The trailer for Toy Story 3 begins by showing Andy packing up his toys to take them to daycare. It then highlights the popular characters from the previous films like Woody and Buzz. Clips from Finding Nemo, Up, and Wall-E are also included to draw in audiences. The trailer establishes through one-liners from the toys that they will be facing uncertainty and change outside of Andy's house. Both happy and darker tones are used to hint at the drama the toys will experience. The release date is explicitly shown through titles while plot details are left for audiences to infer. Both children and teenagers who grew up with the earlier films make up the intended audience.

Units 2, 3, 22: Task 3: Analysing Trailer conventionsGJTP
In these tasks we look at and analyse the conventions of trailers and use actual trailers as examples. (Trailers: Kong, Rings, Home Alone, Fast and Furious, Transformers 5)
We watched both the theatrical trailers for Kong Skull Island, and Rings. We were then asked to create a report on the 7 key conventions of movie trailers. My report is shown below.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. Trailer Conventions The trailer is non-linear towards the middle, but at the beginning the scenes are taken from the start of the movie. Such as Andy packing the toys in a box then delivering them to a day care centre. The main characters are continually showcased, even though it is an animation, the characters became well loved when the first film was released in 1995; from Woody to Mr Potato Head and Buzz Light-year. The key point is conveyed between character conversations rather than with inter-titles. Previous films created by Disney Pixar are edited into the beginning of the trailer, when the toys are seen being transferred from the house to another location. These previous films include: Finding Nemo, Up and Wall-E. The popularity of those films, such as their critical reception, will encourage the audience to go and watch Toy Story 3. The beginning of the trailer has one-liners from several characters, like Andy’s mum saying “Andy’s going to college soon, can you believe it? What are you going to do with all these old toys?”. This starts to tell the audience that something will happen to move the toys from their normal location. Also, Woody saying “let’s just keep this in perspective” and Rex saying “I cant take all this uncertainty” leads the audience to understand that the toys’ adventure will take place outside of their normal location of Andy’s house.
4. Trailer Conventions The key points of the story are shown to the audience through the use of inter-titles, which are styled on the traditional Toy Story text design. The drama of the film is shown when the shots used in the trailer change from sunny and happy shots to dark and troubling ones. This communicates to the audience that things will change for the main characters.
5. Trailer Conventions The music at the beginning is happy and light, matching the mood but it soon changes when the narrative of the trailer. One scene of climatic action, when Woody falls to the ground, stops the music before starting again. The pace throughout is rather slow until the end when a montage begins, although there is dialogue over the top. The trailer doesn’t, however, build to a climax.
6. Details conveyed to the audience The main details shown to the audience is the release date for the film, which is explicitly shown through titles. Whilst the plot details are to be figured out by the audience and are subsequently only denotation.
7. USP and intended audience The intended audience is young children due to the characters, toys, and the producers who create films skewered to the younger generation. However, when the first and second films in the Toy Story trilogy many of the viewers will have been children who are now teenagers. But because of the impact the film has meant that they will also be a prominent audience majority.
