Different Classes, Different Conditions
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of
any kind, such as race, color, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin,
property, birth or other status, is what the Article 2 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
stating. This statement tries to encourage people to dismiss any discrepancy between human beings
and try to make a world where this statement comes as truth to everyone. However, this is not a

500 tumans for the life and virginity of an innocent girl (145,146). This was about women s virginity
bought for almost no cost. This was totally an unfair treatment since they didn t do the same thing to
men. If a man was going to be executed, its virginity would not be taken before execution. This
tradition of not killing women who was virgin was just made to fulfill men s sexual desire. The dowry
system was just a way to free the feeling of guilt that the men might feel and made them to ease. Also,
the restriction on fashion was unfair for women. There were no restrictions for the men on fashion.
Men were allowed to wear whatever they wanted unless it fell under the standards of Iranian
government. However, women s restrictions on fashion were stricter compared to men. Women had to
wear veil. They weren t allowed to wear tight jeans. They weren t allowed to wear jewelries. In
addition, women were not allowed to receive the same education as men. They were restricted from
learning higher level of education and they were not allowed to be educated in the same place. Due to
the Cultural Revolution, boys and girls were educated in a different school which taught had a
different curriculum. Girls weren t able to attend universities. Women were treated unfairly because
they didn t get to study the same thing as men, which violated the right to gain education. In short,
women should not have different standards from the society which caused them to lose

Helicopter Parent Research Paper
College is typically the prime of a young adult s life, it s where students get their first taste of freedom
and have a newfound independence and although this is what most teenagers so strongly desire, there
are some who do not know how to properly handle the world alone. These people are those with
helicopter parents. Helicopter parents are parents who, like their nickname, are always hovering over
their children to protect them and make sure all their needs are being met. These parents usually go far
beyond just being an attentive parent, so much so that they fully involve themselves in the lives of
their child, making it their duty for their child to succeed in any way possible. Helicopter parenting
also appears to be on the rise and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most research evidence is supporting the idea that helicopter parenting is harmful. It s clear that there
has been changes in recent years with students and the common factor happens to be helicopter
parenting. Mothers and fathers are their raising children that have had their abilities and self assurance
stripped away to be held by them. Being loving and supportive is also not enough to help reverse the
damage done by the smothering involvement so, no matter how helicopter parents go about managing
their children, they re still managing their children. The only way to solve this problem is for parents
to learn how to let go and find other ways to engage with their child without controlling them, they
must put their trust in them and believe that the young adult they raised is as talented and gifted
enough of a person as they believe them to

Bilbo Journey Essay
Bilbo has changed into a different hobbit since he left for his adventure. Before he left, Bilbo wanted
nothing more than to stay in the comforts of his hobbit hole, but afterwards he was more willing to
abandon comfort for more adventures. The hobbit was not at all willing for adventure in the beginning
since Gandalf, a wizard, practically tricked him into going on the trip, but after getting the thrill of
adventure, Bilbo was more open to venturing outside his hobbit hole. On the journey, the company
came across many creatures and with these encounters, Bilbo became more open to different creatures
than only meeting visitors that came to his hobbit hole. With these encounters, however, the hobbit
obtained a sense of confidence when meeting adversity. Prior to Bilbo s departure, when Gandalf
initially offered the hobbit an adventure, he kept repeating, we don t want any adventures here, thank
you as he attempted to try and send Gandalf on his way. While Gandalf and the dwarves were
planning their journey, upon hearing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, those creatures that threatened his life, allowed him to build his confidence. Before, Bilbo
was just a scared hobbit who was frightened at the thought of just a small scope of the things he would
experience. Meeting the giant spider, changed him and the feeling of standing a chance against his
adversity gave him a sense of confidence and strength. Somehow the killing of a giant spider, all alone
by himself in the dark without the help of a wizard or the dwarves or anyone else, made a great
difference to Mr. Baggins. He felt a different person, and much fiercer and bolder in spite of an empty
stomach as he wiped his sword on the grass and put it back into its sheath. This feeling of a more
confident person allowed him to be braver and more courageous against his enemies rather than
cowering and being scared out of his wits in

Nicole Curtis who is popularly known for her association with Rehab addict is taking rounds of the

The Model Of Organizational Therapy
There are many different conceptual models available to occupational therapists today. These include
the Canadian model of occupational performance and engagement (CMOP E), the Model of Human
Occupation (MOHO), the biomechanics model, the Kawa model and the rehabilitation model. These
are very important to the profession and in guiding the occupational therapy process. The focus of this
essay will mainly be on the MOHO. The occupational therapy process is the client centred delivery of
occupational therapy services. (AOTA, 2008) There are many variations to the occupational therapy
process and how it is carried out but it does have a clear beginning point and stages throughout the
process. These are evaluation, intervention, revaluation and therapy outcomes. Evaluation (often
called assessment) is the gathering and analysing of information whose results are used by the
occupational therapist to organise and administer interventions to to help clients in changing their
occupational performance in a positive way. Intervention is the application of actions aimed at aiding

framework for explaining something of importance to occupational therapy practice and for providing

professional status, occupational therapists must make use of theory to aid their practice and decision

Traditional Families Vs Single Parent Families
Traditional families versus single parent families. A traditional family household is a household with
two parents, mother and father. A single parent family household is a one parent household a mother,
or father. This household is usually occurs when a parent dies, parents divorce, or the parents was
never married and separated after having a child together. The question at hand is would a child be
more successful and mentally stable in life growing up in a traditional family household, or single
parenting household? This has been an intriguing argument for many years. I strongly believe a child
in a single parent home could grow up to be just as emotionally stable and also be just as successful as
a child who grows up with both parents.
Many children in today s society have grown to become successful and mentally stable whether they
had two parents, or one parent raise them. With everything in life it is never about quantity, but
quality. This could apply to single parenting as well. As long as a parent create a stable and nurturing
home their child will grow up to be a mature, hard working, independent, and loving adult. Family
structure should not be the main focus when it comes to raising children, the focus should be on the
values and life lessons that are taught to the child as they mature in life. Family structure in the last
decade have change drastically. Children are being raised by same sex parents, grandparents, extended
family, a single father, or a single

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty Short Story
A Societal Breakthrough Two men walk into a crowded bar, one man carrying a pencil and paper, and
the other carrying a wooden carving. Both men posses an item and foreshadowed talent of artistic
value, yet are vulnerable to so many new ideas, some of which could be shared by the stranger across
the room from them. In the short stories The Secret Life of Walter Mitty written by James Thurber and
Uncle Marcos written by Isabel Allende, the main characters share many similar traits and endurances.
Additionally, each of the intelligent and curious characters behold the possibility to learn from each
other. Endless knowledge, experience, and magical abilities can be shared when two people connect,
as is the case with two essential characters within a story. Isabel Allende and James Thurber created
two magnificent characters, both comparable in concept and exceedingly complex in interpretation. In
the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty the text reads, Once he had tried to take his chains off,
outside New Milford, and he got them wound around the axles, (Thurber 126 127). Walter Mitty is a
profound man, though, in some ways, his life is too good to be true. Walter resembles Uncle Marcos,
in that the two characters continually try to outsmart civilizations, act wild, yet gain appreciation from
their peers, and achieve the ever changing goals of a human being. Although, plans fade and ideas fall
through, revealing shy and timid characters. Uncle Marcos yearns for

Portrayal Of Women In The Media
Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, and Eartha Kitt are famously known for their hourglass figures. Years
ago, women were celebrated for their natural curvy figures. Today, if you turn on the television or
open a magazine, one comes face to face with unrealistically thin models. This epidemic has increased
the number of women who are dissatisfied with their bodies. This paper will assess several articles,
literature reviews, and papers that relate to the media s portrayal of the ideal women s body being
extremely thin. Each source elaborates on the dissatisfaction women have with their bodies as a result
of the content released in the media. Irving (2008) defines media as a Tool used to transmit ideas,
images, messages, or information to the public. The media strategically targets adolescent females.
This is specifically ages 13 18 (Steinberg Morris, 2001). During these precious years of life,
adolescents go through periods of struggle with identity. The most prominent struggle is understanding
their role in society, and conforming to social norms. Media today offers a distorted vision of the
world, and therefore makes it difficult for adolescents to decipher what is actually realistic (Van
Vonderen Kinnally, 2012). Present day, the media has easily become the most influential factor of our
culture. For instance, when a news story, product, or service needs to be publicized where do
individuals turn? Social media, television, and magazines have become the

An Article On Lightning Strikes
While reading an article in the National Geographic magazine, I then learned about lightning strikes.
When lightning strikes it produces hundreds of millions of volts this is more electricity that could be
produced by all U.S. generators combined during that instant. However, since the flash of the
lightning is so brief that the electric energy that it strikes would only power a light bulb for about a
month. As a thundercloud fills with air, rising ice crystals collide with falling hailstones. The ice is
then strjpped by the hail strips. The top of the cloud becomes predominantly positive and the bottom
mostly negative, with scattered positive areas at its base. The negative charges in the lower cloud
induce a positive region. Static ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many physical traits that differ from humans to squids. First of being, one of the cockeyed
squid s eyes is bulging, big, and yellow. However, the other is flat and beady. A question that is
constantly brought up, why is there a difference between the two eyes? In order for people to be able
to truly see what these squids look like, an institution MBARI have been dropping robotic submarines
down to see this cockeyed squid in action. Katie Thomas found in one of the footages that the squid
swims with its left eye angle upward and their tiny right eye angled downwards. There was another
physical difference the left eye was big and bulging, as well as, yellow. Although the younger squids
did not have the yellow color in their eye. Humans eyes carry pigment in the iris. The squid eye differs
in that their yellow pigment is right in the lens. These squids do not have corneas, so instead the lens
stick directly out of the eye. The lens of the smaller eye is perfectly clear. An interesting fact that I
learned was the yellow lenses may help the squid see prey swimming overhead. Some animals have
some sort of camouflage, but the yellow lenses can help predators help see through that camouflage.
Also, an upward allows the squid to scan for prey that light up to camouflage themselves against the
sunlight. The beady, downward facing eye allows for the squid to see creatures lighting up in the
darkness. If

The Theory Of Democratic Peace
The Theory of Democratic Peace has been a topic of much debate over the years. Why is this? There
are many opinions on this theory and many questions are raised when speaking about it. The argument
that I pose is, is there such a thing as democratic peace? In order to address my argument and in order
to critically analyse Democratic Peace Theory, this piece of academic writing will look at a variety of
causes that some theorists state are behind the Democratic Peace Theory and will look at the different
branches of the theory. Firstly it will look at what ideology the theory can be drawn from and how the
two can link together to prove that democratic peace can exist. Secondly it will look at if the theory
has helped the spreading of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, this theory makes the assumption that if there is a war between two countries, it will be
between one that is democratic and one that is not. There has been some evidence that no two
democratic countries have ever been to war, if we are talking about war in the sense of military action
(Griffiths et al., 2008). For example, 353 pairs of states engaged in wars between 1816 1991 and none
was between two democracies: 155 pairs involved a democracy and a non democratic country, and
198 involved two non democratic states fighting each other (Griffiths et al., 2008). A reason for why
democratic peace theorists stress that democratic states fight with only non democratic states is due to
the reason that, they may be dangerous because they seek other ends, such as conquest or plunder
(Owen 1994). When did the theory originate? Democratic Peace Theory, as it came to be known,
emerged as a robust research programme in the post Cold War years (Daddow, 2013). According to
Rosato (2003), the theory is probably the most powerful liberal contribution to the debate on the
causes of war and peace (p.585)
Now let s talk about the ideology that the theory can be drawn from and let s see how the ideology and
the theory can be linked together to help prove that some sort of democratic peace can and does exist.
Liberalism, an ideology that focuses mainly on the individual, but has other key features such

Compare and Contrast Two Main Model of Brief Therapy Essay...
Modern day counselling is equipped with a wide variety of therapies, techniques and approaches. The
purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast two approaches of therapy. Also in this essay the
views of the person and the Therapeutic process will be discussed. The two models that are going to

Brief therapy (SFBT).
This essay is going to highlight the similarly and differences of the models and their main focus, and

models is to help people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the how stage. How will the client move forward with the goals that they have identified in the
previous stage? The counsellor will assist the client in finding ways of achieving their goals and how
to focus on those that are practical in terms of the client situation and needs. The basic goals in the
skilled helper model is relating to the clients is managing their lives more effectively and general
ability to manage problems and develop opportunities. The view of the client in this model is that they
are central to the therapy. (The client is the focus and the theory is the background and to use the
model for the client, rather thee reverse).
These stages outlines what the client needs to do in order to manage a problem or develop an
opportunity, clients don`t always take one step after another they can move back and forth in the
stages. The stages are not always sequential they are stepping stones towards the accomplishment of
reaching a goal. Working with Gerald Egan the Skilled Helper Model also allows the client to moves

active interpreters of the world around them, the Skilled Helper Model gives meaning to action, event
and situations by facing and overcoming challenges exploring problems seeking new opportunities

Today s Unrealistic Body Expectations
Modern society portrays good looking men to have broad shoulders, toned arms, six pack abs, and a
small waist while good looking women are viewed to have the characteristics of being slim and fit,
having a small waist, lean hips, and perfect skin complexion. As a result, many people are affected by
our own society s portrayals of good looking men and women that they feel pressured into doing
whatever it takes and going through extreme measures, most of the time, spending countless hours in
the gym trying to achieve that perfect body. Body image is evident in the gym, as the men are lifting
weights they are frequently looking in the mirror examining every angle of their body making sure no
area is lacking muscle. On the other hand, women tend to partake in the same behavior as men,
showing a sense of insecurity about their own bodies, frequently making trips to the scale to keep
track of their weight making sure to stay slim and fit. Society has a profound effect on many people,
making them feel insecure about their own bodies. The mass media s use of such unrealistic images
sends an implicit message to men and women that to be considered good looking they must partake in
unhealthy diets, extreme exercises and unhealthy body modification enhancers, which in turn can have
detrimental effects on one s health. Such standards of beauty and appearance are almost completely
unattainable for most men and women and most of the models displayed on television and in

Racism and slavery is the main theme of the book.
The book .....
I feel like the word ¨nigger¨ is in the book for a reason. Mark Twain put the word in there to get the
readers attention, which it does.
I think Huckleberry Finn shows the possibility of making genuine moral changes in a world that is
dominated in racism and other forms of human foolishness.
After reading the book I would definitely recommend it to others. Although it was quite hard to read
because of the old fashioned grammar, it s still worth it.

boy who is trying to escape his abusive father. Huckleberry Finn is quite young, he s about thirteen or

doing pretty much whatever he wants. He is very good at outdoor things like hunting, fishing and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The South In The Civil War
Compare the advantages and disadvantages of the South and the North in the Civil War. Was a
northern victory inevitable? Why? The North had the advantage over the South due to having more
resources, manufacturing and shipping.
There were many advantages of the North and South in the Civil war. The advantages for the North
were that they had all the manufacturing and the ports for shipping. The North had access to all of the
natural resources required to manufacture weapons. The North had railroads for shipping which was
important for supplying the troops of food and weapons as well as transporting the injured. In
addition, the North had well trained federal soldiers and better troops. They had a larger population
and had more factories/industries. They were known as more powerful because they had more money,

Radio Frequency Identification Is Important For Airport...
abrownBUS310_101615. Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) should implement
radio frequency identification (RFID) tags in the airport s baggage handling operations for a variety of
reasons. First, implementing this system will be beneficial to airport workers, travelers, and the
airlines. Second, the cost of lost luggage fees and millions of dollars being spent in reimbursements
will be significantly reduced. Third, the overall control of luggage will be more efficient and effective.
Fourth, traveler satisfaction will improve, as the luggage process will be hassle free. In order for the
RFID tagging system to properly function, it is important for the airport to make an effective plan.
Planning which is, choosing a goal and developing a strategy to achieve that goal, (Williams, 2015,
p.4) is an approach that will benefit all involved. In this case specifically, it will benefit the airport
workers, travelers, and the airlines themselves. The amount of customer service representatives it
takes to handle all aspects of the baggage process is very large. From customer service representatives
taking complaints, to tracking and identifying lost luggage, you name it, it is imperative to have a staff
member available at all times. Today s automated baggage handling systems play a critical role in
alleviating the pressures played on ground support personnel and in helping them increase customer
satisfaction (Heacock, 2005, p.1). With this, implementing RFID s in

Entertainment During The Great Depression Essay
The average person working in the movie business in the 1930s made about $92,500 as someone
working a moderate job only made about $890 a year, equally (COH) about $12,500 today.
Throughout the Great Depression entertainment was an escape for people in America, which still
continues to be used today.
During the Great Depression entertainment such as movies, music/radio, and dancing provided people
with and escape from the harsh realities of what was going on around them. As for movies, while
(SUB) people in the 1930s were struggling because of their loss of jobs. Hollywood had entered what

consisted of people and new movies flourishing due to people s lack of work and extra free time,
popular examples of movies include: Snow White and the Seven dwarfs, The Wizard of Oz , King
Kong, Frankenstein , and Dracula. New people, specifically child star Shirley Temple ( The 1930s 1)
played a key role by influencing the younger population. Even though movies were popular, they had
to appeal to a mass audience in order to stay running ( The 1930s 1), in that sense cartoons and family
friendly movies we re most popular. The air conditioned theaters also provided people with a luxury

David Hume s Definition Of Free Will
What is free will? The general concept of free will is the ability to make choices of your own without
anyone or anything impeding them which, consequently, makes you morally responsible. Free will,
however, is non existent. This is explained with the theory of determinism and solidified via hard
determinism. Our actions and behavior can be traced to our desires and beliefs which are directly
caused by our genetics and environment. There are many stances and arguments against this idea but
ultimately do not dissuade against it. There are many beliefs as to what free will is, and many have
tried to establish its meaning. David Hume believes it is the ability to act on your beliefs and desires
and as your beliefs and desires change, so does your behavior. The problem with Hume s definition is
that those with compulsory disorders and addictions have free will according to that definition. Harry
Frankfurt believes that if first and second order desires are in agreement then you have free will. The
problem with Frankfurt s definition is that the addicts that do not have a conflicting order of desires
have free will according to the definition and those who are weak willed do not have free will. The
general explanation of free will discussed in the introduction is what will be used, seeing that the ones

To think that it is free will and nothing else, is ignorance. Human life throughout history is known for
adaptation, to create solutions to problems created by the harshness of its environment so it can

reevaluates its environment, possible outcomes, benefits, and, depending on the capacity of the

What Do Brevard County Residents Believe The Environmental...
Research Question To what extent do Brevard County residents believe the Environmental Protection
Agency s laws, in place, are effectively written and enforced to protect wetlands from landfills?
On Florida s Space Coast in Brevard County, the main landfill that is located on Sarno Road, is
expected to exceed capacity within the next five years. Another large landfill, located in the north area
of the county is expected to exceed capacity within the next twenty years. Because of the current need
to fulfill the waste management needs for over Brevard County, the county has formulated a proposal
to put the first cell of a Class III or construction and demolition waste, landfill, that will service
Brevard County for about sixty years with the prospect of adding a more cells. This landfill will be
located on land 2700 feet north of US 192, just east of the Brevard and Osceola County border on land
the county forced the Deseret cattle ranchers to sell as a public necessity, more than two decades ago,
in 1991. The land was purchased for over ten million dollars by Brevard County and hundreds of
thousands of dollars has been spent by the county in court, on 134 wetland credits that were required
to be purchased by the county, by the state, outside research, maintaining the land, and the drafting of
the landfill proposal itself . The three thousand acres of land bought by the county currently
encompasses wetlands, pastures, and a grazing area that is roughly half of the size

Social Civilization In Korea
The Japanese colonization of Korea made Koreans an easy target of exploitation. Since Japan was in a
great need of cheap labor, Korean workers were recruited during 1920s. In this essay, I am going to
discuss the significance of institutional racial discrimination targeted towards Korean workers in
interwar Japan as a tool of alienation and exploitation. One of the abiding discernments formed in Karl
Marx s Capital is that in the colonies of capitalist nation states the apparitions of the law of the supply
and demand of labor are crushed. In the home country, the magnificent allurement of capitalist
production can be found in its capability to reproduce the wage laborer by regularly setting him or her
free, firing him or her and by creating a surplus population that rests in approximate exteriority to
capitalist manufacturing as the prerequisite for the commodification of labor power. Regularly
handling labor power as a expendable commodity is hence the way capitalist manufacturing can
assure that its most nonexpendable commodity labor power is constantly there by the time capitalist
manufacturing encounters so called labor shortages during industrial expansion. It is this reproductive
apparatus that enables the smug knavery of the Japanese colonial policymaker to envision and to
formalize into normalized principles of economic shift, that owners of labor power who are de facto
impelled to enter into a relationship of reliance with the wage form can take part in

The Boy On The Wooden Box
Surviving The War Could you ever picture yourself being in one of the World Wars? Well, neither did
Leon Leyson. I chose the novel The Boy On The Wooden Box for my independent reading project.
The book is about a young boy surviving through a killer war. Leon was a Holocaust survivor and the
youngest boy on Schindler s List. Leon wrote the book The Boy On The Wooden Box in 2013, with
the help of Marilyn J. Harran and Elisabeth B. Leyson, sixty four years after Leon arrived in the
United States. World War Two affected millions of people and it is very important that stories from the
war are shared.
In the beginning of the war Leon and his family lived in Kraków, Poland. Leon had four siblings, their
names were: Hershel, Tsalig, David, and Pesza. Leon came from a jewish family, which would not
work in their favor during the Holocaust. Once the war started Leon and his family were transferred
into the ghetto. The ghetto was a fenced in minature town, that was made by the Germans and was
placed in the center of Kraków. All of the Jews were forced to live in the ghetto. After the war Pesza
and David moved to Czechoslovakia, Israel, while Leon and his parents immigrated to America. Leon
and his parents spent years in a United Nations relief organization camp in Germany while waiting to
go to America. The camp was for Jews who were trying to make it to the United States, after the war
ended. At the camp Leon changed his name from Leib Lejzon to the American

America s Rights Or Venice Beaches Women s Choice For Life
If one were to research the number of social change groups in America, the results would be endless.
Searching for a group focused on say Abortion rights will not simply come up with one monopolized
group. In fact, there will be thousands upon thousands of results. These groups don t see typically see
themselves as representing all people and all of their respected rights, it is much more specific. These
groups want to focus on Central Austin s women s rights or Venice Beaches Women s choice for life.
Why is this? Why are there so many social change groups in America and how did this all start? The

For, if they were to individually oppose the abuse, no one would believe them. No one would believe
a man that only two weeks prior was a slave and considered less than human. This was a discussion
that many people were having all over the country, as they were wondering if the freedom of blacks
actually meant freedom. In later years and as time progressed, many social change groups were
formed as a result. The social change movements of this time consisted of black men trying to obtain
the right to vote. There were others that focused on a black mans right to own property and land, and
others focusing on women s needs. As one can see, there isn t a blanket group that can cover the needs

accomplished enough to believe that they could fight for the civil rights of every American in the
country, they wouldn t be able to succeed without the help of smaller, local groups. The purpose of
these groups is to be able to reach out to people on a comfortable level. People tend to find their
homes, workplaces, and towns as comfortable places to express who they truly are. As a local social

Sexual Objectification in Music Videos and How Adolescents Are Affected
Lauren Faron, Aynsley Fishel, Nisha Patel, Menelik Solomon
The Ohio State University
Music videos are easily accessible to everyone, especially adolescents. From its earliest origins on TV
to recent upgrades to technology on the internet, such as YouTube, anyone can watch music videos at
any time of the day. Online music video sites draw an average of 150 million people each month who
view more than two billion videos per day (Mischner, Schie, Wigboldus, Baaren, Engels, 2013).
Sexually objectifying music videos have increased in the last couple of decades. With this, more
adolescents are being influenced by viewing these videos and mostly all of them are affected in some
way, either positive or negative. What a lot of people do not know is what is happening to adolescents
after viewing these types of music videos and how it can lead to concerning effects later in
development.
Literature Review
Adolescence is a crucial time in the lives of young boys and girls, especially when it comes to viewing
music videos. A survey showing that 78% of girls 12 19 years old watch MTV regularly, making them
the most frequent viewers at around 6.4 hours a week (Bell, Lawton, Dittmar, 2007). This is important
because it brings into light the idea of girls watching these sexually objectifying videos and how they
experience body dissatisfaction. Body dissatisfaction is a

Comparing Perks Of Being A Wallflower And The Catcher In...
In both Steven Chbosky and J.D. Salinger s coming of age novels The Perks of Being a Wallflower
and The Catcher in the Rye both authors successfully explore the idea of entering adulthood as an
outsider. The Perks of Being a Wallflower follows a fifteen year old boy, Charlie. Charlie has recently
lost his best friend Michael to suicide and is struggling to come to terms with his death. He is in his
freshman year of high school and struggles to fit in socially, until he meets a group of seniors who
take him under their wing and introduce him to a world he could never imagine. Written in the form of

Although the reader is never told who the letters are written to, Charlie starts each letter with Dear
Friend... . He states at the start of the novel that I am writing to you because she said you listen and
understand...Please don t try to figure out who she is because then you might figure out who I am, and
I really don t want you to do that... (1.3) whilst Charlie does not give the reader a clear explanation on
who this anonymous person may be; the audience can make the assumption that perhaps Charlie is
writing these letters to help him understand his feelings. Charlies raw and honest narration of the
problems he encounters, and his dark thoughts throughout his first year of high school allows the
reader to empathise with Charlie. This behaviour is often typical for high school aged students, as they
tend to find it easier to communicate with each other when it is not face to face. The emotions that
Charlie feels are also common for this age group, allowing the intended audience to relate to Charlie,
and engage with the narrative. Likewise, in The Catcher in the Rye first person perspective is used to
allow the reader to have direct access to the main protagonist: Holden s thoughts. Holden s honest
narration gives the reader a perspective into his world and the way he comprehends it. In Holden s
narration, Salinger uses a flashback of a momentous time of his life, when he spent three days and
nights by himself in New York City.

Identifying Covalent, Ionic And Hydrogen Bonds
After completing the lab, we will be able to identify covalent, ionic, and hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen
bonds are the weakest between all the three types of bonds we will be observing and it occurs between
hydrogen and oxygen atom or nitrogen atom; hydrogen bonds are a type of dipole dipole bond. A
dipole dipole interaction occurs because of polar molecules. We should know that the bond between
hydrogen and oxygen in a water molecule is covalent. Another example, of covalent bond is the bond
between all the atoms that compose ethane. Another objective that we will observe is solubility, the
lab mentions. An example, of an ionic bond is NaCl, this is an ionic bond because the Na+ and Cl , the

molecules. To observe adhesion and cohesion, we will pipette a drop of water on a piece of parafilm;
we will be looking for if they water will be stuck together or did it spread apart, we will be explaining

pilot is misunderstood because they are away from their families and have a very high divorce rate.
Due to the the divorce rate statistic they are often believed to be cheaters , or unloyal to their spouse.

The Japanese Criminal Justice System
For some time now, the Japanese criminal justice system has been regarded or perceived to be a
successful justice system model. The success is mainly attributed to Japan s culture and even
embedded in the language itself (Goold, 2004). The success has drawn interest among criminology
scholars and practitioners either for the purpose of broadening their knowledge or to emulate its
criminal justice system (Ebbe, 2000). The interest is based on statistical data that indicate low levels
of criminality in the developed nation of Japan in comparison to others. From these statistics, it would
imply that Japan s way of dealing with crime is more effective in its prevention. While the statistic
might be solid, the texts on the criminal system may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The benefits of this kind of success are sure to be present and for that matter welcomed. However, I
will also evaluate at what cost that this haven of peace comes about. Clear examples will accompany
any argument and statements as support of a claim.
The history of Japan s criminal justice system is important if one wishes to understand completely
how the system operates and borrow from it. Before the Second World War, Japan was mostly isolated
from the rest of the world except for some trading activities with Portugal. Due to this Western or
rather European, the influence in the country was minimal. Japan was, therefore, able to retain some
of its strong traditional legal systems despite incorporating some aspects from the French, Chinese,
and Americans.
However; after WWII, Japan was forced to adopt the American legal approaches to the constitution
and human rights due to the post war agreement that was signed (Reichel, 2002). The Japanese
however did not abandon their systems all together as they continued to use the informal ways of
conflict resolution through mediation, consensus, and compromise. The formal systems were then
used in combination with these. Aside from the informal procedures used by police and citizens to
resolve disputes, the Japanese system have a highly centralised and organised criminal justice system
(Dammer, Albanese, 2013). To Australian s it resembles something of a familiar system with two
national policing agencies, a hierarchical

Bilingualism Myths
There are many myths about bilingualism having negative effects. One of those myths are that babies
are hopelessly confused by exposure to two languages. However, studies have proven that learning
more than one language as an infant is actually very beneficial and not difficult to do. According to
Judith F. Kroll, babies develop the ability to discriminate the languages that they listen to and are more
open to learning a new language. A study by Ferran Pons and other colleagues, revealed how bilingual
children show an earlier attentional shift to the mouth. This is due to the fact that bilingual infants rely
more on the perceptual salient of audiovisual speech cues in order to to construct two different

good time for them to do so. This program could also inform them about the other benefits of
bilingualism throughout an individual s life span. Lastly, it would be more beneficial to inform them
about all the other benefits as well because the parents or future parents will be able to see how

Without herbicides, the most widely used class of pesticides in the United States, crop production and

chance of diseases (which the rodents and insects carry with them). It also ensures the healthiness of

The Role Of The Supernatural In Richard III
The supernatural is a prevalent force throughout all of Shakespeare s plays, from his comedies to his
tragedies. What often varies, however, is the reason behind the supernatural. Is it a figment of the
imagination or is it real? Is it caused by psychological guilt or are the dead out for revenge? More
often than not, the supernatural are used as propaganda to affirm a monarch s position on the throne.
Particularly, I argue that Shakespeare uses ghosts in Richard III to rewrite history for the current
reigning monarch, a motif which he then repeats in Macbeth. Richard III s ghosts are not nearly as
present as the ghosts in Macbeth. They only show up once in a dream sequence, cementing them
firmly as figments of Richard s mind. It is telling then that the only time when ghosts do show up,
they condone Richard III and hope for Richmond s success. Specifically, even Richard s closest allies
have turned on him: O in the battle think on Buckingham/And die in terror of thy guiltiness
(Shakespeare, Richard III 5.5.123 4). In other words, Buckingham the man who was by Richard s side
up until the fourth act, where he suddenly gained a conscience thinks Richard deserves to die for his
tyrannical rule. What does it say when even your confidantes have turned on you? It certainly cements
the idea that Richard s rule was horrible and destructive, which really was not all that true. In fact,
Richard supposedly had solid administrative skills but he was often portrayed as the

Japanese prints; he used the layout and formatting of the ukiyo e prints in his own prints. Toulouse
Lautrec mimicked many of the lines and areas of flat color of ukiyo e prints in his prints (3). Degas
did not focus on having solid lines; he would use many shorter lines to created contours that have

interest in shadows is seen in his use of pastels where the contours become the colored shading. When

What Does Lagom Mean
Lagom is a Swedish word that is often translated as just the right amount. But, such a simple
translation fails to do it justice. It is a rich, nuanced word imbued with meaning from a long cultural
tradition of espousing moderation, among other things. It is captured more accurately by expressions
like less is more and All things in moderation, even moderation. It is used to suggest or describe
personal restraint in comportment, best fit and appropriateness. One legendary explanation of its
meaning is that it is rooted in the Viking practice of passing around a horn of mead to share. You were
encouraged to drink a lagom amount, which could be translated as your fair share. It is an amount that
doesn t short you, but also doesn t short ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is all about conserving energy and resources instead of going the extra mile. It suggests a judicious
use of time, energy, money and other resources. In an increasingly overcrowded world with
environmental distress, this might well be the healthiest trend we could embrace. Taking only our fair
share may be the best way to ensure that there is enough to go around. Lagom is being called the one
word that sums up the Swedish psyche. It describes a new trend hitting the U.K. and the U.S. which
embraces the Swedish culture of all things in moderation, AKA less is

Odysseus As A Good Role Model In Homer s The Odyssey
The mythical journey of The Odyssey shows how a true leader and good role model should be. The
Odyssey was told centuries ago by a man named Homer. The Odyssey is about a man named
Odysseus who is traveling with his shipmates back home to Ithaca after the Trojan War, but he is
facing many difficulties and deadly obstacles in his path to return back home. Meanwhile in his
homeland of Ithaca, his wife Penelope is being greeted by suitors who want to be Penelope s husband
because they think Odysseus is dead. Despite all his hardships, Odysseus maintains a heroic attitude
and still tries to make back home to Ithaca. Odysseus is a good role model because he is genuine
intelligent with his decisions and brave as the captain of his ship. Firstly, one of Odysseus s
characteristics of being a good role model is that he was very intelligent and has smart decisive
decisions. During his journey, Odysseus is trapped in a cave with a cyclops named Polyphemus. While
in the cave, Polyphemus moved a boulder in the way of the entrance. Odysseus needed a strategic
move to get the boulder out of the way. Odysseus gives Polyphemus a bunch of wine to make him
pass out. While Polyphemus is passed out, he and his men grab a big stick and stick it right in

During his trip down to Hades to hear the Prophecy of Tiresias, he has to travel to the underworld and
sees skeletons and his mom. Hearing the prophecy that he will have a long way to go to get back home
and he will arrive home alone, he stays calm and leaves Hades. Most people would have been scared
to go down to the underworld. Many people are frightened of dead things moving. Also, the skeletons
could have grabbed Odysseus s body and made him stuck in the underworld forever. He could of gone
down to Hades and been cursed to stay down in Hades forever. But Odysseus remain calm and he
shows bravery as he was traveling to a scary

The Extent to Which Official Crime Statistics Provides a Reliable Estimate of the Amount of Crime
Committed in England and Wales
The Criminal Justice System is an area of the English Legal System that strikes a balance between
punishing the guilty and protecting the innocent. This balance has been the subject of much debate in
the last 20 years because there has been a large number of miscarriages of justice, where innocent
citizens/ people are sent to prison. This then suggested that the system had tipped this balance too far
and was greatly engaged in proving guilt. Examples of high profile cases that show some of these
miscarriages of justice are , The Birmingham Six and The Guilford Four. The ... Show more content

These sources of media all contribute to crime and the fear of crime that usually relates to personal
safety. Research have shown that this fear is especially high in the elderly, female and ethnic minority
groups. So the higher the crime rate the higher the fear of crime. It is also important to question the
authenticity of crimes reported by the media has enough evidence been carried out before the crimes
were published?.
Official statistics on crime are published annually in the UK, and provide two main kind of
information: the number of crimes committed, as a whole and by type of crime; and certain
characteristics such as sex and age, of convicted offender.
The British Crime Survey (BCS) is a yearly survey that collects data on crimes in England and Wales.
This data is collected through randomly sent out questionnaires. There are also the Homes Office
Figures which record all crimes reported to police. BCS figures include non reported crimes, while the
Home Office includes only crimes reported. A number of studies have shown that majority of crimes
which take place are not reported to the police. According to the BCS, the main reasons for not
reporting are that the police would not be able to do anything about it. People also tend to report
crimes where

Ancient Greek And Roman Empires Essay
Most of the history of the past that is known today has been gathered from primary sources of the
times of interest such as original documents and objects. It is through these sources that historians are
able to gain an in depth, and maybe sometimes biased, view into the lives of the people of the time
and what was going on in the period. Despite being two vastly different genres of primary sources,
Cicero s letters and Homer s epic poem The Odyssey, give some of the best ideas into life for the
ancient Greek and Roman empires. Through analysis of these two works, some key similarities and
differences of how both empires functioned are brought to light. During Odysseus s travels and Cicero
s exile, both dreamt of nothing but being able to return home to the place they belonged. Calypso, who
had been keeping Odysseus on her island for several years, in an attempt to get him to stay with her
even tries to tempt Odysseus with immortality and warns him of the troubles he will have attempting
to return and upon arriving (Odyssey 72 73). Despite this temptation and the warning, Odysseus says:
My thought full Penelopeia, beside you, is not so tall or striking to look at. The lady will die; you are
undying and ageless. Even so I go on longing all of my days here to sail back home, to see that
homecoming light. (Odyssey 73)
Despite the pleasures he may have and the troubles he may avoid by staying with Calypso, Odysseus
still desires nothing more than to return

Helicopter Parent Research Paper College is typically the prime of a young adult s life, it s where students get their first taste of freedom and have a newfound independence and although this is what most teenagers so strongly desire, there are some who do not know how to properly handle the world alone. These people are those with helicopter parents. Helicopter parents are parents who, like their nickname, are always hovering over their children to protect them and make sure all their needs are being met. Mothers and fathers are their raising children that have had their abilities and self assurance stripped away to be held by them. Being loving and supportive is also not enough to help reverse the damage done by the smothering involvement so, no matter how helicopter parents go about managing their children, they re still managing their children. The only way to solve this problem is for parents to learn how to let go and find other ways to engage with their child without controlling them, they must put their trust in them and believe that the young adult they raised is as talented and gifted enough of a person as they believe them to ... Before he left, Bilbo wanted nothing more than to stay in the comforts of his hobbit hole, but afterwards he was more willing to abandon comfort for more adventures. The hobbit was not at all willing for adventure in the beginning since Gandalf, a wizard, practically tricked him into going on the trip, but after getting the thrill of adventure, Bilbo was more open to venturing outside his hobbit hole. On the journey, the company came across many creatures and with these encounters, Bilbo became more open to different creatures than only meeting visitors that came to his hobbit hole. • 7. Traditional Families Vs Single Parent Families Traditional families versus single parent families. A traditional family household is a household with two parents, mother and father. A single parent family household is a one parent household a mother, or father. This household is usually occurs when a parent dies, parents divorce, or the parents was never married and separated after having a child together. The question at hand is would a child be more successful and mentally stable in life growing up in a traditional family household, or single parenting household? This has been an intriguing argument for many years. I strongly believe a child in a single parent home could grow up to be just as emotionally stable and also be just as successful as a child who grows up with both parents. Many children in today s society have grown to become successful and mentally stable whether they had two parents, or one parent raise them. With everything in life it is never about quantity, but quality. This could apply to single parenting as well. As long as a parent create a stable and nurturing home their child will grow up to be a mature, hard working, independent, and loving adult. Family structure should not be the main focus when it comes to raising children, the focus should be on the values and life lessons that are taught to the child as they mature in life. Family structure in the last decade have change drastically. Children are being raised by same sex parents, grandparents, extended family, a single father, or a single ... Today, if you turn on the television or open a magazine, one comes face to face with unrealistically thin models. This epidemic has increased the number of women who are dissatisfied with their bodies. This paper will assess several articles, literature reviews, and papers that relate to the media s portrayal of the ideal women s body being extremely thin. Each source elaborates on the dissatisfaction women have with their bodies as a result of the content released in the media. Irving (2008) defines media as a Tool used to transmit ideas, images, messages, or information to the public. The media strategically targets adolescent females. This is specifically ages 13 18 (Steinberg Morris, 2001). During these precious years of life, adolescents go through periods of struggle with identity. The most prominent struggle is understanding their role in society, and conforming to social norms. Media today offers a distorted vision of the world, and therefore makes it difficult for adolescents to decipher what is actually realistic (Van Vonderen Kinnally, 2012). In order for people to be able to truly see what these squids look like, an institution MBARI have been dropping robotic submarines down to see this cockeyed squid in action. Katie Thomas found in one of the footages that the squid swims with its left eye angle upward and their tiny right eye angled downwards. There was another physical difference the left eye was big and bulging, as well as, yellow. Although the younger squids did not have the yellow color in their eye. Humans eyes carry pigment in the iris. The squid eye differs in that their yellow pigment is right in the lens. These squids do not have corneas, so instead the lens stick directly out of the eye. The lens of the smaller eye is perfectly clear. An interesting fact that I learned was the yellow lenses may help the squid see prey swimming overhead. Some animals have some sort of camouflage, but the yellow lenses can help predators help see through that camouflage. Also, an upward allows the squid to scan for prey that light up to camouflage themselves against the sunlight. The beady, downward facing eye allows for the squid to see creatures lighting up in the darkness. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essentially, this theory makes the assumption that if there is a war between two countries, it will be between one that is democratic and one that is not. There has been some evidence that no two democratic countries have ever been to war, if we are talking about war in the sense of military action (Griffiths et al., 2008). For example, 353 pairs of states engaged in wars between 1816 1991 and none was between two democracies: 155 pairs involved a democracy and a non democratic country, and 198 involved two non democratic states fighting each other (Griffiths et al., 2008). A reason for why democratic peace theorists stress that democratic states fight with only non democratic states is due to the reason that, they may be dangerous because they seek other ends, such as conquest or plunder (Owen 1994). When did the theory originate? Democratic Peace Theory, as it came to be known, emerged as a robust research programme in the post Cold War years (Daddow, 2013). According to Rosato (2003), the theory is probably the most powerful liberal contribution to the debate on the causes of war and peace (p.585) Now let s talk about the ideology that the theory can be drawn from and let s see how the ideology and the theory can be linked together to help prove that some sort of democratic peace can and does exist. The general concept of free will is the ability to make choices of your own without anyone or anything impeding them which, consequently, makes you morally responsible. Free will, however, is non existent. This is explained with the theory of determinism and solidified via hard determinism. Our actions and behavior can be traced to our desires and beliefs which are directly caused by our genetics and environment. There are many stances and arguments against this idea but ultimately do not dissuade against it. There are many beliefs as to what free will is, and many have tried to establish its meaning. David Hume believes it is the ability to act on your beliefs and desires and as your beliefs and desires change, so does your behavior. The problem with Hume s definition is that those with compulsory disorders and addictions have free will according to that definition. Harry Frankfurt believes that if first and second order desires are in agreement then you have free will. The problem with Frankfurt s definition is that the addicts that do not have a conflicting order of desires have free will according to the definition and those who are weak willed do not have free will. Since Japan was in a great need of cheap labor, Korean workers were recruited during 1920s. In this essay, I am going to discuss the significance of institutional racial discrimination targeted towards Korean workers in interwar Japan as a tool of alienation and exploitation. One of the abiding discernments formed in Karl Marx s Capital is that in the colonies of capitalist nation states the apparitions of the law of the supply and demand of labor are crushed. In the home country, the magnificent allurement of capitalist production can be found in its capability to reproduce the wage laborer by regularly setting him or her free, firing him or her and by creating a surplus population that rests in approximate exteriority to capitalist manufacturing as the prerequisite for the commodification of labor power. Regularly handling labor power as a expendable commodity is hence the way capitalist manufacturing can assure that its most nonexpendable commodity labor power is constantly there by the time capitalist manufacturing encounters so called labor shortages during industrial expansion. It is this reproductive apparatus that enables the smug knavery of the Japanese colonial policymaker to envision and to formalize into normalized principles of economic shift, that owners of labor power who are de facto impelled to enter into a relationship of reliance with the wage form can take part in ... Leyson, sixty four years after Leon arrived in the United States. World War Two affected millions of people and it is very important that stories from the war are shared. In the beginning of the war Leon and his family lived in Kraków, Poland. Leon had four siblings, their names were: Hershel, Tsalig, David, and Pesza. Leon came from a jewish family, which would not work in their favor during the Holocaust. Once the war started Leon and his family were transferred into the ghetto. The ghetto was a fenced in minature town, that was made by the Germans and was placed in the center of Kraków. All of the Jews were forced to live in the ghetto. After the war Pesza and David moved to Czechoslovakia, Israel, while Leon and his parents immigrated to America. Leon and his parents spent years in a United Nations relief organization camp in Germany while waiting to go to America. The camp was for Jews who were trying to make it to the United States, after the war ended. At the camp Leon changed his name from Leib Lejzon to the American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sexual Objectification in Music Videos and How Adolescents Are Affected Lauren Faron, Aynsley Fishel, Nisha Patel, Menelik Solomon The Ohio State University Music videos are easily accessible to everyone, especially adolescents. From its earliest origins on TV to recent upgrades to technology on the internet, such as YouTube, anyone can watch music videos at any time of the day. Online music video sites draw an average of 150 million people each month who view more than two billion videos per day (Mischner, Schie, Wigboldus, Baaren, Engels, 2013). Sexually objectifying music videos have increased in the last couple of decades. With this, more adolescents are being influenced by viewing these videos and mostly all of them are affected in some way, either positive or negative. What a lot of people do not know is what is happening to adolescents after viewing these types of music videos and how it can lead to concerning effects later in development. Literature Review Adolescence is a crucial time in the lives of young boys and girls, especially when it comes to viewing music videos. Before the Second World War, Japan was mostly isolated from the rest of the world except for some trading activities with Portugal. Due to this Western or rather European, the influence in the country was minimal. Japan was, therefore, able to retain some of its strong traditional legal systems despite incorporating some aspects from the French, Chinese, and Americans. However; after WWII, Japan was forced to adopt the American legal approaches to the constitution and human rights due to the post war agreement that was signed (Reichel, 2002). The Japanese however did not abandon their systems all together as they continued to use the informal ways of conflict resolution through mediation, consensus, and compromise. The formal systems were then used in combination with these. What often varies, however, is the reason behind the supernatural. Is it a figment of the imagination or is it real? Is it caused by psychological guilt or are the dead out for revenge? More often than not, the supernatural are used as propaganda to affirm a monarch s position on the throne. Particularly, I argue that Shakespeare uses ghosts in Richard III to rewrite history for the current reigning monarch, a motif which he then repeats in Macbeth. Richard III s ghosts are not nearly as present as the ghosts in Macbeth. They only show up once in a dream sequence, cementing them firmly as figments of Richard s mind. It is telling then that the only time when ghosts do show up, they condone Richard III and hope for Richmond s success. Specifically, even Richard s closest allies have turned on him: O in the battle think on Buckingham/And die in terror of thy guiltiness (Shakespeare, Richard III 5.5.123 4).
