Train the Trainer
Foundation
Why are you here?
What are your expectations for this
session?
How will you know that today’s
training was successful?
People think they know what training is.
They’re wrong!
What is the goal of speaking?
The goal of speaking is to make people...
Think
Do
Feel
What is the goal of training?
The goal of training is to give people...
Knowledge
Skills
Affect (Feelings)
The goal of the trainer does not always
match the expectation of the learner
The learning environment must be physically
and psychologically comfortable.
Adults view classroom situations as a risk.
Self-esteem and egos are on the line.
Adults have expectations, and it is critical
to take time up front to clarify everybody’s
expectations.
Adults bring a lot of life experience into the
classroom.
New knowledge has to be integrated with
previous knowledge, and that means active
learner participation.
The key to the instructor role is control.
Of everything that is happening in the training environment.
Integration of new knowledge and skill
requires transition time and focused effort.
Learning and teaching theories function
better as a resource than as practices that
are cast in stone.
