2. Life Changing Relationship With My Grandmother
Life Changing Relationship
The relationship I have with my grandmother is one of the most amusing,
affectionate, and enjoyable relationships that I have ever had, and it has been this
way since the very birth of me.
My grandmother spent her career life working closely with people who needed her
and were at a point of struggle in their lives.
These efforts consisted of working at a children s home for emotionally disturbed
young boys, and teaching high school english in a program for pregnant teenage girls.
She wasn t a woman without problems, she simply decided to put her problems
aside for the sake of others. I have seen her do this a thousand times just in the short
16 years I have known her, and in many instances, she was doing it for me. She was
born and raised on the same farm that she lives on today, and my family lives in a
house right across from her on this delightful land. She loves the beautiful creation
that surrounds us, and has ingrained it in me from a young age to appreciate nature,
and see beauty in what others see as just grass and sky.
After reading this short description of my grandmother, she probably sounds like a
very sweet old lady.
She is sweet, but is not a woman you d want to challenge or treat unfairly.
My grandma has taught me to appreciate nature, stand up for myself while
respecting others, and to be a good friend who knows how to comfort a troubled soul
during a time of need.

3. Return To Forever
Jazz, unlike quite a few new age genres of music, is one of those types of genres
that you have to listen to multiple times in order to get the full effect of a piece.
Considering it is more musically complex than a genre such as pop, you can hear
something new almost every single time you listen to the same piece. For my CD
review, I chose to write about Return to Forever written by Chick Corea, released in
November of 1999. Some of the reasons I chose this album is because it is seen as
alternative jazz, and I was extremely curious as to what that sounded like, and also
after listening to the first track, because it has electronic musicincorporated within it.
The main reason the idea of computer produced music sparked my interest so much is
because normally when I hear something electronically generated (EDM, Dub step,
etc.), I end up seriously hating it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Crystal Silence, this track is very upbeat and quickly moving. This is also
the first track on the album to feature vocals with true lyrics. When hearing these
lyrics for the first time, they really don t seem to have much significance, but after
listening to the track quite a few times, I ve developed my own interpretation of
with the song s message was. In the lines Man just wants to be happy, cast off
things that shouldn t be. Set him free. Life is paradise, I believe that Corea is
trying to say that we should let go of things that don t have a strong sense of
significance in our lives, and just make it a goal to be happy. That life is a gift and
that we set barriers to happiness for ourselves. Along with the lyrics themselves, the
music sounds very up beat and playful, which really adds on to the whole idea of
peace, love, and happiness. When I thought about it, this theme really does fit in with
the timeframe in which it was written in, considering the track was originally released

4. Medical Records and Privacy of the Famous
Medical Records and Privacy of the Famous
Privacy seems to be something that many people desire, but is becoming less and
less available. With all the new technology, it is easier than ever to invade someone
s privacy. With cameras everywhere, from ATM s to people s cell phones, it is
difficult for anyone to do anything that can be kept to one s self. While privacy is a
right that the average person doesn t normally struggle with, it is a problem that
celebrities encounter everyday. Paparazzi are constantly following these famous
people around as they do their everyday things like shopping, playing with their
children, partying, or simply hanging in their homes. It is basically the price to pay to
be famous. While these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is obvious that celebrity news is an outlet that sells, as seen by the numerous
tabloids and entertainment shows. The public has an interest in what is going on in
the lives of these rich and glamorous people. This brings on a form of mediated
voyeurism, which can be defined as, the consumption of revealing images and
information about others real and unguarded lives, not always for the purpose of
entertainment but frequently at the expense of privacy and discourse, through the
means of the mass media (Calvert, 2000). Basically saying that the public has a
need to see these famous people and learn about their lives, even at the risk of
invading their privacy. The tabloids simply exploit the public s desire to learn these
things, regardless of the ethical issues of invading a human being s privacy. They
know people will buy it and that they will make money.
I think that to be an ethical journalist it is important to empathize with the person
whose life is about to be splashed on the papers. Of course there is the matter of
getting the story and pleasing the readers and the editor, but it should take into
account the public s real right to know. A story about the health of someone like the
President of the United States might be something worth printing, because knowing
how he is medically is of public interest because this is a man that is running the
country.
5. Connect2texas Case Study
I wanted to touch base with all the participating technical member of the Bush
Annenberg / Connect2Texas events. Yesterday (November 9th, 2016) event had
several issues according to TTVN Operations and emails from Shirley and Lori. I
am going to do my best to discuss all the different issue and the root causes of these
issues. To address Johnny Carline concern about losing the last few questions, the
program went over the scheduled end time of 11:30am, causing the connection
drop. Mike from Annenberg called TTVN Operations and asked about why the call
ended to which I explained the above. My suggestion is to add 30 minutes extra to
the end of every request. Shirley, if you would like to do this for all the events left

The production staff needs to white balance their camera to bring the color range
back into the correct perspective. This has been an ongoing struggle through the
years. (My understanding is the production crew is an outsourced group not
affiliated with Annenberg). Currently, we connect to Annenberg via 2 Fiber
Strands and an SD codec. The video image that Connect2Texas is receiving is an
SD feed. There are plans in place to upgrade to an HD Codec located at Annenberg.
We have been aware that this is a concern and are working to address the issue with
the Annenberg staff. I truly believe that once the new equipment at Annenberg the
quality will improve. The image quality also seems to go down once all the schools
connect to Connect2Texas. This could be a bandwidth issue between the schools and
Connect2Texas. TTVN has tested several times with Connect2Texas a proven that
the connection between the 2 bridges is solid. Due to the large volume of schools
connecting to Connect2Texas, we will still potently see some loss in quality
6. Ceramic Fragments Found At The Tepco Beach
In this project, we are asked to analyze ceramic fragments found at the TEPCO
beach, which, in the mid 20th century, used to be a dump site of the Technical
Porcelain and China Ware Company (TEPCO). Though ceramics seem rather
mundane, as Deetz s study on the ceramics used in the colonial American show, they
reveal quite a bit to the careful eyes: he found out that people used plates
symbolically as displays of status rather than utensils, and the ceramic sets after the
18th century reflected the Georgian mindset of individuality and discipline (Deetz
1996). I am also interested in studying ceramics in a way that relates to and reveal
their meanings a post processual, emic orientation more directly seen in the Gage

Upon initial observation, I noticed that the special pieces seem to have less visual

I wanted to figure out specifically what data are the most useful in answering my
research question: just like Wilkie did in her Mardis Gras research in which she
determined a distinct set of data for each of her research question (Wilkie 2014).
With that in mind, I decided to simply focus on the data needed to verify my rather
straightforward hypothesis, that the special pieces have less visual contrast than the
standard ones in general. There are two attributes, as evident from the hypothesis,
that I would need to know for each artifact: its specialty whether the piece has
special or standard decoration and its visual contrast. Given the visual nature of
both attributes, I decided that the only data I would need to collect are pictures of
my artifacts. Next, I needed to decide how I would analyze the photos in order to
extract the two attributes, specialty and contrast, so that I can test my hypothesis. A
way of classifying specialty was determined by me as such: while the standard pieces

The Impact Parental Incarceration on Children s Development and Attachment Style
The greatest threat to a child s well being in the United States is parental
incarceration The Sentencing Project. A 500% increase has made The land of the
Free the top country in the world for housing inmates in its correctional facilities,
with more than 2.2 million currently incarcerated (BJS, 2011). Excusing one s views
on the appropriateness of the justice system and incarceration, it is evident that
parental imprisonment disrupts the relationship between a parent and a child
tremendously. In addition to the absence of nurturance, economic stresses are
heightened which can cause the remaining family to become unstable. Because there
has is not a lot of research dedicated to the wellbeing of children who have a parent
incarcerated, it is vital that more attention be paid to the nations children. Our goal in
this paper is to examine the impact of parental incarceration on children s
development and attachment style.
The background literature for this topic has been subdivided into three categories. To
understand the impact of incarceration we must first look at the parent child
relationship, warm parental interactions are associated with effective problem solving
in adolescence and adulthood, while hostile interactions are associated with
destructive adolescent behavior (Ge, Best, Conger Simons, 1996a; Rueter conger,
1995). We must observe the
8. Analysis Of The Poem Hills Like White Elephants
Elephants, specifically white elephants, the Bible, and the beautiful red bud of a
blooming rose, all have a similar meaning. The answer to the meaning of these
material objects would be curtains, tall and wide mountains like the Appalachians,
and trains. These may just be material objects, but the allegory, or symbolism, is
alive and useful in both history and present day. Hills Like White Elephants , A
Rose For Emily , and Where Are You Going, Where have you been? are all fictional
short stories, with numerous amounts of allegory, or symbolism, to be analyzed by
the use of quotes from each story, and all with both a short term symbolic meaning
and a long term overall theme.
I was intrigued by all of the symbolism in Hills Like White Elephants . At first, I did
not realize the symbolic meaning of these material objects, but did further research to
find out. The beaded curtain doesn t have the best meaning today, but along with the
train track and the hills they all mean the same thing. Jig (a dance, and also a black
person), the beaded curtain, the tracks, the hills, could all mean BOUNDARIES.
Ernest Hemingway writes, Well, let s try and have a fine time. All right. I was
trying. I said the mountains looked like white elephants. Wasn t that bright? That
was bright (312). The girl and the woman were discussing if the girl wanted water
in her alcoholic drink. She did not know what she wanted so she tried. She goes on
to say how nasty the drink tasted, which is replied
9. Alcohol And Losing Self Control Essay
Alcohol is a psychoactive brain changing chemical that, like heroin, can depresses a
person. It is an well organized tranquilizer with the ability to reduce short term
anxiety. However, at low doses alcoholic beverage acts as a stimulant and initially
the user of alcohol often experiences it as an energizer with ecstatic effect. The
ability of alcoholto produce both depressant and stimulant effect may be related to
the fact that in difference to the other psychoactive substance alcohol affect the
percentage of the brain that controls inhibition. Drinkers show more self confidence
and may act stupid or even get rowdy an will lose self control.

violence on days of heavy drinking by the male partners (drinking six or more
drinks in 24 hours) are more than 18 times higher and the odds of severe violence

was revealed that about 137 men went into a domestic violence treatment program
and out of 137 men 135 of them entered into a alcoholism treatment program over a
15 month span. This is a very similar pattern with men who are drinking and
physical violence against women. Its as if drinking is and enhancement or liquid

function normally either socially , intellectually or physically they are not able to
control drinking and it may lead to

11. The Importance Of Typology In Christianity
Christianity has been from the beginning a typological religion. Typology in
Christian theology and Biblical exegesis is a doctrine or theory concerning the
relationship between the Old and New Testaments . (Merriam Webster 868) Perhaps
the single most important concept for understanding early Christianity is typology.
Typology is a form of study of literature identifying symbols especially in the Bible.
This system of groupings, usually called types, the members of which are identified
by postulating specified attributes that are mutually exclusive and collectively
exhaustive groupings set up to aid demonstration or inquiry by establishing a limited
relationship among phenomena. Typology is interpreted throughout text in American
literature such as William Bradford s Plymouth Plantation, Jonathan Edward s
Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and Thomas PaineCommon Sense. During the
Enlightenment, the meaning of Protestant identity became increasingly vague;
typology took on the hazy significance of image and symbol; what passed for the
divine plan had lost its strict grounding sculpture; providence itself was shaken loose
from its religious frame work to became part of the belief in the human progress. The
eighteenth century clergy took advantage of this movement to shift the focus of
figural authority, from Bible history to the American experience. In effect, they
substituted a regional for a biblical past, sanctified the American present as a
movement from promise to

Hero
The Odysey is an exciting story about a special king. But what sets this story apart
from the rest is the example it sets forth of a real hero. In the Odysey, Homer writes
about the story of a true hero. That hero is known by the name of Odyseus.
Odyseus is a true Hero only because of his cleverness and strength which he
displays on his way home to Ithaca. What is seen through him are the characteristics
of a true hero. Odyseus shows great strength on his baleful journey to his beloved
home of Ithaca. His great strength is seen many times, once as in the bow and arrow

Odyseus describes the situation as, I snatched it from the fire, while my men stood
around and heaven inspired us with great courage. Seizing the olive stake, sharp at
the tip, we plunged it into his eye, and I, perched above, whirled it around. Blood
bubbled round the heated thing (page 112). Fiercely they attacked the cyclops, under
the leadership, and most importantly, strength of Odyseus. Again and again, stuck
in a precarious situation that looks like will be the end of Odyseus, we are
amazed. It is in these situations that the cleverness of Odyseus shows itself most.
One of these times are when Odyseus and his crew encounter sirens. Sirens, the
hauntful creatures that are known for luring sailors in to them, are what tried to
tempt Odyseus. But thanks to his cleverness, he plans ahead. Never hearing there
voices before, but knowing just how tempting they will be, he generates a plan.
For all of his sailor crew, he has them fill their ears with beeswax. But for himself,
since he would like to hear the sirens voices, he has another plan. He has his crew
lash him to the mask of the boat. Odyseus does all this because he knows neither
himself or any of his crew members can withstand the temptations that the sirens
show to them. The way that the sirens present themselves is different for each
person, as they know what each person will be tempted by most. Here is what they
13. Similarities Between Everyman And The Pilgrim s Progress
Religion has played a significant role in the shaping and molding of human
civilization. In the Middle Ages, religion was a core pinnacle that served as a
source of guidance and meaning for individuals and the state. The medieval play,
Everyman, explores the journey of Everyman to Heaven and the phases he must go
through in order to stand before God to give an account of his life. Everyman was
written during a time when the Catholic Church s practice of penance was paramount
as a means for attaining salvation. The personification of the everyday person and
spiritual qualities in this play gives an impressive insight into the trials and victories
that are part of the Christian walk on the journey to eternal life. This work embodies

Therefore I pray you go thither with me To help me make mine account, for saint

in life are few. Every Christian on a journey to eternal life longs for fellowship in
order to have a sense of community and joy. The outcome of life one strives for is
to live a rewarding life. God will judge each individual s good and bad deeds when
all mankind stands before Him to give an account of their life. The allegorical
aspect of the play serves an important role in this scene because it appeals to the
common individual through its emphasis on relationship. Everyman s longing for
a friend is an inherent desire of every Christian because it gives them a sense of
community while seeking purpose and meaning in life. In his article, The
Doctrine of Friendship in Everyman, John Conley says, In his hour of adversity
Everyman turns first to Fellowship, who like a true friend readily promises to help
before he knows what will be asked of him...But as soon as Fellowship learns what
Everyman wants of him, he reneges on his promise (376). Here, Friendship appears
to be a nice and loyal friend on the surface; however, as the layers are removed, his
true character is revealed. As

Critical Analysis on Dracula
With several illicit subjects listed throughout Bram Stoker s Dracula, the book
becomes a playground for psychoanalysts. Whether it be to see a subjects as simple
as the conscious take over a character, or a character s surroundings corrupting its
victims, Dracula intrigues in more ways than just its vampiristic features. The
following is a psychoanalytic study with a focus on vampirism imitating sexual
practice and drug usage today while shining a light on the complex psychology of
characters, and how even the author can influence the course of its story.
Key Principle #1: Human activity is not reducible to conscious intent. The complexity

Here, Harker has fallen victim to the vampire s lustful attraction. This also
demonstrates an undertone of eroticism within the story since the three vampires
get much closer to Jonathan Harker than proper Victorian ladies should (Pikula
291). Harker also seems to develop signs of paranoia. An early sign of this
paranoia is when Harker accepts the rosary from the old lady at the inn before he
continued on with his journey. He did not know how to react to this, stating in his
journal that as an English churchman, I have been taught to regard such things as
in some measure idolatrous This shows the opening signs of paranoia, having
neurotic ideas. He does not accept that he is the one going against his views, he
instead decides to pin it on the old lady for being so kind in her offer. As he stays
in Dracula s castle, Harker begins to feel trapped, as well stated on page 27. He
fights this feeling in many ways. One that stands out though is his method of writing
the letters he s allowed to write by Count Dracula. He keeps them short and concise,
for fear that the Count may read them. This demonstrates a fear of being watched,
and can also be accounted for as paranoia.
Key Principle #5: Characters in texts may also have a complex psychology. Another
character worth analyzing is Renfield. Curiously enough, Renfield s Syndrome was a
term coined by psychologist Herschel

17. The Common Era Fransisco Goya
In 1814 of the common era Fransisco Goya painted The Third of May, 1808. This
painting shows us the horrors that happened that day in Madrid when hundreds of
Spaniards rebelled the French were sent in to slaughter them. All but one of the
Spaniards in this painting are cowering over to hide from the death that awaits them
The one man who s not cowering is standing there with open arms ready to embrace
the sacrifice he s making for his country. Around 1599 1600 of the common era
Caravaggio painted The Calling of Matthew. This painting is of the tax collector
Matthew being called upon by Christ. More specifically Matthew is sitting with his
fellow tax collectors counting the money collected from the day.
When looking at these works they both give me a strange feeling. Goya s painting
is more depressing than anything, but it almost makes me feel proud of the man
in the center as he displays true heroism. The soldiers are comical to me as all I
can think about upon looking at them is the Winki Guard from the Wizard of Oz.
The long coats and the tall fuzzy hats resemble those from the movie. Caravaggio s
painting is mysterious in the regard that the shadows conceal the men looking and
pointing toward Matthew. To add to it everyone around the table is looking at them
quite concerned and confused. Overall this painting doesn t really appeal to me in
any regard. However, I can appreciate the shadow work in both paintings.
Debatably the most visually striking aspect of both of these
18. The Economic And Philosophic Manuscripts Of 1844 Essay
In the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844, Karl Marx identifies a
dichotomy that is created and bolstered by the capitalist mode of production. In this
mode of production, the dichotomy presents itself in a division of labor that forms of
two kinds of people: capitalists, the owners of the means of production, and laborers,
those who work under the domain of the capitalist. Marx harshly criticizes this mode
of production, arguing that it exploits the laborer and estranges him from himself and
his fellow man. According to Marx, this large scale estrangement is achieved through
a causal chain of effects that results in multiple types of alienation, each contingent
upon the other. First, Marx asserts that under capitalism, the laborer is alienated from
his product of labor. Second, because of this alienation from his product, man is
also alienated then from the act of production. Third, man, in being alienated both
from his product and act of production, is alienated from his species essence, which
Marx believes to be the ability to create and build up an objective world. Finally,
after this series of alienations, Marx arrives at his grand conclusion that capitalist
labor causes man to be alienated from his fellow man. In this paper, I will argue in
support of Marx s chain of alienations, arriving at the conclusion that laborers, under
the capitalist mode of production, cannot retain their species essence and thus cannot
connect with one another, and exist in a world

it is critically important to study the history, elements and experience of naval

21. The Wonders Of The Invisible World Chapter Summary
Throughout time, historians have relied on first person encounters to accurately
depict the world and the people at a certain time. Cotton Mather s, The Wonders of
the Invisible World, does exactly that by giving the reader a perspective into the
Salem witch trials as well as a first person view from Mather himself. Through this
work, Mather shares his opinions on the actions taken in the trials and the works of
the Devil and God inside of New England. During this time period, religion played a
significant part in society such that it was a driving force behind the hysteria created.
This hysteria doesn t seem to reach Mather, but rather he seems to be compelled to
write due to his pre existing concern for society against the Devil and witchcraft....

It seems to be that Mather makes this deduction with guidance from his
observations and is his driving force behind writing Wonders. He feels as though
the Devil is running rampant through the colony that he has poured his heart into
and also that it is a personal attack against him. Even though he understands
everything that is taking place, he doesn t have the power as a single person to
destroy it. All of this comes as though Mather knew this would happen to the
colony at a certain point. This preface can be seen when Mather begins to discuss
how the Ephesians were rejoicing in God s gospel and the Devil began to try and
dismantle all of their joy (151). The whole situation seems to be a prophetic
experience for Mather which leads to him realizing how rooted the Devil is in his
colony and the destruction that he is causing. He later goes on to state that, the devil
has made a dreadful knot of witches in the county implying, once again, the rooted
aspect of the Devil (152). This expresses one of the true characteristics of why Mather
brought Wonders to life; he wants people to understand the true magnitude of what is
happening and the reason behind

4. Long term solutions Long term solutions are those that we feel cannot be
accomplished within a 3 month period. Outsourcing all production on the basis of
fixed contracts has proven to be inflexible and Snapple would be wise to invest in
its own production facility. Part of the outsourced work could then be handled by
themselves and it would also allow them to handle peak demands by increasing the
utilization and temporarily producing extra output. This solution has been derived
from Fisher s article on functional vs. innovative products. For a product
characterized by unpredictable demand, a market responsive supply chain is
recommended (Fisher, M. Harvard Business School Publishing). Such a supply chain
is more able to respond to unpredictable demand to minimize stock outs, which has
become the problem for Snapple. Their current supply chain is what Fisher calls
Physically efficient , and does not match the product. Because demand is so volatile,
a solution could be to adjust yearly forecasts more often, for instance monthly. This
would allow Snapple to bring production more in line with demand. However, the
question is whether the independent production companies are able to cope with a
monthly change in production quantity, in stead of a yearly one. Decentralization in
decision making should be the long term goal. Different markets require different
approaches and

Along the Texas/Mexico border there are many border cities, and among the border
cities there is a trend that points to an advantage of prosperity on the US side
compared to the Mexican side of the border. The border cities of El Paso and Ciudad
Juarez show an example of the US advantage over the Mexican side; El Paso is a
Texas city on the Texas/Mexicoborder, and in 2014 it was the city with the lowest
crime rate in the US ; Ciudad Juarez, on the other hand was known as one of the
deadliest cities in Mexico . Along with the differences in crime rates, El Paso and
Ciudad Juarez have many differences that make them clear examples of the
advantage that Texas border cities hold over Mexican border cities.
Crime
In 2010, Ciudad Juarez was one of the most violent cities in all of Mexico with
3,057 murders . Ciudad Juarez became an example of the extent of the drug war
that was occurring in Mexico in the 2000s. Death had become a common
occurrence in Ciudad Juarez. At the height of the drug war in Mexico, between the
years of 2007 and 2012, around 11,078 people were murdered in Ciudad Juarez . In
contrast to Ciudad Juarez, El Paso had the lowest crime rate in the US in 2014 .
According to the Neighborhood Scout website s interactive map, crime rates in the
city of El Paso are for the most part low, but near the border there is a high crime
rate. The higher crime rate found along the border is probably due to the ongoing
drug trade and illegal immigration that occurs along the

Cartel and the Cocaine Industry The drug cartel based in Cali, Colombia, was one
of the largest players in the multi billion dollar worldwide cocaine industry.
Although their operations are highly illegal, opposed by both Colombian and US
law enforcement agencies, the cartel continues to run a very effective operation.
The vast majority of this cocaine is destined for the US market. It reaches the US
by numerous routes by air, by sea, but mostly over land by Mexico. Once the
cocaine reaches the United States, Cali has makes use of its distribution network to

South America has a virtual monopoly on the supply of coca leaves. The region is
also a very efficient producer of other illegal agricultural products, such as opium
poppies and marijuana. Cali s main weakness is the fact that the product it sells is
illegal. This puts it at a competitive disadvantage with respect to legal narcotics, such
as tobacco, alcohol, and Valium (Holloway, 1988). It faces much higher operating
costs, contracts are not enforceable, and it has no access to traditional advertising
media. This is by the fact that it is exempt from government regulations and taxes.
Cocaine is essentially a commodity product, sold on price and purity. This means Cali
cannot differentiate its product from other traffickers. However, this is not a serious
weakness. Although Cali attempts to reduce the risk by using multiple routes,
interdiction of a major shipment can cause a temporary loss of market share. As a
high profile organization, Cali faces more intense scrutiny from law enforcement
agencies than smaller independent traffickers (Bernards, 1990). With limited border
checks and a relatively immature cocaine market, Europe in particular provides a
significant opportunity for growth. Stimulate end user demand. Attempt to get

The movie Groundhog Day shares many parallels with the book Flight by Sherman

stages of confusion, happiness, desperation, and acceptance until finally they have

differences though. Zits spends the beginning of his experience trying to come up
with a logical explanation and finally turning to religion to explain each body he

plays a role in this although at one point he tells Rita that I am God. (imdb.com)
Instead he quickly decides to use the situation to his advantage since nothing he
does has any consequences and he can learn various things to impress girls or save

29. Importance Of Grit
Grit: Should it be taught in schools? Grit is, most likely, an attribute we all strive
for. It is a trait we usually place on people that we look up to, such as athletes, role

people as having accomplished much in their lives, and that is what we strive for.
Grit can be defined in the dictionary as strength of character. The definition, itself, is
easy to understand and could definitely be taught in schools. However, grit, as a
characteristic, is not something that can be taught. It is one that the student must

question to arise: should grit be taught in schools? Duckworth was actually working
in a school when she initially changed her perspective of the keys to success. She
came to the conclusion that her hardest working students surpassed her more
naturally gifted ones (Denby 7). Her work with various education advocates has
seized grit as a quality that can be located and developed in children (Denby 3).
Because of this, some public schools are currently modifying their curriculum in
order to teach grit character. In California, there are schools that have even begun
grading and evaluating students on their level of grit. Even the standardized testing
companies that issue the National Assessment of Educational Progress and the

extreme racism towards both British and Indian people; these conflicts subdued with
the common stereotype that India was a realm of spice, wealth, and glory. Suggesting
the British Rajwas beneficial to the Indian subcontinent would be an indistinct
opposition. To learn why the British Raj was detrimental to the Indian subcontinent,
one must first learn what the British Raj is and its history. The period of dominion
of the British Raj lasted from 1858 to 1958. The British Raj separated India into the
notorious princely states , where certain royalties under the British Crown ruled.
Queen Victoria, crowned, in 1876, the Empress of India since the British East India

Indians the Indian National Congress, established in 1885, which consisted of a
group of middle class scholars, some of which were British, became the voice of
Indian opinion to the British Government. This later became the precursor of the

CRUISE SHIP
A cruise ship or cruise liner is a (usually very large) passenger ship used for
pleasure voyages, where the voyage itself and the ship s amenities are part of the
experience, as well as the different destinations along the way. Transportation is not
the prime purpose, as cruise ships operate mostly on routes that return passengers to
their originating port, so the ports of call are usually in a specified region of a

In contrast, dedicated transport oriented ocean liners do line voyages and typically

Snell (n.d.) points out, The Book of Kells is a stunningly beautiful manuscript

God s Providence is a belief that the original Pilgrims had, that they were meant to
take this journey to live freely with their beliefs. It was the idea that because they
were the ones who saw the true god, they would have good fortune in the new world.
There are several striking examples of God s Providence in the Pilgrims story. These
fortunate events helped them survive in an otherwise cruel, cold, wild and brutal
North America. The first, and maybe the most powerful of these events was the area
surrounding their settlement at Plymouth Harbor. The tribe that inhabited this land

would be willing to be surgeons. In particular, in Law 213 the slave is not worth
was a higher class because if a man has killed a slave s baby, the man has to pay
half the value of the salve or has to pay the slave owner. In my opinion that is
considered rude to because the slave is treated like if she was not living, but in
reality we are all treated equal and fair. In Law 199 it states that if a slave eye was
knocked out the man shall pay half of his value. In my viewpoint I believe that the
slaves are not worth the whole price. Hammurabi said that his code was meant to
protect the weak, but most of the laws are more unfair for the slaves and lower class
men then the upper class men, if a commoner were to commit a crime, their hands
would be cut
41. Hrm 531 Change Management Plan
Change Management
Within every project, issues occur that require alterations in the schedule or scope of
the project. The change management plan outlines the process in which these
recommendations be submitted, evaluated, and approved or declined (Vaidyanathan,
2013). Appendix CC demonstrates the change request form that will be utilized by
team members. These forms are assessed and reviewed by the change control board
that will be further discussed in the project execution section.
Cost Management
Another element that is essential in the project management plan is the cost
management plan. The main focus of the cost management plan is overseeing the
cost of the necessary resources for the execution of the project (PMI, 2013). This
function is completed within the planning stage of an endeavor to provide a structure
to support performance and efficiency throughout the lifecycle of the undertaking
(PMI, 2013). For the AAE Project, analogous and parametric estimating was utilized
in estimating the potential costs of the endeavor. Appendix T shows the cost
breakdown of each activity within the project by separating the salaries, equipment
/vendor costs, and vendor contract costs. Since
42. Moby-Dick
The setting of Moby Dick is ideal for the story; the mystique and terror of the sea
brings out raw emotions in the men, equalizing them and allowing Melville to tell a
story that is about not just a group of humans on a boat, but about human nature
itself. Melville personifies the sea, an omnipresent character in the book. Originally,
the sea meant escape from the drizzly November in [Ishmael s] soul (Melville 27),
but as the men travel farther away from land, some of the excitement for which
Ishmael hoped vanishes in favor of a nervous fear. The sea comes to represent the
unknown, with its unshored, harbourless immensities, that which is beyond the
comprehension of Ishmael, and even that of some of the more experienced whalers.

A fight breaks out when a Spaniard insults Daggoo about his race, but the fight is
quickly quelled when a storm presents itself. Hands by the halyards! in top gallant
sails! Stand by to reef topsails! come the shouts of one of the ship s mates (Melville
219). The men obey his orders immediately, putting aside their personal qualm for the
necessity of the greater good. No matter how divided the men are on land, at sea they
must come together. Even though there is a hierarchy of command, with Ahab
distinctly lost, the sense of equality aboard the ship means that no character s
individuality is lost. In fact, the establishment of a base equity between the men
allows Melville to comment on human nature in general by using the characters as
blank slates onto which he can project the traits he wishes to address. Each character
serves a greater purpose: Ahab with his revenge seeking monomania, Starbuck with
his mindfulness, Stubb with his carelessness, the White Whale and the pain it
43. Media Violence And Violent Behavior
One Punch Media
While violence is not new to the human race, it is an increasing problem in modern
society. With greater access to firearms and weapons, the scope and efficiency of
violent behavior has massive potential for serious consequences. Society needs to
only look at the recent school shootings and the escalating rate of youth homicides to
comprehend this ominous trend. While every child is different and the causes of
youth violence are multifactorial, there appears to be a correlation between media
violence and aggressive behavior within the group of vulnerable adolescents.
Before proceeding, it is important to define two terms clearly: media violence and
violent behavior. Different people have used different definitions of these terms at
different times, but for this research paper, media violence is defined as visual
portrayals of acts of physical aggression by one human against another. This
definition has evolved as theories about the effects of media violence have evolved
and represents an attempt to describe the kind of violent media presentation that is
most likely to teach the viewer to be more violent. Violence happens frequently in
America and people die because of the lack of ethical training. The problem is not
necessarily the one that appears as a clear and present danger because it
masquerades itself as a just the cultural shift into a new era of insensitivity.
Americans see violence every day in their media and so it has almost lost the potent

Our topic is what antacids out of milk of magnesium, gaviscon, tums and tagamet

dependent variable is the amount of antacid needed to neutralize the acid. Antacids
are a type of drug that helps neutralize indigestion. Indigestion occurs when you
experience a burning sensation at the bottom of your throat or abdominal pain.
Indigestion is common but the symptoms vary in severity and frequency depending
on who you are. Symptoms include being full during a meal even though you ve
barely consumed any of it, discomfort, bloating or burning in the upper abdomen and
nausea. Some of the less frequent symptoms include belching or vomiting. Indigestion

45. Meaning And Meaning Of Diaspora
The word Diaspora derives from the Greek Diasperien i.e. dia (through) and
sperien (to scatter). According to Webster s dictionary, Diaspora refers to
dispersion so we can say that the word represents a centre called home from where
the dispersion occurs. In addition to it the dictionary also associates the meaning
with the dispersion of the Jews after the Babylonian exile. Thus we get two
meanings of the word Diaspora as a spread of population and a forcible dispersal.
Though it suggests a movement from one place to another, but it s not a nomadic
existence as it is somewhere a journey but that also does not mean all journey can be
understood as that of a Diaspora. As in Diaspora does not mean causal travel, even
though diasporic journeys are mainly about settling down and about having roots
elsewhere. Thus, the concept of Diaspora has different meanings to different people
according to their different circumstances. For instance, when the Jews were exiled
from the Babylon, they were uprooted from their own homes and they had to rebuild
their community and culture all over again, for them the diaspora had different
meaning since it was forced. But today the meaning of Diaspora could be limited to
any community of a particular nation outside its own country, sharing some common
bonds that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dormer window is a window set into the dormer. Like skylights, dormer windows
are a source of light and ventilation for top floors, but unlike skylights they also

47. Heroes of American Realism Essay
Heroes of American Realism
The American realists of the late 19th century were notably adept at creating deep,
memorable characters whether virtuous or villainous who are continuously
developed throughout the tales in which they exist. These authors often used their
protagonists for a higher purpose than mere storytelling, endeavoring to construct a
critique of the times by placing the characters in opposition to their respective
societies. As a result, the protagonist often becomes an unassuming type of hero to
the reader, by courageously (or obtusely) defying convention, and doubting the
ignorant assumptions of society. Three such characters that were born of American
realism are found in the novels The Adventures of ... Show more content on

The first book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, features Huck, who narrates his
adventures along the Mississippi with Jim, a runaway slave. Huck escapes from his
alcoholic, abusive father early in the book, and, immediately thereafter, is primarily
concerned with his own survival and contentment. However, even these basic
amenities are threatened as he continues his voyage south. First and foremost, Huck
must survive in the wild, a task he undertakes with remarkable skill and
resourcefulness. Early on in the novel, Huck s skill at living in the wilderness is
plainly established, and the reader never doubts his ability to provide for himself.
Unfortunately, other complications soon arise. Huck happens upon Jim soon
after his own escape. Jim had run away from Huck s aunt after learning of her
intent to sell him south to New Orleans, and once these two fugitives cross paths,
their companionship is maintained for most of the book. Jim s presence presents
several problems to Huck. At first, when Huck initially runs into Jim, he is simply
glad to find a companion for his idle days on the raft. Indeed, Jim does prove a
loyal friend to Huck, and his companionship comes to be deeply appreciated by the
latter. However, it is soon evident that Jim s company is rather dangerous as well,
for he is sought after by slave hunters, and, in those days, any person caught
harboring a runaway slave was just as much a

After three days of battle that saw Lee s army enjoy early success, but Meade s
army still holding its ground, the ill advised assault by 12,500 Confederate troops
on Cemetery Ridge (known as Pickett s Charge) was the straw that broke the rebels
back. The Union line held while pushing the Confederates back, and the
Confederates suffered severe losses. The loss at Gettysburg represented more than
a simple failure. It represented the first major defeat of Lee on northern soil. While
the losses were fairly even, 23,055 for the north and 23,231 for the south, the losses
on the Confederate side were devastating to the Northern Army of Virginia at a time
when the south could not replace its dead soldiers effectively. What Lee hoped to do

50. Comparing Jesus Mindful Actions In A Tree And Its Fruit
Jesus talks in parables to shift away from the rote obedience to the commandments.
Jesus believes that he could clarify the Pharisees misunderstanding by exemplifying
the commandments in parables. Matthew explains how, Jesus told the crowds all
these things in parables; without a parable he told them nothing, (Matthew 13.34).
Jesususes parables to differentiate between mindless actions and mindful actions. To
him, mindless actions have no value; a person is acting forcefully and not willingly.
On the other hand, mindful actions open the gates to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Mindful actions allow people to understand the consequences of their actions. Jesus
says, You have heard that it was said, you shall not commit adultery. But I say to you

He redefines the interpretation of the commandment. Jesus tells his people to go
to the root of the problem and purify their souls. In the story, A Tree and Its Fruit,
Jesus says, The good person brings good things out of a good treasure, and the evil
person brings evil things out of an evil treasure. I tell you, on the day of judgment
you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter; for by your
words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned (Matthew
12.35 12.37). For Jesus, a person s treasure is synonymous to a person s intentions.
Throughout the Gospel, Jesus reiterates the importance of cleaning one s soul, which
eventually purifies their intentions. Jesus claims that an individual s intention is at
the root of all problems; he makes it the duty of the people to clean their intention
because a person cannot hide anything from God. He acknowledges that on the Day
of Judgment everything that a person has done will come forth. Any careless actions
could prevent a person from entering the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore, a person
with evil treasures would not be able to justify all his

today s high schools, it has become increasing more difficult to meet the diverse
needs of students with social emotional disabilities. These students face a myriad of
challenges including school avoidance and school phobia. Schools must be creative
and develop programs to support each student s emotional health while providing a
rigorous program to meet the student s academic needs. One model to address the
needs of students who are school avoidant or have school phobia is an off campus
location which is staffed by special needs teachers with an expertise in mental health
and counseling. By staffing such programs with teachers designed to meet the
students emotional health, academic rigor may be sacrificed. Programs that lack
content certified teachers to address all students academic needs are turning to on
line learning platforms. Virtual high schools and online learning courses create a
solution to educating high school students who may not be able to be educated in a
traditional classroom setting (Reid, Aqui, Putney, 2009). Schools are creating
blended learning environments where educators trained in mental health can support
students mental health while accessing a content rich environment with online

54. Analysis Of Ken Bain s What The Best College Students
While reading Ken Bain s book What the Best College Students Do of the five
different types of students he describes, I feel like I fall under the label of one
having mediocre grades but achieving success. I make good grades, however I do
not necessarily believe my grades always reflect my hard work, determination and
effort put in, similar to his theory on false hope in standardized testing. Throughout
my school career, I have consistently made A and B grades. I can remember only
one C grade, which was a quarter grade, and very disappointing, but a lesson
learned. At the same time though, and as Bain helped me realize through his text,
grades are not everything and making a C is not something that is going to kill me;
there is simply more to school than a letter grade. In fact he points out through most
of the 1800s schools only used two grades, pass or fail. As seen nowadays, schools
have since adopted the letter grade system.
As a college freshman, I have a fear not being prepared for the level of classes,
realizing that everyone is smart and pretty much on the same level. The pressure to
maintain good grades is at times overwhelming but it helps to incorporate good
organization and time management skills. Luckily my first semester schedule was
one that worked and gave me an opportunity to adjust to college life. High school was
so structured and time consuming with the day packed from early morning to late
afternoon, with few downtime windows. For me, having extra
55. The Formation Of Large Igneous Provinces
This is a review of large igneous provinces, primarily the type known as flood
basalts, and their interaction with and formation from mantle plumes. There are
multiple proposed methods for the formation of large igneous provinces, however
their formation via mantle plume has been the theory most widely accepted. The
research behind these formations and their relationship with mantle plumes has been
ongoing since the late 1980s. Though our understanding of this relationship has
increased, there are still many unanswered questions as to the formation process
behind what makes a mantle plume in a large igneous province different than a
mantle plume in a less active hotspot, and behind the eruption that creates a large
igneous province. There is great importance in understanding this phenomena, and
the driving force behind their formation, as large igneous provinces have been
linked to global scale extinction events, changes in climate, and the break up and
formation of continents. Introduction Areas of continuous massive crustal rock,
which is predominately mafic material, of either intrusive or extrusive origin, have
been classified as large igneous provinces or LIPs (Coffin and Eldholm, 1994).
LIPs are unique, because they expel an enormous volume of material onto the Earth
s surface in a geologically short amount of time, and they do not originate through
seafloor spreading, as do other large basaltic flows (Bryan and Ferrari, 2013). The
definition of a LIP was
