Touching The Void Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Touching The Void" can be a challenging endeavor, requiring
a delicate balance between summarizing the gripping narrative and delving into the profound
themes explored within the book. This task demands a keen understanding of the intricacies of
Joe Simpson's harrowing journey, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret the author's
experiences through a thoughtful and critical lens.
One of the challenges lies in capturing the essence of Simpson's survival story while avoiding a
mere recounting of events. It necessitates a careful exploration of the psychological and
emotional toll that the void – both literal and metaphorical – takes on the protagonist.
Extracting meaningful insights from Simpson's narrative requires a deep engagement with the
text, navigating through the physical challenges of the Peruvian Andes and the emotional
nuances of his struggle for survival.
Moreover, addressing the broader themes woven into the fabric of the narrative, such as human
resilience, the will to survive, and the indomitable spirit in the face of adversity, demands a
nuanced approach. Connecting these themes to the broader human experience and drawing
insightful parallels can elevate the essay from a mere analysis to a thoughtful exploration of the
human condition.
Additionally, the essay should demonstrate a mastery of language and an ability to articulate
complex ideas coherently. Crafting a compelling argument and conveying the significance of
Simpson's journey requires a writer to skillfully navigate through the intricacies of language,
weaving a narrative that is both engaging and intellectually stimulating.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Touching The Void" is no easy feat. It demands a
combination of literary analysis, critical thinking, and empathetic engagement with the author's
experiences. However, successfully navigating these challenges can result in a thought-provoking
essay that not only captures the essence of Simpson's ordeal but also offers a profound
exploration of the human spirit in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Apostle Paul s Adoption Of The Coming-Of-Age Ceremony
Christianity is the world s largest religion, with an estimated 2.2 billion believers,
nearly a third (31percent) of all 6.9 billion people on Earth (Pew Research Center,
2015). In many Western Christian churches, those deriving from Rome after the East
West Schism, a young person celebrates his/her coming of age with the Sacrament of
Confirmation (Harrill, 2002). In Eastern Orthodoxy the baptizing Priest gives
Confirmation to infants, directly after baptism. This is usually done by the Bishop
laying his hands upon the forehead of the young person, usually between the ages of
12 to 15 years, and marking them with the seal of the Holy Spirit. In some
denominations during this sacrament the child, now considered an adult in the eyes
of God, adopts a confirmation name which is added onto their Christian name.

How Is Sio2 Similar
SiO2 and FePO4 are very similar in terms of their crystal structure. SiO2 consists of
a metalloid bonded to oxygen atoms, whereas FePO4 consists of a transition metal
which forms an ionic bond with a Phosphate ion (cation), which itself consists of a
non metal bonded to oxygen atoms. In addition, the size of Si and FeP relative to
oxygenare very similar. These structural similarities mean that the observations made
during the thermal transition from the alpha phase to the beta phase are also similar
loosely. This transition between phases is seen in the form of a change in the
structure of the compounds once they cross a certain temperature.
However, due to differences in chemical structure, the specifics of the change in
structure are vastly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
alpha FePO4 can be said to change more eagerly as compared to beta FePO4. In
alpha FePO4, the thermal expansion is seen to be largely non linear whilst having a
significant amount of angular variations similar to the other alpha quartz types.
However, thermal expansion does not take place in beta FePO4 as the process does
not take place at the extreme K levels (980K and beyond). The abrupt absence of the
process is said to be caused by dynamic instability, which in turn is related to the idea
of rigid unit mode. This proves that there has been a chemical restructuring between
the range of temperature such that alpha beta FePO4 becomes two chemicals that are
essentially different; their difference manifesting in the amount of tetrahedral tilt they
experience at different points of temperature increment (inter conversion through
tetrahedral tilting).
Hence, we can see that the mechanism is important as the structural changes related
to it
(for polymorphs) affect symmetry. All in all, the behaviour of FePO4 is proven to
not mimic that of the other alpha quartz homeotypes. This conclusion of its properties
itself makes
FePO4 an unsuitable piezoeletrical

compare the gas mileage, features, fuel tank capacity, sticker price, resale value, and
horsepower. As you can see this is how i m going to figure out which car would be
better to buy.
2017 Honda Civic The 2017 Honda Civic Is a good car because it gets 32 (MPG)
miles per gallon city and 42 (MPG) miles per gallon highway. The Honda Civic has
158 to 306 (HP) horse power. Some the features the Honda Civic has is: Navigation
System, Backup camera, Keyless start, Alarm system, and Bluetooth wireless.
Another reason why it s good to buy is because the resale value is ($13,921 $15,014)
and to sell to a private party is $16,720. The reason why not to buy a 2017 Honda
Civic is because the fuel tank capacity is 12.4 gal. And because the sticker price is
$18,740 .As you can see the 2017 Honda Civic is a good car to buy because of its

Metaphors In Edgar Allen Poe s Annabel Lee
Edgar Allen Poe must have been one of the best writers of his time. He wrote
amazing stories, but oftentimes the ending keeps you guessing. His poem, Annabel
Lee, was written about a girl whom he had a great desire for, but you wouldn t
think that some of the objects and people in his story were metaphors or symbols
for a much bigger effect. Essentially, almost everything is a metaphor for something
bigger in Poe s writings. Sometimes people glance over some metaphors because
they don t think into the story far enough. Looking into a story gives the reader a
contrasting perspective on what s being written. Poe used metaphors to make more of
the love him and Annabel Leeshared. When the stanzas are analyzed further, it is
evident that some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Poe 27 33) He loves her so much that he says that literally nothing can break their
souls apart. Neither angels nor demons can break their love. As we know, Annabel
Lee has passed, but he can still feel her presence. In the last stanza Poe writes,
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee. (Poe 34 37)
This quotation means that everytime the moon is up, which really means when he
s going to sleep, he thinks and dreams about Annabel Lee. When the narrator says
he can feel her eyes in the stars, he is actually saying that her eyes are so bright that
they remind him of stars, but no human eyes are as bright as stars. The stars are
symbols for her eyes. Once again, the speaker is over exaggerating their
The Crucible Lessons Analysis
The Crucible by Arthur Miller poses an abundance of lessons throughout the
screenplay. The most important lessons to be learned in this book are that it is
necessary to have a well organized, responsibly powered, and fair minded government
and court. The organization in charge in any situation must maintain a sense of calm,
cool, and collectiveness that a person can respect. Just as a government has to be
systematic, it needs to be responsibly powered as well. The officials in charge should
not have free reign to prosecute and sentence an innocent party for their own personal
agenda. The last lesson and maybe the most difficult to perform is that the court or
the government must maintain an unbiased and impartial standpoint. These are the
three most important lessons in The Crucible. HALE: Proctor, if she is innocent, the
court
PROCTOR If she is innocent! Why do you never wonder if Parris be innocent, or
Abigail? Is the accuser always holy now? Were they born this morning as clean as
God s fingers? I ll tell you what s walking Salem vengeance is walking Salem. We
are what we always were in Salem, but now the little crazy children are jangling the
keys of the kingdom, and common vengeance writes the law! This warrant s
vengeance! I ll not give my wife to vengeance! (Miller, 194)
In this quote, John Proctor calls out the court for being anarchic because Danforth has
not thought to question the source of where the evidence is coming from. One of the
most important lessons
The People Of Dune By Robert O Reilly
The people of Dune are lead by the hope that someone stronger than them will take
on their challenges. The planet has begun its ecological transformation when it
comes into the possession of Duke Leto Atreides. Paul Atreides, the son of the
Duke, will become the leader of the Fremen. The story tells of the Lisan al Gaib,
the voice from the outer world, which will share the dreams of the Fremen and lead
them to fulfillment (O Reilly). There is a legend among the Fremen that a savior
will ensure the success of the transformation. It becomes a rumor that Paul is that
messiah because he intuitively knows how to perform Fremen tasks, such as
properly wearing a stillsuit. Then, Paul s mother makes it known that the Atreides
will support the transformation, adding to the belief that Paul is their messiah. Their
strong, unconscious projection makes him even more special than he is (O Reilly).
Indeed, the Fremen want to believe that there is someone who can help them,
someone who is capable of doing what they are unable to accomplish. It was a story
about [...] an outsider who went native and used religious fervor to fuel his own
ambitions in this case, to transform the ecology of the planet (O Reilly). Then, Paul
joins the Fremen in the desert, which intensifies the Fremen belief in him. Paul is an
important figure for the Fremen, but not only the them. He is also essential to the
sisterhood of the Bene Gesserit. The Bene Gesserit is made up of Reverend Mothers

Roland Barthes The Death Of The Author Analysis
Roland Barthes The Death of the Author is a seminal text in literary theory.
Published in 1977 in London, it had a long lasting influence on literary studies, in
particular with regard to ideas of semiotics and logo centric conceptions of meaning
and authorship. The text makes a fundamental claim about the nature of literary
production, as well as the way in which a text may be related to by its readers.
Indeed, the essay can be seen to focus on the relation and disjunction between the
writer and the reader, and between the reader and the text. This paper will begin by
identifying the specific claims which Barthes makes in relation to the nature of
authorship, and will then go on to reflect on how this claim informs the general way in
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Barthes, therefore, previous literary hermeneutics have been
predicated on the assumption that to read a text is to place oneself in the position
of an audience being spoken to by a single person who wishes to communicate then
thoughts and feelings. Barthes claims, however, that such a reading simply cannot
be supported by the reality of what a literary text actually is. He claims that a
modem reader does not relate to a text as if it were something dictated by a particular
sovereign voice. Rather, a modem reader understands a text as a multi dimensional
space in which a variety of writings, non them original, blend and clash (146). He
notes that a text is a tissue of quotations drawn from innumerable centres of culture
(ibid). A text without an identifiable author figure is a text which can only be
understood as something whose meaning is potentially legion, and one which
contains a number of conflicting histories. Crucial to this argument is the theological
position which is given to the idea of the author. According to
Computer Security and Data Encryption
DRM is a technology that protects digital content via encryption and the access
control mechanisms that allow a user to view the digital content. In general, to
control what we can and can t do with the media and hardware we ve purchased.
1.Historical perspective of DRM The practices of copyright protection and DRM
have been around since decades ago. In fact, when the Altair BASIC was first
introduced in 1975, the Homebrew Computer Club (a computer hobbyists club)
member made unauthorized copies of Altair basic software and distributed them
at the club meeting. At that time, MITS Company licensed the software from
Micro soft (now Microsoft). Although MITS has been selling thousand computers
a month, Micro Soft wasn t getting much royalty fees since basic copies have been
distributed illegally. This led to the famous open letter open letter to hobbyists by
Bill Gates which he expressed his frustrations towards the hobbyists. In the letter,
he said As the majority of hobbyists must be aware, most of you steal your
software. Hardware must be paid for, but software is something to share. Who
cares if the people who worked on it get paid? Is this fair? But the first
implementation of DRM only came about in 1983 by Japanese Engineer Ryoichi
Mori and it was implemented in Software Service System (SSS) which is later
redefined as Superdistribution. The main focus of SSS was to protect the
unauthorized copying by encryption. The SSS would include a

Prior to 2016, the Chicago Cubs had been winless in the World Series since 1908.
They had only reached the World Series once, in 1945, and came within five outs of

Essay What Moral and Ethical Obligations do Humans
Have to...
The exponential rise in earth s human population since the industrial revolution has
put a heightened pressure on food production word wide. The global population
reached approximately 7.2 billion in 2013 (United Nation News Centre, 2013) and
consequentially the requirement for eggs and poultry has also substantially increased
(Pluhar, 2010). As a result of this elevated demand for food, there has been a shift in
the way agricultural practices operate to produce the large quantities of meat and
eggs necessary to feed the population. The intensive farming method of animal
husbandry has become quite a controversial issue and caused apprehension amongst
many different factions of society. These concerns relate to how high density farming

Aristotle views describe a certain pecking order amongst biotic organisms within the
natural world. This idea of a pecking order is determined by the abilities present in an
organism due to its nature. Aristotle argued that despite plants, animals and humans
all being capable of subsistence and flourishing, only humans and animals have the
capacity for cognizance. Aristotle therefore reasoned that plants are at the bottom of
the pecking order and therefore there purpose is to serve the needs of those higher in
the hierarchy. As part of this ideology he theorised that since humans have the
endowment of conscious reasoning whilst animals are solely reliant upon instincts,
human beings are consequentially superior to non human animals. Aristotle claimed
therefore that it seemed justifiable that the purpose of animals is to serve the needs of
humans (Regan and Singer, 1989).
Others share similar thoughts to Aristotle and contend that moral obligations are
determined by the capabilities of an organism. Immanuel Kant developed a highly
influential moral theory which suggested that a being must be autonomous in order
for its interests to count in the moral assessment of actions (Kant, 1956). He also
subscribed to the belief that it was the attributes which human beings possess and
animals don t have that rationalises awarding human beings a distinct moral status
while withholding any moral status at all from animals. These principals underpin the
view that humans
Monkey Drug Trials Experiment
Title: Monkey Drug Trials Experiment
Authors: Deneau, Yanagita amp; Seevers
Year: it was done in 1969
Purpose:
The purpose of the experiment was to look at the effects of self administration on
drugs, drug abuse, and drug dependence in humans, by testing it on monkeys. They
wanted to observe whether a monkey would become addicted to drugs or not, and to
understand better the effects of drugs.
Method:
First a method was developed, to teach the monkeys how to self administer the drugs
through intravenous catheters. Then the psychologist injected the monkeys for the
first time the drugs. Because they were several monkeys each one received a different
drug, some received cocaine, morphine, amphetamines, ... Show more content on

The researchers founded the reason why drug abuse takes place and how can a
psychological treatment will help people give up the drug addiction.
Discussion:
The experiment was very controversial because it was very unethical and the
monkeys suffered a lot of pain, and in some cases died of overdose.
The Helsinki declaration was founded in 1964 and since here they have been
updating principles of good practice in this kinds of experiments. They say, Welfare
of animals used for research must be respected . Since here the ethical views for non
humans subjects started. Later on the APA gave instructions to determine whether an
experiments on animals is acceptable or not. For example animal research should
not harm the animal or distress it on any way. If the researchers don t follow this
code, they wont be allowed to keep on with the experiment.
In the case of this experiment was already done, but that s why still now a days is
very controversial and shocking, and is listed in one of the 10 most unethical
psychological experiments.
Personal opinion:
This experiment in my opinion was useful to psychology. But I don t agree with the
methods that were applied. The researchers taught some behaviours to the monkeys
that unless humans never show them how to do they will never do it by themselves,

Why Is Globalization Important In International Trade
Globalisation could be defined as the growth to a global or worldwide scale.
Globalisation has brought a wave of improvement and development in technology
and knowledge, also bought a change to the world. Many fields of knowledge have
been affected, the new technologies have been built and have been shown to the
public. As in the other fields, finance is impacted. For example, financial markets
have been established in many counties, local companies have become the
international companies, well known banks have been known in many countries and
so on. Financial advances have also changed the way of international trade, making
transaction in international tradeis more convenient and comfortable than in the past.
Buyers and sellers can make a payment although they are not in the same country,
moneyis transferred cross country in a short time. So, in the international trade
context, there are four different ways to transfer money from the buyer to the seller
as advance payment, letters of credit, draft and open account, and in the different
methods have their own risks. So, this essay will evaluate the potential risks which
could occur and will look at what situations is each method commonly used.
Firstly, letter of credit or documentary of credit (L/C) is a famous payment method in
international trade because this method provide a safety to the both of importers and
exporters (Paul and Aserkar 2013: 31). It is one of the payments which base on the
contract documents. In
The Armenian and Cambodian Genocides
Genocide Paper The definition of genocide, according to the United Nations, was
the attempt to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group by killing
members, causing mental or bodily harm, harsh living conditions, prevention of
births, and separating children from their families. There are four patterns of
genocide, which do not always occur in every genocide since they re not all the
same. The four patterns include persecution, which is hostility and ill treatment,
especially toward a specific race, political, or religious belief done by the ruler or
government. Next is displacement or when a group of people is forced to leave
their native country. Continuing, public humiliation is another pattern that freely
shows off a group of people being tortured or persecuted in plain sight. Finally
when selective groups of people face at terrible fate while another group is spared
the same fate as them is selective murder. Those were the four, very cruel and unfair,
patterns of genocide. The First Modern genocide was the Armenian Genocide, but
what was the Armenian genocide? It was horrific acts committed against the
Armenian people of the Ottoman Empire. The Armenian genocide was planned and
administrated against the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire by the
Turkish government. The Armenians were deported, starved, abducted, tortured and
more. This devastating time lasted from 1915 through 1918. An estimated guess of
around one and a half million Armenians
What Are The Similarities Between America And Usa
In a world with numerous countries and adversities, every country has its different
appeal. Sometimes we find ourselves comparing their similarities and differences,

countries are compelling in different ways, they hold more similarities than we even

Consensual Nonmonogamy
In 2009 the estimated population of people in polyamorous relationships was half a
million. An estimated 4 to 5 percent of Americans, already in relationships, look

Bjarne Holmes, a psychologist at Champlain College in Vermont, in comparison to
the levels of communication in single relationships( New Sexual Revolution ).

properties in almost every relationship. Another question that is commonly asked is
whether polyamory and adultery are similar or go hand in hand. This is not true,
polyamory is about a consensual love that is equal amongst all three members (
Polyterms Aphroweb). The last question, that is asked quite often, is if someone
supports or is in a polyamorous relationship, are they considered anti monogamy (
The Downside of Polyamory Deborah Anapol Ph.D). No, this is not true. People
can be whatever they want and not have to immediately be apposed of the opposite.

Smooth Collies
The collie is a dog breed which is native to Scotland. The dogs were used for water
rescue, herders, guiding cows and sheep to market and for guarding the flock in
Scotland and England. The exact origin of its name is not known, but historians
think it comes from the word Colley which is a Scottish black faced sheep. There
are two types of collie: The rough and smooth collie. The only significant difference
between the two is the fact the rough collie has more hair than the smooth collie
which has a shorter hair and doesn t shed as much. The collie is most known for in
its role in Lassie .
The collie is large and lean dog. The top of the skull is flat and the eyebrows are
arched. Their eye color is dark brown except for the blue merles.
Educating Rita Transitions
An individual s experience of transitions into new phases of life and social contexts.
These transitions can be seen as milestones that lead to short term and long term
changes, and can be challenging, confronting, exciting or transformative, and may
result in a positive development, change an individual s perspective and a range of
consequences for the individual and others. Through our study of educating Rita and
master and commander we explore how communication can shape, transform,
challenge attitudes and beliefs we will develop our understanding of how social
context of individual s interaction can affect perception of ourselves and others,
relationships and society. In educating Rita we live through the struggles of Rita a

The Impact Of Media Industry On The World Essay
Media industry companies throughout the world has changed significantly during
the last decade. Just as once film industry has been threatened by and had to adjust
to the introduction of DVDs instead of VHS tapes, nowadays, a similar pattern can
be identified with introduction of digital platforms. Various media companies,
including film and music production, distribution, television, publishing, etc. have
to not only adapt their services to this emerging development, but also find new
ways to keep up with direct and indirect competitors. The former ones include large
over the top services such as Netflix and Spotify, which have been a sort of
pioneers in the field of digital platform distribution and which are acquiring more
and more power by day; the latter ones are self production release platforms, most
evident with Youtube replacing television and blogs replacing printed magazines and
newspapers. Canadian based media companies today are struggling to keep up with
the ongoing movement. This can be clearly seen from current closures, merges that
are the result of digital predominance of big american companies. Throughout the
course of the semester, both individually and in groups, we looked over various
distribution paths and explored the existing patterns both in class and through our
assignments. In this carry forward advice paper, I would like to look at some of the
most prominent and noticeable changes in the industry, especially in Canadian
premises and draw some
Fifth Business
amp;#9;Robertson Davies novel, Fifth Business, revolves around guilt, competition,
and two men who are foils of each other. Although Dunstan Ramsay and Percy Boyd
Staunton are parallels to each other, they contrast in a great number of ways. Their
awkward relationship plays a significant role in the number of elements which make
Fifth Business such an interesting story.
amp;#9;While Dunstan Ramsay had never been too interested in competing with
Percy Boyd Staunton, Percy from a young age saw Dunny as a rival. When Percy s
brand new expensive sled isn t as fast as Dunny s, Percy gets angry and throws a
snowball at Dunny, which in turn begins the setting for the novel. The two continue

Dunstan bluntly states that Percy was materialistic:
To him the reality was of life lay in external things, whereas for me the only reality
was of the spirit of mind. (Page 114)
Dunstan is in a search for inner truth and spirituality, and Percy is searching for outer
beauty and appearances.
amp;#9;Another way in which the two contrast is that while Dunstan leaves a lot of
events in his life up to chance, Percy wants everyone, and everything in control in
his control. When Percy wants Dunstan to develop some nude pictures of Leola,
Dunstan makes the comparison of himself and Percy to the myth of King Candaules
and Gyges. There were two possible endings to the myth one being that Percy would
lose Leola to Dunstan. This is shown when Leola later tries to seduce Dunstan at a
Christmas party.
amp;#9;Although Dunstan and Percy are very much opposites throughout the novel,
there is one area in which they are both the same neither one of them is able to form
warm, lasting human relationships. At the beginning of their marriage, Percy is
unable to be faithful to Leola, but claims that since he quot;still loves her, the
encounters with the other ladies didn t really count. quot; Percy is still unable to be
faithful to Leola later on in their marriage, due to his failing efforts to bring up to
quot;his standards quot;. When Leola later dies, Percy does not even come home for
her funeral. Dunstan is not able to form lasting relationships either. When he
What Is Servant Leadership In Africa
My essay will be looking at servant leadership in the continent of Africa and how
effective it has been. In the past few decades after countries in Africa seized being
under colonial rule, there has been a misconstrued notion that All leaders in Africa
are corrupt and that it struggles heavily with ethical leadership. It cannot be denied
that certain leaders in African countries have made questionable decisions but the
same can be said for many other leaders in different continents. My thesis aims to
uncover that there are leaders in the continent that do adopt the concept of Servant
Leadership. If I was to say servant leader and Africain the same sentence I am sure
the first name that will come to mind is Nelson Mandela. A man globally known for
his fight against apartheid in South Africa and his compassionate personality and
dedication to the African people s struggle.
UBUNTU
In order to touch upon Servant Leadership in the African context I would need to start
with an African philosophy that coincides greatly with servant leadership, Ubuntu.
The word Ubuntu has many definitions but it roughly translates to human kindness to
others . A complex word from the Nguni language, it is about committing selfless acts

Lubbock Christian University Strengths And Weaknesses
Lubbock Christian University Strategic Analysis
Lubbock Christian University has had a vision set out for in since its founding by
members of the Church of Christ in 1957. Those who took part in the founding of
LCU based it on a hope that it would grow to be highly recognized in academics
while it strived to put Christ above all. Today, LCU s mission reads, Lubbock
Christian University is a Christ centered academic community of learners,
transforming the hearts, minds, and hands of students for lives of purpose and
service . LCU does a wonderful job of creating an atmosphere that is filled with an
engaged community that aspires to build others up with the love of Christ, from both

One strategy that could help in increasing enrollment would be price focused. If LCU
continued to aim to be the lowest cost Christian university, many students will make
it their first choice as they consider all of the many positive aspects of this wonderful
university. Price could also play a part in students transferring as it would be easier to
afford long term. A developmental strategy could be used to put an engineering
department into action. This one department could make a tremendous difference in
both enrollment and transfer rates, making it a strong and viable strategy because it
would make all three objectives more attainable. A differentiation strategy that LCU
could implement is to incorporate measures with students that are attending LCU on
athletic scholarships with a limited knowledge about Jesus. Creating special groups
and events for these students alongside students with an established faith will foster
the love of Christ through this community. This could help improve the number of
students giving up on the culture of LCU and transferring, but instead keep them here
to contribute to the success of the campus.
I conclude that the developmental strategy would make the most difference in the
university as it helps complete all three objectives. While the differentiation and price
focus are both very good strategies
Reasons Why Americans Won The Revolutionary War
Don t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.
Captain John Parker, 1775. What is the Revolutionary War? Well the Revolutionary
War was a war that s started in April 19,1775 and lasted till September of 1783 (8
years, 4 months, and 15 days. The Revolutionary War began with Britain losing the
French and Indian war which ended in 1763. This left the British with a huge debt
they had to pay, so they ended up charging the American Colonists. In the end, the
American colonists couldn t handle it anymore thus started the Revolutionary War.
As you know the American Colonists won the Revolutionary War by sharpshooters,

Sharpshooters are people who are very skilled in shooting. Sharpshooters helped by
killing the generals and captains. But what did that do and did shooting them down
help? When the sharpshooters shot and killed the British captains, this left the
British soldiers disabled and confused so, of course, this was the perfect opportunity
to take down most of the British Army. Who led the sharpshooters? A man named
General Daniel Morgan was the person who helped the new territory gain
independence. One man named Timothy Murphy also contributed a lot to the
Revolutionary War by killing Sir Francis Clerke and General Simon Fraser. In the
Revolutionary War, General Morgan s job was to stall the British when they were at
the Hudson R. And Lake Champlain. Due to his and the sharpshooter s efforts this
was the turning point in the Revolutionary War. As they got farther and farther into
the war you start to notice that they had very clever strategies and an amazing

Compare And Contrast The Wives Of King Henry Viii
King Henry VIII and his six wives
King Henry VIII was born June 28th, 1491 in the Palace of Placentia in London.
He only became king on April 21st,1509 at the age of 18.Through his lifetime he
had six different wives which all either died from giving birth, being beheaded or just
old age. King Henry being old and all and fat would choose girls as young as 15 to be
his queen. Then again there was this law that if you didn t do the deed then you were
not officially married by law.
King Henry VIII first wife, Catherine of Aragon, the former princess of Wales and
his dead older brother Arthur s widow. She got married to King Henry VIII in June
1509 immediately after Henry became king until 1533. Shortly after she became
queen she had a daughter. She later died from cancer in 1536, although many
believed that the king himself poisoned her. This may be because King Henry was
not rather pleased with the fact that he had a daughter because he wanted a son.
Shortly before this King Henry and Catherine had got a divorce so that he could
marry Anne Boleyn. Although, the pope declined and said that he could not divorce
her but did it anyway. He thought that because he was the king he could do anything
and that was final.

Pros And Cons Of Rationing Healthcare
At first glance, the idea of rationing healthcare sounds absurd and ridiculous. Just
think about it. Selective medicine? Deciding who deserves medical care or not? But
when you think about it in terms of families that spend their life savings and then go

may be some sense behind it. It is a well known fact that Healthcare in United Statesis

Neonatal Sepsis
Group B streptococcus, or GBS, is most commonly known as neonatal sepsis. The
causative organism for this infection is an encapsulated Streptococcus agalactiae.
Streptococcus agalactie is a gram positive spherical bacterium that can be found
within the reproductive, gastrointestinal tract and rectum. Although it is not a
sexually transmitted infection, this type of bacterium cause harm to the fetus during
pregnancy. It comes and goes throughout a persons lifetime and does not show
symptoms in women who are colonized. Although group b streptococcus exists in the
rectum of 25% of pregnant women, only about 2% of them will develop an ... Show

Although the late onset form is usually linked to a mother with a GBS infection, there
are some cases in which the cause is unknown. Unlike the other forms of GBS, the
late onset form cannot be treated with antibiotics and may cause more life threatening
side effects if not detected.
Since people with a GBS infection are typically asymptomatic, this type of bacteria
doesn t typically harm them. However, during pregnancy, mothers with group b strep
may develop other infections such as a urinary tract infection, an infection of the
amniotic fluid or an infection of the lining of the uterus. If the infant swallows the
infected amniotic fluid during labor, they are at risk for developing a more life
threatening disease. Common complications for newborns include meningitis,
pneumonia and sepsis. Meningitis is an infection of the brain and spinal cord.
Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs causing respiratory distress. Sepsis is an
infection of the blood that spreads throughout the body. The Center for disease
control classifies Group B Streptococcus as the, leading cause of meningitis, and
sepsis, in a newborn s first week of life (Center for disease control, 2016). An infant
who tests positive for any of these infections will be closely monitored in the
intensive care unit for neonates. Since these complications are life threatening, early
detection can be the best defense in saving an infant s life.

Cyclin D1 Case Study
4.5 FUTURE DIRECTIONS: CYCLIN D1 AS A THERAPEUTIC TARGET
If the hypothesis that CCND1 is a potent oncogene in glioblastoma becomes
validated, the next step would be to exploit this oncogene as a therapeutic target.
Despite outstanding developments in cancer research and current advances in
multimodality therapies, no significant progression has been made in the treatment of
glioblastoma over the past decade and the disease remains fatal.
The role of CCND1 in cancer has been widely validated, but it remains a challenge to
target it directly because it is an intracellular protein and lacks intrinsic enzymatic
activity (Deshpande et al., 2005).
The current therapeutic strategies aim to knockdown Cyclin D1 through the

The first generation of CDK inhibitors did not show any evidence of efficacy in
clinical trials, but researchers suggest that improved pharmacokinetic and dosing
might lead to better results. In addition to that, is crucial to notice that these trials
were conducted on unselected patient populations (Musgrove et al., 2011). More
selective CDK4/6 inhibitors, such as Palbociclib for advanced stage oestrogen
receptor (ER)+ breast cancer, are now undergoing the final stages of clinical trials
and improvements in progression free survival have been consistently reported
(Musgrove et al., 2011; O Leary et al., 2016).
Another frontier could be combining drugs that simultaneously target multiple end
points of cyclin D1 action, such as angiogenesis (via VEGFR inhibitors) and
proliferation (via CDK inhibitors), so that these drugs enhance the therapeutic effects
of each other respectively (Musgrove et al., 2011; Dragnev et al., 2005).
The prerequisite for the success of these novel approaches is a better selection of
patient subgroups, for whom a targeted and personalized therapy can be designed
according to their genomic profile. Indeed, in glioblastomas, response to CDK4
/CDK6 inhibition is normally observed in
Analysis Of The Novel Nervous Conditions
In the novel Nervous Conditions, Tsitsi Dangarembga explores the concepts of
power and oppression. Speaking up about oppression can liberate a person, so the
people in charge do not want the oppressed to speak up. In Nervous Conditions,
males have much more dominance in life than females. Maiguru, Nyasha, and
Lucia all attempt to stand up for themselves against oppression, with little success.
Dangarembga develops the characters Maiguru, Nyasha, and Lucia in order to
convey how speaking out against oppression is necessary but not sufficient to gain
power. Nyasha vocally resists when she feels oppressed because she refuses to
accept being controlled. However, as a child, she must defer to her parents
whether she likes it or not. Early in the novel, Maiguru questions if Nyasha should
read Lady Chatterly s Lover, a book that contains many Western themes and ideals,
because that s not very good...[she doesn t] want [her] to read books like that .
Nyasha retorts, What s all the fuss about anyway? It s only a book and I m only
reading it (75). The controversy of Lady Chatterly s Lover causes Maiguru to label
it as not very good . Italics place extra emphasis on the words book and reading ,
because these two words are associated with gaining knowledge, and therefore
gaining power. Maiguru does not want Nyasha to gain power in the form of ideas that
might cause her to rebel against her parents. Nyasha s confrontational attitude about
the book reaffirms Maiguru s belief that it

The Importance Of Christian Beliefs
Everyone is entitled to having their own beliefs. In healthcare, we can have our own
beliefs but, we must respect others beliefs and respond accordingly. There are many
religions but, I chose to focus on Christianity. A Christian is someone who believes in
the teachings of Jesus Christ. In the Christian faith, there are many denominations,
groups with different views, on what the teachings of Jesus Christ mean. I chose to
focus on the two specific groups who have strong opinions on how they are treated. I
am a strong believer in patient education and the patients right to refuse treatment.
Christian Science In the denomination of Christian science, they strongly believe in
the power of prayer. This is a common belief for Christians, but they take it a step
further. For these believers, the best way, sometimes the only way, to be healed is
by prayer. You can use aides like crutches or canes because they aren t changing
you. If you are in this culture and you feel that you must go to a doctor, you would
have to go to the Christian science doctor. Most of the time, they will only do this
for urgent situations or children that aren t healing fast enough. I am a firm believer
in the power of prayer but, I also believe that medicine is sometimes necessary. As a
healthcare provider, I don t imagine that I will ever treat anyone who believes this
way because I wouldn t be able to practice with their doctor. I am sure if they did
decide to get medical treatment at a

Born in 1254, possibly and probably in Venice, Marco Polo was still only 17 when,
in 1271, he is believed to have set out on his epic Asian journey with father Niccolo,
and uncle, Matteo, returning when Marco was 41, to find Venice at war with Genoa.
Captured and imprisoned, Marco spent his time dictating to a cell mate, Rustichello
da Pisa, an account of his adventures The Travels of Marco Polo documenting his Far
Eastern travels for Mongol ruler Kublai Khan, which became a European best seller.
Europeans got their first Asian insights from the book, though doubts about the
chronicle, and the truth of the fantastical peoples and places Marco Polo described,
have always been voiced. Most believe the Venetian adventurer picked up second

The Great Barrier Reef (GBR)
The Great Barrier Reef (GBR) is the largest and diverse coral ecosystem, and is home
to a variety of organisms (Commonwealth of Australia 2016a). However due to
environmental and anthropogenic events including climate change, pollution, poor
fishing practices, mining and industrialisation (World Wildlife Fund 2016) the GBR is
under threat of coral bleaching, eventually causing significant destruction to the
ecosystem (Australian Marine Conservation Society 2016). There are numerous
sustainabilityprojects to improve the health of the reef including Reef Alliance

The project shows that through effective democratic communication and funding,
successful sustainability and management schemes can take place. The project has
demonstrated a high level of success through the different levels of financial
authority and power, as money can be distributed out to industries and issues of more
concern and allows for productive use of funding awarded to the project. The project
is also successful in allowing all voices apart of the Reef Alliance project to be heard,
through the Queensland Farmers Federation. The project, Reef Alliance aims to
regenerate and rebuild a healthy environment for the GBR, while maintaining
successful business and management practices for farming industries. This suggests
that the project is unbiased as it supports ideas of sustainability without destroying
Australian industries. As the major goals of the sustainability project have been
addressed at early stages, this can allow for farming practices to be refined by June
2019 and ensuring ongoing environmental practices to improve the health of the

Research Paper On Going Postal
Going Postal Everyone knows that one guy at work, who appears to always be
angry, and his co workers are thinking the same thought, one day that guy will end
up going postal. Going Postal, is a common way of referring to a person who is
disgruntled and about to go off on the supervisor or other co workers because he is
insane and has lost his mind. The term, going postal, originated in the early 1990s,
after several mass killings in the workplace by disgruntled postal workers. There is
no doubt, anyone that walks into a place of employment and begins shooting people,
they have worked with on a daily basis, is undeniably insane. It didn t take long for
people to notice the common factor in these shootings were disgruntled postal
workers,
Public Company Accounting Oversight Board; Will It

Public Company Accounting Oversight Board; Will it Protect Investors? The
Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) was created by Sarbanes
Oxley Act of 2002. This board was created to oversee the audit of public
companies, subject to the securities laws, in order to protect the interests of
investors (15 USC 7201, 2002). It was created in wake of the recent financial
scandals of Enron, WorldCom, and Global Crossing to name a few. This Act
established by Congress is to create an oversight board, so that such scandals will
never occur again. Will this oversight board work and will its work restore public
confidence and encourage individuals to invest in the stock market again? The
PCAOB is not a tax payer funded agency.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So who is responsible for leading the PCAOB to take the necessary steps to restore
investor confidence? The chairman of the PCAOB, William McDonough, states
that the PCAOB will be stern but sympathetic supervisors (Michaels). It appears
that McDonough is taking a tough love approach, the approach he used as the
president and CEO of the Reserve Bank of New York. He states; Most of the time (at
the Fed) we d be supportive, helpful В– but if you do something wrong, watch out
(Tufts). One example of McDonough being supportive is not requiring public
accounting firms to sell their tax and corporate finance practices (Michaels). To
require firms to become audit only would have created animosity towards the PCAOB
and further push back on any standard that the PCAOB would issue in the future. By
allowing firms to keep their tax business he is reducing future conflicts and getting
buy off from public accounting firms on tough auditing standards that the PCAOB is
and will issue. He is trying to foster a win win attitude. Will this approach work is
hard to determine at this time. The PCAOB board is so new, only time will tell if
his approach is effective or not. The PCAOB is the public accounting oversight
board created by the Congress via the Sarbanes Oxley Act. It appears the PCAOB has
laid the groundwork to effectively monitor and review the public accounting
The Problem Of Hybrid Car
For a few decades, pollution has become an emergent hazard to the Earth. Human,
nowadays, has been putting a great effort into filtering atmosphere, cleaning
wastes from industrial factories, and making things greener. Waste from
transportation is one of the main factors that cause air pollution. It appears that
scientists are now working on a new project in the automotive industry, which is
called hybrid car. The goal of hybrid technology is not only to produce a vehicle
using green fuels , but also offer, at least, same performance compared to
conventional cars. This research proposes the background history of hybrid car,
how hybrid technology work to conserve environment and save gasoline sources; it
also raises the discussions of all perspectives about hybrid car. Since cars were
invented in 18th century, they become the most popular transportation around the
world. With mass industry, autos are currently cheaper than before, and they are
affordable for most people to pay. According to Voelcker (2014), there are 1.2
billion vehicles on world s roads now, and it is predicted to reach 2 billion by
2035. As more vehicles are being produced every day, the supply of oil grows to
fill up the demand. As gasoline is getting scarcer because of pioneering, this may
cause a growth of price in the future. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) stated
that Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) increased 0.3 %, with gasoline accounting for two
thirds of the gain, which rose 4%. Therefore, the

Introduction
ChocoMint is a bar of chocolate under ChocoHeaven, which is a distributor of
organic chocolate. In recent years, the business of ChocoMint bar encountered
some problems. Since the ChocoMint bar is manufactured overseas, the supply
chain could be unreliable. Besides, as ChocoMint is stored at special storage
locations in the UK, the storage capacity for this kind of product in the UK is
limited. Therefore, in order to prevent the storage from exceeding the company s
storage capacity limits, as well as reduce the risk from supply chain (relying less on
the overseas supply chain), sales department of ChocoHeaven has been trying to ...

It is not a suitable model for the data that beyond its specific range of domain.
Usually, the valid range of domain of a linear equation is quite narrow when it is
applied to practical problem. Finally, linear models are typically based on a set of
assumptions such as the requirement of simplification of the data. They are not really
suitable models for those data with complex context.
4.2 A more appropriate model
In the case of ChocoMint bar, the hyperbolic model might be more appropriate.
Figure4.2 hyperbolic relationship between monthly demand for ChocoMint and
relative prices
y = 836.78x 0.854 RВІ = 0.8488 R = 0.9213
4.3 Justification of the hyperbolic model s higher suitability
Firstly, compared with the linear model, the value of correlation R of this hyperbolic
model is closer to 1. Thus, it indicates that the hyperbolic model represents the
relationship between the price and monthly demand much better.
Secondly, in the linear model, it shows that when the price decreases to 0 (which
means the ChocoMint bar is free), there is a limited demand for ChocoMint bar.
However, the demand for free goods are usually infinite in practice, which is exactly
demonstrated by the hyperbolic model. As the hyperbolic graph above indicates,
when the price is approaching zero, the graph does not intercept the y axis. On the
contrast, it is infinitely close to y axis with increasing values of monthly demand,
which

According to forbes.com, Peer to peer accounts up to 90% of capital deployed in
financial industry. Presence of Peer to peer lending is now an alternate financing
platform to investors and companies without going through traditional methods of
approaching banks or financial institutions due to fact that they offer higher returns.
For Singapore, peer to peer lending is still considered as a new and developing
sector. Singapore economy mainly consists of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises
(SME), whereby most new start up SMEs face problems in getting loan from bank or
financial institutions due to lack of goodwill. This means, peer to peer lending in
Singapore bridges the SMEs gap of getting loans for business development. This
research mainly focuses on the future of Peer to peer lending in Singapore that is
useful to have a practical insight of Peer to peer lending and its implications in
Singapore.
Peer to peer lending took a huge lead in financial industry during last few years and
their accelerating presence holds a deep impact on financial sectors. Peer to peer
lending is growing rapidly in terms of its service and also in other financial areas to
surpass normal banking services. With the known popularity of peer to peer lending,
it has definitely bridged the gap in financial industry by allowing investors directly

Pegasus in Modern Culture
In Greek mythology, Pegasus was the son of Poseidon and Medusa, having sprung
from the blood of Medusa as it dropped into the sea after her head was severed by
Perseus. He was captured by Bellerophon at the water of his fountain and was ridden
by him when he killed Chimera. Bellerophon showed disrespect to the Gods as he
attempted to ride Pegasus to Mount Olympus and Zeussent an insect to sting Pegasus
and Bellerophon was thrown back. Pegasus found sanctuary on the sacred mountain,
where he carried Zeus thunderbolts and was ridden by Eos, the goddess of dawn.
Under his feet sprang the sacred springs of the Muses on Mount Helicon.

Carousels, in today s society, may be related to Pegasus. A carousel is an
amusement ride consisting of a rotating platform with seats for passengers. The
seats are traditionally in the form of wooden horses, which are often moved
mechanically up and down to simulate galloping. One particular carousel is named
Flying Horses, located in Martha s Vineyard, in Massachusetts. It was the first
carousel ever built. The name, Flying Horses, relates to Pegasus, because Pegasus
could fly, and also the fact that all the seats are horses. The creators of this carousel
either indirectly or directly based it off of Pegasus, the flying horse.

I Didn t A Lone Wolf
Being alone had it s advantages, no one bothered me, I could read in peace, listen
to my favorite bands, and play my Rpg games to my heart s content. Loneliness,
something that a majority of people experience in a lifetime for many reasons. It
can lead one s own psyche to be conflicted to the world. This was all based on
speculation of course. There s no proof that my judgment is correct, nor can it be
proven false either. It truly just depends on the person and who they associate
themselves with. I was a shy girl, I didn t have many friends because I didn t like
the same things as the rest. Like, music, shows, games etc. I liked rock music, game
shows, and video games, because of that, I was mostly by myself. There were three
people, but I didn t felt that connection of friendship. I didn t mind though, I consider
myself a lone wolf, someone mysterious, but in a super awesome way. Distance, I
didn t understand why I thought that way when I was young. It was a futile effort, to
say the least. Not even my parents knew of my anti social vendetta. Not that I blame
them, it was around middle schoolthat my anti social loneliness reached it s peak.
Time moves forward and so does the mindset of a father and his second eldest
daughter. Andrea has always been distant. I couldn t understand why, it was almost
like she wanted to stay that way, even at sixteen years old, she prefers to stay in her
room than to go to a familyparty. Esperanza, would let it slide, but I wanted her
My Child Is A Child Essay
My child is a fourteen year old girl, who is currently in ninth grade. She is about 5
2 and she weighs about 105 pounds. She is healthy and has no known medical
issues at the moment. She has a high level of cognitive development compared to
others her age; however, she has been having trouble with her academic
achievements; her report card showed a drop in grades. She is also not confident in
her physical abilities and strengths and it is not involved in any sports.
She has attempted several times to be a part of a clique, but was rejected and bullied
because she was unable to fit in. Nonetheless, she is not a social individual and
during her free time prefers to be by herself reading a book. She also has a lower
socially developed level compare to the other teenagers. She is often picked on as
well because of her clothing she wears and how smart she is. These horrible acts of
bullying have made her feel worthless and at times made her have periodic emotional
changes.
Being a victim of bullying can make an individual lose all their confidence in
themselves. Her trying to be part of a clique and being excluded for her
appearance, behavior, knowledge has impacted her self worth. Henceforth, when she
interacts with her peers, she comes across as socially awkward due to the lack of
confidence and low self esteem. Even her teacher at times criticizes her because she
is really smart but prefers not to answer correctly when asked questions during the
class lectures. Therefore,
How Did The British Conquest Of South Africa
During the British Conquest of South Africa the English used their superiority to
defeat overwhelming armies and kingdoms. Six months throughout 1879 the British
army had to fight through entire kingdoms in a new and hostile environment. As a
result, the british army had decimated and destroyed societies throughout South Africa
exploiting their methods and resources. The successful conquest of South Africawas
caused by the British exploiting their advanced technology, the british also had
defensive and offensive military tactics which were extremely effective, the British
also contained great transportation tools that weren t native to South Africa such as
war horses and wagons. Due to the advancement in technology and development the

One example of these tactics in use was placed in the battle of Rorke s Drift.
Within this battle a total of 139 British Soldiers managed to hold off 4,500 zulu
warriors. The soldiers created a perimeter of sandbags and boxes connecting them
to nearby buildings throughout the camp. These buildings were important as
some buildings contained wounded men and were also used to take out groups of
zulus at once in these compact spaces. Over time the Zulu s overran this stage of
defence as the first building was put on fire and the zulu s overran a sandbag wall.
As the british were well prepared for this they had a wall made out of barrels in the
middle of the complex where they set up taking their positions once more fighting
for their lives. Again the zulu s had overran the british pushing them to form a small
circle in the complex created a last stand until the Zulu s finally retreated (British
Battles). Due to this strategy the british managed to fight in Rorke s drift for a total
of 12 hours (Britannica) As this strategy was used with two different defence lines
the British managed to hold of waves of Zulu s twice as if they formed a compact
square the result of this battle might have been different. Another example of british
tactics that helped them survive battle of Khambula. The British created two main
fortifications out of sandbags and wagons as the Zulu
Han Dynasty Research Paper
The Han Dynasty is the largest dynasty since the Zhou Dynasty, although this is not
the dynasty for wars like the Zhou was. The year is one hundred and the Dynasty
we are living in has learned much from the dynasties before it and used them to
shape our civilization today. In the Han Dynasty we use our language, beliefs, and
government all together for a successful system to live in. These three things are
crucial to our individual lives and why Chinawill retain power for many more
dynasties. Another key to our success is the administrated structure we use. The
dynasty before us (Qin Dynasty) divided our nation into many parts that were ruled
by royal officials. We use this system too, however, we adopted the ideology from
Confucius that emphasized... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

notice and give us peace in life. The Xia kings were conquered by the Shang
because they had lost their Mandate to Heaven. The Shang also lost their mandate
because of ways of life that were not morally justified. This is another reason we
live by the words of Confucius. Confucius taught to live in a way that was morally
right, and we do, which is why we are in a happy and strong dynasty. Some things

Touching The Void Essay. Touching the Void INTRO lesson - GCSE English Teaching Resources

  • 1. Touching The Void Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "Touching The Void" can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a delicate balance between summarizing the gripping narrative and delving into the profound themes explored within the book. This task demands a keen understanding of the intricacies of Joe Simpson's harrowing journey, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret the author's experiences through a thoughtful and critical lens. One of the challenges lies in capturing the essence of Simpson's survival story while avoiding a mere recounting of events. It necessitates a careful exploration of the psychological and emotional toll that the void – both literal and metaphorical – takes on the protagonist. Extracting meaningful insights from Simpson's narrative requires a deep engagement with the text, navigating through the physical challenges of the Peruvian Andes and the emotional nuances of his struggle for survival. Moreover, addressing the broader themes woven into the fabric of the narrative, such as human resilience, the will to survive, and the indomitable spirit in the face of adversity, demands a nuanced approach. Connecting these themes to the broader human experience and drawing insightful parallels can elevate the essay from a mere analysis to a thoughtful exploration of the human condition. Additionally, the essay should demonstrate a mastery of language and an ability to articulate complex ideas coherently. Crafting a compelling argument and conveying the significance of Simpson's journey requires a writer to skillfully navigate through the intricacies of language, weaving a narrative that is both engaging and intellectually stimulating. In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Touching The Void" is no easy feat. It demands a combination of literary analysis, critical thinking, and empathetic engagement with the author's experiences. However, successfully navigating these challenges can result in a thought-provoking essay that not only captures the essence of Simpson's ordeal but also offers a profound exploration of the human spirit in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Apostle Paul s Adoption Of The Coming-Of-Age Ceremony Christianity is the world s largest religion, with an estimated 2.2 billion believers, nearly a third (31percent) of all 6.9 billion people on Earth (Pew Research Center, 2015). In many Western Christian churches, those deriving from Rome after the East West Schism, a young person celebrates his/her coming of age with the Sacrament of Confirmation (Harrill, 2002). In Eastern Orthodoxy the baptizing Priest gives Confirmation to infants, directly after baptism. This is usually done by the Bishop laying his hands upon the forehead of the young person, usually between the ages of 12 to 15 years, and marking them with the seal of the Holy Spirit. In some denominations during this sacrament the child, now considered an adult in the eyes of God, adopts a confirmation name which is added onto their Christian name.

  • 6. How Is Sio2 Similar SiO2 and FePO4 are very similar in terms of their crystal structure. SiO2 consists of a metalloid bonded to oxygen atoms, whereas FePO4 consists of a transition metal which forms an ionic bond with a Phosphate ion (cation), which itself consists of a non metal bonded to oxygen atoms. In addition, the size of Si and FeP relative to oxygenare very similar. These structural similarities mean that the observations made during the thermal transition from the alpha phase to the beta phase are also similar loosely. This transition between phases is seen in the form of a change in the structure of the compounds once they cross a certain temperature. However, due to differences in chemical structure, the specifics of the change in structure are vastly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... alpha FePO4 can be said to change more eagerly as compared to beta FePO4. In alpha FePO4, the thermal expansion is seen to be largely non linear whilst having a significant amount of angular variations similar to the other alpha quartz types. However, thermal expansion does not take place in beta FePO4 as the process does not take place at the extreme K levels (980K and beyond). The abrupt absence of the process is said to be caused by dynamic instability, which in turn is related to the idea of rigid unit mode. This proves that there has been a chemical restructuring between the range of temperature such that alpha beta FePO4 becomes two chemicals that are essentially different; their difference manifesting in the amount of tetrahedral tilt they experience at different points of temperature increment (inter conversion through tetrahedral tilting). Hence, we can see that the mechanism is important as the structural changes related to it (for polymorphs) affect symmetry. All in all, the behaviour of FePO4 is proven to not mimic that of the other alpha quartz homeotypes. This conclusion of its properties itself makes FePO4 an unsuitable piezoeletrical

  • 8. Metaphors In Edgar Allen Poe s Annabel Lee Edgar Allen Poe must have been one of the best writers of his time. He wrote amazing stories, but oftentimes the ending keeps you guessing. His poem, Annabel Lee, was written about a girl whom he had a great desire for, but you wouldn t think that some of the objects and people in his story were metaphors or symbols for a much bigger effect. Essentially, almost everything is a metaphor for something bigger in Poe s writings. Sometimes people glance over some metaphors because they don t think into the story far enough. Looking into a story gives the reader a contrasting perspective on what s being written. Poe used metaphors to make more of the love him and Annabel Leeshared. When the stanzas are analyzed further, it is evident that some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Poe 27 33) He loves her so much that he says that literally nothing can break their souls apart. Neither angels nor demons can break their love. As we know, Annabel Lee has passed, but he can still feel her presence. In the last stanza Poe writes, For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee. (Poe 34 37) This quotation means that everytime the moon is up, which really means when he s going to sleep, he thinks and dreams about Annabel Lee. When the narrator says he can feel her eyes in the stars, he is actually saying that her eyes are so bright that they remind him of stars, but no human eyes are as bright as stars. The stars are symbols for her eyes. Once again, the speaker is over exaggerating their

The most important lessons to be learned in this book are that it is necessary to have a well organized, responsibly powered, and fair minded government and court. The organization in charge in any situation must maintain a sense of calm, cool, and collectiveness that a person can respect. Just as a government has to be systematic, it needs to be responsibly powered as well. The officials in charge should not have free reign to prosecute and sentence an innocent party for their own personal agenda. The last lesson and maybe the most difficult to perform is that the court or the government must maintain an unbiased and impartial standpoint. These are the three most important lessons in The Crucible. HALE: Proctor, if she is innocent, the court PROCTOR If she is innocent! Why do you never wonder if Parris be innocent, or Abigail? Is the accuser always holy now? Were they born this morning as clean as God s fingers? I ll tell you what s walking Salem vengeance is walking Salem. We are what we always were in Salem, but now the little crazy children are jangling the keys of the kingdom, and common vengeance writes the law! This warrant s vengeance! I ll not give my wife to vengeance! (Miller, 194) In this quote, John Proctor calls out the court for being anarchic because Danforth has not thought to question the source of where the evidence is coming from. One of the most important lessons
  • 10. The People Of Dune By Robert O Reilly The people of Dune are lead by the hope that someone stronger than them will take on their challenges. The planet has begun its ecological transformation when it comes into the possession of Duke Leto Atreides. Paul Atreides, the son of the Duke, will become the leader of the Fremen. The story tells of the Lisan al Gaib, the voice from the outer world, which will share the dreams of the Fremen and lead them to fulfillment (O Reilly). There is a legend among the Fremen that a savior will ensure the success of the transformation. It becomes a rumor that Paul is that messiah because he intuitively knows how to perform Fremen tasks, such as properly wearing a stillsuit. Then, Paul s mother makes it known that the Atreides will support the transformation, adding to the belief that Paul is their messiah. Their strong, unconscious projection makes him even more special than he is (O Reilly). Indeed, the Fremen want to believe that there is someone who can help them, someone who is capable of doing what they are unable to accomplish. It was a story about [...] an outsider who went native and used religious fervor to fuel his own ambitions in this case, to transform the ecology of the planet (O Reilly). Then, Paul joins the Fremen in the desert, which intensifies the Fremen belief in him. Paul is an important figure for the Fremen, but not only the them. He is also essential to the sisterhood of the Bene Gesserit. The Bene Gesserit is made up of Reverend Mothers who have
  • 11. Roland Barthes The Death Of The Author Analysis Roland Barthes The Death of the Author is a seminal text in literary theory. Published in 1977 in London, it had a long lasting influence on literary studies, in particular with regard to ideas of semiotics and logo centric conceptions of meaning and authorship. The text makes a fundamental claim about the nature of literary production, as well as the way in which a text may be related to by its readers. Indeed, the essay can be seen to focus on the relation and disjunction between the writer and the reader, and between the reader and the text. This paper will begin by identifying the specific claims which Barthes makes in relation to the nature of authorship, and will then go on to reflect on how this claim informs the general way in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Barthes, therefore, previous literary hermeneutics have been predicated on the assumption that to read a text is to place oneself in the position of an audience being spoken to by a single person who wishes to communicate then thoughts and feelings. Barthes claims, however, that such a reading simply cannot be supported by the reality of what a literary text actually is. He claims that a modem reader does not relate to a text as if it were something dictated by a particular sovereign voice. Rather, a modem reader understands a text as a multi dimensional space in which a variety of writings, non them original, blend and clash (146). He notes that a text is a tissue of quotations drawn from innumerable centres of culture (ibid). A text without an identifiable author figure is a text which can only be understood as something whose meaning is potentially legion, and one which contains a number of conflicting histories. Crucial to this argument is the theological position which is given to the idea of the author. According to

In general, to control what we can and can t do with the media and hardware we ve purchased. 1.Historical perspective of DRM The practices of copyright protection and DRM have been around since decades ago. In fact, when the Altair BASIC was first introduced in 1975, the Homebrew Computer Club (a computer hobbyists club) member made unauthorized copies of Altair basic software and distributed them at the club meeting. At that time, MITS Company licensed the software from Micro soft (now Microsoft). Although MITS has been selling thousand computers a month, Micro Soft wasn t getting much royalty fees since basic copies have been distributed illegally. This led to the famous open letter open letter to hobbyists by Bill Gates which he expressed his frustrations towards the hobbyists. In the letter, he said As the majority of hobbyists must be aware, most of you steal your software. Hardware must be paid for, but software is something to share. Who cares if the people who worked on it get paid? Is this fair? But the first implementation of DRM only came about in 1983 by Japanese Engineer Ryoichi Mori and it was implemented in Software Service System (SSS) which is later redefined as Superdistribution. The main focus of SSS was to protect the unauthorized copying by encryption. The SSS would include a

This idea of a pecking order is determined by the abilities present in an organism due to its nature. Aristotle argued that despite plants, animals and humans all being capable of subsistence and flourishing, only humans and animals have the capacity for cognizance. Aristotle therefore reasoned that plants are at the bottom of the pecking order and therefore there purpose is to serve the needs of those higher in the hierarchy. As part of this ideology he theorised that since humans have the endowment of conscious reasoning whilst animals are solely reliant upon instincts, human beings are consequentially superior to non human animals. Aristotle claimed therefore that it seemed justifiable that the purpose of animals is to serve the needs of humans (Regan and Singer, 1989). Others share similar thoughts to Aristotle and contend that moral obligations are determined by the capabilities of an organism. Immanuel Kant developed a highly influential moral theory which suggested that a being must be autonomous in order for its interests to count in the moral assessment of actions (Kant, 1956). He also subscribed to the belief that it was the attributes which human beings possess and animals don t have that rationalises awarding human beings a distinct moral status while withholding any moral status at all from animals. The Armenian and Cambodian Genocides Genocide Paper The definition of genocide, according to the United Nations, was the attempt to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group by killing members, causing mental or bodily harm, harsh living conditions, prevention of births, and separating children from their families. There are four patterns of genocide, which do not always occur in every genocide since they re not all the same. The four patterns include persecution, which is hostility and ill treatment, especially toward a specific race, political, or religious belief done by the ruler or government. Next is displacement or when a group of people is forced to leave their native country. Continuing, public humiliation is another pattern that freely shows off a group of people being tortured or persecuted in plain sight. Finally when selective groups of people face at terrible fate while another group is spared the same fate as them is selective murder. Those were the four, very cruel and unfair, patterns of genocide. The First Modern genocide was the Armenian Genocide, but what was the Armenian genocide? It was horrific acts committed against the Armenian people of the Ottoman Empire. Various media companies, including film and music production, distribution, television, publishing, etc. have to not only adapt their services to this emerging development, but also find new ways to keep up with direct and indirect competitors. The former ones include large over the top services such as Netflix and Spotify, which have been a sort of pioneers in the field of digital platform distribution and which are acquiring more and more power by day; the latter ones are self production release platforms, most evident with Youtube replacing television and blogs replacing printed magazines and newspapers. The causative organism for this infection is an encapsulated Streptococcus agalactiae. Streptococcus agalactie is a gram positive spherical bacterium that can be found within the reproductive, gastrointestinal tract and rectum. Although it is not a sexually transmitted infection, this type of bacterium cause harm to the fetus during pregnancy. Although the late onset form is usually linked to a mother with a GBS infection, there are some cases in which the cause is unknown. Unlike the other forms of GBS, the late onset form cannot be treated with antibiotics and may cause more life threatening side effects if not detected. Since people with a GBS infection are typically asymptomatic, this type of bacteria doesn t typically harm them. However, during pregnancy, mothers with group b strep may develop other infections such as a urinary tract infection, an infection of the amniotic fluid or an infection of the lining of the uterus. If the infant swallows the infected amniotic fluid during labor, they are at risk for developing a more life threatening disease. Common complications for newborns include meningitis, pneumonia and sepsis. Meningitis is an infection of the brain and spinal cord. Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs causing respiratory distress. Sepsis is an infection of the blood that spreads throughout the body. The Center for disease control classifies Group B Streptococcus as the, leading cause of meningitis, and sepsis, in a newborn s first week of life (Center for disease control, 2016). An infant who tests positive for any of these infections will be closely monitored in the intensive care unit for neonates. Since these complications are life threatening, early detection can be the best defense in saving an infant s life. Diagnosing this infection

Cyclin D1 Case Study 4.5 FUTURE DIRECTIONS: CYCLIN D1 AS A THERAPEUTIC TARGET If the hypothesis that CCND1 is a potent oncogene in glioblastoma becomes validated, the next step would be to exploit this oncogene as a therapeutic target. Despite outstanding developments in cancer research and current advances in multimodality therapies, no significant progression has been made in the treatment of glioblastoma over the past decade and the disease remains fatal. The role of CCND1 in cancer has been widely validated, but it remains a challenge to target it directly because it is an intracellular protein and lacks intrinsic enzymatic activity (Deshpande et al., 2005). The first generation of CDK inhibitors did not show any evidence of efficacy in clinical trials, but researchers suggest that improved pharmacokinetic and dosing might lead to better results. In addition to that, is crucial to notice that these trials were conducted on unselected patient populations (Musgrove et al., 2011). More selective CDK4/6 inhibitors, such as Palbociclib for advanced stage oestrogen receptor (ER)+ breast cancer, are now undergoing the final stages of clinical trials and improvements in progression free survival have been consistently reported (Musgrove et al., 2011; O Leary et al., 2016). Another frontier could be combining drugs that simultaneously target multiple end points of cyclin D1 action, such as angiogenesis (via VEGFR inhibitors) and proliferation (via CDK inhibitors), so that these drugs enhance the therapeutic effects of each other respectively (Musgrove et al., 2011; Dragnev et al., 2005). The prerequisite for the success of these novel approaches is a better selection of patient subgroups, for whom a targeted and personalized therapy can be designed according to their genomic profile. Indeed, in glioblastomas, response to CDK4 /CDK6 inhibition is normally observed in
  • 36. Analysis Of The Novel Nervous Conditions In the novel Nervous Conditions, Tsitsi Dangarembga explores the concepts of power and oppression. Speaking up about oppression can liberate a person, so the people in charge do not want the oppressed to speak up. In Nervous Conditions, males have much more dominance in life than females. Maiguru, Nyasha, and Lucia all attempt to stand up for themselves against oppression, with little success. Dangarembga develops the characters Maiguru, Nyasha, and Lucia in order to convey how speaking out against oppression is necessary but not sufficient to gain power. Nyasha vocally resists when she feels oppressed because she refuses to accept being controlled. However, as a child, she must defer to her parents whether she likes it or not. Early in the novel, Maiguru questions if Nyasha should read Lady Chatterly s Lover, a book that contains many Western themes and ideals, because that s not very good...[she doesn t] want [her] to read books like that . Nyasha retorts, What s all the fuss about anyway? It s only a book and I m only reading it (75). The controversy of Lady Chatterly s Lover causes Maiguru to label it as not very good . Italics place extra emphasis on the words book and reading , because these two words are associated with gaining knowledge, and therefore gaining power. Maiguru does not want Nyasha to gain power in the form of ideas that might cause her to rebel against her parents. Nyasha s confrontational attitude about the book reaffirms Maiguru s belief that it

He states; Most of the time (at the Fed) we d be supportive, helpful В– but if you do something wrong, watch out (Tufts). One example of McDonough being supportive is not requiring public accounting firms to sell their tax and corporate finance practices (Michaels). Human, nowadays, has been putting a great effort into filtering atmosphere, cleaning wastes from industrial factories, and making things greener. • 51. I Didn t A Lone Wolf Being alone had it s advantages, no one bothered me, I could read in peace, listen to my favorite bands, and play my Rpg games to my heart s content. Loneliness, something that a majority of people experience in a lifetime for many reasons. It can lead one s own psyche to be conflicted to the world. This was all based on speculation of course. There s no proof that my judgment is correct, nor can it be proven false either. It truly just depends on the person and who they associate themselves with. I was a shy girl, I didn t have many friends because I didn t like the same things as the rest. Like, music, shows, games etc. I liked rock music, game shows, and video games, because of that, I was mostly by myself. There were three people, but I didn t felt that connection of friendship. I didn t mind though, I consider myself a lone wolf, someone mysterious, but in a super awesome way. Distance, I didn t understand why I thought that way when I was young. It was a futile effort, to say the least. Not even my parents knew of my anti social vendetta. Not that I blame them, it was around middle schoolthat my anti social loneliness reached it s peak. Time moves forward and so does the mindset of a father and his second eldest daughter. Andrea has always been distant. I couldn t understand why, it was almost like she wanted to stay that way, even at sixteen years old, she prefers to stay in her room than to go to a familyparty. Esperanza, would let it slide, but I wanted her

Six months throughout 1879 the British army had to fight through entire kingdoms in a new and hostile environment. As a result, the british army had decimated and destroyed societies throughout South Africa exploiting their methods and resources. The successful conquest of South Africawas caused by the British exploiting their advanced technology, the british also had defensive and offensive military tactics which were extremely effective, the British also contained great transportation tools that weren t native to South Africa such as war horses and wagons. Within this battle a total of 139 British Soldiers managed to hold off 4,500 zulu warriors. The soldiers created a perimeter of sandbags and boxes connecting them to nearby buildings throughout the camp. These buildings were important as some buildings contained wounded men and were also used to take out groups of zulus at once in these compact spaces. Over time the Zulu s overran this stage of defence as the first building was put on fire and the zulu s overran a sandbag wall. As the british were well prepared for this they had a wall made out of barrels in the middle of the complex where they set up taking their positions once more fighting for their lives. Again the zulu s had overran the british pushing them to form a small circle in the complex created a last stand until the Zulu s finally retreated (British Battles). Due to this strategy the british managed to fight in Rorke s drift for a total of 12 hours (Britannica) As this strategy was used with two different defence lines the British managed to hold of waves of Zulu s twice as if they formed a compact square the result of this battle might have been different. Another example of british tactics that helped them survive battle of Khambula. The British created two main fortifications out of sandbags and wagons as the Zulu
  • 54. Han Dynasty Research Paper The Han Dynasty is the largest dynasty since the Zhou Dynasty, although this is not the dynasty for wars like the Zhou was. The year is one hundred and the Dynasty we are living in has learned much from the dynasties before it and used them to shape our civilization today. In the Han Dynasty we use our language, beliefs, and government all together for a successful system to live in. These three things are crucial to our individual lives and why Chinawill retain power for many more dynasties. Another key to our success is the administrated structure we use. The dynasty before us (Qin Dynasty) divided our nation into many parts that were ruled by royal officials. We use this system too, however, we adopted the ideology from Confucius that emphasized... We believe in our ancestors and we want to follow as they did, which was harmonious with Tao. Tao is the way of life and if with are in sync with Tao and others the gods will notice and give us peace in life. The Xia kings were conquered by the Shang because they had lost their Mandate to Heaven. The Shang also lost their mandate because of ways of life that were not morally justified. This is another reason we live by the words of Confucius. Confucius taught to live in a way that was morally right, and we do, which is why we are in a happy and strong dynasty. Some things that have come from losing the Mandate of Heaven and causing the fall of dynasties are
