itself on the uterine wall, and in two weeks becomes an embryo. Week 10 of pregnancy the embryo turns into a fetus. The fetus develops more and more for 28 weeks. Around 39 40 weeks, a woman can go into labor. Labor is when the mother starts having contractions, and the baby s head starts dropping into the cervix. The cervix dilates and thins out. As the cervix is fully dilated at 10 centimeters the mother beings pushing. Vaginal birth entails less discomfort after delivery (9). Vaginal birth babies can go home with their babies sooner (9). Vaginal births take roughly one or two weeks for recovery (1). During natural birth the baby gets a squeeze. This forces mucus and fluid out of the baby s airway. With the Caesarean, the baby does not get the beneficial squeeze like vaginal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Tedtalk s The Illusion Of Consciousness Nowhere and Nothing Many people are afraid of Emptiness, however, because it reminds them of Loneliness. Everything has to be filled in, it seems appointment books, hillsides, vacant lots but when all the spaces are filled, the Loneliness really begins. (p.147) By pointing out the paradox where the pursuit of fullness results in emptiness, it forces the audience to examine situations from their own experience, specifically failures and check whether they have been going the wrong direction the whole time. It further blurs the boundaries between black and white, not only does grayscale constitute the majority of our reality, but one is also within another, they are interconnected and complementary. Resulting in, not coincidentally, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first I tried to define it, my plan was to create a religion, synthesizing the belief that such and such is supposed to be perfect. After concluding that I needed a universal definition of perfection, this idea was soon abandoned for being too narrow and I went on the search for a way to eliminate human influence, thus rendering it objective and is therefore perfect as a matter of fact. Ultimately realizing that perfection is a human construct and isolating it from humanity would leave me with nothing, perfection would cease to exist. When I finally accepted the impossible nature of an objective perfection, creating it became straightforward. A lie must be constructed in order to make it exist, and when the impossible perfection comes to existence, thankfully as humans are not omniscient, the lie can be covered up. I have tried to completely ignore the nature of perfection, making my own rules, and that idea collapsed quickly. By giving in a little and learning about how the concept of perfection came to be, I decided to alter it, bend it to my need but inevitably, I was unsuccessful. Only when I went along with its nature without meddlesome, combative, or egotistical effort (p.68), was I able to attain the otherwise impossible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Walt Disney s Opening Day Before Walt Disney World was built, Walt Disney had to secretly purchase the land using fake company names in order to buy it inexpensively. He first had to explore across the United States for the perfect location. He wanted to fulfill his idea: A family park where parents and children could have fun together. He had already begun when Disneyland opened in 1955. Opening day was successful in numbers: the freeway had a seven mile backup, an estimated 15,000 people were coming, but 28,000 showed up that day (Klein). Purchasing the Land Before there could be any ideas about what the new park would look like, a location had to be determined. Walt Disney searched all across the United States. He needed an area with lots of land; Walt said he would never make the mistake of not purchasing land around the structured park because as soon as Disneyland opened, it was surrounded by tacky stores, restaurants, hotels and gift shops. They were visible from inside the park, which made him very upset (Mongello). One of the first ideas for a location was Niagara Falls, New York. Walt flew to the Falls and met with the mayor to discuss his idea. The plan didn t last very long, and Walt soon moved to another location, Marceline, Missouri. It was where Walt lived until he was nine. He planned on buying a 45 acre farm for the project. It was a special place that meant a lot to him; actually, Main Street in Disneyland was inspired by Marceline. Before the plan was tossed, Walt stayed up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For centuries classical Chinese dance was passed down mostly among the common people. After 1919, however, dedicated artists believed that they had a responsibility to systematically document Chinese dance that was the beginning of the formal teaching of classical Chinese dance. To develop and rejuvenate folk dance, the artists learned from dance elements of folk operas, and incorporated techniques in ballet training and Chinese martial art forms, creating a unique system of classical Chinese dance. For the history of Russian Classical ballet, it originated in a group of dance academies in Moscow and St Petersburg in the eighteenth century. At first the dancers were from poor backgrounds usually from orphanages but the Tsars were particular ballet enthusiasts and so the profile grew. However, in the nineteenth century some of the best French and Italian dancers and teachers went to Russia and ballet developed considerably more than in Western Europe where opera was preferred. It was under this climate that Russian ballet led the way in classical dance with such famous stars as Anna Pavlova, Mikhail Foskine and the legendary Nijinsky, who all trained with the Frenchman Marius Petipa at the St Petersburg Imperial Ballet. ... • 9. The Emotional Brain Overpowering The Thinking Brain In the psychopathologies mentioned above, one thing is common the emotional brain overpowering the thinking brain. Therefore, in dealing with these psychopathologies, the main goal is to somehow wake the thinking brain up so that it could fire the needed neurons to finally control the emotional brain. It can be as simple as trying to talk some sense into the person. This is because when a person is listening, it is the neocortex that is being used and will therefore fire up more neurons. Just like the child who is throwing a random tantrum, instead of giving him or her at once the thing that he or she wants, tell the child to calm down, tell him or her that he or she does not need to cry or shout or to even hurt people in order to get what ... Japanese Samurai Film Genre Essays The Seven Samurai directed by Akira Kurosawa uses many film techniques and features of the Japanese samurai film genre to engage and influence the viewing audience. The Japanese samurai film genre focuses on the physical martial arts, and is very similar to American westerns. These films are usually set in the Tokugawa era and the main characters are samurai, or Ronin. The Seven Samurai is a stereotypical Japanese samurai movie set in the Tokugawa era about a village full of farmers who hire seven samurai to protect their village from a group of bandits. In the film when the farmers are walking around the town looking for samurai to help their village it is easy for the farmers and also the viewing audience to tell the difference between the samurai and the peasants. The samurai walk around with pride, they have their chest up and are look above the crowd as if they should not be there with the peasants, and the peasants are hunched over looking at the floor. When the farmers go to the village in search of samurai, Rikichi, one of the farmers, gets down on his knees and begs for the samurai to help his village, many of the samurai just walked past him without blinking an eye, they should not be dealing with peasants, they are superior, they should be answering to lords not peasants. All samurai even Ronin are seen as socially superior and they act that way as well, most of them wouldn t work for the farmers. The samurai thought they shouldn t be employed by mere peasants and that they should work for lords and shoguns. Endings were usually described as bitter sweet as life goes on in the face of tragedy. This feature of the samurai film genre focuses on the end of the film, the endings are usually have someone or a number of important people die, the bitter part, but the main antagonist is also captured or killed, the sweet part. • 11. User Authentication in Computer Security 1 INTRODUCTION User authentication is a most important component in most computer security. It provides user with access control and user accountability. As we know there are many types of user authentication systems in the market but alphanumerical username/passwords are the most common type of user authentication. They are many and easy to implement and use. Due to the limitation of human memory, most users tend to choose short or simple passwords which are easy to remember. Surveys show that frequent passwords are personal names of family members, birth date, or dictionary words. In most cases, these passwords are easy to guess and vulnerable to dictionary attack. Today users have many passwords for personal computers, social networks, E mail, and more. They may decide to use one password for all systems to decrease the memory burden, which reduce security. Graphical passwords is harder to guess or broken by brute force. If the number of possible pictures is sufficiently large, the possible password space of a graphical pass word scheme may exceed that of text based schemes and thus most probably offer improved security against dictionary attacks. The use of graphical password methods is gaining awareness because of these advantages. Graphical passwords were originally described by Blonder. In his description, an image would appear on the screen, and the user would click on a few chosen regions of it. If the correct regions were clicked in, the user would be ... Horatio s Disappearance Of Ghosts Regarding the ghost s regular appearance at 1 am, I have two hunches: First, the ghost may be appearing at that time to make clear that his presence is real and not a figment of the imagination. In Act I, he appears when Horatio s shift begins. This might be so Horatio can see him first hand, seeing that Horatio is the only watchman Hamlet will actually believe. Second, the ghost may be appearing at such hour because ghosts are not allowed to be out in daylight. • 15. The Conflict Between Ralph And Jack The conflict between Ralph and Jack shows how lack of civilization can result to savagery. Ralph states, We need shelters contrasting to Jack who says, We need meat (Golding, p.42). The lack of civilization in Jack shows because he thinks hunting is more important than shelters although he has yet to catch a pig, while on the other hand Ralph thinks it s more important to build shelter for a sense of home and protection from the rain and the beastie that all the littluns are afraid of. Let him be chief with the trumpet thing (Golding, p. 15). This quote states that Ralph should be in charge because he has the conch, and Jack gets upset since he is not voted chief but then Ralph puts him charge of the choir boys who later on become the hunters. Ralph creates civilization when he is given power to become the chief on the island, and he has the power with or without the conch. Later in the novel when Ralph realizes he doesn t like being dirty and disliked perpetually flicking the tangled hair put of his eyes, it shows that Ralph is used the civilization he had before and wants to return to that civilization (Golding, p.66). Then Jack becomes an example of savagery when he shows up to the fire in chapter 8, stark naked save for the paint and a belt (Golding, p.125).
